THE Awami National Party and some of its allies want to change the name of the NWFP to Pakhtunkhwa. However, the PML-N and PML-Q are opposed to this name change and their opposition is blocking the work of a parliamentary committee that is preparing proposals for constitutional reform. It should be interesting to see how the Pakhtunkhwa issue is settled.

The NWFP is one of the federating units of Pakistan. The names of the other three units have a connection with the language spoken by a major segment of the population in each of them. This is not the case with the NWFP. That name gives no clue to the ethnic or linguistic characteristics of its people.

The name was owed to the British rulers’ convenience after they had brought certain areas in the north-western part of their empire together as a single administrative unit. It became the western terminus of their empire which they decided not to extend further west.

The name (NWFP) is relatively new, but the Pushto-speaking Pakhtuns — who compose a substantial majority (about 58 per cent) of its population — have been around for a very long time. The ancient Greek historian, Herodotus, referred to the land they occupied (between the Oxus and Indus rivers) as Pakhtia. The late Prof A.H. Dani, a well-known historian and archaeologist, wrote that closer to our time the word ‘Pakhtunkhwa’ has been occurring in Pushto literature since the 15th century. It has appeared in numerous other writings, including during the reign of Emperor Shahabuddin Ghauri, and more recently in poems composed by Akhund Darwazeh (d. 1838) and Ahmad Shah Abdali, the maker of modern Afghanistan (18th century).

The argument is not valid that since 42 per cent of the people in the NWFP speak Hindko, Seraiki, Chitrali (and two per cent Urdu and Punjabi) the name of the province should not be changed to Pakhtunkhwa.

A substantial number of the residents of southern Punjab speak Seraiki. Some of them have at times demanded a province of their own. But the demand is much too feeble to have engaged the powers that be in spite of the fact that several high-ranking leaders — including the present prime minister — have come from this area.

The central government in South Asian countries is the creator of the provinces within its territory. It can take parts of one and join them with another, abolish some of them and create new ones. The Indian government undertook an extensive reorganisation of states in the mid-1950s in response to popular demand. Tamil-speaking areas were separated from the Telugu-speakers to create the states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Gujarat and Maharashtra were created to separate the Gujarati and Marathi-speaking people. A few years later the state of Haryana was set up to take the Hindi-speaking people out of Punjab. Most recently the Indian government has signalled that it will carve Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh.

Fortunately, similar demands for a redrawing of provincial boundaries have not been as strong in Pakistan. As noted above, the demand for a Seraiki province has all along been feeble. We have at times heard some speak of dividing Balochistan to make its Pakhtun belt a distinct entity. But there has been no great pressure for any such demand.

The troubling issue in Pakistan pertains to an overbearing centre’s supremacy in the federation and the resulting demand for provincial autonomy. All political parties, media people, and organs of civil society endorse this idea. But no party wants to implement the same when it is in power.

The dominant political theory and tradition in the country, inherited from the British, favours a ‘strong centre’. Moreover, the ‘establishment’ — meaning the army, intelligence agencies, bureaucracy, and the barons of commerce and industry — feel that they can exercise their directive role in the country more effectively if they have to deal with one government in Islamabad rather than having to deal with several autonomous governments in the provinces.

It will not matter to Punjabis if Sindhis decide to call their province Sindhu Desh so long as its sponsors do not have any secessionist designs. Similarly it should not — and will not — matter to them and the Sindhis and Baloch if the Pakhtuns opt for Pakhtunkhwa as the new name for the NWFP.

Why, then, are the PML-N and PML-Q opposed to the Pakhtun aspiration? One explanation may be that these parties have little following among the Pakhtuns, but they do have a fair amount of support in the non-Pakhtun segments of the population — the people who speak Hindko or Seraiki and live mainly in the city of Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan, Hazara and the adjoining areas.

It is possible that Nawaz Sharif and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain think that their opposition to Pakhtunkhwa will further firm up their support base among the Hindko and Seraiki sectors. It is hard to say whether this calculation is valid. Its efficacy may depend on whether, and to what extent, the Pakhtun and non-Pakhtun groups are hostile to each other.

In spite of their repeated claims that they place the national interest above all else, the PML leaders have adopted in this case a strategy that appears to be moved by considerations of parochial and partisan interests, not by those of the nation’s good.

The Democracy :- Current President and PM allowed NRO to being debated in the parliament as compared to dictator Musharraf who just issued the ordinance with out taking parliament in confidence, What i can perceive it was establishment and Pervez Musharraf dirty future politics which allowed him to issue this ordinance so that he can create issues in next Govt.

The Root Cause of NRO :- NRO came into existence because Judges and Judiciary were never able and ineligible to solve cases in due time, all the cases against politicians which were being abolished in NRO possess span of more than 5,10,15 years? do we really need that much time to solve cases? if Judiciary was able to solve cases in due time, there wasn’t any need to issue NRO? Since every body is enchanting judiciary is independent, free and fair, but to me we have to wait and see in next six months and analyze how much pending cases they are able to solve in next 6 months.

Solution :-
Judiciary should finish up the cases mess with out corruption and favoritism in coming months and most importantly with out hurting current Democracy.
Parliament should also take action by themselves against ministers and everyone on corruption charges and other law breaking charges
Army shouldn’t interfere in any matter and should keep their nose busy in Army and security matters.

Contrariando o cenário de realização de lucros visto durante a manhã, as principais bolsas operam em alta nesta quarta-feira (2), com o Ibovespa registrando valorização de 0,66% nesta tarde e renovando sua máxima de pontos no ano. Números negativos do mercado de trabalho norte-americano são ofuscados pelo avanço no preço das commodities.

Na pauta econômica dos Estados Unidos, além do aguardo à divulgação do Livro Bege do Fed, as atenções se voltam para os indicadores. O número de postos de trabalho no setor privado do país indicou um recuo de 169 mil, acima dos 150 mil projetados. Por sua vez, o número de pedidos de hipotecas avançou 2,1% na última semana.

Contudo, o que tem ditado o rumo dos negócios nesta sessão são os preços das commodities, com destaque para o ouro, a prata e diversos metais, que registram nova valorização. Exceção apenas para as cotações de petróleo, que registram forte desvalorização, repercutindo os dados dos estoques norte-americanos do produto.

Petrobras
No front interno, o noticiário movimentado ganha a atenção dos investidores. A Petrobras (PETR4) foi autorizada pela ANP (Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis) a perfurar novo poço na porção norte do pré-sal da Bacia de Santos, de profundidade estimada de 6.425 metros.

Ademais, José Sérgio Gabrielli, presidente da companhia, afirmou na noite anterior que o novo plano estratégico vigente até 2014 deverá ser concluído já no começo de 2010. “Nesse momento estamos avaliando mais de 3.500 projetos que entrarão neste novo plano estratégico”, disse o executivo à Agência Estado. As ações da petrolífera operam com leve desvalorização de 0,25%.

Aquisições
O noticiário também dá espaço para novas incorporações. Após meses de negociação, a Caixa Econômica Federal anunciou na véspera a aquisição de 35% do capital social do Banco Panamericano (BPNM4), pertencente ao Grupo Silvio Santos, numa transação que movimentou R$ 739,2 milhões. Com isso, as ações do banco avançam 3,47% neste pregão.

O setor de saúde também entrou em pauta no tema aquisições. Nesta quarta-feira, a ANS (Agência Nacional de Saúde Suplementar) anunciou a aprovação da compra da Amil (AMIL3) pela Medial Saúde (MEDI3), anunciada em novembro. Os papéis da companhia adquirida avançam 3,02%, enquanto os da empresa compradora sobem 0,77%.

Já a Hypermarcas (HYPE3) voltou a realizar novas aquisições. Por um valor de R$ 212,6 milhões, a bola da vez foi a Inal (Indústria Nacional de Artefatos de Látex). Desse montante, R$ 83,544 milhões foram pagos à vista, enquanto que os R$ 129,075 milhões restantes serão pagos em cinco parcelas anuais. As ações da compradora sobem 2,85% nesta tarde.

Destaque de alta
A Braskem (BRKM5) teve seu rating mantido pela agência de classificação de risco Fitch Ratings, mesmo após a adesão da empresa ao Refis (Programa de Recuperação Fiscal). Segundo a equipe, a despeito da pressão sobre o fluxo de caixa, “a forte liquidez deverá permitir que ela honre esses pagamentos”. Com forte alta de 4,48%, os papéis da empresa lideram os ganhos no Ibovespa neste pregão.

Reajuste no pedágio
Por sua vez, a Triunfo Participações (TPIS3) obteve na Justiça a autorização devida para reajuste de tarifas de pedágio de sua controlada Econorte. As cobranças pelo uso das rodovias da empresa, localizadas no norte do Paraná, serão elevadas em 1,46%, segundo comunicado divulgado. As ações da companhia registram valorização de 2,44% na bolsa brasileira.

Desdobramento de ações
A OGX Petróleo (OGXP3), empresa controlada por Eike Batista, anunciou o desdobramento de suas ações na proporção de 1 para 100 – ou seja, cada ação de emissão da companhia passará a ser representada por 100 ações. Os papéis da empresa operam com forte alta de 3,63%.

Oferta da Energias do Brasil
Por fim, a EDP – Energias do Brasil (ENBR3) divulgou os números em torno de sua oferta pública secundária de ações ordinárias, já encerrada. A companhia captou com a operação um total de R$ 441,75 milhões, dos quais mais de 58% veio do exterior. Seus papéis sobem 1,2% nesta tarde.

Cide-combustíveis incide sobre gases liquefeitos

A exigência da contribuição de intervenção no domínio econômico denominada “CIDE-combustíveis” (Contribuição de Intervenção no Domínio Econômico-combustíveis) possui autorização constitucional específica, introduzida pela Emenda 33/2001, no artigo 177, parágrafo 4º da Constituição, tendo sido instituída pela União por meio da Lei 10.336/2001.

A contribuição tem como hipótese de incidência a importação e a comercialização de petróleo e seus derivados, gás natural e seus derivados, conforme artigo 1° da Lei 10.336/2001.^[1]

A referida lei prevê também a incidência da CIDE-combustíveis sobre o gás liquefeito do petróleo, inclusive o derivado de gás natural e nafta.^[2]

A questão que se impõe se restringe à previsão legal de cobrança da CIDE-combustíveis sobre todas as formas de gás liquefeito de petróleo, incluindo-se, o GLP sentido estrito, o propano, o butano, e outros gases liquefeitos[3].

A discussão em torno do tema decorre no disposto no artigo 3°, inciso V, da Lei 10.336/2001, pois em sua redação a cobrança decorre de importação e comercialização de gás liquefeito de petróleo.

Mostrar-se-á o no presente artigo que a denominação contida na lei abrange todos os gases liquefeitos de petróleo e não somente o GLP em sentido estrito.

Inicidência sobre todos os gases liquefeitos de Petróleo

O alcance da norma, ao instituir a exação sobre o gás liquefeito de petróleo, abrange não somente o GLP sentido estrito, ou seja, o GLP produto ou gás de cozinha, que é uma mistura de hidrocarbonetos.

Esclarece-se que o GLP sentido estrito é também conhecido como gás de cozinha e tem em sua composição outros hidrocarbonetos liquefeitos como o propano e o butano.

O propano e o butano são hidrocarbonetos liquefeitos que, embora também sejam componentes do GLP sentido estrito, também são usados separadamente para fins combustíveis, bem como são extraídos do refino do petróleo ou do processamento do gás natural.

E sendo o direito tributário interdisciplinar nos termos artigo 109 Código Tributário Nacional (CTN)[4], cabe à Agência Nacional do Petróleo (ANP) definir o significado de GLP sentido estrito, do propano e do butano, isto é, dos hidrocarbonetos liquefeitos derivados do petróleo ou do gás natural.

E para a ANP o propano, o butano e o GLP sentido estrito são gases liquefeitos decorrentes do refino do petróleo[5] ou do processamento do gás natural[6].

Sendo todos gases liquefeitos de petróleo, portanto, incide a CIDE-combustíveis sobre o GLP sentido estrito e o GLP sentido amplo, neste último caso estão incluídos o propano, o butano e o GLP sentido estrito.

Tal conclusão decorre do fato de a Lei 10.336/2001 ter instituído a CIDE-combustíveis sobre a importação e comercialização de petróleo e seus derivados, gás natural e seus derivados, o que inclui, dessa forma, todos os hidrobarbonetos liquefeitos, sejam eles derivados do petróleo ou do gás natural. Essa é a disposição contida, inclusive, no Projeto e Lei nº 5907/2001, que deu origem à Lei 10.336/2001.

Outro argumento que corrobora a incidência da CIDE-combustíveis sobre todas as formas de gases liquefeitos de petróleo advém dos códigos instituídos pela NCM (Nomenclatura Comum do Mercosul). Os gases liquefeitos do petróleo são classificados na subposição 2711.1, como é o caso do propano 2711.12.10, do butano 2711.13.00 e do GLP 2711.19.10 (aqui em sentido estrito). Portanto, são todos gases liquefeitos do petróleo, hidrocarbonetos liquefeitos.

Entender de forma diferente, seria o mesmo que estabelecer uma isenção sem lei específica, o que vai de encontro ao disposto no artigo 111 do Código Tributário Nacional (CTN)[7].

In talking with many of our customers, I’m often amazed by the number of good folks in the “MAGIC Kingdom” who still don’t fully realize what a significant shift in technology the MEDITECH Advanced Technology now shipping in (parts of) Client/Server version 6.x represents.  Some have even been led to believe 6.x is just another run-of-the-mill ring release that you migrate to after C/S 5.6.  I’ve spoken with a few beta sites and early adopters who might beg to differ.  For the sake of this post however, let’s concentrate on the new MEDITECH Advanced Database (MAD).  I want to highlight a few of the differences between the MAD and its predecessor (NPR) and since there is much to say on this topic, I’m going to break this into parts I and II.  In part I, we’ll look at the structure and design of the new database.

For starters, whereas the MAGIC/NPR database was termed “hierarchical,” the new Advanced Database is best described as “chronological” or “append-only,” which (in English) means that nothing is ever overwritten or deleted from it.  Most databases think in terms of add, insert or delete.  With MAD, you really just add.  There’s a slogan in there somewhere.    In order to illustrate how the MAD stores data, consider the following screenshot:

The highlighted section in the top half of the structure represents an initial entry in the MIS Directions Dictionary, where the facility of LAB has been created along with three corresponding applications, .DFT, LAB and PCS.  The lower un-highlighted section represents records that were later added due to an edit of the .DFT application and its schedule.  The advantage to this type of data storage is that it produces the mother-of-all audit trails.  A record of every addition, edit and deletion is stored, complete with the initials of the user responsible for each entry. The downside would seem to be the size of the database and how much larger it could potentially grow as more edits and deletions are made.  By the way… if you’re a old MAGIC programmer, you’ve probably realized you can still feel your way around a structure like this.

Keep in mind, when a program reads data from a chronological database, it has to essentially parse through the entire structure, so as more edits are made over time and the structure grows, you could pay a performance penalty.  At the same time, MEDITECH has implemented several tricks and techniques to make the reading of this type of file more efficient than it would appear to be at first glance.  In fact, MEDITECH has a special service program called ANP that has been highly optimized for reading from and writing to the MAD and it’s the ONLY program that is allowed to do so.  As a final word on performance, it’s safe to say your mileage may vary by application because some apps are more edit-intensive than others.

I hope this has provided you with a basic introduction to the new database structure and how it stores data as compared with its predecessor, NPR.  In part II, we’ll look at some other differences between the two database technologies.  As always, your comments and questions are welcome.  In addition, if you would like to see some other aspects of the Advanced Technology covered in future posts, please let us know.

When we arrived on the outskirts of Kabul, the highway became extremely congested with traffic.  A lot of the traffic was big trucks overfilled with firewood.  This is a common sight now and tons of firewood is needed daily to fuel the

hundreds of thousands homes in the capital city.  Firewood is cheaper than propane and the citizens don’t have the money to convert their heating system over to propane or natural gas.  Instead they rely on firewood to heat their residences.  Unfortunately, this is having a devastating effect on the tiny forests that survive here.  Despite government attempts to save the trees, on a daily basis, 500-1000 trees are being cut illegally.  Due to corruption, enforcement officials are being paid to look the other way.

Thanks to our ANA brothers, they dismounted their vehicles and forced traffic to the side so we could squeeze our armored MRAPs past the congestion.  We arrived back at camp without incident.

Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that Pakistan was achieved in the name of Islam and the religion can never be expelled from the country.

Addressing a gathering at Police Line Peshawar here, the COAS said that no one can separate Islam from Pakistan as the country was achieved in Islam’s name.

This comes after MQM, ANP and PPP said that they wanted to change the name of Pakistan from Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Peoples Republic of Pakistan.(Read Below)

Announcing Rs 20 million for the martyrs of NWFP Police, Gen. Kayani said that the all kinds of needed weapons and ammunitions would be provided to police to make its progress better.

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General was received by Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Muhammad Masood Aslam at Peshawar Airport when he arrived here on a day-long visit on Wednesday.  He will also visited Lady Reading Hospital to express solidarity with the bomb blast victims.
The Army Chief is schedule to meet Governor NWFP Owais Ahmad Ghani, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, tribal elders and students later in the day.

From Islamic to Peoples Republic of Pakistan?

ISLAMABAD – Awami National Party (ANP) during the deliberations of Parliamentary Reforms Committee had proposed to change the name of Islamic Republic of Pakistan as Peoples Republic of Pakistan, while Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) supported the move, the sources close to these political parties disclosed to TheNation.
The idea was, however, dropped due to strong opposition from the rest of the members of the committee, the sources added.
MQM Deputy Convener and Federal Minister Dr. Farooq Sattar confirmed it to the media in an informal chat on Wednesday and said that MQM along with PPP members of the committee supported the idea of renaming Islamic Republic of Pakistan as Peoples Republic of Pakistan.
On the other hand, ANP member of the committee Haji Adeel denied having proposed the name of Peoples Republic of Pakistan to replace Islamic Republic of Pakistan. However, some members of the committee on condition of anonymity confirmed it to TheNation that ANP had proposed the said change in the name of the country and MQM and PPP members had supported it.
During chat with media, Dr. Farooq Sattar also proposed making Gilgit-Baltistan as the fifth province of the country and its chief minister should also be included in the National Finance Commission (NFC). The government should take appropriate steps in this regard to remove the constitutional and international hurdles, he added. He said if the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms would finish with its deliberation on provincial autonomy by mid of December, they would be in a position to give the nation a new year’s gift in the shape of constitutional reforms package.

MQM backs ANP proposal to change Pakistan name

KARACHI: Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Parliamentary leader of the MQM Dr Farooq Sattar said Awami National Party (ANP) put up a proposal to change the name of Pakistan, which the MQM has supported.

He said the ANP gave this proposals to the Committee for Constitutional Reforms that Pakistan’s name be changed from Islamic Republic of Pakistan to People’s Republic of Pakistan.

Farooq Sattar also hoped that the Committee on Constitutional Reforms will give good news at the commencement of new year.

He said the proposal was tabled that Gilgit-Baltistan should be given a status of fifth province and it should have representation in NFC Award.

Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that Pakistan was achieved in the name of Islam and the religion can never be expelled from the country.

Addressing a gathering at Police Line Peshawar here, the COAS said that no one can separate Islam from Pakistan as the country was achieved in Islam’s name.

his comes after MQM, ANP and PPP said that they wanted to change the name of Pakistan from Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Peoples Republic of Pakistan.

He said that Pakistan Army will succeed in its bid to root out extremism from the country in cooperation with the nation and the media.
Announcing Rs 20 million for the martyrs of NWFP Police, Gen. Kayani said that the all kinds of needed weapons and ammunitions would be provided to police to make its progress better.

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General was received by Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Muhammad Masood Aslam at Peshawar Airport when he arrived here on a day-long visit on Wednesday.  He will also visited Lady Reading Hospital to express solidarity with the bomb blast victims.
The Army Chief is schedule to meet Governor NWFP Owais Ahmad Ghani, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, tribal elders and students later in the day.

Associação de Proprietários fala em «autêntica praga» e quer «ajudar» potenciais alugadores a não serem enganados.

A Associação Nacional de Proprietários (ANP) quer divulgar uma lista de inquilinos caloteiros. Em comunicado, a ANP avança que vai solicitar o parecer da Comissão de Protecção de Dados para travar a «autêntica praga de rendas de casa não pagas que se abateu sobre os senhorios».

Em documento enviado à Agência Financeira, a associação de Proprietários quer compilar estes dados, à semelhança do que existe em relação aos operadores de telemóveis, bancos – com referência aos cheques sem provisão e prestações de crédito não liquidadas -, às seguradoras, e ao Estado com a publicação na Internet, do nome dos contribuintes faltosos.

Nesta lista «negra», os inquilinos em falta deverão permanecer 5 anos ou até pagarem as rendas em falta. O objectivo da iniciativa passa por «ajudar os potenciais alugadores a não serem abusados na sua boa fé, já que há inquilinos que andam sistematicamente a enganar os senhorios: pagam a caução e o primeiro mês e nunca mais pagam nada. São profissionais de usufruir de tecto a título gratuito!»

Para a associação, o senhorio começa por acreditar na desculpa de dificuldades conjunturais do arrendatário, mas «passados os três meses que a lei impõe antes de ser poder interpor a competente acção de despejo já não restam dúvidas de se estar em presença de um erro de casting: o ocupante da casa é um verdadeira artista que vai ter casa à borla durante os dois anos que, no mínimo, vai demorar o despejo, havendo casos de 3 e mesmo 4 anos de espera, restando dizer que o senhoria vai continuar a pagar I.M.I., taxa de saneamento, seguros e outros encargos além, claro está, das despesas com advogados e tribunais».

Mas os problemas dos proprietários não terminam aqui: «As casas despejadas são normalmente deixadas em estado calamitoso e a necessitar de reparações dispendiosas, chegando os ocupantes a levar torneiras, fios eléctricos e tudo o que for metálico, que é vendido no ferro-velho, além de deteriorarem a loiça sanitária e o equipamento da cozinha».

É uma «autêntica praga», garantem os proprietários, que insistem na autorização para publicação, numa primeira fase com acesso restrito aos associados, da lista dos inquilinos caloteiros que sistematicamente vão arrendando casas e só pagam o primeiro mês».

Rendas em falta são maioritariamente superiores a 400 euros

Segundo a ANP, os dados não mentem: as rendas faltosas são maioritariamente acima de 400 euros mensais (cerca de 86%), havendo poucos casos de incumprimento nas rendas abaixo de 100 euros. Dos contratos com rendas superiores a 500 € feitos nos últimos três anos 29% entraram em incumprimento (cerca de 20.000), metade por situação de desemprego e outra metade por profissionais de viver à borla na casa dos outros.

Na lista dos incumpridores vai constar o local, as datas em que e a quem deixaram de pagar e o total das dívidas, que no seu conjunto representam mais de 36 milhões de euros anuais que deixam de ser cobrados.

Por considerar existir uma verdadeira praga de rendas não pagas e incobráveis, a Associação Nacional de Proprietários vai pedir à Comissão Nacional de Protecção de Dados autorização para compilar uma lista de inquilinos incumpridores. Segundo a associação, por ano ficam por cobrar 36 milhões de euros em rendas, com clara preponderância de incumprimentos nos contratos superiores a 400 euros mensais.

A ANP recorda que esta lista de incumpridores é em tudo semelhante às que já existem e versam sobre dívidas aos operadores de telemóveis, aos bancos [com referência aos cheques sem provisão e prestações de créditos não liquidadas], às seguradoras [em relação às apólices não pagas], e ao Estado com a publicação na Internet, no sítio da Direcção-Geral dos Impostos, do nome dos contribuintes faltosos. A ANP, numa primeira fase, pede para que a divulgação “dos inquilinos ‘caloteiros’ que sistematicamente vão arrendando casas e só pagam o primeiro mês” seja feita com acesso restrito aos associados.

ANP and MQM suggested to change the official name of the country from Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Peoples Republic of Pakistan and this news reminded me of what I read once in ‘Shahab Nama’ by Qudrat-ullah-Shahab. This suggestion was on the desk of then President Ayub Khan, but was later given up. That was the time when Pakistanis were much less-religious than what are they now (apparently) but still it was not easy for government to remove ‘Islamic’ from the country’s name. The few arguments given in the favor of Islamic Republic of Pakistan are:

1. Pakistan was created on the name of Islam.
2. The only thing that differ us from other people in sub-continent is our religion Islam and this difference led to the creation of a separate homeland for Muslims.
3. If Afghanis, Turks, Iranians, Egyptians, Iraqis leave Islam, they will be still remain the same, but if we Pakistanis leave Islam, what will we be? So if we want the survival of Pakistan, we must keep Islamic Republic with its name.

Though, we don’t see the real Islam in the lives of Pakistanis, but still I had always realized that we Pakistanis are more inclined towards the religion than others and may be that’s why we are more hypocrites. We always thought our selves the custodians of Islam. Islamic Brotherhood is dominant in the minds of Pakistanis, and as a matter of fact, that’s why we always welcomed Arabs, Uzbiks and other nationals to Pakistan for Jihad in the name of religion.

Whether we like it or not but Pakistan is nothing without Islam, he wrote and I fully agree, Pakistan has no escape from Islam.
