There is a battle for hearts and minds in this world; to use a boxing analogy it’s Christ vs Satan. Prophecy tells us that Satan takes the first 3 1/2 year round on points via his proxy the Beast against Christs proxy the Church. Between rounds 1 and 2 there is considerable wrath from Christ’s father who has a vested interest in the outcome and disputes the round 1 points. Christ comes out swinging at the beginning of the second 1000 year round knocking down Satan who gets up just in time to hear the bell that ends his career.

So what are the tactics that Christ’s opposition – the spirit of Anti-Christ, Satan and the Beast – using to win over hearts and minds i.e. the temple of God in the new covenant?

There are two events in the last 18 months that demonstrate the power of words, charisma, propaganda and indoctrination. The first is the presentation by Barack Obama of the words written by an expert in the field – Jon Favreau..

The second is a move by Satan to claim dominion over the earth using two proxies: environmentalism coupled with world government. An insight into the reason why there was no early reporting of the climate change fraud by MSM and specifically the BBC can be gained by studying the climate change communications strategy used by the BBC among others i.e. know your enemy (the German channel DWTV is also a good primer).

There is a strong misunderstanding and misinterpretation about the book of Revelation in regards to time frames that is creating a serious error in understanding the book and its prophecies.  

Most readers of the book of Revelation start with an assumption. The assumption is that the book starts at a beginning point on a time line of events and proceeds to describe events in a totally linear fashion. Now immediately many readers here will wonder what is meant by the term ‘linear.’  

Linear in this regard is a term that means a sequence of events listed in the order in which they occur within a frame of time. In the case of the book of Revelation, we have a list of events described, one after the other. The question raised here is whether or not each event that is described for a future point in time within the book of Revelation occurs in chronological order.  

If we put the future events described in the book of Revelation onto a time line we should ask whether or not event A occurs first, followed by events B, C, D and so forth clear down to event Z in completely chronological order?  Some would ask if perhaps ‘event G’ might occur before event “D” If so, then the overall description of events would not be in a chronologically, linear order of events. 

Putting this another way, we might ask if the book of Revelation is in a completely chronological order of events. To answer this question properly let’s take an over view look of the entire book in a broad, general outline.  

We can look at the book of Revelation in outline form as falling into 3 main categories.

I. Past Events:  Christ (1:1-20)  

II. Current Situation: The Churches (2:1–3:22)  

III. Future Events: The Consummation of Time (4:1–22:21)

In a broad outline, the book begins with past events and then proceeds to events current at the time of the author’s writing of the book. The third section deals with future events yet to come. In this broad outline we see a progression of events that are describing the past, present and then the future, which indicates an ongoing chronological chain of events. 

Now, while the overall book itself is generally within a chronological time frame of events listed in chronological order, can we say that all events described in Revelation, chapters 3 through 22 are in a continuous stream of events in chronological order? The answer to this secondary question is absolutely ‘No.’  

Look at the subject content of chapter 4 through 22 in a broad over view. 

Chapters 4 & 5 – Deal with events in Heaven 

Chapters 6 & 7 – Deal with the 7 Seals of Judgment (and also 8:1) God’s wrath against Planet Earth.  

But also notice that within these two chapters we have a parenthesis of events in heaven. In chapter 7 verses 1 through 17, we find the sealing of 144,000 witnesses, plus worship of God by innumerable converts, including Tribulation martyrs. The question to ask is whether or not this parenthesis is part of the chronological events on earth or separate from those events. The answer is – we do not know – where this parenthesis actually falls in any chronology of earthly events, because the text is not specific. This could be describing a heavenly event just near the end of the Tribulation or near the start or somewhere in between. 

Chapters 8 thru 11 – Deal with the 7 Trumpet Judgments. There is further wrath poured out on Earth. 

These judgments are more drastic, more definite and final than the Seal judgments. After the first 6 Trumpet judgments are described we find yet another parenthesis. Inside this parenthesis we find the description of the “Little Book” and the story of the Two Witnesses, then returning to describe the final Trumpet judgment in chapter 11, verses 15-19 which describes only what’s going on in Heaven as the last Trumpet blows. We have no description of what is going on down on Earth with this last Trumpet Judgment.   

Could the 7th Trumpet Judgment be coinciding with the 7th “bowl” judgment of chapter 16:17-21?  We cannot be certain either way, yet it is curious that we have no description in this passage of what the results of the 7th Trumpet judgment are down on Earth. We are only told what is going on in heaven as the Trumpet sounds. 

After this last Trumpet judgment, we find 3 more parenthesis covering chapters 12 through 14.

So, it’s been awhile since my last entry. I’ve been stuck in my head thinking about the past as though I can help it. I swear, if I had a time machine I would definitely make good use of it.. Anyways, this disability thing is getting ridiculous and I decided today that I need a project. Since I can’t do anything too physical (which is consequently causing me to gain weight AND go stir crazy), I’ve decided to try out this Master Cleanse thing. Ever heard of it? Apparently it works wonders and all I have to do is drink this lemonade concoction six to ten times a day. I doubt it will be that easy considering I have the appetite of an entire football team so not eating for 10 days is going to be difficult. But, it gives me something to do, something to strive for. Plus, I’ve been on so much medication for my back that I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to cleanse my body out. My kidneys will love me for this.

In other news, I’m sure you’ve heard that President Obama made a douchebag move by deciding to send 34,000 more troops to Afghanistan. All I can think about is my little brother. I would absolutely lose it if something happened to him, Nik. I know I shouldn’t think like that, but I can’t help it. I’ve even stopped watching the news because it doesn’t help to have all those casualty updates thrown in my face. You know what really pisses me off? Nearly everyone is still mesmerized by him! Yes, he’s a great public speaker, but you know what? So was Hitler. I’m not saying Obama is going to turn into a racist dictator, I just mean that all the brilliant speeches in the world wont do a damn bit of good if there is no positive action afterwards. It’s infuriating that during his election campaign he spoke of bringing peace, of ending these pointless wars, and of returning our loved ones back home. Now look, 11 months later and all of that goes out the door.

Yesterday I actually entertained what used to seem like a ridiculous thought. I was thinking of Revelations, and how they described the Anti-Christ. It’s said that he would charm us all, that no body would expect a thing. During the election campaign I remember hearing somebody say that Obama was exactly this, and at the time I thought it was such a bogus statement, especially since I wasn’t yet sure about my own religious beliefs. Yesterday, though, I found that idea creeping into my head. I don’t actually think it’s true, but like I said, I did entertain it for a moment. Guess I’m just not buying into all the Obama hype, huh?

Alright, I’m off to take a nap. Damn medicine makes me drowsy. As usual, I miss you, Nikki. Maybe today will be the day you search for something on Google that will lead you here. I sure hope so.

anti-christ

The etymology of the word anti-christ, is easily mistaken by English speaking persons to mean, that which is opposed to, or opposite. This is not the case with the Greek word used in the Bible. It does not convey the idea of an enemy,but rather, signifies one who is, in the stead of, or substitute, vice or vicar.

A close example would be our own word vice-president; the person who holds this office speaks and acts for the President when the President is unavailable or indisposed. An example of this is found in the Chronicles of Zechariah of Mytilene (6th century, Ch. 1, par. 1, Burry’s Byzantine Texts).

It says: “King Justin made his sister’s son who was General, Anti-Caesar, and Justinian became Anti-Caesar on the 5th day of the week in the last week of the fast.”

Therefore, anti-christ will be anyone who takes the place of Christ, who stands in His stead, or claims to speak for Him.

There are only four places in the Bible where the term antichrist appears.  As you read them please note the following:

* There is no concept of a single man in the word “many”
* “is here”; and “have come” do not denote a distant future appearance

John writes that there are many antichrists and that they were already present in the first century.

The word antichrist is only used by the apostle John.  See the following verses:

“Children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come; therefore we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out, that it might be plain that they all are not of us. But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all know. I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and know that no lie is of the truth. Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also. Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he has promised us, eternal life.” 1 John 2:18 – 27

“I write this to you about those who would deceive you; but the anointing which you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that any one should teach you; as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie, just as it has taught you, abide in him.
And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that every one who does right is born of him.” 2 John 26-29

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit which confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit which does not confess Jesus is not of God. This is the spirit of antichrist, of which you heard that it was coming, and now it is in the world already. Little children, you are of God, and have overcome them; for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world, therefore what they say is of the world, and the world listens to them. We are of God. Whoever knows God listens to us, and he who is not of God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” 1 John 4:1 – 6

“For many deceivers have gone out into the world, men who will not acknowledge the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh; such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. Look to yourselves, that you may not lose what you have worked for, but may win a full reward. Any one who goes ahead and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the doctrine has both the Father and the Son. If any one comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into the house or give him any greeting; for he who greets him shares his wicked work.” 2 John 7-11

Do not be deceived or lulled into a false sense of repose. The deceiver would have you believe that all is well until some future catastrophe happening. Open your eyes and be on guard for anti-christ/s  are here now; just as they were during the 1st century. Don’t be fooled by the signs that they post to lead us down the wrong road! Be diligent and read The Word; that you may show yourself approved [2 Tim 2:15].

In the words of one of our favorite radio personality, “words mean something”.  Pay attention to the scripture and remember to let scripture interpret scripture.  If you do this one thing you will get farther down the right road then most do.

I myself do not consider the Anti-Christ as a singular person – but this was pretty interesting to say the least.

I do however, regard the Anti-Christ as the colluded manipulation of media. Now bearing that in mind, we have Soros invested into Time Warner (CNN), Jeff Immelt CEO of G.E. who owns MSNBC etc etc, Immelt close friends of Obama. Obama has appointed Immelt onto his Recovery Panel – Obama gets free propaganda from G.E. Media/CNN and G.E. gets Government contracts. Hmm m, now wait a minute – this is collusion, and maybe the Hermeneutical Science in this video, is simply identifying one well known entity of this collusion. Never the less, it is thought provoking and I do very seriously believe Obama is practicing taqiyya. This same taqiyya was used by Islam to penetrate the Roman Catholic Church as Catholics – of which, the Spanish Inquisitions were born – to rid the Church of these evil islamic vermin. Everybody knows that good Muslims never do the things they do, (because Allah does it for them, Quran 8:12) and we know that only our misperceptions, ignorance and stereotyping of Islam makes Muslims chop off heads, kill and rape women and children, bomb subways, buses, nightclubs and fly jets into buildings. Yes, Europe knows that only idiots oppose Islam and sensible people (English/French) submit, but  you should know that Americans are ignorant bigots, hypocrites and Islamophobes, and we prefer to remain that way… But since you are forcing yourselves (and your abhorrent belief-system on us) we will defend ourselves, because we must. If you annoy us, you will be banned, so try to contribute in a positive way, don’t try to sell snake oil, don’t try to cover us with Islamic shrouds of kitman and taqiyya, write in English, try to tell the truth, (we know that’s hard for you because you are all pathological liars) but the truth will set you free, try it!

Prior to his conversion to Catholicism, John Henry Cardinal Newman, soon to be Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman,  preached in 1838 a series of Advent Sermons on the Anti-Christ.  I have always found them extremely intriguing, and I am going to present them on each of the Sundays in Advent this year.

In this first sermon Newman gives us an overview of the Anti-Christ and the time of his appearance.  We see in this sermon Newman’s total command of history and how he uses this knowledge to draw out the implications of the few mentions of the Anti-Christ in Scripture.  Newman intellectually was always first and foremost a historian of the highest order and he puts this talent to good and instructive use in this sermon.  When Newman converted the Church gained one of the finest intellects of the Nineteenth Century or any century for that matter.  Much of Newman’s work concerned the working out of God’s plan for salvation through human history, and his examination of the Anti-Christ places that mysterious part of revelation into that plan.

“Let no man deceive you by any means:
for that Day shall not come,
except there come a falling away first,
and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.”

THE Thessalonian Christians had supposed that the coming of CHRIST was near at hand. St. Paul writes to warn them against such an expectation. Not that he discountenances their looking out for CHRIST’S coming,-the contrary; but he tells them that a certain event must come before it, and till that was arrived, the end would not be. “That Day shall not come,” he says, “except there come a falling away first.”

As long as the world lasts, this passage of Scripture will be full of reverent interest to Christians. It is their duty ever to be watching for the advent of their LORD, to search for the signs of it in all that happens around them; and above all to keep in mind this great and awful sign which the text speaks of. At this season of the year, then, when we turn our thoughts to the coming of CHRIST, it is not out of place to review the intimations given us in Scripture concerning His precursor: this I shall now do in several Sermons; and, in doing so, I shall follow the exclusive guidance of the ancient Fathers of the Church.I follow the ancient Fathers, not as thinking that on such a subject they have the weight they possess in the instance of doctrines or ordinances. When they speak of doctrines, they speak of them as being universally held. They are witnesses to the fact of those doctrines being received, not here or there, but every where. We receive those doctrines which they thus hold, not merely because they hold them, but because they bear witness that all Christians every where then held them. We take them as honest informants, but not as a sufficient authority in themselves, though they are an authority too. If they were to state these very same doctrines, but say, “These are our opinions; we deduced them from Scripture, and they are true,” we might well doubt about receiving them at their hands. We might fairly say, that we had as much right to deduce from Scripture as they had; that deductions of Scripture were mere opinions; that if our deductions agreed with theirs, that would be a happy coincidence, and increase our confidence in them; but if they did not, it could not be helped-we must follow our own light. Doubtless no man has any right to impose his own deductions upon another, in matters of faith. There is an obvious obligation, indeed, upon the ignorant to submit to those who are better informed; and there is a fitness in the young submitting implicitly for a time to the teaching of their elders; but beyond this, one man’s opinion is not better than another’s. But this is not the state of the case as regards the primitive Fathers. They do not speak of their own private opinion; they do not say, “This is true, because we see it in Scripture” -about which there might be differences of judgments-but, “this is true, because in matter of fact it is held, and has ever been held, by all the Churches, down to our times, without interruption, ever since the Apostles:”-where the question is merely one of testimony, whether they had the means of knowing that it had been and was so held; for if it was the belief of so many and independent Churches at once, and that as if from the Apostles, doubtless it cannot but be true and Apostolic.

This, I say, is the mode in which the Fathers speak as regards doctrine; but it is otherwise when they interpret prophecy. In this matter there seems to have been no Catholic, no universal, no openly declared traditions; and when they interpret, they are for the most part giving, and profess to be giving, either their own private opinions, or uncertain traditions. This is what might have been expected; for it is not ordinarily the course of Divine Providence to interpret prophecy before the event. What the Apostles disclosed concerning the future, war, for the most part disclosed by them in private, to individuals-not committed to writing, not intended for the edifying of the body of CHRIST,- and was soon lost. Thus, in a few verses after the text, St. Paul says, “Remember ye not, that when I was yet with you, I told you these things?” and he writes by hints and allusions, not speaking out. And it shows how little care was taken to discriminate and authenticate his prophetical intimations, that the Thessalonians had taken up an opinion, that he had said-what he had not said-that the Day of CHRIST was immediately at hand.

Yet, though the Fathers do not convey to us the interpretation of prophecy with the same certainty as they convey doctrine, yet in proportion to their agreement, their personal character, and the general reception at the time, or the authority of the sources of the opinions they are stating, they are to be read with deference; for, to say the least, they are as likely to be right as commentators now; in some respects more so, because the interpretation of prophecy has become in these times a matter of controversy and party. And passion and prejudice have so interfered with soundness of judgment, that it is difficult to say who is to be trusted in it, or whether a private Christian may not be as good an expositor as those by whom the office has been assumed.

1. Now to turn to the passage in question, which I shall examine by arguments drawn from Scripture, without being solicitous to agree, or to say why I disagree, from modern commentators: “That Day shall not come, except there come a falling away first.” Here it is said that a certain frightful apostasy, and the appearing of the Man of sin, the son of perdition, i.e. as is commonly called, Antichrist, shall precede the coming of CHRIST. Our SAVIOUR seems to add, that it will immediately precede Him, or that His coming will follow close upon it; for, after speaking of “false prophets” and “false Christs,” “showing signs and wonders,” “iniquity abounding,” and “love waxing cold,” and the like, He adds, “When ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.” Again He says, “When ye shall see the abomination of desolation . . . stand in the holy place then let them that be in Judea flee into the mountains.” Indeed, St. Paul implies this also, when he says that Antichrist shall be destroyed by the brightness of CHRIST’S coming.

If, then, Antichrist is to come immediately before CHRIST, and to be the sign of His coming, it is manifest that he is not come yet, but is still to be expected. Further, it appears that the time of Antichrist’s tyranny will be three years and a half, which is an additional reason for believing he is not come; for, if so he must have come quite lately, his time being altogether so short; and this we cannot say he has.

Besides, there are two other attendants on his appearance, which have not been fulfilled. First, a time of unexampled trouble. “Then shall be great tribulation, such as was not from the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be; and except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved.” This has not come. Next, the preaching of the Gospel throughout the world-”And this Gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Now it may be objected to this conclusion, that St. Paul says, in the passage before us, that “the mystery of iniquity doth already work,” i.e. even in his day, as if Antichrist had in fact come even then. But he would seem to mean merely this, that in his day there were shadows and forebodings, earnests and operating elements of that which was one day to come in its fullness. Just as the types of CHRIST went before CHRIST, so the shadows of Antichrist precede him. In truth, every event in this world is a type of those that follow, history proceeding forward as a circle ever enlarging. The days of the Apostles typified the last days: there were false Christs, and troubles, and the true CHRIST came in judgment to destroy the Jewish Church.

In like manner every age presents its own picture of those future events, which alone are the real fulfillment of the prophecy which stands at the head of all of them. Hence St. John says, “Little children, it is the last time; and as ye have heard that the Antichrist shall come, even now are there many Antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.” Antichrist was come, and was not come; it was, and it was not the last time. In the sense in which the Apostle’s lay was the end of the world, it was also the time of Antichrist.-However, a second objection may be made, as follows: St. Paul says, “Now ye know what withholdeth, that he (Antichrist) might be revealed in his time.” Here a something is mentioned as keeping back the manifestation of the enemy of truth. The Apostle proceeds: “He that now withholdeth, will, until he be taken out of the way.” Now this restraining power being generally admitted to be the Roman empire, and the Roman empire (it is argued) having long been taken out of the way, therefore Antichrist has long since come. I grant that “he that withholdeth,” or “letteth,” means the power of Rome, for all the ancient writers so speak of it. I grant that as Rome, according to the prophet Daniel’s vision, succeeded Greece, so Antichrist succeeds Rome, and our SAVIOUR CHRIST succeeds Antichrist. But it does not hence follow that Antichrist is come; for I do not grant that the Roman empire is gone. Far from it: the Roman empire remains even to this day. It had a very different fate from the other three monsters mentioned by the Prophet; as will be seen by his description of it. “Behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.” These ten horns, an Angel informed him, “are ten kings that shall arise out of this kingdom” of Rome. As, then, the ten horns belonged to the beast, and were not separate from it, so are the kingdoms into which the Roman empire has been divided, part of that empire itself,-a continuation of that empire in the view of prophecy, however we decide the historical question. And as the horns, or kingdoms, still exist, as a matter of fact, consequently we have not yet seen the end of the Roman empire. “That which withholdeth” still exists, though in its ten horns; till it is removed, Antichrist will not come. And out of them he will arise, as the same Prophet informs us: “I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another little horn …… and behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.”

2. Now, in the next place, what is told us about Antichrist by the sacred writers? This first of all, as has been already noticed, that he embodies a certain spirit, which existed even in the days of the Apostles. “The mystery of iniquity doth already work.” “Even now there are many Antichrists.” And what that spirit is, St. John declares in a subsequent chapter. ” Every spirit that confesseth not that JESUS CHRIST is come in the flesh, is not of GOD; and this is that spirit of the Antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come, and even now already is it in the world.” Here we see what its doctrine is to be; but on that I shall not here enlarge. I am speaking of its working, which had begun in the days of the Apostles, and has doubtless continued ever since. Doubtless this malignant principle has been at work since from time to time, though kept under by him that “withholdeth.” Nay, for what we know, at this very time there is a fierce struggle, the spirit of Antichrist attempting to rise, and the political power in those countries which are prophetically Roman, firm and vigorous in repressing it. What that spirit is, it would be beside my purpose here to attempt to ascertain, any more than to enlarge upon its doctrine; though certainly there is at this very time, as in the days of our fathers, a fierce and lawless principle every where at work,-a spirit of rebellion against GOD and man, which the powers of government in each country can barely keep under with their greatest efforts. Whether this which we witness be that spirit of Antichrist, which is one day to be let loose, this ambitious spirit, the parent of all heresy, schism, sedition, revolution, and war,-whether this be so or not, certainly the present framework of society and government, as far as it is the representative of Roman power, would seem to be that which withholdeth, and Antichrist is that which will rise when this restraint fails.

3. It has been more or less implied in the foregoing remarks, that Antichrist is one man, an individual, not a power or a kingdom. Such surely is the impression left on the mind by the Scripture notices concerning him, after taking fully into account the figurative character of prophetical language; and such was the universal belief of the early Church. Consider these passages together, which describe him, and see whether we must not so conclude. First, the tee and following verses: “That day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, who is the adversary and rival of all that is called GOD or worshipped; so that he sitteth as GOD in the temple of GOD, proclaiming himself to be GOD . . . Then shall that wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming . . . whose coming is after the working of Satan, with all power and signs and lying wonders.” Next, the following passages in the prophet Daniel: “Another shall rise after them, and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the MOST HIGH, and shall wear out the saints of the MOST HIGH, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.” Again: “In his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom; but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries……And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries; but the people that do know their GOD shall be strong, and do exploits……And the king shall do according to his will, and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvelous things against the GOD of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished……Neither shall he regard the GOD of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces, and a God whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.” Let it be observed, that Daniel elsewhere describes other kings, and that the event has shown them to be individuals, as is generally confessed. And in like manner St. John: “There was given unto him a mouth speaking great things, and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against GOD, to blaspheme His Name, and His tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them; and power was given him over all kindreds and tongues and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

Further, that by Antichrist is meant some one person is made probable by the anticipations, which have already occurred in history, of its fulfillment in this way. Individuals have arisen actually answering in a great measure to the above descriptions; and this circumstance creates a probability, that the absolute and entire fulfillment, which is to come, will be in an individual also. The most remarkable of these shadows of the coming evil appeared before the time of the Apostles, between them and the age of Daniel, viz. the heathen king Antiochus, of whom we read in the books of Maccabees. This instance is the more to the purpose, because he is actually described, (as we suppose) by Daniel, in another part of his prophecy, in terms which seem also to belong to Antichrist, and as belonging, imply that Antiochus was what he seems to be, a type of that more fearful enemy of the Church. This Antiochus was the savage persecutor of the Jews, in their latter times, as Antichrist will be of the Christians. A few passages from the Maccabees will show you what he was.

St. Paul in the text speaks of an apostasy, and of Antichrist as following upon it; thus is the future typified in the Jewish history. “In those days went there out of Israel wicked men, who persuaded many, saying, Let us go and make a covenant with the heathen that are round about us: for since we departed from them, we have had much sorrow. So this device pleased them well. Then certain of the people were so forward herein, that they went to the king, who gave them licence to do after the ordinances of the heathen; whereupon they built a place of exercise at Jerusalem according to the custom of the heathen; and made themselves uncircumcised, and forsook the holy covenant, and joined themselves to the heathen, and were sold to do mischief.” After this introduction the Enemy of truth appears. “After that Antiochus had smitten Egypt, he returned again, . . . and went up against Israel and Jerusalem with a great multitude, and entered proudly into the sanctuary, and took away the golden altar, and the candlestick of light and all the vessels thereof, and the table of the shewbread, and the pouring vessels, and the vials, and the censers of gold, and the veil, and the crowns, and the golden ornaments that were before the temple, all which he pulled off. And when he had taken all away, he went into his own land, having made a great massacre, and spoken very proudly.” After this, he set fire to Jerusalem, “and pulled down the houses and walls thereof on every side. . . . Then built they the city of David with a great and strong wall, . . . and they put therein a sinful nation, wicked men, and fortified themselves therein.” Next, “King Antiochus wrote to his whole kingdom, that all should be one people, and every one should leave his laws: so all the heathen agreed according to the commandment of the king. Yea, many also of the Israelites consented to his religion, and sacrificed unto idols, and profaned the sabbath.” After this he forced these impieties upon the Israelites. All were to be put to death who would not “profane the sabbath and festival days, and pollute the sanctuary and holy people: and set up altars, and groves, and chapels of idols, and sacrifice swine’s flesh and unclean beasts,” and “leave their children uncircumcised.” At length he set up an idol, or in the words of the history, “the Abomination of Desolation upon the altar, and builded idol altars throughout the cities of Juda on every side. . . . And when they had rent in pieces the books of the law which they found, they burnt them with fire.” It is added, “Howbeit many in Israel were fully resolved and confirmed in themselves not to eat any unclean thing, wherefore they chose rather to die . . . and there was very great wrath upon Israel.” Here we have presented to us some of the lineaments of  Antichrist, who will be such, and worse than such, as Antiochus.

The history of the apostate emperor Julian, who lived between 300 and 400 years after Christ, furnishes another approximation to the predicted Antichrist, and an additional reason for thinking he will be one person, not a kingdom, power, or the like.

So again does the false prophet Mahomet, who propagated his imposture about 600 years after Christ came.

And there have been events in our childhood, and in the generation before us, which seem to give still additional probability to the notion, that Antichrist is one, not many men acting together.

What I have said upon this subject may be summed up as follows:-that the coming of Christ will be immediately preceded by a very awful and unparalleled outbreak of evil, called in the text an apostasy, a falling away, in the midst of which a certain terrible man of sin and child of perdition, the special and singular enemy of Christ, or Antichrist, will appear; that this will be when revolutions prevail, and the present framework of Society breaks to pieces; that at present the Spirit which he will embody and represent, is kept under by “the powers that be,” but that on their dissolution, he will rise out of the bosom of them, and knit them together again in his own evil way, under his own rule, to the exclusion of the Church.

4. It would be out of place to say more than this at present. I will conclude by directing your attention to one particular circumstance contained in the text, which I have already in part commented on.

It is said there will “come a falling away, and the man of sin will be revealed.” In other words the man of sin is born of an apostasy, or at least comes into power through an apostasy, or is preceded by an apostasy, or would not be except for an apostasy. So says the inspired text: now observe, how remarkably the course of providence, as seen in history, has commented on his prediction.

First, we have a comment in the instance of Antiochus previous to the prophecy, as I have already shown. The Israelites, or at least great numbers of them, discarded their own sacred religion, and then the enemy was allowed to come in.

Next the apostate emperor Julian, who attempted to overthrow the Church by craft, and introduce paganism back again: he was preceded, nay he was nurtured, in the first great heresy which disturbed the peace and purity of the Church. About forty years before he came to the throne arose the pestilent Arian heresy which denied that CHRIST was GOD. It ate its way among the rulers of the Church like a canker, and what with the treachery of some and the mistakes of others, at one time it was all but dominant throughout Christendom. The few holy and faithful men, who witnessed for the Truth, cried out, with awe and terror at the apostasy, that Antichrist was coming. They called it the “forerunner of Antichrist.” And true, his Shadow came. Julian was educated in the bosom of Arianism by some of its principal upholders. His tutor was the Eusebius from whom its partisans took their name; and in due time he fell away to paganism, became a hater and persecutor of the Church, and was cut off before he had reigned out the brief period which will be the real Antichrist’s duration.

The next great heresy, and in its consequences far more lasting and far spreading, was of twofold character,-with two heads, as I may call them, Nestorianism and Eutychianism, apparently opposed to each other, yet acting towards a common end: it in one way or other denied the truth of CHRIST’S gracious incarnation, and tended to destroy he faith of Christians not less certainly though more insidiously than the heresy of Arius. It spread through the East and through Egypt, corrupting and poisoning those Churches which had once, alas! been the most flourishing, the early abodes and the strong holds of revealed truth. Out of this heresy, or at least by means of it, the impostor Mahomet sprang, and formed his creed. Here is another especial Shadow of Antichrist.

As to the third and last instance, which I might mention in the generation immediately before ourselves, I will but observe that in like manner, the Shadow of Antichrist arose out of an apostasy, an apostasy to infidel doctrines, perhaps the most flagitious and blasphemous which the world has ever seen.

These instances give us this warning. Is the enemy of CHRIST, and His Church, to arise out of a certain special falling away from GOD? And is there no reason to fear that some such Apostasy is gradually preparing, gathering, hastening on in this very day? For is there not at this very time a special effort made almost all over the world, that is, every here and there, more or less, in sight or out of sight, in this or that place, but most visibly or formidably in its most civilized and powerful parts, an effort to do without religion? Is there not an opinion avowed and growing, that a nation has nothing to do with religion; that it is merely a matter for each man’s own conscience,-which is all one with saying that we may let the truth fail from the earth without trying to continue it? Is there not a vigorous and united movement in all countries to cast down the Church of Christ from power and place? Is there not a feverish and ever busy endeavour to get rid of the necessity of religion in public transactions? for example, an attempt to get rid of oaths, under a pretence that they are too sacred for affairs of common life, instead of providing that they be taken more reverently and more suitably? an attempt to educate without religion,-that is, by putting all forms of religion together, which comes to the same thing? an attempt to enforce temperance, and the virtues which flow from it, without religion, by means of societies which are built on mere principles of utility? an attempt to make expedience, and not truth the end and the rule of measures of state and the enactments of law an attempt to make numbers, and not truth, the ground of maintaining, or not maintaining this or that creed, as if we had any reason whatever in Scripture for thinking that the many will be in the right, and the few in the wrong? An attempt to deprive the Bible of its one meaning to the exclusion of others, to make people think that it may have a hundred meanings all equally good, or in other words, that it has no meaning at all, is a dead letter, and may be put aside? an attempt to supersede religion altogether, as far as it is external or objective, as far as it is displayed in ordinances, or can be expressed by written words,-to confine it to our inward feelings, and thus, considering how transient, how variable, how evanescent our feelings are, an attempt in fact, to destroy religion?

Surely, there is at this day a confederacy of evil, marshalling its hosts from all parts of the world, organizing itself, taking its measures, enclosing the Church of CHRIST as in a net, and preparing the way for a general apostasy from it. Whether this very apostasy is to give birth to Antichrist, or whether he is still to be delayed, we cannot know; but at any rate this apostasy, and all its tokens, and instruments, are of the Evil One and saviour of death. Far be it from any of us to be of those simple ones, who are taken in that snare which is circling around us! Far be it from us to be seduced with the fair promises in which Satan is sure to hide his poison! Do you think he is so unskillful in his craft, as to ask you openly and plainly to join him in his warfare against the Truth? No; he offers you baits to tempt you. He promises you civil liberty; he promises you equality; he promises you trade and wealth; he promises you a remission of taxes; he promises you reform. This is the way in which he conceals from you the kind of work to which he is putting you; he tempts you to rail against your rulers and superiors; he does so himself, and induces you to imitate him; or he promises you illumination,-he offers you knowledge, science, philosophy, enlargement of mind. He scoffs at times gone by; he scoffs at every institution which reveres them. He prompts you what to say, and then listens to you, and praises you, and encourages you. He bids you mount aloft. He shows you how to become as gods. Then he laughs and jokes with you, and gets intimate with you; he takes your hand, and gets his fingers between yours, and grasps them, and then you are his.

Shall we Christians, sons of GOD, brethren of CHRIST, heirs of glory, shall we allow ourselves to have lot or part in this matter? Shall we even with our little finger help on the Mystery of iniquity which is travailing for birth, and convulsing the earth with its pangs? “Oh my soul come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united.” “What fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath CHRIST with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? and what agreement hath the temple of GOD with idols? for ye are the temple of the living GOD. Wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate . . . and touch not the unclean thing,” lest you be workers together with GOD’S enemies, and be opening the way for the Man of sin, the son of perdition.

Britain has built the world’s biggest DNA database without proper political debate and police routinely arrest people just to get their DNA profiles onto the system, the genetics watchdog said in a report on Tuesday.

The Human Genetics Commission, which advises the government on the social, legal and ethical aspects of genetics, called for a review of the database and said new laws must be passed to govern its use.

In a damning report, the commission said “function creep” had transformed the system from a DNA store for offenders into a database of suspects.

More than three-quarters of young black men aged between 18 and 35 are on the system, the report said.

Set up in 1995, the database contains the DNA profiles of five million citizens, eight percent of the population, making it the world’s biggest in proportion to population size.

“Parliament has never formally debated the establishment of the National DNA Database and safeguards around it,” commission chairman Professor Jonathan Montgomery said in a statement.

“It has developed through amendments to laws designed to regulate the taking of fingerprints and physical evidence before DNA profiling was developed.

“It is not clear how far holding DNA profiles on a central database improves police investigations.”

The report quoted an unidentified retired senior police officer as saying that “it is now the norm to arrest offenders for everything” in order to obtain a DNA sample.

‘VITAL TOOL’

A Home Office spokesman said the database was a “vital crime-fighting tool” that had linked more than 410,000 crime scenes with a DNA match and a possible lead to an offender between 1998 and March 2009.

“Research shows no clear link between the level of offence for which an individual is arrested and the seriousness of any subsequent offence with which they may be associated,” the spokesman said. No one from the Association of Chief Police Officers could immediately be reached for comment.

Opposition politicians and human rights groups said the report provided further evidence that Britain is becoming a “surveillance society,” where people’s personal details are stored and their movements constantly monitored.

Conservative Home Office spokesman James Brokenshire said Gordon Brown’s government had allowed the DNA database to grow “for the sake of it, regardless of guilt or innocence.”

“Under Labor’s surveillance state, everyone is treated as a potential suspect,” he said.

The report recommended that parliament pass new laws that clearly outline the powers of the police and the DNA database.

An independent panel should be set up to review the evidence on who has given DNA samples and why. The type of offences which require suspects to give a sample must also be reviewed.

Police in England and Wales can take and store the DNA of anyone arrested for a recordable offence, a category that includes all but minor crimes.

STRAIGHT TALK

It seems to me that we have very clear priorities to attend to if we are to survive on planet earth very much longer.

First and foremost is climate change.  We either admit the problem and deal with it, stopping all practices that work against that end, by force, if necessary, or we perish.  Society should triumph over individuals in this regard.  Personal profit is totally unimportant against survival.  What happened to the buggy whip manufacturers when the automobile replaced the horse?  They retooled or died.  Whatever.  Get a damned clue.

Second, we cannot sustain the present form of huge international corporate mega-capitalism.  It is an out of control monster: a willful environmental vampire and oppressor of human rights.  Its rulers and masters make sociopathic decisions on a daily basis.  As they control costs both quality and choice disappear from the marketplace.  They tend to baronies, monopolies, and mini-kingdoms serving the pissant egos of self-styled “giants of commerce.”  They are moribund, sucking ghouls, parasites on the planet and body politic.  They are the great corrupters of mankind and despoilers of the earth.

Third, put religion in its rightful place, not in the government.  If the marching morons of the western religious traditions stopped momentarily to exercise even the barest minimum of individual thought, they would immediately realize that in structure, purpose and results, the forces they support fulfill the mission of the Anti-Christ or its sectarian apocalyptic equivalent.  The marching morons are the people prophesied who follow the WRONG master, necessitating and aiding the Arch Fiend’s attack on all virtue and goodness in the world.  They are the armies of Satan, Shaitan, the bad guy.  The marching morons are ignorant superstitious dupes who hurt other people at the direction of their sick as hell masters.

Fourth, if we wish to progress in a positive and healthful manner, we must liberate the females of our species and educate the children to a rational, scientific and progressive frame of mind.  We do not want to crowd young impressionable minds with superstitions, myths or self-destructive and debasing philosophies.  This will do more to eliminate the physical, mental and emotional abuse that has characterized our species’ formation and created the corrupt and destructive society we inhabit today than any other measure.  We can do so much better, and it begins with free self-directing women and smart well-loved children.

There is more, but this is a fair start.  Just wanted to put these four points out for consideration and possible personal ACTION.  We really don’t have any more time to waste.  KOKO, j

Obama Quietly Backs Patriot Act Provisions by William Fisher Inter Press Service

NEW YORK – With the health care debate preoccupying the mainstream media, it has gone virtually unreported that the Barack Obama administration is quietly supporting renewal of provisions of the George W. Bush-era USA Patriot Act that civil libertarians say infringe on basic freedoms.

And it is reportedly doing so over the objections of some prominent Democrats.

When a panicky Congress passed the act 45 days after the terrorist attacks of Sep. 11, 2001, three contentious parts of the law were scheduled to expire at the end of next month, and opponents of these sections have been pushing Congress to substitute new provisions with substantially strengthened civil liberties protections.

But with the apparent approval of the Obama White House and a number of Republicans – and over the objections of liberal Senate Democrats including Russ Feingold of Wisconsin and Dick Durbin of Illinois – the Senate Judiciary Committee has voted to extend the three provisions with only minor changes.

Those provisions would leave unaltered the power of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to seize records and to eavesdrop on phone calls and e-mail in the course of counterterrorism investigations.  READ MORE:

Antarctic Ice Loss Vaster, Faster Than Thought: Study The Independent/UK

The East Antarctic icesheet, once seen as largely unaffected by global warming, has lost billions of tonnes of ice since 2006 and could boost sea levels in the future, according to a new study.

Published Sunday in Nature Geoscience, the same study shows that the smaller but less stable West Antarctic icesheet is also shedding significant mass.

Scientists worry that rising global temperatures could trigger a rapid disintegration of West Antarctica, which holds enough frozen water to push up the global ocean watermark by about five metres (16 feet).

In 2007 the UN Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) predicted sea levels would rise 18 to 59 centimetres (7.2 to 23.2 inches) by 2100, but this estimate did not factor in the potential impact of crumbling icesheets in Greenland and Antarctica.

Today many of the same scientist say that even if heat-trapping CO2 emissions are curtailed, the ocean watermark is more likely to go up by nearly a metre, enough to render several small island nations unlivable and damage fertile deltas home to hundreds of millions.  READ MORE:

Climate Change Sceptics and Lobbyists Put World at Risk, says Top Adviser by David Adam The Guardian/UK

Chance to limit warming squandered, says scientist.  World needs to prepare to cope with at least 3-4C rise.

Climate change sceptics and fossil fuel companies that have lobbied against action on greenhouse gas emissions have squandered the world’s chance to avoid dangerous global warming, a key adviser to the government has said.

Professor Bob Watson, chief scientist at the Department for Environment and Rural Affairs, said a decade of inaction on climate change meant it was now virtually impossible to limit global temperature rise to 2C. He said the delay meant the world would now do well to stabilise warming between 3C and 4C.

His comments come ahead of key UN negotiations on a new global climate treaty in Copenhagen next month that the UK government insists should still aim for a 2C goal, despite doubts over whether a meaningful deal can be sealed.

In an interview with the Guardian, Watson said: “Those that have opposed a deal on climate, which would include elements of the fossil fuel industry, have clearly made making a 2C target much, much harder, if not impossible. Bernie Sanders Pushes Back On Public Option by Ryan Grim Huffington Post

While conservative members of the Democratic caucus threaten to block passage of health care reform if it includes a public health insurance option, a growing chorus of liberal lawmakers are making similar threats if the bill doesn’t have one.

Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont who caucuses with Democrats, said in a statement on Sunday that the bill must have a strong public option to win his vote.

“I strongly suspect that there are a number of senators, including myself, who would not support final passage without a strong public option,” he said. Not supporting final passage, however, is different than vowing to filibuster it and prevent it from even getting to a vote on final passage, as independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut is now doing, hoping to strip the public option.

But Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said on Saturday night that if the bill bends toward the conservatives, “You’ll lose people on the left.”

One of those could be Roland Burris (D-Ill.), who said Saturday he’d oppose any bill without a public option. “I won’t vote for it,” he said.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said on Saturday night, after the health care bill passed a major legislative hurdle by a party-line, landslide 60-39 vote, that Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Mary Landrieu (D-La.) are working on crafting a public option compromise that could garner 60 votes.

On Sunday, Schumer predicted that the public option would survive and wind up in the final bill that goes to the president’s desk.  READ MORE:

A new realism has emerged. Climate change is no longer rejected as a bogus theory the economy can ill afford. Instead, it’s a business opportunity.

A flower blooms under a floodlight. It is projected on to a huge screen, behind a panel of expensively suited executives. A CNN business correspondent struts up and down a catwalk, excitedly thanking UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the ubiquitous Al Gore. The scene of this corporate love-in? The World Business Summit on Climate Change.

‘The fact that I flew here to sit on a panel for one and a half hours, then I´m flying straight back to the US, is an example of our commitment to environmental sustainability,’ boasts Indra Nooyi, CEO of PepsiCo, blissfully unaware of the irony of her statement. Her fellow industry representatives make similar claims about just how energetically they are saving the planet.

This is the new face of the climate business.

Until recently, many of the globe’s biggest corporations were firmly in the climate change denial camp – and funding spurious research to back up their claims. Now a new realism has emerged. Climate change is no longer rejected as a bogus theory the economy can ill afford. Instead, it’s a business opportunity.

Back in the days of George W Bush, the ostrich-headed faction of US industry held sway. Companies like ExxonMobil saw no profits in ‘climate solutions’, so opposed any climate legislation.  Now, carbon markets – the buying and selling of the right to pollute – are at the heart of proposals for a new global deal at the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen this December, and the ‘progressive’ wing of big business, backed by large US-based NGOs, argues that this market-driven approach is the only way to secure an international emissions reductions deal.

The problem is, critics say, that carbon markets are delaying genuine action on climate change, and shifting attention away from the fundamental task of rapidly phasing out fossil fuels.  How did it come to this?  READ MORE:

An open letter to friends and family — please remove me from your anti-Obama email lists!

Please . . . if you can’t help sending out anti-Obama emails, YouTube videos, jokes, bumper stickers, cartoons, Facebook “causes,” sneering comments (direct or implied), unverified stories or other propaganda — I ask that you remove me from your e-mail and Facebook lists immediately.

I am receiving so many emails from people who claim to be “Christians” with their lips, but their emails are proving otherwise. It is very sad, not only to see so many people blinded by anger and ignorance, but even more people taking advantage of that anger and ignorance (and laziness, I might add) by starting and spreading these emails.

I know it’s so easy to get sucked into all the political noise and what-not (heaven knows I’ve wasted enough time with it). But the only thing these types of emails are proving is that America is certainly NOT being a Christian nation. America is being destroyed…not because of Obama, but because the people are destroying each other. It seems that many “Christians” don’t even realize that they’re breathing life into and becoming their very own “anti-Christ”.

I did not vote for Obama, or for McCain. In fact, I did not vote at all — I didn’t see any candidate worth voting for, and Jesus Christ wasn’t on the ballot. But I am SO sick of the political division, and especially wary of those who say, “Oh, we need to pray for our President!” — then turn around and, with a lazy push of the “send” button, forward these kinds of back-biting emails, crass jokes — or opinions disguised as “facts”.

Until we have learned to love God, love one another (including Obama) — heck, even love our enemies (Matthew 5:44) — what business does ANYONE have calling themselves a Christian? (1 Corinthians 13)

Google OS: Microsoft was never the anti-Christ.  Their EULA (end-user license agreement) has always stated that while they would capture information about people’s computers it would be done anonymously.  Given that Microsoft has a lot of money they would have let themselves open to a boatload of lawsuits had they fibbed on that.  Google, on the other hand, could be seen as Evil Incarnate.  Google’s EULA states that not only will they collect information about you (and not just your computer) but that they will share it with 3rd parties.  The announcement today of the new Google operating system should send shivers to your spine if you believe in privacy.  Google wants you do to save all your files on their computers, not yours.  This is “cloud computing”, an apt name given that clouds are nebulous, and so is any concept of privacy.  If you want to maintain your privacy, might I suggest Windows, Macintosh OS, or Linux?

Tim Lincecum Wins Another Cy Young:  I’m happy for Tim Lincecum.  Here’s a longhaired doper who doesn’t follow the rules for “proper” pitching, and he not only makes it into that rarified world of super-good baseball pitchers, but he’s an all-around nice guy, too.  Tim: Don’t ever change.  Especially, don’t cut the long hair.  Don’t sell out.

UC Fee Hikes & Trash:  Over 1,000 students have been staging protests against fee hikes.  A photo in today’s SF Chronicle shows that students piled trash in a building in protest.  Solution:  If students really want to do something valuable they will stop the protests and brainstorm about how to get those tuition fees down.  Alliances with businesses?  Licensing agreements?  Figuring out ways to cut expenses?  Who knows?  What I do know is that UC has some of the brightest minds on the planet.  Surely they can come up with something besides piling up trash. 

Cancer Guidelines:  Women are hopping mad.  They’re not as sick as they think they are, or as perhaps they want to be.  And now the American Cancer Society has gotten into the act, calling the U.S. government’s cancer screening reduction dangerous.  Well, perhaps it’s dangerous to the Cancer Society’s bottom line.  After all, they get donations because people are worried about cancer.  If people worried less, the Cancer Society makes less money.  Solution: Go with the guidelines.  They’re based on research.  As Dr. Dean Edell says, “Eat, Drink, and Be Merry”.  Replace the gloom and doom with a bit more positive outlook.  After all, the government has recognized that the cancer rate is low enough that the extra screening people had been doing doesn’t help anybody.
