On Oct 26, 2005, while addressing a conference entitled ‘The World without Zionism” in Teheran, Iran’s President Ahmedinejad screamed, ‘Israel must be wiped off the world map,’ to a gathering of 4000 students.

Also he warned Muslim leaders not to recognize Israel and if “anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation’s fury,…..”. He added that any Islamic leader “who recognizes the Zionist regime means he is acknowledging the surrender and defeat of the Islamic world.”

The next day during an annual anti-Israel rally on the last Friday of the month of Ramadan, Ahmedinejad brushed aside world-wide condemnation to his remarks and haughtily defended his words as “just” and added criticisms doesn’t “have any validity”’.

Tens of thousands of hard-core Islamic extremists shouted “Death to Israel, death to the Zionists”; the protesters dragged Israeli flags along the ground and then set them on fire. Several demonstrators carried posters and placards sporting the slogan “Israel should be wiped off the map”.

Joining the protest, Mr. Ahmedinejad said: “My words were the Iranian nation’s words”. “Westerners are free to comment, but their reactions are invalid,” Mr. Ahmedinejad told the official IRNA news agency.

Ahmedinejad was actually repeating Iran’s Islamic Revolution leader, Imam Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s real Islamic vision that seeks to destroy Israel from the face off the earth.

Asaph, a gifted prophetic singer and musician in the 10th cent. BC foretells about the coming future threats against the State of Israel in the following words:

And those who hate Thee have exalted themselves.
They make shrewd plans against Thy people,

That the name of Israel be remembered no more.”

I never expected to agree with everything that ‘365 Ways to Change the World,’ by Michael Norton, suggested. So it comes as no surprise to me to find a suggestion with which I have an issue – so to speak.

The suggestion for today is about buying Palestinian olive oil as a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people and their plight. However, I am loathe to do this.

Why? Is it because I support the Israeli oppression of the Palestinians? No, I do not support the oppression of the Palestinian people. But neither do I support the anti-Israel rhetoric that seems to be continually doing the rounds.

I would love to see an end to the occupation of lands captured during the 1967 war and do not support Israeli settlements in these areas. However, one does need to remember the fact that Israel did not start that 1967 war and the surrounding nations have largely set an agenda since the birth of the modern Israeli state to crush it. There has also been an unending campaign of terror against the Israeli state and Israel has a right to defend itself.

It would be great to see lasting peace in Palestine and for that to happen both sides need to address the important issues I have mentioned here and others. But it is both sides that need to do it – not just Israel and not just the Palestinian people. It is both sides. That is what I support here.

Like Obama, I am a graduate of Harvard Law School. I too have Muslims in my family. I am black, and I was once a leftist Democrat. Since our backgrounds are somewhat similar, I perceive something in Obama’s policy toward Israel which people without that background may not see. All my life I have witnessed a strain of anti-Semitism in the black community. It has been fueled by the rise of the Nation of Islam and Louis Farrakhan, but it predates that organization.

We heard it in Jesse Jackson’s “HYMIE town” remark years ago during his presidential campaign. We heard it most recently in Jeremiah Wright’s remark about “them Jews” not allowing Obama to speak with him. I hear it from my own Muslim family members who see the problem in the Middle East as a “Jew” problem.

Growing up in a small, predominantly black urban community in Pennsylvania, I heard the comments about Jewish shop owners. They were “greedy cheaters” who could not be trusted, according to my family and others in the neighborhood. I was too young to understand what it means to be Jewish, or know that I was hearing anti-Semitism. These people seemed nice enough to me, but others said they were “evil”. Sadly, this bigotry has yet to be eradicated from the black community.

In Chicago, the anti-Jewish sentiment among black people is even more pronounced because of the direct influence of Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. Most African Americans are not followers of “The Nation”, but many have a quiet respect for its leader because, they say, “he speaks the truth” and “stands up for the black man”. What they mean of course is that he viciously attacks the perceived “enemies” of the black community white people and Jews. Even some self-described Christians buy into his demagoguery.

The question is whether Obama, given his Muslim roots and experience in Farrakhan’s Chicago, shares this antipathy for Israel and Jewish people. Is there any evidence that he does. First, the President was taught for twenty years by a virulent anti-Semite, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. In the black community it is called “sitting under”. You don’t merely attend a church, you “sit under” a Pastor to be taught and mentored by him. Obama “sat under” Wright for a very long time. He was comfortable enough with Farrakhan Wright’s friend to attend and help organize his “Million Man March”. I was on C-Span the morning of the march arguing that we must never legitimize a racist and anti-Semite, no matter what “good” he claims to be doing. Yet a future President was in the crowd giving Farrakhan his enthusiastic support.

The classic left wing view is that Israel is the oppressive occupier, and the Palestinians are Israel’s victims. Obama is clearly sympathetic to this view. In speaking to the “Muslim World,” he did not address the widespread Islamic hatred of Jews. Instead he attacked Israel over the growth of West Bank settlements. Surely he knows that settlements are not the crux of the problem. The absolute refusal of the Palestinians to accept Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state is the insurmountable obstacle. That’s where the pressure needs to be placed, but this President sees it differently. He also made the preposterous comparison of the Holocaust to Palestinian “dislocation”.

Obama clearly has Muslim sensibilities. He sees the world and Israel from a Muslim perspective. His construct of “The Muslim World” is unique in modern diplomacy. It is said that only The Muslim Brotherhood and other radical elements of the religion use that concept. It is a call to unify Muslims around the world. It is rather odd to hear an American President use it. In doing so he reveals more about his thinking than he intends. The dramatic policy reversal of joining the unrelentingly ant-Semitic, anti-Israel and pro-Islamic UN Human Rights Council is in keeping with the President’s truest albeit undeclared sensibilities.

Those who are paying attention and thinking about these issues do not find it unreasonable to consider that President Obama is influenced by a strain of anti-Semitism picked up from the black community, his leftist friends and colleagues, his Muslim associations and his long period of mentorship under Jeremiah Wright. If this conclusion is accurate, Israel has some dark days ahead. For the first time in her history, she may find the President of the United States siding with her enemies. Those who believe as I do that Israel must be protected had better be ready for the fight. We are.

The following was written at the Conference, but the wifi was dodgy, hence the late post.

Well, here I am at the fringe of fringes at the Conservative Party Conference, the Taxpayer Alliance/Freedom Association/Conservative Way Forward  “Freedom Zone”, which began at 8 am this morning with Stephen Crabb MP and Douglas Carswell addressing a packed room on the topic of “Why is the left so hostile to Israel?”  I was there in the company of some very sound people, and Polly Toynbee, but she didn’t hang around for long.

Many solutions to the predominantly anti-Israel sentiment of the left were offered, including the observation that Israel was the epitome of the nation state, and attracted the ire of the left on the basis that they preferred supra-national organisations, that take power as far away from the people as possible.

One other interesting thought was that the left has lost most of its recent leads, in terms of the impracticality of Marxism and so on, and had now regressed to the ideas of Jean Jacques Rousseau, with his fondness for pre-industrial society as preferable to modern capitalist democracies. Israel is an island of modernity and advancement in an ocean of less-developed neighbours, and this is an inconvenient reality.

Which is OK, but if you can go that far, then consider something else – what is unique about Israel is its religious history, its attachment to the Jewish people, and its Biblical background, and this is, I think, the problem that the left have.

If you take the view of American conservative Evangelicals, the existence of the state of Israel is a miraculous fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy and evidence itself in human history of God’s existence and involvement in human affairs. It would be unsurprising if the left, which treats the state as Messiah and man as the measure of all things, were less than happy with some divine competition.

Israel has always been the embodiment of one idea – a chosen people. This accepts the idea that some people will obtain more favourable outcomes than others, that some groups of people are different from others, and that some of those differences may be morally relevant. Israel (which in Hebrew means “prince with God”) as an idea, rather than a state, is the opposite of the bland and lowest common denominator  version of equality that is so popular across what remains of the left.

Obama Appoints Muslim to High-level Position in Department of Homeland Security

Purported non Muslim Barack Hussein Obama made a presidential appointment of Muslim Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Arif Alikhan for a top job at the federal Department of Homeland Security. In his new job, Arif Alikhan will be Assistant Secretary for the Office of Policy Development at the Department of Homeland Security. Alikhan has been Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles–in charge of public safety for the city.

Why Muslim Alikhan at the Department of Homeland Security you might ask? DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said Alikhan’s “broad and impressive array of experience in national security, emergency preparedness, and counterterrorism will make him an asset”–yes, but on behalf of the U.S. or Muslims? Alikhan says a big part of his job will be fostering communication between agencies. Alikhan, like Obama, also wants to help improve America’s image with Muslims around the world. He will now set policy on security at the highest levels of the federal government. But what policies has the new Assistant Secretary embraced?

During his years in Los Angeles, Alikhan was responsible for derailing the Police Department’s plan to monitor activities within the Los Angeles Muslim community, where numerous radical mosques and madrassas existed, and where some of the 9/11 hijackers had received support from local residents.

Alikhan is strongly anti-Israel; he has referred to the terrorist organization Hezbollah as a “liberation movement.” Hezbollah is on the U.S. official terrorist list while being an affiliate of the Muslim Public Affairs Council. Alikhan also opposed President George W. Bush’s prosecution of the war on Islamic terror.

In 2007, Alikhan was instrumental in removing the Muslim terror tracking plan in Los Angeles. The Muslim ‘‘Mapping’’ Plan of the Los Angeles Police Department is now “dead on arrival” according to Chief William Bratton. “It is over and not just put on the side,” said Chief Bratton in a meeting with the Muslim leadership of Southern California at that time. The meeting was moderated by Arif Alikhan.

Chief Bratton acknowledged the hurt and offense caused to Muslims and agreed to send a letter to the Muslim community announcing the official termination of the ‘’mapping’’ plan.

A major reason for the termination of the ‘‘mapping’’ plan was the Muslim community’s vociferous opposition and active civic engagement in making themselves heard beyond Los Angeles. Muslim organizations demonstrated a strong unity of purpose and message on the issue of ‘’mapping’’ that led to a position of strength for Muslims in the meeting. Those involved in the initial phases of this controversy were the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California http://www.shuracouncil.org/ and the Council on American-Islamic Relations http://www.cair.com/ , the Muslim Public Affairs arm.

Muslim Democrats welcomed Alikhan’s appointment at a banquet/fundraiser for the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California recently where the first speaker was Arif Alikhan, a devout Sunni and the son of Pakistani immigrants, www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,505573,00 .

Other speakers included Professor Agha Saeed of the American Muslim Task Force (AMT) who spoke about “the struggle of the Muslim Community against the pervasive atmosphere of Islamophobia and hatred in the aftermath of 9/11. It was a struggle against the tide–a very strong tide–to prevent Muslims in America from being marginalized and silenced.”

Professor Saeed issued five demands from Muslims to the Department of Justice. These demands included a cessation to the infiltration by spies of mosques and an end to the introduction of agents provocateur. In addition there was to be a cessation of attempts to undermine Muslim groups such as the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). Last week, Napolitano swore in Damascus-born Kareem Shora, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC)’s national executive director, to a position on the Homeland Security Advisory Council, an outside-the-department group of national security experts that advises the Secretary. TEHRAN, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in his Eid al-Fitr sermon on Sunday that the high turnout of Quds Day rallies in Iran were “a loud and clear shout against the cancer of Zionism.”

Millions of Iranians took to the streets on Friday in different cities to mark the annual anti-Israel Quds Day march in solidarity with Palestinians.

Khamenei said the Quds Day rallies proved once again that the Islamic world does not accept tyranny and the West has failed to undermine Muslims’ unity, Iran’s English-language satellite channel Press TV reported.

The massive rallies were indicative of the fact that those “conspiracies of the arrogant powers” to weaken the Quds Day among Muslims in recent years were “futile,” Khamenei said on the occasion of the Eid al-Fitr, a Muslim holiday that marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

On Friday’s rallies, a statement was issued in support of Palestinians, which said that the Iranians “support Palestinian resistance and Israel must avoid any new adventurism” in the region.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed a crowd gathered at Tehran University at the end of the rallies, reiterating that the Holocaust was a “myth” created by the West to support Israel.

“They (the West) created the myth of the Holocaust,” Ahmadinejad said. “They lied and then support the Jews,” he added.

TEHRAN (Reuters) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called the Holocaust a lie Friday, raising the stakes against Israel just as world powers try to decide how to deal with the nuclear ambitions of an Iran in political turmoil.

“The pretext (Holocaust) for the creation of the Zionist regime (Israel) is false … It is a lie based on an unprovable and mythical claim,” he told worshippers at Tehran University at the end of an annual anti-Israel “Qods (Jerusalem) Day” rally.

“Confronting the Zionist regime is a national and religious duty.”

Ahmadinejad’s anti-Western comments on the Holocaust have caused international outcry and isolated Iran, which is at loggerheads with the West over its nuclear program.

The hardline president warned leaders of Western-allied Arab and Muslim countries about dealing with Israel.

“This regime (Israel) will not last long. Do not tie your fate to it … This regime has no future. Its life has come to an end,” he said in a speech broadcast live on state radio.

Germany said Ahmadinejad was a “disgrace to his country.”

“This sheer anti-Semitism demands our collective condemnation. We will continue to confront it decisively in the future,” Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Ahmadinejad’s comment “only serves to isolate Iran further from the world.”

Ahmadinejad won support from Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah which fought a 34-day war with Israel in 2006. “Our belief and creed … remain that Israel is an illegal entity, a cancerous tumor, that must cease to exist,” Nasrallah said in a televised address.

Ahmadinejad will appear next week at the United Nations General Assembly and Tehran will hold talks on October 1 with major powers worried about the Islamic Republic’s nuclear strategy.

Western powers are concerned by what they have called Tehran’s defiance and “point-blank refusal” to suspend uranium enrichment and address the issue as demanded by U.N. Security Council resolutions since 2006.

Instead of directly addressing those demands, Iran handed world powers this month a proposal that spoke generally of talks on political, security, international and economic issues but was silent on its nuclear program.

Diplomats familiar with the Iranian proposal said it was vague and did not appear to pass “the smell test.”

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said it was time Iran showed it is serious about addressing international concern. “There will be accompanying costs for Iran’s continued defiance: more isolation and economic pressure,” she said.

NUCLEAR PROGRAMME

Ahmadinejad repeated Thursday that Iran would “never” abandon its disputed nuclear program to appease critics.

In an NBC-TV interview, he also offered no direct response when asked whether there were any conditions under which Iran would develop a nuclear weapon.

“We don’t need nuclear weapons,” Ahmadinejad said, speaking through an interpreter. “We do not see any need for such weapons. And the conditions around the world are moving to favor our ideas,” he added.

The major powers suspect Iran’s uranium enrichment program is a cover for developing nuclear weapons. Iran has repeatedly said it is enriching uranium only to generate electricity, not for fissile bomb material, although it has no nuclear power plants to use low-level enriched uranium.

Next month’s major powers talks with Iran offer no clear relief to Israel, which wants world powers to be prepared to penalize Iran’s vulnerable energy imports but sees Russia and China blocking any such resolution at the U.N. Security Council.

The major powers, which include permanent U.N. Security Council members Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States as well as Germany, offered Iran trade and diplomatic incentives in 2006 in exchange for halt to uranium enrichment.

They improved the offer last year but retained the demand that Iran suspend uranium enrichment, something Tehran has ruled out as a precondition.

President Barack Obama, who came to office pledging to engage with Iran, has suggested Tehran may face harsher sanctions, possibly targeting its gasoline imports, if it does not accept good-faith talks by the end of September.

But Russia, which has veto power in the U.N. Security Council, last week ruled out oil sanctions against Iran.

Iran, the world’s fifth-biggest crude producer, is seen as vulnerable to oil sanctions because it imports 40 percent of its gasoline to supply the cheap fuel Iranians see as a birthright.

TURMOIL AT HOME

At home, Ahmadinejad is facing strong opposition which erupted into unrest following his disputed re-election in June.

Friday, Iranian security forces clashed with supporters of opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi and arrested at least 10 of them during annual anti-Israel rallies in Tehran.

Thousands of supporters of Mousavi, wearing green wristbands or shawls, were among crowds marching in the “Qods Day” rallies.

The state news agency IRNA said Mousavi and reformist cleric Mehdi Karoubi, both defeated candidates in June, had been forced to leave the rallies after being attacked by “angry people.”

Reformist former president Mohammad Khatami took part in the rally, but was attacked by hardliners and had to leave after his robe was ripped and his turban fell to the ground, an ally of Khatami who accompanied him told Reuters.

The June vote, which was followed by huge opposition protests, plunged Iran into its worst political crisis in three decades and revealed deepening rifts within its ruling elites.

Opposition leaders say the poll was rigged to secure Ahmadinejad’s re-election. The authorities deny it.

The opposition says 70 people died during protests after the vote. It contradicts the official death toll of 36 people.

The eighth anniversary of the devastating terrorist attacks on United States soil and murder of 2,996 innocent men, women and children on September 11, 2001 serves as a poignant reminder of the historical events that define the depravity of mankind’s lowest common denominator. The citizens of both Israel and the United States are no strangers to these acts of heinous barbarism committed by a cowardice enemy. A nexus between the historical events in the month of September clearly illustrates the incessant threat of Islam that endangers and encroaches upon Western Civilization.

Before the end of the 19th century, the eminent Orientalist Sir William Muir correctly framed the issue without foreknowledge that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem would one day shake the hand of Adolf Hitler in Berlin, thus transferring this baton to Islamic jihadists some sixty years later.

“The sword of Muhammad and the Quran are the most fatal enemies of civilization, liberty, and the truth which the world has yet known.”

Nearly two hundred seventy-nine years after the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock in December 1620, Sir Winston Churchill, the future prime minister of England, issued a prophetic warning regarding the modus operandi of this enemy to Western Civilization.

“Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyzes the social development of those who follow it [Islam]. No stronger retrograde force [Islam] exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism [Islam] is a militant and proselytizing faith.”

Muir and Churchill possessed both the insight and discernment to comprehend the inherent dangers from this formidable threat of Islam to Western Civilization. While revisionists arrogantly deny the salient facts of historical records, their intellectual dishonesty does not withstand the rigorous pursuit of a truthful examination. Europe is collapsing under the stranglehold of Islamic dhimmitude, while Islamic terror cells aided by the support of the Muslim Brotherhood and Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) are actively proliferating in the United States.

The fateful events of September 11, 2001 forever sealed a bond between Israelis and Americans, Jews and Christians. Israel and the United States are strategic partners and friends as this relationship was formed during the birth of the modern state of Israel on May 14, 1948. Students of history recognize that the first Pilgrims in America referred to William Bradford and Cotton Mather as Rabbi. This special bond between Jews and Christians is duly noted by H.E. Michael Oren, Israeli Ambassador to the United States.

“The roots of American support for Israel go back hundreds of years—indeed to the day that the first buckled shoe alighted on a rock along the Massachusetts shore. The owner of that shoe, William Bradford, proclaimed, ‘Come let us declare in Zion the word of G-d.’”

The birth of the United States as a Judeo-Christian nation aided by the American Revolutionary War financier Haym Salomon and the prophetic fulfillment of Israel’s birth as a modern nation are crucial obstacles to Islam’s underlying goal to establish a world wide caliphate. While the 19th of September 2009 marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year – 5770, historians are cognizant of the advent of Islam when the Muslim caliph Abd al-Malik built the Dome of the Rock over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem in 687 C.E. Centuries later, this epic struggle between Western Civilization and Islam only intensifies as parties dispute claims over rightful ownership of Yerushalayim and Eretz Yisrael. Terrorism against innocent lives is condoned by the Muslim umma to achieve their aims in this bloody and unrelenting war.

What lessons are to be learned regarding the recent historical events in the month of September and their nexus to the incessant threats from Islam to Western Civilization??

September 1970 – “Black September” – the Palestinian uprising and all out revolution against the government of Jordan resulted in the murder of thousands of Palestinians, the expulsion of thousands more from Jordan, and the founding of the Black September Organization ultimately responsible for numerous acts of terror. The Black September Organization later became the Palestinian Movement that carried out the Munich Olympics Massacre of eleven innocent Israeli athletes in September 1972. This massacre of innocent Israelis shocked the world and set the stage for a legacy of terror in the decades to follow.

One year prior to the tragedy that struck to the core of the United States on September 11, 2001, the second intifada erupted in Israel on September 28, 2000 during a visit by Israeli opposition leader Ariel Sharon to the Temple Mount, the site of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The end result was 10,000+ rockets raining down on Israel and the murder of over 900 innocent Israeli men, women and children before the commencement of Operation Cast Lead in December 2008. Nevertheless in January 2009, the conclusion of this IDF military offensive did not achieve an end to the rockets which continue to strike Israeli civilian population centers with the latest terrorist attack in Sderot on August 31, 2009. Israel faces an existential threat from Iran, yet Barack Obama wants Israel to give up her nuclear weapons. That is sheer insanity!

What does the future hold for September 2009?

In Chicago on the weekend of 12-13 September 2009, anti-Semitic organizations and individuals from around the United States will be gathering for the US Campaign to End Israeli Occupation. Here is an interesting historical note: in the mid 1890s, the first Jewish American Zionist organization, Chicago Zion Society, in the United States was organized in Chicago. Less than 120 years later, an ominous cloud of darkness has descended over Chicago where we are witnessing a dramatic increase in anti-Semitism.

Palestinian Rashid Khalidi, a close friend of Barack Obama, is the featured guest speaker for this anti-Semitic hate conference in Chicago.
