App Rejection nasce come comunità in cui segnalare la applicazioni che sono state rifiutate dall’App Store; uno spazio per gli sviluppatori in cui discutere sulle decisioni della Mela.

Spesso appaiono notizie sulle ultime applicazioni rifiutate dall’App Store, con i conseguenti strascichi polemici che di solito accompagnano l’evento.
Vi siete mai chiesti però quante App sono state fino ad ora rifiutate da Apple, dalla nascita dell’App Store fino ad oggi?

Non è un dato disponibile. Almeno fino ad ora, vista la nascita di App Rejection, un sito che si propone come traccia delle applicazioni che si sono viste chiudere la porta in faccia dalla Mela. Il sito è una community alimentata dagli stessi sviluppatori, invitati a inviare il loro feedback, il nome della app, la motivazione del rifiuto e i relativi commenti.

Il servizio potrebbe far nascere discussioni utili, anche per poter imparare dalle esperienze altrui o per poter scovare o sottolineare le decisioni di Apple. Fino ad oggi sono saliti alla ribalta solo i casi più eclatanti e conosciuti conditi da polemiche e toni di voce elevati; avere la possibilità di confrontare le esperienze e ascoltare i casi apparentemente minori, potrebbe fornire un contributo utile a capire meglio i meccanismi che regolano il sistema.

Secondo un recente studio effettuato dalla Olswang Convergence, gli utenti iPhone sarebbero i più propensi a spendere i loro soldi per acquistare contenuti digitali.

Per contenuti digitali si intendono non solo mp3 e applicazioni, ma anche libri e video. Gli intervistati si sono infatti detti interessati all’acquisto di film digitali, libri e Tv online con percentuali più alti rispetto ai possessori di altri smartphone.

Ora non resta che capire una cosa: gli utenti iPhone sono mediamente più benestanti, o semplicemente più amanti dei contenuti digitali?

Antonió is a good guy and was just promoted to “Master of Color” in his factory.

Unfortunately he also got a brand-new machine which is very tricky to operate. The challenge is to fill the buckets at the bottom with the correct colors. Therefore you need to adjust the colors of the buckets on the top and guid them on their way down to the buckets with the corresponding color.

You have to be very clever and fast, because the time for each job-level is limited. This app combines action and strategy in a new way.

[ This question came up from a post on www.iphonedevsdk.com, and its something I hear a lot, so here is my answer : ]

I think you face the most common problem in history -
“I have an idea, how do I make it real ?”

I think iPhone developers have heard this so many times, its easy to reply abruptly “Ideas are worth nothing!”… but maybe there’s more to this.

Ideas are at the heart of science, music, art, medicine, engineering, equality, democracy, the economy – so ideas clearly aren’t worthless.

But ideas are not enough on their own – you need to dial up the intensity to the point where your willing to do whatever-it-takes to get the job done, to do the work and see it through.

Reading an old but good classic “Think and Grow Rich” it really brings this home.

Back to the iPhone… how would you make your iPhone idea real?

Any competent developer who might help you out, would have a couple of great ideas themselves that they just haven’t had time to implement because they’ve been too busy.

Some options -
- learn to program, develop it yourself
- offer some cash along with equity, in exchange for development help
- take it further in the design stage and see what happens

One thing you absolutely should do is sit down with pen and paper and make ‘mockups’ – screen designs that show a storyboard of what your app does.

What do I see when I start the app? How does the first page look, what fonts, what images, what text instructions to display, what buttons where…
Then take that and do a life-sized drawing of the screen in color in photoshop or gimp. Do that for each page, including splash screen and settings. It will be a lot of work..you’ll learn a lot.

The first version of your paper app will be bad… rework it and make it simpler for the user. After all of this, and it could take two weeks, you’ll have something an iPhone developer can actually turn into a product, and which they can look at and give you a reasonable estimate of cost to build.

Realise that this process is what separates those who make something from those who merely wish for something without the strength of desire needed to make it real.

I do wish you all the best for your project, and we welcome you to this wonderful endeavor of creating something from nothing with your bare hands – it can be frustrating.. and is also immensely rewarding.

We are excited to announce a new addition to our iPhone application set – Units: Unit Converter. This Unit Converter application is the 15th app form us. This application is special because the first app we did was a unit converter app. Converter was our first iPhone app, but when we developed that app, we didn’t have any experience in developing apps for iPhone. Since then, we added another 13 apps and gained good experience developing unique apps with unique user interfaces. Our recent release Photo Share are good example for this.

Unit Converter comes with a unique UI – with just horizontal scrolling and it remembers all your previous selections. It has all 18+ categories you’ll fine in our other converter app with conversions between 200+ units.

Apple has added a new automated layer to its approval process for App Store software, but according to one developer, it’s not perfect.

Apple recently began using computers to automatically scan for the use of private application programming interfaces. The new automated scan does not change any of the rules Apple has had in place for the App Store: Private APIs have always been banned from use in iPhone software. But according toGizmodo, the rule was not entirely enforced, because it can be difficult to determine when an API falls within the rules and when it does not.

iPhone developers are provided with a number of public APIs that are within the terms of the App Store developer agreement. But there are other, private APIs that are considered off-limits.

“Private APIs are calls and features that only Apple uses, and which they don’t really tell developers about,” John Herrman explained. “There could be a few reasons for this: either they specifically don’t want developers to use them, for security or consistency reasons, or they’re not finished and subject to change, which means that for devs to use them would be risky — their apps could just break with the next system update, since these private APIs are, in effect, volatile.”

The new “static analysis tools” aim to catch those who might have snuck by the approval process before, with software that bends or breaks the rules established by Apple. In theory, it shouldn’t change the system for law-abiding developers, but will provide a more thorough analysis of software before it is OK’d for distribution on the App Store.

But this week, Chris Parrish with development company RogueSheep Incorporated said that their new application, Postage, was rejected by the system because of a false positive. The specifics of the rejection are technical, but in short, RogueSheep used the name of a private API method for its own category method name within the software, which caused the rejection. The developer addressed the issue, even though Parrish claims they did not actually utilize a private API.

Parrish said he would like for Apple to provide him and other developers with a copy of the analysis tool to test their own builds before they are formally submitted. He said his team had to wait for the 14-day review process to complete before they found out they had failed the analysis.

“Hopefully this and other possible false positive problems with the new code analysis portion of App Store submissions will be addressed soon,” he said.

Earlier this month, Apple added a feature to its Development Center Web site that allows developers to view the approval status of submitted applications. It allows developers to see where in the process their submission is located, with categories including “in review,” “ready for sale,” and “rejected.”

L’agenzia di stampa Reuters rivela che uno dei maggiori produttori al mondo di giochi per dispositivi “mobile”, ovvero Gameloft, ha tutta l’intenzione di tagliare gli investimenti per la piattaforma Android a causa della debolezza del suo application store, ovvero Android Market.

Una presa di posizione molto forte quella di Gameloft perché è il primo grande “brand” ad annunciare ufficialmente “la ritirata” da Android Market. Sempre in questo periodo, infatti, anche altri grandi sviluppatori stanno abbandonando la piattaforma di Google per via dello scarso rendimento della stessa. Non si può dire invece che App Store non sia remunerativo per “i big dello sviluppo”: per fare un esempio, oltre il 13% delle revenues di Gameloft sono state generate dai giochi per iPhone e iPod touch.
