Obama is taking politicking to a new low. Always he answers question without answering them. Wait, thats been done for years. The difference? When Obama does it, I feel as if someone just gaveled the logical portion of my brain with a cannister of oozing toxicity of twisted rhetorical slime.

Bueno, después del éxito del anterior post vamos con otra noticia que, aunque vieja ya, me pareció un puntazo en su momento. Copio y pego de la web de Fotogramas:

Curiosa cuando menos es la noticia que nos llega del otro lado del Atlántico, concretamente del estado norteamericano de California, donde se ha aprobado una normativa para convertir una zona portuaria en zona residencial. Hasta ahí, todo normal.

Pero el gobernador, el ex actor Arnold Schwarzenegger ha vetado el plan y ahora viene lo curioso: en la carta que ha enviado al congresista Tom Ammiano para informarle de su decisión, hay incluido un acróstico bastante ofensivo.

Si tomamos la primera letra de cada una de las frases, se puede leer la ingeniosa leyenda: “Fuck you”, que creemos no necesita traducción. Como es obvio, Tom Ammiano defiende que el mensaje es claramente intencionado, y ha criticado el sentido del humor de Schwarzenegger. El portavoz del gobernador, por su parte, declaró: “Dios mío, ¡qué coincidencia!”.

Pentru mulţi, partea superioară a pieptului reprezintă o zonă musculară „încăpăţânată”, iar datorită existenţei forței gravitaţionale – care încetineşte procesul anabolic, este bine ca pieptul superior să fie lucrat prioritar, la începutul antrenamentului pentru piept. O creştere suplimentară a pieptului se poate obține făcând serii de împins din înclinat cu ganterele la unghiuri variate ale băncuţei rabatabile.

Antrenamentul se începe cu serii de împins cu ganterele la unghiul cel mai mic al băncuţei, alegânduse o pereche de gantere cu care se pot efectua aproximativ 8-10 repetări. După terminarea seriei vom lua – obligatoriu – o pauză, după care vom ridica băncuţa la un unghi imediat superior şi vom efectua alt set a câte 8-10 repetări – şi tot aşa până vom ajunge într-o poziţie aproape verticală cu trunchiul. Cu cât creştem unghiul mai mult – cu atât mişcarea se mută pe deltoizi şi pe partea superioară a pieptului, favorizând astfel o creştere mai rapidă a muşchiului pectoral. Combinată cu o alimentaţie şi o refacere optimă, această rutină de serii va „şoca” pieptul superior, obţinând astfel noi progrese semnificative.

Dacă, în timp, rutina nu mai dă rezultate, putem continua – dupa ce am efectuat în prealabil seriile mai sus menţionate – cu partea inversă a mişcării iniţiale: scădem unghiul băncuţei până când planul este aproape orizontal.

De menţionat este faptul că antrenamentul necesită schimbări neîncetate pentru fiecare grupă ce trebuie lucrată, în vederea evitării plafonării musculare. Cea mai bună metodă de evitare a plafonării este să adăugăm noi rutine sau exerciţii bazate pe mișcarea de împingere cu ganterele.

Metoda mai este cunoscută şi sub numele de „Metoda lui Arnold” pentru pieptul superior.

I saw this one on Memorial Day when I was supposed to be cleaning out my car’s trunk. All those dead birds are getting cramped. (Ooops, there’s that Malaysian thing I’m not supposed to talk about.)  

The Terminator franchise is really easy to understand if you don’t try to understand it. In the first film, an evil computer named SkyNet decided that, in order to make the planet Earth all nice and peaceful, it should kill every human. Of course, humanity is nothing but annoying, and they refused to go along with SkyNet. But not at first. Oh sure, no one minded when SkyNet bought GM, and people cheered when SkyNet took over all the banks, and when SkyNet put tolls on every New York bridge and tunnel, raised the subway fare to $4.85, and made taxi riders share cabs with random lunatics people loved it, but when SkyNet tried to mulch 93% of Earth’s population to stop global warming, even Mayor Bloomberg thought that it was going too far. He had proposed to mulch only 35%.  

SkyNet sent a terminator back in time to kill the woman who would one day give birth to the leader of the resistance. Don’t ask me why. It is simpler if you don’t ask questions. This killer robot looked just like Arnold Schwarzenegger- and yes, I spelled that correctly. Don’t expect me to do it again. I could do a lot of governor jokes here, how he wielded his veto power, etc, but frankly that would be a lot of typing.  

To protect Sarah Conner, the resistance sent back a guy named Kyle Reese. His job was to keep her alive so she could give birth to John Conner, the resistance leader. In a wild plot twist that no one saw coming, unless you were watching the film, Kyle became John’s father. So in other words, John sent his buddy back in time for a booty call that would ensure John’s own birth. And somewhere along the line they crushed Arnold.  

In the next film, John Conner is a totally annoying kid. You really wanted him to die. In this film, SkyNet, using the brains of a fart, sent ANOTHER terminator back in time to kill him. Man, you’d think a super-intelligent hyper-computer would learn from its mistakes. So, d’uh, the resistance sends someone back in time to protect him. What’s the twist? This time, the terminator is a good guy sent to save John Conner. And yeah, it is played by Arnold again. Lots of stuff blows up and John Conner is saved.  

But things don’t go well, as the third film, with yet ANOTHER Arnold terminator sent back in time to kill John Conner, ends with the creation of SkyNet and the beginning of the end of humanity. A real upper, that film.  

This latest film has no suspense because it takes place before the first film. In other words, you know that SkyNet will win the big battle. You know that the resistance will go on. You know that John Conner won’t die. You know that John will find Kyle Reese. All of these things were revealed way back in the first film and are the objects of absolutely no suspense whatsoever. These are fixed, unchanged events.  

So what is this film about? The central questions are:
Will SkyNet win the big battle? YES
Will the resistance go on? YES
Will John Conner die? NO
Will John find Kyle Reese? YES  

At this point, I must caution you that my movie reviews may contain spoilers.  

The film was good, the special effects were good, and the action was good. All it missed was some gratuitous female nudity but you can’t have it all.  

I also saw the big movie blockbuster of the summer, Grease 2. Hey, I saw it one cable, that counts.

Anyways, all of us in City Zoo are mighty glad the game wasn’t until 3pm. The reason being, our batshit crazy show the night before at Whiskey Dix w/ Jak Locke & The War Office.

I have to say, I’m damn glad Whiskey Dix has that big honkin projector at their place because now all the bands that play there have some extra dimensions to play with in their sets. Both The War Office & Jak Locke played to the backdrop of the Mel Brooks film “Blazing Saddles”

So after many beers and the return of our pre-show shot, we decided to slap on a little video show of our own. Here’s a couple of the images we used.

Does anyone have a spare loincloth that I could borrow?  The Conan audition was terrific.  Tremendous.  Fulfilling.

But first, the “I’m auditioning for Conan” exchange is priceless.

I’m auditioning for Conan.
What, like as a writer?
No, no…  Conan the Movie.
How is Conan going to shoot a movie when he’s filming The Tonight Show five days a week?
(Slight Pause)  They’re rebooting the Conan Franchise.  You know, Arnold, giant sword, crush your enemies, James Earl Jones as a reptile, lamentations of the women…?
(Blank stare…)  Oh, Conan, Conan.
Yes.  Conan, Conan.

We needed to pick two scenes out the of the five that were selected from the script.  My criteria was fairly simple.  I wanted to find scenes that would showcase the human, humane and analytical side of the character.  In my mind, it was the road less travelled.  As an example, when Gerard Butler auditioned for 300, do you think they had him simulate a battle scene in the room, or do you think they gave him the “what would a free man do” scene between he and his wife?  I’d bet my book collection it was the latter.¹  When I have a sword in my hand, sitting on a horse with glycerine covering my shoulders and a crew of hundreds managing villages on fire, I’ll be able to channel the inner beast.  For now, the quiet moments were much more important.  So that’s what I found.

Oh, and  I really wanted to say the word “Crom”.  Did that, too.

Chad McCord and I switched up our practice a little bit.  Normally we run the scenes over and over with Chad giving me little notes along the way.  This time, we barely ran the scenes at all.  Instead we tried to find a specific motivation behind every line.  Reciting lines in a “fantasy” movie is tricky.  Simply put, the lines are fantastical.  If you ground them and commit to them, they work.  If you don’t they fail spectacularly.

Quick aside: There really is no such thing as a bad script.  The script is the script.  Make it work.  If you can’t take a line on a page and graft it to your person, you are failing as an artist.  Anyone that says otherwise can’t reconcile their own deficiencies.  Or they’re really, really stupid. End of quick aside.

So Chad sent me on my way with a solid plan.  Said plan was executed.

Honestly, I wish there was more to say.  (You may not know this, but I like waxing poetic.)  We set an objective and I delivered in the room.  The casting director appreciated my scene selection for the exact reason I anticipated, we did each scene in one take, got to know one another for a little bit and that was that.

On second thought, there were two interesting things about the audition:

1. I wasn’t nervous.  All the adrenaline that comes with auditioning was still present, but I was able to stay calm. I’m not totally sure why yet.  When I figure it out, I’ll let you know.
2. When we finished the second scene, I asked the casting director if he wanted another option on the first scene we shot so “the director could have some different levels to look at”.  He thought the first scene worked because of the levels I attached to it.  My response: “Okay.  I want the director to look at the first scene and say ‘that’s the guy’.”

Where the hell did that come from?  When I said it, I meant it.  And you could see it register in the casting directors face.  As a business person he appreciated it.  At the end of the day, will it have an impact?  I don’t know.  But I’m awfully glad it came out of my mouth.

To me, this movie is still out in space a little bit.  (Space in this instance being Bulgaria.)  My agent is following up this morning.  We’ll see.

Some housekeeping notes.

• Not going to get a crack at the series regular on True Blood.  They were gunning for a specific look and found it before I got my turn.  That show is going to be around for a while.  In a similar situation next year I’ll have an 0-1 Visa and another year of experience.  We’ll have our moment.
• Still waiting on the two Canadian shows I mentioned earlier in the week.

Campania “Verde pentru Biciclete”

este prima iniţiativă din Timişoara care încurajează adoptarea mersului pe bicicletă ca şi alternativă ecologică pentru deplasarea prin oraş. Scopul este de a atrage atenţia asupra importanţei si beneficiilor mersului pe bicicletă, de a evidenţia faptul că există biciclişti pe străzile oraşului şi de a atrage sprijinul autorităţilor locale pentru construirea mai multor piste pentru biciclete.

Rezultatele obtinute de-a lungul unui an de campanie „Verde pentru Biciclete” sunt următoarele:

o    4400 de numere de biciclist distribuite

o    Peste 3000 de semnături pentru crearea de piste pentru biciclete adunate (online şi fizic, la evenimentele desfăsurate)

o    Acţiuni pentru biciclisti aproape in fiecare lună : Numărătoarea Bicicletelor (25 octombrie 2009), „Măsuri de siguranţă in trafic” (22 noiembrie 2008), “Amintiri pe două roţi” (8 decembrie 2008-25 ianuarie 2009), “Siguranţa în trafic a tinerilor biciclişti”(12 februarie-28 martie 2009), “Numărătoarea de primăvară”(25 aprilie 2009), “Plimbare de plăcere la Pădurea Verde”- inaugurarea traseelor nou marcate de la Pădurea Verde (16 mai 2009), “ROcicleta- Ziua copilului pe bicicletă” – 1(unu) Iunie Biciclist (31 mai 2009), Ture Cicliste Bănăţene „Verde pentru Biciclete” (iunie – august 2009); Cupa Cetăţilor (5 septembrie 2009) – parteneriat cu CS Gratzu, „Micul Dejun Biciclist” (21-25 septembrie 2009); am luat de asemenea parte la Festivalul Bega Bulevard (iunie 2009) şi la Festivalul PLAI (septembrie 2009)

I read earlier this year in Advertising Age that Brown-Forman’s Southern Comfort liquor brand was going to spend all its media budget online.  A more recent article in BrandWeek expands on that headline in light of the first wave of the campaign.

The campaign both creatively and strategically stands out from among other recent rebranding efforts (Wendy’s, for example).  First, the decision to shift media spending online is smart, effective, and shows a great deal of foresight on Southern Comfort’s part.  Traditional TV has too many restrictions for when and how alcohol advertisements can play.  Rather than settle for the same highly competitive commercial schedules that every other alcoholic beverage seeks, Southern Comfort decided to target their consumers much more effectively–online, when they watch their TV on Hulu or NBC.com.  Not only does this loosen the restrictions surrounding their ads, but it is also lets them much more selectively hone in on their desired buyers (21-29 year old men).  I’m sure the move will allow them to stretch their media dollar much further, too.

Second, the creative work from Arnold Worldwide is a noteworthy change from Southern Comfort’s past messages.  A previous campaign highlighted consumers’ “SoCo” nickname for the drink, among other bland advertising.  This newer campaign gives the brand much firmer positioning.  Each ad responds to the question “What is Southern Comfort?” with answers that focus on the drink’s New Orleans heritage and its creator, M. W. Heron.

The campaign also smacks of account planning because I’ve always asked myself the same question as the commercials–what is Southern Comfort, and when would I use it?  Obviously I knew it was a “southern” drink, but the New Orleans aspect of this newer campaign gives that heritage a much more tangible time and place in history.

All in all, a smart move for Southern Comfort, and I’m sure the sales will reflect that.
