As an Interior Designer I often get asked by clients “what should I select for my walls, they are so bare?” Bringing the right into art to your office or home environment more visually interesting and emotionally satisfying.

When I break down a room, it really is that the beauty in it comes from a sum of the parts, not one particular one. So that naturally puts the pressure on someone like me to make sure that all of the details from paints, furniture, lighting, art and accessories are all perfect in that room.

I encourage my clients to investigate artwork for themselves. It can be an exciting and rewarding discovery exploring galleries, markets, hearing the stories behind the artwork and maybe meeting the artists themselves. They can evoke so much feeling too; sentimental holiday memories or perhaps it’s your own creation. I can help to fit in with the rest of your interior design plans to the best effect in your home or business. Creating a flow and balance of elements throughout the space is important. When hanging the art the goal is to be able to enjoy it at a natural level and relate the art to wall size.

Hanging just one piece of art, or a whole gallery wall, this is the step that unifies a room and adds that extra layer of drama.

Use frames an mats that are different sizes and shapes yet compliment one another. When lighting is directed to the arrangement, it commands even more attention. This type of lighting should be subdued and not produce glare.

This canvas make a statement sitting on the floor and works perfectly with the mix of old and new

Popular art shelves are a great way to add interest and take up very little space.

I like the eclectic feel of the abstract collection by creating an interesting focal point

Hanging colorful kids artwork can add some pizazz to a space

Symmetrical collections are often used to create the popular gallery effects. In this instance, BIGGER is better to balance the streamlined sofa.

Found objects and texture can create a nice accent to a mantel

Create a gallery out of a hallway. In a long hallway, I place photos or art only on one side. Make a collection cohesive through the subject matter, in this photo each piece is a nude or figure study, but in a mix of media.

An otherwise blank wall is filled here from floor to ceiling just about with one large photograph separated into four pieces to make a fun vertical statement

I’ve actually done something similar to this before for a client – having a canvas painted to suit a room and hung it like a headboard to define the bed space

Wonderful, warm, contemporary. Hanging art in an evenly spaced grid is a traditional way to make a grouping feel like a single large piece of art.

Small Frames in Small Spaces: Hang smaller framed pieces of artwork in cozy spots such as a book shelf or oddly shaped corner.

Frames can take the place of artwork. I like how the left side of the collage is lower then the table
