2.-Por que son Pop y se consideran ROCK.

3.-Por que se atreven a usar poses de Rockeros [las tipicas poses rockeras con guitarra a la mano], cuando ni siquiera tocan rock como anteriormente dije.

4.-Por que las revistas en lugar de enfocarse a sus trabajos, se enfocan a ver con quienes andaban, que hacian tal dia, como se visten, como se peinan, que tal huelen sus pedos, todo menos lo que segun hacen, la musica.

5.-Por que saliendo de un programa de Disney y creerse las maximas estrellas se ven ridiculos.

6.-Por que sus canciones tienen mu poca actividad cerebral, no son canciones mentalmente bien preparadas, simplemente son canciones hechas que para la ex, que para la novia actual y segun tambien para sus fans.

7.-Por que echaron a perder una cancion tan maravillosa como yesterday de The Beatles.

Mereka menemukan bahwa aerobik bisa meningkatkan kerja otak dan menambah volume jaringan pada otak. Selain aerobik, berjalan juga cukup efektif mengoptimalkan kerja otak.

Tips : Berjalanlah minimal 3 kali dalam satu minggu selama 50 menit. Tidak hanya membuat badan menjadi sehat, kerja otak Anda semakin maksimal.

2. Sikat gigi
Menurut tim dari “British psychiatrists and dentists”, kesehatan gigi dan mulut berhubungan langsung dengan kesehatan otak. Hal itu diketahui setelah tim melakukan survei pada orang berusia 20 hingga 59 tahun. Peneliti menemukan gingivitis dan penyakit gigi lain berefek buruk pada fungsi kognitif otak seseorang di kemudian hari.

Tips: Sikat gigi setiap Anda selesai makan. Jangan biarkan sisa makanan menempel di gigi karena bisa memicu lubang pada gigi.

3. Bermain puzzle
Anda bisa menemani anak Anda bermain puzzle atau bermain puzzle sendiri. Dengan menyusun puzzle Anda merangsang kemampuan kognitif otak. Percobaan yang dilakukan oleh tim peneliti dari University of Alabama yang melibatkan 3.000 lansia pria dan wanita, menunjukkan bahwa setelah bermain puzzle selama 60 hingga 75 menit otak bekerja lebih optimal.

Tips : Saat waktu senggang, bermainlah puzzle atau mengisi teka-teki silang. Kegiatan tersebut bisa memberikan tantangan pada otak Anda. Agar suasana seru, ajaklah pasangan, teman atau anak Anda.

4. Meditasi
Tidak hanya mengurangi stres dan tekanan pada pikiran, meditasi juga meningkatkan kerja lapisan korteks pada otak. Hal itu diketahui dari penelitian yang dilakukan tim dari Massachusetts General Hospital. Penelitian menunjukan seseorang yang sering bermeditasi kerja korteks lebih maksimal dibandingkan yang tidak bermeditasi.
Tips : Meditasi baiknya dilakukan 40 menit setiap hari, tetapi Anda bisa memulainya dengan bermeditasi selama 15 menit sebelum berangkat kerja. Duduk dengan posisi bersila, pejamkan mata, ambil nafas dalam-dalam dan buang secara perlahan.

5. Musik/Seni
Leonardo da Vinci berpikir dengan cara menyeimbangkan otak kiri (seni–>musik dll) dan otak kanan (pelajaran)… cara ini lebih memaksimal kan kinerja kedua otak sehingga semua menjadi seimbang dan tetap fokus.

6. Pola Makan Yang Baik
Berilah otakmu makanan yang mengandung anti oksidan dan omega 3 untuk memaksimalkan daya kerja saraf… sehingga otak mampu meningkatkan kinerjanya sampai kebatas maksimal.

7. Menggali Ingatan
Lihatlah kembali album foto lama atau buku tahunan sekolah anda. Otak anda adalah sebuah mesin ingatan, jadi biarkanlah ia bekerja supaya tidak berkarat. Ketika mendapat informasi yang baru, usahakan untuk membuat kaitan dengan informasi yang lama… Jadikanlah sesuatu yang telah kamu hafal sebagai tempat bergantung dan terus diulang tanpa harus melupakannya. 8. Kreativitas

Sloan—Pretty Together

Maybe it’s the fact that they are Canadian and American audiences just can’t stomach them, maybe their songwriting is just too saccharine for most American tastes—who knows. Whatever the reason, Sloan will never get what they deserve from America. The press will never acknowledge them (although their 2006 album Never Hear The End Of It did chart on CMJ’s Heatseekers list), the radio won’t play them, and their audience here will always be limited to whoever has the brains to listen to a college radio station every once in awhile. In truth, that’s okay for two reasons: One, it doesn’t make Sloan any less awesome; two, they are HUGE in their home country, so America can just go bugger off, already. Hasn’t everyone already figured out that Canada is a way cooler country than America anyway? They get free health care, their Jagermeister has opiates in it, and one of the best power pop bands of all time is commercially successful there. Seriously, America, take a hint! About the album, though…Pretty Together is one of Sloan’s best, and features all four of the group’s songwriters in top form. Unlike most Sloan records, this one finds the other members giving bassist Chris Murphy a dash for his songwriting cash. Drummer Andrew Scott’s “In the Movies” and “The Great Wall” just might be the two best tunes in his repertoire, and guitarist Patrick Pentland’s “If It Feels Good Do It” has become one of rock’s great morally ambiguous anthems. But most noticeably, guitarist Jay Ferguson really comes into his own on Pretty Together, offering up what is easily one its biggest standouts, the knockout power ballad “Dreaming of You”. Sloan may have reached their plateau with 1999’s Between the Bridges, but Pretty Together was created while they were still hanging around up there.

Super Furry Animals—Rings Around the World

This album really scared a lot of rock purists when it came out. When those of us who lived by the 90’s rock credo heard “Sidewalk Serfer Girl” for the first time, it became pretty apparent that everything was about to change. Actually, everything already had changed by that point; we were all just too stubborn to accept it. Rings Around the World helped us to accept it. After the initial scoffing and guffawing wore off, it was impossible to ignore how great this album was—not just how great it was, but how hard to dislike it was. Like a few of the records on this list, it is virtually perfect, though the varied styles of the album make that pretty arguable. One thing is for sure—Rings won’t really sink in until it is viewed on DVD, a rock and roll experience as close to phenomenal as one is likely to get. At the time, it was so phenomenal that SFA decided it had been a little too much, and toned it down halfway to nil for their next release. But, think of it hypothetically—your band makes an album that is revered as a potential “top 5 of the decade” type of record, and in a couple years, you have to follow it up with another? You try it.

Elliott Smith—From a Basement on the Hill
Anti-, 2004

To be straightforward, if ANY other Elliott Smith album had come out between the years of 2000 and 2009, it would have been on the list in place of this one. But, Basement should still be recognized and adored as an imperfect gem that, while unfinished, still retains the feeling of a true entry in the Elliott Smith progression. During sessions for the album, Smith was supposedly teaching himself how to record on the computer, the only recording medium he had yet to master. Aside from the album being compiled posthumously by Smith’s producer and his ex-girlfriend, it’s this wonder-boy-amateur approach that gives Basement its dusty, pastiche-like feel. The acoustic songs are classic nods to Smith’s early years, but the big rock numbers are something else entirely—specifically “Shooting Star”, which teams proggy guitar licks with a gigantic chorus of stumbling drums. Seriously, there have to be at least three drum sets going on at once in there (listen closely). This feeling of extreme density permeates the louder songs, most successfully on the totally junked out “Strung Out Again” and “King’s Crossing”, a wrenching ode to desperation. It might be somewhere behind Brian Wilson’s SMiLE on the aforementioned, forthcoming list of Could-Have-Beens, but Basement is still Elliott Smith, and Elliott Smith still rules.

Weil Tom Waits’ Reibeisenstimme klang, als gurgele er morgens mit Whisky und atme Luft ausschließlich durch filterlose Zigaretten, bewarfen ihn seine Zuhörer einst mit Obst und Gemüse. Sein neues Live-Album “Glitter & Doom” beweist, dass die Stimme zwar geblieben ist – dass Waits aber sein Publikum, dieses “wilde Tier”, inzwischen vollkommen beherrscht.

Schon auf seinem im Jahr 1973 erschienenen Debüt-Album “Closing Time” weckt Tom Waits unweigerlich Assoziationen an einen betrunkenen Barpianisten – ein Image, das er auch danach noch lange Zeit pflegte. Waits lehnte es von Beginn an ab, mit seinen Songs den Massengeschmack zu befriedigen – selbst den der Jugendkultur nicht. Angesagt waren zu jener Zeit Glam-Rocker wie Gary Glitter und Marc Bolan oder Prog-Rocker wie Mike Oldfield und Manfred Man.

Doch Tom Waits sang düstere, melancholische bis depressive Lieder über romantische Verlierer, die nachts zusammengesunken irgendwo in einer Kneipe rumhängen und über warmes Bier und kühle Frauen lamentieren. Seine Songs klangen wie Vertonungen des berühmten Edward-Hopper-Gemäldes “Nachtschwärmer”, auf dem drei einsame Barbesucher ohne jeden Bezug zueinander sinnlos ihre Zeit absitzen.

Obwohl die Zahl seiner Fans und der verkauften Platten klein blieb, passte sich der am 7. Dezember 1949 geborene Künstler nicht an. Während sich die in den 1980er Jahren alles dominierende Popmusik seicht und eingänglich präsentierte, begann Waits mit seinen “Found Sounds” (gefundenen Klängen) zu experimentieren: Er verwendete fortan auf seinen Alben Gegenstände, die er auf dem Müll gefunden und zu Instrumenten umgebaut hatte. Angeblich setzte ihn sein Label deshalb vor die Tür. Der Chef der Plattenfirma soll sein Album “Swordfishtrombones” (“Schwertfischposaunen”) für unverkäuflich befunden haben, nachdem er einige Demos gehört hatte.

Ausflüge zum Film

Doch Tom Waits blieb sich weiterhin treu. In den 1990er Jahren wurden er und seine Musik bekannter – was auch an einigen Nebenrollen in Filmen lag, die Waits etwa in “Down by Law” oder “König der Fischer” übernommen hatte. Der Sänger hätte seine Popularität leicht weiter steigern können, indem er nur ein paar Alben mehr veröffentlicht und einige Konzerte zusätzlich gegeben hätte.

Stattdessen ließ Waits zwischen seinem 1992er Album “Black Rider” und seinem Album “Mule Variations” sieben Jahre verstreichen. Auf Tour ging er in dieser Zeit nicht und auch danach trat er nur sehr sporadisch auf. Dies könnte ein Grund dafür sein, dass Tom Waits in seiner inzwischen fast 40-jährigen Musikerkarriere keinen Nummer-1-Hit landen konnte. Obwohl sein Name inzwischen längst sehr bekannt ist, schaffte es noch keines seiner Alben in die Top-Ten der Charts.

Hassliebe gegenüber dem Publikum

Seine Aversion gegen Tourneen hat vor allem zwei Gründe: Zum einen hat er keine Lust, seine Familie über Monate hinweg nicht sehen zu können, zum anderen hat er schon seit dem Beginn seiner Karriere ein sehr schwieriges Verhältnis zu seinen Anhängern. Die Hassliebe entstand, als ihn sein erster Manager Herb Cohen im Vorprogramm von Frank Zappa & the Mother of Invention auf Tour schickte. Beim Publikum kam er damals nicht gut an.

“Sie kamen und schmissen Obst und Gemüse auf mich”, sagte er einmal. Seitdem sei das Publikum für ihn ein wildes Tier, das man nicht zu häufig füttern sollte, wie er einmal in einem “Spiegel”-Interview sagte. Und außerdem: “Lange Tourneen, der ganze Stress mit Hotels und fremden Menschen machen mich nur noch mürrischer. Und ich bin auch so schon oft sehr finster gelaunt.”

Abschied vom Barpianisten-Image

Wie gut, dass sich der fast 60-jährige Künstler im vergangenen Jahr doch überwinden konnte und auf Tournee ging. Denn so ist sein 23. Album “Glitter & Doom Live” entstanden – ein Mitschnitt in exzellenter Tonqualität der ausverkauften Tour, die Waits durch die Vereinigten Staaten und Europa führte. Die erste der beiden CDs enthält 17 Lieder, die fast alle im Verlauf der vergangenen 20 Jahren schon einmal veröffentlicht worden sind. Waits hat sie bei verschiedenen Auftritten während seiner Tour gesungen. Allerdings sind sie so gut zusammengeschnitten, dass es klingt, als handele es sich um die Aufnahme eines einzigen Konzerts.

Nur der Song “Live Circus” ist neu – ein Waits-typisches Spoken-Word-Stück mit leichter, musikalischer Untermalung, wie er sie schon in den 1970ern am Barpiano zum Besten gab. Die übrigen Lieder stammen in der Mehrzahl von den beiden Alben “Bone Machine” und “Real Gone” aus den Jahren 1992 und 2004, die wichtige Eckpunkte in Waits Karriere markieren. Auf “Bone Machine” begann er, sich von seinem “Betrunkener-Barpianisten-Image” zu verabschieden, und auf “Real Gone” ist er beim alten Delta-Blues und den Wurzeln des American Folks angelangt. Auf diesem Album verzichtete er erstmals komplett auf das Piano, das bis dahin so charakteristisch für seine Musik war.

Die zweite CD von “Glitter & Doom Live” ist ein reines Spoken-Word-Album, auf dem die vielen skurrilen Geschichten zu hören sind, die Waits auf der Bühne gerne zwischen den Liedern erzählt.

Gedanken an eine Durchfahrtsstraße

Auf seinem neuen Album präsentiert sich Tom Waits in Bestform. Der “Klabautermann des Röchel-Blues”, wie ihn die Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung einmal genannt hat, faucht, krächzt und jault sich durch seine Texte, in denen er bisweilen Geschichten von am Straßenrand verlorenen Träumen erzählt. Dazu Musik, die klingt, als habe Waits Blues, Rock’n'Roll, Jazz, Gospel oder Zirkusmusik in einen Sack gepackt, diesen lange genug geschüttelt und zu Guter letzt noch mit aller Kraft darauf herumgetrampelt. Heraus kommt Waits eigener, kaputt-klingender Sound, der so wunderbar mit seiner Reibeisenstimme harmoniert.

Zwischendrin ist immer mal wieder eine dieser Waits-typischen, brüchigen Balladen versteckt, wie das großartige “Fannin Street”, das Waits ursprünglich John Hammond jr., dem Sohn der Blueslegende John Hammond, für dessen Album “Get Wicked” überließ, und das Waits für sein 2006 erschienenes Album “Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards” dann doch noch aufnahm. Vermutlich hat noch nie jemand in der Musikgeschichte solch überdrüssige Gedanken über eine Durchfahrtsstraße in der texanischen Großstadt Houston gesponnen, wie Waits in diesem Lied.

Keine Hoffnung mehr auf Sonnenschein

Überhaupt der Blues: Der findet sich ziemlich häufig auf “Glitter & Doom Live”. Zum Beispiel “Get behind the mule”, Waits’ ganz eigene Verbeugung vor dem König des Delta Blues, Robert Johnson. Waits erklärte dazu einmal, dass das Lied von dem inspiriert worden sei, was Johnsons Vater einst über seinem Sohn gesagt haben soll: “Das Problem mit Robert ist, dass er morgens einfach nicht hinter sein Maultier kommt, um zu pflügen.”

Flotter geht es dann bei “Goin’ out West” vom 1992er Album “Bone Machine” zu. Ein manischer Bluesrock, bei dem es schwer fällt, sich seinem stumpfen und stampfenden Rhythmus zu entziehen und der den Hörer zwangsläufig in seinen Sog zieht. Eine Wirkung, die Waits Beschwörung “Make it Rain” vom “Real Gone”-Album noch wesentlich stärker entfaltet. Nach diesem Lied hofft niemand mehr auf Sonnenschein. Und mit “I’ll be back some lucky Day” beschließt Waits das Album mit einer Ballade, die wirklich jedes noch nicht versteinerte Herz berühren muss.

Kaum Überraschungen

Insgesamt enthält “Glitter & Doom Live” wenig Neues. Fans kennen die meisten Lieder bereits, wie das bei den meisten Live-Alben der Fall ist. Dennoch steht Waits nicht im Verdacht, sich mit der Veröffentlichung nur eine zusätzliche, leichte Einnahmequelle erschließen zu wollen. Es lohnt sich, das Album zu kaufen, und dafür sorgt Waits selbst. Er präsentiert seine Lieder live in leicht veränderter Form und trägt sie mit einer Innbrunst vor, die man von den Studioalben so nicht kennt.

Doch die überraschendste Erkenntnis des Live-Albums ist: Der fast 60 Jahre alte Waits ist noch immer ein großartiger Dompteur, der das Publikum, dieses wilde Tier, unter Kontrolle hat, mehr noch: der es begeistert und verzückt, wie der Szenenapplaus, der immer wieder mitten in den einzelnen Stücken aufbrandet, beweist. Schade, dass Waits das Tier nur noch so selten füttern will, zumindest in Deutschland. Hier trat er das letzte Mal im November 2004 in die Manege. Es wird langsam mal wieder Zeit.

It seems there are a lot of people out there, mainly older people although there are a few young people on this insane band-wagon, who are against both technology and technological advancement. They are stubborn to the core about their beliefs to the point that they will not even allow you to argue with them, often interrupting you or changing the subject to avoid having their beliefs challenged. These people represent a dying breed of relics from the past trapped in a mindset denser than stone. According to the techno-haters, technology has “taken over and is thinking for us” This article is aimed at those people, although I believe the people like us – that’s the reasonable and rational people – will get a good kick out of this too.

Let’s start with the “gadgets” technology. This would include things like cellphones with mp3 players, web browsing, cameras, etc or onboard computers in cars along with GPS navigators and the like. I’ve heard a lot of criticism for these things since, unfortunately for me, I live with a technology hater who’s also a purist. I grant that GPS – provided you can use the fsucking thing – does negate the need for reading a map book, but is that a bad thing? I’ve seen many drivers trying to read a map book lying on the passenger seat whilst trying to drive. Now that’s an accident waiting to happen. As far as the augmentation of cellular phones is concerned, the implementation of a camera was very good practical thinking. You don’t take your camera everywhere but you do take your cellphone. How many good photo opportunities were missed before this idea? As for web browsing, it’s very convenient knowing that one can look up some important information on the go rather than having to seek the nearest internet café and pay ten times what the cost of the data fees would have been to look it up or, god forbid, make a trip down to the library which entails looking through countless reference books to even find a scrap of information on what you’re looking for. Finally, built-in mp3 players. This is the best idea yet. You no longer need to purchase an mp3 player on top of the costs of the phone and you get to listen to music anywhere. What’s so bad about that?

Now we’ll tackle the issue of computers themselves. I’ve heard all kinds of things besides “destroying our humanity”, “thinking for us”, “making us stupid”, “destroying literacy” and “computers are evil” but we’ll deal with these ones for now. All the relics of the past perceive computers as toys. Well, as a writer of a book and several short stories, I’d disagree as I find it very disconcerting writing on paper. I haven’t got a fancy set up because I use my PC predominantly for writing, and watching/reading things. I play few games these days because I’m somewhat disappointed in the gaming industry over the last two years so my computer is definitely, to quote Geoffrey Leonard, “not, not NOT!” a toy.

As far as “destroying our humanity”, I’d like to point out that people who spend large amounts of time in front of a computer were anti-social to begin with. At least now they have an outlet. Prior to computers, these are the types of people who would have become obsessive above something else, reading books perhaps or maybe building figures out of soapstone – who knows? The point I’m making is that a person is anti-social to begin with; computers did not make them so and these machines are merely a more popular outlet in modern times. People who claim “internet addiction” or “computer addiction” are a bunch of sad morons who crave attention and would have found a different “addiction” were they born before the advent of computers.

Computers do not “think for us” except if the user is a complete moron and merely follows the computer’s instructions (and in that case, it’s just as well he/she doesn’t try to think for themselves). I realise that calculators have made us lazy and spell-checkers have made it a lot easier to proofread things, but is that bad? Since when is accomplishing a task the easy way automatically the wrong way? I am a firm believer that the means are irrelevant so long as the ends are the same (Providing it isn’t harmful to anybody of course). Secondly, on the subject of spell-checkers, they are not always accurate and quite often require the user to think for him/herself. Now before I hear anymore about “oh but computers keep databases and we don’t think, we just type in numbers at the work place” etc, let me point out that there is no difference between having a shelf full of paper files or a database except the access speed. The only thing that has changed is that now the user doesn’t have to manually search for the file. I didn’t know being good at looking for files on a shelf was such a note-worthy ability.

“Making us stupid” is a favourite of mine and actually relates a lot to the paragraph above. Let me just explain “stupid” here. A person is, as far as we know, born stupid (Although there are schools of thought that tend towards the idea that upbringing and stimulus during infancy plays a large role in mental development). Just because we no longer have to sit for hours to plot a graph or calculate a problem doesn’t mean we can’t if needs must. All it means is: why the fsuck should we? So, let’s get our terminology right here. Computers do not make us “stupid”, they make us “lazy”. Good, I’m a lazy person and proud of it. I won’t hold back when it comes to stuff like hygiene (personal or other) on account of my laziness; that would make me a slob. A slob is somebody whose laziness has taken control of them and led them to live in a manner which, viewed by most sane people, is disgusting. The interesting thing you relics reading this article may want to know is that lazy people and slobs existed as far back as the cavemen.

I love this one: “destroying literacy”. That’s just golden. “Literacy” has been under threat since the advent of motion pictures and comic books. Just as an aside, the word “literacy” actually refers to the ability to read, which computers, if anything, have aided and encouraged. For some reason people associate “literacy” with the interest in books and while the two are related, they are not mutually inclusive. Now, bearing in mind that television has done more to destroy the interest in books than computers ever did, I’d like to point out that the internet has given rise to many communities of readers and writers around the world who discuss books they like, exchange poetry and even post entire novels for their fellow readers/writers to judge. One could go so far as to say that the internet is actually the beginning of a sort of semi cyber-renaissance.

As for “computers are evil”, I’m tempted not to even dignify that with a response but I will, just for fun. First of all, there is no such thing as an evil inanimate object. An inanimate object is only as good or evil as the person using it (weapons included). I mean if you allow for the idea of inanimate objects being evil, you could start calling rocks evil too because they can be used to kill with. Think about it. Secondly, if computers are so evil, then why so many religious groups have websites these days? Have you seen the number of Christian sites out there (*Shudder*)? Yes, it’s very easy to call something evil if it inconveniences your group by enlightening the ignorant and causing them to start asking questions. Television and science were considered evil once upon a time (although there are some sects who maintain this belief even today – very sad). Thirdly, I’d like to know how many people out there screaming “computers are evil” have ever had to go to hospital in their lives because hospitals run on computers as do all those life-saving machines they use.

Finally, I’m going on an all-out attack here…

“The rise of computers has caused piracy”. No, it’s increased it and made it easier but piracy is as old as the first artist who learned to copy another artist’s painting precisely. Piracy became very popular with the advent of the cassette tape and people have been doing it in abundance since long before computers were a standard household item or the advent of the internet.

“The internet has made child pornography so rife”. Wrong! Before the internet was around, it was still going on just as much. The only difference was that it was done behind closed doors. Be grateful to the internet because at least now when some idiot uploads a picture of him with his penis in a kid, it gets out there and there’s some, little as it may be, chance of tracing it and apprehending him.

“The only significant contribution the internet has ever made is that it has given credibility to the uninformed opinion” – Michael Crichton. A little right but very wrong. The web has given credibility to many uniformed opinions, you just have to look at many of the blogs out there (not this one though, lol) to realise this. But then again, are the history books any better? History books have been written in a very subjective fashion for centuries now. Here’s just one example: In South Africa under apartheid, history books actually contained dreamed up facts and outright lies intermingled with the odd truth that was, of course, manipulated to suit the government. What it actually boils down to is the individual’s ability to be discerning. If you believe everything you read without researching it, be it a book or a blog, then you’re an idiot. As far as “making no contributions” is concerned, the internet has allowed many very informed people to collaborate online. It has allowed the truth to reach a lot of people living under isolated regimes. The net has allowed us to meet people from diverse cultures and backgrounds and gain better human understanding. It has made research quicker and easier than before and has helped the average man expand his mind. It has even brought romance to the lives of countless people who may have otherwise died alone (I knew a guy who married a girl he met online).

“Computers are used for fraud and all kinds of other crimes that would have otherwise been impossible”. That is a good point; sadly it is a very one-sided take on things. All levels of progress involve negative side effects. From the first monkey that picked up a bone and used it as a club to the first book ever published. Yes, even books had negative side effects like the rise of fanatic religions or how about non-graphic pornography? There were plenty of insane and filthy publications out there at one stage (Although there still are a fair share today). The knife, while a brilliant tool, has spilled more blood than can be counted. The brilliant form of transport, the aeroplane, is an integral part of war. Nuclear energy is responsible for the most awesome destructive force ever unleashed on the planet. The list goes on.

Let’s just look at everything on the whole. If there was no technology, there’d be no television, no books, no medicine, no hygiene, no transport, no defence from the elements and no civilisation. We’d be running around killing each other (more so than we do today), nobody would be safe and we’d all be dying at ages of 30 – 40 years. We’d have no knowledge of the cosmos. We’d never ponder existence. Why? Because creativity, to a greater or lesser degree, exists in us all and it is creativity that gives us the ability to question. Creativity and technological advancement are inseparably interwoven because technological advancement is a by-product of creativity and technological advancement is also the inspiration for a lot of creativity.

Just to clear things up, I’d like to say that I’m not all pro-technology. I will happily concede that there is an overwhelming amount of frivolous technology out there. But just because it is new and it is a “gadget” does not automatically make it bad, neither does the fact that it saves time or effort. I also admit that I’m a rampant “consumer”. But I’m a discerning one too. I do not automatically want it because it is latest or because it is the best. I do, however, want it if it has features that I have a genuine use for. I would also like to admit that I often see new technology in development or just being released and I say to myself “No!” because I too do not wish to see my world erased by that of the next generation. Sadly, it is inevitable.

Luckily there will always exist in society, an element that respects the past and the origins of what they have today. It is that sect of the populace that protect and preserve each previous generation’s styles, music and movies.

What I’m ultimately getting at is that we should not fear change and we should not scorn the past. We must embrace both sides of everything for balance is the only way any intelligent person can live. Anything else simply reflects ignorance and lack of understanding.

EW YORK (Press Release)–Reacting to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) annual report documenting hate crimes in America, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Monday called for “a coordinated campaign to prevent, deter, and respond effectively to criminal violence motivated by bigotry and prejudice.” The FBI statistics revealed that reported hate crimes are at their highest level since 2001.

Robert G. Sugarman, ADL National Chair, and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:
 
“Hate violence in America is a serious national problem that shows little sign of slowing. The annual FBI report on hate crime statistics provides a chance to assess the scope of the problem.
 
“It is disturbing that in 2008, as our country elected its first African-American President, the FBI report tallied 7,783 bias-motivated incidents – the highest total since 2001, including the highest number of crimes directed at Blacks, Jews, and gay men and lesbians since 2001.
 
“While the increase in the number of hate crimes may be partially attributed to improved reporting, the fact that these numbers remain elevated – particularly the significant rise in the number of victims selected on the basis of religion or sexual orientation – should be of concern to every American.
 
“With data comes awareness and accountability – which must lead to action.  Too frequently we have seen that failure to address bias crimes can cause an isolated incident to fester and result in widespread community tensions.
 
“We believe the time is right for a coordinated campaign to prevent, deter, and respond effectively to criminal violence motivated by bigotry and prejudice – including training on the provisions of the new Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act (HCPA), more vigorous enforcement of existing laws, and anti-bias education and anti-bullying programs for schools and communities.”
 
The 2008 FBI hate crime data documented 7,783 hate crimes in 2008 – the highest national total since 2001 and a two percent increase over the 7,624 hate crimes reported in 2007. The report documented more than 1,519 religion-based crimes (also the highest total since 2001), with 1,013 of them – over 66 percent – directed against Jews and Jewish institutions. 

More law enforcement agencies than ever (13,690) participated in this year’s data collection effort, though more than 4,000 agencies did not report. Of the agencies that did file reports, nearly85% affirmatively reported zero hate crimes in their jurisdiction.

ADL has led federal and state advocacy efforts for improved responses to hate violence. Forty-five states and the District of Columbia have enacted hate crime statutes based on or similar to the ADL model. In 1993, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously upheld a Wisconsin hate crimes statute based on the ADL model. In October 2009, President Obama signed into law the HCPA, which provides for expanded federal involvement in investigating and prosecuting hate violence in America.

The FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics report has become the single most important national source of information about the problem of hate violence in America and an essential resource for criminologists, policymakers, and analysts. Resistant strain discovered in Cardiff hospital, prompting concern among health officials

guardian.co.uk/Owen Bowcott—Doctors in Wales have discovered a Tamiflu-resistant strain of swine flu that has been spreading from patient to patient in a Cardiff hospital.

The emergence of an easily transmissible, resistant strain is a worrying development for health officials and appears to be the first documented case in Europe.

Five patients at University Hospital Wales, in Cardiff, were infected and isolated for treatment. All had severe underlying conditions that left them with weakened immune systems. At least three had acquired the infection in hospital.

There have been a handful of reported cases from around the world of Tamiflu-resistant strains of the H1N1 virus. Only one previous case, at a US summer camp, however, involved person-to-person transmission.

The Cardiff patients have been treated with an alternative anti-viral drug. Two have recovered and been discharged and three others remain in hospital, one in intensive care.

Dr Roland Salmon, the director of the communicable disease surveillance center in Wales, said: “The emergence of [H1N1] viruses that are resistant to Tamiflu is not unexpected in patients with serious underlying conditions and suppressed immune systems, who still test positive for the virus despite treatment.“

“In this case, the resistant strain of swine flu does not appear to be any more severe than the swine flu virus that has been circulating since April.“

“For the vast majority of people, Tamiflu has proved effective in reducing the severity of illness. Vaccination remains the most effective tool we have in preventing swine flu so I urge people identified as being at risk to look out for their invitation to be vaccinated by their GP surgery.“

Any spread of a Tamiflu-resistant strain of the virus into the community would constitute a serious public health concern. The government recently reminded those who caught swine flu to take Tamiflu as a first line of medical defense.

 For a racist organization who routinely mocks the marches,protest, and boycotts organized by the Reverend Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton that they pattern after the Civil Rights protest organized by the late Rev.Martin Luther King,Jr. , they sure are acting a lot like the legendary iconic African-American freedom fighters, with all of their marching and protesting this week.

The protest staged by Dr. King  proved to be  effective in defeating the Klan in the 60’s.

The Klan,just this past week, held two days worth of rallies in Kennett,Missouri in protest of the Heather Ellis versus Wal-Mart case.

…and on Saturday they held a rally outside the Ole Miss vs. LSU game in protest of Ole Miss dropping  the lyrics and fight song ”Dixie”  from being chanted at their games.

Chancellor Dan Jones had ordered students to stop chanting the homage to the states racist past. After they continued chanting, he ordered the song From Dixie with Love to cease being played.

The Ku Klux Klan came out to rally in lieu of the chant “The South Will Rise Again.”

The medley, combining “Dixie” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” was often followed by shouts of “The South shall rise again.”…reports the UPI.

Charise Van Horn of the Examiner.com reports…Chancellor Jones sent an address to the student body of the University of Mississippi. It reads, “We cannot even appear to support those outside our community who advocate a revival of segregation. Consequently, I have asked the band not to play ‘From Dixie with Love’ at upcoming athletics events. The counter protesters outnumbered the klan 10-1 on Saturday, and their ranks included faculty,staff,students, citizens, and alumnae.

They all read  the student creed aloud, including a call for belief in “the dignity of each person.”

“Our major concern was to show that this is what we stand for as a university,” said Artair Rogers, the Associated Student Body president.

Ole Miss, fueled by the insults from the klan, defeated the game LSU 25-23 in the historic rivalry.

From the looks of things, the klan needed to be on the sideline helping the LSU coach manage his time a lot better than he did, with those last three plays, as he messed up an easy field goal kick with his loopy clock management and ultra-strange play calling at the end.

I mean,LSU fans…didn’t you expect your team to kick a game winning field goal with that last play, rather than the one they ran to lose the game? …Seemed to me to be a pretty easy play to call, and you would have won that game.

I think, as I have been pondering that play all night,…maybe, just maybe, the LSU coach did not want to actually win the game, as it would have been celebrated as a win for the Klan, instead of what it would have been, just a win against Ole Miss.

Who knows, but that had to be the case, because that call was just as bad as the one coach Bill Belicheck made last week, to lose the game against Indy and Peyton Manning….it had to be something like that!

The Klan will never learn.They always support the losing side, and the failed causes like racism and the defeated and humiliated Confederacy that their ancestors supported with their lives.

Many of their ancestors did foolishly in their futile attempt to preserve slavery here in America, and if the scorched earth of General Sherman’s march did not convince them, them they all are truly ignorant and insane.

I watched this game between these two great institutions that at one time denied black players a chance to compete on their teams,…but all that is in the past.

Someone needs to let the klan know that.

The Grand Dragon of the Klan Shane Tate stated that …”We aren’t coming there to cause problems or cause trouble. Trouble has already been caused by a handful at Ole Miss, including the black student body president, who wants to shape Ole Miss into yet another liberal sodomite college.”

What is a sodomite college…together these words mean nothing!…I find this statement to be whimsical and nonsensical, much like gibberish.

Gibberish sounds like a fair  description of the Klan.

Evenin Folks.

So, its that time again… you know, the time after the xfactor kids have sang and before voting… i hate this time. i hate waiting… although, today, wow they mostly sucked. and thats sucked sucked. the suckiest of sucking.

except for one person. Joe. can he get any better?! I think so. hes now the only contestant in the history of xfactor that has managed to get me to sit through their whole performance without saying a single word.

and as if his voice wasnt good enough, he just has to go and be pretty good looking AND it seems like he has an amaising personality too!

I want/need a Joe… maybe both.

ahhh sad times.

wow everyones so quiet tonight. its so weird. lonely much? so im just sat on my bed listening to Evanescence… weird how much im into them at the moment… not a bad thing though realy.

I think i should stop watching X Factor… i eat to much when I watch it… today, while watching, I ate a Pizza, a bag of microwave popcorn, a family size bag of maltesars and a big slice of chocolate cake… its just not good… x factor is like some kinda of anti diet.

soooo… lol… im off now, but its possible that I may blog later, who knows, it all depends where the cookie crum blows…

Here is the Ku Klux Klan Protest at the University of Mississippi, pretty much in its entirety. There is plenty of great heckling throughout this video. My favorite is when a little girl says, “You are just standing there. Think of what you could be doing if you weren’t just standing there.”

The lead heckler who can be seen in the video leading the “Go to Hell, KKK” chant said at one point, “I hope a tornado destroys your trailer.” I did not get that on video though.

I am a grad student in Southern Studies at Ole Miss and I have never seen a Protest like this, except on television. I was struck by how toothless the KKK is. They are totally useless here except for being a great target for ridicule. Even the black students in attendance didn’t seem the least bit concerned and most of the people just seemed to look on as if it were a free carnival freak show.

The protest was supposed to be a silent demonstration, so it was strange to see the Klan get clearly aggitated by the taunts of the crowd and then to respond with what was clearly unrehearsed banter. At one point some one called them stupid and a guy in a red hood said, “not as stupid as you.” I thought maybe they would at least show more discipline than that. I guess not. Perhaps they thought they would get more support than they did, so they stayed there for only a few minutes.

Some students and faculty held an anti-hate counter rally that had more participants than the Klan did. The people of the school are concerned about the image this sends to the rest of the nation. But it is important to remember that none of this would be happening if there weren’t still a very strong racial sentiment at least among the alumni and undergrads that is promoted with coded language that refers to “Southern heritage” and “Tradition,” etc.
