When I hear the name Anne Hathaway my mind drifts to sappy romantic comedies and titles like Princess Diaries, Devil Wears Prada, and Bride Wars.  Basically, I think of movies that are low on impact and have little to no weight after their initial viewing.  Rachel Getting Married is an enormous departure from these movies for Anne Hathaway in content, and I am happy to say that her acting lived up to the expectations appropriate to such a drama.   

Rachel Getting Married, directed by Jonathan Demme,  follows Kym (Anne Hathaway) who is a young woman just leaving a rehabilitation center and reentering her homelife that is currently in a frenzy of new people and faces as her older sister Rachel (Rosemarie DeWitt) prepares for her impending wedding.  The narrative unfolds slowly with the details behind family tension and Kym’s rehab experience revealing themselves naturally in the dialogue captured by the homemovie-like camera from the ensemble cast.  Punctuated by live music played by characters in the film, Demme casts away the usual recipe for family dramas by exposing tensions and character flaws/complexities from the first scene rather than crafting an upright and happy family that is gradually broken down.  The entire cast acts impeccably, making the story all the more believable.  Altogether his choices make for an intense and visceral experience, one that feels almost too close to reality for comfort at times (which is emphasized by the presence of a handheld camera throughout the film, the soundtrack that is embedded in real time, and the pacing that is slow at times but rich with what feel like real family experiences).  I give the movie an 8/10.

Most main characters met in the story are represented by a chess piece, with Alice herself being a pawn. However, the moves described in the ‘chess problem’ cannot be carried out legally due to a move where white does not move out of check (a list of moves is included – note that a young child might make this error due to inexperience).

Although the chess problem is generally regarded as a nonsense composition because of the story’s ‘faulty link with chess’, the French researchers Christophe LeRoy and Sylvain Ravot have argued that it actually contains a ‘hidden code’ by Carroll to the reader.

The code is supposed to be related to Carroll’s relationship with Alice Liddell, and apparently contains several references to Carroll’s favorite number, 42.

The theory and its implications have been criticized for lack of solid evidence, misrepresenting historical facts about Carroll and Alice, and flirting with numerology and esotericism.

Oh, no, not esotericism. I simply cannot brook such a thing.

Anne Hathaway Up for 'Spider-Man 4' Role?

at Deadline Hollywood reports through her sources (who, when it comes to Marvel, seem to be pretty reliable) that producers have “approached” Anne Hathaway regarding a starring role in Spider-Man 4. It doesn’t say she’s been offered the role, or that she’s in negotiations to take on the role, only that she’s been approached.

Finke also wasn’t sure which role it would be, though all signs point to it being that of Black Cat — who, in the past couple weeks — has seen everyone from Julia Stiles to Rachel McAdams vying for a piece of that pus … Spidey pie. Hathaway definitely showed off her acrobatic side in last summer’s Get Smart, and certainly has enough of that hottie-yet-down-to-earth sex appeal to draw Mr. Parker into a web of problematic romantic entanglements. Personally, I still like Stiles for the role, but that’s me. The studio, however, probably figures they’ll get more butts in the seats with Hathaway. So we’ll see. Regardless, we’re getting close to an official announcement. Who do you want?

O site do jornal O Dia reproduziu matéria do Deadline Hollywood, que divulgou informações de que a produção do quarto Homem-Aranha no cinema quer a atriz Anne Hathaway no elenco do filme:

De acordo com as fontes do site, a “Sony Pictures insiste que nenhuma decisão foi feita ainda, mas fontes me dizem que os produtores se aproximaram de Anne Hathaway para estrelar no título”.

O papel de Hathaway seria de um novo personagem, se fala na vilã Gata Negra. Porém, nada foi confirmado ainda em relação aos novos personagens da história. O filme, que será dirigido novamente por Sam Raimi, começa a ser produzido em 2010 e chega aos cinemas em 2011.

   Nikki Finke, who in the past has proven to have sources deep within Marvel Entertainment, is now reporting that producers are very interested in casting Anne Hathaway in a “starring role” in Spider-Man 4.
   If you’ve been following the rumor mill for the last few days, then you’ve heard a bunch of different names supposedly in consideration for the new female lead role, rumored to be Black Cat, in the Spider-man fourquel including Rachel McAdams (who has since denied the reports), Romola Garai (who auditioned for the role), and Julia Stiles (who also met with casting directors). All four actresses fall into the near 30-year-old age range. Hathaway is the only one of the bunch who has a vastly different look, and darker hair.

De lo que dicen es que ya los productores se han acercado a ella para que esté en la movie, pero claro, SONY no ha admitido nada. Sin embargo, de lo que saben es que la quieren para que haga un papel princpal, y no, ella no reemplazará a Kirsten Dunst que sigue viva para esta cuarta iteración de la cinta.

De los rumores que circulan por la red, dicen que también estarán Julia Stiles y Rachel McAdams. Se dice que una de ellas podría ser The Black Cat pero todo está en “veremos”.

Sam Raimi sigue siendo el director de esta cinta para que se estrene en mayo del 2011 y con toda la intención de empezar a filmar en cuanto comience el 2010.

Ontem a Sony desmentiu a participação da Gata Negra no longa, mesmo assim é mais provável é que a personagem realmente seja a vilã do filme. Se isso acontecer mesmo,  Anne Hathaway seria uma excelente escolha para o papel. A ideia não seria tão absurda, já que está na moda triângulos amorosos e o plano dos produtores seria de que a Gata Negra mexeria com a relação de Peter Parker e Mary Jane.

As filmagens de Homem Aranha 4 começam em março do ano que vem e a estreia acontece em 6 de maio de 2011.

I love Anne Hathaway as the young girl struggling to make something of herself in The Devil Wears Prada.

I wish they did #2 movie, I loved watching her dress up in different fashions, deal with a bitch of a boss and make something of herself.

I think it’s every girls dream to be a success.

We love reading books about girls that are successful.

We enjoy watching romantic comedies and movies where the female character is someone who is strong, smart and witty.

Meryl Streep was awesome as the bitch from hell boss in this movie.

I’ll bet she had fun doing it too!

I also liked one of Meryl Streep’s other movies, Death Becomes her, with Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis.

That movie kept me in stitches and I can watch both of them on DVD’s over and over again!

Anne Hathaway é a personagem central do filme, uma jovem mimada e problemática que sai da rehab pra participar do casamento de sua querida irmã e como uma “boa” ovelhinha negra vai “cagar” quase tudo. A atriz conseguiu uma indicação ao Oscar e realmente é sua melhor performance no cinema até agora.
Destaque ao super elenco[a excelente Rosemarie DeWitt como a noiva, Bill Irwin como o pai, a sumida Debra Winger como a mãe ausente, a supresa do Tunde Adebimpe lider da banda TV on the Radio como o noivo, e o gato do Mather Zickel como amigo do noivo...uffie] e ao clima indie e multicultural do filme[a cerimônia do casamento vai de referências do hindu à presença de passistas de escola de samba]. Taí um Complexo de Édipo que não me irritou!
