When you think about Maui Ocean Center, what do you think of first? Which aspects of Maui Ocean Cent

When you think about Maui Ocean Center, what do you think of first? Which aspects of Maui Ocean Center are important, which are essential, and which ones can you take or leave? You be the judge.

Located on the south side of Maui is Ma’alaea Bay, home to the Maui Ocean Center. The center is the largest tropical aquarium in not only the state of Hawaii, but in the United States altogether. If visiting the island of Maui, this spectator spot should not be missed. The ocean center has a huge aquarium that has water filtered into it from the Bay. This aquarium is as real as it gets. This tank has a tunnel that you can actually walk through. This makes for great pictures. You can get a picture of yourself standing face to face with a sand shark. While walking through the tunnel, you will see sharks and rays, and tons of different types of fish.

The best thing about the tunnel is that you can see the underside of the creatures as they swim above you. The tanks also boast a coral and tropical fish display that will amaze anyone. The coral itself is breathtaking. In fact this coral collection is the largest of any aquarium in the world.

Another amazing display inside the aquarium is the giant cylinder columns of jelly fish. They are several feet wide, and you can watch the jellyfish float above you. The sight of these creatures is both terrifying and mesmerizing at the same time.

Next you move along through the aquarium to the sea turtles tanks. These sea turtles have been injured at some point in their lives and their stay at the aquarium is only a temporary one. They will be reintroduced back into their natural habitat once they have recovered. This is my favorite exhibit in the aquarium. If you happen to visit during feeding time you can actually feed the turtles. It’s great to watch these huge docile creatures chomping happily on their lunch.

The ocean center also has an interactive display on whales, where visitors can learn about these giant mammals. Whale watching is a big hobby in Hawaii. There are several whale watching tours available. Turtle bay resort located on the north shore of Oahu boasts that during the winter you can actually see whales from your balcony.

So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about Maui Ocean Center. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.

The Maui Ocean Center is a perfect place for families to visit. They offer a wide variety of exhibits for children that are both informative and exciting. There is also a touch pond, where children can pick up some of the creatures and actually handle them. They can see sea stars and sea urchins, as well as skates and rays. Be careful when stroking rays, however, you should always stroke them from head to tail in order to avoid being stung by there tails.

No kid friendly aquarium would be complete without food. The ocean center offers a cafe where you can grab lunch. They have light fare such as salads and sandwiches, and of course, ice cream. Also don’t miss the great picture taking opportunities that the center has to offer. Along the backside of the aquarium there are some spectacular views of Ma’alaea Bay, and there is a dolphin statue located in the very front of the center that also makes for a great souvenir photo.

If you’ve picked some pointers about Maui Ocean Center that you can put into action, then by all means, do so. You won’t really be able to gain any benefits from your new knowledge if you don’t use it.

The Maui Ocean Center was another great place we visited during our wedding trip of 2008. Our entire group of thirteen went to check it out one day, and we all left quite impressed.

The aquarium starts out with fish you can find in a tide pool , and works its way down to the fish present at the depths of the lower ocean. We saw sea urchins, seahorses, sharks, turtles, angler fish, puffer fish, and much more.

My favorite part of the entire place was the massive shark tank found towards the end. There are numerous species of sharks, manta rays, tuna, and many more types of fish swimming about. You even get to walk through a tunnel at one end of the shark tank. There are literally sharks, rays, and fish all around you. It is definitely a sight to see.

They have a pretty good sized gift shop at the end, where you can find all sorts of souvenirs.

There is a bit of a mall right next door to the aquarium as well. One thing I would be sure to check out is Hula Cookies, where they make cookies and ice cream. You can even order two of their fresh cookies, and get them to put them in a bowl with some of their ice cream in the middle. Best ice cream sandwich ever.

Explore South Africa’s Underwater Animal Life South Africa is the meeting-point for two oceans

Explore South Africa’s Underwater Animal Life
South Africa is the meeting-point for two oceans with completely different temperatures and ecosystems: the the chilly Atlantic and tropical Indian Oceans. This mixing and meeting of the oceans means that the South African coastline throngs with a fascinating variety of marine species, which are featured in South Africa’s world-class aquariums.

South Africa’s aquariums are not just made up of walls of fish tanks. The aquariums are among the best in the world, and showcase spectacular marine life in innovative and educational displays. They also give visitors the opportunity to closely observe the aquarium’s fishy inhabitants, by allowing them to dive in or near the tanks. Not only focused on fish, the aquariums display the magnificent and, in many cases endangered marine mammals and sea birds of South Africa.

Where two oceans meet

The aquarium best situated to show off the unique diversity of life at the meeting of the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans is Cape Town’s Two Oceans Aquarium, located at the V&A Waterfront. The Aquarium boasts more than 8000 live specimens, representing approximately 300 species of fishes, invertebrates, mammals, reptiles and birds, and plants.

This amazing underwater world is presented in six creatively designed galleries. The Indian Ocean gallery features colourful tropical fish from the warm Indian ocean, and you can walk through a 3m wide cylindrical exhibit to really experience the jewel-like colours of the fishes. In contrast, the Atlantic Ocean Gallery displays that ocean’s resident species, including endangered Knysna seahorses and weird giant spider crabs. Another gallery houses the captivating Cape fur seals, which are not trained to do traditional sea shows, but are shown in their natural state, and visitors can view them from above and below water. A river exhibit and kelp forest display educate visitors about these fragile habitats and the animals that live in them.

A definite must-see is the predator display, with its massive ragged-tooth sharks, which you can view close-up through an enormous acryclic panel. If you have a scuba qualification, you might like to have an even closer view of these amazing creatures, as you can dive with the sharks and other predatory fish, or amongst the fish of the fascinating kelp forest tank.

Meet the dolphins

If you’d like to meet the friendly and intelligent bottle nosed dolphins that frolic off South Africa’s coastline, the best place to go is the Bayworld Aquarium and Oceanarium in Port Elizabeth. Bayworld’s main attraction is its huge dolphin lake where a playful group of dolphins entertain audiences several times a day. The dolphin lake is among the largest in the world, and the oceanarium is home to a significant dolphin research centre.

There’s also a spectacular tropical fish tank and a large tank full of large fish, sharks, rays and turtles, as well as a breeding colony of penguins and other sea birds. A large seal pool provides the habitat for a small colony of Cape fur seals and a huge stranded elephant seal.

Dive into Sea World

uShaka Sea World, on Durban’s Golden Mile, is the fifth largest aquarium in the world and offers interactive and exciting ways of viewing the ocean’s amazing animal life. Many of the aquarium’s displays are underground and viewed through the portholes of a replica 1920s shipwreck.

For a really unique view of diverse aquatic species, try out the snorkel lagoon where you can float gently over a lagoon filled with marine life and maritime relics such as a 16th century ship’s cannon, before you enter the shipwreck, where you can face up to some sharp-toothed predators, who are fortunately safely behind glass. You can also dive in the exhibit of magnificent reef fish found off the KwaZulu-Natal coast.

One of the highlights of Sea World’s tank exhibits is the Dangers of the Deep tank, occupied by sharks, sea snakes, devil fire fish and stone fish – try to head here at feeding time, and you might even be able to touch a shark as it swims past the feeding balcony. Don’t miss the beautiful fish of the Coral Gardens, or the Deep Zone, which displays some of the weird animals inhabiting the dark world at the bottom of the ocean.

You can meet bottle nosed dolphin Gambit and his friends at the entertaining shows in the 1200 seater dolphin stadium. Specially designed viewing windows enable vistors to see the dolphins both above and below the water, where you can appreciate their beauty and strength up close. Don’t forget to also visit the seal stadium, where the intelligent and agile seals entertain visitors. The African penguin is an endangered species, and the aquarium’s breeding colony is a great place to see these rare birds.

There’s the adjoining uShaka Wet ‘n Wild waterpark, with super tubes and tunnel rides, so you can end off your exciting marine experience with a splash.

Blogging for the trip last November 7, 2009. We went for a quick stroll at Manila Ocean Park because I have not yet visited this place and this place seeems intresting to try my skills out.

We first ate our lunch at Makansutra, a dampa-style restaurant which serves different kinds of Asian cuisine, before proceeding with the park proper. Here is a shot I took at Makansutra.

I have been reading tons of stuff, like photography techniques and lessons over the internet and it surprised me that it is more difficult hands on than on paper. This is yet another challenge for the photographer in me as I was confronted with the sign on the photo below and some Ocean Park employees reminding the policy on the picture.

Damn! I quickly set my camera at a higher ISO (sensor sensitivity to light) to 1600 instead of my normal ISO-100, and set the aperture and shutter speed accordingly. Man my shutter speed was set so slow for hand-held use and again camera shake the biggest threat of ruining a not so perfect shot, but it turned out just fine ( excuse my other pictures on the album as it was ruined by camera shake and I decided to include it on the full album anyway). Though the entrance fee is 400 pesos, I learned a lot from this quick stroll to Manila Ocean Park.

Encouraged by the comments of a recent foreign visitor, I decided to visit Atlantis to see the Lost Chamber, the glorified name for the aquarium. We paid Dhs 200 to enter only to be disappointed with the lack of any info about the fish, the presence of more walls than fish and to find out later that the big aquarium, which is the main attraction can actually be seen from the hotel lobby without even paying a dime. The hotel lobby and the small shopping avenue were filled with people. Most have come to see the aquarium for free not to shop or to eat. The restaurants were empty and the hosts were waiting for people who never attempted to even look at them or the venue. We parked the car far from the hotel and were taken by a shuttle bus to the hotel. In case you were thinking of Valet Parking, the cost is Dhs 150. How sad. The whole place looked like it needed some new management to really drive business.

Give your family one incredible weekend to discover all the things to do in Boston. The kids will have a blast and parents will be delighted to know that treats and discounts are spread all throughout the city for children under twelve.

Looking for the best thing to do to get a nice Boston introduction? Allow the very interesting Boston Duck Tour give you the kind of welcome you want and need. Let the entertaining and knowledgeable tour guide give you backgrounds on Boston’s history, culture, tradition, influential people and the like. More importantly, the guide will run you through the city’s top attractions. Discover more of Boston on foot and via public transportation. Walking is preferred by most people in Boston than driving a private or rented vehicle. Get each member of your family a Visitor’s Pass, which will give you unlimited access to the T and the trolley.

Boston museums and other educational attractions also offer lower rates for children. A visit to the New England Aquarium is one of the most popular things to do in Boston among both local kids and visitors alike. At the Aquarium, expect your kids to giggle and call out for Nemo as you pass by the pool of clown fish or gasp in awe as they see the gigantic and big-tooth white sharks.

The months of April through October give families an amazing thing to do in Boston: whale watching! Join the cruise to the Stellwagen Bank where pods of humpbacks, finbacks and minkes make themselves seen.

Sports and recreational activities are great things to do for quality family bonding time in Boston. Take the kids to the Boston Common’s Frog Pond for an afternoon of ice skating free of charge. While dad takes the boys to catch a home game of the Boston Red Sox, mom and sisters can go to Faneuil Hall where they can find great finds from amazing shops that are all spread out in an incredibly sophisticated atmosphere.

Add any of the many festivals as one of the things you should do in your Boston itinerary. One way to get to know a new city is to join its residents in celebrating a very anticipated event. Or, if you want to keep things on a low profile, quiet and simple, enjoy a smaller crowd (your family, that is) in an afternoon at the much-famed Emerald Necklace. Pick from the series of parks in the Necklace and allow your kids to roam and run around or play frisbee while you and your spouse get some down time watching boats passing by the Charles River.

Having a taste of Boston’s food is one thing you should not miss to do in Boston. Located right in the heart of the Back Bay, Skipjack will serve your family only the freshest seafood. Steaks and other kid-friendly meals are, of course, also available. Along with the comforts of Intercontinental Boston to take care of your accommodation needs, you realize that all these things to do in Boston promise an absolutely fun family trip!

The lovely Joey Arias reminded me yesterday of one of the most beautiful “aquariums” I’ve ever seen. An hour-long performance that occurs inside of a specially constructed water tank, Basil Twist’s Symphonie Fantastique transforms fabric, mirrors, feathers, and bubbles of air as puppeteers manipulate such materials and more to Berlioz’s 19th century composition of the same name. Enjoy a short video excerpt here.

A éviter cependant.

At one time, I must have been on drugs. I had 5 fish tanks running up in here, including this 55 gallon.

I love aquariums because fish are so peaceful to watch. Sometimes we’d just sit on the couch in front of the tank and watch the fish swim, the cat too.

Unfortunately, there was an accident earlier this year with two of my tin foil barbs. I wanted to heat up the water a few more degrees because it was too cool.

I placed the heater in the tank, on the lowest setting the temperature is 84 degrees, but I turned it up and forgot. The temperature was in the 90s.

Came home one day, they were belly up and a new meaning to the term, fried fish was born. It will take a few sessions of therapy to get over this, but today, I finally worked up the nerve to buy three fish. I will keep adding to it until it’s fully stocked.

I am just making an aquarium, which is not deep, but we can walk on it. I’m just designing the aquarium where I can live, materials I am thinking of are acrylic, rocks and sands.

Just thinking how to divide the rooms, using acrylic board? or rocks?

There are several friends with me, some of them are working on design industries, interior stuff etc. We walked around a huge shop where selling lots of stuff about aquarium or materials for art or housing. One shop has a huge aquarium tank divided into 2 spaces by huge rocks, which looks cool.

We went to someone’s office, which is thin and old building but kind of retro-lovely place. The steps are narrow but there are many lovely drawings on the wall, which are drawn by the main artist of the office. I found a micro bike at 2nd floor of the office which is really similar to the one I have, but new. I feel happy with it.

We moved the desks or sofas to make space for making plan. We all are excited to design cool aquarium together. The office on the 2nd floor was only 2nd floor, but a lot higher than other buildings. We could see whole town under our eyes.

I feel I know everybody here, some girls some guys, the main artist of the office is thin guy, wearing pink shirt and little hat. He is kind of famous designer but also an artist.

We are discussing about the water system, if the aquarium is huge enough and enough equipments, then we don”t have to be bothered about changing or cleaning water.

What kind of fish or plants? I would love to have green fresh plants a lot, and lovely little fish.

I walk around the office and really loved the place. I’m not the one working there but I really want to be there all day, reading books, talking to people, drawing or anything. This is a kind of place where makes people creative and productive!
