Wie bereits hier beschrieben hat in meiner unmittelbaren Nähe ein GameStop Store eröffnet und ich konnte einfach nicht widerstehen mir neues “Futter” für meine XBox 360 zu besorgen, noch dazu zu einem fast unschlagbaren Preis von 19,99€! Bei besagtem Knüller handelt es sich um “Ein Quantum Trost – 007″ der Versoftung zum gleichnamigen Kinofilm aus dem Jahre 2008 (sowohl Spiel- als auch Filmveröffentlichung).

Anfangs grübelte ich noch länger nach, da ich eigentlich ein Spiel zu einer ganz anderen Filmreihe kaufen wollte, dass aber leider nicht für die XBox 360 im Laden vorrätig war. Egal, die kann ich mir notfalls auch bei einem bekannten Online-Auktionshaus, dessen Namen “eBay” ich hier aus werberechtlichen Gründen nicht nennen darf, ersteigern

Das Spiel selbst kann man als solide, jedoch nicht als überragend bezeichnen. Ihr steuert James Bond und erlebt die Story von “Casino Royale” und “Ein Quantum Trost”. Leider ist die Geschichte sehr verwirrend erzählt. Wer die Filme nicht kennt wird der Geschichte nicht folgen können und nur die Levels durchspielen. Jeder der die Filme kennt wird entscheidende Momente der Filme wieder erkennen, sich jedoch über ihre Umsetzung wundern. Vieles musste zwangsläufig abgeändert werden, um genügend Spiellänge zu haben. Übrigens lässt sich zur Spiellänge sage, dass diese deutlich zu kurz ausgefallen ist. Ich habe ungefähr drei Tage lang jeweils drei Stunden gespielt also ungefähr sechs Stunden gebraucht, bis ich den Abspann gesehen habe. Für einen Budgettitel von 20€ gerade mal ausreichend, aber wenn ich bedenke, dass es sich hierbei mal um einen Vollpreistitel von 50€ handelte, empfinde ich das als Frechheit.

Das Spiel selbst ist als Action Shooter ausgelegt. Ihr steuert Bond großteils aus der Ego Perspektive. Lediglich wenn ihr in Deckung geht wechselt das Spiel in die Third-Person Ansicht und ihr bekommt das Polygon Antlitz von Daniel Craig aka James Bond zu Gesicht.

Grundsätzlich beschränkt sich das Gameplay auf einige wenige Aspekte. Ihr lauft durch die Levels, Gegner tauchen auf, ihr geht in Deckung und erledigt sie. Immer wieder gibt es dann QickTime Events, bei denen ihr möglichst schnell die angegebene Taste drücken müsst. Zwischen den einzelnen Levels seht kurze Videosequenzen. Ab und zu sind das Umsetzungen der Filmszenen in der Spiel Engine, meistens aber nur “Besprechungen” des MI6 (der britische Geheimdienst), die versuchen die Geschichte weiter zu erzählen. Vieles wurde zwar schön aus den Filmen übernommen, aber es wirkt doch recht fremd. Es hätte mich zum Beispiel gefreut noch einen Level aus der Boschaft in Madagaskar aus “Casino Royale” oder die Verfolgungsjagd gleich am Anfang aus “Ein Quantum Trost” gehabt zu haben. Letztere wurde nur als öde Zwischensequenz spendiert, bei der nicht mal der Film Song “Another Way to Die” von Jack White und Alicia Keys, sondern ein unbekannter Titel eingefügt wurden.

Dem Spiel wurde auch ein Multiplayer Part spendiert, den ich zwar noch nicht ausprobiert habe, aber dessen Arbeit lieber in weitere Levels für den Einzelspieler Teil verwendet hätte werden sollen.

Die Grafik des Spiels sieht gut aus, da die Call of Duty 4 Engine verwendet wurde. Daniel Craig ist gut als solcher zu erkennen, M auch. Bei anderen Charakteren wird es da schon schwieriger. Mr. White sieht dem Filmgegenstück fast nicht ähnlich. Lobenswert ist, dass die Original Synchronsprecher der Filme verpflichtet wurden und auch der Original Soundtrack (außer der o.g. Außnahme) verwendet wurden.

FAZIT:
Das Spiel macht zwar Spaß ist aber keine grandiose Umsetzung. Es ist aber auch nicht grottenschlecht. Bei den Levels wurde viel richtig gemacht, jedoch sind diese insgesamt viel zu kurz ausgefallen. Wer Action Spiele und James Bond mag kann sich diesen Titel zulegen. Wer noch warten kann sollte sich dieses Jahr lieber Modern Warfare 2 kaufen. Das stammt vom selben Entwickler, jedoch hat schon sein Vorgänger mehr richtig gemacht als “Ein Quantum Trost”

EDIT: Nicht wundern ich habe dem Spiel eine kleine Aufwertung gewährt, da der Multiplayerpart, den ich ein wenig angetestet habe ganz in Ordnung scheint und eine gewisse Langzeitmotivation birgt.

If you’re playing the game and don’t save often then you may want to stray away from these scenarios. In the game there are five different ways to die.

1. Shot by Vlad.

I have been looking for this!

This is probably the most popular reason for dying. Its funny how you would make less noise putting the Rubaiyat in your case than by opening up the control panel to another coal chute and leaving it there and yet Vlad notices you have it if you try and take it away there and then. It’s lucky that this occurs early on in the game and teaches people to save often.

2. Shot by Sasha.
After Georgia has given you her necklace to look after and you find Charles in the smoking room, rather tipsy from the drinking he tells you that the necklace is a fake. The authentic necklace is in Sasha’s cabin locked in that rather annoying combination safe masked as a Russian doll. Unlike the sly Riviera, Sasha is no expert on spotting a fake but is one for noticing his jewels are missing. If you don’t exchange the fake for the real one and try and exit via the cabin door he’ll shoot you when he catches you in there.

Alternatively, you can obtain both necklaces by using the map to jump straight out of the cabin and avoid any confrontation with him at all.

I never take 'no' for an answer

It’s the next day, you’ve already hit the iceberg, you’ve changed your discs and you’re no longer permitted to jump using the map function (which I really find bothersome.) You also have the painting and decide to visit Zeitel in the first class lounge where most of the passengers are waiting. The sly dog still wants the painting, although his percentage of staying alive is pretty slim without your help. He’s only gone and poisoned Georgia. At first he gives you a choice as to whether to help him or not and if you say no he’s not really bothered. He wants to trade you the antidote for Lady Georgia for the painting. What makes him kill you is when you agree at first to help and then refuse to hand over the painting. He doesn’t take no for an answer!

4. Go down with the ship.
What more can I say, do bugger all, talk to people, and waste your time talking to the swindler Trout or the society wench Cashmore and you’ll find that you’ve missed the last boat at 2:00am. You’re no use to anybody now!

5.  Fail to defuse Zeitel’s bomb
Not only do you die but you manage to blow away half the side of the ship as well.  At least you get as many goes to do this as possible.

Final thoughts: What’s weird about the first three killings is that they are all committed with no foresight into whether they’d be caught. Vlad shoots you in front of a load of witnesses (i.e. the stokers); Zeitel shoots you in either the first class lounge or the boat deck. He may get away with it on the boat deck, especially after Andrew Conkling’s demise on deck but surely not in such a sophisticated place as the first class lounge.

As for Sasha, after listening to the audio segment it’s interesting to learn that Sasha just shuts the door of his cabin and leaves your dead body there expecting not to found out. It’s an early night for him and a nice comfort that the steward he called for will be on his way up soon to fix those dodgy lights.

People may comment that there are a few other ways to die.  For example when Officer Morrow threatens to shoot you.  A seaman on the boat deck also threatens this.  That is all they do, threaten.

I have always appreciated the bond movies, always, even the bad ones that people don’t like to talk about I find appealing in a gloriously watchable manner. There are many different parts to the big James Bond pie; spy intrigue, action, overblown travel expenses, gadgets, suits, gambling, pretty girls, undercover action… er, I might just stop before my pedantry gets the better of me…

I recently picked up Quantum of Solace on DVD, which is not exactly a format that gives it justice and, frankly, this one could use all the help it could get. The story for Quantum is killed most, not by anything it does, but by it’s inability to match up to it’s predecessor. The great big shadow that the near-perfect Casino Royale casts upon this small tale of revenge and gratuitous action sequences makes Quantum feel a bit like a regression, though not towards the back catalogue of previous Bond movies, more towards the influences our new Bond has… To be fair, when I say influences what I mean is influence, singular, Bourneular.

My post today, however, is not about the film itself but in fact another of the many slices: the songs. You see, all day today I have had a single beat stuck in my head, which I have only recently figured out as the intro piece to the new Bond theme by Jack White and that keyboard woman.

As far as I can tell, the Bond franchise stands fairly alone with the music included as a large part of the marketing. Music and films are brilliantly merged, sure, but not many people go out and buy each new variation of the Harry Potter theme. I’m not entirely sure what side of the fence I stand on this nowadays, there have been some truly amazing tracks produced under the James Bond banner (I am a particular fan of the Duran Duran one) and even recently with the Casino Royale intro music and this new rendition I have nothing I can really find fault in… no, no that is not true! I’m pretty good at finding faults in things, and I’ve got just the one for you, in the form of a question:

Why have all the Bond themes been produced by American artists?

The list goes back a whole long way, there hasn’t been an English performer involved in over two decades worth of films; Gladys Knight, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Garbage, Madonna, Chris Connol, Jack White and Alicia Keys? I can’t really complain about these American artists (well, I can.) because some of their songs are not terrible at all. And the latest? It might surprise some to know that, in fact, I’m a big fan of the music, er, just not the annoying whiny singing.

And I love the Casino Royale theme, though I don’t think it’s brilliantly Bond-like it’s pretty awesome (and it comes with the greatest bit of motion graphics I’ve seen). I just want to see something British in there, do people relate to that? What is wrong with our music industry that we can’t even pick a
thematic song from our own shores… or has Bond become so truly
American (that bastard) that slowly we’re willing to hand him over to
the butchery of Hollywood… Or perhaps I’m deluded, and he’s always
been part of the butchery of Hollywood? I’m not sure, but if Casino Royale was about cutting away the build up of faff from Bond, then I’d like to see this new direction take a moment of nostalgic thought and consider bringing in something actually English. For a change.

Also, why is this video not available in England, where it was made…

L’immagine simbolo di 007 Quantum Of Solace, quella che ha fatto scaturire tutto, è 007 nel deserto. Un deserto dell’anima, l’interiorità di un uomo inaridito. Il nuovo 007, come abbiamo imparato a conoscerlo da Casino Royale, è un Bond che soffre, un uomo ferito e sanguinante sia fuori che dentro. In tutto il film Bond viene presentato come iracondo, incontrollabile e sentimentale, non l’uomo freddo e sicuro di sé che eravamo abituati a vedere. Quantum Of Solace, dopo Casino Royale, procede nella decostruzione/ricostruzione dell’eroe, e in questo è un film parallelo a Il cavaliere oscuro, che opera lo stesso intervento su Batman. Non dimentichiamo che dopotutto si tratta di  un “Bond: Begins”, visto che Casino Royale ci aveva riportato all’inizio della sua saga, con un Bond che è fondamentalmente un assassino, è rozzo, e non è ancora il personaggio che conosciamo. “Quello che mi è piaciuto di Daniel Craig in Casino Royale è la capacità di reinventare Bond” racconta il regista Marc Forster in uno degli extra del dvd.

Fondamentale in questa rinascita di un personaggio storico è Daniel Craig. A rivederlo sullo schermo sembra che James Bond sia sempre stato lui. È un duro, Craig, non ne ha solo le sembianze. Se non ci credete guardatevi il primo contenuto speciale del secondo disco, dedicato alle riprese in esterni, e ammirate Craig mentre, imbragato, salta tra i tetti di Siena. È anche a questi aspetti che si deve il realismo del film. Sono donne d’azione, e non più solo presenza ornamental-seducente le Bond Girl: tra gli extra vediamo proprio Olga Kurylenko alle prese con una scena d’azione in barca.  

Trovato un attore, alla saga di 007 serviva un Autore. Può esserlo Marc Forster, al suo primo grande blockbuster (in uno degli extra dedicata vediamo come ami girare in vere location e non in studio). Forster racconta ancora una volta, come ha sempre fatto nella sua carriera, una storia in bilico tra la vita e la morte, in cui l’ombra dei defunti è sempre presente e guida le gesta dei protagonisti. Ci saremmo aspettati più introspezione (visto anche lo script firmato Paul Haggis), in un film che parte in maniera adrenalinica accumulando scene ad alta spettacolarità senza legarle in maniera sufficientemente convincente, per poi rallentare e diventare più intenso nella seconda parte. È probabile che a livello produttivo siano state fatte delle scelte in nome dello spettacolo e che qualcosa sia stato sacrificato in sala montaggio. Ma 007 Quantum Of Solace è un capitolo fondamentale nella costruzione di un personaggio. Che continuerà, con il terzo capitolo della serie update di James Bond. Sempre con il volto del “duro” Daniel Craig. Nel mondo di oggi, ci sembra l’unico Bond possibile.

Da vedere perché: il secondo capitolo del nuovo Bond è imperdibile per fan vecchi e nuovi, soprattutto nell’edizione due dischi, ricca di “file” segreti!

Another Way To Die, Single dari Jack White dan Alicia Keys

Seperti halnya film – film James Bond terdahulu, Quantum Of Solace, film James Bond terbaru yang dibintangi oleh Daniel Craig ini mempunyai theme song yang biasanya dibawakan oleh musisi papan atas. Di film ini, Jack White, penyanyi dan gitaris The White Stripes berkolaborasi dengan pelantun musik R&B-Soul, Alicia Keys. Ini adalah untuk pertama kalinya theme song dibawakan secara duet dalam sejarah film Bond.

Another Way To Die diciptakan dan diproduseri oleh Jack White dibawah label Third Man Record. Selain mengisi vocal, Ia juga memainkan gitar dan drum. Lagu ini dinominasikan dalam kategori Best Short Form Music Video di Grammy Awards 2009, dalam kategori Best Song pada Critics’ Choice Awards 2008, serta memenangi kategori Best Original Song pada Satellite Awards 2008.

Hal yang menarik adalah bahwa theme song Quantum Of Solace ini memiliki aliran Garage Rock yang banyak orang tidak familiar dengan musiknya. Karena memang di band The White Stripes bersama Meg White, Jack mengusung musik Garage Rock yang kreatif dan atraktif, didukung oleh kemampuan gitar Jack White yang sangat mumpuni. Awalnya muncul rumor bahwa Amy Winehouse atau Leona Lewis lah yang akan menjadi performer lagu Bond ini.

Meski Alicia Keys selama ini mengusung musik R&B dan Soul, Ia tetap dapat mengikuti nafas lagu yang lebih berbau rock, sehingga menghasilkan kolaborasi indah antara Jack dan Alicia yang sama – sama memiliki vokal yang khas.

Lagu diawali dengan rhythm berefek dari Jack White, dan dibalas dengan suara piano Alicia Keys dengan background trumpet yang membuat lagu ini lebih berkesan glamour. Kesan minimalis juga terdengar dari lagu ini, seperti lagu – lagu Jack White lainnya. Tetapi kalau didengarkan secara seksama, pada bagian chorus vokal mereka saling menutupi karena terlalu nge-blend, tetapi secara overall lagu ini sangat enak untuk didengar.

Video Klip Another Way To Die dirilis pertama kali di Yahoo! Video pada tanggal 29 September 2008. Dengan video efek dan CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) berupa garis – garis bergelombang sebagai latar, serta setting waktu pagi atau senja. Cuplikan James Bond yang berjalan sambil membawa senjata muncul di bagian terakhir video klip.

I like the Jack White & Alicia Keys song for the new James Bond movie, Another Way to Die. The first time I listened to it, I had some bad flashbacks about Madonna’s horrible song for Die Another Day, but it was short. I’ve listened to Another Way to Die quite a few times and I still enjoy it. The duet is a really good idea and the song is more visceral, just like the new Bond series.

This little contraption looks like something that will most definitely shorten your lifespan.

A pesar de que acostumbran a petar las últimas peliculas con artillería de marketing, James Bond siempre nos ha regalado grandiosos momentos (musicales). De hecho, la banda sonora de esta saga que no tiene fin forma parte de la elegancia que rebosa el protagonista. La música suena madura, huele a Martini y se viste de punta en blanco. Algo así como la traducción a la música de James Stewart.

Por cada película que se anuncia se revuelve tierra, mar y aire en busca del autor de la banda sonora. Para “Quantum Of Solace” han llegado a sospechar de Amy y Duffy como las autoras del tema principal. De hecho, el último single de Duffy es más enchaquetado que el mismísimo Bond. Pero en esta última entrega, cual químicos en prácticas, han mezclado a Jack White con Alicia Keys para ambientar el chiringuito, más que nada. El resultado es un tema que sigue la senda de las trompetas y percusiones del sonido 007 pero con el toque guitarrero de White.

Parece ser que Tom Jones y Tina Turner sí defendían este sonido singular 007, mientras que el mediocre villancico de Shirley Bassey o la canción de Duran Duran (que parece sacada de la careta de algúnos dibujos tipo Oliver y Benji) rompían totalmente con la línea en busca de ¿innovación?. Y luego, llegó el turno de Madonna, que mató a diestro y a siniestro con un pop electrónico bastante defectuoso. Gracias a Jack White, ahora parece que se vuelve a recuperar el glamour del agente que se estaba echando a perder. Por cierto, sálvese quien pueda sin Brosnan.

I went and saw Quantum of Solace a few nites ago. The movie was good but not impressive.
