<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="http://albymen.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/heart.jpg"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1411" title="heart" src="http://albymen.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/heart.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="298" /></a><strong>HEART</strong> è il nome del nuovo lavoro di <strong>Elisa</strong>, che arriva dopo ben 5 anni dal suo ultimo album d’inediti (<em>Pearl Days</em>) e dopo 3 dalla fortunatissima raccolta <em>Soundtrack ‘96-’06</em>.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">14 brani, di cui un paio in italiano, una cover e due con ospiti illustri, che rappresentano un nuovo punto di partenza per la cantautrice di Monfalcone, pur rimanendo fedele al sound e alle influenze artistiche che hanno caratterizzato la sua lunga carriera.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">L&#8217;album si apre con la coinvolgente <em><strong>Vortexes</strong></em>, un pop rock sostenuto dove la voce di Elisa regala i primi brividi svettando fra violini e suggestioni elettroniche. Segue l&#8217;ottima <em><strong>And All I Need</strong></em> e <em><strong>Anche Se Non Trovi Le Parole</strong></em>, uno dei brani in italiano più riusciti della cantante e sicuro tormentone radiofonico.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">L&#8217;album prosegue, poi, alternando episodi rock che ci restituiscono una Elisa grintosa, come in<em><strong> This Knot</strong></em> e <em><strong>Your Manifesto </strong></em>(decisamente più riuscita la prima della seconda), ad altri &#8211; più numerosi &#8211; caratterizati da sound più delicati e sognanti, come <em><strong>Someone To Love </strong></em>e <em><strong>Poems By God</strong></em>.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Fra i brani migliori, l&#8217;intensa <em><strong>Mad World</strong></em>, cover dei Tears For Fears (qui riproposta in una versione più vicina a quella presente nella colonna sonora di &#8220;Donnie Darko&#8221;) che la cantautrice aveva già eseguito nello show Mechanical Dream e l&#8217;onirica <em><strong>The Big Dipper</strong></em>, dove Elisa riporta in primo piano l&#8217;amore per l&#8217;elettronica e le atmosfere alla Björk.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">La vetta dell&#8217;album è però, senza dubbio, <em><strong>Forgiveness</strong></em>: emozionante duetto con Antony Hegarty (degli Antony and the Johnsons) dove le due voci, così diverse nel loro essere soul, si fondono cantando il grande tema del perdono.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Non tutto funziona in questo album: c&#8217;è qualche lungaggine di troppo (sia nella scaletta che nella durata di alcune canzoni, come ad esempio <em><strong>Lisert</strong></em> che resta soffocata dagli oltri 6 minuti di durata), l&#8217;orrendo episodio di <em><strong>Ti Vorrei Sollevare</strong></em> (primo singolo con Giuliano Sangiorgi dei Negramaro di cui vi ho parlato <a href="http://albymen.wordpress.com/2009/10/23/elisa-feat-giuliano-sangiorgi-ti-vorrei-sollevare/" target="_blank">QUI</a>)  e il progetto non sembra essere pienamente focalizzato nella sua interezza.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Tuttavia, questo <strong>Heart</strong> è un album solido e coerente: la conferma, se ce ne fosse stato ancora bisogno, delle grandi capacità di Elisa come compositrice ed interprete.  Un termine, quello scelto come titolo, davvero azzeccatissimo: qui il <em>cuore</em> c&#8217;è davvero. E palpita forte.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p style="text-align:justify;">Ci è arrivata oggi la triste notizia che nell&#8217;ultimo, probabilmente inutile* album dell&#8217;ormai pausinizzatissima Elisa compare Antony Hegarty. Per la signorina Toffoli, questo featuring (nel brano &#8220;Forgiveness&#8221;) è forse uno dei momenti più luminosi della carriera. Sempre che se ne renda conto. Del resto, anche lei fa parte di quella categoria di artisti che sanno passare con disinvoltura da collaborazioni con produttori internazionali eccellenti (Howie B, Glen Ballard) ai più infimi figuri di casa nostra (Giuliano Sangiorgi, Ligabue, il Maestro Tommassini). Ci sarebbe anche da citare quella volta in cui <a title="ElisaVenditti" href="http://www.rockol.it/news-30668/Elisa---Ho-detto-no-a-Antonello-Venditti--" target="_blank">disse no a Venditti</a> &#8211; che coraggiosa! &#8211; ma poi ristabilì il suo livello di mediocrità facendosi scrivere qualche verso da Zucchero.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Ma torniamo ad Antony. Ebbene, ve ne sarete accorti, anche lui è <a href="http://poptopoi.wordpress.com/2009/07/07/syria-una-donna-sfaccettatissima/" target="_blank">sfaccettatissimo</a>! Come illustrato nel grafico seguente (lo trovate più grosso <a href="http://twitpic.com/pe55v" target="_blank">qui</a>), nel corso degli ultimi sei anni, Antony ha collezionato un bel po&#8217; di collaborazioni (e non le ho nemmeno inserite tutte). La sua assurda parabola parte in grande stile, ci regala alcune vere perle,  guadagna prestigiosi premi&#8230; E poi scade nel ridicolo.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Sembrava andare tutto bene finché non compare un&#8217;imprevista variabile, una rovinosa mutazione, una suina creativa. La chiameremo &#8220;Antony&#8217;s Stivale Anomaly&#8221;: appena il cantante si avvicina alla nostra penisola, sfiora il suicidio artistico. I primi sintomi di <em>débacle</em> appaiono nel 2008, anno in cui Frengo Battiato invita Antony a cantare &#8220;Del Suo Veloce Volo&#8221;, ovvero una sua b-side completamente riscritta in italiano per <em>Fleurs 2</em>. Con la scusa che tanto Antony la nostra lingua non la mastica, Frengo si burla di lui usandolo come canale per raccontare <a href="http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&#38;friendId=300008578&#38;blogId=444174753" target="_blank">un suo curioso aneddoto</a>:</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Leggendo la mano di un amico avevo visto la data della sua prossima morte. Mi auguravo fosse una sciocchezza. E, invece, purtroppo è andata proprio così.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Immaginiamoci Battiato in tenuta da Divino Otelma (magari accompagnato dal fedele <em>sidekick </em>Sgalambro travestito da Mago Oronzo) mentre predice la morte di questo povero disgraziato entrando in contatto con lo spirito di chissà quale pensatore della dinastia Ming. Frequentare queste fattucchiere siciliane non avrà certamente giovato al fragile Antony, che infatti s&#8217;impelaga poco dopo in un kitschissimo esperimento di marketing per la Sony. La Lavazza gli fa cantare <a href="http://www.lavazza2010.com/lavazza2010/en/brano" target="_blank">&#8220;Nessun Dorma&#8221;</a> e condisce il tutto con un terribile servizio fotografico in cui l&#8217;artista viene ritratto come una vecchia zia eccentrica (o, ancora meglio, una Contessa Miseria, volendo citare un&#8217;altra siciliana) che m&#8217;immagino a leggere i fondi delle tazzine di caffè in una casa piena di ninnoli e acquasantiere. Insomma, sarà che su di me l&#8217;opera ha sempre avuto l&#8217;effetto di un clistere con l&#8217;acido muriatico, ma di questo &#8220;progetto artistico&#8221; se ne poteva onestamente fare a meno.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Ed eccoci giunti alla data odierna, non certo la più fortunata sul curriculum di Antony, dato che l&#8217;attempata<em> </em> maitresse dal caschetto d&#8217;oro gli ha dato il benvenuto nel suo esclusivo bordello Sugar. Si riconferma la Stivale Anomaly per il nostro beniamino.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Antony, dacci retta, sta&#8217; lontano dal tricolore, evitalo come la peste. Vieni giusto a fare due concerti d&#8217;estate e, se vedi avvicinarsi <a href="http://poptopoi.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/marrazzo.jpg" target="_blank">un rassicurante tipo brizzolato</a>, scappa più veloce che puoi.</p>

Bu küçük zevkin her bir anının tadını olabildiğince çıkarmak için&#8230;&#8221; diyor Lavazza. Ve gelenekselleşmiş takvim projesinin yanına bu kez de müzikal bir proje ekliyor. Bunun için kendi deyimleriyle en sofistike seslerden Antony Hegarty&#8217;yi (Antony and the Johnsons) seçiyor.</p>
<p>Antony Hegarty, kahve firması için; bir Puccini klasiği &#8216;Nessun Dorma&#8217;yı yeniden yorumluyor. Üstelik kendi tercihiyle İtalyanca olarak&#8230; Roma Senfoni Orkestrası eşliğinde Antony Hegarty&#8217;den &#8216;Nessun Dorma&#8217;yı dinlemek isteyenler <a href="http://www.lavazza2010.com/lavazza2010/en/brano">burayı</a> tıklasın.</p>
<p>Francesca Lavazza&#8217;nın müzik ve kahve ile ilgili söylediklerini de buraya not edelim: &#8220;Müzik ve kahve birbiriyle bağlantılı temalardır. En az 6 bin şarkının başlığında bile kahve kelimesinin kullanılıyor olması bunun için yeterli ispattır. Sherly Crow ve Bob Dylan gibi büyük sanatçılar bir fincan kahveye teşekkür etmekle ilgili şarkılar yazmışlardır.&#8221; </p>
<p>Fotoğrafçı Miles Aldridge&#8217;in objektifinden Lavazza takviminin karelerini görmek isteyenler yazının devamını tıklayabilirler. Ama açıkçası çekimlerin beni çok da etkilediğini söyleyemem. İşin müzik kısmı çok daha başarılı olmuş&#8230;</p>

Atenció que ningú et pregunta per el millor <em>sui generi</em> sinó que et demana de posar-ne un de cada. M&#8217;encanta perquè va molt més a gustos, perquè et deixen posar a un paquete que, però, et diu alguna cosa i no saps què o simplement aprecies. M&#8217;ha interessat molt posar a l&#8217;Atenes 5 músics, simplement. Aquí els tenen, de més vell a més jove:</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Buddy Guy</strong>, nord-americà, per mi el millor bluesman de tots els temps. No tan sols té un so i una tècnica molt personals i desbordants de talent musical sinó que té una veu potent i versàtil. Mestre de mestres, sap transmetre energia sigui en cançons molt potents així com en temes calmadíssims. La meva cançó preferida de <strong>Buddy Guy</strong> és <a href="http://www.goear.com/listen/5457a43/I-go-crazy-Buddy-Guy"><em>I go crazy</em></a>.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><img class="alignnone" src="http://www.heinekenjazzaldia.com/wp-content/gallery/24_2008/bobby_mcferrin.jpg" alt="" width="288" height="192" /></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Bobby McFerrin</strong>, nord-americà, és un vocalista amb influències del jazz complet, dinàmic, és un  experimentat experimentador i improvisador. A la seva veu li ha fet fer tot el que ha pogut i més, acompanyant-se de autopercussió. A més, ha acompanyat a grans artistes com <strong>Chick Corea</strong> &#8211; un monstre, també &#8211; i l&#8217;<strong>Richard Bona</strong>, entre d&#8217;altres. La meva cançó preferida &#8211; en aquest cas una versió &#8211; de <strong>Bobby McFerrin</strong> és <a href="http://www.goear.com/listen/2b5ee88/Blue-Bossa-Bobby-McFerrin-&#38;-Chick-Corea"><em>Blue bossa</em></a>, interpretada junt amb <strong>Chick Corea</strong>.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Stevie Ray Vaughan</strong>, nord-americà, és per mi el millor guitarrista de la història per tenir l&#8217;estil més ric i potent que he sentit mai. També és el meu bluesman blanc preferit, tot i que el seu estil tingui tan a veure amb el rock. Fou una bomba imparable &#8211; morí el 1990 amb 35 anys -, gran improvisador amb la guitarra i bon cantant, amb un timbre radiant. La meva cançó preferida de <strong>STV</strong> &#8211; també versió, d&#8217;Otis Rush &#8211; és <em><a href="http://www.goear.com/listen/6172854/All-your-love-(I-miss-loving)-Stevie-Ray-Vaughan">All your love (I miss loving)</a></em>.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong><img class="alignnone" src="http://www.vanitatis.com/cache/2009/01/07/75antony_art.jpg" alt="" width="126" height="217" /></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Antony Hegarty</strong>, anglès, és un cantant i pianista de màxima sensibilitat emocional, característica que expressa amb la música, junt a <strong>The Johnsons</strong>, la seva banda. Les seves cançons són del més potent que es pot aconseguir amb tan pocs decibels i notes. Tot i desafinar és una gran referència per a molts cantants i músics, ja que aconsegueix transmetre una sensibilitat anormal amb un estil molt personal. La meva cançó preferida d&#8217;<strong>Antony &#38; The Johnsons</strong> és <em><a href="http://www.goear.com/listen/12a024c/hope-theres-someone-antony-&#38;-the-johnsons">Hope there&#8217;s someone</a></em>.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Jari Mäenpää</strong>, finlandès, és ex-membre d&#8217;<strong>Ensiferum</strong> i fundador de <strong>Wintersun</strong>. És per mi el major exponent del death metal melòdic, una de les branques del heavy més populars actualment. Va fer el primer treball de <strong>Wintersun</strong>, de títol homònim, només acompanyat amb un bateria i assumint els papers de dues guitares, baix i veus; amb tot, va fer un dels àlbums més aclamats en molts anys dins del panorama heavy. Els seus guturals aguts són nets, molt potents i amb molt de caràcter i intenció. El domini que té de la guitarra és anormal i és capaç de fer solos impossibles mentre canta. És un perfecte compositor i front-man, comparable amb <span style="background-color:#ffffff;"><strong>Chuck Schuldiner</strong>, fundador i front-man de Death i pioner del death metal. La meva cançó preferida de <strong>Wintersun</strong> és <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnhdJVh9iIY"><em>Beyond the dark sun</em></a>.</span></p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Muzyka popularna zawsze pełna była  <strong>falseciarzy</strong>. Wypełniali wszystkie jej rejony, nawet takie, które dziś awansowały na półkę kultury wysokiej (czyli takiej, której zwolennicy lubią czuć się wyżsi od innych). Przykładem jest tu nie tylko Farinelli, bohater słynnego filmu Gérarda Corbiau o ostatnim kastracie, ale i rzesza facetów wydających z siebie piski niewymuszone operacyjnie (mężczyźni mogą zbliżyć się jedynie do altu, najniższego głosu kobiecego).</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Zostawiając już na boku odcięte narządy płciowe, które i tak męczyć nas będą, przybrawszy formę freudowskich kompleksów, zróbmy krótki przegląd współczesnych muzyków &#8220;śpiewających cienko&#8221;. Bo falset to tak na prawdę ciężka praca. Etymologicznie pochodzi od włoskiego słowa &#8220;falso&#8221; (fałszywy) i realizowany jest poprzez silne napięcie strun głosowych, co wymaga niezłego treningu. Odliczamy dziesięciu naszych ulubionych falseciarzy:</p>

<p>&#8220;The Dull Flame of Desire&#8221; is a song recorded by Björk featuring Antony Hegarty from the band Antony and the Johnsons. The track was released as the fifth and final single from her sixth full-length studio album, Volta, on September 29th 2008. </p>
<p>The lyrics to the song are an English translation of a Russian poem by Fyodor Tyutchev, as it appears in the Andrei Tarkovsky film, Stalker.</p>
<p>The vocals float seamlessly from one voice to the other until they are almost unrecognizable from one to the other, Bjork and Antony recorded this during the all-night cycle of the year in Iceland, in darkness, cheek to cheek, in a cabin. you can feel the raw emotion as the poem is repeated each time building with intensity as well as the drums, which start off as a faint heartbeat and explode during the finale of this 7:30 song!</p>

<p>El autorretrato de <a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antony_and_the_Johnsons">Antony Hegarty </a>se ha solapado con el de su bisabuela muerta por tuberculosis. El cuadro se llama <em>Ghost</em> y la oscuridad interior del artista se hace patente en su propia mirada que intuye que no es suya, como tampoco su cuerpo ni, tal vez, su voz.  El médium no se puede asomar al espejo sin descubrir el abismo entre lo que descubre adentro y el reflejo que le golpea y fustiga. El alma femenina atrapada lanza un grito de horror que estremece los oídos.</p>
<p>Antony sostiene una esperanza de que haya alguien que cuide de él cuando muera, alguien que deje su corazón libre. Hay un fantasma en el horizonte cuando va a dormir. Está asustado entre la luz y ningún lugar. No quiere ser abandonado allí. La presencia desea que vaya al lecho si él cae a sus pies esta noche. Y así dejar reposar su pensamiento atormentado. No soporta permanecer para siempre en aguas divididas, ser anegado o llovido por el cielo. Alguien tiene que cuidarle cuando muera.</p>
<p>Su historia de mujer habla de la aniquilación y de los pechos cortados. Un agujero negro en el amor. Y su útero, un océano lleno de rabia y dolor. Los dedos acarician el piano en un homenaje a la belleza amputada que clama por un destello de pupilas en el que se pueda iluminar.</p>
<p>Es el deseo por crecer convertido en una hermosa mujer. Con paciencia, pues ahora no es más que un niño con un sueño que parte de lo más recóndito inexplicable. Sabe que dentro de él hay una matriz que se mantiene pura y que un día se llenará. Su poder interior y la verdad  no le permitirán sucumbir.</p>
<p>El hombre es el pequeño que se abre a la vida. Añora algo más que un día triste y clama por una nueva existencia. Pide perdón por desear la libertad de su espíritu. La derrota viene en una gélida ola de vergüenza y culpabilidad.  Ha llegado desde la oscuridad, donde la sombra hace vencedor al árbol tenebroso. Ha salido de allí y se hinca de rodillas para suplicar indulgencia y ser bendecido. Porque la debilidad ha germinado y brotará bosque en su camino hacia la madurez, condenado en un cuerpo atroz.</p>
<p>Canta a su hermana, nacida inocente, llena de necesidad. Con la que alguna vez fue cómplice y otras cruel. A quien pidió en las noches de miedo que  le velara. La que quiso adentrarse en los lugares temidos y conoció su mundo,  protegida por su naturaleza de bondad. A ella se fue pareciendo cada vez más a lo largo del tiempo. En su forma de reír o de sentir dolor. A la que desea que todos sus sueños se hagan realidad. Como los suyos propios.</p>
<p>Se hace las preguntas sin respuesta: ¿Qué puedo hacer si el ave tiene que morir? ¿Qué puedo hacer si es tan débil para volar? ¿Qué puedo hacer cuando me llama por mi nombre? Grita: Mamá, ayúdame a vivir porque no sé cómo soportarlo.</p>
<p>El amor le llega cuando descubre unos ojos que se desbordan como el mar. Entonces sucede la necesidad de aferrarse a las insinuaciones, las pequeñas señales de la devoción. Hacen mella los puños, conoce lo que está fuera del sentimiento supremo, el látigo que somete a la rendición. Siente el fuego en la mirada de quien no le ama y le carboniza el corazón.</p>
<p>Corre el peligro de sucumbir. Siente el frío y se congela. Está girando en el juego del corazón roto. Dispuesto, a la espera, como un perro que añora calor. Nació viejo, con sangre envenenada. No fue mujer y no sabe hacia donde ir. Cae en una espiral de hielo, miedo y muerte.</p>
<p>Un predicador anuncia la resurrección, el cuerpo descansa en el cementerio y el alma encontró a Jesús. Estuvo buscando sus alas, con su corazón en las manos, y las encontró. Se reencarnó en un ave  del cielo: una mujer pájaro, majestuosa al volar.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Die Buschtrommeln verkünden es: Björk ist zurück! Moment: Buschtrommeln? Nicht etwa doch schmelzende Eiszapfen? Keine Mikro-Beats unter Streicher-Lagen? Nein, diesmal nicht. Das war alles schon, Frau Guðmundsdóttir wiederholt sich nicht so gerne. Dieses Mal bitte farbenfroh, richtig gut gelaunt, „up“, wie sie sagt, mit ein paar kräftigen Beats dazu. Nach Vocal-Album <em>Medúlla</em> und Art-Film-Soundtrack <em>Drawing Restraint 9</em> wurde schließlich auch allerorten genug gejammert, die isländische Elektro-Pop-Ikone werde immer mehr Avantgarde und verliere jeglichen Pop-Appeal, mit dem 1993 ihre Solokarriere immerhin begann. Mehr Pop als das Artwork geht dieses Mal jedenfalls nicht. Auf knallrotem Digipak thront eine sinnlich dreinschauende Björk, allerdings nicht im Oberkörper-Portrait wie üblich, sondern als eine Mischung aus Apfel, Erde und Bunt. Vereinfacht gesagt. Das kugelrunde Planeten-Kostüm mit überdimensionierten, blauen Stampfern wurde vom deutschen Designer Bernhard Wilhelm entworfen und passt nur all zu gut in das extrovertierte und überkolorierte Design der Platte. Und (teilweise) auch zum Inhalt.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Der Richtungswechsel wird also auch optisch vollzogen, man kann es kaum übersehen. Aber wenn Björk Pop macht, klingt das eben doch etwas anders. Das <em>Volta</em>-Konzept schließt nicht zuletzt auch Sozialkritik, Verarbeitung der Tsunami-Katastrophe in Asien und den Versuch, einen universellen Rhythmus zu finden, mit ein. Es soll global marschiert werden, unverfälscht von Religion und politischer Korruption. „I mean, the human race, we are a tribe, let&#8217;s face it, and let&#8217;s stop all this religious bullshit. I think everybody, or at least a lot of my friends, are just so exhausted with this whole self-importance of religious people. Just drop it. We&#8217;re all fucking animals, so let&#8217;s just make some universal tribal beat. We&#8217;re pagan. Let&#8217;s just march.“<a href="#_ftn1">[1]</a> Also dann, auf auf!</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Erster Stolperstein: Timbaland. Frage: Warum und wozu? Laut Björk gab es seit jeher gegenseitige Bewunderung. Der in der R’n’B/Pop-Welt begehrteste Produzent derzeit mochte schon ihr „Venus As A Boy“ aus dem Jahr 1993. Die Bollywood-Streicher seien so toll, auch wenn seinerzeit der Indien-Trashfilm-Trend kaum im Westen bekannt war. Vier Jahre später unterlegte er dann einen von Missy Elliots Tracks mit Samples aus Björks „Jóga“. Diese zeigte sich geschmeichelt, nicht zuletzt, da sie schon immer gegen musikalischen Snobismus angeht und selbst am liebsten zu Destiny’s Child, Michael Jackson und ähnlich Tanzbarem auf Partys feiert. Der Wunsch nach einer Zusammenarbeit hielt sich also einige Zeit, während der es mit Timbalands Karriere stetig bergauf ging. Allerdings war Björk mit <em>Medúlla</em> und dem Soundtrack zu <em>Drawing Restraint 9</em>, dem Kunstfilm ihres Ehemannes Matthew Barney, in so ganz anderen Gefilden unterwegs. Jetzt sei es aber wieder Zeit für etwas Verspieltes, Leichtfüßiges und nicht zuletzt Kraftvolles. „Earth Intruders“, die erste Single und Eröffnung des Albums, ist eines der drei Projekte der beiden Künstler. Allerdings wie so oft von Björk im Alleingang weiterbearbeitet, so dass man nicht wirklich behaupten könnte, hier einen Timbaland-Beat vor sich zu haben, wenn man es nicht wüsste. Das war ihr auch wichtig, heißt es. Das alles bei Seite, ist das Stück dennoch kein Juwel in ihrer Sammlung. Der repetitiv trampelnde Song bietet wenig Höhepunkte, macht nach kurzer Eingängigkeit eher Langeweile. Das konnte Björk ohne Unterstützung schon weit besser, nehme man zum Beispiel „Army Of Me“ (<em>Post</em>, 1995) oder „There’s More To Life Than This“ (<em>Debut</em>, 1993). Jedenfalls wäre mehr aus dem Song zu holen gewesen, aber schließlich sollte es simpel und geradlinig werden, den Ballast der verkopften oder überemotionalen Vorgänger zurückdrängen. Die neue Gangart wird dabei durchaus deutlich, neben der Rückkehr zu kräftigerer Elektronik setzt Björk erstmals wirklich als solche identifizierbare Live-Drums ein, viele organische Instrumente aus dem afrikanischen Raum und Opern-artige backing vocals. Die Percussions kommen gar von der afrikanischen Gruppe Konono N°1 aus Kinshasa, die mit ihrem Mix aus Weltmusik und basaler Elektronik schon international für Furore sorgte.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Trotzdem bleibt es rätselhaft, warum es der Hype-Produzent Nummer 1 sein musste, schließlich hat sie seit mehr als zehn Jahren Mark Bell mit im Boot. Der britische Soundtüftler (808 State, LFO) ist eine der wenigen Konstanten im kreativen Umfeld der Isländerin und prägte mit seinen Fähigkeiten als Produzent maßgeblich den Sound von Björks Beats. Nicht zuletzt wird er auch von der sonst konstant gespaltenen Fangemeinde respektiert und zum überwiegenden Teil für seinen Einfluss geschätzt. Warum, das zeigt „Wanderlust“, das als erste Single ungleich besser geeignet gewesen wäre. Über heftig rumorenden, spannungsgeladenen Breakbeat-Effekten, die wohlig an <em>Homogenic</em>-Zeiten erinnern, legt Björk gewohnt eigenwillig ihren Gesang, dezent gegen den Strom der Effekte angehend, und schafft so Spannung innerhalb simpelster Songstrukturen. Wo früher Streicher waren, sind auf Volta Bläser, was auf Kenner ihres Sounds zwar skurril anmutet, aber hervorragend funktioniert. Die epochalen Trompeten im Refrain geben dem eingängigen Stück die zu ihm passende atmosphärische Weite und Energie.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Und damit ist das Thema Mark Bell noch nicht abgehakt, für „Declare Independence“ hat Björk ihre Vocals auf einen seiner pumpenden Beat-Teppiche deponiert und damit das erste heißblütige Technostück seit ihrem 1997er „Pluto“ hingelegt. Vollelektrische Auslegware knarzt und rumort sich ihren Weg durch vaporisierte Synthi-Splitter, was zusammen einen explosiven Bombenteppich ergibt und Björks Punk-Seite wiederbelebt. Einfache Ansagen reichen aus, „Declare independence! Don’t let them to that to you! Protect your language! Make your own flag!“ etc., das Brodeln und Kochen erledigt die Musik, bis sich unweigerlich das Ganze in ein orgiastisches Atari-Teenage-Riot-Trash-Beat-Ungetüm steigert. Es war wohl mal wieder Zeit die niemals enden wollenden Elfen-Assoziationen zu zerhauen. Ein Stück, das in bekannter Weise polarisieren wird, aber auch das hat bei Björk schließlich Tradition.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Natürlich ist gleichwohl nicht alles Wucht und Bombast, in der Mitte des Albums sind wieder einige Lieder vertreten, die gewohnt ungewöhnliche Pfade beschreiten und mehr Energie sowie Beschäftigung erfordern, um ganz erschlossen zu werden. Jene, die womöglich erst beim zehnten Durchlauf ‚klick’ machen und sich dann meist länger festsetzen als die Instant-Hits. Dazu gehört „I See Who You Are“, bei dessen Lyrics man unweigerlich bemerkt, dass Björk dieses Stück für ihre Tochter Ísadóra geschrieben hat. Nun ist das immer so eine Sache, mit Songs die Musiker(innen) ihren Kindern widmen. Das kann fürchterlich schmalzig werden und voll daneben gehen (siehe „Ribbons Undone“ von Tori Amos), oder eine intime Glanzleistung darstellen (siehe „Bertie“ von Kate Bush). Der Schlüssel zum Erfolg sind nicht nur Lyrics, sondern auch Instrumentierung. Björks Stärke ist hier abermals, dass bei ihr alles etwas anders läuft. Aus der Geburtserfahrung machte sie das dunkle, komplexe Vocal-Konzept-Album <em>Medúlla</em>, das man kaum mit Mutterschaft assoziieren würde, und bei diesem Stück liegt der Fall kaum anders. Zum lasziven, der nordeuropäische Volksmund würde sagen ‚exotischen’ Pipa-Spiel der Gastmusikerin Min Xiao-Fen legt sich hier ein ambienter und behutsamer Track. Die Pipa, eine Art asiatische Laute mit Stahlsaiten, wird dabei wie in Wirbeln von der Chinesin gezupft, was dem sonst eher zurückhaltenden Song an gewissen Stellen eine einfühlsame Dramatik verleiht, wie der sprichwörtliche kalte Schauer in seiner angenehmen Ausführung. Dies auch nicht zuletzt wegen der bemerkenswerten Lyrics. Welche Sängerin würde wohl ihrer vierjährigen Tochter Zeilen widmen wie „And afterwards / Later this century / When you and I have become corpses… / Let’s celebrate now while there is flesh on our bones!“? Diese Spur des Jenseitigen, Leben und Untergang im Kontrast, zeigt sich immer wieder in Björks musikalischem Schaffen und Texten, durch das Gegenüberstellen von organischen und anorganischen Elementen, abstrakten und realen Gedanken und dergleichen mehr: Streicher vs Vulkanbeats (<em>Homogenic</em>), Pop vs TripHop (<em>Post</em>), Laptop vs Mikro-Rhythmen (<em>Vespertine</em>) etc., die Liste ist lang und zeigt, worin die Faszination im oft auch sehr einfachen Werk der Isländerin liegt. So steckt in einem kleinen wie eleganten Stück wie „I See You Who You Are“ mehr Björk, als man erahnen mag.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Abgehackte Samples männlicher, weiter aber undefinierbarer Laute, stampfender Beat mit elektrischem Knacken &#8211; In „Innocence“ hört man Timbalands Beteiligung am deutlichsten. Die Go-Stop-Go-Nummer stampft ordentlich und ist neben „Earth Intruders“ das musikalisch simpelste der <em>Volta</em>-Stücke. Die sich gegenseitig überrumpelnden, überlagerten Stimmsamples, wie sie für die Sängerin Markenzeichen sind, bringen doch mehr ihres eigenen Gouts zurück. Es wäre auch sehr übertrieben, die fremde Beteiligung hier über zu bewerten, einen ähnlichen Song, auch in Sachen Rhythmus, hatte Björk bereits 1997 mit „Alarm Call“. Wobei wieder die Frage aufkommt: Wozu Timbaland? Bei „Hope“, der dritten und letzten Zusammenarbeit, ebenso. Die im Refrain multiplen Gesangslagen und schweren Takte werden durch den malischen Kollaborateur Toumani Diabate aufgelockert, mit virtuos gespielter Kora, einer afrikanischen Harfe. Zählt man all diese Einflüsse zusammen, vermutet man eher David Andrew Sitek und Konsorten am Mischpult. Erklärbar dadurch, dass der ursprünglich von Timaland gelieferte Beat Björk zu statisch war, von ihr zerhackt und neu gesamplet wurde, bis das nun hörbare Ergebnis dabei herauskam. Das erste Mal echte Wüstenatmosphäre in einem Björk-Song, das hätte man sich bis <em>Volta</em> auch nicht wirklich vorstellen können.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Die größte Überraschung war aber die Ankündigung zweier Duette mit Antony Hegarty (Antony and the Johnsons). Der New Yorker Sänger und Pianist erntete 2005 mit seinem Album <em>I Am A Bird Now</em> vielfach Kritikerlob und internationale Preise, die über die Singer/Songwriter-Szene weit hinausreichten. Wo man Rufus Wainwright, Devendra Banhart oder auch Joanna Newsom sagt, fällt bald darauf auch Antonys Name. Durch gemeinsame Freunde in der NYC-Musikerszene (um genau zu sein, die üblichen Verdächtigen Matmos) fanden beide schließlich zueinander, und da Antony seit jeher großer Bewunderer der Isländerin ist, wurde bald zusammen aufgenommen. Zwei der Stücke schafften es auf Volta, „The Dull Flame Of Desire“ und das Album-Finale „My Juvenile“. Ersteres verbindet auf perfekte Weise Antonys von sehr starkem Vibrato gekennzeichnete theatralische Stimme und eine dazu parallel alles aufbietende Björk. Die beiden Ausnahmetalente duellieren sich fast zu heroischen Bläsern, mit gestärktem Rückgrat durch einen sich stetig steigernden Rhythmusteppich. Der ist hier abermals live eingespielt, von Lightning Bolts Drummer Brian Chippendale, angeblich in einem uneditierten Take. Siebeneinhalb dichte, faszinierende Minuten, die hypnotisieren und <em>Volta</em>s Tiefe beherbergen, auch räumlich durch den aszendierenden Double-Bass. „My Juvenile“, der von Björks inzwischen schon zwanzigjährigen und selbst musizierenden Sohn Sindri handelt, ist ein reduziertes und minimalistisch gehaltenes Harfenstück, das vom Sound her an ihre instrumentalen Projekte erinnert. Antony gibt hier nur kurz die beschwichtigende, zweite Stimme des Gewissens, welche die strauchelnde Mutter in ihrer Schuld besänftigt. &#8220;So the backing vocals were sort of like Jiminy Cricket and the main voice was sort of a Pinocchio. Jiminy Cricket is going, &#8216;You know you did your best, don&#8217;t worry about it,&#8217; and being soothing. And Antony&#8217;s naturally like that, he&#8217;s really soothing.&#8221;<a href="#_ftn2">[2]</a> Das einfühlsame Stück sticht nicht so sehr heraus wie das andere Duett der beiden, bildet aber einen harmonischen Abschluss für <em>Volta</em>.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Ein in (und auf dem Soundtrack) <em>Dawing Restraint 9</em> zu findendes Bläserstück wurde für Volta beinahe eins zu eins recyclet, „Hunter Vessel“, die bedrohliche jener Untermalungen, zu denen sich das Walfangschiff auf seine Fahrt macht. Dieses Mal unterstützt von militärischen Drums und einer sinister umherspukenden Björk. Wer Matthew Barneys Art-Film über Vaseline, japanische Traditionen und den Gewinn durch das Ansetzen von restringierendem Zwang gesehen hat, kann mit der unangenehmen Stimmung des Stückes weit mehr anfangen als der unbedarfte Zuhörer. Fans von „An Echo, A Stain“ oder „Submarine“ kommen somit bei „Vertabrae By Vertabrae“ auf ihre Kosten. „Pneumonia“ setzt das, quasi als zweiter Teil, fort, orientiert sich mit Björks hohen Vocals und sanfteren Bläsern aber eher an entspannenderen Motiven. An Querverweisen mangelt es also nicht, es wurde nicht aller Restbalast ihrer letzten Projekte über den Haufen geworfen, einiges neu und Album-gerecht aufgewertet.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Dennoch hat <em>Volta</em> insgesamt betrachtet seinen eigenen Sound und fällt als Sammlung verschiedenster Stimmungsrichtungen innerhalb Björks Schaffen auf, die nicht unerheblich mit neuen Elementen angereichert wurden. Auch wenn viele Übergänge zwischen den Stücken Brücken schlagen, ist hier je nach Lust, Laune und Ortslage einfach eine eigene Playliste erstellbar. Eine musikalische Schifffahrt, die kleine Blicke auf verschiedene Inseln, im vornehmlich afrikanisch-asiatischen Raum, zulässt, dabei aber immer unverkennbar Björk bleibt, allen Kollaborateuren und Hype-Produzenten zum Trotz. <em>Volta</em> wird so besonders jenen gefallen, die sich seit ihren beiden ersten Alben ein wenig mehr Leichtigkeit und Eklektik in die Produktionen zurückgewünscht haben.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Sicher kann man über die Naivität streiten, mit der sie an aktuelle politische Themen in manchen der <em>Volta</em>-Lyrics herangeht und ob die Parolen in „Declare Independence“ einfach witzig oder bloß plump sind. Dass selbst eine sonst so mit sich und dem Kern der inneren Dinge beschäftige Künstlerin wie Björk solche heißen Eisen anfasst, spiegelt wohl auch die aktuelle Zeit wider und dass sich selbst blauäugigste Naturen vor ihr nicht verstecken können. Aber diese Naivität gehört zu Björks Charakter und ermöglicht ihr erst, ihre Musik auf ihre eigene Art und Weise zu verwirklichen. Und die zählt im Endeffekt. Das übergeordnete Ziel, ein leichtfüßiges, optimistisches Album zu machen, das seine eigenständige Energie besitzt und freigibt, ist ihr bedingt gelungen. Das Album wirkt durch seine rohe Produktion zu großen Teilen unfertig und hölzern, die fehlende Homogenität, im krassen Kontrast zu ihren sonstigen Arbeiten, fordert ihren Tribut. Möglich ist es dennoch, einfach mit der Musik ins Unbekannte zu gehen, auch physisch. Die Ferne lockt, <em>Volta</em> ist unruhig und möchte überall sein, nur nicht hier, hat das Zuhause im Unterwegssein. [28. April 2007/5. Mai 2007]</p>

<p>According to a <a href="http://www.nme.com/news/jay-z/47687" target="_blank">recent NME interview</a>, Jay-Z apparently wants to work with Liam Gallagher. Says the rap superstar:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;When I teamed up with Linkin Park nobody expected that to work but we made a massive success of it,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The same could happen with Liam.&#8221;</p>

<p>Disregarding the obvious <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRNeI2oLBXw" target="_blank">hilarity</a> in Jay-Z&#8217;s logic, does he know that Liam is the Gallagher who <em>doesn&#8217;t</em> write songs and <em>doesn&#8217;t</em> play guitar? Regardless, Jay-Z seems to get around the musical world more than Kristie Alley at a buffet.</p>
<p>Despite the fact Hova has already &#8220;collaborated&#8221; with <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXnR8y89TvI" target="_blank">half</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5jdA9Tdg-k">of</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbaPaNe8xCc" target="_blank">North</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMbXAU43Tn4" target="_blank">America</a> and at least cybered with a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OsV3Ep3dUA" target="_blank">handful</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVNrXPnGqvM">of</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl3cBkuDPZk" target="_blank">Brits</a>, the former Oasis frontman would by leaps and bounds make his oddest pairing yet.</p>
<p>In light of odd couples, here&#8217;s my personal list of musical collaborations that always make me smile.</p>

<p>This video isn&#8217;t the song in question, but it&#8217;s from the same upcoming album. I haven&#8217;t heard even a sliver of this colab track yet, which was apparently produced by Jermaine Dupri and I don&#8217;t even have to &#8212; just the idea blows my mind, along with this <a href="http://http://rapradar.com/2009/09/29/weezer-meets-weezy/" target="_blank">Weezy Meets Weezer</a> headline from whence I first heard the news.</p>

<p>If you don&#8217;t like either of these artists, you probably hate this song. If you like one, you probably like the other. If you really like both of them to begin with, you probably jizzed your pants the first time you heard this. I suppose I&#8217;m kind of cheating though since these two aren&#8217;t really an odd couple as much as&#8230; they are a couple of odd people.</p>

<p>In hindsight this isn&#8217;t an odd pairing, but keep in mind this track was during that magical period in time when Mariah was first emancipated but still somewhat unsure of herself. Meaning, she wasn&#8217;t annoying yet, but her exuberance was bubbling over and infectious as hell. She was still wearing a pretty untarnished &#8220;good girl&#8221; image, so when ODB comes in during his first verse it was probably one of the seminal musical moments of the 90&#8217;s, defining all pop-rap collaborations for generations to come. &#8220;Me and Mariah go back like babies with pacifiers&#8221;? Classic.</p>

Men frågan är om inte <a href="http://open.spotify.com/album/3lk7Wjf5HDIlDyzgHDhu3j" target="_blank"><em>Cohen &#8211; The scandinavian report</em></a> är ännu bättre.</p>

Det är nästan, men bara nästan, Antony-klass på framförandet (<strong>Antony Hegartys</strong> hyllning till Leonard Cohen ni kan ta del av <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MDlMdu2gjw" target="_blank">HÄR</a>).</p>
<p><strong>Olle Ljungström, Lars Halapi</strong> och framför allt <strong>Jenny Wilson</strong>, gör även de utmärkta och innerliga tolkningar av vad som kan vara några av de finaste låtarna genom musikhistorien.</p>
<p>Men varför ville ingen ge sig i kast med Cohens pièce de récistance, <em>Famous blue raincoat</em>?</p>

Simţi că va trebui să creşti cu muzica lor, cu fiecare album pe care îl scot, pentru că le rămâi dator. Cel mai mult îmi place că folosesc o gamă variată de instrumente: pian, chitară, bass, tobe, viori, violoncele. Şi unde mai adaugi şi vocea lui Antony, te trece imediat un fior.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Nu multă lume a auzit de ei sau i-a ascultat, cum este şi cu <strong>Deine Lakaien</strong> (sper ca după concertul lor de la noi din martie muzica lor a ajuns şi la urechile mai multor persoane care să le aprecieze muzica, viziunea şi talentul). </p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Antony and the Johnsons au lansat în total 3 albume, <strong>Antony and the Johnsons </strong>în 2000, <strong>I Am a Bird now</strong> în 2005 şi <strong>The Crying Light</strong> în 2009. Încercaţi să faceţi rost de ele pentru că merită, sunt de colecţie şi de ascultat pe semi-întuneric, pentru meditaţie. Lăsaţi-vă învăluiţi de aceste balade minunate, puţin neobişnuite, dar care te cuceresc şi fără îndoială nu te pot lăsa indiferent.</p>

<p>Was watching some obscure music programme last night, on BBC4, about bands signed to the Rough Trade label. There were same great bands &#8211; The Smiths, Libertines, The Strokes, Pulp &#8211; among others.</p>
<p>This came on at the end and I&#8217;d not heard of them before (which makes me feel like I&#8217;ve been living under a rock since they&#8217;ve been formed for quite a long time). Antony &#38; The Johnsons. They won the Mercury Music Prize in 2005. <a title="antony hegarty" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antony_Hegarty" target="_blank">More about Antony.</a></p>

<p>The Alien&#8217;s Daily smile today was as wide as my bathtub sea, stretching to infinity. Make my eyes shine wide to give some room on God&#8217;s little dance floor to the <a href="http://www.cocorosieland.com/">Coco Rosie </a> sisters, Bianca Leilani &#8220;Coco&#8221; and Sierra Rose &#8220;Rosie&#8221; Casady.  </p>
<p>The singing sister girls finally tour the US, beginning in NYC on September 2nd. Where Bjork only began is where these girls begin. I will definitely try to invade their auras when they come, for I had a master shopping list for when I came to just visit the Earth for a few hundred years which included:          </p>

<title><![CDATA[Album Review - Two Dancers by Wild Beasts]]></title>

<p>Every so often, an album comes along that is impossible to liken with anything else.  Two Dancers, the second album from experimental band Wild Beasts is such an album.</p>
<p>It opens with Hayden Thorpe&#8217;s typical vocal gymnastics in &#8216;The Fun Powder Plot&#8217; and Antony Hegarty immediately springs to mind (Antony &#38; The Johnsons) before Thorpe surprises by announcing &#8220;this is a booty call&#8221;.  &#8216;Hooting &#38; Howling&#8217; follows and has a playful vocal tempo but still manages to retain the fragility Thorpe can display so easily.  I should at this point say that I totally understand why some might not warm to Hayden Thorpe.  I&#8217;ve heard it said that his falsetto is pretentious but, well, isn&#8217;t that the point of falsetto in the literal sense?  Personally, I like that I never know where he is going to take me next within the medium to high vocal ranges.</p>
<p>&#8216;All The Kings Men&#8217; starts with chanting akin to a tribal ceremony before it is interrupted by a shriek and then settles into deeper vocals by Tom Fleming that bring Morrissey to mind.  &#8216;When I&#8217;m Sleepy&#8217; feels like a brief interlude in the album.  A dream sequence that refreshes the listener for the journey ahead.  &#8216;We Still Got The Taste Dancing On Our Tongues&#8217; is a glorious pop song that captures the alternative 80s/90s scene that ethereal bands like This Mortal Coil occupied.</p>
<p>Fleming takes over again for the two-part tale that gives the album its title.  These tracks take the album in a more introspective and sombre direction and don&#8217;t instantly feel like they fit but, as I&#8217;ll try to explain at the end, they definitely do belong.  &#8216;This Is Our Lot&#8217; maintains the mournful feel and then &#8216;Underbelly&#8217; provides another short interlude before &#8216;The Empty Nest&#8217; brings proceedings to an end.  This final track has the feel of drunken sailors sat in a tavern telling tales of life lived to the fullest.</p>
<p>So, back to the point I made earlier about why the tracks all belong exactly where they are.  At first you might be jerked and irritated by the change in mood experienced when you reach tracks 6 and 7 and the temptation to skip by them might even exist but please do stick with them.  The reason I say that is (and I fully appreciate this could sound overly grand) the album feels very much like an opera or theatre visit.  Tracks 1 to 4 take us through the first act before tracks 5 to 9 lead us through the second and it all comes together with track 10.</p>
<p>If I were to review individual songs without experiencing the album as a whole I would be rather less complimentary but, taken as the sum of its parts, this album truly is an intricate piece of beauty.  I don&#8217;t gush about everything I listen to (far from it in fact) but I simply cannot deduct any points from this review as I cannot see how the album can be improved.</p>
<p>Do yourself a favour &#8211; get this album, remove all distractions and listen to it from start to finish at least twice over.  I really don&#8217;t think you will regret it at all.</p>
<p>A flawlessly perfect 10/10 from me.  An amazing piece of work.</p>
