Em meados de maio de 2008, o vocalista Anthony Kiedis, em entrevista a revista Rolling Stone, afirmou que a banda entraria de férias. Era o prenúncio do fim do grupo. Ao menos para os fãs.

Após, porém, o baterista Chad Smith falar que o Red Hot gravaria um novo cd, a banda anunciou que fará um show após um hiato de dois anos. Eles irão se apresentar no MusiCares 2010 (evento em homenagem a Neil Young), no dia 29 de janeiro.

Fãs dos pimentas… viajem para os Estados Unidos e garantam seus ingressos. Certeza de uma grande reestreia.

a lot of people wish that they read more. i am one of them.

so i’m making my own valiant effort to get a book under my belt every month.

last month was the new donald miller.
and what an amateur thrill to get to the afterword and be that excited that i finished it. i have an enormous habit of reading a quarter of a book and then losing interest. i have stacks of “i only read to chapter 3″ books.

octobers was another book that almost fell victim to the same habit. i had picked up “scar tissue” by anthony kiedis back in cape town sometime in june. i started reading it, got distracted, and it felt no love for a couple months.
then i strictly implemented this goal and since i didn’t want it to be yet another book i sort of read, i picked it up again.

the lead singer of the red hot chili peppers has lived an insane life. an insane life.
it took 465 pages for his life to unravel so i can’t exactly sum it up well, but he has done and felt and been everything under the sun.
he has gone full tilt since infancy and its this awesome, awesome story. and it wasn’t even the typical he-did-a-lot-of-drugs-and-bed-a-lot-of-women story (even though he did those things in excess). he did it with this huge, real-life pumping and beating heart, just like everyone else has, and the emotion and awareness behind his story speak higher than just the typical rock-and-roll lifestyle.

he had a wild father who was lord of the sunset strip. he started smoking dope at 11, was quietly schooled by george clinton and mentored by sonny bono. he went out dancing in a frock dress with no underwear and black combat boots and faxed love poems to his girl, sinéad o’connor. he spent new years with kurt cobain and helped put a then unknown pearl jam on the map by giving them an opening gig. 

here are some of my highlighted lines:

“go get out of yourself and do something for someone else, voila, you don’t feel like shit anymore.”

“i’ve wanted to feel pleasure to the point of insanity. they call it getting high, because it’s wanting to know that higher level, that godlike level. you want to touch the heavens, you want to feel glory and euphoria, but the trick is that it takes work. you can’t buy it, you can’t get it on a street corner, you can’t steal it or inject it or shove it up your ass, you have to earn it.”

i love that he articulated this, because it is so, so true: “a lot of times people will judge you on their perceived idea of how you’re acting. if you’re in a room and you’re feeling shy and you don’t want a certain amount of attention, you’re not going out of your way to make friends with everybody. then someone’s going to walk away going, “that arrogant motherf*cker, he didn’t even try to talk to me.” you’re trying to lay low and not make a big deal about yourself, but they’re seeing you as this guy who’s all that and a bag of f*cking chips.”

Hoy cumple 47 años el cantante más carismático del rock. Nació en 1962 en el pueblo de Grand Rapids,  Michigan. Sus padres se divorciaron cuando el tenía 4 años.

Hasta los 11 años vivió con su madre, y luego se mudó con su padre a la ciudad de Los Angeles, California. Cursó la  secundaria en el Fairfax High School, donde conoció a Michael Balzary, Hillel Slovak y Jack Irons. Fue junto con ellos con quienes en 1983 crearon a los Red Hot Chili Peppers. Su 1º CD lo grabaron en abril de 1984.

Fue  votado el  vegetariano más sexy del mundo en el 2008, ya que sigue una dieta vegetariana desde 1980 y actuamente, está comenzando una vegana. Tiene un hijo llamado Everly, nacido el 2 de octubre de 2007.

No sé si queda  algo más que decir, sólo que lo adoro con toda mi alma y muchas cosas que hice, hago y pienso hacer, se las debo a él y a los Peppers.

Uma das músicas mais lindas que já escreveram é Trouble. Trouble de Cat Stevens, não do Coldplay.

A primeira vez que ouvi foi o cover que o Red Hot Chili Peppers fez durante um dos concertos beneficentes do Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a escola de música para crianças pobres fundada pelo Flea há alguns anos.

A letra é linda e cada cover fica melhor que a original.

Eddie Vedder também fez uma versão.

Não existe vídeos do cover do RHCP, (quando fizeram a apresentação, celular só fazia ligação e se fazia download de música pelo Napster). No áudio, antes do John começar a tocar, o Anthony diz “This next song is very tricky, try to focus on the guitar for this one. So, don’t look at me”.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about new beginnings.

Not only where it pertains to starting a new job and moving on from this pit of a funk I have been in for the past 10 months, but also when it comes to matters of redemption for our screw-ups.  It seems like every other day we turn on the news and learn about another public personality being caught in some kind of personal crisis.

This week it’s David Letterman.  I love me some Dave.  His dry sense of humor has always been right down my alley, and the monologue he gave his first night back on the air after 9/11 will no doubt go down as one of broadcasting’s finest moments.  I was bummed this went down, but I’ve gotta say honestly not really because of Letterman’s abuse of power and sexual indiscretions in the work place, but more of how the audience responded to his mea culpa.  I was appalled that they would laugh and applaud throughout his entire speech, even after it became clear he was not doing a comedy bit.  Extortion and abuse of power isn’t a laughing matter, and the audience behaved as if they were a bunch of robots.  It was bizarre and disrespectful.

Meanwhile, I cannot throw stones at Dave.  There is none righteous.  No, not one.  (Romans 3:10, for those following along at home).

We seem to want to go to extremes whenever a moral dilemma arises.  I observed this summer with Michael Jackson’s and Steve McNair’s deaths as one extreme group had them both frying in the pit of hell fire and brimstone (not having any confirmed idea regarding the state of their, ahem, personal relationship with God), while the other side was making jokes about the predicaments they had gotten themselves into that led to their demise.

Pardon me, but I take no joy in another man’s calamity.  It grieves me.

The reason? Because we hurt ourselves and we hurt each other.

Aw, most people have good hearts and don’t mean to…but the fact is, folks, is that we are often propelled by our drives (hunger, sex, greed) and it takes us places we just shouldn’t go.

And, again, we end up hurting ourselves and we hurt each other.

If you don’t believe me, listen to Dave, who summed up his situation with such honesty and transparency:

“Inadvertently, I just wasn’t thinking ahead,” Letterman said. “My thanks to the staff for, once again, putting up with something stupid I’ve gotten myself involved in.”

She has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it’s your responsibility, you try to fix it…Either you’re going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you’re going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me.“

I think it’s absolutely great that Dave is putting himself out here as an example of a guy who has messed up bad, got busted in a really big way, but is facing it head-on, and is going to work his butt off to make it right by everybody he’s done wrong.

The cynical will say he would have kept living his “creepy” ways had he not been caught (via being extorted for $2 million by a CBS producer), and perhaps that is true…but sometimes getting caught is the best thing that can happen to a person.  Sometimes that is the very thing that saves an addict from destroying themselves.

Here’s what I love about life, though:  the most incredible thing…the thing that gives me so much hope…is that with each new breath we take is the opportunity for a new beginning.  It’s the opportunity to make a better decision.  To make right a wrong.  To start anew.

I know that I have struggled with some pretty destructive patterns of behavior in my own life…and I am trying, trying, trying to make each moment a new beginning of life-giving behavior.  Life-giving to my mind, body, and spirit…and to those I encounter.

No doubt I will falter.  When I do, I’m going to accept the gift of the next breath and a new beginning to do better.

A song along these lines (pun intended) is “Snow (Hey Oh)” by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

At first glance, the general consensus is that the song is about addiction to drugs (cocaine, heroine), and it certainly applies; however, RHCP lead singer and co-writer, Anthony Kiedis, said, “It’s about the repeated failure to start your life anew and how difficult it can be to get rid off old ways of thinking, and destructive ideas we become so attached to.”

That is how the song speaks to me.

“Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)

Yes, I just quoted the Holy Bible and Red Hot Chili Peppers in the same blog post…that’s how I roll.

Snow is symbolic of purity and starting anew. We walk through this life leaving a path of mistakes behind us, but “deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder where it’s so white as snow,” our past is covered leaving a fresh, new path to forge ahead.

Que no se confunda nadie, este post no es uno de esos que lanzábamos tiempo atrás en busca de la visita y el comentario fáciles. Se trata de un agradecimiento a todas esas personas que habéis visitado el blog a diario, o cada vez que habéis podido,  para compartir con un servidor y el resto de internautas vuestra opinión acerca de  la banda californiana. Desde su publicación el 15 de diciembre de 2007, Los tatuajes y Anthony Kiedis se ha convertido en nuestra entrada más comentada y leída, con más de 200 comentarios y 29.000 visitas en total. Pues con esta revisión celebramos dichas cifras, de las que me siento especialmente orgulloso ya que por aquel entonces no pensé que mi grupo fetiche fuese también el de tanta gente de tan dispares rincones del planeta. Gracias a todos y a todas, el mérito es vuestro. Pero aún hay más, y es que comunico que la historia no terminará aquí porque a este post le sucederán nuevos de la categoría Soy el que más sabe de los Peppers del mundo a lo largo de la presente temporada de El Sonido de California, mucha atención.  Y ahora, como diría cierto general japonés doblado al castellano, ¡al turrón!

A continuación repasaremos las pinturas con las que el líder de Red Hot Chili Peppers adorna su anatomía, eso sí, por encima de la cintura para desconsuelo de  las groupies más morbosas en particular y de las mentes calenturientas en general.

Comencemos con el más llamativo de todos. Se trata de una especie de águila con sus alas y garras desplegadas, mostrando una cara de demonio en la parte posterior del tronco. El dibujo, propio de la cultura de los indios norteamericanos Haida,  domina la espalda del artista. Una localización que habría mantenido el tatuaje oculto,  a salvo de la mirada del público, de no haber sido por su pasión por aparecer en el escenario descamisetado.

A la altura de su hombro izquierdo encontramos el primer motivo que Anthony se hizo tatuar, el rostro de un jefe indio,  en concreto el Jefe Joseph, y debajo de él, un corazón tribal (sobre estas líneas).

Otro indio ilustre, en este caso el gran sioux “Toro Sentado“, luce en su hombro derecho sobre una imagen de la Flor de lis.

En ese mismo brazo hay dibujado un tigre cuya larga cola termina prácticamente en la muñeca del cantante, donde, casualemente, brilla con luz propia esa especie de estrella de ocho puntas, el asterisco que los Peppers utilizan como símbolo.  Por último, una daga de estilo tribal con cabeza de animal adorna cada brazo —reverso— por debajo del codo. Éstas,  a pesar de  no ser idénticas, dan una sensación de simetría (bajo estas líneas, imagen tomada por Danny Clinch/CORBIS OUTLINE).

“While the Red Hot Chili Peppers slumbered, the band’s members have been keeping busy these last couple of years, what with drummer Chad Smith joining all-star group Chickenfoot, frontman Anthony Kiedis developing a series for HBO and bassist Flea enrolling at USC to study music theory. But things are about to change in Pepperland. Smith recently told Billboard the band would reconvene in the studio this fall, and Keidis and Flea confirm to Rolling Stone they are indeed ready to rock again.

“We’ve decided to write some songs,” Kiedis told us at a benefit for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, the Los Angeles school Flea founded. “We imposed a two-year hiatus, which we felt we needed, then we went back to the roundtable and the decision was, ‘Let’s do this.’ “

There’s no timetable yet on a new album, their first since 2006’s double-platinum Stadium Arcadium, but Flea, for one, is anxious to get going. “After being kind of burnt at the end of our last tour, I feel major enthusiasm and vigor,” he said. “Not like a restlessness, but a really healthy excitement. I’m just into it and ready to go forward.” Offers Kiedis: “The seeds are being planted.”

Smith told Billboard that he and his bandmates “haven’t talked about” a potential producer, but joked that Rick Rubin, the guiding force behind the Chili’s last five albums, “always ends up being the guy.” Sure enough, Rubin made his presence known as a benefactor of the Conservatory and a guest at the August 15th fundraiser by wearing his trademark white T-shirt and jeans to the formal affair.”

WILL FERRELL ATTACKS INSURANCE EXECS

Is It Time To Boycott Hollywood?

 I’ve two points to make: first, and foremost, how is it that a multimillionaire, who has a degree in sports casting, can walk a mile in my shoes? Ferrell did not exactly grow up poor; his dad was the keyboard player for the righteous brothers. I only wish some of that righteousness would have rubbed off on him, as his video is not exactly righteous for the many reasons listed in the comments section of Dave Cook’s article, “Will Ferrell Attacks Insurance Execs.” The other point I wanted to make is that in general, if you make more than ten grand a year, you pay taxes, the amount varies, however 30% of a year’s earnings is a pretty common. That 30% does not include property taxes and sales tax. Making healthcare mandatory and/or implementing fines for not having healthcare is essentially adding more taxes. So if we need to pay out another 10% of earnings, whether you’re 20 years old and fit as a fiddle or not, you will only be keeping 60% of your earnings. Add in another $1500 in property taxes and we then keep 55%. This is unacceptable. As for Ferrell, I advise him to look around at his surroundings; arguably, Oprah is losing her fan base, because of her political pandering, this should be an eye-opener for Hollywood types. We, the people who make or break celebrities, don’t want to hear your manurish ramblings. I’m like a freaking elephant, and I do not forget. The list of movie and TV personalities that I will not support, and vehemently oppose in public circles when they are introduced in conversation, just keeps growing and growing. I don’t mind that celebrities have an opinion, but theres no need to jam your opinion down the throats of those without one. I have no use for knuckleheads like Madonna, Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Bill Maurer, Jessica Alba, Ryan Phillippe, John Legend, Anthony Kiedis, Taye Diggs, Kate Walsh, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Tobey Maguire, Edward Norton Jr., Morgan Freeman, Ben Stiller, Jeffrey Katzenberg, David Geffen, Will Smith, Chris Rock, Sean Penn, and the one that hurts me most, as I used to be such a big fan, Eddie Murphy; I refuse to watch them on the big screen or TV. Advertisers, should take heed as well, as it affects their bottom line when they use these pompous windbags. Do us all a favor Hollywood; keep your effer-vescing pie holes shut. Mr. Ferrell, and company, welcome to my black list!

WILL FERRELL ATTACKS INSURANCE EXECS

The battle over health care reform took to the web Tuesday, as comedian Will Ferrell and a group of other Hollywood stars released a sarcastic video mocking health insurance executives and pitching the need for a publicly-run health insurance option.

The video was released by Ferrell’s video website “Funny or Die” and by the liberal political group MoveOn.org.

“Humor can serve as a powerful reminder to Americans about what exactly is at stake” Justin Ruben, executive director of MoveOn.org, said in a statement.

Tongue in cheek

The video opens with Jon Hamm, star of TV’s “Mad Men,” saying, “Something terrible is happening.” Ferrell explains the terrible thing is that “health insurance executives are getting a bum rap.” Stars including Olivia Wilde of “House,” Masi Oka of “Heroes,” Donald Faison of “Scrubs,” and Linda Cardellini of “ER,” offer the tongue in check admonition that “we need to remember who the real victims are – health insurance executives.”

Ferrell sarcastically asks, “So why is Obama trying to reform health care when insurance companies are doing just fine making millions of dollars of profit?”

The video continues with an actor saying, “Insurance companies need our support because they keep our selfish priorities in check when we can’t.”

And Ferrell returns to the screen to say, “Insurance companies are detailed enough to reject claims for things like typos. If you spell something wrong, do you really deserve surgery? I don’t think so.”

Pitching the public option

The video closes with a slide urging viewers to “Call Congress: tell them we need a strong public health insurance option.”

The video hit the web on the same day the Senate Finance Committee began hearings on Chairman Max Baucus (D) of Montana’s draft health care reform legislation. The so-called chairman’s mark dos not include the public health insurance option Ferrell and his colleagues are pushing.

But Baucus did announce Tuesday several new measures to make health insurance more affordable for working families, including increased subsidies for lower income families, limits on additional charges insurance companies can impose on older workers, and lower penalties on those who defy rules requiring them to buy insurance.

Republicans attacked the plan, with Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., saying the legislation was a “stunning assault on our liberty.” He cited several provisions to strengthen the government’s role in health care.

yes my reading skills are crap !

 NO , I read to my daughter, but finding time for me to read is hard. !

 Well I have just started reading Slash – the autobiography. and it is a good read so far,

I kinda got into autobiographies through sport, and Phil Tufnell, Darren Gough , Mel Sterland, but then read the brilliant Scar Tissue – Anthony Kiedis, which is a tough read, but already being a fan, I found that playing the back catalogue whist reading the book, helped understand the motives, and reasons behind the songs .

 Biographies…   No NO,  I tried a Billy Joel book recently ( I am a major Billy Joel fan also ) but it just wasn’t write..  get it ??    Come on Billy, get it written !!

So on to Slash, I have high hopes, we shall see……

Obaj panowie porazili nas w ostatnim czasie (mam na myśli ostatnie parę lat) swoimi autobiografiami. Jest to starcie gigantów. Pojedynek trwający i nierozstrzygnięty – wszak obaj czują się dobrze, żyją, nagrywają, koncertują. Obaj też chyba żyją nieco łagodniej niż w czasach, które opisują w swoich książkach. Obie to emocjonalne wiwisekcje. To wejście w świat backstage. To wgląd w intymność. To zapiski niczym z Charlesa Bukowskiego. Panowie od oseska już – wzięli sobie do serducha hasło sex, drugs & rock’n'roll i skutecznie je przez lata wprowadzali w życie. Bez taryfy ulgowej, bez urlopu, bez znieczulenia. Bez pruderii.

Im dalej brniemy w te pamiętniki, tym bardziej zastanawiamy się – czy to wszystko jest prawdą? Czy nie czytamy kroniki wypadków, powieści sensacyjnej czy podręcznika Wisłockiej. Czasami jest to niemal jak przewodnik Cejrowskiego przez dzikie plemiona – ale nawet Cejrowski by tego nie uniósł. Załamałby się.

Zachęciłem? Napewno! Jeżeli ktoś nie czytał to teraz sięgnie. Ja zostawiam wynik tego “meczu” otwarty. Może ktoś z Was oceni, który z Panów pojechał bardziej po bandzie. Może ktoś dorzuci “mocne” żywoty Milesa Davisa, Ozzy’ego Osbourne’a, Freddiego Mercury’ego?

Elementarz dla rodzimych “rockowców”! Lady Pank czy Maleńczuka nie trzeba niczego uczyć, ale Wydra czy Kupicha mogliby poczytać jak być “twardym rockowcem”, bo nie wystarczy nosić skórzanej kurtki. Może poprzez lekturę zrozumieją, że autentyczność i wiarygodność artysty wynika z jego życia, nawet jeżeli nie jest ono godne naśladowania – to chociaż daje do myślenia. A jeżeli nie daje – to może warto przemyśleć zmianę branży.

A Red Hot Chili Peppers 2007 szeptemberében vonult pihenőre, s bár akkoriban egy év szünetet ígértek a tagok, végül kettő lett belőle. Anthony Kiedisék most úgy érzik, ismét képesek együtt dolgozni, és Chad Smith dobos szerint októberben el is kezdődhet a közös munka, már csak egy producert kell találni, aki irányítja majd a következő lemez felvételeit…

“A terv az, hogy októberben összejövünk. Szeptemberben lesz két éve, hogy szabadságot vettünk ki, mostanra mindenki úgy érzi, hogy készen áll a folytatásra. Hosszú volt a pihenő, de senkit sem lehet arra kényszeríteni, hogy olyasmit csináljon, amit nem akar, vagy legalábbis még nem kész rá. E mi zenekarunkban ez így működik. Valószínűleg improvizálással, sok dzsemmeléssel kezdünk, és ebből állnak össze az új számok. Eddig így dolgoztunk, nincs okunk a változtatásra” – fogalmazott Smith.

After some two years of hiatus the members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers are getting back together this October to record another album. I have the biggest smile on right now. After hearing about the group’s “disbandment”  I started to worry I wouldn’t get another chance to see these guys live in concert again. You gotta see them. No excuses. Pawn your iPhone for tickets, rob the cash register, blow the scalper, I dont care. Maybe not that last one. But the guys who brought you Stadium Arcadium, my memory soundtrack for summer 2006, and BloodSugarSexMagik, the funkiest album ever, are kickin up another shit storm of raw talent. I cant wait…becuase Chicken Foot is a terrible band and Chad Smith can do better.

When I created my account on Twitter, I didn’t know who to follow. When I signed in, I saw very few messages and was discouraged by the social networking site. After awhile, I asked Google to tell me who to follow. I got several suggestions and now I follow people like Lance Armstrong, Johann Bruyneel, Rainn Wilson, and Adam Savage of the Mythbusters. I of course read their updates and as you might imagine I was interested in the tweets of Lance and Johann during the TDF. I am also amused by Rainn Wilson’s musings.

Reading their status updates was akin to being a voyeur, but a sanctioned voyeur. It wasn’t until I made contact with Adam Savage that I became more than an observer.

I’ve seen celebrities before, but never engaged them. In 2001, friends and I went to Omaha, NE to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighters. As we checked into our room at the Embassy Suites and were waiting in the lobby, John Frusciante walked in, his face buried in a chinese take-out box. Anthony Kiedis walked through the lobby going the other way singing “American Band.” Then we saw Chad Smith in the Bar with Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. After the show we went to Foo guitarist Chris Shifflett’s room where he and Flea, and other fans, were sitting in a living room area discussing “Office Space” and not drinking. None of the fans spoke, we all just listened.

Most notably though was when I saw Leonardo DiCaprio at the Villa Borghese in Rome, Italy. The Villa Borghese was used by Cardinal Scipione Borghese and family as their home in the city and to house their art collection, which includes works by the famous sculptor, Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Leo wore a “Gangs of New York” hat and had a large entourage. As he toured the gallery, he emulated the famous sculptures. In front of the David (below) he crouched down to mimic the pose. At Apollo and Daphne (also below) he actually touched the delicate marble leaves, a big no-no. I didn’t talk to Leo though, I’m pretty sure his entourage would have dropped me.

On Twitter though, people can converse with the celebrities they follow. Yesterday, Adam Savage tweeted:

The web-address links to a figure of several countries with Universal Health care and their life expectancies. Savage’s point was that people in countries with universal healtcare live longer.

@donttrythis As a mythbuster, are you sure you can trust that Universal Health Care CAUSES increased life expectancy?

@donttrythis I apologize if that came off as snide. Universal Health Care sounds great, but I’m not sure it will make us live longer…

Now today, Savage has responded, but not to me directly. Does that mean I talked to a celebrity?

Okay okay. I totally agree correlation /= causation. AND I won’t post another graph w/o documentation. If the Public Option goes away …
