I am telling you!!!! it is amazing the amount of celebrities that choose Mexico for a holiday….. I insist……many of us are “scared” to travel to Mexico and these people dont even think twice about it!!!!!!…..well….lets follow their footsteps!!!!!!   I am already!!……but…I never heard about this place called ” Costalegre “….. it is a place located in Mexico…between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo!!!!!…..again…my beloved Puerto Vallarta area is the one!!!! Francis Ford Copolla, Cindy Crawford, Meryl Streep, Annie Lenox!!, Richard Gere and Sting!!!!!….they love this beautiful place!!! very exclusive and quite!!!!! Need to go there soon…..and enjoy that part of my beloved Mexico!!!!

Yesterday was unseasonably warm here. And as for today? It’s currently 56?!. I’ve been hanging out around in the house and the neighborhood in only a t-shirt and jeans, and it is awesome. It’s also deliciously overcast, gloomy, and gray. And while I do enjoy summer, shorts, and little sundresses, sometimes I just want to stalk the streets in weather that’s mirrors my mood. Every now and then I notice that my February Funk (to borrow a phrase from decorator Nick Olsen) has carried over.

Which might explain the Lennox.

And well– I’ve never really gotten over the 90s. Oh the 90s, where everything looked like a bruise.

I haven’t left my bed all day except to either eat, smoke, or use the restroom.  Perhaps this will change if I either get a job and/or chairs and a table.  We’re still working on furniture here.

* For some reason, a lot of music videos on any of the majors is not allowing videos to be embedded.
** Precious also falls into another niche category that I particularly enjoy, ones that feature religious imagery and iconography in the secular frame of music videos. This could be part and parcel of being raised Catholic. Who knows?

The American Music Awards celebrates mediocrity this year. 

Hey guys, the American Music Awards comes on once a year and in years past it has been know to be the hallmark of what’s creative in the music industry.  Unfortunately this year it was a far cry from it’s usual talent filled event of the past.  The Winners were gifted with an award that look like an invitation to impale yourself.  A clear tall slender Pyramid.  However there were a few bright spots in the show this year.  I almost didn’t even post this blog, because I was interrupted so many times by my Alzheimer’s father who was nervous and wanted to talk.  But it seems that my interruptions were really not important to the overall role of this reporter where the AMAs are involved. 

The show opened with Christina Aquilera looking a lot like Gwen Stephanie.  But when Christine opened with “I am beautiful…”  (Which is a personal favorite of mine.) All bets were off.  Christine put together a great show filled with handsome Studs and beautiful gals.  The show was not completely original.   It reminded me a lot of Madonna’s shows. 

Jimmy Kimmel the host of the American Music Awards this year and for the past 5 years came on and kicked off the awards with a few jokes.  And from there he introduced the New Kids on the Block.  What was that all about? Hello? New Kids on the Block from the eighties?

You know, I’ve got to say something about this.  What has happened to the AMAs?  It used to be a show that would introduce all the new artists for the year.  There were so many new stars, the show would go on and on.  Now, they’re bringing back has beens from years past?  Why?  The New Kids on the Block only appealed to a small portion of the market that quickly outgrew it.  They last were seen on the AMAs in 1990s. Do they deserve an appearance on the AMAs??  No.

Pink was on the show as her glorious self, wearing a long demure mauve gown.  Her hair chic.  And her music was all about that. 

I missed about an hour of the show as I turned to HBO’s True Blood Final Episode for this season.  Only to tune-in later to the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus whom I will not comment on.  As I feel that their participation in this industry, at their young age, will eventually bring them great harm.  As it has done to so many others. Also, can anyone say Marketing Package, not true talent? 

Annie Lennox won lifetime-achievement Award Of Merit trophy and graced us with a performance that was both beautiful and remarkable.  Her performance was probably more true to herself than all the past years of her performances have been.  And taught us what it meant to leave behind a mature image of your younger self (I wonder if that makes any sense to you the audience?)

Motley Crue announced the POP/ROCK award where Daughtry was the winner.  Which Daughtry can place proudly next to all the grammies he won this year.  I was pineing for the Eagles.  Coldplay and the Eagles were among the nominees with Daughtry. 

Daughtry was followed by Kayne West whos music did not sound all that innovative at all (I was disappointed).  It sounded more like he over reached and missed the mark completely.  The AMAs is no place to try out a new sound.  It’s only for those tried and true winners. 

Alicia Keyes performed and had a number of known artists join her during her performance.  Alicia Keyes is a true artist in every sense of the word.  She demonstrated both style and grace during her performance both in dress and sound. 

And the Pussycat Dolls were their usually innovative selves.  However, I did see pretty much the same show on one of the daytime talkshows about a month ago.  Costumes were different, but the song was the same.  I like the Pussycat Dolls, but I think they are selling themselves short.  There’s a lot of untapped talent just waiting to expose itself.  Its time to grow beyond the image now. 

All in all the AMAs this year were a disappointment.  Few new talent and the show seemed to be mastermind by someone who really didn’t understand what real talent is all about.  When the AMAs are done right, Musicians appear gifted, talented and truly delight everyone.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed for next year.

Annie Lennox picked up the Award Of Merit at the prestigious American Music Awards on Sunday (23 November 2008).

Lennox joins music legends Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and Whitney Houston who have all collected the special award in the past.

To celebrate the accolade, Lennox, who has been through grueling physiotherapy over the past months – performed in an emotional show that had the crowd on their feet.

I heard it yesterday on the ipod while working out, and it just sounded so good I listened to it twice. 

 So, it would seem that this week is going well, and thats a surprise…usually in my industry the week before a holiday is insane, and everyone needs everything before Friday or heads explode and panties get bunched…but it’s Thursday and I haven’t seen anything horrifying on the horizon.

I’ve been watching the DNC, it’s fairly interesting, in particular the less well known politicians, who are not used to addressing big crowds…it kind of looks like a high school student council campaign.  Which reminds me, have you seen the audience at the DNC?  Do these people know that this is a big political event, not a college football game, Ive seen alot of stupid hats, and face painting…thank gawd Im not a democrat because the average joe democrat appears to be an ass cracker…but I may be wrong.

What people won’t do for the lord…this is a legitimate (or as legit you can get as a hooker for jesus) website so check it out, it’s interesting.  I have to go to work, tonight is shoulder night at the gym, should be fun and painful….how about another song

Annie Lennox, Ely Guerra y las actrices Nora Huerta, Cecilia Sotres, Ana Francis Mor y Marisol Gasé marcharan en apoyo a mujeres con el Virus de Inmunodeficiencia Humana (VIH), manifestación que se realizará el próximo cinco de agosto.

Annie Lennox, quien siempre ha demostrado su apoyo a las mujeres, comentó “quiero que esta maldición no ataque a más mujeres”. Annie visita nuestro país sin fines de promoción, además dijo que no piensa hacer alguna presentación en su visita.

En el marco de la XVII Conferencia Internacional de VIH/sida (AIDS 2008) y bajo el lema de “Todas las mujeres, todos los derechos”, múltiples personalidades apoyaran el evento considerado como el más importante dentro del rubro de la prevención del VIH/sida y uno de los más grandes del mundo sobre la salud.

A-List celebrities like Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Oprah Winfrey descended upon London’s Hyde Park Wednesday for a star-studded dinner as part of a week-long celebration honoring Nelson Mandela.

The former South African president is in London for a series of events to celebrate his 90th birthday, including a big outdoor concert at Hyde Park on Friday — with proceeds benefiting his 46664 charity. The show coincides with the 20th anniversary of London’s Free Mandela concert, which called for his release from prison.

Mandela has received guests and dignitaries from all over the world during his stay. Ok, I know I’m “All American Idol, All The Time” for the past few days, but it’s my moment of zen right now, and it’s what I feel like blogging about at the present time. I promise my usual variety of topics soon!

Tonight was the “Idol Gives Back” show. A variety of celebrities (even Brad Pitt!) came on the show and shared their experiences of going to impoverished areas. Viewers are then asked to donate. It was a good show overall with performances by Heart with Fergie, an amazingly touching clip and performance by Annie Lenox, Daughtry, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood, etc.

I was multitasking while watching, but stopped cold when Ryan Seacrest says, “Here are your Idols singing, ‘Shout To The Lord’.”

Huh?

Yep…the Idol contestants closed the show with a praise & worship song! Ok, they conspicuously omitted the name “Jesus” from the performance. But you know what? I’m not going to criticize them for it…it’s understood who the “Lord” is they are referring to, and I give major kudos to the producer for being bold enough to include it!
