The Animatrix consists of nine animated shorts that revolve around the Wachowski Brothers’ trilogy of The Matrix films. While these stories are done in an anime style, the animation style is different for each story, similar to the recent Batman: Gotham Knight anime. As a result, I find the Animatrix to be all in good fun as long as I watch it as a piece of visual art to be enjoyed. However, as with many works of art, trying to dig too deeply, too intellectually, one digs a hole so deep that Plato could not climb out. I might not like all of the animation from every story, but every story is truly amazing. It gives the back story to the movies and proves that we are to blame for everything.

The shorts start with “Final Flight of the Osiris” which lets us know where the scans that we hear about from “Reloaded” came from. After it’s over we move into what I think should have been in the movie which is the “The Second Renaissance”. It lets us know the whole history of how the war between man and machine began. One thing this does a lot better than the movies ever did was to show you the size and scope of the Matrix itself. In the movie you’re confined to one city and that’s it but in this we pretty much go all around to see what a vast and detailed program that the Matrix is.

In many respects, the Animatrix is better than the films, which seemed to get shallower and shallower as the story went on. One might be inclined to think that, since the average running time for each of these short films is only a mere 9 minutes or so, that character and plot development would naturally suffer. Often enough one would probably be correct, but certainly not in this case. The characters of each short are also by-and-far ingeniously planned. Every action taken and every word spoken lends itself to the understanding of the motivations of the players within each story arc.

Overall, the Animatrix is a great collection of innovative, very well done, and visually-stunning films. However, the films lack cohesion and, at times, relevance to the Matrix world. It would have been nice of the stories were deeper, or tied themselves in more with the movies, but it would be difficult to things like that given that most of the films fall within 10 minutes. Either the creators were trying to push to much info through in a short time span, or the artists took too many liberties with the script. Those nitpicks aside, this is quality all the way around. Any fan of the Matrix should make this essential viewing.

 Afro Samurai, accompanied by Ninja-Ninja, returns to battle arch-enemy Lady Sio, her band of henchmen, and an unexpected foe that will test the limits of Afro’s endurance!

 Despite being an avid anime fan, I haven’t actually seen the original Spike Afro Samurai series. The animation style of Afro Samurai rather reminds me of an insane combination of Aeon Flux, the World Record segment of The Animatrix, and Samurai Champloo! It’s not odd enough that we have a black samurai with the voice of Samuel L. Jackson, oh no, we have to have insane animations, Lucy Liu doing another voice, African-American culture being spliced into feudal-style Japan, and all the sex and violence you can shake a headband at!

 Yes, it’s way cool. However, not for everyone, especially considering what they showed us at the SDAFF was the unedited directors cut of the movie. I thought it was very strange but quite cool to see men and women dressed in very traditional feudal-era Japanese costumes, dancing to the beat-box rhymes of a huge parade float that was boppin Dre-style beats! Sam Jackson does the voice for both Afro Samurai, when he does speak at all which isn’t often, and for Ninja-Ninja, the sidekick character who seems to be a will o’ the wisp companion of Afro. Lady Sio is voiced by Lucy Liu, who does a more or less fine job for a rather sick and twisted bad guy character. I don’t want to give the whole plot away, so let’s just say Lady Sio’s plan for revenge on Afro is one of the more evil I’ve come across. The movie is very much worth a look, although it might be a bit more comfortable to just own the thing so you can watch it at home, surrounded by friends and alcohol, to cheer on the big bad black man in the number one headband!

 And for an exclusive SDAFF scoop, the guys from Afro Samurai who did a Q&A after the movie confirmed that yes, there will be a live-action Afro Samurai movie starring Sam Jackson!

Andy y Larry Wachowski, unos hermanos poco respetados por gran parte de la crítica purista del cine; aunque popularísimos por su trabajo maestro llenaron salas y mas salas de cine al final del siglo pasado. 1999 era el año para películas apocalípticas con Arnold Schwarzenegger y un monton de referencias al año 2000, pero el éxito mayor para la industria hollywoodense llego con “The Matrix” la nueva propuesta del Sci-Fi para comenzar el nuevo milenio. Efectos especiales prometedores y una campaña publicitaria y mercadotecnica de titanico tamaño aseguraron miles de curiosos en los cines para el estreno mundial un 31 de Mayo.

Matrix es todo desde el punto de vista de cada ser dentro de ella, desde fuera es un programa de computadora al cual estan conectadas las baterias con forma y cuerpo humanos que mantienen vivo el mundo de las maquinas. Atrapados dentro de la Matrix los humanos viven inconscientes del mundo real. Fuera de Matrix los pocos humanos luchan por sobrevivir a las maquinas que en este lapso llevan ventaja en una guerra de muchisimos años.

La película dueña de un éxito comercial aplastante demandó un par de secuelas que completaron una de las trilogías mas populares del cine y que con sus espectaculares efectos especiales marcó un antes y después de la tecnología en el séptimo arte. La historia de Neo es omnipresente en la famosa trilogía, el ha de ser “el elegido” que cambie el curso de la guerra entre Hombres y Máquinas así que porque no darle preponderancia al personaje en el guión. Sin embargo llega a ser molesto soportar tantos minutos al inexpresivo Keanu Reeves, así que es un placer tomarse un intermedio y checar entre “The Matrix” y “Matrix Reloaded”(por orden “cronológico”) el producto publicitario llamado “Animatrix”, que puede incluso llegar a ser un trabajo de mayor calidad que la trilogía misma.

Animatrix se compone de 9 cortos de animación con historias paralelas al universo de Matrix elaborados por diferentes dibujantes y técnicas.

“El Segundo Renacimiento”(parte 1 y 2). La historia del cambio de poder en el mundo y la rebelión de las Máquinas contada por una especie de ordenador bibliográfico que ocupa audiovisuales para enterar al usuario de lo que ha sucedido. En estos cortos se muestra el comienzo de la consciencia desarrollada por la “Inteligencia Artificial” y su ascenso al poder atravez de los maltratos y desigualdades que vive respecto a la humanidad. Se aclara el punto mencionado en “The Matrix” sobre la destrucción del cielo terrestre.

“Kid’s Story”. Usando una técnica de animación llamada rotoscópica, en la que se graba video y se sobrepone animación con medios digitales(algo como: “A Scanner Darkly“, Richard Linklater 2006), se cuenta la historia de un chico que es invitado a mitad de clase por Neo via su telefono celular para abandonar la Matrix, asi como para advertirle que agentes ya vienen por el. El personaje del chico aparece en “Matrix Reloaded” en Zion agradeciendole incansablemente a Neo el haberle salvado.

“Program”. Con un estilo mas parecido al manga se cuenta el entrenamiento simulado de un par de tripulantes de una nave rebelde en el mundo real. Tadeus pretende convencer a su amante Cis de regresar a la Matrix y traicionar a sus compañeros y ciudad mediante un trato con un agente; evocando la traición de Cypher en la primera película de la saga.

“World Record”. Matrix supone un mundo de posiblilidades para los “liberados” cuando vuelven a conectarse limitados solo por su poder mental. Asi como ellos pero de un modo un tanto incosciente un atleta que compite al mas alto nivel en los 100 metros planos supera su record una tras otra vez empujado por su disciplina física y mental hasta llegar a los límites de Mátrix, donde tendrán que intervenir los agentes por el peligro potencial que representa para el sistema. Este corto es a mi gusto el mejor.

“Beyond”. Una adolescente llega junto con otros niños a una “casa encantada” en la que se metió su gato, la casa oviamente no está encantada sino que se trata de un error en el codigo de Matrix que provoca fenomenos (como falta de gravedad)que a los niños les encantan, convirtiendo así la casa en su patio de juegos hasta que el error es detectado y agentes llegan a agüar la fiesta.

“A Detective Story”. Otra que me gustó mucho fue esta entrega donde un detective es contactado por un cliente misterioso que le paga muy bien por encotrar a un hacker informatico llamad@ Trinity. El investigador resulta bueno en su encomienda, pero no todo sale como lo planeaba. La animación aquí se limita al blanco y negro, con algunos detalles verdes, color que es representativo de la franquicia. Me recordó mucho a la peli “Pi” de Darren Aronofsky.

“Matriculated”. Presenta a humanos(y un changuito chistoso) liberados que no viven en Zion sino en la superficie terrestre y se dedican a atrapar robots para luego mediante programas de simulación estimularlos a sentir empatía por los seres humanos. Este corto es dirigido por Peter Chung que creó en otro tiempo una serie animada de culto que se popularizó mucho al ser transmitida por el canal MTV, y que es excelente Æon Flux.

“The Final Flight of the Osiris”. Las últimas horas de la tripulación del Osiris que descubre un ejercito de máquinas perforando en dirección a Zion(la última ciudad humana), las máquinas los han visto y ya los persiguen, ante el inminente fin solo les queda mandar un mensaje  desde la Matrix a sus compañeros de la nave Logos(quienes recojen el mensaje en la trama del videojuego “Enter the Matrix”). La animación aqui es completamente por computadora, explotando al máximo las posibilidades del 3-D.

Prescisamente me tome los últimos tres fines de semana para volver a ver la trilogía. Por primera vez cheque los Animatrix pues no había tenido oportunidad de verlos. Y bueno ya que el último post era sobre Dune y en Matrix no paran las referencias a otras obras del genero, vale mencionar que la obra de Frank Herbert tambien tiene recortes presentes en Matrix.

Hace unos pocos días estaba zappeando en la tele y me detuve cuando vi unos dibujos que me llamaron mucho la atención.
Me quedé embobado con la animación. Después de un rato, cuando le agarre el hilo a la trama, me di cuenta que lo que estaba viendo trataba de batman y no solo eso sino que había mas cortos de donde estos habían salido.
Me quede pegado a la tele hasta que acabo la serie de cortos, entonces me lance a investigar que onda con lo que había visto y me encontré con que lo que había visto era una creación de DC y Warner llamada “Batman: The gotham knigth”. Esta entrega de cortos se compone se seis historias dirigidas y producidas por diferentes estudios de animación, los seis cortos están relaconados entre si y se ubican cronológicamente entre las últimas dos películas del hombre murciélago, muy similar a la idea de animatrix.
Si tienen la oportunidad de verla, aunque no sean fanaticos del Caballero obscuro, dense el tiempo por que de verdad que te deja con un muy buen sabor de boca.

Hoooola a todo el mundo, no si recordaran que en uno de los reportes de la Comic Con 09 les informe acerca de la salida del Halo Legends, una serie de cortos animados al mas puro estilo Animatrix o Batman.  Pues si,  la televisora de Spike TV ofrecio un previo de 5 minutos ! Asi que aqui se los dejo …. Veanlo, disfrutenlo y emocionensce con el video. Algo que hay que resaltar de  Halo Legends es, que es un  proyecto que involucra  importantes estudios de animación como es  Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G. , Studio4 C y Toei Animation .  Dejen sus comentarios.

Spike TV mostró un previo de la serie animada que se desarrolla dentro del universo de Halo.

El hacer anime de un producto americano no es nuevo, desde Animatrix hasta Batman Gotham Knight, hemos visto buenos trabajos y propuestas interesantes, en la Comic Con 09 se dió a conocer Halo Legends, proyecto que involucra los talentos de importantes estudios de animación como: Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio4 C y Toei Animation.

A história se passará no cenário incrível do conflito contra os Covenants, também poderá aparecer novos personagens e acontecimentos.

Na minha opinião o anime vai ser muito legal e poderá chamar mais fãs da história que s passa pelo jogo Halo, eu vou ser uma das pessoas que vai ficar anciosa para o lançamento do anime aqui no Brasil. Não há data definida para o lançamento mas poderá ser muito em breve.

Si la respuesta es NO, creo que debes vivir en las cloacas y eres un ermitaño . . . si la respuesta es SI. Te felicito porque seguro recordaste que la Saga de MATRIX tuvo una campaña similar con la famosa “ANIMATRIX”, trabajo realizado por varios estudios y que tenia como finalidad contar la historia previa a las peliculas con la ayuda de grandes estudios de animación japoneses . . . pues parece que Microsoft quiere que recuerdes al Master Chief por siempre ya que este nuevo trabajo llamado Halo Legends, retoma el mismo concepto. Yo lo definiria como Halo The Anime, y como pudieron ver en el video, será lanzado en partes en la XBOX LIVE y en el 2010 se lanzara en una recopilación. No sabemos cuanto costara el contenido o si solo es parte de la campaña publicitaria de HALO 3 ODST. Ya les platicaré.

Este duo britanico muestra en sus discos una mezcla muy variada de estilos con colaboraciones de otros artistas y musicos en vivo. Su tercer disco es algo conceptual y esta basado en la pelicula de culto del mismo nombre de Kenneth Anger, la cual no he visto ni se de que se trate por lo que mejor les dejo el disco que si he escuchado y esta re bueno.

Something that I like to emphasize is that in my being I feel that intuition, sensitivity, and a questioning nature should be enough to get a person to the kinds of experiences I’ve had, but I don’t think they are. I think those qualities let me realize that something was very wrong with my world from a young age, but they didn’t get me out. I started to get out when I wouldn’t stop pushing until I was free, both of the limits that have been placed on me and the ones I’ve created for myself. I’m not there yet.

What I’m trying to say with the hackneyed metaphor of the matrix is that I don’t want anyone to think that the nature of existence is obvious. You’re not a dupe or drone if all you see is 3D reality in the Western context when you wake up in the morning. Firstly, It’s just as real as all the other kinds of experience, in an ironic way it’s just more illusory than most in my opinion. Secondly, by the design of the system we live in you’re not supposed to wake up in the middle of the trip. Even most energy workers are here to have an experience of a particular kind of incarnation, not to fully, consciously awaken to their nature. Even fewer are here to actually do something, as opposed to having the experience of doing something. That’s the way this system was designed/grown/happened to work.

All this would be fine except for one thing. To borrow a metaphor from Madeleine L’Engle that would be simplistic if I didn’t think it was so true, this is a shadowed world. We are all co-creators of our world and are thus responsible, but for the last several thousand years negative forces and intelligences have had undo influence in this world. Most commonly they feed on what I call “our lives gone wrong.” It’s actually very hard to capture energy from just death. We are freed in death as we are bound by birth, as both are part of life. We are whole in the process of life, and as the Dao De Jing put it “the tiger’s claw has nothing to grab on to nor the weapons a place to slice,” but when we enter unlife, or wrong life, we are easy prey. There is no morality or immorality to unlife. It is simply the state in which a being’s nature cannot be manifested, or is distorted into a process of disease without the process of healing or evolution to counter it.

Our world is at a crux. All pasts and futures rest on the fulcrum of the eternal now, but in the probability scape of our future the errors bars have gone off the charts and the standard deviation isn’t so standard anymore. At the edge of my vision I see unspeakable wonders and horrors, our world becoming a dream or a nightmare. Near the centre of vision, and far more likely is the mere distinction between futures of sustainable existence or extinction. Your choices now will have consequences that you can’t imagine, and I’m telling you that the playing field isn’t level. There are people and things out there that want you to fuck up, cave in and turn off inside. Don’t. You matter.

Having said all this I’d like to make clear that there is no righteous cause here. Righteousness only helps in that one moment when you need the energy to put yourself on your path and to move aside what limits you. Beyond that it will take you out of your true life as much as anything else will. Don’t cling to it. So will trying to push other people into taking your path. Alan Watts put it much better than I could, so I’ll leave you with some very wise words from his The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are.

“If, then, I am not saying that you ought to awaken from the ego-illusion and help save the world from disaster, why The Book? Why not sit back and let things take their course? Simply that it is part of “things taking their course” that I write. As a human being it is just my nature to enjoy and share philosophy. I do this in the same way that some birds are eagles and some doves, some flowers lilies and some roses. I realize,too, that the less I preach, the more likely I am to be heard.”

Navegando por la red encontre un sitio muy interesante, su nombre TOKIDOKI el cual es diseñado por el italiano Simone Legno y un par de amigos de nombre Poonher Mohajer e Ivan Arnold, los diseñadores de la marca Hard Candy. A primera vista pareciera que estas visitando una pagina de anime japones, pero se nota que en el desarrollo de cada muñeco que se crea ahí existe una colaboración de Toy2R. Tokidoki vende una inmensa cantidad de accesorios a nivel mundial, la verdad es que el tiempo que anduve navegando en la página vi cosas interesantes.

De igual manera Legno y compañia han creado muñecos de vinil de cada uno de esos personajes que crearon, los cuales se dividen en tres familias que son The Cactus Friends, The Moofia y Adios & Ciao Ciao. En Asia son muy populares pero los personajes más famosos de sus series son: Sandy, Cactus, Kitty, Leche (se me hace muy cagado), Mozzarella, Choco, Grimp Reaper y su vieja.
