Acqua sulla Luna per me che sono una fantasiosa è il ritrovamento della mitica Atlantide, che secondo Platone scomparve proprio per un maremoto.

Il famoso diluvio universale presente nelle leggende di antichissime civiltà , potrebbe essere un resoconto di avvistamenti notturni da parte dei primi abitanti della terra, che guardando al cielo come ad un sistema da decifrare , lo scrutavano con molto interesse ed attenzione, magari soffermandosi a scoprire i misteri della Luna ,qualcuno ha visto una sera ,proprio sul nostro satellite , delle comete cadere sulla Luna e produrre nell’impatto una massa d’acqua enorme che poi sparite le stesse comete ha fatto supporre che una civiltà di benessere fosse scomparsa senza lasciarne più traccia.

Oppure dallo stesso impatto di caduta d’acqua nella collisione tra le comete e la Luna siano effettivamente scomparsi degli esseri viventi che abitavano il nostro satellite magari con un’atmosfera climatica meno fredda ed impervia alla sopravvivenza di organismi viventi, si vuole perchè nella sua rotazione e nel suo moto la stessa Luna venisse irradiata dal calore solare e quindi con temperature climatiche più soggette alla riproduzione di vita. In fondo il famoso big bang è stato generato da un’esplosione di calore.

Nel 1938 l’alto ufficiale Heinrich Himmler (allora capo supremo delle forze dell’ordine del Terzo Reich) organizzò una ricerca in Tibet allo scopo di trovare le spoglie degli Atlantidei bianchi.

Acqua sulla Luna immagini e commenti riprodotti dal sito Nasa Immagini prese direttamente dal sito della Nasa che proiettano la visione dell’impatto del Centuaro un proiettile sparato di notevole peso in tonnellate per verificare l’esistenza dell’acqua sulla Luna.

Le ipotesi di questo ritrovamento eccezionale sul nostro satellite sono svariate la più accreditata sembra quella che alcune comete siano cadute sulla Luna e abbiamo prodotto acqua dovuta alla loro stessa composizione idrica, altre ipotizzano la possibilità che l’acqua,sotto forma di ghiaccio, presente sulla Luna sia stata generata dal vento solare, che penetrandone la superficie ha formato crateri di ghiaccio , anche perchè la zona dove è stata individuata l’acqua è quella meno irradiata dal Sole, quindi l’acqua stessa si è conservata grazie alla zona di raffreddamento.

 Il proiettile Centauaro lanciato dalla missione LCROSS nell’impatto di penetrazione ha prodotto una deflagrazione di massa gassosa che ha generato un surriscaldamento facendone evaporare parte del liquido presente nell’impatto di superficie.

Questo è quello che ho capito io leggendo la cronaca del ritrovamento.

Di seguito ho riportato alcune foto del cratere lunare bersaglio del proiettile Centauro e poi una foto della morte di una stella della costellazione del Toro una nebulosa distante miliardi di anni luce dalla terra.

 La stella della costella zione del Toro

Spettacolare la morte di una stella nella costellazione del Toro è stato osservato sulla Terra come la supernova del 1054 dC Ora, a quasi un migliaio di anni più tardi, un oggetto super denso – ha chiesto una stella di neutroni – lasciato dall’esplosione è visto vomitando una valanga di particelle di alta energia nel campo di detriti in espansione conosciuta come la Nebulosa del Granchio. X-ray da dati di Chandra fornire indizi importanti per il funzionamento di questa potente cosmica “generatore”, che è la produzione di energia al ritmo di 100.000 soli. Questa immagine composita utilizza dati provenienti da tre dei grandi osservatori della NASA.

Il Chandra X-ray immagine viene visualizzata in blu, l’Hubble Space Telescope immagini ottiche sono in giallo e rosso, e di immagini a infrarossi del telescopio spaziale Spitzer è in viola. L’immagine a raggi X è più piccolo degli altri, perché gli elettroni estremamente energetici che emettono raggi X irradiano via la loro energia più rapidamente di quanto in basso a elettroni emettono luce ottici e infrarossi.

Insieme a molti altri telescopi, Chandra ha più volte rilevato la Nebulosa del Granchio nel corso della durata della missione. La Nebulosa del Granchio è uno degli oggetti più studiati nel cielo, rendendo veramente una icona cosmica.

‘The whole power productive of water they called Oceanus, and named its symbolic figure Tethys. But of the whole, the drinking-water produced is called Achelous; and the sea-water Poseidon; while again that which makes the sea, inasmuch as it is productive, is Amphitrite. Also, the power productive of corn-crops, which is Demeter, they associate with her, as producing power in her. The moon is also a supporter of Kore. They set Dionysus also beside her, both on account of their growth of horns, and because of the region of clouds lying beneath the lower world.

The power of Kronos they perceived to be sluggish and slow and cold, and therefore attributed to him the power of time: and they figure him standing, and grey-headed, to indicate that time is growing old.

The Curetes, attending on Chronos, are symbols of the seasons, because time journeys on through seasons.

Of the Hours, some are the Olympian, belonging to the sun, which also open the gates in the air: and others are earthly, belonging to Demeter, and hold a basket, one symbolic of the flowers of spring, and the other of the wheat-ears of summer.

The power of Ares they perceived to be fiery, and represented it as causing war and bloodshed, and capable both of harm and benefit.

The star of Aphrodite they observed as tending to fecundity, being the cause of desire and offspring, and represented it as a woman because of generation, and as beautiful, because it is also the evening star-

Further, reason is composite: in the sun it is called Hermes; in the moon Hecate; and that which is in the All Hermopan, for the generative and creative reason extends over all things. Hermanubis also is composite, and as it were half Greek, being found among the Egyptians also. Since speech is also connected with the power of love, Eros represents this power: wherefore Eros is represented as the son of Hermes, but as an infant, because of his sudden impulses of desire.

La stella della costella zione del Toro

Ever wondered what the gods of Olympus would be like in today’s world?  Well, Artemis is a control freak who walks dogs for a living and pines for her hunting beasts that she had to put down when they moved into a smaller house.  Apollo shags anything that moves and is trying to start up a tv show where he predicts the future.  Eros believes he is a Christian, and tries to convert his mother Aphrodite, who works for a phone sex company.  Zeus has gone mad and lives in the attic.

 All in London.  Where they are all getting tired and grey and sick of life.  This book,  Gods behaving badly by Marie Phillips, is certainly a humorous take on the ‘where are they now’ plot.  It wends its way through the underworld and the meaning of death, and just how much a good cleaner is worth when the carpet hasn’t been swept for 400 years. 

I’d like to say that it explores religion and the value of belief, but really it just touches the surface.  Which makes it a better story for my part, because then I get to think about what it could all mean.  It’s a good story that flies by.  And makes you ponder just how long life can be sometimes.

Rey de dioses y mortales. Gobierna todo el Olimpo. Es el dios de los fenómenos atmosféricos y sus atributos son el rayo, el águila, el toro y el roble. Era hermano y esposo de Hera con quien tuvo tres hijos: Ares, Hebe y Hefesto (otros dicen que fue Ilitía). Pero tuvo más hijos con otras diosas y mortales.

Hera/Juno

Hermana y esposa de Zeus. Su principal labor era presidir los nacimientos y las bodas. Sus atributos son la vaca, el pavo real y el león. Se la representa con corona, símbolo de las grandes diosas, y una granada en la mano, símbolo de la fertilidad. Se la conocía como una diosa celosa y vengativa con las diosas y mortales con las que Zeus la engañaba.

 Hades/ Plutón

Dios del inframundo y de los muertos. Considerado como el invisible gracias a un casco que porta, reinaba sobre los muertos con la ayuda de los demonios que controlaba. El mito cuenta que vive en el inframundo con Perséfone, hija de Zeus y Deméter, a quién raptó y convirtió en reina. Era un dios temido y muy respetado, y aunque se creía que era cruel y malvado, en realidad era un dios bastante pasivo y justo.

Hestia/Vesta

Diosa del fuego que calienta y da vida a los hogares. Prometió a Zeus que permanecería virgen y este le relegó cuidar los hogares y de las familias, por eso apenas sale del Olimpo y se mantiene alejada de las disputas entre dioses y mortales.

Poseidón/Neptuno

Dios del mar y los terremotos. Cuando estaba tranquilo mantenía el mar en clama y protegía las islas de las fuertes mareas, pero cuando se enfadaba golpeaba el fondo del mar con su tridente y provocaba terremotos, hundimientos y naufragios. Los navegantes le dedicaban sus oraciones antes de zarpar. Era esposo de la ninfa Anfítrite y con ella tuvo muchos hijos, la mayoría héroes.

Deméter/Ceres

Diosa de la agricultura, protectora del matrimonio y las leyes sagradas. Controla las estaciones del año. Fruto de su relación con Zeus nació Perséfone, que fue raptada por Hades. La diosa decidió paralizar la vida de la Tierra mientras la buscaba hasta que Zeus intervino. Se decidió que Perséfone pasaría seis meses con Hades y otros seis con su madre. Por eso cuando Perséfone esta en la Tierra, ésta es fértil y los campos florecen; y cuando está con Hades los campos se secan.

Atenea/Minerva

Diosa de la sabiduría y la guerra justa. Fue considerada el principal apoyo de los héroes. Era la protectora de la ciudad de Atenas. No se le conoce ningún amante y por eso se la consideraba una diosa virgen. Nació de la cabeza de Zeus cuando éste engulló a Metis mientras estaba embarazada. Sus símbolos son el olivo y la lechuza y se la representa armada con su égida y su armadura. Es una diosa guerrera que participó en varias batallas clásicas como la guerra de Troya.

Apolo/Febo

Hijo de Zeus y Leto y hermano gemelo de Ártemis. Es el dios del sol y la belleza humana. Considerado un dios apuesto tuvo muchos amantes, pero a quien realmente quería era a Dafne, una ninfa a quien su padre transformó en laurel. Por eso, el símbolo de este dios es precisamente el laurel; además de otros como el delfín o el cuervo.

Ártemis/Diana

Hija de Zeus y Leto y hermana gemela de Apolo. Se mueve por los bosques y parajes salvajes en donde caza junto con sus ninfas. Es una diosa vírgen, cruel y muy vengativa, aunque atractiva y de aspecto muy femenino. Dice el mito que el cazador Acteón la vio desnuda mientras se bañaba y ésta lo transformó en ciervo. También se dice que castigaba a todos aquellos mortales que la olvidaban en sus cultos, o cuando ésta les ordenaba algo y no lo cumplían. Se la representa cazando rodeada de animales salvajes.

Ares/Marte

Hijo de Zeus y Hera. Es el dios de la guerra y, como tal, disfrutaba de las matanzas y el derramamiento de sangre. Todos los demás dioses le odiaban excepto su amante Afrodita y su tío Hades, porque enviaba al inframundo a los guerreros jóvenes que mataba. Aunque era un dios guerrero, en ocasiones era humillado en combate por otros dioses. Sus símbolos son el perro y el buitre y se le representa armado de pie o en un carro tirado por corceles.

Afrodita/Venus

La diosa del amor y la belleza femenina nació de la espuma que generaron los genitales de su padre Urano cuando fueron arrojados al mar. Siempre llevaba un cinturón bordado que provocaba un amor irresistible y por eso era envidiada por las demás diosas. Estaba casada con Hefesto, pero le era infiel con dioses y mortales, entre ellos Adonis y Ares. Se la suele representar con corona y vestidos provocativos, aunque es más común representarla desnuda.

Hefesto/Vulcano

Dios del fuego y los metales. También es dios de los volcanes. Se dedica, desde su fragua, a fabricar armas para dioses y héroes y regalos para las diosas. Es hijo de Hera, aunque no está tan claro si también lo es de Zeus. Hay varias versiones sobre su infancia, pero todas coinciden en que fue arrojado al mar y se quedó cojo. Aunque era feo se casó con Afrodita quien le fue infiel con Ares. Éste confesó todo al sufrido marido, lo que le provocó un enorme enfado. Por eso un día, diseñó una red y la colocó en la cama de los amantes. Cuando estos se tumbaron quedaron enredados y Hefesto, para vengarse, llamó a todos los dioses del Olimpo para que los mirasen.

Hermes/Mercurio

El mensajero de los dioses era el protector de comerciantes, ladrones y tramposos porque era embustero y habilidoso. Además de ser mensajero, ayudaba a las almas a llegar al inframundo de Hades. Era hijo de Zeus y de Maya y se le representa llevando un casco con una pluma, símbolo de los viajeros, o un gorro alado. También lleva zapatillas aladas y una vara mágica. En los relatos clásicos se cuenta que apoyó a los griegos en la guerra de Troya, y que ayudó a Ulises a escapar de la isla de Calipso.

Dioniso/BacoLíber

Dios del vino, de la locura y del éxtasis. Era hojo de Zeus y de Sémele. Su misión como dios era hacer que todo el mundo olvidase sus penas, y la mayoría de las veces lo conseguía bebiendo y montando orgías. Sus principales simbolos son el vino, la serpiente, el toro y la hiedra. Las llamadas Bacanales, eran las fiestas donde se le rendía culto y se realizaban actividades contrarias a todo tipo de ley, por eso se prohibieron. En Roma estaba identificado con el antiguo dios itálico Líber Pater.

Eros/Cupido

Dios de la atracción sexual, el amor y el sexo. Su equivalente romano era Cupido, también llamado Amor. Es representado con aspecto de niño y con alas, aunque éstas no siempre aparecen. Su procedencia no está del todo clara: unos dicen que nació del Caos; otros, que era hijo de Hermes y Afrodita. Los poetas lo reflejan como un dios que, aunque con aspecto infantil, es capaz de producir profundas heridas con sus flechas. Cuentan que Apolo se burló de su capacidad como arquero y en venganza hizo que se enamorara perdídamente de Dafne.

The theme of gender-changing, whether by one’s own hand or choice or by another’s, occurs frequently in Hellenic mythologies. It is accompanied, often, by gender-reversal; by gods and daimones acting as the opposite gender, rather than actually becoming the opposite gender. Part of this is undoubtedly due to the gender fluidity of the gods (and certain gods in particular), and part to the necessity of their act for their own gain, or for the gain of the entire kosmos. In this essay, I will be discussing, in-depth, the three most notable occurrences of gender-changing – Hermaphroditos’, Agdistis-Rhea-Kybele’s, and Attis’.

The most memorable case of gender-changing is that of Hermaphroditos, the god of hermaphrodites, effeminate men, masculine women, transsexuals, transgenders, etc. Hermaphroditos’ gender-change (or, more correctly, gender-merge) is also his primary mythology. He is rarely named in the literature that points to the Erotes, although he is numbered among them, both by his parentage and divine function; and even the mythology of his birth is short and barely-considered. His pre- and post-merge mythology is barely touched upon; despite his Olympic parentage, he seems to have been all but forgotten by the Classical writers, in all respects other than detailing his merge with the nympha Salmakis.
Hermaphroditos (or Atlantius, as he was once/otherwise known, according to Hyginus, Fabulae, 271), ‘whom in Mount Ida’s caves the Naiades nurtured’ (Ovid, Metamorphoses, 4.28ff), was a youth comparable in beauty only to Adonis, Ganymedes, Endymion, Hyakinthos, Narkissos, Hylas and Khrysippos. It is interesting to note, here, that several of these most beautiful youths–Adonis, Hyakinthos and Ganymedes and, to a lesser extent, Hylas–all experienced a gender reversal, which will be discussed in Gender-Reversal in Gods and Daimones.
When he was fifteen–’when thrice five years had passed’ (Met, 4.28ff)–Hermaphroditos ventured from Mount Ida, ‘eager to roam strange lands afar’ (Met, 4.28ff), and eventually came upon Salmakis’ ‘limpid shining pool’ (Met, 4.28ff). Salmakis, upon seeing the beautiful youth, declared her love for him. He, who ‘knew not what love was’ (Met, 4.28ff), rejected her as she ‘besought at least a sister’s kiss’ (Met, 4.28ff). Pretending to accept his rejection, the nympha Salmakis withdrew from sight; and Hermaphroditos, thinking himself alone, stepped into her pool and ’stripped his light garments from his slender limbs’ (Met, 4.28ff). Salmakis watched him until he dived into the pool; and that–in succumbing to the pull of her water–made him hers, seemingly, for she ‘flung aside her clothes and plunged far out into the pool and grappled him’ (Met, 4.28ff). Hermaphroditos struggled to free himself and, at last, she managed to gain such a hold on him that ‘her clinging body seemed fixed fast to his’ (Met, 4.28ff), and she beseeched the gods to never let their bodies part. The gods (though it is unknown which gods) accepted the prayer and ‘both bodies merged in one, both blended in one form and face . . . they two were two no more, nor man, nor woman–one body then that neither seemed and both.’ (Met, 4.28ff) Hermaphroditos, now merged with Salmakis, emerged from the pool, saw that ‘the waters of the pool, where he had dived a man, had rendered him half woman’ (Met, 4.28ff) and beseeched his divine parents, Hermes and Aphrodite, that ‘whoso in these waters bathes a man emerge half woman, weakened instantly’ (Met, 4.28ff). His parents agreed; and ‘drugged the bright water with that power impure’ (Met, 4.28ff).
Diodorus Siculus described Hermaphroditos, after the merging with the nympha: ‘Some say that this Hermaphroditos is a god and appears at certain times among men, and that he is born with a physical body which is a combination of that of a man and that of a woman, in that he has a body which is beautiful and delicate like that of a woman, but has the masculine quality and vigour of a man.’ (Diodorus Siculus, Library of History, 4.6.5.) Diodorus Siculus then continued to note that ‘there are some who declare that such creatures of two sexes are monstrosities, and coming rarely into the world as they do they have the quality of presaging the future, sometimes for evil and sometimes for good.’ (Library of History, 4.6.5.)

The above quote of Diodorus Siculus can be applied, in turn, to the monster-god Agdistis, born of the Phrygian Sky God and Earth Goddess–Ouranos and Gaia–who would later become Kybele, equated with Rhea as Rhea-Kybele, mother of the gods.
Agdistis was, according to Pausanias, born when Ouranos (or, rather, the Phrygian sky god – who Pausanias equates with Zeus, strangely), ‘let fall in his sleep seed upon the ground, which in course of time sent up a Daimon, with two sexual organs, male and female.’ (Pausanias, Guide to Greece, 7.17.8.) Fearing Agdistis–the bi-sexed, and therefore aggressively, and by some accounts, literally insanely, sexual god–the other gods ‘cut off the male organ’ (Guide to Greece, 7.17.8), thus effectively changing Agdistis, a bi-sexed god, to Rhea-Kybele, a solely female god. An almond tree grew from Agdistis-Kybele’s castrated organ, and a nympha daughter of the river-god Sangarios ‘took the fruit and laid it in her bosom, when it at once disappeared, but she was with child.’ (Guide to Greece, 7.17.8.)
The child born was the youth Attis; and as he grew, his beauty, which was ‘more than human’ (Guide to Greece, 7.17.8) drew Agdistis-Kybele’s eye. She fell in love with him; and he ‘conquered the towered goddess with pure love’ (Ovid, Fasti, 4.222). Attis swore to her that he would ‘desire to be a boy always’ and that if he ever cheated, the one ‘I cheat with [will] be my last’ (Fasti, 4.222). He cheated, either by having an affair with the nympha Sagaritis (Fasti, 4.222) or by an attempt at marrying a king’s daughter (Guide to Greece, 7.17.8).
Agdistis-Rhea-Kybele, in divine wrath and madness, either then killed Sagaritis–by cutting down the nympha’s tree; ‘her fate was the tree’s’ (Fasti, 4.222)–or showed up at the wedding of Attis and the king’s daughter, whilst ‘the marriage-song was being song’ (Guide to Greece, 7.17.8); either version, though, caused Attis to descend into instant madness. Attis ‘bolts to Dindymus’ heights’ (Fasti, 4.222) and ‘went mad and cut off his genitals’ (Guide to Greece, 7.17.8), until ‘no signs of manhood remained.’ (Fasti, 4.222.) According to Pausanias, she then ‘repented of what she had done to Attis, and persuaded Zeus to grant the body of Attis should neither rot at all nor decay’ (Guide to Greece, 7.17.8); effectively, then, immortalising him.
This myth–beginning with Agdistis’ conception and ending with Attis’ immortal rebirth–has several common themes. The first, of course, is gender-changing; Agdistis, the bi-sexed, became Rhea-Kybele, a mother goddess, and simultaneously impregnated Sangarios’ nympha daughter, and thus became a father goddess, too. Attis, the boy born of the nympha and Agdistis’ castrated genitals, castrated himself, in turn, and ‘became a model: soft-skinned acolytes toss their hair and cut their worthless organs’ (Fasti, 4.222), thus effectively changing his own gender - and although his gender was changed by his own hands, it was caused by Agdistis-Rhea-Kybele. The second important theme is accidental pregnancy: the Phrygian Sky God’s/Ouranos’ impregnation of Gaia, the Earth, creating the bi-sexed Agdistis; and then Agdistis’ castrated genitals’ impregnation of Sangarios’ daughter, creating the lovely Attis. The entire myth continues the theme of ‘creatures of two sexes are monstrosities’, as suggested by Diodorus Siculus; and is a reoccuring theme within Hellenic mythology. Perhaps the other gods are wary the raw, fertile, mad power of bi-sexed gods; or, perhaps it was simply the prejudices of Classical society, made into divine acceptance through the mythos.

In Gender-Reversal in Gods and Daimones, I will be further exploring the gender switches in the Greek mythos; including Zeus’ gender-switch into Artemis, Adonis’ androgynous nature, Ganymedes’ and Hyakinthos’ apparent femininity and feminine values; and others.

If it weren’t for the fact that I know Johns is leaving this book after issue six, I would be okay with this Blackest Night interlude focusing on Superboy-Prime versus Black Lantern Alex Luthor but with this interlude, it means we are only getting one more issue of Superboy and that just sucks. Oh well. This was still good. It was great to see Earth-Prime comic shops and Superboy-Prime reading them to find out what happens next. And of course it was just awesome to see my  favorite Legion (The Legion of Earth-Prime) back! But I got to say that we just saw Superboy-Prime in Legion of Three Worlds and I think he is being brought back way too soon. The Legion back-up was probably the best it has been yet with a sweet story about Blok and White Witch.

Apollon (griechisch Ἀπόλλων, lateinisch Apollo, deutsch Apoll) war in der griechischen und römischen Mythologie der Gott des Lichts, der Heilung, des Frühlings, der sittlichen Reinheit und Mäßigung sowie der Weissagung und der Künste, insbesondere der Musik, der Dichtkunst und des Gesanges. Als Sohn des Zeus und der Göttin Leto gehörte er wie seine Zwillingsschwester Artemis zu den zwölf Hauptgöttern des griechischen Pantheons. Das Heiligtum in Delphi, die bedeutendste Orakelstätte der Antike, war ihm geweiht.

Das Foto habe ich im Sudermann-Park in Blankensee aufgenommen und habe leider nur die Information, das es sich um einen griechischen oder römischen Gott handeln soll. Da die Büste auf einem Buch ruht, hatte ich die Idee, das es sich vielleicht um Apollo/Apollon handeln könnte.

Websites of Indian hospitals are hardly something to write home about. They are mostly poorly done, difficult to navigate and usually the information lies buried so deep that it tests ones patience to get the relevant information . The other day, it took me close to 20 minutes and numerous clicks to locate the address of a hospital from its website. I needed the address to send a Diwali card to a friend who works at the hospital and try as I might, I just did not seem to find the address of the hospital.

Almost all of the hospital websites that I am familiar with are largely static. Thus, they do not interact with patients or caregivers looking for specific information. They do not allow one to book appointments, download reports, interact with doctors taking care of ones loved ones, send good wishes or chat with the patients. They do not support e-commerce. Thus if I was an NRI living abroad and wanted to buy my parents an annual health check or if I wanted to pay their hospital bills on line, I just can not.

In the era of burgeoning medical travel and with Indian hospitals attracting a sizable chunk of patients from all over the world, this does seem strange. For some unfathomable reason, Indian hospitals have not invested too much on their websites or for that matter on online marketing per se. I believe it is high team someone woke up and used the net better.

It is indisputable that a certain kind of Indian consumer has fully embraced the e-revolution and their tribe is growing by leaps and bounds. With the broadband penetrating deeper, more and more Indian consumers will look at the internet for information, entertainment and commerce. They would seek information about doctors, medical facilities and would like to compare medical outcomes across hospitals. They would like to chat with doctors and customer experience executives in the hospital before making a choice. A hospital aspiring to attract these kind of patients must consider significant investments in their websites and in enhancing their online visibility.

The entire gamut of social media on the net can also be used by hospitals in interacting with their patients. At Artemis, we tried creating an online community of patients and caregivers, where members could post their hospital experiences, their recovery post discharge from the hospital, photographs showing their progress and interesting pieces of information on their disease and latest advancements in medicine. We also encouraged hospital doctors to interact with members of this community. Unfortunately the hospital discontinued this initiative once I left. The hospital was cutting costs and building an online community was considered too ‘long term’ for investments to continue.

The next level of online presence would require hospitals integrating their Hospital Information Systems (HIS) with their websites allowing patients and their relatives on line interactivity. This will facilitate hospitals inviting second opinions from experts anywhere in the world, keeping the patients family and relatives (who might be half way around the world) in the loop on the patient’s progress, interaction with their doctors and online payments. The big issue here is the online security of patient information. The hospitals will have to invest in a foolproof system, which guarantees authorised access to medical data. It would be a disaster if a hospital integrates its website with HIS and leaks confidential data.

With the current level of IT advancement, this and more is certainly possible. Indian hospitals have to look at these opportunities seriously and start investing. The returns would quickly follow.

Sometimes the ways you’ve changed just aren’t enough.

He wants me in his life still.  He told me things that made me feel better and worse.

But I don’t know if I can handle it.  It’s not fair.  I know life often isn’t, but isn’t part of trying to make the world better a belief that life should be, even though it’s not?

I needed to give it a second chance.  He was my first love.  I don’t fall so hard so terribly easily.  But he makes me weak in the knees.

If only that weakness didn’t transcend to other parts of my body, too.  Sometimes, he reminds me of how fallible I am – because of how much I am willing to put up with.  But I can’t.  I can’t do this to myself again.  At least, not with him.  He’s had a shot a few shots to make this work.  He’s still not willing to compromise, or prioritize my needs over his.  Ever.

We’re through. One thing is for certain: I will never attempt it again.  Ever. We’re really over.  Perhaps that’s the hardest thing to believe of all.  I know it’s for the best.

That didn’t stop it from breaking my heart, all over again.

And that didn’t stop me from spending most of the day at work, crying occasionally and feeling unable to move.

But I have wonderful friends.

L, who spent her lunchbreak listening to me sob at Starbuck’s over the phone, and mentally holding my hand.

Totally Platonic Guy Friend, who had crepes with me for lunch for an hour and a half, and let me cry and talk it out.

Indie IT Guy, who’s become a really good friend of mine, who went to Logan Tavern with me and treated me to delicious beer (yum, Allagash White) and their incredible Crab & Shrimp Mac & Cheese, spent the evening making me laugh and cheering me up.  Who asked me, at my door, if I wanted him to stay or go, and then spent the night talking and cuddling with me.

And, finally, the ever awesome Artemis, my friend at UVA Law, who is hosting me for the weekend, and finding me a ride down to Charlottesville to visit with her, her cats, and some old friends from high school.

I am so thankful to have such great people in my life.

Jusqu’ici tout va bien, pas plus de cris ou d’angoisse que d’habitude. En dépit de la félicité affichée, Zeus ne pouvait s’empêcher d’être nerveux. Ça lui avait pris un temps fou pour organiser ce banquet. La dernière fois que tout le monde était réuni, c’était sur l’invitation de Tantale, et on sait comment ça s’était terminé… Impérieux, le premier tyran de l’histoire regardait la foule de pique-assiettes rassemblées pour fêter les noces de Thétis et Pélé. Il repensait à tout ce qui avait provoqué ça:

Encore une fois, il avait trouvé la femme de sa vie, une jeune néréide innocente prénommée Thétis. Pas de bol, son grand frère Poséidon, l’agité du bocal, s’était également entiché de la jeune damoiselle. Ils étaient sur le point de se taper sur la gueule quand Prométhée, plus enchainé mais à jamais déchainé, leur révéla que le fils de cette nymphe serait plus puissante que son père. Ils eurent les mêmes pensées: Ouranos, castration, Cronos, vomissement, épisiotomie ventrale. Gentiment, Poséidon proposa à son petit frère chéri de lui laisser la place pour qu’il puisse enfin connaître le bonheur. Zeus, lui , se rappelait du bordel que ça avait été avec la naissance d’Athéna et la gueule de bois qu’il traine depuis. Bref les libidos de ces divins lubriques avait été calmée. Pour éviter qu’un dieu s’unisse à ce boulet qu’était devenue l’ex ingénue, ils choisirent un gogo pour la foutre en cloque et se débarrasser de la menace. C’est comme ça que Pélé se dévoua et après avoir ramé comme une bête, pu conquérir Thétis. Les dieux furent d’autant plus heureux de leur décision qu’ils apprirent plus tard que la douce jeune fille était en fait une virago ingérable.

Sortant de ces pensées, Zeus jeta un un œil vers Poséidon. Celui-ci était installé à ses côtés. Ce dieu à l’apparence de vieux mérou faisait des ronds dans son bocal et tenait dans sa gueule son trident, tout en jetant des regards menaçants vers ceux qu’ils soupçonnait avoir des velléités de pèche. Il faut dire qu’il a toujours eu un sale caractère, d’où son surnom d’agité du bocal régnant sur les eaux.

D’un côté Poséidon, de l’autre Hadès le taciturne, son autre grand frère tendance dépressif infernal. Il ne disait jamais rien, ne sortait jamais, sachant que de toute façon personne ne lui parlait ni ne l’invitait. On ne peut pas dire qu’il était très populaire. Personne ne savait à quoi il pensait. En ce qui concerne les autres dieux c’est simple: boire, manger et tirer leurs coups; mais lui? Personne ne savait mais tous seraient surpris de savoir que son rêve secret est d’être chanteur! Ben ouais, c’est pour ça qu’il avait accédé à la requête d’Orphée, question de respect entre artiste! Sans que personne ne le sache, son altesse seigneur des enfers avait installé un studio d’enregistrement aux enfers et s’apprêtait un sortir un single. Hélas pour lui, il ignorait à l’époque que la guerre allait débuter et que de fait, il aurait un surcroit de travail qui l’obligerait à ranger à tout jamais ses projets au fin fond du Styx. Une seule chose le consolait de sa solitude et sa frustration artistique: sa femme, Perséphone, qui d’ailleurs venait d’arriver.

_ Regarde qui j’amène mon chéri! C’est maman! Lui dit son épouse avec un grand sourire.

Fais chier, pensa Hadès.

_regarde maman! C’est mon chéri d’amour qui nous attend! Dit l’éternelle jeune fille à sa mère.

Fais chier, pensa Déméter.

_Hadès. Salua celle-ci

_Déméter, répondit-il.

_je suis surprise de vous voir ici. Vous avez donc pu vous libérer de l’enfer? Demanda-t-elle.

_vous y serez toujours la bienvenue, fît il remarquer.

_mon gendre.

_belle-maman.

Un long silence suivi qu’essayait d’occuper Perséphone qui s’était assise entre les deux et qui tentait de détendre l’atmosphère.

_tu ne trouves pas qu’il a bonne mine? Demanda-t-elle à sa mère

_pas trop mal pour un déterré, répondit Déméter tout en regardant ailleurs.

_vous me flattez belle-maman, rétorqua Hadès avec un sourire pincé.

_et maman, elle est pas toute belle avec sa nouvelle toge? Prît à partie Perséphone son époux en lui suppliant du regard de dire quelque chose de gentil.

_bien sur, on compte tous sur elle pour exciter les foules en ensemençant publiquement un champs avec un bellâtre de passage, rappela en persifflant le gendre cet incident gênant lors d’un banquet précèdent où sa belle-mère avait trop bu.

_Jean-pierre! Haussa Déméter.

_Endora! La surnomma Hadès

_Quel beau banquet! Cria Perséphone. On va bien manger!

_surtout ta mère si elle ne perd pas l’habitude bouffer tout ceux qui bougent! Faisant référence au banquet de Tantale et à l’épaule de Pélops.

_sale violeur de sac à merde des enfers! L’insulta Déméter

_vieille pute alcoolique exhibitionniste! Lui hurla Hadès

_au moins ils recommencent à se parler, murmura triomphalement Perséphone à l’attention de Zeus qui observait atterré toute la scène.

Le même Zeus se dit qu’Hadès aurait plus mal tombé puisque sa belle-mère était en même temps sa grande sœur. Elle est adorable d’habitude, sauf quand il s’agit de sa fille. Non, vraiment, la vraie terreur de la famille c’était leur grand mère à tous, Gaïa. Il se rappelle des punitions qu’elle assénait à toute la famille quand elle n’était pas contente. C’était, parce qu’elle est passée de terreur céleste à chignon serré et règle dans la main à celui de vieille peau un peu perchée. Il jeta un coup d’œil inquiet vers elle. Il avait bien fait: elle était entrain de raconter toutes les anecdotes sur ses enfants et petits enfants aux convives lèche-bottes assemblés autour d’elle. Avant que trop de dossiers ne ressortent, il accourût et dispersa l’auditoire.

_grand-mère! Tu vas prendre froid ici! Je vais te conduire dans un endroit plus confortable et qui sied mieux à ta stature! (et isolé de tous!) lui proposa-t-il en mettant la vieille man ridée de sa mamie sur son bras.

_Oh! Comme tu es gentil! Tu as toujours été mon favori! Même si tu as toujours été un peu coureur! Dis à voix haute Gaïa de sa voix éraillée de petite vieille ratatinée.

_Oui oui c’est ça… Répondit passablement gêné Zeus en jetant des regards inquiets vers Héra qui heureusement était occupée.

_Et la petite Ino, qu’est ce qu’elle dévient? Et Europe? Et Séléné? Je l’aimais bien cette petite pute… continua la vieille folle tandis que son petit fils la faisait discrètement sortir….

_Grand-mère part déjà? Lui demanda Héra soupçonneuse tandis que Zeus revenait.

_ heu… hum… elle était un peu fatiguée.

_mouais… on en reparlera. Lui promit sa régulière avant de repartir en pleine discussion avec Athéna et Aphrodite.

Épuisé par cet affrontement, Zeus se rassit lourdement sur son trône. Que de soucis! Il aimait Héra mais il la trouvait un peu trop contraignante. Si au moins en discutant avec Athéna elle pouvait acquérir un peu de sa sagesse… Ha! Athéna! Sa fierté de père! Sa favorite! D’accord elle avait un sale caractère. C’est vrai que tout le panthéon l’avait surnommé le lieutenant colonel, à l’inverse d’Arès, son fils raté, que tous appelaient le « sous-off’ de mes couilles » (mais que pour ménager sa susceptibilité on appelait « de mes couilles ») Pourquoi sa chouchoute? Surement parce que ce n’est pas tout le monde qui accouche de sa fille par la tête. Et puis son enfance n’a pas été facile, elle a quand même vu toutes ses amis mourir! Et ce n’est pas parce que c’est elle qui les a toutes tué que sa peine n’avait pas duré au moins deux jours!

Aphrodite c’était une autre histoire… Une véritable beauté mais qu’est ce qu’elle était cruche! Une véritable amphore! Il se la serait bien tapé mais il n’était pas sur de savoir s’il était le père. Normalement c’est Ouranos mais il y avait un petit doute. De toute façon elle est la chasse gardée du bossu, le fils qu’Héra avait fait toute seule. Le dernier qui avait couché avec s’est retrouvé avec de gros soucis. En parlant de lui, qu’est ce qu’il foutait encore?!

_De mes couilles! Pardon… Arès! Arrête de jouer avec la lance du lieutenant-colonel! Tu sais très bien que ta sœur a horreur qu’on touche à ses affaires! En plus tu vas encore te faire mal! Rugit Zeus en direction du seul fils qu’il avait eu avec Héra.

Tout penaud, celui-ci reposa la lance et partît bouder dans un coin.

Les enfants; une éternelle préoccupation. Il avait fallu dresser une table pour tous les enfants de Zeus sous les regards furibonds d’Héra. Distraitement il les dénombrait pour voir s’ils étaient tous arriver: 1…. 2… 3… 10…50….125….

Une heure plus tard, Zeus vît avec satisfaction que tous étaient là. Il avait toutefois du mettre les points sur les i avec certains d’entre eux, notamment avec les jumeaux qu’il était allé voir quelques jours plus tôt…

lorsqu’il s’est rendu chez Artémis, il fût accueilli par une bordée de flèches et du esquiver plusieurs coups de massue.

_Oh! Oh! Ça va pas non?! Qu’est ce que j’ai fait pour être accueilli ainsi? Demanda Zeus

_Vous m’outragez père! Cria Artémis à son encontre.

_Quoi?! Fût stupéfait le seigneur de l’orage

_Vous venez pour profiter de mon innocence! S’indigna sa fille

_je viens juste te dire bonjour et t’inviter pour un mariage! Se défendît le père.

_Vous êtes comme tous les hommes lubriques qui ont outragé ma vertu en posant les yeux sur ma nudité! Clama la déesse chasseresse!

_Bordel de moi même! Alors arrête de te baigner à poil dans les parcs publiques et ça évitera que les promeneurs et les chasseurs tombent sur toi! Plaida Zeus franchement énervé!

_Pourquoi tant de dureté avec ma douce sœur? demanda Apollon

_Ha ben tu tombes bien! Le prit à parti le père. Je vais pouvoir vous inviter et vous donner les consignes! Et je ne me répèterai pas: toi Artémis, je te confisque tes armes. Hors de question que tu assassines tous les hommes de la soirée parce qu’ils t’auront dit bonjour. Et toi Apollon, tu te tiens à carreaux avec les jeunes filles et les jeunes hommes qui seront là! Tu ma fais honte à te prendre des râteaux! Tes seules conquêtes tu les as violé ou tu leur as offert des cadeaux contre leurs faveurs! Ton dernier truc c’est d’avoir offert le don de divination à une gamine et même avec ça tu t’es fait jeté! Entre parenthèse je sens que cette histoire va nous foutre dans la merde! Alors vous y allez mollo! OK?! Alors dites que vous avez compris et venez faire bisou!

Tout timidement, les jumeaux répondirent un petit « oui, papa » et lui firent un bisou.

Juste après ça, échauffé par sa colère, Zeus se rendit chez Dionysos, défonça la porte de son temple, lui ordonna d’ouvrir pour aérer un peu, de ranger ce bordel, fouilla toute la piaule et confisqua toutes les drogues qu’il pût trouver. Et rugît avant de partir à son fils qui pendant tout ce temps n’avait pas décroché de sa musique infernale:

-je te préviens que tu seras fouillé à l’entrée! Hors de question que tu profites de la soirée pour faire du trafic avec tes potes lotophages!

Sur ses mots, l’impérieux panthéiste sortit en écrasant une larme de dépit. Dionysos était si mignon, petit, quand il était encore Zagreus. Être démembré et ressuscité ne lui avait pas réussi.

Sortant de ces pensée, Zeus posa un regard bienveillant sur la réception. Jusqu’ici tout allait bien. Orphée animait la soirée avec les neufs muses. Ses enfants se tenaient à carreaux. Les dieux s’amusaient bien. Le mariage avait été célébré sans encombre, et la menace d’un sale gosse bouleversant l’ordre céleste était écartée. Les mariés étaient heureux. Pour arriver à ce résultats, il avait tout donné. À l’entrée du Panthéon, il avait posté Médée comme physionomiste. Avec elle, son grand fiston Héraclès servait de videur et tenait en laisse Cerbère pour écarter d’éventuels trouble-fêtes.

Régulièrement, Hermès lui faisait un compte rendu. Il avait quand même fallu refoulé Odin, Thor, Osiris, Sangoku, Seth et pas mal d’autres personnes avec qui il s’entendait bien d’habitude mais là c’était un mariage quand même! Excepté avec Bouddha qui l’avait très mal pris, il n’y avait pas eu d’embrouilles. Satisfait de lui même, Zeus pu enfin se détendre, commanda une coupe d’ambroisie à son petit Ganymède et s’apprêtait à porter un toast quand surgît une couille. Pas Arès, une couille plus grosse encore. Jusqu’ici, tout allait bien…

Qui avait laissé entrer Eris?! Les consignes étaient pourtant claires: il était hors de question que la déesse de la discorde soit de la partie! Ils vont m’entendre à la sécurité! Se promît intérieurement Zeus. La foule entière était tétanisée. Avant que quiconque n’ai pu réagir, furieuse, Eris lança au milieu de la salle un objet et disparût dans un grand rire. Il s’agissait d’une pomme d’or avec l’inscription « pour la plus belle ». pour désamorcer les tensions qu’il sentait venir, Zeus dît à l’assemblée:

_je serais d’avis qu’en ce jour solennel, cet objet aille à notre belle marié du jour que les dieux ont honoré de sa présence… vous m’écoutez?… hey… je parle… allo?… je suis là… allez vous faire foutre….

Il se rendait petit à petit compte que personne en l’écoutait. Tous étaient plus occupé à observer le combat qui avait commencé entre Héra, Athéna et Aphrodite.

_en tant que représentante de l’expérience, c’est à moi que devrait revenir cette pomme, proposa sure d’elle Héra

_tu retardes mamie. C’est marqué à la plus belle, pas la plus fanée. Donc cette pomme est à moi, rétorqua Aphrodite

_ta gueule pupute. Tu sais que c’est marqué ça parce qu’on te l’a dit, lui répondit le lieutenant-colonel en la soulevant par le col de sa toge et en l’envoyant valdinguer dans les bras du « sous-off’ de mes couilles » (pardon, Arès) l’intelligence et la détermination sont la réelle beauté de ce monde, assura virilement Athéna.

_écoute gamine, on ne va quand même pas filer un symbole de beauté à une conductrice de char! Retoqua Héra

pendant ce temps, Zeus se lamentait. Il préférait ne pas écouter les insultes qui pleuvaient entre les trois déesses. Il releva la tête subitement lorsqu’il entendit l’une d’elle clamer: « alors ce sera la guerre! » Il vît Héra rassembler ses partisans en tant qu’épouse du roi des dieux, Aphrodite séduire tous les autres contre la promesse de faveurs que de toute façon elle accordait facilement, et Athéna chausser ses Nike air de combat, enfiler son casque portant l’inscription « seiya forever » et lancer son cri de guerre: je me donne la force!…

Jusqu’ici tout allait bien, pour une fois une réunion de famille aurait pu se passer sans encombre, Zeus rêvait de ce qui aurait du se passer quand il réalisa: merde! Non seulement on est dans la merde mais j’ai oublié ce connard de paparazzi, Homère! À tous les coups il va tout raconter!

Mais ça s’est une autre histoire….

Chang’s artwork isn’t bad by any means – but Lopresti was so perfect for this book that he is truly missed by me this issue. Story-wise, this was an okay issue. Donna and Diana fight – apparently Donna is still under Genocide’s spell. I liked that Diana was proud of how much of a warrior Donna has become. This issue focuses far too on Diana’s relationship with the amazons – I want to see Wonder Woman being a superhero and see a supporting cast in her life as Diana Price and all that. I guess we will have to wait for that. I trust Simone has something in mind for Wonder Woman’s civilian life now that the DMA is no more.

O Anti-herói irlandês que vem consquistando fãs mundo afora

Olá, caros leitores inexistentes de um blog pessoal parado! Se você está lendo isso, deve ser alguém com muita sorte, ou com muito azar! Este é um dos raríssimos posts do meu blog pessoal! Aliás, um post que eu estava devendo a muito tempo para os caros visitantes aleatórios!

Este post se trata da minha resenha da minha série de livros favorita: Artemis Fowl.

Para aqueles que me conhecem, não é segredo algum que eu sou fã alucinado desta série. Foi esta a série que me fez deixar os livros do aclamado Harry Potter de lado, para entrar em um cenário fictício totalmente novo e encantador. E é por isso que eu escrevi essa resenha da obra para vocês!

Resumindo o Enredo

A história gira em torno de Artemis Fowl II, o herdeiro pré-adolescente de um império do crime com problemas financeiros, que juntamente ao seu enorme guarda-costas eurasiano Butler, usa de sua inteligência acima da média para bolar planos criminosos e tentar reerguer seu status financeiro. E para isso ele vai entrar em um mundo que ninguém imaginava existir: o Povo das Fadas – criaturas místicas como anões, elfos e duendes, que vivem no subterrâneo se escondendo dos humanos, utilizando-se de alta tecnologia para isso.

Uma visão geral da obra

A série, atualmente em seu 6º volume (com mais 3 livros “extras”), é escrita pelo irlandês Eoin Colfer (lê-se Owen). O gênero é um misto de fantasia, trama policial e sci fi, com criaturas místicas e alta-tecnologia misturados de uma forma criativa e original.

O estilo de Colfer de narrar é muito característico, e conforme ele vai progredindo na história, você vê as cenas se seguindo no mesmo ritmo de um filme, e se diverte com comentários sutis, que tornam a leitura mais divertida e interessante. Sem contar as formas incríveis de criar expectativa e interesse na história. Essa mesma “identidade narrativa” de Colfer, que se apresenta em seus outros livros, no início aparenta ser diferente, mas com o tempo torna-se uma marca registrada que torna a leitura muito mais interessante.

Outra característica forte que se pode notar, pelo menos nos primeiros livros, é um narrativa meio infantil, com brincadeiras meio bobas. Bem, não é de se surpreender, se considerar que antes de AF, Colfer escrevia livros infantis, e ele próprio é professor primário. Mas conforme a série vai progredindo em seus volumes, vamos notando uma clara evolução na narrativa, assim como os próprios personagens.

Apesar do ritmo de cenas que nos faz passar pela cabeça um filme, alguns reclamam do ritmo da história, que as cenas demoram a acontecer. O que acontece na verdade, especialmente no primeiro livro, é que o autor se preocupa em passar o ambiente, o cenário, o “clima” da cena, assim como também tenta desenvolver a cosmologia, e o elenco, durante a própria história, e isso pode ocupar um certo espaço entre uma cena e outra.

Ou seja, o suposto “defeito” de ritmo, é na verdade uma preocupação com tornar o cenário e os personagens mais palpáveis e reconhecíveis na história, além de dar uma coerência à cosmologia da obra.

Disputa Eterna

Talvez por envolver magia (até certo ponto), talvez por ser uma série infanto-juvenil, talvez por ter um adolescente como protagonista, ou algum outro motivo qualquer, desde que Artemis Fowl fez sucesso, comparações com um certo bruxinho foram inevitáveis.

Lógico que estou falando do mega sucesso mundial Harry Potter. Quando AF começou a crescer, começaram comparações, dizendo que AF era uma tentativa de imitar HP. Eu discordo. Para começar, estamos falando de gêneros bem diferentes. Enquanto HP envereda pelo mundo dos bruxos, de aventura, heroísmo e magia, AF segue pela trama policial, planos criminosos, mais tecnologia do que magia, e criaturas secretas.

Devemos olhar pelo próprio contexto: Na Inglaterra, temos em seu passado a crença em bruxos, dragões, e criaturas lendárias, na Irlanda, em criaturas fantásticas como fadas, gnomos, e outros espíritos da natureza. E é nesses contextos que surgem cada um.

Outra coisa que devemos olhar é os seus protagonistas: Enquanto Harry é heróico, nobre, corajoso, e sempre disposto a ir à batalha pela justiça, Artemis é ardiloso, inteligente, dissimulado, e sempre pensando na vantagem própria. Enquanto Harry é o herói clássico, Artemis é o anti-herói que você acha que devia odiar, mas acaba amando seu estilo.

Ainda temos a história continua, completamente interdependente, de HP, enquanto em AF temos cada livro com uma aventura individualizada, onde pouco prejudica você não ter lido os livros anteriores (apesar desta característica estar cada vez menos presente nos últimos livros lançados). Ainda na evolução através do livro, enquanto em HP o personagem vai descobrindo mais do mundo mágico e de sua história enquanto amadurece, Artemis vai adquirindo valores, ganhando amigos (e inimigos) enquanto vai lidando com os indesejáveis hormônios da adolescência.

Para finalizar, tem a óbvia diferença narrativa. Enquanto J.K. Rowling se foca em desvendar a história através da ação, Colfer vai usando de sua narrativa bem humorada e original para criar expectativa sobre a trama.

Os Livros

E como eu disse que faria uma resenha dos livros, aqui estão eles:

Artemis Fowl (título brasileiro: Artemis Fowl O Menino Prodígio do Crime) – 2001

O primeiro livro da série, nos introduz o jovem criminoso de 12 anos, Artemis Fowl II, que após o desaparecimento de seu pai no norte da Rússia, e do enlouquecimento de sua mãe, se encontra tentando reconstruir a fortuna dos Fowl, e para isso ele engendrou um plano mirabolante: ele sequestra uma fada, Holly Short, uma agente da LEP, a polícia das fadas, e pretende pedir resgate em ouro para o Povo das Fadas. O que ele não contava é que o Povo fosse começar a jogar sujo.

Lançado em 2001, o primeiro livro é um momento inicial da série, e os personagens ainda não são completamente desenvolvidos e a narrativa, ainda com características dos livros infantis anteriores do autor, nas partes protagonizadas pelo Povo são pouco desenvolvidas, mas serve como uma boa introdução à série.

Artemis Fowl The Arctic Incident (título brasileiro: Artemis Fowl Uma Aventura no Ártico) -2002

Agora uma gangue de goblin parece estar negociando fontes de energia com humanos. Holly Short, capitã da LEP, desconfia logo do inimigo número um do povo: Artemis Fowl. Mas Artemis está mais preocupado com outros assuntos: seu pai está vivo, e nas mãos da Máfiya Russa. Parece que Artemis e o Povo terão que deixar as desavenças de lado para resolverem seus problemas.

Com uma maturidade maior do que no primeiro livro, começamos a conhecer melhor o Porto, o mundo subterrâneo, e o Povo das Fadas. A narrativa está mais interessante, e os personagens começam a mostrar seus primeiros sinais da evolução que viriam a ter durante a série.

Artemis Fowl  The Eternity Code (título brasileiro: Artemis Fowl O Código Eterno) – 2003

Dessa vez Artemis tenta negociar com um influente empresário americano ligado à máfia. Ele acha que tem tudo sobre controle, e tenta ameçar o império empresarial de Jon Spiro com o Cubo C (no Brasil, Cubo V), uma máquina criada com tecnologia das fadas. Mas ele não contava que Jon Spiro estivesse dois passos à frente, o que acaba pondo Butler em situação de vida ou morte, e o Povo das Fadas em risco de ser exposto. Agora só com a ajuda da capitã Holly Short o jovem Fowl conseguirá resolver isso.

Esse livro termina com algo que poderia ser um final da série, fechando em uma trilogia. Mas as deixas para continuação deixadas pelo autor se provaram ser realmente deixas para continuação. Muitos desgostosos de continuações só vêm até aqui, mas os outros livros se mostram ca vez mais interessantes!

Artemis Fowl  The Opal Deception (título brasileiro: Artemis Fowl A Vingança de Opala) – 2005

Artemis não lembra de nada de suas aventuras anteriores com o Povo, mas Opala Koboi, uma duende diabrete, antiga inimiga supostamente em coma, lembra-se bem dele, e planeja vingança. Enquanto isso problemas ocorrem no subterrâneo, e agora Holly é considerada uma traidora. Agora só se juntando esses dois conseguirão se salvar dos planos de Koboi.

Criticado por episódio possivelmente “cauterizante” na série, este quarto livro é o que possue menos fãs. De fato, ele pode aparentar ser uma continuação forçada da primeira trilogia, mas na verdade é o início de uma nova, tão ou mais emocionante que a primeira, e também serve para novas evoluções dos personagens.

Artemis Fowl The Lost Colony (título brasileiro: Artemis Fowl A Colônia Perdida) – 2006

A antiga ilha onde residiam os demônios, mais uma das raças do Povo, está voltando do limbo, e pode expor o Povo perigosamente. Cabe a Artemis, Holly e companhia, salvarem o destino do Povo das Fadas novamente. Mas desta vez Artemis encontra um desafio: Minerva Paradizo, uma jovem garota de 12 anos disposta a revelar os demônios ao mundo para ganhar o prêmio nobel.

Saindo dos eventos “cauterizantes” de Opal Deception, este livro se mostra muito mais interessante e excitante, com surgimento de novos personagens, uma trama evoluindo cada vez mais, e mais evolução dos personagens. A trama se mostra mais envolvente e cada vez os personagens se tornam mais carismáticos.

Artemis Fowl The Time Paradox (título brasileiro: Artemis Fowl O Paradoxo do Tempo) – 2008

A mãe de Artemis está sofrendo de uma terrível doença mágica, e só o fluido cerebral de um lêmure sifaka sedoso poderia salvá-la. O problema é que o próprio Artemis vendeu o último da espécie anos antes para um grupo extincionista. Agora Artemis terá que contar com a ajuda de Holly novamente para voltar ao passado e enfrentar aquele que pode ser seu mais desafiador inimigo: ele mesmo, aos onze anos.

Com uma trama cheia de reviravoltas, Time Paradox se revela tão emocionante quanto seu predecessor. Mostrando um Artemis bem mais família, dessa vez são as relações entre os personagens que se mostram mais em foco. Com uma cena que muitos fãs de AF esperavam, e outra que emocionou muitos, é um dos mais emocionantes e agitados livros da série até agora.

Artemis Fowl The Atlantis Complex (ainda sem título brasileiro) – previsto para 2010

O sétimo livro da série, vem focando em ligações entre Artemis e Holly. Ainda não há muitas informações quanto ao enredo, mas sabe-se que será em torno de uma ligação entre os nascimentos de Holly e Artemis, e terá um momento que Artemis estará confinado com a Opala do presente na prisão de Atlântida. Emoções de monte deverão vir nessa sequência tão esperada da série, prevista para sair em inglês em 13 de Julho de 2010.

Artemis Fowl Files (título brasileiro: Arquivo Artemis Fowl Confidencial) – 2004

Um livro “extra” da série, vem com duas histórias inéditas protagonizadas por Holly e Artemis, e uma série de bônus, como entrevistas com os personagens e o próprio autor, as invenções de Potrus, jogos e mais.

Artemis Fowl The Graphic Novel (mesmo título no Brasil) – 2007

Trata-se da história do primeiro livro recontada na forma de quadrinhos, numa graphic novel desenhada com muito estilo, nos dando a oportunidade de ver uma imagem diferente dos personagens da série.

Artemis Fowl The Graphic Novel The Arctic Incident (ainda sem título no Brasil) – 2009

Lançado esse ano, é uma continuação da Graphic Novel, ou seja, é a história do segundo livro recontada em quadrinhos, que ainda não saiu aqui no Brasil.

Uma Palavra Final

Como eu disse, para mim AF tem um lugar no coração mais especial que HP. É uma série genial, que me conquistou. Espero ansiosamente pelas continuações da série, e espero que dure bastante. Filmes são cogitados, mas talvez pelas eternas comparações com o enorme sucesso de HP, AF é abafado e fãs são perdidos, e o filme não sai. Mas a esperança não se esvai, e a espera continua!

FoxNews reports that a Planned Parenthood worker in Texas quit after seeing an ultrasound of a baby being aborted.  Here’s a snippet:

Abby Johnson, 29, used to escort women from their cars to the clinic in the eight years she volunteered and worked for Planned Parenthood in Bryan, Texas. But she says she knew it was time to leave after she watched a fetus “crumple” as it was vacuumed out of a patient’s uterus in September.

The most intriguing part of this article was when Johnson described the driving force behind the clinic’s abortions:

“Every meeting that we had was, ‘We don’t have enough money, we don’t have enough money — we’ve got to keep these abortions coming’…It’s a very lucrative business and that’s why they want to increase numbers.”

Immediately, Acts 19:21-41 came to my mind.  Paul had been preaching the gospel in Ephesus, and he was preaching against the goddess Artemis, the Greek deity of hunting and fertility, who later became associated with wealth and prosperity.

Some Ephesians were angry at Paul, who “persuaded and turned away a great many people, saying that gods made with hands are not god” (v. 26).  What was the driving force of their anger at Paul and zeal for this goddess?  Verses 24-25 tell us the answer:

For a man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little business to the craftsmen.  These he gathered together, with the workmen in similar trades, and said, “Men, you know that from this business we have our wealth.”

Just like the Ephesian silversmiths, the Planned Parenthood workers acquired their wealth from a god (i.e. abortion) they made with their own hands.  In a word, they were greedy. Greed and abortion, like Artemis, are idols.  And when the idol of greed is threatened, the result is either repentance  toward Jesus or rage, chaos, hatred, and only more idolatry and greed.

The lust for wealth is a damning desire.  Truly “those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction” (1 Tim. 6:9).

Am 10.10.2009 fand im Festsaal des Künstlerhauses in München am Lenbachplatz die Weltpremiere der Kunstbarren von Tilmann Krumrey statt.

Gleichzeitig wurden die bislang fertig gestellten Köpfe aus dem Projekt 100 Menschen 100 Köpfe gezeigt, sowie einige Kleinplastiken aus Feingold (Faun, Medusa).

Den Rahmen bildeten die beiden Gips-Originale der Portalfiguren des Monomythos Block, die hier ebenfalls zum aller ersten Mal einem Publikum vorgestellt wurden.

Taurus the Bull is grounded, earthy, stubborn, persistent, practical, creative, security conscious, and very sensual. Ruling our sense of hearing ~ Taurus hears the call of the muse and the tinkle of the coin.

Taurus signifies our resources (what we have) and our values (what we believe in). Sometimes they’re the same ~ and sometimes, they’re not. Sometimes we deny them, give them up, or perhaps they are taken from us by circumstances. If we are true to our authentic selves, we will not lose site of them or fail to honor them. Not for anything.

If you read my post on Selene, you may remember that I said I preferred her as the Goddess of the Moon rather than Diana. Well…when it comes to Full Moon in Taurus, I just might have to do a little wafting on that. The Hunter’s Moon is the perfect depiction of the sublime partnership between Venus and Diana, Goddess of the Hunt, who later took on a moon goddess role.

This Full Moon received the name, Hunter’s Moon, because it enabled hunters to press on into the night to capture game for the feast that would follow ~ a mark of a secure winter reserve. When things have been reduced to their bare minimum, we must find that we have held on to the one or two things that will sustain us. 

This Full Moon brings an opportunity to explore the valued ~ and hunted ~  in our lives. The Taurus Moon asks a very important question:

What do you value in yourself?

The Full Moon in Taurus will always appear during Scorpio since Full Moons always show us oppositions to the Sun. Taurus sites a trophy in Scorpio’s house ~ there is at least one great trophy to be targeted and claimed now. Use this Full Moon to discover what you value most. Scope it. Site it. Know where it is. When it comes time to draw your arrow, you may discover that you have Diana’s accuracy in this hunt, or you learn that your mark is a bit off.

A big question to ask yourself before letting the arrow fly is, “Is this target what I thought it was?” It is important not to be fooled by your own moonlight (or your passing passions) and to remain persistent in your hunt.

Where is Taurus in your chart? Wherever it is, it signifies a part of your life that needs security while at the same time requiring a lushness that is hard to find anywhere else.

Where is Venus? Wherever she is in your chart, know that she is singing a song made only for your ears. Listen to that song, and be sure you understand the lyrics.

Diana was frequently depicted with a deer or hunting dogs. Though she herself remained chaste and virgin (and required it of her nymphs), she was, nevertheless, the goddess and protector of pregnant women and children. She took no lovers. She guarded what she valued most ~ herself ~ and would not be  compromised.

There’s an interesting story associated with Diana and the hunter, Actaeon. He accidentally stumbled upon her while she was bathing, which really angered her. It’s important to understand that he was not spying on her, not stalking her. It was an accident. A bit of Scorpionic revenge erupted in Diana, and she turned the unsuspecting hunter into a stag and allowed his own dogs to kill him. In the painting, you can see that he has already sprouted antlers. Even though we’re living through Scorpio days now, the goal of this Hunter’s Moon is not to take quick revenge as Diana did. The goal is to target what it is that is most valuable to you ~ what it is that gives you security and is a voice from which you cannot turn away. When everything else has been stripped away, this is the one thing that you will not let anyone take from you. It’s your dignity, your core self.
