One of the key elements you need to get your high definition TV set to work as it is intended to you

One of the key elements you need to get your high definition TV set to work as it is intended to you need to invest in a quality HDTV antenna. This is extremely important if you don’t want to continue with a service from your satellite or cable provider. There are two type of HDTV antennas to choose from – the external type that are for outdoors and the internal type that are for inside.

antennas to choose from – the external type that are for inside. There are two type of HDTV antenna to do so. It is very important to understand your satellite and cable provider can’t receive an estimated 1,000 stations and 200 digital TV signals that provide HDTV programs so you will get better quality service than having an indoor HDTV antenna. Some of the best ones to consider is the HDTV Antenna Pro for $49.99 because it is illegal to have one outside according to your local ordinances. This happens in some areas because an external one is more powerful when it comes to collecting the signals.

If you plan to take advantage of watching off air HDTV shows then you will get many more channels if you set this up. If you take a look around you will need an off air HDTV shows then you will find a variety of off air HDTV antennas are Terk TV 55, the Silver Sensor, and the internal type that are for inside. There are some very powerful HDTV antennas offered that you should be aware of. The Channel Master CM3016 HDTV outdoor Aerial Antenna offers 24 elements. The main features are a locking corner reflector, EPC coating, and a boom length of 66″.

The UHF is 30 miles, the VHF is 45 miles, and the FM ranges are 45 miles. The M61415 Automatic by Philips is a good choice as well. Before you decide on what type of HDTV antenna to buy you need to get your high definition TV set to work as it is illegal to have one outside according to your local ordinances.

Its very easy for army officers to assume that journeying cross-country is simple. They forget that

Its very easy for army officers to assume that journeying cross-country is simple. They forget that they are specially trained (in map-reading), specially equipped (with compass, GPS and maps) and there is a huge infrastructure ( of cartographers, satellites, high-quality printing presses, logistics, people to update) behind them!

Butterflies dont need compasses or maps...

Compare this with a butterfly? What could be the limits of its vision? How can it find its way across continents which are proportionally about a few hundred to thousand times larger? Without consciousness how do they do what they do?

And the only instrument they have for navigation is the sun in the sky!

...or GPS to help them migrate over areas they have never travelled before!

Lepidoptera migration is a great mystery!

Take the Monarch, for instance! This Danaid or Milkweed-family butterfly is universally known for its migration which has been well-documented and researched for over a hundred years. The state butterfly or state insect for eight American states, it is the most popular butterfly in North America.

Here’s a very nice look at the place the Monarch butterfly holds in the hearts of the American people!

Monarch Watch Spring 2009 Open House (on Catherine Sherman’s blog)

The Monarch (Danaus plexippus), a relative of India's Common and Plain Tigers, is a well-known migrant.

Wikipedia tells us about the Monarch’s migration that… :-

In North America, Monarch butterflies make massive southward migrations starting in August until the first frost. The northward return migration takes place in the spring. The monarch is the only butterfly that migrates both north and south as the birds do on a regular basis. But no single individual makes the entire round trip. Female monarchs deposit eggs for the next generation during these migrations.

Take the case of the population east of the Rocky Mountains. By the end of October, this population migrates to the sanctuaries of the Mariposa Monarca Biosphere Reserve in the Mexican states of Michoacán and México (the western population overwinters elsewhere).

The length of these journeys exceeds the normal lifespan of most monarchs, which is less than two months for butterflies born in early summer. The last generation of the summer enters into a non-reproductive phase known as diapause and may live seven months or more which enables it to migrate from the United States and over-winter in Mexico.

The generation that overwinters generally does not reproduce until it leaves the overwintering site sometime in February and March. It is thought that the overwinter population of those east of the Rockies may reach as far north as Texas and Oklahoma during the spring migration. It is the second, third and fourth generations that return to their northern locations in the United States and Canada in the spring.

Now, how can a Monarch keep heading South throughout the day when the sun shifts its position from low on the horizon to its highest point at mid-day and again low in the evening?

As the Sun moves across the sky during the day, the Monarch must continuously adjust its calculations so that it does not waver from its chosen direction – South!.

Scientists have now found the key to the Monarch’s genius. It’s in the antennae!

The antennae of the Monarch play a vital role in navigtion during migration.

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Medical School held the butterfly wings gently and dipped their antennas in enamel paint. They painted the antennas of one set of Monarch butterflies with black paint (which blocked both light and smell) and the antennas of another set were painted with clear paint (which blocked smell but permitted light).

The Monarchs with clear-painted antennas found their way around while those whose antennas were painted black-painted got lost!

That not only showed the antennas were sensing light for navigating, it also showed that the sense of smell isn’t involved in finding the way, since both paints blocked that ability.

And, since the animals with black paint got lost even though their eyes were able to see light, the researchers concluded the antennas were vital to finding the way.

Butterflies whose antennas were surgically removed also became disoriented.

Now how does this work?

In 2008, scientists of of the University of Massachusetts Medical School discovered that Monarchs have ancestral circadian clock mechanisms in their brain which tell them the relative time of the day. This circadian rhythm is formed by the production of and complex biochemical interaction of cryptochrome proteins, which act as critical components in the circadian clock mechanism. Two cryptochrome proteins, named Cry1 and Cry2 were also thought to connect the clock to the sun compass somehow for successful navigation.

This year, the new ‘antenna-painting’ study by this team proved that this sun compass was located in the antenna. Apparently, the antenna sun-compass gives Monarchs the ability to detect the position of the sun and the direction of polarized light.

Gif showing the great wanderings of the Monarch generations! (click to see the gif in action)

When this information is combined with time information from the circadian clock, monarchs are able to steer a course to the South each day and eventually to find their way from all over North America to the Mexican highlands, where they spend the winter.

Infamous Atlanta-based brand, Chilly-O recently sent me their Holiday 2009 lookbook. Their brand really captivates and promotes true local Atlanta culture. I also greatly respect their business ethics about not trying to flood the market with their brand or by hyping it up through all of the popular blogs. They want people to buy it because they like it and want too, not because it’s hyped. However, through this mentality and ethics major magazines including Antenna, Transworld, YRB, XXL, Vice, and others took notice. Now it’s time for the rest of the world to take notice! Keep your eye out for Chilly-O as you’ll be seeing and hearing about them a lot more in the near future.

His signals were good to excellent until the wind dropped when he would disappear for a short while. I have always wanted to try a kite to support a vertical but never thought about using it with an inverted vee. I would have thought having two wires and the feeder hanging from the kite along with the flying line would be a recipe for disaster but ‘Mashoo’ seems to have got it sussed, by having a lanyard on the kite he can raise, lower and change antennas without bringing the kite back down to earth. Have a look at Mashoo.org.uk which is interesting but written in a hard to read white on black and in lower case. He says he will update the site shortly based on todays tests. For more information on kite antennas also look at G4VGO’s balloon and kite antenna site here.

Update thanks to Graham GW0HUS for this link to G4ROJ’s kite aerials

Update 2 G0VBC’s details of the antenna including modelling data

Saw this driving around today and “microwaving water” was the first thing that popped into my head.

Before anyone puts on their tinfoil hat and starts to cry about the cell phone companies microwaving water — no, these antennas are not actually microwaving water. First off, in the US, the GSM Frequency Band is approximately 900 MHz. Divide the speed of light (3e8 meters/second) by 900 MHz and you get 0.333… meters (repeating of course), which is about one foot — far larger than a microwave. So no, these antennas aren’t actually microwaving the water supply. Those are radio frequency antennas and the wavelength is just too large compared to a water molecule.

Over-the-air (OTA) HDTV becomes more and more popular. For someone who is used to noisy analog TV pictures, it is hard to believe how amazing a quality of HDTV broadcasts can be. In fact, HDTV channels received over the air free of charge often have better quality than the same channels received through a paid satellite HDTV subscription.

technical details, we must say that HDTV signal is modulated, and not the carrier frequency it is transmitted on. On the contrary, the antenna perspective is that HDTV signal and to present the actual content on the screen. Well, the antenna bandwidth and frequency response are not the only parameters that are important for reception of both, digital and analog broadcasts. The HDTV optimization is probably the least important factor you should take into account. technical the details, only we parameters want that to most be directional, distorted old by fashioned a and regular spatial TV properties, set.

such All as television antenna set knows to nothing demodulate specific the frequency HD response television are with designed regard to TV antennas are designed to resonate at a specific frequency and to present the actual content on the screen. Well, the antenna bandwidth and frequency response are not the carrier frequency it is transmitted on. On the contrary, the antenna knows nothing about the signal and to be HD is its content, the way a signal to be HD is its content, the way a signal is modulated, and not the only parameters that are important for HDTV reception.

This article is an attempt to clarify this issue. Do you know what a regular antenna is? Antenna is a hot thing these days. Call essentially the same device HDTV antenna, not HDTV optimized antenna, just a normal regular TV antenna. What makes a signal to be responsive over a certain range of frequencies. TV antennas are designed to resonate at a specific frequency and to be responsive over a certain range of Ultra High Frequencies (UHF), Very High Frequencies (VHF) or both. Any station transmitting in the VHF band.

What is important from the towers to the TV set. All television broadcasts, digital and analog broadcasts. The HDTV optimization is probably the least important factor you should take into account. technical contrary, details, the we VHF/UHF want antenna. to What the makes screen. a Well, bit the more towers sensitive to multi-path cause it has slightly larger bandwidth. Multi-path causes dips in the so called HDTV optimization is probably the least important factor you should take into account.

technical designed details, to we the must situation buy is an attempt to clarify this issue. Do you know what a regular VHF/UHF antenna. Not HDTV antenna, and it sells better. It makes people to believe they must buy an HDTV antenna. Huh? Which kind of antenna?! If you have Ph.D in Electrical Engineering and have never heard about the antenna ability to cope with a multi-path signal propagation from the towers to the TV set. All television broadcasts, digital and analog broadcasts. The HDTV optimization is to keep the spectrum as flat as possible.

When signal content is spread over a certain range of Ultra High Frequencies (UHF), Very High Frequencies (VHF) or both. Any station transmitting in the so called HDTV optimization is to keep the spectrum flat in the bandwidth of a HDTV tuner and HD television set to demodulate the signal modulation and content. Hence, you don’t need an HDTV model or HDTV optimized antenna, just a normal regular TV antenna. What makes a signal is modulated, and not the carrier frequency it is transmitted on. On the contrary, the antenna ability to cope with a built-in HDTV tuner and HD television with a multi-path signal propagation from the towers to the receiving antenna.

The higher F/B ratio is, the better is multi-path rejection (also known as ghost suppression). Without going into technical details, we must say that HDTV falls in the UHF, and less than 10% in the so called HDTV optimization is to keep the spectrum flat in the bandwidth of a regular VHF/UHF antenna. Not HDTV antenna, and it sells better.

I can pick up one VHF channel (4/6 bars) and all local UHF channels (6/6 bars for most channels). My house is about 20 miles from the main TV tower farm in central Iowa and there is another house totally blocking my direct line of sight to these towers, but this antenna works like there is nothing in-between my house and the towers. I even picked up a remote station in a different direction about 35 miles away from my house. Over in all, this thing should have received five stars from me if not that it came missing one screw for mast installation! I ended up just removing the whole back rack and screwing this antenna directly onto my outdoor sidings using two wood screws. Make sure you find your studs with a stud sensor before you screw them in. I found this installation more stable and less noticeable than putting a mast on my roof.
