Remember when you were a kid and ruined a perfectly new notepad just to draw a cartoon? You know the animated drawing of a ball or stick figure that when you flip through the whole book quickly it appears to be animated. Well AniGif takes that idea, but updates it to the 21st century technology era.

It is basically this: you take a series of pictures of an object, while moving the object slightly between pictures. Then when you are done, this app takes all the pictures and puts them together to create the animation effect, allowing you to set the frame delay from 0.06 seconds to 4.00 seconds. There are websites online that can do this, but not for the iPhone, where Readdle makes the process simple and easy.

You can take the pictures right in the app with the camera, or select them from pick them from a photo album. When you create your animations, you are given the choice of sending it via email or send it to Twitter (Twitpic). This app has some nifty details that give this app an interesting look, for example film strip frame around the previews on the main menu. One thing that irked me is that the frame delay slider is not very responsive to my touch; it takes me about three tries to get it to move. Also, this app crops the pictures to a size of 256×256 pixels, therefore cutting off parts of the picture. It would be better if they kept their size and quality, which is reduced noticeably. A few more sharing options would be nice too (Facebook, MySpace, PhotoBucket, etc).

A straightforward app makes creating an animation uncomplicated, as it should be.
