Featured Artist: Kazumasa Nagai

Japanese Graphic Designer known for his poster design that incorporates traditional Japanese themes.

This tortoise led me to Kasumasa Nagai’s art. I was drawn by the choice of color, the placing of the tortoise and the details put into the painting. If you look closely each ‘part’ of the tortoise has its own unique pattern. I tried looking through the web for a decent profile of the artist but found none.  His art however according to brief biographies has evolved from abstract to realisitic illustrations to computer art then to stylized patterns. Tadanori Yokoo dubbed this change as “the Momentous Mutations of Kazumasa Nagai”.

I won’t pretend to know much about interpretations of art. However, the strangeness, the simplicity, and the incorporation of pattern and unexpected elements draws the eye to look closer.  Here are some of his other works.

Points for the gently satirical title? I think so…

25 year old Maple has been dubbed the ‘heir to Tracey Emin’s throne,’ and there’s little doubt she’ll happily piss off enough people to at least keep the seat warm while Tracey nips off for the toilet. With a BA in Fine Art from Kingston University you could say she’s more than ‘qualified’ to be a contemporary artist, whatever that qualification may be. Apparently she’s influenced by her Muslim upbringing, as well as her ‘general surroundings’ – pretty standard, but she does it well.

I think my favourite thing about her is that she’s just so fucking cynical. Her photography ranges from signs with messages that satire the concept of contemporary art, to her sucking a pixelated dick (no wait, it’s a just paintbrush head – letdown). Then there are step-by-step pictures of her in full Muslim dress while praying, right next door to stills taken from a video called ‘Cum,’ in which (what looks like) water is thrown over her face.

In a round-about way she’s basically an anti-anti-feminist, achieving this strange title by somehow satiring anti-feminism, while pissing off feminists at the same time. We really should admire someone who can annoy such a broad cross-section of people in one fell swoop.

Today’s changed my whole perspective on life, and to be perfectly honest nothing that significant has  happened. Just talking to James today has made me realize that i’ve got to stop thinking about those things that just aren’t important to me anymore (him). Apparently i’ve got so much “potential”?

It’s not easy being creative, at college i always get the academic people looking down at me. Don’t get me wrong, they all compliment my work, compliment me, but i still think that they think that they’re better than me. Maybe I’m just getting paranoid in my young age?

Out there’s gonna be very competative for me though, i know it. I know its a challenge to get into the best med school, or seven thousand years of training to become a lawyer. But should i be dissed just because thats not what i choose to do with my life? I want to be an artist!

I want to live in a one bedroomed, open planned, tacky flat, with the love of my life, a fat ginger cat and a shar pei. I’ve always had the same dream, the desire to be somebody never changes, i guess you could see it as a curse, because each year that passes i get closer to that dream, but at the same time more doubting of my skills and originality.

Let’s just get through these A Levels, then head off for a foundation (which apparently i don’t need) and then worry about which degree course i want, and where i want to be. I’ve always had this image of me in a playsuit smoking pot outside the main doors into Goldsmiths. Is that a normal desire to have in ones life? I’ve never smoked weed in my life?

I wish i could say i’ve never smoked. I’ve tried it, i smoked socially for a while, but its just the after-taste i can’t stand. It reminds me of my x (Ryan). Yet i still do it occasionally. I’ve got backie in my bag at the moment, but i couldn’t tell you why. I’m not addicted, it just sort of sits there as a safety net if somehting stressful happens and i need to chill out a bit.

But really readings pretty good for a tension releaser.

This music industry is so politically inclined they couldn’t just say we are giving MJ the accolades we haven’t given out of guilt…maybe if more of us were supportive and loving toward one of the greatest to ever do it then maybe the people closer to him would have done more to protect and take care of him.

Looking forward to seeing who actually wins! Maybe the industry can take notes from the AMAs by giving awards based on sales and not politics since sales mean PEOPLE chose the winners! *Pardon me Grammys* but the voters are not necessarily in tune with the music…I’ll get on their case in another blog coming soon!

Rihanna’s 4 album Rated R dropped today on Amazon for $3.99. With a price that low there is no reason for all you cheap downloading type of people to buy it.

I didn’t think I would like this album, but I must say it is much better than I expected it to be. Rihanna is definitely picking up where she left with the bad girl image. The music says it all. She is cursing and letting the world know that she is a bad bitch, who is not to be fucked with.

Anyway here is my track by track analysis.

Mad House

It’s all in the title. Rihanna sings “Come on in.” Welcoming you to the crazy world that is her life.

Wait Your Turn

The lead single. She is letting everyone know that they no longer have to wait. She sings “Sometimes it takes a 1,000 trials to win.” To me she’s basically saying timing is everything. Perhaps why she waited until two weeks before her album dropped to come out and finally speak about the situation with her and CB.

Favorite line: “Sometimes it take a 1,000 trials to win”

Hard

One of my fav songs. The chorus is catchy and will get stuck in your head. I fux with Jeezy but his verse doesn’t do much for me. Anyway, Rihanna is letting people know that she is going to do her regardless of what anyone has to say. Basically a nice f*ck you to the critics.

Favorite Line: “The baddest bitch in heels right here”

Stupid In Love

My favorite song on the album thus far. This song describes a female in a relationship with a man who is cheating and lying, and the girl stays. Her friends tell her the dude is not worth her time but she still stays. She is putting more into the relationship and wants it to be more than what it really is.  She knows better and knows that she is being stupid, and finally decides that it is time to go.

Favorite Line: “This is stupid, I’m not stupid”

Rockstar 101

My 2nd favorite song on the album. Basically confident woman that knows she’s bad… oh yeah and she’s a rockstar. Rihanna goes in on this track. She is once again letting everyone know she doesn’t give f*ck and she’s living a rockstar life style. “Big city, bright lights, sleep all day, long nights”

Favorite Line: “Make sure you frisk me good check my panties and my bra”

Russian Roulette

I wasn’t feeling Russian Roulette when it first dropped but when the video came out I quickly changed my mind.  Now I love it! (as in I listen to it multiple times a day and sing in the mirror) Don’t judge me! I know you do it too. This song is dark but if you listen to the words you will understand what she’s saying. It’s like a relationship that is risky but you stay in it to prove to your lover that you can stay down. To me this is the part of her relationship with CB when she knew that somethings that were happening were wrong but she felt like her heart was in it and she was not leaving.

Favorite Line: “You can see my heart bleeding”

Fire Bomb

Umm, I don’t know about this song. The words were going in one ear and out the other… so I can’t tell you anything about it. Not feeling it. Sorry.

Rude Boy

Basically Rihanna wants some from a rude boy. lol. Nothing wrong with a little rough loving. haha!

Favorite Line: “I like the way you touch me there, I like the way you pull my hair” lol

G4L

Gangsta For Life. She got hood on this track. Sounds like an ode to her friends, letting her homegirls know that she is down for anything and they will ride out on any dude that wants to do her friends wrong. I’m feeling this track because I am the same way when it comes to my closest friends, bitch I will ride.

Favorite Line: “We driving by with them headlights off, we know where you stay, know what you did we don’t play that sh*t n*gga, we don’t play.”

Girl crush… I guess.

Cold Case Love

More relaxing, relating, and releasing on CB. I like the track but I’m over the whole situation with her and CB. I’m glad she is releasing her feelings though hopefully she won’ t be singing about it on the next album though. *Presses next*

The Last Song

I’m feeling this track but it sounds sort of suicidal. Like the last song someone would play right before committing suicide.

Don’t shoot me this is just my opinion.

Every year it seems that the holiday shopping rush begins earlier and earlier.  This year we haven’t even made it to Thanksgiving and the radios marathon Christmas music and the stores are “slashing prices.”

Every year it seems that the economy is worse and we are expected by retailers to spend more.  The newest gadget…the biggest television.

This year change your holiday shopping strategy.  Buy local.  Buy handmade.

Support your neighborhood’s small businesses and local artisans.  It is easy to make the gifting switch.  Do you buy books?  Buy a local author’s newest release.  Do you give hostess gifts?  Buy small unique serving dishes from your local potter, or wine from your local winery.  Live in the boonies??  Can’t find what you’re looking for in your neighborhood??  Then pledge to buy handmade.  Scarves from knitters, not machines.  Jewelry from talented artists, not diamond pushers.  When it is the thought that counts…leave the big box stores, the chain stores, the malls and all of their gimmicks behind.

By buying local and handmade, you are helping your neighbors through these hard times. Walmart will recover from a loss in profits, but will your chocolatier neighbor?  The world’s economy will not collapse if Target goes out of business, but it might if too many of our local artisan’s do.  My money is worth more than just supporting large corporations, making the rich richer.  There are so many talented artists out there…I’m sure you could find a gift for everyone on your list.  This year I support the little guy.  I spend my money where it matters.  This year…I buy local.  I buy handmade.  Join me.

Oh je, schon wiede ‘ne Woche rum und ich habe viel zu wenig Zeit, um eine längere Recherche zu machen. Wenn ich nicht ordentlich suche, bekomme ich wieder einenAnpfiff von Steven Inch – der Kerl kann einfach furchtbar pingelig sein. Und er weiß zu viel. Kurzum, weil’s schnell gehen muss, aber die Qualität nicht darunter leiden darf, stelle ich heute mal wieder eine Platte aus dem reichhaltigen Vermächtnis von Eddie Bo vor: “Sissy Walk” von Sonny Jones.

Ob tatsächlich ein Herr namens Sonny Jones das Stück singt, ob es sich eventuell um “Little” Sonny Jones” handelt oder ob Bo persönlich am Mikro war (an der Orgel saß er zweifellos) und ein Pseudonym verwendet hat, ist noch etwas umstritten. Für mich geht die Tendenz aber deutlich in Richtung “Eddie Bo ist Sonny Jones”. Zum einen, weil auf der Funky-Delicacies-Compilation “The Hook And Sling” Sonny Jones gar nicht mehr erwähnt wird. Zum anderen, weil die Stimme doch sehr nach Mr. Bocage klingt. Ich weiß, einige schreiben, dafür sei die Stimme des Sängers zu hoch. Aber ich denke, dass ein Künstler wie Eddie Bo durchaus dazu in der Lage ist, seinen Gesang an das Stück anzupassen. Und eine etwas damenhaftere Stimmlage erscheint bei einem Stück, das “Sissy Walk” heißt, durchaus passend.

Sonny Jones – Sissy Walk

I donated this 16″ x 20″ watercolor painting to my church this weekend for a silent auction or any other fund-raiser they may have. For months I have been thinking that I should be using my ability for charities and church but really didn’t know how to approach it or whom to contact. The sad thing is that now days there are so many laws and regulations, on who or what they can accept, and the threat of law suits for every little thing. So churches and charities have to be careful on what they accept. But I decided to take my painting to church Sunday and just let them make the decision on whether they wanted it or not. They not only accepted it. but was thrilled and have other plans for me (not sure what that means) but I will help as much as I can. For months I have been thinking that there is a path, a direction, that has been set for me to use my abilities in helping the church and the mission work that they do around the world. After saying this I will now tell you what the message in church was Sunday, the message was about the Path that God has set out for you. Coincidence, I don’t think so. Now, I’m not very good with the bible, but my understanding of the service was that we are given a path, that path has no walls keeping us on the path and obstacles along the way that may tempt us to veer, and it’s our choice on what we do along that path. Most of my life paths  look like the trails used by deer in a woods, yes they do use trails, but they create new ones in different directions as though they’re not sure on which directions they should be going. They’re not lost, but walk with no clear direction. I have decided to take that path given to me and I’m excited about it. I’m not saying there won’t be bumps, and some decisions made might not be the best, but I will fight the urge to wonder off into a different path. Because the path given is the best and most exciting path that I can take.

It was a fun house party on November 21st.
More like a house dance party with three different DJs.

Decided to go to this show/party while still being sick. Hoping I didn’t make anyone I know very sick.
Despite being sick, totally enjoyed and had a fun time.
People who attended had a great time.
pH started off the set and it was a fun set.
Karn played next and he was like wow. Surprised he played a remix of Think About Life’s Sweet Sixteen.
I didn’t stay long for Cadence Weapon’s set but his set sounded amazing, he started off with Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Heads Will Roll.
He mostly did a DJ set so I don’t think he was doing any rapping for this show.
Stayed there for about 30 minutes. He also played Roy Orbinson’s “You Got It”.
Overall it was a crazy house party/show.
