Twenemos erster Post zeigte Euch den Trailer von The Wolfman und wie ich finde macht der schon viel Lust auf den Film. Bei so einem Cast (Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving), kann man sich ja nur auf den Film freuen. Jetzt ist ein Poster veröffentlicht worden was wirklich gelungen ist und gut die düstere Stimmung des Films transportiert.

Starttermin ist im Februar sowohl in Deutschland als auch in Amerika.

No se sabe muy bien qué esperar de esta cinta que, por un lado, está manteniendo una carrera publicitaria de lo más acertada pero que, por el otro y sin embargo, son notorios sus conocidos y diversos problemas de producción que han asaltado su realización, y que la han llevado a diversos retrasos en su estreno y a la reciente contratación de dos nuevos editores que revisen su montaje.

El 12 de Febrero tanto los norteamericanos como los españoles saldremos de dudas sobre las posibilidades de esta nueva versión del relato clásico del hombre lobo dirigida por Joe Johnston (‘Parque Jurásico III’ ) y protagonizada por Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt y Hugo Weaving.

In the article Objecting to Objectification: Re-Viewing the Feminine in The Silence of the Lambs (first printed in Journal of Popular Culture, 37.1, August 2003, pp. 1-12), Greg Garrett outlines ‘a theme that runs throughout the film’; the objectification of women. He argues that ‘by accenting Starling’s harassment, by removing male helpers present in the novel, and by stressing Starling’s resistance to the attempts of men to objectify her, the film creates… [a statement] about the various forms of female victimisation in our society.’

In his introduction Garrett refers to what he believes are the two core moments ‘consistent with [this] theme which runs throughout the film.’ The first is a scene where ‘Starling (Jodie Foster) holds up a punching target and braces herself as brawny male trainees light into her. She is no longer a woman; to her fellow trainees, she is only a punching bag.’ He believes that the fact she is surrounded by men and that they are shown to be pummeling her in this way, makes her seem less human, which makes way for the other times throughout the film in which men in her place of work objectify her because she is a woman.

This ‘verbal’ example clearly ‘reinforce[s] the idea that women must be seen as people rather than objects.’ This is what Garrett sees as something of a ‘strong… statement’.

Many examples Garrett makes in reference to this concept come in his references to things people say during dialogue with Starling. He recalls that ‘Starling is sexually harassed by Dr. Frederick Chilton’ when he is insultingly asks her for a personal ‘follow up’. Later he points out that ‘two young deputies make objectifying remarks about her.’ So through these examples Garrett shows the reader that in the scripted dialogue, the objectification of women is obvious in her male colleagues attitude and conversation with her.

Garrett argues that the ‘chief objectifier of women in the film’ is Buffalo Bill.  The main manifestation of Buffalo Bill’s objectification comes in the way he treats his victims; killing them so that he can ‘construct a costume of their skins.’  Garrett recalls Lector’s murdering method as similar in it’s objectification; (though it is not unique to women) he ‘turns people into gourmet meals’. However there is a difference with his attitude towards Starling when he ‘begins to regard her as a person, and thus is no longer capable of objectifying her,’ in the same way that Buffalo Bill was encouraged to.

Garrett describes his second reference from his description of the following scene:

…in response to a televised appeal broadcast to killer “Buffalo Bill” (Ted Levine) to release his most recent hostage alive, Starling lauds the strategy of repeating the victim’s name, Catherine, over and over. She knows that if Bill “sees Catherine as a person and not just an object” it will be harder to destroy her.

By analysing this theme in The Silence of the Lambs, we see that Garrett’s main aim is to highlight the moral importance of treating people as they should be; as humans, not as objects.

Criatura legendaria, mito del género de terror y pavoroso (y peludo) compañero nocturno, el hombre lobo tiene previsto volver al cine con The Wolfman, filme que visto lo visto promete, aunque siempre desde el recelo que suscitan estas producciones. Estas suspicacias, provocadas por numerosos antecedentes plagados de decepciones, normalmente no quedan aclaradas hasta que uno se planta ante la pantalla y ya es demasiado tarde para escapar. Hasta ahora los responsables de The Wolfman se están moviendo sabiamente entre el tirón de su criatura icónica, la luz de gas decimonónica y el modernismo técnico explotando por supuesto también las raíces legendarias de su bicho y, por qué no, su arraigo en los miedos de la muchedumbre. The Wolfman es leyenda, como dice este cartel, casi tanto como el señor Anthony Hopkins, Benicio del Toro, Hugo Weaving y esa dama escarlata que es Emily Blunt. Juntos se proponen recordarnos un sabio consejo de antaño. Evitad la soledad en una noche de luna llena.

Quizá opacada un poco por el resto de las producciones que están prontas a lanzarse, pero El Hombre Lobo sigue generando una expectación bastante fuerte, y es un hecho que, cuando la fecha esté más cercana, estará atrayendo muchs más reflectores. Y en lo que eso ocurre, les presentamos una serie de entrevistas con los actores y otros miembros del equipo, que nos dan una semblanza sobre lo que podemos esperar de la misma. En especial, llama la atención las palabras de Anthony Hopkins: La descripción que hace del film es más que suficiente como para convencer aún al más indeciso.

Kenneth Branagh’s adaption of Thor has a great cast already in place. Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson to name but a few.

MTV Splash Page recently spoke with Natalie Portman, who was promoting her new film Brothers, and she revealed that Kat Dennings (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) has a role in Thor as well.

“Well I’m really excited,” Portman told MTV News. “Kat Dennings is going to be in it with me and she’s a good friend and an amazing actress, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Variety has confirmed Dennings’ role in the film and is reporting that she will play Darcy, who works with Natalie Portman’s character, Jane Foster.

Thor is out on 20 May 2011.

“Regreso a Barrow” también podría adaptarse,ademas hoy tendremos un pequeño Behind the Scene con ”The Wolfman”

Una Nueva cita con el fascinante Mundo del Terror,hoy hemos escogido tres buenas informaciones para compartir con ustedes,ya saben que 30 Días de Oscuridad: Días Oscuros, la secuela del exitoso título vampírico de David Slade, ya está en marcha y que el próximo año se pondrá a la venta en el mercado del DVD.

Steve Niles, el creador del cómic en que se basan las películas, ha confirmado a Bloody Disgusting que en caso de que esta nueva entrega tenga éxito (cosa bastante probable), no sería de extrañar que la tercera entrega del cómic, Regreso a Barrow, también se convirtiese en película.

El cómic cuenta como uno de los familiares de uno de los fallecidos en el ataque a Barrow por los vampiros ha decidido volver al lugar y ser el nuevo sheriff. Comenzará a investigar lo sucedido y pronto, los chupasangres volverán al lugar.

Y Continuando con la actualidad del Cine De Terror y Suspenso les  mostramos el trailer oficial de ”Soldado Universal 3”, la película que vuelve a reunir a Jean-Claude Van Damme y Dolph Lungred y que se lanzará directamente a DVD en 2010.

”Soldado Universal 3:Regeneration” cuenta cómo robando tecnología de alto-secreto militar, un grupo de terroristas han creado la nueva generación de un soldado universal al que han mandado al reactor nuclear que explotó en Chernobyl para tratar de crear una nube radioactiva letal.

El único que parece poder detenerle es Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme),un soldado universal que ha sido reanimado para tratar de detener la amenaza.

Y Finalizando este encunetro con la Cineteca,les presentamos a continuación   un vídeo-featurette de El Hombre Lobo en el que tras un repaso a otros monstruos clásicos de la universal, podéis ver algunas escenas y entrevistas con algunos de los actores protagonistas.

Inspirada en la clásica película de Universal que dio pie a un legado de terror, ”THE WOLFMAN” explora los orígenes del mito del hombre maldito. El oscarizado Benicio Del Toro encarna a Lawrence Talbot, un noble torturado que vuelve a las tierras de la familia después de la desaparición de su hermano. Hace las paces con su padre (el también oscarizado Anthony Hopkins) y sale en busca de su hermano… para acabar descubriendo que también a él le espera un horrible destino.

La infancia de Lawrence Talbot se acabó bruscamente la noche que murió su madre. Se fue del adormilado pueblecito de Blackmoor y tardó décadas en recuperarse e intentar olvidar. Cuando Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt), la prometida de su hermano, le encuentra y le ruega que la ayude a buscar a su amor, Lawrence Talbot regresa a casa. Entonces se entera de que algo brutal, salvaje, con una sed insaciable de sangre ha matado a muchos campesinos, por lo que un suspicaz inspector de Scotland Yard (Hugo Weaving) ha venido a investigar.

Empieza a encajar las piezas del sangriento rompecabezas y se entera de que existe una antigua maldición que convierte a las víctimas en hombres lobo las noches de luna llena. Para acabar con la carnicería y proteger a la mujer de la que se ha enamorado, Lawrence Talbot debe destruir a la temible criatura que se esconde en los bosques cercanos a Blackmoor. Este hombre sencillo con un pasado doloroso sale en busca de la bestia y descubre que él también tiene un lado primitivo que ni siquiera podía imaginar.

However, I have to disagree with Leo (our dear, dear friend), because Gaddafi is definitely a seven letter word for one thing: crazy, plus he really likes silly hats.

What brought this on, you might ask? Thanks for asking. It was the Gawker that reminded me of our friend Muammar’s lunacy, namely, that he named his son Hannibal. That’s right, Hannibal. As in, the Carthaginian general who tried to overthrow the Roman empire, or, if you’re so inclined, a serial killer who likes DBIH favorite Nell too much to eat her.

Would you let your child share a name with this guy? Idk. After the jump, more ways that Muammar Gaddafi is almost as cool as Silvio. Then again, the Gawker is telling me that Hannibal is a probable rapist, so really, nbd what his name is.

1. This one time, he tried to pitch a tent in Central Park. If I tried to do this, I’d be arrested, and not in that really cool I’m just trying to get on Page Six way, but in the you’re probably a child rapist way. Not good.

Why did he think he could get away with this? Well, it worked in Rome, thanks to our dear friend Silvio, who, it turns out, lets crazy African dictators do whatever the fuck they want in his non-country’s capital.

2. His bodyguards are called “Amazons.” Yes, they still have both boobs (thank god), but they are heavily armed and pretty freaking hot if you ask me (a non-lesbian). The Italians (obviously) fell in love with the idea of these women, though I would assume that in practice Italian men would not like women to have guns when they go to grope them on the train.

3. Once the Arabs realized he was a lunatic (the kind of lunatic that names his child Hannibal), he decided to try to fuck with my people, the Africans. Somehow, he got a bunch of traditional chiefs to make him King of Kings. I can only imagine it was one of those situations like when Andrew Jackson’s troops would make the Native Americans sign papers they couldn’t read handing over all of their land forever.

4. According to Wikipedia, he likes to spell his name Muammar Al Gathafi, which is really just retarded if you ask me.

So yes, Silvio is still my love of loves (King of Kings, if you will), but Muammar has a special place in my heart. He likes tents, Roman history, and hats, so I’m really not complaining. He can teach me and my scantily-clad friends about the Koran any time if you ask me.

A cada vídeo divulgado fico mais animado com esse filme, excelente elenco, efeitos especiais que prometem e claro uma clássica e boa história. Díficilmente essa nova versão vai conseguir superar o original, mas promete no minímo honra-la, algo que os remakes atuais não estão conseguindo.

Na história ambientada na Inglaterra vitoriana, Benicio Del Toro é Larry Talbot que retorna ao castelo do seu pai (Anthony Hopkins), onde conhece Gwen (Emily Blunt). Mas, após ser mordido por um lobisomem passa a viver a terrível maldição e passa a  ser investigado pelo detetive Aberline (Hugo Weaving).

…und ich bin nur bedingt zufrieden.

Chris Hemsworth kann ich mir schon mal schwer als Thor vorstellen. Er ist mir einfach viel zu jung und wirkt auch nicht so ernst wie Thor. Seh ich ähnlich kritisch wie den Typen der Gambit gespielt hat (und Gambit hat mir in Wolverine nicht gefallen) Aber immerhin wird er bei dem weiblichen Mainstream-Publikum punkten…

Tom Hiddleston als Loki find ich hingegen genial. Ich glaub der hat zwar bis jetzt nur TV-Rollen gehabt (zumindest hab ich ihn noch nie in einem Film gesehen) aber der hat schon dieses knöcherne und verschlagene Aussehen das ein Loki braucht.

Ja, ich glaube dass wir uns hier alle einig sein werden, dass Anthony Hopkins Verpflichtung als Odin den Film natürlich ungeheuer aufwertet und der Knüller schlechthin ist.

Natalie Portman als Jane Foster geht ebenfalls in Ordnung.

“Oh mein Gott! Ein Schwarzer spielt einen Weißen” Neee, Idris Elba als Heimdall ist fabelhaft gewählt. Seht euch mal seinen Blick an…

Na versoffen sieht Ray Stevenson schon aus, aber wird der Volstagg jetzt wirklich ausgestopft und 2/3 seines Gesichtes mit nem Bart verdeckt? Kann mir das gar nicht vorstellen.

Tadanobu Asano als Hogun. Gibts da was zu meckern? Glaub nicht…

Bei Stuart Townsend als Fandral habe ich halt wieder den Einwand dass er zu jung ist. Aber hier kann man wenigstens mit nem Bart noch was kaschieren…

NaJa, auch wenn mir Thor und seine Kumpels viel zu jung gecastet wurden, muss man sagen, dass es viel schlimmer hätte werden können.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)
★★★ / ★★★★

Gary Oldman stars as Count Dracula, a man who found his love named Elisabeta (Winona Ryder) died after he arrived from the war. The priests did not want to give Elisabeta a proper burial because she committed suicide. This angered Dracula, denounced God and was cursed to live for eternity lusting for blood. Hundreds of years later, Jonathan Harker (Keanu Reeves) was assigned to help Dracula to buy some property in London unknowing of the vampire’s true intentions. Eventually, Dracula set his sights on Harker’s wife (also played by Ryder) because she looked exactly like his former lover and Dr. Van Helsing (Anthony Hopkins) stepped in to help. I’m not entirely convinced on whether to recommend this picture. While I did find the asthetics magnificent and the execution of the story to be just fine, some crucial elements did not meet my expectations. I thought it sacrificed a lot of the terror for the sake of romance. When I watch a movie about Dracula, I expect to be suspended in suspense instead of watching him yearn over a lover. I thought the best scenes in the film were in the first half. There was something extremely creepy about the whole vibe of the castle when Jonathan visited Dracula in Transylvania. Every shadow and dark corner of the room felt menacing as if something seriously wrong was about to happen. The soundtrack was used sparingly so that the audiences could hear every creak and footstep made in the castle. The second half of the movie felt exactly the opposite. There were overt sexual references, consistent loud noises and the pacing became static. While it still remained elegant, I began to feel more apathetic toward each character when I should have been rooting for them because lives were at stake. Regardless of its flaws, I was still curious on what was going to happen next because Francis Ford Coppola, the director, had interesting techniques when it came to presenting his audiences gothic imagery. Coppola spent too much of his time with the images and asthetics of the picture that he somewhat neglected his characters and where the story was going. I’m not sure how closely this followed Bram Stoker’s original 1897 novel because I haven’t read it. But I must say that it definitely took me back to that time period. So in terms of escapism, I think this movie did a good job. However, when I try to really analyze it piece by piece, I’m not that impressed with it. It’s the strangest feeling.

Mina vänner uppmärksammade mig tidigare i veckan på vad jag måste medge är en ganska osund livsföring. Jag skriver om film som huvudsaklig sysselsättning. När jag inte gör det hetsar jag runt på stan för att se så mycket filmfestivalsfilmer som möjligt. När jag ska ta ledigt och pusta ut lite grann från jobbet, vad gör jag då? Jo, går på filmkväll hemma hos kompisar. Hmm. Intervention, anyone?

Nåja. Jag fick äntligen se Manhunter (fick och fick, vem har någonsin stoppat mig egentligen?), och det var värt varje eventuell filmöverdos i världen! Briljant, i allt från casting till musik. Brian Cox krossar Anthony Hopkins Hannibal Lecktor (ja, han heter så här)-tolkning med lilltån.
