Divide an equilateral triangle into four, remove the central triangle, do the same to the new triangles.

Here is method #2:

Pick a corner at random, jump half-way towards it, mark the spot, repeat.

And here is method #3:

Bend a straight line into a hump consisting of three straight lines, then repeat with each new line.

Each method can be varied to create new fractals. Method #3, which is also known as the arrowhead fractal, depends on the orientation of the additional humps, as you can see from the animated gif above. There are eight, or 2 x 2 x 2, ways of varying these three orientations, so eight fractals can be produced if the same combination of orientations is kept at each stage, like this (some are mirror images — if an animated gif doesn’t work, please open it in a new window):

The White House recently tweeted a “breaking” news alert about its new Tumblr filled with animated GIFs. On Thursday, the White House shared a GIF of President Obama taking off from the White House. It wasn’t a cat GIF, but the White House got a pat on the back from BuzzFeed anyway.

Warren Buffett joined Twitter on Thursday, announcing that “Warren is in the house.” Sorry, Bubba, as far as we know, Buffett’s secretary is not “in the house.”

Here is an early draft of the building which is the main stage of our site. The neon logo would go in the black space at the top, a helicopter would fly in depositing a man who then appears in the lift and enters the lift. This then appears to go down the building before he exits in a cab. The black spaces will be where neon signs go and the CSS window animations will be incorporate to run on a loop in a staggered set of windows.

I have used Photoshop to create a selection of animated gifs from which the best can be chosen and placed into divs on the building.

General Electric, one of the world’s largest brands, added animated GIFs to their marketing strategy this week by launching a Tumblr site.  Even multinational companies (like GE) are seeing the value of using the animated GIF to get noticed and in doing so are bringing a new and younger audience into the conversation.  You may have seen the ‘Matrix’ villain Agent Smith recently in GE’s television and web ads.

As an industrial technology company, GE has loads of great content to create some fantastic animated GIFs from.  They’re perfect for visually enhancing web pages, email campaigns, and blog posts.  Here are some more neat examples by GE…

So I did a lot of research and I remember when I first started blogging back in.. I don’t know.. late 90′s?  There were popular cute animated gifs called “Kaoani“.

Here’s an examples of a Kaoani:

What a cutie!  I really like Kaoani but they died a long time ago.  Sometimes they are revived but in modern forms of gifts and emoticons.  I don’t bother with them anymore because I use skype a lot and do video calls.  Use my own face as emoticons haha.

Anyway, I decided to play around and make my icon like a kaoani and using Andrei Marius‘s shading techniques and avoid the pen tool from the Flag stand tutorial.

It didn’t take me long (maybe 1.5 hours all together including adjustments) and you know what?  It turned out great!

So great that I now hate my other pig.  Ugly!!

Apologies for only showing you the silhouette of it, but like I said.. I have to keep it a secret until the release of our android app which will be another month or so!  My husband is putting a lot of hours into our upcoming android app and it’s not easy!  I sometimes wish I can help him but I’m not an engineer

If you thought stunning images of nebulous gas clouds in space couldn’t get any prettier, think again. Finnish astrophotographer J-P Mets vainio has combined art and science to make these stunning 3D-esque animated GIFs of nebulae.

He uses a technique known as volumetric rotation to create a sense of 3D: by using known and approximate distances of stars in the image, it’s possible to work out where they fall in relation the cloud itself, and hence create a pseudo-3D image. Mets vainio explains:

“I use a ‘rule of thumb’ method for stars: brighter is closer, but if a real distance is known, I’m using that. Many 3D shapes can be figured out just by looking carefully the structures in nebula, such as dark nebulae must be at front of the emission nebulae in order to show up etc… the general structure of many star forming regions is very same, there is a group of young stars, as an open cluster inside of the nebula. the stellar wind from the stars is then blowing the gas away around the cluster and forming a kind of cavitation – or a hole – around it. the pillar-like formations in the nebula must point to a source of stellar wind, for the same reason.”
