One thing I miss is in…

Every year there are few films that you wish got more buzz or was talked more often. So here’s my list of underrated films of 2009:

1) Assassination of a High School President.

Cast: Reece Thompson, Mischa Barton, Bruce Willis.

This is one of those unusual movies out there. The dark comedy, the dark side of life is more focused in this one. Had a little twist ending and it was painful, I mean I got no way to describe it, you’re just gonna have see it by yourself. Shockingly painful ending. Bruce Willis as usual is awesome.

2) 17 Again.

Cast: Zac Efron, Matthew Perry, Thomas Lennon, Leslie Mann, Michelle Tratchenberg.

A hilarious movie which got very little attention. People seem to think that because Efron started as a disney star means he is bad. Just watch this movie, he is not bad. And the supporting cast could have never been better.

3) What Goes Up.

Cast: Steve Coogan, Hilary Duff, Olivia Thirby, Josh Peck.

One of those weird indie films. I was counting on days and at last Hilary Duff came out of her shell and became serious. She was literally good and actually dropped a couple of F-bomb in this one. Like no. #1.. AOAHSP, the darkness is focused here. But was hilarious at times.

4) A Perfect Getaway.

Cast: Timothy Olyphant, Kiele Sanchez, Steve Zahn, Chris Hemsworth, Milla Jovovich, Marley Shelton.

Great acting, great character development, great actions, great twist, what more do we need for a thriller flick? For more, check out my review.

5)  FAQ About Time Traveling.

Cast: Chris O’Dowd, Dean Lennox Kelly, Marc Wotton, Anna Faris.

Don’t expect it to be a classic. A whole new different kind of take on the topic ‘time-travelling’. In my opinion, greatly imaginative and funny. The visuals are amazing for a low budget film like this one. Don’t think it’s just a comedy, it also falls in the Fantasy or Sci-Fi genre. I had a good time watching it.

David Seville and chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore, return in the sequel to lay waste to Seville’s surroundings and sing in three-part harmony. The sequel movie introduce the Chipmunks’ female counterparts, the Chipettes.

Eight and a half Stars out of Ten Stars (********½/**********)

When this film first came to my attention half-way through 2005, as a sexually confused 18 year old boy I was understandably incredibly excited. You couldn’t really get much more ‘target audience’, could you? A gay cowboy movie, with Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. Hell, at that point in my life I was clearly going to lap this up and call it Citizen Kane whatever. Come on, it had been eight years since Leo and Kate met on the Titanic – I needed myself an event movie.

And then up limbered this glacial, delicate, almost underplayed love story. Brokeback Mountain is not without its flaws, which are slightly more apparent to me with the passing of time, but nevertheless it remains a searing mix of tragedy and frail beauty, underpinned by heart-wrenching performances and stunning lensing.

For me the film succeeds by capturing the intimacy and fleeting happiness of the two lovers as they grow to know each other whilst working on Brokeback Mountain. These scenes are fantastically beautiful; with stunning landscapes interspersed with intimate shots of the two young men. Ang Lee envelops us in their world for the first part of the film, and so all the subsequent action off the mountain, all the pain and tragedy of a love that is never really able to be fulfilled, hits home with complete authenticity.

Michelle Williams plays a blinder with limited screentime as Ledger’s struggling wife, owning two incredibly powerful scenes; the first as she inadvertently witnesses her husband embrace Gyllenhaal, and the second as she finally confronts him about it many years later. Anne Hathaway is also memorable in her final scene. Unfortunately, the film often lags in the second half, with only Heath Ledger’s searing portrayal of repression remaining truly visceral. The actors seem to age awkwardly, and the additions of further minor characters, such as Gyllenhaal’s father-in-law, or Ledger’s new girlfriend, and oldest daughter, seem superfluous and bog down the pacing. But this doesn’t really matter, as we are able to stay with Ledger. In fact, in many ways these moments are intentionally plodding, and convey the endurance which the character feels he must weather.

Ledger’s final scenes never fail to stir up really deep emotions within me. We remember, as he does, his happiest moments on Brokeback Mountain, and because of this we can feel, as well as just see, the pain he must have from letting those times pass in to a memory. I find it to be a truly affecting piece of cinema.

‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs‘ can best be described in one word: fun. In this short and sweet animated film we have quite a bit of fun watching Flint Lockwood make food fall from the sky.

The core of the film is, as I said, about fun. Flint (voiced by Bill Heder) makes inventions which complicate simple things, like a TV remote where, instead of the channel changing, the TV sprouts legs and walks to you so that you can push the button. His crowning invention is a machine that turns water into food. This is supposed to fix the problem of there only being sardines to eat on his home island, which is hidden under the T where ‘Atlantic Ocean’ is written on a map.

Quirks like these make the film great. The father/son storyline isn’t the freshest thing out there, but it is enough to string together our characters and the falling food.

The cast includes Bill Heder, Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell, Mr. T, and Neil Patrick Harris. It’s one of those great ensembles which makes me think, “Who isn’t in this movie?” Other than Faris and Heder, the others are only minor characters, but each is unique in their own way.

Odd that I watched this on the same day as ‘2012′. I watched ‘2012′ first, and I wanted to follow that disaster movie with something upbeat. ‘Meatballs’ was much more upbeat, but to my surprise it was also quite the disaster movie. At least this one had some flavor to it.

Plot: The most delicious event since macaroni met cheese. Inspired by the beloved children’s book, the film focuses on a town where food falls from the sky like rain.

Când ultima maşinărie inventată de Flint pentru a transforma apa în mâncare distruge din greşeală întreaga piaţă centrală a oraşului, sărind în aer până la nori, el crede că şansa lui de a deveni inventator s-a pierdut definitiv.  Dar deodată se întâmplă un lucru neaşteptat – din norii unde zburase maşinăria încep să cadă cheeseburgeri.  Deci, maşina lui funcţionează!  Ploaia de mâncare devine un succes instantaneu, iar Flint se împrieteneşte pe dată cu Sam Sparks, o prezentatoare a rubricii meteo care venise în oraş pentru  a comenta ceea ce numea ea “cel mai important fenomen meteorologic din istorie.”  Dar atunci când oamenii lacomi încep să ceară tot mai multă mâncare, maşinăria începe să se comporte haotic, împroşcând lumea cu tornade de spaghete şi chiftele uriaşe. Când oraşul e pe cale să fie îngropat sub munţi de bezele şi cascade de pepeni verzi, Flint şi Sam trebuie să-şi folosească experienţa şi priceperea pentru a opri maşina şi pentru a restaura normalitatea în oraş.

Based on the 1978 children’s book by husband and wife team Judi and Ron Barrett, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is about an aspiring young inventor named Flint Lockwood. Flint lives on the island sardine fishing town Swallow Falls, which is facing a deep economic depression ever since sardines were declared to be “super gross”. When Flint invents a machine that turns water into food and then accidentally launches that machine into the stratosphere, he inadvertently saves the town when it starts to rain food. However, just when things are looking up for Flint, the food starts to mutate, resulting in bigger and bigger portions falling from the heavens to threaten not only Swallow Falls but the entire world.

Bill Hader energetically provides the voice for Flint and after doing so many scene-stealing comedic supporting roles in films such as Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Adventureland and Tropic Thunder it is nice to see Hader (well, his voice anyway) getting a lead role. Anna Faris (The House Bunny and The Scary Movie films) is also terrific voicing Sam Sparks, weather presenter and Flint’s love interest. After Princess Fiona’s transformation in Shrek, the moment in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs when Sam drops her faux ditz act to reveal her inner nerd provides one of the more impressive statements in a family film about what qualities make somebody attractive. Other impressive voice-roles include James Caan as Flint’s distant yet endearing father, Bruce Campbell as Swallow Falls’s corrupt and inept mayor and Mr. T as an over zealous police officer.

The computer-generated animation nicely facilitates the rapid-fire humour and increasingly bizarre spectacle of giant items of food falling from the sky. A lot of attention has been paid to the characters’ facial expressions so that characterisation is not secondary to the action. The humour in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is often anarchic, wicked, random and very funny. This is a fun film with a lot of spirit. It is filled with wonderfully dreadful food puns and even effectively parodies disaster films. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs has a lot going for it and it is honestly very difficult to say anything bad about a film that includes a complete throw-away gag where a man rips his own beard off for no good reason.

My fears are being realised. Anna Faris may never appear on screen as a brunette again. Even more concerning is her threatening line-up of features including Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Yogi Bear (doing voices for both, guaranteeing a non-brunette appearance other than as an animal… Win?). Anyhow, this is irrelevant in a film review.

The House Bunny ticks most of the boxes for a generic semi-romantic comedy, which are both its charm and its flaw. At no point does the film attempt anything different or new. Instead it sticks to a tried, tested and often tired formula, never pushing any boundaries. But then why should it? It’s not a film that can be easily misunderstood.

The storyline is worryingly close to that of numerous similar chick-flicks, but none more so than Clueless. Yet in its laziness The House Bunny has a certain charm about it that makes it so easy to forgive its flaws.

There’s no gross-out comedy here, and the only slightly tarnishing element is its clumsy message that it’s what’s on the inside that counts… but it sure helps if you can look a little bit sexy too.

I am unsure if Anna Faris is either suited to these roles, or these roles are suited to her. Either way, she brings enough character and personality to them that always make her a very watchable actress, and this is no exception.

A sturdy cast in Colin Hanks, Kat Dennings and Emma Stone (showing big star potential) allow Faris’s ditzy Playboy bunny Shelley to take the film safely out of the realms of believability. I can’t find a more perfect word to describe everything about this film…

Simple.

Anna Faris está en negociaciones para ver si es la hija de Robin Williams en la comedia romántica “Wedding Banned” para el estudio de Touchstone.

El estudio de Universal Pictures ha comprado la comedia denominada “TMI” en la cual Ryan Reynolds y Anna Faris están viendo si la protagonizan.

Según los informes del Variety, el guión fue escrito por Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith junto con Marc Klein, y dicen que trata el tema de que aunque la “honestidad” es lo mejor en una relación, “mucha información” puede que sea algo exagerado.

So, it’s less than a month until I come home! While I could not be more excited, it’s also a little sad because Josh will not be making the trip with me. He comes home a little over a week after me and since we’ve been married it will be the longest we have been apart. I think the longest we’ve been apart before was when he was in Africa. I think we handle the distance well, it’s just not something I look forward to. Plus he’ll be returning to Grenada in January a lot earlier than I am so again I’ll end up missing him.

I guess I shouldn’t complain. I mean I really shouldn’t expect to have both the things that I want right now. I want to be home ( although I do love the beach here ) and I want to have more time with my husband. However, school takes away all of that. I know things aren’t going to get any easier when he starts residency either. It’s hard. I love Josh so much and while we spend a lot of time in the same apartment, he’s almost always studying so it’s not exactly husband and wife time together.

Earlier tonight was great though. He took a break from studying and watched my favorite movie with me, Just Friends. It’s actually one of the first movies we saw together at the theater when we started dating. It was just nice to have that relaxing kind of time with him. I hate that he’s so stressed out and there’s nothing I can do. I clean and I cook and try to make sure the house is somewhat accessible for him to find what he needs. He has so many papers lying about, it’s easy for him to lose a few now and then. But all this doesn’t really help him. I can’t study for him. Even if I could I doubt he’d want me to.

On a happier note, I honestly can’t wait for Christmas. Josh and I are so poor so presents will probably either suck or be non-existent for some people from us. And I apologize in advance. We’ll probably only be able to get things for our immediate families. I just want to see some snow. And not just that I want to drive in some snow! Man, I just want to drive period. I miss my car. I miss going on 695 and just listening to music while I cruised. And I miss the music! Never again will I complain about Baltimore’s radio stations. After months of only steel drums and club songs I’m ready to hear some overproduced and overplayed rock and pop.

I went to Limes twice this week. I feel bad because I really want to help out but I just have a lot of trouble with the children touching me. They’re so sweet but they don’t have a great idea of personal space. Part of the reason I’m doing it is to help me surround myself with things that I have problems with. Some days I’m fine and don’t even think about it. This week was definitely hard. I had to force myself to go the second day and I feel bad because a little sat on my lap and I just had to move her off of me.

I’m usually better with the orphans because they just look so lost for love. It’s easier to push it to the back of my head.

Still though, I was feeling bad about that but then I went to the movies with Heather and Julia last night. We saw the remake of Fame ( I don’t recommend anyone see it sorry ) and I realized that just because I’m not doing as well as I’d like with certain things I’m doing better with others. I used to not even be able to sit through a movie in the theater. I didn’t even go to the theater for the longest time! Since meeting Josh though I’ve loved it. I still fidget a bit but I enjoy the experience. I can’t believe how cheap it is to go to the movies here. It’s basically 3$ US. Candy is maybe 80 cents. I don’t think I’ve had Skittles that cheap since I was in elementary school.

Anyway, everybody keep Josh in their thoughts. He’s having more issues with his laptop and while he also has mine to use it’s very frustrating for  him because he already has all his work and files on his.

PS, I found out the other day that the owner of that sweet dog that’s been hanging out around our apartment all the time ( Bella ) gave her up. The dog that came with her is getting adopted by the girl downstairs but nobody seems to want Bella and it breaks my heart. She has the saddest eyes you will ever see on a dog. I wish Josh and I could take her in but we’d have to bring her back on breaks with us and I couldn’t put a dog through that kind of travel. We also can’t afford a pet right now. But still, it breaks my heart. She really is the sweetest.

Anna Faris has become known through the “House Bunny” and “Scary Movie” yesterday attended the Hollywood Film Premiere of “Observe and Report” at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. The Hollywood superstar was wearing a sexy black strapless gown, and evidently enjoyed the Blitzlichgewitter.

Anna, who left in 2007, divorced her husband and actor Ben Indra, has been engaged to actor Chris Pratt 29/01/2009. An exact date will be married when, probably is not fixed yet. Clearly, however, that about the wedding. How did you recently announced, everything in the “Mexican flair to take place.” Whatever could it mean? Chris and Anna are definitely Hollywood’s next dream couple. How sexy Anna Faris is, you can you see in the next video.

“Heeeeeeey Boo-Boo! Is it smarter than the average bear to make a movie about us?”

I saw the other the day that Yogi Bear is going to become a movie. It is being produced by Warner Bros. and will be a live-action/computer-generated movie. So I’m guessing that it will have a similar look to Scooby-Doo. Yogi Bear and Boo Boo will CG characters interacting with the live characters like the ranger.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Dan Akroyd is in negotiations to be the voice of Yogi Bear and Justin Timberlake is in negotiations to be voice of Boo Boo. Also in talks for the movie is Anna Faris, who would play Rachel, a nature documentary filmmaker. Rachel is shooting Yogi and Boo Boo for her next documentary.

Yogi Bear is supposed to begin filming in Auckland, New Zealand, in December. Donald DeLine is the film’s producer.  Eric Brevig, director of Journey to the Center of the Earth, will be directing and Brad Copeland, writer of Wild Hogs, wrote the script.

I guess it was inevitable that Yogi Bear be made into a movie. Not only has Hollywood been recycling every kids’ show and comic book into movies, many of them have been highly successful. Let’s face it. Adults like to see how their favorite cartoon icons are brought to life. Plus, a new generation of kids are introduced to the characters.

 From a marketing standpoint, you already have the original cartoons that can be repackaged and released to coincide with the movie. It’s a pretty profitable formula.

 The trick is to make the movie true to the original. Some movies work like Scooby Doo and Transformers. Others, like G.I. Joe and Speed Racer, fall flat. Hopefully, Yogi Bear will be one of the former ones. I always enjoyed the cartoon.

Hace algo más de un año comenté la noticia de este proyecto. El cincuentón por entonces, oso Yogi (fue creado en 1958) iba a ser llevado a la pantalla grande.

Estamos a finales de 2009, y ahora, todo más o menos perfilado, el film se encuentra en fase de pre-producción. El personaje nacido de la imaginación de William Hanna y Joseph Barbera (Hanna-Barbera Productions), ambos ya fallecidos, da el salto al cine, y se negocia su participación con tres actores.

Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake y Anna Faris, según The Hollywood Reporter.

A fecha de hoy ya está confirmada la participación de Justin Timberlake, que será la voz de Boo-Boo, y parece también confirmada la de Anna Faris, que aunque no sabemos a quien prestará su voz, presumimos que será a Cindy Bear, la novia de Yogi, quien siempre le reprende por robar las cestas de merienda a los visitantes del Jellystone Park.

De confirmarse también la presencia de Dan Aykroyd, le otorgamos por anticipado la voz del protagonista, Yogi.  

Rhythm and Hues Studios desarrollará con CGI los personajes animados de Yogi y Boo-Boo, y personajes de carne y hueso interactuarán con ellos.

El film lo financia Hanna-Barbera Productions, y lo distribuirá Warner Bros.  Dirige Eric Breving, aunque en un principo parecía que lo iba a hacer Ash Brannon.  El guión es de Brad Copeland.

El comienzo del rodaje está previsto para el mes próximo en Nueva Zelanda, y la intención de la distribuidora es estrenar el film en 2011.
