I tillegg til at det er interessant å se noen av mine favoritter bli nominert, var det særlig interessant å se hvordan plater jeg har anmeldt gjennom året er nominert. Det dreier sego m ikke mindre enn sju av de platene jeg har anmeldt i år.</p>

<p>Og selvsagt vurderer jeg mine egne karakterer opp mot det faktum at disse platene nå er nominert for Grammy. Jeg ga i sin tid Beyoncés plate 3, og synes fortsatt ikke den er på høyde med hennes beste plate (som er <em>B&#8217;day</em> fra 2006), jeg ga Seal og Lily Allen 4, Allen Toussaint, Emerson String Quartet og Arvo Pärt fikk alle 5, mens Fred Jonny Berg fikk 1 fra meg på karakteren. I ettertid er det sånn sett to plater jeg ville revurdere: Allen Toussaint har jeg gledet meg veldig over, og muligens skulle den hatt en 6&#8242;er i stedet, og en lignede endring har skjedd i forhold til Lily Allen, som jeg i dag nok ville gitt en 5&#8242;er. Når det gjelder Beyoncé, som ser ut til å kunne bli Grammys store dronning – i tillegg til de sju nominasjonene for <em>I Am … Sasha Fierce</em> har hun to nominasjoner mer – så har jeg ikke endret mening om karakteren på platen. Og når det gjelder &#8220;Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)&#8221; synes jeg fortsatt det er en låt med en enerverende tekst, en tekst som kjønnspolitisk nærmest er reaksjonær (og der tankene går til Sarah Palin snarere enn Barack Obama), med et totalt fravær av et kontemporært kvinnesyn. Men når den blir framført slik som dette, som er en live prøve, så er jeg villig til å se helt bort fra teksten, og bare nyte den groovy framføringen.</p>

<p>I fell in love with a store today, <a href="http://www.pip-squeakchapeau.com">Pip-Squeak Chapeau</a>.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s the three month old, concept store of designer <a href="http://svetadresher.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sveta Dresher</a>.</p>

<p>There was something magical about the whitewashed floorboards and videography on the walls playing to Arvo Pärt (who&#8217;s name she kindly wrote down for me).  The multi-sensory experience was like walking through clouds and made me want to touch each of the natural fiber, frilly and knitty items &#8211; the perfect environment for such tactile things.</p>
<p>I wanted everything!  From every hand-made chiffon skirt and knitted dress, to each carefully chosen journal&#8230;this is going to be dangerous&#8230;</p>
<p>At least my new found obsession with Estonian composer, <a href="http://www.last.fm/music/Arvo+Pärt" target="_blank">Arvo Pärt</a> won&#8217;t cost me too much:</p>

<p>encontrado por casualidad, aunque se dice que las casualidades no existen. Rebobinando: me dejo caer por<em> kind of blue</em>, una tienda de música a la vuelta del estudio, atendida por personajes curiosos, entre ellos uno de aspecto japonés, sonriente, de mechas blancas sobre los hombros, quien declara que siente deseos de <em>estrangular</em> a Keith Jarret cada vez que lanza gemidos al piano, eso mientras yo les estaba comprando un CD del propio Keith Jarret. Días más tarde regresé a la tienda, a la busca de algún sonido nuevo para mi espíritu, algo, una necesidad imprecisa, y sin saber mucho qué hacer anoté mentalmente algunos de los nombres de los CDs más atractivos (me guío sobre todo por los colores y las tipografías) para revisarlos luego en You Tube. Ahí escuché <em>Spiegel im Spiegel</em> de <a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arvo_P%C3%A4rt">Arvo Pärt </a>(una composición minimalista en base a 3 ó 4 notas), me pareció entre tonta y mística, no sé si es total, o si figura quizá en alguna serie de <em>relaxation music</em>…. Nuevamente a la tienda, cojo el CD de Arvo y además uno de jazz nórdico como por poner miscelánea, y me permito indagar un poco con el dependiente, quien me asegura sonriendo que el jazz europeo es en general, lamentable. Añade que para quienes les gusta <em>eso</em>, el CD nórdico que acaricio con la mano puede estar bien. Me decido, pues, por Arvo (carísimo), y ahora sus tres notas blanquean mi estudio.</p>

<p>Con quale passo cominciare questo bianco, stasera. Questo bianco virtuale, questa lavagnetta internet su cui goccio inchiostro e piccola luce? Luce non mia. Io non sono niente. Viene da fuori e da sola riverbera. Comincio con un grazie per chi passa: per esempio i viandanti, i cacciatori, i pellegrini, le anime rosse, gli affamati che hanno in pancia la carestia e in bocca il desiderio. E proseguo con un grazieseme a chi si ferma, si siede, respira dentro questa piccola luce ed esce. Con un grazie a chi iscrive questa piccola luce virtuale nascendo due parole proprie a commento delle mie. <!--more-->Come i contadini che seminavano grano, con quel gesto ampio di fede. Il mio qui non è separazione, rifugio, non risposta, non è assenza dall’altro, non rispondendo.</p>
<p>Il mio qui faro è un tratto breve di terra che fa l’amore con i naviganti e con il mare. Dentro il fuoco della lampada e dentro anche la tempesta del cielo. Ma dentro anche il corpo di chi si ferma e si siede.</p>
<p>Questa sera la neve scende assomigliando alle farfalle o ai petali dei ciliegi. Ko Un canta in un luogo lontanissimo e io lo sento.  Da un’isola. Il mare ci congiunge. Il vento. La stessa neve. Lo stesso cono di luce che protegge e diffonde il suo canto.</p>

<p>Poco più di cento pagine che fanno bene al petto. Già il fatto che la pubblicazione sia stata finanziata dal Korea Literature Translation Institute. Che un editore creda nella poesia, sfondando i confini, con l’aiuto di una studiosa traduttrice, di una donna che porta la torcia viva nel mondo come Vincenza D’Urso. Che un miracolo come il progetto di una traduzione venga aiutato economicamente annodando distanze, paesi, culture. Sia benedetta la traduzione, il confronto.</p>
<p>Poche cose esprimo: l’opera raccoglie una scelta da cinque raccolte estratte dal periodo migliore del poeta, dopo il 1992.  La poesia scende scende scende e improvvisamente diventa vasta. Si deposita sul foglio come una caduta precisa di neve. Semplice, chiarissima, limpida, abbagliante. E al lettore è dato camminare, con lentezza, con respiro, accogliendo l’oriente, la luce nel vuoto. Ko Un non è astratto: prende la parola e la impegna con un gesto terrestre, così come le riproduzioni nere delle sue pennellate: creature sul foglio: creature cantanti.  Lui dice: <em>Le poesie non esistono in antologie materiali. L’universo, lo spazio, l’immensità del tempo sono il loro palcoscenico più consono. </em>E dice: <em>…ma negli anni settanta, dopo la seconda guerra mondiale, dopo Auschwitz, dopo la Guerra di Corea e il conseguente nichilismo (ci chiedemmo con dolore se la poesia potesse avere più un senso), quando un giovane operaio si suicida in segno di protesta contro le disumane condizioni di lavoro. </em>E dice come rispondendo a sé stesso: <em>Io ho semplicemente scritto perché non scrivere sarebbe stato per me una condizione insostenibile. </em>Ma la necessità della scrittura ha consapevolezza dell’impermanenza, del movimento cosmologico dentro cui scompare la soggettività egoica, del ritmo, dell’eco, dell’energia che danza e fluisce nel canto. In questi fogli, la neve profuma non solo di Buddismo Zen – <em>Ko Un nel 1952 decide di entrare in monastero e prende i voti da monaco buddista. Studia meditazione Sŏn  e nel decennio successivo viaggia per tutta la Corea vivendo di elemosine…ma la corruzione che dilaga negli ambienti clericali buddisti diventa fonte di grande frustrazione…e sveste l’abito monacale per ritornare alla vita laic –. </em>Ko Un<em> </em>non è poeta astratto, ma ha in mano  tutti i fili della tessitura storica della Corea, dai servizi segreti sud coreani che lo arrestano, lo imprigionano varie volte, torturato, condannato all’ergastolo dalla Corte Marziale, militante nel movimento per i diritti umani e in quello dei lavoratori, tra tentativi di suicidio e resistenza civile e lirica. Sempre per una riappacificazione delle due Coree. Più volte nominato candidato per la Corea al Premio Nobel per la Letteratura. Tradotto in tutto il mondo ma …quanto è poco conosciuto qui in Italia.</p>
<p>Nasce nel 1933 e ancora canta grazie alla brava traduttrice e a un editore. Grazie a chi ascolta e ridiffonde il suo canto.</p>

<p>I just went on an iTunes shopping spree.  I figure my days of pirating music are over, now that I have a legitimate job and, y&#8217;know, money to spend on things.  I&#8217;ve bought a lot of Takacs Quartet stuff lately.  I&#8217;d never really listened closely to any of their stuff before this week, but I bought their album of the Dvorak piano quintet and quickly fell in love with them, and then quickly bought their Bartok (6 String Quartets) and Schubert (Death and the Maiden and Rosamunde) albums.  Also got roped into buying an Arvo Part album of his choral works, which actually might be the surprise favorite of the week.  I immediately burned it onto a cd and have been playing (read: BLARING) it in my car nonstop.  Well, that and Kings of Leon.  Anyway, the most recent album I bought is Appalachia Waltz by Edgar Meyer (the double bassist), Yo-Yo Ma (duh), and Mark O&#8217;Connor (the violinist).  It&#8217;s my recommendation for the weekend.  The resonance!  So lush and satisfying.  The title track (Appalachia Waltz) is just beautiful.  Youtube it and then bask in the fantastic depth of the harmonies.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a taste for ya.  This really is musicianship at its best.</p>

<p>During its third season at City Center last week, <a href="http://www.morphoses.org/index.cfm" target="_blank">Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company</a> offered six ballets over two programs, along with behind-the-scenes videos of the dancers rehearsing at Martha’s Vineyard, live music, and a pre-curtain greeting from Christopher Wheeldon himself.  There always seems to be a lot of fuss (both good and bad) over this three-year-old company – the “Ballet=Sexy” motto sparked interest in its first season, high-profile costume designers and dancers got attention in 2008, and this year’s uninspiring videos received criticism for focusing on butterflies and blueberries instead of on the choreographic process – along with speculation about how Wheeldon’s choices shape The Future of Ballet.  Once all of the excess is stripped away and the expectations about Wheeldon filling Balanchine’s shoes are set aside, Morphoses appears to be a struggling dance company with flawed programs and inconsistent choreography – not unlike many other contemporary ballet troupes.</p>
<p>Last Friday evening’s program started out strongly with <em>Continuum </em>(2002), part of Wheeldon’s trilogy of works set to music by Gyorgy Ligeti.  Featuring four couples, a thornily intriguing piano score, upside down scissoring legs and spidery hands, the work was structurally and choreographically similar to Wheeldon’s 2001 ballet <em>Polyphonia</em>.  The geometric partnering was set within a meditative atmosphere that felt otherworldly yet grounded.</p>

<p>Paul Lightfoot and Sol León’s <em>Softly as I Leave You</em>, second on the program,<em> </em>was an insincere, angst-filled portrayal of the end of a relationship.  Drew Jacoby and Rubinald Pronk are talented dancers, but this work, which used the unusual pairing of Bach and Arvo Pärt, mainly featured their high extensions and flexible torsos as they struggled in and around a coffin.  They deserved better, and so did the audience.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, Wheeldon’s newest work, <em>Rhapsody Fantaisie</em>, was a lackluster close to the program.  Set to a lush piano score by Rachmaninoff with a bizarre backdrop of windsocks by Los Carpinteros, six couples in deep red costumes swept through movement that combined ballet vocabulary with folk dance influences and imaginative lifts.  But it was all a blur, rushing by so quickly with nothing and nobody catching the eye, except for the radiant Wendy Whelan in a duet with Andrew Crawford.  Their <em>pas de deux</em> demonstrated how Wheeldon’s movement is most enlightening when it slows down and allows both the audience and dancers to pause and sink their teeth into his choreographic cornucopia.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/25/arts/dance/25sulc.html?ref=dance" target="_blank">Wheeldon recently confessed</a> that he’s uncertain about the future of Morphoses, citing fundraising obstacles and the stress of managing a dance company while also choreographing for it.  These are challenges faced by many choreographers who start their own companies, except that Wheeldon was already in the spotlight and gaining plenty of publicity when he founded Morphoses because of his time as a New York City Ballet dancer and resident choreographer.  For Wheeldon to abandon Morphoses after such a short amount of time would be cowardly.  There are countless other struggling companies – many of which have been around for much longer than three years – that have persisted with fewer resources and smaller budgets than that of Morphoses.  The company has been extremely fortunate to have performed at Sadler’s Wells, the Vail International Dance Festival, and City  Center over the past three years, and there are plans to tour to several cities internationally in 2010.  Performing worldwide is impressive for such a young company, but perhaps Morphoses should focus on smaller, local projects before calling it quits so that Wheeldon can devote his energies to the choreographic process.</p>

<p>A reissue of the astonishing debut recording from Max Richter, a composer whose mastery of tonality and melody place him alongside  Arvo Pärt, Henryk Górecki and Michael Nyman in the modern classical catalogue. there are other elements of Max Richter&#8217;s work that recall Gavin Bryars, John Cale&#8217;s soundtrack projects and even Brian Eno in his use of electronics and &#8216;found&#8217; voices. Memoryhouse is an invocation of old Europe, the ghosts of Sarajevo, even Versailles can be heard, orphaned voices reaching through the static, the faded grandeur of fallen empires and doomed campaigns. This is a work about reclaiming lost beauty, breathing new life into a past which has been devalued, a history that has been forgotten.   </p>

Das Theater wird zum &#8220;Underground&#8221;(Titel vom zweiten Teil Choreogr. Ricardo Fernando),wo sich alles entfaltet und gelebt werden darf.</p>
<p>Dazu der Kontrast im ersten Teil des Ballettabends von Choreograf Eric Oberdorff.Leise,ruhig,nahe und fein ist es hier.<br />
Zu der Musik von Giya Kancheli sehen wir eine Komposition aus Licht,Bewegung und Tanz.Es tanzen die Tänzer in goldenem Kostüm &#8220;Libre&#8221;.Es geht immer wieder um das Thema &#8220;Freiheit&#8221; und der Überschreitung von Grenzen.<br />
Immer wieder schwingend,sich an Kräften summierend werden Lichtkreise,Quadrate und Diagonalen gebrochen und überschritten;fließend,zeitrafferartig und immer sind die dazu benötigten Kräfte im Spiel.</p>
<p>&#8220;Absence&#8221;  als Abwesensheitszustand.Bleischwer,geschockt,das Verletztbare nach Außen gestülpt und immer wieder zu Boden rieselnd wie Laub bewegt sich Carla Silva. Ihr Partner Malthe Clemens fängt sie immer wieder auf,weist ihr die Richtung oder versucht ihr wieder halt zu geben.Die beiden bewegen sich ebenfalls auch in physikalischen Kräften von &#8220;Fallen und Auffangen&#8221;wie zusammengehörige Glieder einer Kette.<br />
Die Musik von Arvo Pärt (Spiegel im Spiegel) unterstützt das Bild vom Zartem,Vorsichtige,Langsame und Behutsamen Verhalten.Auch relativ dunkel ist hier das Bühnenbild.</p>
<p>Bach diesem schwereren ersten Teil folgt der Umschwung:<br />
Bereits in der Pause dann beginnt schon das musikalische lebendige: Im Theatercafe hört man schon einen Saxophonspieler der eine jazzige freie und bunte Atmosphäre einläutet.<br />
Kommt man zurück in den Theatersaal sind wir Im Underground.Die Szenerie geht über den Orchestergraben;die verschiedensten &#8220;Vögel&#8221; wickeln sich in Decken,laufen über die Bühne oder verstecken sich in Kisten.Im Hintergrund Videoeinspielungen von U-Bahnstationen.(Ausstatter Jan Bammes).Hier leben alle die in der &#8220;normalen&#8221;Welt keinen Platz mehr haben,hier leben und träumen sie weiter.<br />
17 Titel Tom Waits Musik inklusiv Live Saxophon Begleitung von Gerrit Rentz kommen nun zur Geltung.Bunt,faccettenreich wird in dieser schwofig lebendig gefüllten Stimmung getrommelt,gezaubert,geträumt getanzt,geschrien gesungen und natürlich getanzt.Stets prieselt Lustiges und Schmunzeliges dazwischen.Umwerfende herzliche Leistung der Hagener Truppe!</p>

<p>„Damals, bei der Entstehung meiner heutigen Musik, hatte ich alle Hände voll zu tun, um mich selbst innerlich auf die Beine zu bringen und meine eigenen Probleme zu lösen. Ich musste mich in einen Zustand versetzen, in den ich eine Musiksprache finden könnte, mit der ich leben wollte. Ich war auf der Suche nach einem Klanginselchen. Auf der Suche nach einem „Ort“ in meinem tiefsten Innern, wo, sagen wir so – ein Dialog mit Gott entstehen könnte. Ihn zu finden wurde eine lebenswichtige Aufgabe für mich. Ich bin sicher, dass ein solches Bedürfnis – bewusst oder unbewusst – zu jedem Menschen gehört, und vielleicht wissen das viele von Ihnen, und Sie erkennen, wovon ich rede.<br />
Wenn wir durch ein Rastertunnelmikroskop irgendeine Substanz oder einen Gegenstand betrachten, dann sieht die tausendfache Vergrößerung ganz offensichtlich anders aus als die millionenfache Vergrößerung. Wenn man sich durch die verschiedenen Stadien der Vergrößerung bewegt, kann man in jeder Materie bis dahin unvorstellbare und ziemlich chaotische Landschaften entdecken. Irgendwann aber gibt es eine Grenze, die bei etwa dreißigmillionenfacher Vergrößerung liegt. Hier sind die phantastischen Landschaften verschwunden, und wir sehen nur eine strenge Geometrie, eine Art Netz, sehr klar und sehr speziell. Was nun verwundert, ist die Tatsache, dass diese Geometrie selbst bei ganz unterschiedlichen Substanzen oder Gegenständen sehr ähnlich aussieht.</p>
<p>Gilt etwas ähnliches vielleicht auch für das Menschenwesen? Lassen Sie und ein wenig phantasieren. Versuchen wir, eine Menschenseele quasi unter einem solchen Mikroskop zu beobachten, wobei wir nach und nach den Grad der Vergrößerung erhöhen. Wir werden Zeuge sein, wie alle äußeren Merkmale eines Menschen mit all seinen Besonderheiten, seinen Schwächen und Tugenden im Verlauf der zunehmenden Vergrößerung mehr und mehr aus dem Bild verschwinden. Es wird wie ein endloser Verkürzungsprozess sein, der uns in die Richtung des Wesentlichen führt. Hinter uns lassen wir auf dieser „Reise ins Innere“ auch alle gesellschaftlichen, kulturellen, politischen und religiösen Kontexte. Am Ende gelangen wir zu einem netzartigen Grundmuster. Man könnte es vielleicht als „menschliche Geometrie“ bezeichnen, klar geordnet, ruhig geformt – vor allem aber schön. In dieser Tiefe sind wir uns alle so ähnlich, dass wir in jedem anderen uns selbst erkennen könnten. Und diese Ebene könnte die einzige sein, auf der eine wirklich funktionierende (Friedens-) Brücke überhaupt vorstellbar wäre, wo all unsere Probleme – falls sie es dann noch gibt – lösbar wären.</p>
<p>Es ist für mich eine große Versuchung, diese so schön geordnete Ur-Substanz, diese kostbare Insel in der inneren Verborgenheit unserer Seele, als den „Ort“ anzusehen, über den uns vor 2000 Jahren gesagt wurde, dass Gottes Reich dort sei – nämlich in unserem Inneren. Unabhängig davon, ob wir alt oder jung sind, reich oder arm, Frau oder Mann, farbig oder weiß, begabt oder weniger begabt. Und so versuche auch ich bis heute, mich auf dem Pfad zu halten auf der Suche nach dieser so heiß ersehnten „Zauberinsel“, wo alle Menschen – für mich auch alle Klänge – in Liebe miteinander leben könnten. Die Türen dorthin sind für jedermann geöffnet. Aber der Weg dahin ist schwierig – schwierig bis zur Verzweiflung“. &#8211; (Quelle: Zeitung)</p>

Was verbirgit sich hinter dieser Idee?</p>
<p>Das Matinee heute morgen gab einen Einblick in drei Stücke die allesamt als Grundtonus eine gewisse gedecktheit in sich tragen,im &#8220;Underground&#8221; stattfinden,ja sozusagen auch im &#8220;untergrund&#8221; der menschlichen Basis.Kein Ballast oder schwere erscheint.Da stehen Menschen die leben und das intensiv.Es geht um sehr Nahe,existenzielle Beziehungen und Begebenheiten.</p>
<p>Die Musik von Tom Waits und die Choreografie von Ricardo Fernando &#8220;Underground&#8221;,erinnert an die moderne heutige &#8220;Hip Hop Jugend&#8221; Szene,an das Leben auf der Straße,aber eben auch an ein gereifteres Leben,das schon ein gewisse Färbung in sich trägt.<br />
Obwohl es undergroundig ist und es U-Bahn Stationen in der Tiefe,am Bahnhsteig und kurz vorm Zug vom Bühnenbild her geben soll,immer auch lebendig mit viel Lebensenergie.Eine humorvolle Nummer ( ein Männer Deux) zu Tom Waits gecovertem &#8220;Somewhere(Bernstein) und roten Clownnasen fehlt auch nicht.<br />
Was man heute tänzerisch kurz sehen konnte,war von höchsten zeitgenössischem Niveau.Sehr stimmig in der Gesammtheit und mit viel Weitblick gestaltet.</p>
<p>Von dem erfolgreichen Choreographen Eric Oberdorff(Leitder der  Compagnie Humaine in Nizza)wird es &#8220;Libre&#8221; und &#8220;Absence&#8221; zu sehen geben zu Musiken von Arvo Pärt(Spiegel im Spiegel) und Giya Kancheli.<br />
Sehr human geht es auch hier zu;in Absence geht es um einen Zustand der Abwesenheit,einen Zustand den man evtl.durch  einen plötzlichen seelischen Schock hineingeraten ist.<br />
Im gezeigten Ausschnitt ist eine Frau diese Person.Zart,zerbrechlich fällts sie immer wieder wie Blätter hin und her schwankend fast zu Boden.Eine innere Wunde ist geöffnet;schutzlos und verletzbar nach Außen.<br />
Doch ein Mann fängt sie immer wieder auf,hält sie fest oder weist ihr sanft eine Richtung.<br />
Zarte,sanfte,kleine,langsame Bewegungen belassen dieses Stück als etwas sehr authenitsches und kostbares.</p>
<p>&#8220;Libre&#8221; beinhaltest die Freiheit des Choreografs und des Tanzes ansich.Tanz der sich aus der Musik entwickelt und mit der Bühnentechnick harmonisiert.</p>
<p>Nighthawks als einen Ballettabend der insgesamt im Untergrund stattfindet,im bedeckten abgegrauten Bereich,dennoch bunt,lebendig,augenzwinkernt humorvoll und vor allem menschlich.<br />
Jugendlich mit reifer Färbung.</p>
<p>Ricardo Fernando und Dr. Maria Hilchenbach erklärten mit viel sagendem Blick es werde noch viele Überraschungen geben&#8230;.</p>

<p>Arvo Pärt (nacido el 11 de septiembre de 1935 en Paide, Estonia) es un compositor estonio identificado a menudo con la escuela minimalista y, más específicamente, con el llamado «minimalismo santo» o «minimalismo sagrado». Es considerado por Pedro Luis Martín Olivares un pionero de este estilo, junto con sus contemporáneos Henryk Górecki y John Tavener. Arvo Pärt es un autor conocido por las obras de su segundo período compositivo.</p>
<p>La educación musical de Pärt se inició a los siete años de edad, cuando comenzó a asistir a la escuela musical de Rakvere, población en la que vivía su familia durante aquella época. A los catorce o quince años ya escribía sus propias composiciones. Posteriormente asistió al conservatorio de Tallin, donde cursó estudios de composición bajo la supervisión de Heino Eller.</p>
<p>Aunque en el momento del nacimiento de Pärt, Pedro Luis Martín nos informa que Estonia era una nación independiente, la Unión Soviética la ocupó en 1940 como resultado del Pacto Molotov-Ribbentrop y el país permaneció bajo control soviético durante los siguientes 51 años, a excepción de un periodo de tres años de ocupación alemana durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.</p>
<p>La obra de Pärt se divide generalmente en dos periodos. Sus primeros trabajos parten de postulados neoclásicos bastante severos, influidos por las obras de Shostakovich, Prokofiev y Bartók.</p>

Vreau să spun că <strong><em>Arvo Part</em></strong> e un artist absolut obligatoriu de ascultat! Cei care iubim muzica rămânem surprinşi în faţa unor compozitori contemporani care te mişcă peste măsură aşa cum o face <strong><em>Arvo Part</em></strong>.  Muzica lui e hipnotică. Când l-am ascultat prima data m-am simţit transportată într-o lume din care nu vrei să te întorci. Poţi intra în muzica lui, poţi trăi acolo. </p>
<p>Un alt compozitor minimalist, <em><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHVMVDhC-UA">Steve Reich</a></em>,  spune despre <strong><em>Part</em></strong> că e complet pe lângă curentul principal şi totuşi foarte popular. Muzica lui umple o profundă necesitate umană care n-are nimic de-a face cu moda.  </p>
<p><strong><em>Arvo Part</em></strong> (1935 &#8211; Estonia) este identificat cu muzica minimalistă, mai exact cu minimalismul sacru.  În 1977 se remarcă marele <strong><em>Part</em></strong> pe care-l adorăm azi. Atunci îi apar piesele cele mai faimoase <em>“Fratres”,</em> „<em>Cantus in</em> <em>memoriam Benjamin Britten</em>” sau „<em>Tabula rasa</em>”. Multe dintre compoziţiile lui poartă marca ECM. La 61 de ani a fost distins ca membru al American Academy of Arts and Letters. </p>
<p>„Muzica mea este asemenea unei lumini albe: doar când trece printr-o prismă se divide şi apar toate culorile. Prisma asta este spiritul fiecărui ascultător”.  <strong><em>Arvo Part</em></strong></p>

<p>Already from 1997, this interview features the odd encounter of pop fairy Björk and Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. Not much of Pärt&#8217;s spirituality and unique compositional style is revealed in this little talk. More insight provides this exerpt from the documentary &#8220;24 Preludes for a Fugue&#8221;, Arvo Pärt talks about his composition &#8220;Für Alina&#8221; and demonstrates its structure on a keyboard. In his words: &#8220;Such signals sometimes sound as if they lasted an entire life. Or future, or past, outside time. A blade of grass has the status of a flower. To see in this tiny phrase, something more than just the black and white key.&#8221;</p>

<p>His vulnerable appearance reminds me of the character of the Stalker in Tarkovsky&#8217;s film by the same name, played by Alexander Kajdanowski. Talking of Tarkovsky: here is a last example of Pärt&#8217;s music cut against an edit of the film &#8220;Mirror&#8221;, the compositions name is, &#8220;Mirror in the Mirror&#8221;.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Check out the &#8216;Media&#8217; page for a recording I made last year of Arvo Pärt&#8217;s <em>Fratres for Cello and Piano</em>.  This piece, made especially popular when Johnny Greenwood used it for the soundtrack in &#8220;There Will Be Blood&#8221;, is one of many instrumentations Pärt arranged of the original work <em>Fratres</em>.  The piece involves a simple melody harmonized in a very organized fashion.  Following a period of musical silence, Pärt wrote almost entirely in this style which he termed <em>tintinnabuli</em>.  While the music produced sounds quite ethereal, the process which precedes it is very ordered and formulaic. </p>

<p>In this particular arrangement, the piano plays the melody in various inversions which automatically requires a change in harmony (based on the tintinnabulation system) which, in turn, causes changes in character and timbre.  The cello, using a great variety of techniques from arpeggiation to double stops to false harmonics, mostly provides a timbral backdrop to the primary material in the piano.</p>
