TSG Note: We might make this a regular feature if you guys like it. Yet another new series from TSG. We could go Michael Jackson “Man in the Mirror” Series or maybe…I don’t know, we’ll come up with something better.

In our recent weekend preview piece, we concluded with a musing that Arjen Robben was probably the most similar global player to Landon Donovan. For some reason, this topic or question is really intriguing to TSG. I think it’s probably piquing my interest because I want a chance to evaluate a true USMNT starting eleven, but without the emotional connection that I’ve developed for players (See Dempsey, Clint and Feilhaber, Benny).

You see Smithers...there is only one bad man on the pitch....and that's me.

For example, I think Michael Bradley to be spot on with Mathieau Flamini. Flamini is a good player, but hardly integral to the success of AC Milan and not a lock for a France national team recall. So Bradley’s spot on the USMNT? Not a lock either when I take my emotion towards Junior out of it. Well maybe a lock vis-a-vis the rest of our talent, but that remains to be seen.

Getting back to Donovan, I consider players that:

» Put immense pressure on the defense on the counterattack

» Generally track back aggressively on defense and are a factor once there

» Are prone to making the exquisite pass instead of firing the shot. The spotter for the assassin, not the assassin.

» Quality free and corner kicks for the most part.

So in addition to Arjen Robben, what present day player possesses a comprehensive grouping of these traits.

When we actually started putting our noggin to it, the task too more time to complete than anticipated. And for much of that time we had just the Robben written down.

After deliberation, here is our list, for better or worse, of players that could do an admirable Landon Donovan impression.

Arjen Robben, Alexander Pato, Giuseppe Rossi, Florent Malouda

So let’s hit up the comparisons.

Landon Donovan Stat Line, 2008-2009 (all competitions):

42 appearances, 22 goals, 7 assists

Arjen Robben:

See Landy? I too was once rich with hair.

Stat line: 49 appearances, 10 goals, 11 assists

Summary: Dutch national Robben is a newly transferred piece in the Bayern Munich machine, having lost out on playing with the new guard at Real. The 6′0” Robben typically deploys as a wide left winger in a 4-4-2 and a forward in the 4-3-3. AR is prone to the same inside lightening quick inside runs as his carbon copy bretheren for the Los Angeles Galaxy. Donovan demolishes Robben on goals for the last campaign.

Similarities: Ability to sweep in on the counter attack, threading-the-needle-passing, receding hairlines

Differences: Donovan plays defense, Robben’s not sure what that means. Robben is more fragile and can be considered a headcase.

Scoring: 6 (out of 10)

Giuseppe Rossi:

Ross-i: Def jamming....

Stat line: 45 appearances, 19 goals, 8 assists

Summary: I know, I know. Seeing this guy in mix for Landon lookalikes is like going for a header….and slamming head first into the goalpost. You only needed to watch Rossi’s two goals over the summer against the Yanks in South Africa.

Sims: Set pieces and crosses, and shooting. Left-footed.

Difs: Donovan again the better passes, Rossi the better striker. Rossi is less consistent.

Scoring: 7.5

Hey man, you're game looks just like mine.

Alexander Pato:

Stat line: 38 appearances, 15 goals, 5 assists

Summary: A stat line comparison between the two is somewhat unfair here as the Duck (the Portugese translation of Pato is duck) is really coming into his own this year. The 5′10” 155 pounder has been more of a beast this year. He’s effective on either wing and doesn’t shy away from contact or taking it to the hole. A sniper.

Sims: Both careen up the pitch on the counter. Ability to play both wing positions. Ability to slot the pass on the run from either foot.

Difs: National team respect (Pato is not getting call-ups, Donovan *is* the team), LD has an edge on defense. Pato is the superior scorer where LD prefers to defer.

Scoring: 7

Florent Malouda:

FM: C'mon TSG Community, give me the thumbers up!

Stat line: 66 appearances, 10 goals, 9 assists

Summary: The Chelsea player and French national has been a key supporting player in Chelsea’s run to the top of the EPL. Now a complimentary player, Malouda, in a manner very similar to Donovan with the Galaxy, was the dominant player on the dominant team (Lyon) in League 1.

Sims: Attacking off the wing

Difs: Stat line, Malouda is a more physical player than Donovan. Donovan is better on set pieces.

Scoring: 5.5

So, did we nail this one or are we missing a player–is Frank Ribery too aggressive? What about Robinho or an Aaron Lennon? But seriously, anyone else?

Mark's Soccer Globe #8

So much soccer this weekend, that…yup…just checked my Swatch, we passed noon on hump day. We’re going with our weekend preview a day early to get everyone amped up and get the good comments flowing.

Our global piece is dominated by American soccer this weekend and by that wonderful “soccer globe” to our left.

Look at it sparkle. We’re going global….

….but we start in the Land of the Free and Home of the Whopper: For you USMNT hounds who missed it, here’s the TSG Slovakia preview. I hope you, Dax, and Frankie all enjoy watching the game.

» Friday night brings us Houston vs. Los Angeles from the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.

Wait, maybe I should just send you to ESPN’s piece right now that states that the key for Houston is to shut down David Beckham and Landon

ESPN: Psst...Houston...to win you are going to need to stop Beckham and Donovan. TSG: No sh*t

Donovan. Let me guess ESPN, 11 guys a side to start the match also? Thank you, recess is over ESPN, please proceed to 4th period reporting where today we’ll learn how not to just state the obvious.

Are you kidding me? TSG has nary a few weeks of MLS under our belt….we can do better than that. My fingers are actually crossed right now. Go:

• How about the Brian Ching going up for head dingers against rookie Omar Gonzales, who has pretty much played down to his age during these playoffs. Ching has the experience and the nastiness, Gonzales the strength and the youth.

• Is Ricardo Clark fully fit in the midfield and able to injure David Beckham? For the little MLS, I’ve watched, I always see extremely “borderline” tackles by the Houston USMNTer on the English pretty boy. Don’t get me wrong, Beckham is some times too Roy Keane on his tackles, but my observations usually point to Beckham being the worse for wear after the affair.

• Does Stu Holden involve himself in the game? First, let’s commend Holden, who TSG is a fan of, in that he plays to one set of his strengths for the USMNT (flying down the wing, big crosses, tracking back on defense) yet his club demands different qualities (linking play in the middle of the field, finding space). Quite dynamic for the Dynamo captain. We offered some criticism of the Iceman in the Seattle series for not more aggressively finding the ball.

Galaxy: You have the Iceman's attention

Best way to neutralize Donovan and Beckham, Stu and company? Maintain possession. That’s right, Iceman, be dangerous…with the ball.

• While many are worried about Becks and Donovan, what about Edson Buddle? The Galaxy striker while not extremely proficient around the net recently makes the defense work hard. You’ve got a big pitch, you’ve got a re-jiggered Dynamo defense with the suspension of Mike Chabala and now you’ve got the aggressive runs of Buddle coming at you. Watch Buddle vs. Houston Back 4–that’s a good match-up.

• Turning tables, the Galaxy better watch out for Houston’s Buddle, Mr. Dominic Oduro. TSG has only seen Oduro twice, but, if I were a betting man, I might take the Oduro-Berhalter match-up over the Buddle match-up just mentioned. For all his experience, Berhalter was exposed against a Chivas attack that really wasn’t very technical adept in the strike zone. Oduro, playing off Ching and with Stu and Brad Davis (does he ever have a shot at a nattie team call-up?) trailing after Becks and Donovan are racing to catch up after a counter.That might present some problems.

» Saturday evening’s affair brings us the Cinderella Salt Lakers vs. the Chicago Blancos. TSG has less observations of these teams, so we’ll keep our comments brief.

• Fresh off the US friendly in the morning, you can imagine all glassy-eyed USMNT fans will try to focus their peepers on the strikers: Chris Rolfe

Has Findley captured a little Charlie-In-A-Bottle?

and striker-du-jour Robbie Findley. While Rolfe has had his shot, Findley only got a sniff. Both will likely be in contention for the right to be the last guy picked for the RSA playground. Findley’s been playing to fine form and, with the MLS going into hibernation, one more big impression, in the hometown of US Soccer no less, couldn’t hurt.

• Having watched a few RSL games, I really like the play of Kyle Beckerman lately. The veteran in the middle has–in the games I’ve seen–been pretty much anywhere he’s needed. He has a unique ability to read where the RSL defense is going to break down and make himself available in support or to take on the offender. I’m going to call it Beckermania….props to you rasta man.

I dare say Blanco is just as agile as this fellow and definitely more visionary

• Here is a question I’d like to ask Chad Marshall, Jay Heaps, Omar Gonzales, Bobby Boswell or pretty much anyone on an MLS backline. Why, really why, is it so freaking difficult to get the ball away from a 36-year-old with a history of injuries who looks like Tummi Gummi? Actually, nothing but respect from TSG for Cuauhtemoc Blanco as he signs off from the MLS. Guarantee if that man had played at, say, Inter or Valencia he would have had a lot more global fans.

• Our brief read of a few rags on this match, many are talking about the prowess of Javier Morales being the key to Real unlocking the scoring, the player who has caught our eye the most on the offensive end for RSL is Russian Yura Movsisyan. We just checked the stats on Movsisyan and we’re astonished to find that he started 19 of the 26 games he played in this year. The biggest impact we’ve seen from the 22-year-old is when he’s come off the bench and completely changed the offensive complexion for RSL.

I would term RSL’s offensive pre-Yura insertion as “assiduous” while I would term RSL offense post-Yura insertion as “zippy.”

Does TSG not have enough observations to make that claim?

» Well, now it’s not just the French calling out their coach, it’s the other team. Ireland matches up with France and Richard Dunne has a comment or two for Raymond Domenech, who called the Irish team, “England’s B Squad.”

»Portugal look to qualify without Ronaldo against Bosnia Herze….I think you know, that I know how to spell the rest. Russia takes on Slovakia’s brother, Slovenia (he’s an inch shorter) and USMNT favorite Costa Rica battles with Diego Forlan at Uruguay. I hope Forlan lights them up. Sorry, the fan in me just came out.

All aboard, next stop:

Friendlyville (Population: Not Beckham)

» It feels like media’s sweeps week or something as there are just a ton of fun games on the docket.

» The Beckham-less Capellos take their messy chompers and a trio of lions to Qatar (of all places) to face the hosts of World Cup 2014, Brazil. The World Cup in Brazil? That could get dicey (or profitable). Hoards of men descending on a foreign nation where prostitution is legal and the exchange rate favorable. Oh boy….or is it a girl?

• Better grab your Grape Nuts and another green tea, because this game is on Fox Soccer Channel too, right after the US-Slovakia match.

• You could actually make an argument right now that the England backline is more ambulance-bound than their American counterparts. Ashley Cole, out. Glen Johnson, out. Luke Young, out and apparently retired. Starting at wingback for the Queen, the oft-injured Wes Brown on the right and Burnley whipping boy Wayne Bridge on the left. Yikes, we’ll take Specs and Bornstein.

• Conversely, Brazil counter with a fit Robinho, Luis Fabiano, Hulk, and Nilmar (6 goals in 8 appearances for the nattie side…better known to Yanks’ fans as the guy that took away JZA’s playing time at Villareal.) That should be quite a challenge for England’s makeshift defense.

• Let’s stick with Robinho for just one more second here. Why would a team that has Messi and Zlatan up top be possibly pining for the

petulent, immature Robinho? Thankfully, at this point, Barca has passed on the going rate for Robinho. Sure, why not fork over the cash so that the little baby can earn frequent flyer miles to Sao Paulo? Vicky, Christina, Barcelona, you’re too class…and too talented…. do what Robinho doesn’t do enough of…pass!

» Also on Saturday, the Diego Maradona Turf Sliders are hosted by La Furia Roja! of Spain. I’m really hoping that Argentina put together a good game despite their coach.

• Hard not to include The Maxi Rodriguez Goal clip when the boy is on the squad and playing in front of his club fans. Can’t watch this one enough.

• Fernando Torres’ groin has been pulled from the game (thank you, thank you). Ho-hum. A 10-0 record, 28 goals for and 5 against in qualifying. Spain’s still, obviously, the best.

Arjen: Shades of Landon?

» And finally, in what could be the most competitive and even match, the Azurri of Italy host USMNT future opponent, the Netherlands.

• USMNT evildoer Daniele De Rossi was just ruled out for this one. Patrick Viera pulled a Daniele De Rossi on De Rossi and now the Italian has a broken cheekbone.

• The other day I was asking myself the following question: “What soccer player does Landon Donovan most resemble?” The best answer I could come up with is Arjen Robben. Donovan clearly has a better free kick and plays more defense, but for shear look on the field, I’d have to go with Robben. Robben will form the strike trio up top this Saturday with Robin Van Persie and Dirk Kuyt. Solid.

Bu sezon Bayern Münih’  te transferlere rağmen sakatlıklar dolayısıyla başarısız bir cl sezonu olarak göze çarpıyor. Ribery, İvica Oliç ve Arjen Robben’ in sakatlıkları takım performansını etkiledi.  Van Gaal’ in sistemi oturamadan alınan kötü sonuçlar geleceğini muhtelemen etkileyecektir. Bordeaux takım oyununu iyi oynuyor. Deplasmanda dahi sistemden vazgeçmeyen Laurent Blanc istikrarlı futbolun ana sebebi. Kendisini Fransa milli futbol takımı forması giyerken Fransa 98′ de 2. turda Paraguay’ a uzatmalarda attığı golle hatırlıyoruz. Bu gol turu getirmişti. Stoper oynardı. Neyse konu sapmasın. Juventus’ un kaderi ise Chaban Delmas’ tan çıkacak puan veya puanlara bağlı. Yoksa bu aralar pek galibiyet alamayan ve Napoli’ ye 2-0 dan 3-2 maçı veren Ciro Ferrera için zor günler başlayacak demektir.Gerçi bir avantajı daha var. Bir sonraki maç ise Juventus-Bayern Münih. Gruptan çıkma konusunda tam bir final. Seyredilesi maç…

B GRUBU

Beşiktaş’ ın bu kadro kalitesiyle bence tek puanını aldığı grup. Devamlı rotasyon ve kadro istikrarsızlığı başarısızlığı da beraberinde getirdi. Mustafa Denizli Çeşme’ den imza için geri getirildiğinde bence sezon orada bitmişti. Bu sonuçlar da kendisinin ikinci sezon sendromu oldu. Gerçi Denizli’ nin kariyer rekoru kırdığını görüyoruz. 1 puan aldı sonuçta. Wolfsburg ise sezon başında Armin Veh’ i takımın başına getirdi. Geçen sezonki gol sayısını yakalayamadılar. Üzerine de defans bloğunun formu düşünce bu hafta itibariyle Bundesliga’ da 21 gol atıp 19 gol yediler. Deplasman başarıları da haliyle düştü. Cl performansları geçen seneyi düşünürsek pek iç açıcı değil. Tabi Beşiktaş’ ı yenmeleri gereken bir maçta 3-0 gibi net bir skorla yendiler. Buna rağmen Cska’ ya karşı dezavantajlılar. Deplasmanda Cska’ ya gidiyorlar ve Manchester United ile oynayacaklar. Cska ise Man. Utd. maçlarını bitirdi ve 1 puan kazandı. Bu puan onları 2 nci tura taşıyabilir. Beşiktaş ise umarız son bir gayretle bu karmaşadan yararlanıp Uefa Avrupa Ligi biletini alır… Umarız !

C GRUBU

Real Madrid’ de Alcorcos yenilgisinden beri Pellegrini sallantıda. Hadi Sevilla mağlubiyetinde mazeret vardı ama ya Alcorcos ? C. Ronaldo sakatladığından beri takım performansı giderek düşüyor. Higuain forma giriyor ama takıma zor giriyor. Los Galacticos’ a bu performans yakışmıyor. Milan ise kötü başladığı sezonda ise giderek form düzeyini yükseltiyor. Deplasmanda Real’ i 3 gol atarak yenmeleri performanslarının zirvesiydi. Marsilya’ nın nefesi hemen enselerinde ama Fransızlarla kendi evlerinde oynayacaklar. Real maçlarını de bitirdikleri için daha avantajlı olan Milan demek istiyorum ama sonuçta kendi evlerinde Zürih’ e 1-0 kaybeden bir takımda söz ediyoruz. Temkinli olmak lazım. Zürih bu grupta Milan’ a bir süpriz daha yapmazsa Milan çıkar. Marsilya’ nın Zürih’ i 6-1 yendiği maç 6-5 bitebilirdi. Fransızlar defans bağlamında zayıf.

D GRUBU

Chelsea’ nin ezici üstünlüğü bulunan grup. Atletico Madrid eski günlerini mumla aratıyor. Defans kurguları hemen hemen her maçta çöküyor. La Liga’ da ise dipte sayılırlar. Kun Aguero’ nun performansı ise ancak Chelsea’ den bir puan almaya yetti. Diğer puan Apoel’ den alındı ama Vicente Calderon’ da !  Son 10 senede transferden 350 milyon euro kazanan Porto grubu forse eden diğer takım. Grupta dikkati çeken şey ise Apoel’ i evinde yenmek zor. 2 maçta yenildiler ama Chelsea ve Porto’ dan sadece birer gol yediler. Kıbrıs Rum Kesimi ve Yunanistan takımlarının kendi evindeki maçlarda takım performansı seyirciyle birleşince sonuca böyle yansıyor…

E GRUBU

Puansız Debrecen’ in Liverpool’ dan daha çok gol attığı grup (!) Son iki maça girilirken Liverpool ile Mor Menekşeler arasında 5 puan fark var. Rafa iki maçı alayım ve Mor Menekşeler de iki maç üstüste kaybetsin diye dua etmeli. 24 Kasım Salı Fiorentina  – Olympique Lyon ve 9 Aralık Çarşamba Liverpool  – Fiorentina maçları kritik. Benitez başarı istiyorsa transfer politikasını değiştirmeli. Eğer devre arasında mali kriz içerisindeki Valencia’ dan David Silva ve David Villa Sanchez alınırsa istenen hedeflere yürünebilir. Geçen sezon bu takım premier lig’ de 38 maçta 2 kez yenilirken, bu yıl 11 haftada 5. mağlubiyetini aldı. Transfer olmazsa mağlubiyet serisi artar. Gareth Barry’ e gösterilen ilgi kendisine gösterilmeyince giden Xabi Alonso’ nun boşluğunu Alberto Aquilani ile dolduramadılar. Andriy Voronin, Robbie Keane, Lucas Leiva, Martin Skertel, Daniel Agger, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Albert Riera, David N’gog, Philipp Degen bence Liverpool kadrosuna yakışmıyor. Benitez’ in hakkını yemeyelim. Ryan Babel transferinde iyiydi kendisi ! Mor Menekşeler’ e ise tebrikler. ikinci tur için 1 puan almaları yeterli. Debrecen ise sempatik takım. Gol yiyor. Gol atıyor. Maçları puan alamasa da zevkli geçiyor. Lyon ise her zamanki gibi isabetli transfer ustası. Benzema gider Lisandro gelir. Lyon para kazanır. Değişmeyen ise OL’ nin ikinci tura kalmasıdır. Grubu da muhtemelen lider bitirecekler.

F GRUBU

Kaotik ortam. Kurban Berdiyev ve tespihinin Barça’ dan 4 puan aldığı grup. Bu işin şakası ama Rubin iyi takım oyunu ve biraz da şansın yardımı ile Nou Camp’ dan galibiyet ile döndü. Gökdeniz galibiyet golünü atarak sevinç yaşattı. Rus futbolunun Zenith ve Cska Moskova ile başlayan yükselişi Rubin Kazan ile devam ediyor. Oligarkların harcayacak parası çok sanırım. Konuya dönelim. Berdiyev’ in bu maçta geçen sene Guus Hiddink’ in Chelsea ile cl yarı finalinde aynı stadyumdan beraberlik çıkarttığı taktiği uyguladığını düşünüyorum. Kendi evlerindeki maçta ise  Bukharov ve Alejandro Domingues biraz dikkatli olsaydı Pep sadece soğuktan değil gerçekten donabilirdi. Aklıma gelmişken Domingues’ in bir senesi daha var Rusya liginde. Sonra üç büyük ligin yolunu tutar. Maç sırasında bir ara kendi başına Barça’ ya kafa tutan bu yeteneği birileri görmüştür herhalde…

Karışıklıktan faydalanan İnter ise son 5 dakikada son sıradan birinciliğe tırmandı. Dinamo Kiev ise son iki maçta İnter’ e karşı sergilediği defansif performansını sorgulamalı. Jose ise Pellegrini umarım gitmez diyeceğine kendi maçlarına bakmalı. Moratti bu harcamalar sonucunda daha iyi bir grup performansı isterdi herhalde. Barça’ nın cl deplasman performansı ise endişe verici. Bu beraberlikler başa iş açabilir 1 nci ile 4 ncünün arasında 2 puan fark olduğu grupta. Bundan sonra gruptaki her maç kritik !

G GRUBU 

Unirea Urziceni’ nin peri masalı devam ediyor. Onofraş Rangers karşısında sadece 1 puanı getiren golü değil 2 nci tur umudunu devam ettiren golü de attı. Ancak son iki maçı Sevilla ve Stuttgart deplasmanlarında. Maksimum dezavantaj. Yine de Rangers’ ı deplasmanda 4-1 yenerek sükse yaptılar. Gol attılar veya yediler fark etmez ama futbol oynadılar. Tebrik etmek lazım. Stuttgart ise zeki ama çalışmayan öğrenci. Soruların gelmesini bekliyor herhalde. Evlerindeki Unirea maçı son şans. Sevilla ise bildiğimiz gibi. Bu grupta onların ortalama performansı 2 nci turu yakalardı zaten. yakaladı da. Rangers ise ikide bir ” bana ne ben  premier lige gidicem ” edebiyatından vazgeçip transfere bakmalı. Grup maçlarındaki başarısızlıkları alışkanlık olmak üzere.

H GRUBU

Gunners büyüleyici. Ertem Şener’ in dediği gibi çoluk çocuk dünyaya kafa tutuyorlar. Olimpiyakos ve Standart Liege ile ikinci bilet yarışı kızışmış durumda. Liege - Olimpiyakos maçında aralarındaki fark Sinan Bolat idi. Zico bu maçı alırsak 2 nci turdayız demişti. Şimdi dengeler değişti. Arsenal ile maçları biten AZ 67 dahil üç takımın da şansı var. Tabii Arsenal’ in de grubu son maça kadar bırakmaması lazım. Sempati duyduğum Zico’ ya başarılar…

The Champions League fixtures which were so exciting a fortnight ago were mostly dreary affairs this week, as each team played the same team as they had previously, except this time in the others’ house. We ended up with 3 draws and a couple of blowouts, assuring me that being without internet/cable access for the majority of the evening was not a total tragedy. I’ll write up most of them, except the really useless ones (I’m looking at you, APOEL v Porto). Here they are, in no particular order:

AC Milan 1-1 Real Madrid – Well, the fixture that was so explosive last week ended without the same sort of fireworks this time around. Instead of ludicrous goalkeeping errors and 40-yard screamers, tonight’s match was graced by a pair of (comparatively) cheaply-had goals and one goal which was bafflingly disallowed. Kaká’s build-up to Real Madrid’s 29th minute goal showed a flash of the genius he used to have at the San Siro (and has failed to produce thus far for Madrid), but Dida made the initial save and it was up to Karim Benzema to tap the rebound past the bumbling Brazilian. It didn’t take long what had been a rather flaccid Milan side up to that point to galvanize (and equalize), when Gianluca Zambrotta was struck by the elbow of a sliding Pepe in the area and awarded a penalty. On 35′, Ronaldinho gleefully buried from the spot. Alexandre Pato almost gave i Rossoneri the lead moments later, with his volley finding the back of the net, but the goal was ultimately disallowed because the youngster had committed a foul in scoring it (maybe the foul was scoring it?). In the end, it would finish all level at the San Siro, and all level in Group C; Milan and Madrid sit tied with 7 points just above Marseilles.

Marseille 6-1 FC Zurich – Normally I wouldn’t give half a shit about this game. Swiss teams, French teams, it’s all Greek to me. However, the epic nature of the scoreline forces me to give at least a bit of a shout-out to l’OM, for whom 6 different individuals made an appearance on the scoresheet (well, 5 Marseille players and 1 Zurich via OG). In fact, it was Silvan Aegerter’s own goal that opened the floodgates for the visitors on 3′ – Fabrice Abriel would make it 2-0 on 11′, but Alexandre Alphonse pulled one back for his side on the half-hour mark. After the half, Mamadou Niang, Hilton, Benoît Cheyrou and Brandao would all net for Les Phocéens, while the home side would be left less than satisfied with their solitary goal. Quite a blowout!

Bordeaux 2-0 Bayern München – Les Girondins are progressing to the knock-out stages. As for Bayern, well, we’ll have to see. In the first 30 or so minutes of tonight’s match at the Allianz-Arena, it seemed like it would be the home side who would take the lead. Bastian Schweinsteiger proved a great danger as a dead ball specialist, causing the visiting defense all sorts of problems and coming close to causing a goal more than once. Bayern also might have gone ahead from the spot -players appealed for a penalty on a perceived Michael Ciani handball in the area, but the referee saw nothing; what die Roten wanted to be a spot kick would instead be a corner. Ultimately, it would be the French side who would get ahead on 37′ thanks to star man Yoann Gourcuff, who headed home after shaking off Mark van Bommel. After the break, Luca Toni had about 80,000 chances (duffed ‘em all) and Arjen Robben came on to greatly improve Bayern’s play, but the German side simply could not find the back of the net. Late in the game, Bayern fans began to depart from the stadium en masse, and those who did stay until the end were treated to the sight of Marouane Chamakh skipping past Hans-Jörg Butt to ease the ball into an empty net. Back-to-back losses to the French side for Bayern see them fall to 3rd in Group A – I knew this was the Year of the Underdog, but did it have to be the Year of the French by extension?

Juventus 1-0 Maccabi Haifa – Juventus continue to stay true to their recent Champions League mantra – do as little as you have to and scrape by. I’m sure Ciro Ferrara’s side is still reeling at the manner in which they let Sunday’s fixture against Napoli slip away, but they once again managed to beat the Israeli side (this time in Haifa) by a margin of 1-0. Mauro Camoranesi’s magic touch in first-half stoppage time was enough for i Bianconeri to slip past their hosts, who are now officially out of the competition with a grand total of 0 points. Juventus spent much of the second half patiently building up attacks and then listlessly watching them break down, as though they were simply happy to kill the time. And they were. Another half-assed performance, another victory for Juve. Go figure.

Agüero-Drogba strike force?

Chelsea 2-2 Atletico Madrid – Over the past two weeks, Chelsea’s goal differential was +19. That’s 19 for and 0 against, in all competitions. That included a 4-0 drubbing of Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge which prompted me to wonder how Abel Resino was hanging on to his job. Two weeks later, Resino is out of a job, and Chelsea have finally been scored upon. One could make a case to have this match renamed Sergio Agüero 2-2 Didier Drogba, as each prolific striker bagged a brace for his side to account for all 4 goals of the match (this time split evenly between the teams). Los Colchoneros took a second-half lead on 66′ when Agüero, just recently subbed onto the pitch, met the end of a cross with a sharp volley that left Petr Cech helpless on his line. Didier Drogba would take his time, but eventually single-handedly turned the match around for the Blues with a pair of goals on 82′ and 88′ – the latter being a supreme individual effort in which the Ivorian beat several defenders and buried his own rebound. However, Agüero was not about to be outdone, and on 90′ launched a strike from 30 yards which leveled the match for his side. New Atleti manager Quique Sánchez Flores will no doubt be disappointed that his team gave up the lead, but thrilled that they salvaged the draw – nevertheless Atletico are now officially out of the competition, while Chelsea are officially moving on.

Manchester Utd 3-3 CSKA Moskow – Sir Alex Ferguson’s men sealed their passage into the knock out rounds as Luis Antonio Valencia once more played the last-ditch heroics card. CSKA took the lead on 25′ through Alan Dzagoev, but Michael Owen equalized just 4 minutes later. Nevertheless, CSKA were undaunted, and within the next 20 minutes of play took a commanding 3-1 lead through Milos Krasic (31′) and Vasiliy Berezutskiy (47′). Darren Fletcher was booked on a strange call, after he looked to be set loose on goal and was then taken down in the box. Instead of a spot kick, the Scotsman received a yellow card. Paul Scholes and the aforementioned Valencia would bring it equal for United with Scholes’ goal on 82′ and Valencia’s in stoppage time. Moscow player Deyvidas Semberas was sent off after a bit of a spat late into injury time, but the Muscovites were nevertheless able to hold United to a 3-3 draw. Not a bad result from the Russian side, though it won’t help their Champions League aspirations this year.

VfL Wolfsburg 3-0 Besitkas – Luckily for Deutschland, one German squad was able to easily overcome their opposition this evening. Wolves took over Istanbul as Armin Veh’s side ran rampart at Inönü, with Zvjezdan Misimovic, Christian Gentner and Edin Dzeko finding the back of the net for their side. It seems that the key to obtaining an ‘always difficult’ away win in Turkey is to strike hard, and to strike often – take notes, Fergie.

Ugh… A good weekend for some, perhaps. As always, only the big games – ’cause no one gives a hoot how Sheffield Wednesday did (sorry, Sheffielders).

Liverpool 2-0 Manchester Utd – On friday night I sat in a pub with a friend of mine, who nursed his pint as he mourned his team’s downward spiral. He is, of course, a Liverpool fan. I told him not to worry – that they’d beat MUFC this weekend and they’d bounce back. I’m not sure exactly how much either of us believed what I was saying, but sure enough, the game rolled around and Liverpool came out on top at Anfield. The Scousers would survive a second minute scare when Wayne Rooney found the back of the net (only to be disallowed for offside) and would go ahead in the 65th minute thanks to a classy finish from Fernando Torres. Nemanja Vidic and Javier Mascherano would both be sent off in the dying minutes of the match and it would be the Frenchman David Ngog who would seal United’s fate in stopagge time, finding the net on 96′. So all you sad-eyed Scousers, rejoice! You’re back to winning – for now. And Rafa, Gillette and Hicks – you can breathe again too.

Chelsea 5-0 Blackburn – Rovers fans will not be rejoicing this weekend. Gaël Givet opened the scoring in Saturday’s match by deflecting Nicolas Anelka’s shot into the back of his own net on 20′. That would hold the Blues until the half, but on 48′ Didier Drogba won a spot kick for his side and Frank Lampard (despite a returning Joe Cole wanting it oh so badly) converted to double Chelsea’s lead. From that point on, the floodgates were opened: within the next 15 minutes Michael Essien buried another of his rare but famed long range efforts, Lampard bagged his brace, and Didier Drogba brought Chelsea’s tally to 5. Blackburn were completely overrun by the home side, who obviously wanted to show that last week’s defeat to Aston Villa was not a sign of futher weakness. Joe Cole also made a fantastic appearance, his first in the Premiership this year, running the visitors ragged and creating all sorts of chances for his side. In their last two fixtures the Blues have 9 goals for and 0 against. Not bad Carletto, not bad.

Arsenal 2-2 West Ham – Despite Arsene Wenger’s claim that the Gunners will pick up at least one trophy this year, his side were unable to pick up full points against cross-town rivals West Ham this weekend. First half goals from Robin van Persie and William Gallas looked like they might be enough to see the Gooners take full points, but late strikes from Carlton Cole and Italian substitute Alessandro Diamanti saw Gianfranco Zola’s side make a marvelous comeback – despite the sending off of Hammer midfielder Scott Parker. Seems like the trophies are still a long way away, Wenger.

Futbol:

Real Madrid 0-0 Sporting de Gijon - Sans-CR9 Madrid were unable to bounce back from their midweek loss to AC Milan and gain a positive result domestically this weekend. Los Merengues were held to a draw at El Molinón by the midtable side, who were kept afloat largely through the heroic efforts of their netminder, Juan Pablo. Kaká once again failed to impress in the white shirt, and Manuel Pellegrini’s side dropped points in La Liga for only the second time this season to fall three points short of Barcelona. Not the result Los Blancos were looking for – one can only imagine that just about everyone involved in that club is virtually counting down the days until their most expensive signing is fit again. But not I!

Villareal 2-1 Malaga – Unlike his current side, Manuel Pellegrini’s former squad were able to bounce back after a midweek European defeat to Rome’s other team and grab their first domestic win of the season. El Submarino Amarillo took the lead on 27′ thanks to the Brazilian Nilmar, only for Malaga’s Luque to equalize in the dying seconds of the first half. However, it wouldn’t take long after the break to restore that lead, as defender Capdevila found the back of the net on 54′ – his goal would be enough to see the home side grab all 3 points and that much-needed first victory. Finally, something (however little) to celebrate at El Madrigal.

Barcelona 6-1 Real Zaragoza – Unlike their arch-rivals, Barcelona showed that they weren’t too worried about their midweek loss to Rubin Kazan with a 6-goal thrashing of Real Zaragoza. Bullies. Seydou Keita bagged a treble, Zlatan Ibrahimovic bagged a brace and Lionel Messi bagged one of his own in a comfortable victory for the Catalan side. Jorge López pulled one back for his side on 77′, but it was little more than consolation as the Blaugrana ran rampant in the Camp Nou. I suppose the rest of us have now been warned…

AC Milan 2-1 Chievo Verona - In keeping with the theme of last-gasp comebacks and goal-scoring defenders, AC Milan were able to grab their second straight Serie A win after Alessandro Nesta, of all people, scored twice in the last 10 minutes of the match to earn his club all 3 points against the Flying Donkeys. Nesta’s heroic efforts cancelled out the 7th minute lead which Giampiero Pinzi had afforded his side and which had stood for the better part of the match. It seems that Leonardo’s men are finally finding their legs to stand on after a more-than-shaky start to the season this year – it’s about time, Rossoneri; it’s about time.

Inter 2-1 Catania - i Nerazzurri were able to reassert their position atop Serie A with a comfortable win over a struggling Sicilian side at the San Siro on Saturday (ooh, alliterative!). Catania fell behind early in the game as first-half goals from Sulley Muntari and Wesley Sneijder seemed to put the match well out of reach. However, their lead would be halved when keeper Julio Cesar erred and was forced to give up a penalty on 83′; which Giuseppe Mascara duly converted. Though Catania would pour forward after that in hopes of finding their equalizer, Inter afforded no clear-cut chances to their visitors and were able to secure victory, reasserting themselves atop the Serie A table after being usurped earlier that day. Speaking of which…

Sampdoria 4-1 Bologna – Call it the Antonio Cassano show. Call it the Daniele Mannini show. Call it whatever you want, but know that Sampdoria mean business. Sure, Bologna are relegation fodder and aren’t exactly the stiffest test Serie A have to offer, but then, neither are Catania. The visitors wasted no time, with Giampaolo Pazzini scoring on 7′, Daniele Mannini adding two of his own, and Reto Ziegler rounding it out to 4-0 within the next 30 minutes. Marco Di Vaio, easily Bologna’s best player, picked up a red card early on – however Pablo Osvaldo would find a late consolation goal for the home side. Though Fanantonio didn’t get his name on the scoresheet, he had a hand in two of his side’s goals and his creativity was, as ever, the driving force behind Sampdoria’s potent attack. After Saturday’s blowout, i Blucerchiati enjoyed a short time at the summit of Italian calcio, before Inter reasserted themselves later that afternoon. Another seriously impressive performance from the upstart side from Genova – the only question that remains is just how long they can keep this up.

That about sums it up.

Livorno 1-0 AS Roma - I have only one thing to say: this team needs to learn how to play without Totti. After last weekend’s loss to Milan and the midweek draw at Fulham, it appears that Claudio Ranieri’s honeymoon with AS Roma has come to an abrupt end. The team is now forced to face a harsh reality: Totti is out and they are expected to win anyways. Livorno are absolute bottom of the table and they just sacked their coach – today was Serse Cosmi’s debut as manager of the struggling side. For i Giallorossi to lose to this side at the Olimpico is nothing short of disastrous and the 1-goal lead afforded to the visitors by Francesco Tavano should have been easily overcome. Jérémy Menez and Mirko Vucinic proved ineffectual up front and while Daniele De Rossi looked solid while defending, perhaps it should be he who steps up to provide an offensive threat in the absence of Er Pupone. Of course, I’m being ridiculous – one of DDR’s problems is that he already tries to do too much at once. Stefano Guberti once again looked strong, bringing immediate life to the side after he replaced Menez at the half, and even Julio Baptista was thrown into the match in a last-ditch effort to quiet the boos resounding throughout the Olimpico. In the end, nothing worked and i Lupi are left to ponder another defeat to another weaker side. We need to snap out of this and fast.

Bari 2-0 Lazio – Misery loves company. Luckily for Romanisti, Laziali know little else. We weren’t the only team (not even the only team in Rome) to face defeat against a newly-promoted side this weekend – Lazio’s winless streak extends to 7 games as they were defeated handily by i Galletti, who put in a mighty performance at the Stadio San Nicola this evening. Bari went ahead on only 11′ thanks to Paulo Barreto, though they wouldn’t improve upon that lead until the second half, when Riccardo Meggiorini ran onto a ball from Vitaly Kutuzov and shot top corner on 69′. Lazio struggled throughout the manage and did not look capable of bringing themselves back into it – their fate was sealed with just 7 minutes to go when substitute Ousmane Dabo was sent off. Hey Romanisti, at least we’re not Lazio!

Juventus 1-0 Siena – Today Juve once again failed to live up to their billing of Scudetto contenders. With Livorno’s victory over you-know-who, Siena sit absolute rock-bottom in Serie A – yet it took La Vecchia Signora 72 minutes to break down the home side. It would be Brazilian hitman Amauri who finally found the back of the net for a side that doesn’t look nearly good enough to mount a proper Scudetto challenge. All in all, not impressive fare from Ciro Ferrara’s men, but I’m sure they’ll happily take home the 3 points.

Fußball:

Bayern München 2-1 Eintracht – Die Roten were spared embarrassment after a pair of late goals made up for the concession of a surprise lead. Though Louis van Gaal’s side were the more dangerous looking out of the gate, neither side were able to capitalize upon their first-half chances (ever-reliable Luca Toni struck woodwork yet again) and it would be the visiting side who would take the lead on 60′ at the Allianz-Arena when Alexander Meier cut behind Phillip Lahm and finished coolly. It would be substitutions that made the difference for Bayern, with the not-quite-fit Arjen Robben coming on to tap home the equalizer on 70′ and defenseman Daniel Van Buyten sealing victory on 88′ after being subbed on for the struggling Toni. The last-gasp victory should go a ways towards erasing midweek memories of Bordeaux and sees Bayern take 5th place in the Bundesliga.

Da sind sie die wichtigen drei Punkte und der Heimsieg gegen Eintracht Frankfurt!

War ja wieder ein hartes Stück Arbeit. Aber wenn wir dieses Spiel nicht gewonnen hätten bei dieser erneut starken Statistik: u.a. 9:3 Ecken, 62:38 Prozent Ballbesitz, 23:7 Torschüsse und 39:8 Flanken [siehe bundesliga.de]. Da hätten wir uns wieder grün und blau geärgert.

Es war wieder ein typisches Spiel. Der Gegner stellt sich hinten rein, wir rennen wie die blöden an und versieben jede noch so gute Torchance. Und dann kommt was kommen muss, der Gegner geht durch Alexander Meier (60.) urplötzlich und unverdient in Führung. Eine Chance ein Tor. Warum sind wir nicht so eiskalt?

Unsere Reaktion kam ja dann aber promt durch Arjen Robben. In der 70. Minute besorgte er den fälligen Ausgleich. Dieses Spiel hat mich dann doch sehr an das im letzten Jahr erinnert. Also wir 90 Minuten wie die blöden angerannt sind, und Nikolov jede noch so gute Torchance vergeben hat. Im Torchancen vergeben tat sich auch Luca Toni besonders hervor. So wurde er dann in der 86. für Martin Demichelis ausgewechselt. Natürlich gab es dafür ein Pfeifkonzert in der Allianz Arena – Stürmer raus und fünfter Abwehrspieler rein – und das bei einem Spielstand von 1:1 gegen Frankfurt. Van Gaal beorderte in der Folge aber Daniel van Buyten nach vorne und der Belgier stellte seine Torgefährlichkeit eindrucksvoll unter Beweis als er in der 88. Minute das Siegtor köpfte.

Schon sein fünftes Pflichtspieltor in dieser Saison (2 BuLi/2 Pokal/1 CL). Und ein ganz wichtiges noch dazu. Ob das jetzt ein genialer Einfall von van Gaal war oder einfach die am nahe liegenste Lösung wenn keiner der Stürmer trifft, darüber kann man sich streiten. Wäre es schief gelaufen, wäre van Gaal dafür an die Wand genagelt worden. So hat er alles richtig gemacht. Van Buytens Torgefahr überrascht übrigens nicht wenn man sich mal seinen Karriereverlauf ansieht. Als 19-Jähriger schafft er bei Sporting Charleroi seinen Durchbruch als er für die zweite Mannschaft in einer Saison 36 Tore erzielte und anschließend zu den Profis hochgezogen wurde. Dort machte er allerdings als Innenverteidiger Karriere.

Wie auch immer, ich finde das ganze ist auch eine Bankrotterklärung unserer Stürmer. Keiner der hochbezahlten trifft das Tor. Enttäuschend! Wobei ich doch hoffe das es zumindest bei Gomez aufwärts geht. Das 1:1 muss man eigentlich ihm gutschreiben. Und wenn van Gaal endlich mal über seinen Schatten springt und ihn mal von Anfang an bringt wird er es auch mit Toren zurückbezahlen. Ein Klose gehört schon lange aus der Mannschaft raus, der ist auf dem Platz doch überhaupt nicht vorhanden.

Wir werden sehen. Auf jeden Fall ein verdienter Sieg. Und wenn man da schon wieder überall in den Medien lesen muss “Dusel-Bayern” oder “Unverdienter-Sieg”. Scheiß egal! So einen Sieg haben wir mal wieder gebraucht. Den Ball in letzter Minute über die Linie gedrückt. Das hat uns früher ausgezeichnet und da müssen wir wieder hin. Auch wenn es uns Fans natürlich Jahre unseres Lebens kostet. Eine Alternative wäre natürlich wenn wir einfach mal unsere Chancen wieder eiskalt nutzen und den Gegner abschießen. Aber soweit sind wir noch nicht.

Es zählt jetzt nur Punkte zu sammeln und dran zu bleiben. Durch diesen Spieltag sind wir bis auf vier Punkte an den Tabellenführer Leverkusen rangerutscht. Die Ergebnisse unserer Konkurrenz waren einfach mal wieder perfekt (Schalke – Hamburg 3:3/Wolfsburg – Hertha 0:0/Leverkusen – Dortmund 1:1). Ein typischer Bayern-Spieltag mal wieder. Gegen Schalke und Leverkusen müssen wir sogar noch im direkten Duell ran. Zum Ende der Winterpause könnten wir bei optimalen Verlauf Tabellenführer sein. Die Mannschaft muss nur an sich glauben.

Wir können sehr zufrieden sein. Am Mittwoch gilt es im Pokal den nächsten Schritt nach vorne zu machen und das Viertelfinale zu erreichen. Gegner dann erneut die Eintracht dieses mal in Frankfurt.

Was passiert am Samstag (15.30 Uhr) gegen Eintracht Frankfurt? Zeigt die Mannschaft eine Trotzreaktion nach der erbärmlichen Leistung gegen Bordeaux, oder schlittern wir noch tiefer in die Krise rein?

Schwer zu beantworten diese Frage, vom Gefühl her erwarte ich ein richtiges scheiß Spiel. Die Eintracht wird wie jeder Gegner hinten drin stehen und wir werden uns brutal schwer tun den Abwehrriegel zu knacken. Schon allein da mit Ribery und Robben unsere einzigen Kreativspieler weiter ausfallen.

Robben ist immerhin zurück im Kader, aber ob er der Mannschaft auf anhieb helfen kann? Im Endeffekt kommt es doch aufs gleiche raus wie die letzten zwei Jahre als Ribery stets auf sich allein gestellt war. Er wurde von den Gegnern in die Mangel genommen und dann lief überhaupt nichts mehr. Das gleiche Schicksal wird wohl auch Rob ereilen. Das geniale Gegenstück Rib fehlt einfach.

Wie lange Ribery noch ausfallen wird ist nach wie vor offen.Wenigstens ist jetzt klar wie seine Entzündung der Patellasehne weiter behandelt wird. Ribery wird nicht operiert und soll sich einer konservativen Behandlung unterziehen. Dieser Beschluss wurde einvernehmlich von Hoeneß, Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt, Ribery und dessen Berater getroffen.  “Ich denke, dass dies eine gute Entscheidung ist. Ich habe mit ihm vereinbart, dass er die Verletzung erst ganz auskurieren muss”, so van Gaal der gleichzeitig vorsichtig optimistisch ist was den Heilungsverlauf angeht: “Ich habe die neuen Kernspin-Fotos gesehen. Da war eine deutliche Verbesserung zu sehen. Ich habe die Hoffnung, dass es schneller geht, als viele denken.”

Neben Ribery fehlen dem FC Bayern weiterhin Breno (Salmonellen-Infektion), Braafheid (Muskelverhärtung im Oberschenkel) und Olic (Muskelbündelriss in der Wade).

Ich bin gespannt wie sich die Mannschaft präsentiert und hoffe einfach nur auf drei Punkte. Egal wie wir die holen. Unberechtigter Elfmeter, Abseitstor, Webmley-Tor, Abstauber in der vierten Minute der Nachspielzeit,…

Wir brauchen diesen Sieg. Das wäre so enorm wichtig.

AUF GEHTS BAYERN KÄMPFEN UND SIEGEN!

Arjen Robben wird uns auch am Mittwoch beim CL-Spiel gegen Girondins Bordeaux (20.45 Uhr/live Sat1) fehlen. Also wird es wieder nichts mit dem “schnellen” Comeback. Ursprünglich hatte Louis van Gaal ja gehofft Robben bereits gegen Freiburg einsetzen zu können.

Der Holländer konnte am Montag nicht am Mannschaftstraining teilnehmen und absolvierte stattdessen eine Fitnesseinheit mit Reha-Coach Thomas Wilhelmi. Desweiteren wird er während die Mannschaft in Frankreich ist ein Einzeltraining absolvieren.

Neben Robben fehlen weiterhin Franck Ribery (Patellasehnenprobleme) und Ivica Olic (Muskelbündelriss in der rechten Wade).

Am Samstag (15.30 Uhr) ist es wieder so weit. Nach der Länderspielpause geht es um wichtige Punkte in der Bundesliga. Gegen den Aufsteiger aus Freiburg muss unbedingt ein Dreier her um den Abstand zur Tabellenspitze nicht noch größer werden zu lassen. Die beiden Klubs an der Spitze, Leverkusen und Hamburg, werden sich im direkten Duell selber die Punkte klauen.

Also eine ordentliche Ausgangslage. Nun zum Personal, das Louis van Gaal einige Sorgenfalten bereiten dürfte.

Am Donnerstag sah es noch nach einem Blitz-Comeback von Arjen Robben, nur zwei Wochen nach seiner Knie-OP, aus [> siehe hier]. Nach dem CL-Spiel gegen Juventus Turin waren die Ärzte noch von einer drei- bis vierwöchtigen Pause ausgegangen. „Robben ist unglaublich schnell zurück“, hatte van Gaal erklärt und angekündigt der Holländer werde “zumindest auf der Bank sitzen.” Doch zu früh gefreut, nach dem Abschlusstraining am Freitag klagte Robben über leichte Probleme und verzichtete daher auf die Reise nach Freiburg. “Rob” wird in München behandelt und soll wenn möglich beim CL-Spiel am Mittwoch in Bordeaux in den Kader zurückkehren. Hier gilt aber nichts zu überstürzen. Robben ist sowieso verletzungsanfällig, lieber eine Woche länger aussetzen.

Von Franck Ribery gibt es dagegen nichts gutes zu vermelden. Wie lange der Franzose (Reizung der Patellasehne im linken Knie) ausfällt ist offen! Ribery wird für unbestimmte Zeit nicht zur Verfügung stehen. Van Gaal: „Mal habe ich ihn eingewechselt und mal von Anfang an spielen lassen, aber die Verletzung kam immer wieder zurück. Wir haben abgesprochen, dass er zuerst die Verletzung komplett ausheilen muss, bevor wir mit ihm weiterarbeiten.“ “Rib” laboriert seit der Saisonvorbereitung an der Patellasehnenentzündung die ihn immer wieder zu Pausen gezwungen hatte. Ich denke die beste Lösung. Ein schmerzhafter Verlust, aber was hilft uns ein angeschlagener Ribery der sich dann vielleicht eine  noch schlimmere Verletzung zuzieht. Die Gegner gehen bei ihm sowieso nur auf die Knochen.

Und damit zum nächsten Ausfall, der aber bei weitem nicht so schwerwiegend ist. Martin Demichelis hat mit Argentinien die WM-Quali geschafft und im Spiel gegen Uruaguay sogar über 90 Minuten durchgespielt. Doch “Micho” ist erst am Freitag nach München zurückgekehrt und soll sich zunächst von den Reisestrapazen erholen – van Gaal verzichtet auf ihn. Allerdings brauchen wir ihn momentan auch nicht, da Badstuber und van Buyten einen guten Job machen.

Außerdem fällt Ivica Olic aus der sich einen Muskelbündelriss in der rechten Wade zugezogen [bayern-fansite berichtete].

Damit aber genug der schlechten Nachrichten und zu den guten. Mark van Bommel wird erstmal nach neun Wochen Pause wieder zum Kader gehören. Ebenso steht Luca Toni zum ersten Mal überhaupt in dieser Saison im Aufgebot für ein BuLi-Spiel

Beide werden wohl sofort in die Startelf zurückkehren. Wobei es bei van Bommel wohl nicht für 90 Minuten reicht.

Damit kommen wir zum System: Van Gaal wird aller Voraussicht nach auf ein 4-4-2 umstellen mit Klose und Toni/Gomez im Sturm. Im Mittelfeld werden dann van Bommel und Ottl eine Doppel-Sechs bilden und links von Schweinsteiger sowie rechts von Müller flankiert. In der Abwehr bleibt alles beim alten mit Braafheid, Badstuber, van Buyten und Lahm.

Die Marschroute ist also klar. Drei Punkte müssen her. Oder um Bastian Schweinsteiger zu zitieren: „Wir müssen jetzt eine Siegesserie starten. Lieber ein ‚dreckiges‘ 1:0, als schön spielen und kein Tor schießen. Wir müssen das Tor erzwingen wollen. Von mir aus kann es auch ein Handtor oder ein Elfmeter in der 90. Minute sein – Hauptsache wir gewinnen das Spiel.”

Dem ist nichts hinzuzufügen.

Die Diagnose bezüglich der Verletzung von Ivica Olic ist so ziemlich die schlimmste, die man bei muskelären Geschichten haben kann: Muskelbündelriss in der Wade – sechs Wochen kaltgestellt die Kampfsau. Langsam wird´s kriminell unsere Flügelflitzer betreffend. Olic gesellt sich zum verletzten Arjen Robben und Franck Ribery ist ebenfalls fraglich für Samstag. Gut möglich, dass wir gegen Freiburg mehr oder weniger notgedrungen zum 4-4-2 zurückkehren. Hätte den Vorteil, dass sich nicht drei Mittelstürmer um einen Platz streiten müssten. Luca Toni wird ja höchstwahrscheinlich am Samstag gegen Freiburg zurück im Kader sein. Klose sollte gut drauf sein nach seinem entscheidenden Tor gegen Russland. Und Mario Gomez ist immer noch unser bester Torschütze. Wär schon besser, zwei der drei zu bringen in meinen Augen.

Neben Luca Toni ist auch der Kapitän Mark van Bommel wieder an Board. Morgen um 19.00 Uhr steigt ja vor allem für die Rekonvaleszenten der Freundschaftskick bei Jahn Regensburg. Mal abwarten wie das läuft, aber gut möglich, dass wir auch van Bommel bereits am Samstag wieder auf dem Platz sehen. Wäre gut, eine positive Drecksau wie van Bommel ist uns derbe abgegangen zuletzt.

Unterdessen gab auch Martin Demichelis beim knappen 2:1 Sieg Argentiniens gegen Peru am Wochenende sein Comeback nach langer Verletzungspause. Auch er könnte am Samstag wieder im Kader zu finden sein.

Bin gespannt, welche Aufstellung Louis van Gaal nach dem Ausfall von Robben und Ribery aus dem Hut zaubert. Da wir es ganz sicher mit einem der, wenn nicht dem unberechenbarsten Trainer aller Zeiten bei uns zu tun haben, ist jegliches Spekulieren müßig. Mit Müller und Olic außen im 4-3-3? Oder doch wieder im 4-4-2 und damit wohl Gomez sicher von Anfang an? Ich bin gespannt wie ein Flitzebogen. In jedem Fall sind drei Punkte Pflicht. Daheim gegen Köln dürfen bei der jetzigen Tabellenkonstellation keine Punkte liegengelassen werden. Auf geht´s, ihr Roten!!

Am Samstag kehrt beim FC Bayern wieder der Alltag ein nach dem CL-Kracher gegen Juventus Turin. Die Mannschaft von Louis van Gaal trifft auf den 1. FC Köln (15.30 Uhr/Sky live).

Wenn ihr mich fragt aber alles andere als ein einfaches Spiel. Der Ausfall unserer beiden Mittelfeldwaffen Ribery und Robben [bayern-fansite berichtete] ist ein herber Verlust der weh tut. Und auch der Einsatz von Daniel van Buyten (Sprunggelenksprobleme) ist noch nicht gesichert – immerhin nahm er am Freitag am Abschlusstraining teil. Ob er auflaufen kann entscheidet sich am Samstag.

Trotz des Ausfalls von “Robbery” wird van Gaal weiterhin am 4-3-3-System festhalten.„Mit diesem System haben wir die letzte Zeit besser gespielt. Eine Rückkehr zum Zwei-Stürmer-Konzept würde bedeuten, dass wir dieses System nicht weiterentwickeln könnten“, so der Coach. Der Holländer weiter: „Wenn Arjen und Franck ausfallen, ist das ein schwerer Verlust. Aber für das längerfristige Ziel ist es wichtiger, dass wir weiter im 4-3-3 spielen.“

Olic (rechts) und Müller (links) werden Rib und Rob wohl ersetzen. Im Mittelfeld wird Ottl nach seiner guten Vorstellung gegen Juve wohl erneut den Vorzug gegenüber Tymoshchuk erhalten. Neben ihm werden wohl Schweinsteiger und Altintop auflaufen. Die Abwehr bleibt wie gehabt. Braafheid hat sich stabilisiert und ganz solide gespielt gegen Juventus. Wäre ein Fehler ihn jetzt rauszunehmen, er muss weiter spielen.

Bleibt noch das Problemfeld Sturm: Dort konnte bisher keiner der Millionenschweren Angreifer überzeugen. Van Gaal setzt wohl auf Klose und Gomez muss erneut auf der Bank platz nehmen. Ob Luca Toni wieder zum Kader gehört wollte van Gaal noch nicht verraten:  „Es könnte sein, dass ich ihn für die Bank wähle, aber wir haben vier Stürmer. Es wäre nicht notwendig.“

So oder so, Luca Toni wird seine Spielpraxis bekommen. Spätestens am nächsten Dienstag (13. Oktober), den dann trifft der FCB in einem Testspiel auf den Drittligisten Jahn Regensburg [> siehe hier]. Van Gaal möchte mit diesem Spiel den lange verletzten van Bommel und Demichelis Spielpraxis verschaffen und auch Luca Toni soll sich so weiter an die Mannschaft heranarbeiten. Da viele Profis auf Länderspielreise sind wird der Kader wohl auch noch durch mehrere Amateure ergänzt.

Wie schon weiter oben erwähnt, ein unangenehmer Gegener der FC. Schon beim letzten Gastspiel in München könnten die Kölner 3-Punkte entführen. Historisch gesehen hat der FCB gegen Köln die meisten Heimniederlagen (9) und Gegentore (50) bekommen.

Jedoch denke ich unsere Mannschaft hat trotz der Ausfälle von Ribery und Robben noch genügend Qualität. Köln sollten und müssen wir besiegen. Wir müssen unbedingt den Anschluss an die Tabellenspitze halten.

AUF GEHTS BAYERN KÄMPFEN UND SIEGEN!

Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal will be without Dutch forward Arjen Robben for around a month due to a knee injury.

Van Gaal was relieved by the news, as Robben’s injury is not as bad as initially expected.

“It’s not such a bad injury. The meniscus and ligaments are intact. Fortunately, the Bundesliga takes a break for internationals next weekend,” Van Gaal told the club’s official website.

The former Real Madrid winger sustained the knee injury during Bayern’s 0-0 Champions League tie against Juventus on Tuesday and was forced to leave the pitch in the dying seconds of the first half.

FCB chief medic Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt confirmed the diagnosis after the player underwent an MRI scan on Thursday.

Following the examination, Robben made his way to Augsburg, where renowned specialist Dr. Ulrich Boenisch will repair the damage surgically later on Friday.

Goal

Glück im Unglück für Arjen Robben: Die Verletzung unseres Holländers hat sich als nicht ganz so schlimm herausgestellt wie direkt nach dem Spiel befürchtet.

Am Mittwochabend war noch von einer schweren Verletzung wie Kreuzbandriss die Rede gewesen und einer daraus resultierenden langen Pause. Doch nach einer Kernspintomografie am Donnerstagvormittag bei Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller Wohlfahrt ist nun folgende Diagnose gestellt worden: Der 25-Jährige hat sich eine schmerzhafte Reizung der Plica (Schleimhautfalte) im rechten Knie zugezogen.

Damit fällt Robben die nächsten drei bis vier Wochen aus. Eine Operation ist ebenfalls notwendig, so dass sich Robben noch am Donnerstag nach Augsburg begab. Dort wir er von Dr. med. Ulrich Boenisch operiert.

Van Gaal zeigte sich erleichtert:  “Es ist nicht ganz so schlimm, aber natürlich schon ein Problem. Gott sei Dank ist bald Länderspielpause.”

Der Ausfall von Rob wäre ja noch zu verkraften, aber nun fällt auch noch das geniale Gegenstück Rib gegen Köln aus. Dies gab van Gaal am Mittag bekannt. Ribery leidet erneut an Patellesehnenproblemen. Wie lange der Franzose ausfällt ist noch unklar.

Und nun die dritte schlechte Nachricht: Auch Daniel van Buyten konnte wegen einer Blessur am Fuß am Donnerstag nicht mittrainieren. Bei ihm wird es sehr knapp mit dem Köln-Spiel.

Weiter ausfallen tuen ja ohnehin van Bommel und Demichelis die sich noch im Aufbautraining befinden.

Ganz schlechte Personalsituation vor dem wichtigen Spiel gegen Köln. Wir dürfen uns keine Ausrutscher mehr erlauben um oben dran zu bleiben. Drei Punkte sind Pflicht, aber zuhause gegen Köln haben wir uns in der Vergangenheit öfter schwer getan. Und die angespannte Personalsituation lässt mich auch nicht ruhiger schlafen. Jetzt müssen sich die Spieler aus der zweiten Reihe zeigen. Sosa, Baumjohann und Altintop sind gefragt. Und auch von einem Schweinsteiger erwarte ich das er noch mehr Verantwortung übernimmt.

Bin gespannt wie kreativ wir ohne Robbery sind. Eine echte Bewährungsprobe für unsere zweite Garde.

Mal ehrlich, Freunde. War das nicht ein geiles Spiel gestern? Das war kein 0:0 der besseren Sorte, das war ein 0:0 der echt geilen Sorte würde ich sagen. Ich hatte mir zwar natürlich zum Geburtstag drei Punkte von der Mannschaft gewünscht, aber ich bin alles in allem alles andere als enttäuscht.

Erstmal muss man den Hut ziehen vor van Gaals Konsequenz. Schwubbdiwubb sitzt 11 Millionen Mann Tymo (Spitzname T-44 nach dem gleichnamigen Panzer) auf der Bank und Andy Ottl steht völlig überraschend in der Startelf. Es gibt Leute, die es immer noch nicht kapiert haben, aber in dieser Mannschaft ist wirklich jeder wichtig. Und in dieser taktischen Disziplin, die die Mannschaft an den Tag legt, fügt sich auch absolut jeder völlig nahtlos ein, weiß was er zu tun hat und weiß was die anderen tun. Andreas Ottl hat ohne Frage ein sehr gutes Spiel gemacht, Diego bis zu seiner Auswechslung völlig kaltgestellt und über 90 Minuten zusammen mit Schweinsteiger die Zentrale komplett im Griff gehabt.

Aber manche lernen es einfach nie. Typisch dafür sind die Pfiffe im Stadion gegen Ottl nach ungefähr einer Stunde, in der er wie gesagt vorher alles abgeräumt und einen super Job gemacht hat, nur wegen eines Fehlpasses. Oder lassen wir es zwei Fehlpässe sein, völlig egal. Louis van Gaal hat das völlig zurecht nach dem Spiel in Sat 1 angesprochen, auch er versteht es nicht. Ich kann es nur wieder und wieder ganz deutlich sagen: Erschießt euch! Jeder, der gestern da mitgepfiffen hat soll der Welt einen Gefallen tun und sich einfach erschießen. Gottverdammte Vollidioten, ihr seid eine Schande für den FC Bayern München!

Aber nicht nur im Stadion läuft da einiges falsch. Was muss ich vor dem Spiel für einen Twitter Eintrag von einem (jetzt definitiv nicht mehr) geschätzten Blog-Kollegen lesen? “Ottl und Schweinsteiger im Mittelfeld. Das ist des FC Bayern München nicht würdig”. Ich nenn mal keine Namen, will hier niemanden diffamieren. Aber da krieg ich echt das Kotzen wenn ich sowas lesen muss. Ist es denn so schwer zu begreifen, dass wir eine Mannschaft sind? Wie guckt ihr Fußball frag ich mich da immer wieder. Ihr habt doch komplett den Schuß nicht gehört, wenn ihr immer noch nicht das System van Gaal begriffen habt. Jeder in dieser Mannschaft wird gebraucht. Und jeder in dieser Mannschaft zieht mit. Folglich hat jeder in dieser Mannschaft unsere Unterstützung nicht nur verdient, es ist sogar eine Selbstverständlichkeit. Es gab mal Zeiten, da war man stolz auf seine Spieler, wenn sie alles für den Verein gegeben haben. Und wenn es Eigengewächse waren, dann war man doppelt und dreifach stolz. Heute sind sie nichts weiter mehr, als die schwächsten Glieder in der Kette für diese oberflächlichen Möchtegern-Fußballsachverständigen, auf denen man munter einkloppen kann, um seine eigenen Komplexe für einen Moment zu vergessen. Ihr widert mich an, ganz ehrlich.

Aber davon lass ich mir den absolute geilen Auftritt der ganzen Truppe gestern nicht vermiesen. Es war ein großer Champions League Abend zweier großer und sehr starker Mannschaften, in dem wir über ganz weite Strecken des Spiels alles komplett im Griff hatten, schöne Spielzüge gezeigt und uns erstklassige Chancen herausgearbeitet haben. Jeder einzelne Spieler hat einen tollen Job gemacht. Und nebenbei ist das zur Realität geworden, was seit so langer Zeit bei uns propagiert wurde. Nämlich mit den großen in Europa wieder auf Augenhöhe zu kommen. Wir waren sogar einen Tick über Augenhöhe in diesem Spiel. Wir sind definitiv zurück auf Europas Fußball-Landkarte. Denn nichts von dem, was da gestern passiert ist, war in irgendeiner Form vom Zufall, oder von Tagesform, oder von Einzelkönnern abhängig. Das ist das Resultat eines konsequenten Prozesses unter Louis van Gaal. Und das war noch längst nicht das Ende der Fahnenstange, diese Mannschaft entwickelt sich immer weiter, da ist noch Luft nach oben.

Ich bin sogar so kess zu behaupten, mit uns ist schon dieses Jahr durchaus zu rechnen in der Königsklasse. Das wird auch deutlich, wenn man sich die Statements von Gianluigi Buffon und Ciro Ferrara nach dem Spiel zu Gemüte führt. Da schwingt schon eine ganze Menge Respekt mit. Etwas, wofür die Italiener in ihrer charmant arroganten Art grundsätzlich ja nicht grad bekannt sind.

Letztendlich fehlte natürlich das Tor, welches eigentlich mehr als überfällig war in diesem Spiel. Aber daraus ein Problem zu machen, wäre stark übertrieben. Denn es passt nunmal alles, bis auf den Abschluss. Das ist aber das kleinste Problem, das man haben kann. Solange die Ordnung und der Spielwitz stimmt, braucht man sich keine Sorgen zu machen. Irgendwann platzt der Knoten und dann schießen wir unsere Gegner aus den Stadien. Diese Phase prognostiziere ich schon für die nächsten Wochen vorraus. Wartet es ab, es kommen ein paar hohe Siege auf uns zu.

Da Schweinsteiger ja genannt war vorhin, noch eine kleine Anmerkung. Wer absolut resistent dagegen ist, einfach mal die Augen aufzumachen und zu sehen, wie sehr er Herzstück unseres Mittelfelds geworden ist in dieser Saison, der ist vielleicht trotzdem nicht ganz so verbohrt, sich wenigstens von Zahlen überzeugen zu lassen. Schaut einfach mal beim Kicker auf die Durchschnittsnote von Schweini, der ja Woche für Woche von euch runtergebuttert wird. Und vergleicht diese dann mit der von Olic, der Woche für Woche in den siebten Himmel gelobt wird. Huch…exakt die selbe?? Sachen gibt´s! Vielleicht rückt sowas ja mal einige Relationen gerade, wenn man schon nicht fähig ist es selbst zu erkennen.

Unterdessen scheint es in Sachen der Verletzung von Robben erste kleine Anzeichen von Entwarnung zu geben. Uli Hoeneß ist wohl optimistisch, dass Robben nur zwei bis drei Wochen nicht zur Verfügung stehen wird. In diese Zeit fällt ja sogar noch einer dieser nervigen Nationalmannschafts-Spieltage, von daher wäre das schon ganz gut zu verschmerzen. Hoffen wir das Beste!

Zum Spiel hab ich jetzt nicht allzu viel geschrieben, eher zu den Randerscheinungen. Aber das Spiel hat ja jeder gesehen. Nur wahrscheinlich wieder mit unglaublich verschiedenen Augen. Eine Tatsache, an die ich mich in diesem Leben glaube ich nicht mehr gewöhnen werde. Ich fand´s jedenfalls richtig geil gestern und ich freue mich spitzbübisch auf die kommenden Wochen.

Update: Jetzt auch auf FCB.de – Robben wird operiert und fehlt 2 – 3 Wochen. Ribery wird am Samstag gegen Köln auch fehlen.

WAS FÜR EIN SPIEL! Das war wohl mit Abstand eine der besten Leistungen in den letzten Monaten. Vor allem die erste Halbzeit war einfach zum Zungeschnalzen! Aber am Ende stehen wir wieder mit fest leeren Händen da. Nur, und man muss es wirklich betonen, NUR 0:0 gegen Juventus Turin. Und das nach einer ersten Halbzeit in der wir mit drei Toren hätten führen MÜSSEN!  Unglaublich.

Und damit zum Spielbericht…

Aufstellung/Personal: Van Gaal ist immer für Überraschungen gut, so auch gegen Juve. Olic, Breno und Tymoshchuk mussten auf der Bank platz nehmen und dafür schickte der Trainer Klose, Braafheid und Ottl auf das Feld. Taktisch änderte sich dadurch nichts und das bewährte 4-3-3 wurde beibehalten mit Braafheid als linken Verteidiger und Klose als Mittelstürmer. Ein tiefer Schlag dürfte die Nichtberücksichtigung vor allem für Tymoshchuk sein – aber er hat bisher auch viel zu wenig gezeigt.

Vor der Pause kam dann Ivica Olic für den verletzten Robben (45.) und eine halbe Stunde später durfte auch Mario Gomez ran (für Miroslav Klose). Taktisch änderte sich dadurch nichts.

Spielbericht – 1. Halbzeit: Von der ersten Minute an war gleich zu merken – der FC Bayern will hier was erreichen. Die Spieler waren alle heiß und Juve wurde förmlich überrant. Schon in der 4. Minute hätte der Ball mit etwas Glück im Tor sein können. Doch Thomas Müller wurde nach einem tollen Zuspiel von Robben zu weit abgedrängt, schafft aus spitzem Winkel aber noch einen Lupfer über Buffon der knapp am langen Pfosten vorbeistrich. Das war vielleicht ein Ding.

Der FC Bayern spielbestimmend und druckvoll – Juve nur in der eigene Hälfte ohne Aktionen nach vorne. Unglaublich wie wir die Italiener eingeschnürt haben. Juventus hatte in Hälfte eins nur zwei nennenswerte Offensivaktionen – beides Weitschüsse von Diego (18./19.) die Butt kein Problem bereiteten.

Und gleich danach rollte der nächste Bayern-Angriff. Was wir in Halbzeit eins gespielt haben war genial. Und dann ein magischer Moment: Ribery wird am linken Strafraumeck von Klose toll in Szene gesetzt, vernascht seine beiden Gegenspieler Grygera und Chiellini, und setzt dann frei vor Buffon aus fünf Metern Entfernung einen Lupfer an. Der geht aber knapp über die Latte! Was für ein Dribbling, aber ob es besser gewesen wäre den Ball ins lange Eck zu schieben?

Keine Zeit darüber nachzudenken. Doch nun war mal Juve dran. Camoranesi (33.) ließ Ottl am Strafraum wie einen Schulbuben aussehen und zog aus 20-Metern ab. Doch Butt konnte parieren, das war kein leichter Ball.

In der 34. Minute die nächste Drangphase. Erst scheitert Klose mit einem Flugkopfball, dann Müller aus kurzem Winkel und schließlich ballert Schweinsteiger den Ball aus guter Position in der Oberrang der Allianz Arena.

Das 1:0 war überfällig. Doch wer seine Chancen nicht nutzt….

Fast wäre der FC Bayern für seine Fahrlässigkeit bestraft worden. Doch Trezeguet setzte einen Drop-Kick kurz vor der Pause knapp am Tor vorbei.

Das war es dann. Nur 0:0 zur Halbzeit!

Spielbericht – 2. Halbzeit: Nach dem Seitenwechsel war beim FCB spürbar die Luft raus. Die erste Halbzeit hatte scheinbar zu viel Kraft gekostet und wurde nicht mit dem Tor belohnt. Nun hieß es zittern, wir kennen ja die Italiener die 88. Minuten scheiße spielen um dann in der 89. Minute das entscheidene Tor machen.

In der 60. Minute erst die nächste Großchace für die Bayern. Klose MUSS dieses Ding einfach machen. Ribery spielt flach in den Fünfmeterraum und der Miro kommt frei vor dem Kasten nicht zum Abschluss. Vielleicht zwei cm haben gefehlt um den Ball ins Tor abzufälschen.

So etwas rächt sich. Von nun an verflachte die Begegnung auch zunehmen und es schlichen sich beim FCB viele Fehlpässe und Ungenauigkeiten ein. Torchancen waren Fehlanzeige. So sorgte Iaquinta noch mal für Herzklopfen als er in der 82. Minute aus 14 Metern mit einem Drehschuss nur knapp am langen Pfosten vorbeizielt. Da haben nur ein paar cm gefehlt und die scheiß Italiener hätten das Ding gewonnen.

Das war es dann aber auch. Der Schiedsrichter pfiff dem FCB noch eine klare Konterchance in den letzten Sekunden ab. Es bleib beim sehr glücklichen torlosen Remis für Juve. Für uns ein verlorene Punkt.

Fazit: Zitat van Gaal nach dem Spiel: “Wir waren sehr dominant in der ersten Halbzeit.” Damit hat er auch recht. Ein wirklich gutes Spiel von uns. Aber wo sind die Tore? Wo sind die Treffer? Was nützt uns die ganze Dominanz und Torchancen ohne Ende wenn wir keinen Ball reinmachen? Wo ist der Killerinstinkt? Das muss dringend besser werden und bei so einer Besetzung im Sturm sollte es doch möglich sein einen Mann aufzustellen der auch trifft. Aber Pustekuchen. Darf doch nicht wahr sein.

Damit kommen wir zum nächsten Punkt meine Analyse: der Aufstellung. Für mich sehr überraschend das van Gaal Ottl gebracht hat. Nach den letzten Leistungen von Tymo aber nachvollziehbar. Jedoch hat man deutlich gesehen das Ottl nicht das Niveau für die Champions League hat. Viel zu langsam, schlechte Pässe und keine Übersicht.  Jedoch hat van Gaal der Auftritt gefallen und er hat unser Eingewächs gelobt. So belass ich es mal bei meiner milden Kritik.

Dagegen bin ich von Braafheid positiv überrascht. Solides Spiel von ihm. Auch wenn ich ab und zu Schweißausbrüche bekommen habe, wenn er am Ball war. Nach vorne jedoch zu zögerlich, abwartend und ohne Selbstvertrauen.

Dann möcht ich noch erwähnen das wir im gesamten Spiel acht Deutsche Spieler eingesetzt haben. Allein in der Startelf standen mit Butt, Lahm, Badstuber, Ottl, Schweinsteiger, Müller und Klose sieben Feldspieler. Später wurde noch Gomez eingewechselt. Da macht man uns noch mal den Vorwurf wir würden nur Ausländer im Kader haben. Und auch unsere Jugendarbeit kann sich sehen lassen. Lahm, Badstuber, Ottl, Schweinsteiger und Müller kommen alle aus unserer Talentschmiede. Wie war das noch mal, der FC Bayern hat keine gute Jugendarbeit? Die Spieler die die nötige Qualität und Einstellung haben setzen sich durch. So ist das nun mal.

Trotz allem kann man ein sehr positives Fazit ziehen. Eine geile erste Halbzeit. Jetzt noch die Chancenverwertung verbessern und wir schießen Juve aus dem Stadion. Darauf muss man aufbauen.

Die Mannschaft muss sich mal belohnen für ihren Aufwand. Wie schon gegen den HSV hat das Tor gefehlt. Sowas tut dann unheimlich weh wenn man auf diese Art und Weise Punkte verliert.

Tabellensituation: Der FC Bayern ist weiter Tabellenführer, wenn auch punktgleich mit Girondins Bordeaux (1:0 gegen Maccabi Haifa). Juventus Turin belegt mit zwei Zählern den dritten Platz. Haifa ist Schlusslicht.

Schiedsrichter:Warum der Engländer den Konter in der 92. Minute abpfeift wird wohl sein Geheimnis bleiben. Auch van Gaal hat das auf die Palme gebracht. Wenn dann muss er direkt nach der Ecke abpfeifen, aber nicht noch laufen lassen um dann mitten im Konter die Partie zu beenden. Der Referee hat im Laufe des Spiel immer mehr nachgelassen und hätte die Italiener konsequenter bestrafen müssen in vielen Zweikämpfen. Da ging es zum Teil nur auf den Mann bzw. die Knochen. Und auch für Meckern muss es mehr gelbe Karten geben. Ein Diego hätte da nicht das Ende der ersten Halbzeit erlebt.

Arjen Robben: Musste vor der Halbzeit verletzungsbedingt ausgewechselt werden, nachdem er sich das Knie verdreht hatte. Louis van Gaal befürchtet schon das schlimmste: “Ich denke, dass es eine schwere Verletzung ist.”

Kreuzbandriss? Bitte nicht! Im Laufe des Donnerstag Vormittag soll es laut Markus Hörwick eine genaue Diagnose geben. Wäre gaz bitter wenn Robben langfristig ausfällt. Dann hängt wieder alles an Ribery. Aber leider gilt Robben als sehr verletzungsanfällig. Noch gibt es aber keine Diagnose – hoffen wird das Beste!

[Update] Entwarnung bei Robben. Er fällt “nur” drei bis vier Wochen aus. Mehr dazu heute am späten Abend auf bayern-fansite.

Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal fears the worst following an injury to Arjen Robben during his side’s 0-0 draw with Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Speaking to NOS television after the game, van Gaal said, “I worry that I will be unable to use Robben for a long period.

“Players can usually feel how severe their injury is. I asked Arjen, and he said, ‘This feels bad.’”

Robben was known during his days at Chelsea for being especially injury-prone, and while he was able to avoid a single lengthy absence at Real Madrid, frequent visits to the physio were a matter of course.

Bayern fans are hopeful that the Dutchman will in fact me back on the pitch sooner rather than later, as he has hit two league goals already this season.

Morgen um 18:30 Uhr kann sie beginnen, die wilde Fahrt an die Tabellenspitze. Langsam kribbelt es schon gewaltig. Es liegt ein echtes Spitzenspiel in der Luft, mit gepflegten Hassgrätschen, Kampf um jeden Zentimeter und zwei Mannschaften, die sich gegenseitig das Schwarze unter den Fingernägeln nicht gönnen werden. Dem HSV stecken dabei hoffentlich die 120 Pokalminuten und die Enttäuschung über das Ausscheiden in den Knochen. Der psychologische Vorteil liegt meiner Ansicht nach, trotzdem die Partie in Hamburg stattfindet und der HSV sehr heimstark ist, auf unserer Seite im Moment. Wir haben einen ziemlich imposanten Lauf und die Hamburger sind nach anfänglichen Lorbeeren von allen Seiten in der Realität angekommen, die in ihrem Fall relativ ernüchternd sein muss. Dennoch – oder auch gerade deswegen – wird es mit Sicherheit mehr eine Schlacht als ein Fußballspiel, das habe ich im Urin.

Aber da bei solchen Spielen die Form der Mannschaften eine noch größere Rolle spielt, bin ich sehr guten Mutes, dass wir am Ende den richtigen Sieger sehen. Je dreckiger, desto schöner. Wird mal wieder Zeit alte Tugenden aufzuwärmen, wie zum Beispiel solche Spiele hochverdient durch ein Stolpertor in der Nachspielzeit zu entscheiden. Da freut nicht nur der eigene Sieg noch stärker, die Schadenfreude über die vollständige Demoralisierung des Gegners macht das Ganze jedesmal erst zu so einer richtig runden Sache. Das versteht nur ein Bayernfan. Wir lieben den Hass, der uns nach sowas entgegenschlägt, er ist die größte Form der Anerkennung.

Vielleicht sehen wir zum ersten mal auch Ribery und Robben zusammen von Beginn an. Der Trainer hat´s nur echt schwer und leicht zugleich zur Zeit. Wen soll er draußen lassen? Müller? Unmöglich! Olic? Unmöglich! Gomez? Wohl die einzige Möglichkeit und es könnte so kommen. In jedem Fall muss und wird irgendwie Platz da sein für solche Spieler von der Qualität von Ribery und Robben. Frei nach Naughty by Nature: Rib Rob Hooraaayy…hooo…! Aber ganz so simpel ist Fußball leider auch nicht. Beide zusammen können bei aller Qualität nur funktionieren, wenn die ganze Mannschaft, inklusive den beiden, mit absoluter taktischer Disziplin auftritt. Dann allerdings sind es natürlich Waffen, keine Frage. Ich bin gespannt, ob und wie sie tatsächlich von Anfang an zusammen spielen.

Ich brenne wie eine Fackel auf das Spiel. Samstag schon können wir die Weichen für eine großartige Saison stellen. Ich prophezeie: Wenn wir in Hamburg gewinnen, werden sich die anderen wieder so dermaßen in die Buchse vor uns machen, dass die Saison fast ein Selbstläufer werden könnte.

One of next year’s transfer sagas is expected to revolve around Franck Ribery’s move from Bayern Munich to Real Madrid, a path that Arjen Robben trod in the opposite direction this summer.

The duo were on the last cover of German magazine Kicker under the headline ‘Robbery’ as a tribute to the effect that the two wingers were having for Louis van Gaal’s side this season.

After Bayern’s 2-1 victory at the weekend against Nurnberg, Ribery apparently repeatedly refused to answer questions to the press as he left the ground, but Robben was more forthcoming.

“I wouldn’t advise him to go to Real Madrid because I want to play with him!” he joked in an interview with Noticias Cuatro.

With their debt of €327 million, it remains to be seen whether Ribery’s move would come about if los Blancos fail to win any trophies this season.

The Frenchman has also suggested that he may sign a new deal with the German side his current contract expires in 2011.

Last night the world’s classiest and most attractive football club, 1. FC Nuremberg took on a rowdy mob of football hooligans from Bavaria. Despite Nuremberg showing supreme skill and world class finesse, and clearly out classing their Neanderthal opponents, Bayern Munich managed to pay off the referee, cut a deal with the devil and shoved horseshoes in their back pocket to fluke out a late match victory. The first half saw “Der Club”, 1. F.C Nuremberg in top form, toying with their opponents who looked distraught, drunk and were repeatedly heard making racial slurs towards little girls in the crowd. After God intervened for some reason to deny Nuremberg at least three goals, the first half ended in a scoreless draw.

During the intermission, the Bavarian xenophobes prayed to idols of fortune and were visited by six warlocks bent on spreading misery to mankind. This was while Nuremberg players were posing for photo shoots with their sweet bods and using the money raised to combat the global economic crisis, the warlocks placed a curse on their starting line. Early in the second half, Olić, a descendent of a long line of ogres (or commonly referred to as Croatians), managed to score while stubbing his toe, scratching his crotch, and ogling a nun in the crowd. Nuremberg showed off their great strength of character by recognizing the warlock’s curse and making a substitution, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who promptly scored in a dazzling display of skill and sportsmanship. The Bavarian mafia, however, responded by holding the entire continent of Africa hostage, which quieted Choupo-Moting, realizing that the game was less important to him than the lives of billions.

The stalwart players from Nuremberg then proceeded to defend their opponents’ attack while literally dodging bullets from both the Bavarian fans and even some of the trainers. Finally Bayern Munich managed to sedate their opponents after hiring ninjas to choke Nuremberg players with rubbing alcohol-soaked rags. The Bavarian criminals, after a lot of hand balls, swearing, and inappropriate innuendos clearly audible to the orphans sitting in the front row (whose tickets were paid for by the golden-hearted Nuremberg players), scored with only ten minutes to spare, as their opponents lay unconscious on the field. The game finished with Nuremberg players giving a speech about the importance of staying in school and steering clear of drug use despite their tough loss. The speech was met with jeers from the Bavarian side, which clearly neither stayed in school nor has averted drug use.

Ok, so that is not exactly how the game happened.  In fact, the only thing even close to some accuracy here is the final score, which cannot be changed no matter what twisting or manipulating a reporter attempts to present.  When I was offered this position I was thrilled, and began to read blogs, newspapers, random websites, and whatever I could get my hands on to remind myself the best way to objectively report on the sporting events for the week.  Time and time again I found myself disappointed in the lack of objectiveness present in the German media.  I, as a first hand fan of 1. FC Nürnberg was crushed to see my team have to chalk up a loss to the Bayern, but when I sit here at my computer about to type the report, I realize that I still must report it.

This is of course somewhat of a thin line, as boring, dry reporting that completely ignores any opinion and sticks simply to facts would be horrifically boring.  I find it ironic, however, that in Germany, a country of people known to holding a death grip on rules and regulations can have so much subjective reporting going on.  I think personal opinions and ideas are wonderful (why else would I write a blog?), but there’s a time and place for that, it is called the opinions section in the newspaper, the only problem is we reserve that section for yahoos and wack-os who want to get on their soapbox and go off about politics.  Sheesh.

I do have to confess the reporters on bundesliga.de or even some of the commentators that are present on sky sports do a wonderful job of presenting the games with only slight bias and very objective commentary.  In addition, I find it fantastic that each game has only one commentator, unlike in America where I have to listen to one guy tell me what is happening in the game, and then listen to some old-timer homer analyze it and put his personal spin on it.  This duo or sometimes trio is found in almost every single sport in America, even soccer.  What’s worse?  How about when they put the attractive female correspondent on the field to interrupt the coach during the game or as he’s trying to think of changes at halftime?  Perhaps I can relate back to the NHL on NBC and how they have someone “between the glass”, meaning the reporter is basically next to the ice and between both benches.  Honestly, I do not care what his interpretation is of the “mood” of each bench, just tell me what happens in the game.

We have in Germany some of the best and most logical thinkers of all time.  German sports commentary should be no different.  I challenge more of the German media to be more objective, to present me an accurate recap of the match, and to once again capture my faith in its ability to present a both intriguing yet accurate article.  This cry is not to discourage creativity, nor is it implying that a hometown writer may not draw on his passion to rally his city around his beloved club.  Rather it is to make sure that when an article is written, one is able to read it and not be able to tell immediately from where the article comes from.  That type of objective yet interesting material is what truly makes a reporter great, and what keeps someone like me coming back to the same reporter time and time again.

Now, after my soap box rant, I believe it is time to look around the league and report on what has happened over the past couple weeks, and what we have to look forward to in the upcoming couple weeks.

Some objectivity from a few games:

First and foremost, FC Cologne, a team in which I have much love for, finally got its first victory this week against a struggling VfB Stuttgart.  Not even Jens Lehmann could stop the boys from Cologne as the,”Billy Goats” took three points (2 : 0) from the city made famous by Mercedes and Porsche.  Both clubs have been struggling this year, but had FC Cologne dropped this match, things would have begun to look extremely grim for the squad out of the Rhineland.  Zvonimir Soldo, the new trainer at Cologne, has had big shoes to fill after coach Christian Daum left after last season.  Lucky for him, he has had Lukas “der Prinz” Podoloski on his squad to try and bring the first Bundesliga champion back to the top of the table.  Podolski did not score in the victory over Stuttgart, and has tallied only one score this season.  However, with big games coming up against both Bayer Leverkusen and FC Bayern in the next two weeks, Der Prinz is going to need to come up with big scores to help pull his team out of the relegation spot.

“Der Prinz” Podolski holds the hopes of an entire city for a return to greatness, in the same way his uniform holds a picture of a goat fucking a circle.

As for Stuttgart, the absence of Gomez makes the front line of VfB look like a ghost town.  No one seems to be able to come up with any creativity, and the showing, or lack thereof, against Cologne last week is just another sign that this team is a skeleton of its former self.  If this team is going to rebound against an unbeaten Frankfurt team, as well as against an always strong Werder Bremen, both Thomas Hitzlsperger (who did not start in the last game) and Yildiray Bastürk are going to have to get the VfB engine going, and fast.

Secondly we need to examine the battle between the two unbeaten sides, Hamburg Sport Club (HSV) and Eintracht Frankfurt.  After 90 minutes both sides remained unbeaten after a strong battle between the perennial power HSV and the perennially fluctuating Eintracht.   Newly acquired Ze Roberto showed his value and brought the favorites into the lead early in the first half after an error by Frankfurt keeper Oka Nikolov.  The Hamburger continued to carry most of the game, coming very closely to doubling their lead in the first half through Piotr Trochowski, but it was not to be as the home side battled back and hung on for a thrilling 1:1 tie through Marco Russ.

The tie comes after a stinging loss (3 : 0) Hamburg suffered in the mid-week against an average Vienna team in the European League, and the HSV will have very little time to recover as they will be returning to their home crowd only to have the quickly improving FC Bayern opposite them.  The Hamburger will need to fix the leaks, steady the ship, and prepare for an offensive onslaught from the league’s most famous club.  In the following week they will have a bit of a breather against a struggling Hertha Berlin Sport Club (BSC), but as many reporters are saying, it is only a matter of time until Berlin begins to find their game.

Eintracht will find themselves facing off against two squads that normally find themselves at the top of the table with Stuttgart and Shalke 04 on the horizon.  As fore mentioned VfB has been struggling, but do not think that any easy points will be handed out.  Now againt Shalke Eintracht faces new trainer Felix Magath is attempting to continue his success he experienced with Wolfsburg last year, and the boys in blue out of the little town of Gelsenkirchen will be giving Frankfurt all, if not more, than it can handle.  My prediction: look for young gun Ivan Rakitić out of Croatia to make some noise against the team from Hesse.

Third and lastly, we need to take a look at Hertha BSC and the self destruction that is occuring in this club.  After beginning the season with a strong win against Hanover, the Berliner have suffered five straight losses and are in dead last in the table.  This week they suffered a 4:0 home loss against newly promoted SC Freiburg, and instead of looking like a team making improvements, it looks like a ship that is sinking faster and faster.  The score was already 3:0 at the half, and it appeared as if the capital city club simply ran out of gas in the second half, conceeding another goal and simply looking like a derailed train with little hope in sight.

This is a club that last year ended high in the table, having one of its best fall seasons ever and coming up just short in the last few weeks, dropping to fourth place.  The team had the highest of hopes for this season and with the win against Hannover it all seemed set to repeat last years great run.  However, currently it seems Hertha BSC needs more than a couple patch jobs, but possibly a complete makeover if they are to not only work their way up the table, but stay in the first league.  Berlin has HSV and Hoffenheim coming up in the two weeks ahead, both teams are in the top four, and if we do not see change in personal this week without different results, heads will begin to roll in the capital.

Dutch international Arjen Robben left Real Madrid in order to join Bayern Munich back in August, and though the tricky winger has impressed at his new club, he has made it clear that he is still improving.

“I can get a great deal better because I know I’m not yet in peak physical condition,” he told the club’s official website. “I am enjoying my football again – I know I will never be asked to forego my attacking instincts. It matters a lot to me, and that’s why I decided to come here.

“I’m playing every game, and that’s important in helping me pick up my rhythm. I’ve played 90, 80 and then 90 minutes here, three games in seven days, and that’s a big difference compared to my time at Real.

“But I’m noticing just how much I’m playing. I’m very tired. But that’s what you need as a player – matches and rhythm – and the more you play, the fewer injuries you pick up.

“Franck Ribery and I are already starting to build a good relationship on the field. Franck will get better once he’s over his physical problems. We can both improve. I hope we end up forming a productive pairing. I’m really happy to be playing with him.”
