Fanii speed-alternative-thrash metal ar putea avea în sfârşit un punct de reper, dacă vor să îşi achiziţioneze o chitară perfectă pentru genul lor la un preţ destul de “ieftin”~500Euro.

Ninja-600 este o chitară în general bună, nici chiar “super-marfă” dar te poate servi până când decizi să îţi cumperi una mai scumpă.Calitatea şi sunetul sunt ceva mai bune decât la JH-200, însă şi preţul pe măsură ~1000Euro,personal nu cred că se merită cheltuiala.

Metallvärldens manligaste kvinnliga sångröst måste ändå tillhöra Angela Gossow i svensk/tyska Arch Enemy.

Missförstå mig rätt när jag säger att generellt låter inte kvinnliga hårdrockssångerskor nått vidare. Det brukar för det mesta bli krystat och “skrikigt”. Jag har inga problem med sjungande tjejer i andra genres. Men i hårdrock och metall så funkar det inte för mig.

Angela är ett av de få undantagen. Hon har en jäkligt cool röst och growlar med bravur. En annan kvinna som verkligen också kan få fram metallisk skönsång blandat med growl är Morgan Lander från Kittie.

Kanske nån kan tipsa om fler bra kvinnliga hårdrockssångerskor att blanda upp med bland alla tuffa karlar. (Å kom nu bara inte dragandes med Lita Ford och Doro Pesch.)

So I took a look at one of the readings for this week, and it talked about how people use language in different contexts to connotate meanings within a community. I saw this as an opportunity to share some of the knowledge I know about the metal community by showing this music video (Arch Enemy – Revolution Begins). Please enjoy! (It’s a short post)

Basically this can only be described by the following phrase: “that’s metal”. Now, I am not just saying the obvious, but I am using the awesomeness described by Zach and Ron (of epic Metalscape fame), as something that is so imbued with the spirit and experience that you feel it through your body. This is exhibited in the following ways:

A few weeks back there was an entry in Decibel Magazine’s blog called Liv Kristine (Leaves’ Eyes) Top 5 Reasons Why Females in Metal Rule.  I read this blog entry in shock and disbelief.  OK, that’s overstating it, but I did read it with great annoyance.  This woman is actually in a touring metal band (although I have it on good authority that her band sounds like Enya, though I can’t confirm this since I haven’t listened myself), and this pathetic list was really all she could come up with?

Anyway, I would like to propose a serious alternative to her insipid drivel about metal chicks looking hot, and having bandmates who’ll babysit her kids.  Here goes.

The Top 5 Reasons Women in Metal Rule

5) Women in metal have a different perspective to bring to the music and to the scene, and diversity is what keeps things fresh and interesting.  If every single metal band out there reflected the interests and experiences of only one kind of person, it would get stale and redundant awfully quickly.

4)Women in metal make great partners!  Whether we’re straight or gay, most of us want partners who will share our tastes and interests, who’ll come with us to shows, who’ll get excited about the same things that excite us, or who will be down with listening to Vader rather than Coldplay on long roadtrips.  Sure, we’re probably used to having friends, lovers, and partners, who don’t share our passion for metal. It’s not like it’s impossible to be with a non-metalhead.  But wouldn’t it be nicer to be able to share that in your relationship?

3)Women in metal are independent and intrepid.  I grew up as a punk rocker, and started going to punk shows at the  age of 13.  In my entire show-going life, I never once went to a punk show by myself.  Nor did I ever notice seeing chicks at shows by themselves.  In the past 2 or 3 years, as I’ve started going to more and more metal concerts (and fewer and fewer punk shows), not only have I seen lots of chicks there by themselves, but I’m sometimes even one of them!  Sure, there are women in every musical sub-culture who are just in it because of their boyfriend, or to screw the guys in the bands, but it has been my experience that women who are drawn to metal are really passionate about the music and won’t let themselves be intimidated out of going to a concert when they don’t have someone to go with.

2)Women in metal have amazing voices.  From Laura Dziadulewicz of Medeia, to Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy, to the growling German chick from Insuiciety, I have honestly never heard a bad female vocal in metal (though maybe I’ve just been lucky).  There is an enormous range of styles and approaches represented by the various women of metal, and I am psyched about pretty much all of the ones I’ve heard.  Hopefully Stay Female Fronted will start back up, so that I’ll find out about even more women in metal.

1)Women in metal are brave.  It’s really hard to be a minority, to constantly have to prove yourself, to have different needs or limits than everybody else, or to work in an environment where women are often treated as nothing more than sexy bodies (or living flesh altars for Satanic rituals, I’m just sayin’!) who peddle product.  This especially goes for the women working in metal who have had to prove that there’s more to them than good looks and a gimmick designed to grab male fans’ attention.  Even when it feels like a boy’s club, these women keep working at it, getting in the van, practicing, and putting in the effort.  They take metal seriously, make awesome music, and slowly pave the way for more women to get involved in metal.

The “Tyrants Of Evil” tour, a bill that metal fans are calling a “dream come true” will be launching a 16-show sonic assault on January 20th 2010 at the Recher Theater in Towson, Maryland and tearing their way through the U.S. and Canada.
ARCH ENEMY, EXODUS, ARSIS, and Mutiny Within will make sure to provide a full carnal frenzy and all hell is expected to break loose at the last show of the tour, set for February 9th at the House of Blues in Hollywood.
Gary Holt, guitarist & songwriter for Bay Area thrash metal progenitors EXODUS, checks in on the upcoming North American blitz: “I am so stoked to announce that EXODUS will be touring the U.S. with the mighty ARCH ENEMY! As we have been friends and huge fans of theirs for what seems like forever and have played the occasional show together over the last few years, it is going to be beyond awesome to get to take part in our first full tour together. Beberapa waktu yang lalu (28/10), Solucites, salah satu promotor konser musik rock/metal yang cukup ternama, kembali mendatangkan musisi-musisi internasional untuk menghibur para penggemar musik rock/metal di Tanah Air. Band yang mereka datangkan kali ini adalah Arch Enemy, sebuah band melodic death-metal asal Halmstad, Swedia. Band ini berdiri sejak tahun 1996. Sudah merilis delapan buah album studio, tiga buah EP, dua buah DVD, sebuah album live, dan sebuah album kompilasi singel. Ya, bisa dibilang band ini sudah lumayan berumur lah. Band ini memiliki frontwoman cantik bernama Angela Gossow. Mereka tampil di Indonesia dalam rangka tur Asia-Australia untuk mempromosikan album teranyar mereka, yakni The Root Of All Evil (2009).

Tim liputan Wasted Rockers masuk ke venue pas ketika Psycroptic (salah satu band pembuka), sedang pentas. Kita tertinggal penampilan dari band pembuka dari lokal, Melody Maker (jangan tertukar dengan nama salah satu majalah musik luar yah). Psycroptic adalah band technical death-metal asal Tasmania, Australia. Mereka di sini juga dalam rangka tur keliling Indonesia untuk mempromosikan album terakhir mereka (Ob) Servant (Nuclear Blast, 2008) yang juga dirilis oleh Rottrevore Records (Jakarta) untuk pasar lokal. Setelah Jakarta, mereka akan melanjutkan tur untuk tampil di Bandung dan Malang bersama Burgerkill. Well, saya sangat menikmati set dari Psycroptic. Modern death-metal (ket: bukan brutal-death) yang mereka mainkan sangat asyik (meski saat ini band tipikal seperti mereka sudah banyak sekali); detil-detil musik yang ngejelimet, beat-blast yang mantab, teknik vokal yang variatif, tapi juga diselipi oleh mosh-parts/groove-parts. Pastinya band ini keren! Sayang, penampilan mereka di panggung hanya sebentar.

Setelah para kru set panggung, akhirnya Arch Enemy naik pentas! Angela Gossow aslinya bertubuh kecil dan mungil lho, berbeda di video atau poster yang saya lihat (di mana badannya terlihat besar dan sedikit kekar). Badannya juga sangat langsing lho (ya, dia adalah seorang vegetarian). Sementara para personil lainnya adalah para metalhead bertubuh besar khas Eropa yang berdandan goth. Scream/growl dari Angela juga sangat dashyat dan menyeramkan! Heran saya, wanita secantik dia bisa berteriak semengerikan itu…

Di set-nya, Arch Enemy memanjakan para penonton dengan ‘hits’-nya seperti: “Nemesis”, “We Will Rise”, Dead Eyes See No Future”, Blood On Your Hands”, “Taking Back My Soul”, dll. Tak bisa dipungkiri, selama pertunjukan, mata saya hanya terfokus ke aksi Angela Gossow. Mungkin begitu juga para penonton yang hadir! Badan yang langsing dibalut dengan jaket kulit ketat, juga celana kulit ketat… Oh tidak!

Jelas sekali kalau musik-musik NWOBHM / speed-metal era 80-an sangat mempengaruhi Arch Enemy. Musik death-metal yang agresif, tapi tetap diselipi oleh melodi-melodi yang harmonis. Bahkan di tengah show juga ada bagian solo-drum dan solo-gitar! Sangat-sangat stadium-rock Eropa era 80-an sekali! Persis seperti DVD Iron Maiden yang pernah saya tonton! Haha… Setelah memainkan belasan lagu juga encore, akhirnya selesai juga show Arch Enemy di Jakarta, 2009.

Arch Enemy har gjort nyinspelningar av gammalt material och kallar det The Root Of All Evil, men så dåligt eller tokigt är det inte!
….I GP kallar man tilltaget krasst ekonomisk recycling, och det är nog ett rimligt utlåtande. Angela Gossow är populär och visst kan man förstå att hon vill göra de gamla låtarna till sina egna, men hur framstår hon egentligen i jämförelsen? Trots att nyinspelningarna rockar ordentligt och Angelas röst är helt OK så tycker jag att hon drar det kortaste strået i en jämförelse med Johan Liiva.
….Jag funderar på om det finns några andra album man skulle vilja ha omgjorda med en ny sångare… Kommer du på något?

O Arch Enemy liberou o clipe ao vivo de “Dark Insanity”, música que faz parte recém-lançado álbum “The Root Of All Evil”. O novo trabalho já rendeu à banda a 7ª posição entre os artistas internacionais no Japão.

Atualmente a banda está em turnê pela Ásia e o guitarrista Michael Amott postou a seguinte mensagem: “Nós estamos viajando pela Ásia, prestes a chegar em Manila, nas Filipinas. Dias atrás, tocamos no Loud Park Festival 2009, no Japão. Como de costume, as condições foram extremamente profissionais e não há nada que possamos reclamar (…) Nós tocamos um repertório especial composto por algumas músicas do nosso novo disco ‘The Root Of All Evil’. Obrigado a todos que fizeram barulho conosco, gritando, dando ‘mosh’ – o que vocês fizeram foi ótimo e, no palco, sentimos toda essa energia”.

No início de dezembro de 2009, o Arch Enemy desembarcará na Europa para dar continuidade à turnê.

Chegou a hora, amigos. Inauguro neste instante a categoria na qual falarei sobre música, neste infeliz blog. E, pra começar, não poderia ser diferente: a seguir vocês encontrarão uma análise de um dos álbuns da minha banda favorita, Arch Enemy, que fica na frente até de Metallica.

O álbum a ser comentado aqui será o primeiro com a maravilhosa Angela Gossow no vocal, o Wages Of  Sin. É considerado por muitos o melhor álbum da história da banda, mas não é o meu preferido. Aliás, é importante deixar claro que não trabalharei aqui com as palavras “melhor” e  “pior”, em nenhum de meus posts. O mesmo serve para as palavras “bom” e “ruim”. Os motivos só eu tenho a capacidade para entender, portanto, não questionem.

Trata-se de uma banda sueca de Death Metal Melódico. Ela conta com Daniel Erlandsson na bateria, Sharlee D’Angelo no baixo, Michael Amott e seu irmão Christopher Amott nas guitarras e a alemã Angela Gossow no vocal.

Esse álbum foi o primeiro gravado assim que Angela Gossow entrou na banda, com a saída do antigo vocalista, Johan Liiva. Segundo o guitarrista e líder da banda, Michael Amott, ele foi expulso por não estar se apresentando de maneira decente ao vivo. Angela foi a escolhida para substituí-lo, já que Michael havia gostado bastante do que viu em uma fita de uma apresentação dela com sua antiga banda. A fita havia sido deixada com ele em uma entrevista feita com a banda pela própria Angela Gossow, que trabalhava como repórter.

A partir dessa entrada de Angela e do lançamento do Wages Of Sin, a banda começou a ganhar muito mais reconhecimento. Acredito que seja em grande parte por causa da loira que canta feito o capeta, realmente. Atualmente a banda só cresce cada vez mais.

O álbum começa com Enemy Whithin, a primeira música que ouvi do Arch Enemy e que me deixou espantado e até assustado com essa mulher encapetada cantando. Não é uma das minhas preferidas atualmente, mas é ótima ao vivo e é porrada do começo ao fim, com belos solos, coisa que é encontrada em todas as músicas do Arch Enemy. Ela é uma boa introdução para o álbum, uma vez que começa melódica com teclado para de repente explodir na bateria.

Depois temos Burning Angel, que possui riffs belíssimos e mostra perfeitamente o que é o Death Metal Melódico. O começo é empolgante demais, com uma melodia maravilhosa de guitarra. O vocal da Angela é um vocal que mantém-se praticamente na mesma linha o álbum inteiro. É o demônio cantando, em sua versão feminina.

Heart Of Darkness é uma música mais pesada, mas continua com a bela linha melódica.

A música seguinte, Ravenous, é outra música com riffs maravilhosos, belas melodias e um refrão pegajoso, coisa que eu particularmente adoro.

Savage Messiah e Dead Bury Their Dead são marcantes como as anteriores. A primeira é arrastada e possui um clima sombrio. É a mais lenta do álbum e o refrão também é uma coisa que gruda. A segunda é uma das minhas favoritas dentre todas da carreira da banda. Possui partes rápidas e partes mais lentas e é excelente para ser tocada ao vivo. O vocal da Angela aqui é algo surpreendente, com urros que me arrepiam. Não preciso mencionar os maravilhosos solos, por estarem presentes em todas as músicas. O mesmo se aplica à bateria, maravilhosa durante o álbum inteiro.

Web Of Lies é uma música que não chama tanta atenção. Mais pelo fato de estar entre duas músicas magníficas do que por outra coisa. Tem uma bela melodia e novamente um refrão grudento.

A próxima música é outra que está entre minhas preferidas da banda e é minha preferida do álbum. The First Deadly Sin é uma das músicas mais pesadas que eu já ouvi na vida e, não fosse por uma paradinha no meio, para depois entrar o solo, seria porrada do começo ao fim. A Angela aqui agrada até os mais chatos em relação ao vocal dela (estou falando de você, Presunto). O baixo do Sharlee ganha mais destaque nessa música, também.

Behind The Smile é meio diferente das outras, meio esquisitona, com um refrão sem guitarras. Não me agrada tanto. A seguinte, Snow Bound é uma instrumental belíssima. Só me desagrada pelo tempo de duração, que é muito curto.

As duas últimas músicas, Shadows And Dust e Lament of a Mortal Soul, são mais pesadas e também são ótimas para um show. Finalizam muito bem o álbum.

O álbum como um todo é bem aquilo que se espera de um Death Metal Melódico com muita influência do Thrash. Agressividade, melodias maravilhosas e riffs e solos muito criativos, aliados a um belo gutural desse traveco dessa mulher encapetada. Aliás, um bom número de pessoas só não gosta de Arch Enemy por ser uma mulher no vocal. Eu sei lá, acho que é questão de costume. Ou não. Eu  gosto bastante do fato de ser uma mulher cantando.
