She favoured tight braids during the early stages of her Girls Aloud career and now Cheryl Cole has rediscovered the look.

The X Factor judge left rehearsals last night sporting two cornrows down one side of her head with the rest of her mane pined back into a loose bun.

Dressed in gradual fade jeans, a grey blazer and the same colour shoe-boots, she stopped to sign autographs for fans as she headed home for the evening.

She was joined by a black puppy – she has famously admitted she trusts her canine companions more than husband Ashley – which she escorted out in a fluffy bag.

Cheryl’s hair has almost taken on a life of it’s on in recent weeks.

Her famous dark mane secured her a lucrative deal with L’Oreal, but the advertisements went on to attract a fierce backlash.

In the campaign for Elvive Full Restore 5, a shampoo and conditioner range, she credits the products with making her hair ‘full of life’.

But it received complaints it was ‘misleading’ because it makes little reference to her £1,000 hair extensions.

This week she swapped those famous tumbling brunette curls for a bold suicide blonde wig in the new video for her upcoming single, 3 Words.

Of course, the 26-year-old is concerned with more than just her hairstyle today – she is preparing to cheer on her X Factor proteges Lloyd Daniels and JoeMcElderry tonight as they take on Elton John and Take That.

Joe, who received a standing ovation last week by all four judges, is set to perform Elton’s Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word and Take That’s Could It Be Magic.

Lloyd will sing I’m Still Standing, appropriately enough, and A Million Love Songs.

Joe is the 13/8 favourite to scoop the £1 million recording deal while Lloyd is widely expected to be eliminated on Sunday night.

He been an ‘emotional wreck’ this week, according to producers, and has been comforted by his mentor after threatening to quit.

A L’Oreal advert fronted by Cheryl Cole is at the centre of a row after viewers accused the X Factor judge of misleading them.

Cole, 26, appears in a television ad in which she sings the praises of L’Oreal Elvive Full Restore 5, a shampoo and conditioner range. Thirteen viewers have complained to the Advertising Standards Authority about the commercial because Cole wears hair extensions.

The authority, however, rejected the claims as a message is shown during the advert, which says that Cole’s hair is styled with some natural extensions.

It is worth noting that the hair extensions are made from natural hair.

A problem would only arise if the ad did not make clear that she is wearing these extensions. It is also worth noting that the hair extensions are made from natural hair and have been treated with the products that are being advertised.

However, Cole’s hairdresser Julien Guyonnet has reportedly revealed that she uses artificial fibre extensions because the glue used for natural ones was damaging her hair.

While L’Oreal spokesperson said that they were unaware of Cole’s artificial extensions, Cheryl Cole said that the ad is not breaking any rule. The company doesn’t have to comment anything about what type of hair extensions as these are personal questions.

The smoke and mirrors surrounding the beauty industry are slowing chipping away. Thanks to outrage o

The smoke and mirrors surrounding the beauty industry are slowing chipping away.

Thanks to outrage over airbrushing nightmares and models exposing the ugly side of modeling, is it possible that unattainable beauty ideals are fading?

The latest semi-scandal involves a television ad in the UK for L’Oréal Elvive Full Restore 5 hair care line (not available in the US). The ad (watch it above) features singer Cheryl Cole praising the collection for making her chestnut locks “full of life, replenished with healthy shine.”

There’s just one problem. Cole is wearing hair extensions — and people are angry about it. The London Times reports that Cole has been not-so-secretly sporting extensions for several years now and they are a part of her look, but that hasn’t stopped viewers from expressing their outrage.

L’Oréal’s stance is that they are within their legal rights — a message quickly flashes on the screen to state “styled with some natural hair extensions.” Did you catch it?

So here’s the question: Is this false advertising? And are women being force fed unrealistic visions of beauty that ultimately make them feel worse about themselves?

The other side of the coin is this — who really believes it? Do women who see the ad really believe it’s Cole’s natural hair or is everyone jaded enough to realize what’s going on? By now we’ve seen enough weekly tabloid “Stars Without Makeup” exposé features to see that even A-listers look like crud when they’re at the grocery store.

This isn’t the first (or last) time beauty ads have come under fire. Rimmel got in truh-ble a few years ago for digitally enhancing Kate Moss’ eyelashes for a mascara ad.

Much of this story, of course, began last Fall.

Christy, Haley Anne, and Hannah E. were coming off an undefeated U12 season at ASA. Christy and Haley Anne were invited to play-up for the struggling U14 Blast in the ASA Cup. This gave Christy and Haley Anne an opportunity to rejoin Shockers alum AC with whom they had won the U12 Extreme Cup the prior Spring. Coach Chris and I Observed that patch-work team play together (three draws), and got to know some of the parents. And, we saw great promise.

Drama (and, that is certainly an understatement) was afoot as Chris and I decided to break from ASA, and pull the core of our U12 team up early into U14. We merged with that Blast squad, regrouped with Mars and Hannah D., and built a team around a focused goal of going to the Spring State Cup.

That U14 team exceeded all expectations, and the story is chronicled on this team blogsite at.

I feel the stage was set, in epic fashion, as we returned to ASA this past weekend for the ASA Cup.

With a pair of key defenders injured (Claire and Loren) and others expected to be on holiday, we knew our U16 Shockers were going to be low on reserves. I had not really thought about it (and, truthfully so) until we arrived at The Polo Grounds (with my heart, admittedly, in my throat), but Christy and Haley Anne (with their hearty and ferocious U14 teammate Rachel) were once again joining an older squad to lend support. The vital difference this year was a more than reasonable expectation that we could win a Cup (and, coach Brian might realize a promise he made to the Claire and Grace the prior year).

Match One Saturday U16 Shockers vs. ASA Xplosion

In the very first match Saturday, under perfect condition to include cobalt blue skies, we faced ASA Xplosion. This is a hand-picked team of select players, many of whom have played together for over four years, dropped into the Rec divisions with the specific mission to win a State Cup in the coming Spring. The team is trained more often than not by Jeff Salas, one of the ASA directors who has a daughter on the squad. They were undefeated through the Fall season. We are told they averaged six goals per match against all opponents, and often won by shut-out, with only four goals scored against them in the regular season.

That was precisely the test I wanted, as we are really only now peaking, coming into our own, and preparing for Athens.

The Xplosion defense lived up to their training. Our vaunted Shockers attack had much fewer shots on goal than usual. But, we pressed hard, passed well, with very good communication, and saw the ball often on their end of the pitch. At roughly the 20th minute in the first half, Christy found herself facing a rebounded ball, spinning off a cross from Shelby, and placed it neatly into the back of the Xplosion net. I can look back on that match now and understand that we should have then changed our lineup to keep Xplosion on their heels. However, our intensity never let up. Both sides fought hard and passed well. We’ll offer no excuses. But, our defense that day was just getting accustomed to the lineup and the addition of Haley Anne. We had some miscommunication, and the very experienced Xplosion were able to convert on two goals. The final score was 2 to 1 in favor of Xplosion, but our Shockers were clearly under their skin.

And, we had a terrific opportunity on our hands (if not our boots).

I took the position that we had a dramatic opportunity to demonstrate only great character, come off this tough loss, and fight our way into the finals to face the Xplosion for a rematch.

Match Two Saturday U16 Shockers vs. AFU Cheetahs

That thinking and objective took us to our second match of the day and against league rivals AFU Cheetahs. And, of course, there would be a brilliant twist!

We had already beaten Cheetahs 3 to 2 earlier in the season; and, ironically, in the driving rain. Our 2nd regular season match had been rained out and needed to be rescheduled. We needed the points to overtake Cheetahs sister team Angels for the league championship. I had suggested to the Cheetah coach that we use the tournament match to decide the league tally. So, our second match of the tournament had both a Cup and a League championship on the line (I did not mention this to our Shockers even though several parents knew).

Cheetahs had just beaten the ASA Rockets 1 to 0 earlier in the day, and were well positioned to advance. All they had to do was get past us for the finals. To put matters into perspective, Cheetahs had played in the finals at Kohls Cup the prior weekend.

I’ll submit to you, and right now, that every Shocker on the pitch brought both their heart and their best boots to that match. The Cheetahs midfield and defense are stubborn and skilled. The ball failed to bounce in any one teams favor. Both sides broke the others fast breaks and used the sidelines like professionals found at the World Cup level. Lauren came up with several key saves (including a heart-stopping melee right in front of our net). Our defense were pulling themselves together under the leadership of Megan while Lindsay was playing as though possessed. Haley Anne was getting used to the speed-of-play at the U16 level and offered up several timely transition kicks. Although I think it might have been Grace that frustrated the Cheetahs Forwards the most, I’ll pick Kelsie’s Stopper play as the most dominating. As we transitioned the ball, Michelle demonstrated some very savvy passing. However, it was the gritty play of U14 reserve Rachel and always reliable KC that kept the ball moving in the right direction. Those two combined with the exceptional fighting and dribbling skills of Grayce and Shelby literally carried the day. In the first half Shelby found a brilliant cross from the right and laid the ball cleanly past the Cheetah Keeper. And, it was KC’s opportunistic BIG SHOT and score (because she FINALLY played up to the box) from thirty meters out that kept the momentum in our favor. It should be noted that the last five minutes of that match were likely the longest of my coaching (or playing). That score was 2 to 1 in favor of Shockers giving us the advantage over Cheetahs in the standings and one match away from the finals. It also put us five points over AFU Angels for the league championship – meaning that both our Shockers teams ended the regular season as respective league champions with a combined record of 17-1-2 (more about that later in a separate post).

Afterwards, walking off the pitch with Grace Guthrie, I had the opportunity to look her in the eye, and remind her that she always seems to step up and bring her best play when we need her most.

Match Three Sunday U16 Shockers vs. ASA Rockets

Sunday morning broke both cold and wet. And, our Shockers appeared to hardly notice. They showed up at ASA’s Polo Grounds all grins, and knowing what they had to do with the tournament “satisfied” as opposed to “pleased”.

The Rockets coach approached me shortly before kick-off with a chuckle. He ruefully advised me that we had clearly rattled their sister team Xplosion. The players had been texting and Facebooking beseeching Rockets to take “those Shockers” out of the final. “We knew you guys were good but wow. No one is happy here”.

The Rockets had already fallen to Xplosion 5 to 0 and Cheetahs 1 to 0. So, they had an opportunity to play the spoliers and support a Club sister team. And, many of those Rockets are good fighters. However, with Xplosion and Cheetah players haplessly watching more of our match from their sidelines than their own our Shockers may have played one of the most balanced and aggressive efforts I’ve ever seem them muster. We certainly played our typical “Shocker Ball” keeping the play on the Rockets side of the pitch over 85% of the match. Our passing was text book, the confidence supreme. Our scoring onslaught started in the first minute with Grayce’s sliding out of the back, but not before cutting the angle and hammering a jaw-dropping shot across the box into the far corner of the Rocket net. The Rocket coach summed it up nicely with “wow”. And, we could hear Salas behind us (coaching the Xplosion) adding a: “you have to watch her”! Shelby’s selfless passing was relentless. By the end of the match, we had scored eight goals (although the refs had it tallied officially at nine). Grayce had a hat-trick, and over the course of the match saw Michelle, Shelby, KC and Christy add to the scoring tally. The final official score was 9 to 1 and the U16 Shockers were in the finals and ready to face Xplosion for the Cup.

This promised to be a barn-burner. Yes it did!

Tournament Finals Sunday U16 Shockers vs. ASA Xplosion

I was, admittedly, in high spirits as I approached the Polo Grounds fields just after 2:10. Then I got the news… To keep this part of the story short, the “tournament director” had made the arbitrary decision to end all finals with penalty kicks as opposed to a complete match. Oddly, even though Patty and I were registered in the system, neither of us received the text messages announcing this decision.

In any event, one of my first thoughts was actually recalling that Grayce’s Dad, Regan, had reminded me two weeks earlier that Grayce was a very talented Goal Keeper. I made up my mind even before I called Coach Chris and Patty with the news. I knew that Xplosion and their coaches had watched our usual (and very successful) Keeper Lauren in action, and knew their penalty kick trained shooters had good odds. But, they had no idea about Grayce. And, I wanted Lauren focused as one of my shooters. I knew she would come through for us if we had her placed in the lineup properly. I started making calls to Shocker parents and making fast decisions. I knew who my shooters were. But, I also understood, in my heart and gut, who would get the job done under heart-pounding, adrenaline-drenched pressure. I walked up to Grayce with the news. In typical fashion, her first concern was for her teammate Lauren. I explained the strategy of surprise, and our need to for Lauren to focus on shooting, and Grayce decided that it would be fun! Coach Bill herded the team over to a far goal and started getting them warmed up. Within minutes Grayce was limbered up and all grins while inspiring mounting confidence from her VERY nervous, but determined, teammates.

As I pulled the team together I explained the shoot-out rules, sequence, and what to expect. I told them I felt they had earned this opportunity, and it was a day they would long remember – and, likely used as a comparison for many significant events in their lives. It was less about skill, and more so luck. Often a crap-shoot. Breathe, don’t make eye contact with the Keeper. No big run ups. Shoot for a corner. As Chris watched them intently near the net looking for a an opportunity for a quick correction, I took a moment to look at them as they chattered nervously amongst themselves. I’m not sure why, but I was surprised to see confidence, in me, in their eyes. This was not about me, mind you. But, they were listening to what I was saying. And, they understood – especially the part about not making eye contact with the Keeper. And, so I knew. We had a Cup waiting for us. We only needed to finish well.

Our players, parents, families and supporters, Shockers Nation all, were standing closely together when the ref called for coaches and captains. Upon the invitation form the head ref, we called numbers and it was decided that we would take the first shot. Little did the opposing goalie realize but this is what I wanted. I knew clear-eyed Shelby would stride purposefully up to that ball, toe it, step back – and, nail it home.

And, she did that very thing.

Our lead shooters were Shelby, Christy, Lauren, Kelsie and Grayce. Megan, Michelle and KC would follow. I stood slightly away from the group watching how the other Keeper positioned herself and how the Xplosion shooters approached the ball in terms of confidence and form. I tied my decision about which shooter to use and in which sequence, shooter-by-shooter, to what I saw happening as the drama played itself out. I felt I knew who might miss but also who would then compensate. We hit six out of eight and that is very good. It might be Megan’s shot I’ll remember the most vividly. Shoulders squared, I imagined that grim smile played across her face. Grayce also came up with two big saves. And, that is HUGE. The entire time she was in the net she had a smile on hr face. I kept looking at her thinking she was having the time of her life. I was also thinking about her Dad, all the Dad’s (and, of course Mom’s), in fact, and what a terrific organization we have. I felt grounded to the pitch as the ref turned to me, pointed, and sounded his whistle.

That’s a tough way to win a tournament. But, we earned the right to prove our fortitude, and demonstrate our nerve.

I held back wanting to savor the moment and watch the team rush Grayce, memorizing each and every (albeit dazed) smile in those faces.

I found Haley Anne first. And, then each of my Shockers. It was our day. It was a cold one to be sure. But, it was also brilliant, none the less.

A note from Mary Guthrie:

“…Sunday’s game was equally thrilling. It seemed like it went on forever. Finally, I asked the line judge how much time was left. He chuckled and said, “A long time. 15 minutes.” He then asked if we would be in the finals. I told him we hoped to be and explained we lost the first game on Saturday to the green team. “Wow. I can’t believe anyone could beat your team.” A few minutes later he continued, “I mean, this ASA team really isn’t that bad. They can play soccer. But, your team is just blowing them away.” A few minutes later, he said again, “This team is really good, every one of them. They are all really good.” I saw him again after the penalty kick championship. He congratulated me. (When I recounted the line judge story at home, Grace and Claire found this very funny. (“You didn’t even play, mom. Why did he congratulate you?”) As the Shockers were having their picture taken in the net, he turned to the official he was standing with and described the morning game. “You wouldn’t believe how good this team is…”.

[]

We’ve come so far. But, I feel like we are only, and really, just coming into our own. We have Athens in two weeks. And, if we can keep these teams together. And, I pray we do, we go to the State Cup in the Spring. And, I wonder if that’s it for me.

For any player that still wants a tournament t-shirt, we have the distributor on standby for the order. Please let me and Patty know ASAP.

I hope to see as many Shockers at practice as possible Wednesday. We have a lot of work to do as we march, Shockers Nation all, on Athens.

The promos show Cole sporting a head of long, shiny locks and promising consumers the shampoo makes “hair feels stronger, full of life, replenished with a healthy shine”.
But the company has been flooded with complaints after Cole’s hairdresser revealed the star’s luscious locks are not all her own – as she was wearing extensions in the adverts.

Disgruntled TV viewers have also taken their grievances to Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), but watchdog bosses aren’t able to uphold the complaints because of a small disclaimer in the ads which admits Cole’s hair was “styled with some natural extensions”.

A company statement from L’Oréal reads: “Cheryl has worn hair extensions for some time. They are part of her look and are cared for in the same way as normal hair.”
While a spokeswoman for Cole adds, “L’Oreal are within their rights and the ads are not breaking any rules. We would never comment on what type of hair extensions Cheryl is using because these are quite personal questions.”

ASA and PIX software version 7.0 introduced the configuration command nat-control which didn’t exist

ASA and PIX software version 7.0 introduced the configuration command nat-control which didn’t exist in previous versions of code. Although training course material for both the SNAF (Securing Networks with ASA Fundamentals) and SNAA (Securing Networks with ASA Advanced) assume that their audience will use this global configuration command, it should not be considered a “catch all” for all implementations.

The scenario depicted below is a crude approximation of what I encountered at a client location within the past 18 months. The objective of the consultation was to convert the site from using a PIX Firewall 506E (restricted to OS6.3 code) to using an ASA with version 7.x. Since the default behavior of PIX OS Code up to and including version 6.3 was effectively to enforce the use of configured nat, global and/or static config commands (essentially what nat-control does), the migration was most easily accomplished by moving the configuration over from the PIX to the ASA with a minimum of changes.

In hindsight (always 20-20 for consulting!) with the number of internal private networks and the distinct policies for connectivity between them, a simpler solution would probably have been to implement “no nat-control”. This solution would have the following advantages over using the one chosen:

Elimination of the numerous static (intf1,intf2) A.B.C.D A.B.C.D statements in the config made necessary by nat-control. These would need to be configured for ALL possible internal interface-to-interface combinations.

Troubleshooting such an implementation would be simpler, as using the security levels of the interfaces and access-lists would be all that would be required (vs needing the translation statements as well).

If full unrestricted access would be required, version 7.0 and above code supports the “same-security-traffic permit inter-interface” command which corresponds to a checkbox in ASDM entitled “Enable traffic between two or more interfaces with the same security level”. This could be enabled and at least two of the internal networks could be assigned the same security level thus eliminating the need for any ACLs.

Now that we have mentioned the advantages, to be fair we should list some of the caveats:

By using “no nat-control” the potential danger exists of having your private networks “leak” out to the Internet untranslated. Although your ISP (and others, hopefully!) won’t be able route back to these networks, it provides unnecessary visibility of the actual identity of your internal networks.

A recommended “fix” for the above problem would be not only to explicitly configure translation rules for ALL of the internal networks allowed access to the Internet but also to configure outbound access lists denying any private IP addresses exiting the outside interface.

A growing number of viewers, er… 13 at the last count, have complained to the Advertising Standards Authority because Cheryl Cole doesn’t mention the fact she uses hair extentions in her TV adverts for L’Oreal shampoo and conditioner.

So an advert for a beauty product is accused of being, shall we say, a little bit economical with the actuality.

Well, knock me down with a powder puff. Whatever next? Jedward came out of the womb with those quiffs?

I’m not a Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells – I’ve never complained about anything before. Bu

I’m not a Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells – I’ve never complained about anything before. But recently, after seeing the Cheryl Cole advertisement for L’Oréal Elvive Full Restore 5 shampoo and conditioner during one of X Factor’s commercial breaks, I decided to complain to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

I have two daughters, the youngest of whom is nine, and she wanted to buy Elvive shampoo because she wanted her hair to be like Cole’s. I said no, she couldn’t buy it, because Cole’s hair, as everyone knows, is hair extensions, which means she has either real hair or the kind of plastic thread they use to make fishing lines, sewn in. So my daughter said, “Well then, how does the shampoo make her hair better?” So I had to explain that advertisements don’t always tell the truth. At which point I decided to complain to the ASA.

We do have a responsibility to teach our kids that advertisements are 99% false. My older daughter said, “Oh Mum, stop making a fuss! Everyone knows that adverts lie.” But I’m not sure everyone does. I’m not sure tweens do. Every girl wants to look like Cheryl Cole; I want to look like Cheryl Cole! And this is advertising capitalising on Cole’s X Factor success, convincing people to buy a shampoo to try to get hair that you won’t get unless you are prepared to spend £1,000 on hair extensions.

In the advert she says, “My hair feels stronger, full of life, replenished with a healthy shine. It’s got its mojo back.” No, the extensions on your head have given your hair its mojo back. And then you look through the adverts in any women’s magazine and hair is false, the eyelashes are false, the teeth are painted on. You start to wonder if anything is real.

The ASA said it couldn’t uphold the complaint as the adverts have a disclaimer. But the disclaimer – “styled with some natural hair extensions” – is up for two seconds of a 30-second ad, in the tiniest print imaginable, and in the print version it’s 2mm high.

I have nothing against Cole at all. If I were her I would definitely take the money from a venal shampoo company to advertise its shampoo. But I do think that L’Oréal should look a bit harder at who it uses to promote its products, and the ASA should be a bit tougher. It is a wet body.
Advertising: it pays to read the small print

Eyelashes Blink and you’ll miss it, but the new Rimmel ads starring pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor include the disclaimer: “Filmed with lash inserts and enhanced in post production.” The company was in trouble with the ASA last year when similar adverts featuring Kate Moss omitted any disclaimer.

Phones The advert for Motorola Pebl shows phone-owners skimming their Pebls across a stretch of water. In case you were tempted, the ad boasts the following disclaimer: “Fictionalisation: Pebl phone is not water resistant.”

Drugs The website for US sleep aid Ambien shows a large rotating pill, upon which stand five people, all of whom propound the advantages of the drug. Lest you were confused, the site has two disclaimers printed beneath the giant tablet: “Not actual patients” and “Not actual pill size.”

Computer games “Not actual game footage” has become a relatively common disclaimer, after several computer games, among them Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, were criticised for using footage that was superior to the graphics in the actual game.

The Advertising Standards Authority has rejected 13 complaints about Cheryl Cole’s L’Oreal Elvive shampoo ad after consumers accused the ‘X Factor’ judge of misleading the public because she has hair extensions.

Cole’s L’Oreal TV ad, which launched on 9 October, features the Girls Aloud singer praising the Elvive Full Restore 5 shampoo and conditioner range.

She says: “My hair feels stronger, full of life, replenished with a healthy shine. It’s got its mojo back.”

Cole, who landed the contract to front the beauty brand in August this year, is known to use artificial hair extensions made from acrylic. Her hairdresser, Julien Guyonnet, told The Sunday Times that he last put extensions into her locks four weeks ago and before that, had given her fibre hair extensions in July.

The pop star’s extensions are noted during the 30-second spot when a message appears that says “styled with some natural extensions”, however it appears on screen for only two seconds.

Fans were annoyed that Cole does not mention the hair extensions herself.
Daisy Goodwin, a television producer and occasional Sunday Times columnists, was among those that complained to the ASA, claiming the ad was misleading.

The ASA ruled that the ad did not break any rules and in its explanation to Goodwin wrote: “A problem would only arise if the ad did not make clear that [Cole] is wearing these extensions.”

If the wedding ring drama wasn’t enough, now Cheryl’s in trouble over her L’Oreal shampoo adverts.

The twenty-six-year-old, who signed a £500,000 deal with the haircare brand in August this year, has been criticised by fans for wearing hair extensions in her adverts for L’Oreal Full Restore 5 shampoo and conditioner – which claims to replenish “weak, limp and lifeless hair”.

Thirteen people branded the X Factor judge’s ads “misleading” and complained to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), but their complaints were rejected.

The ASA said the disclaimer message featured in the TV and print ads – which admits Cheryl’s hair is “styled with some natural extensions” – was “clear and legible’.

It seems Cole’s bad hair day doesn’t stop there.

While L’Oreal admits the singer wears extensions that are “cared for in the same way as normal hair”, her hairdresser has waded in to the debate, telling The Times that she now uses acrylic artificial extensions rather than the “natural” human hair claimed in the ads.

A L’Oréal advert fronted by Cheryl Cole is at the centre of a row after viewers accused the X Factor judge of misleading them.

Cole, 26, appears in a television ad in which she sings the praises of L’Oréal Elvive Full Restore 5, a shampoo and conditioner range.

Thirteen viewers have complained to the Advertising Standards Authority about the commercial because Cole wears hair extensions.

The authority, however, rejected the claims as a message is shown during the advert, which says that Cole’s hair is “styled with some natural extensions”.

“A problem would only arise if the ad did not make clear that she is wearing these extensions. It is also worth noting that the hair extensions are made from natural hair and have been treated with the products being advertised,” Times Online quoted the watchdog as saying.

However, Cole’s hairdresser Julien Guyonnet has reportedly revealed that she uses artificial fibre extensions because the glue used for natural ones was damaging her hair.

He said: “She is very nice and down-to-earth. She didn’t tell me she was doing the adverts. She used to use human hair but the glue damaged her hair. Of course, she may have used human hair for a photoshoot depending on the hairdresser on the shoot and what company it was for.”

A L’Oréal spokesperson said she did not know whether Cole used artificial extensions, but added: “Cheryl has worn hair extensions for some time. They are part of her look and are cared for in the same way as normal hair.”

Meanwhile, Cole’s representative said: “L’Oréal are within their rights and the ads are not breaking any rules. We would never comment on what type of hair extensions Cheryl is using because these are quite personal questions.”

Cheryl Cole, the singer with the luscious locks, is facing a bad hair day. Fans are accusing the X F

Cheryl Cole, the singer with the luscious locks, is facing a bad hair day. Fans are accusing the X Factor judge of misleading them in a national advertising campaign for hair products.

Cole, 26, appears in a television ad in which she sings the praises of L’Oréal Elvive Full Restore 5, a shampoo and conditioner range. “My hair feels stronger, full of life, replenished with a healthy shine. It’s got its mojo back,” she says as she parades in a red dress.

It could prove nigh-on impossible for viewers to get the same result simply out of a bottle, however. Cole owes her look to hair extensions, which cost up to £1,000, to give her hair more volume and bounce.

During her TV commercial, a message flashes up, saying her hair is “styled with some natural extensions”, but it remains on screen for fewer than two seconds of its 30-second duration. In magazine advertisements, the hair extensions are mentioned in print 2mm high.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said it had rejected 13 complaints that the ads were misleading because the disclaimer about Cole’s hair extensions was “clear and legible”.

However, Cole’s hairdresser says she now regularly uses artificial hair made from acrylic rather than extensions made of “natural” hair, which is typically sold by Russian women for a few pounds.

As a member of the group Girls Aloud, Cole had a contract with Sunsilk, the shampoo range owned by Unilever. Up to two years ago she had human-hair extensions glued into her hair at the roots but reportedly worried about damage to her hair and scalp.

One of her predecessors as the face of L’Oréal, the actress Jennifer Aniston, has said her hair was almost ruined by extensions while she modelled the famous “Rachel” cut in the 1990s.

This year her hairdresser says Cole has tried using artificial-fibre hair instead. The 10in strands — a third of the weight of human hair — are extruded from plastic. Each strand is braided around four stems of natural hair close to the scalp and then sealed using the heated ends of a clamping gun.

Both natural and fibre extensions have to be replaced every three months as they grow away from the scalp.

Cole’s TV ads for L’Oréal started last month, promising to tackle weak, limp, lifeless, dull or straw-like hair, by making it feel stronger, weightless and silkier.

Among those who have complained that they are misleading is Daisy Goodwin, the television producer and occasional Sunday Times columnist.

Goodwin, 47, said last week: “My daughter, aged nine, has been saying, ‘Please can we buy the shampoo because I want to look like Cheryl Cole’. But her hair is not her own. The reason her hair looks fabulous is because of hair extensions. I didn’t even see the reference to them in the ad.”

She added: “Women are being taken for a ride. It is not the same as having your own hair. It’s bonkers.”

The ASA said it did not consider the commercial broke any rules. It wrote to Goodwin : “A problem would only arise if the ad did not make clear that she is wearing these extensions.

“It is also worth noting that the hair extensions are made from natural hair and have been treated with the products being advertised.”

It is far from clear that Cole’s extensions are natural, however. Julien Guyonnet, 33, Cole’s French-born hairdresser, said he had last put artificial-fibre extensions into her locks four weeks ago in Notting Hill, west London. He had also given her fibre hair extensions in July.

Guyonnet, who usually charges £750 for the three-hour procedure, said: “She is very nice and down-to-earth. She didn’t tell me she was doing the adverts. She used to use human hair but the glue damaged her hair.

“Of course, she may have used human hair for a photo shoot depending on the hairdresser on the shoot and what company it was for.”

Simon Forbes, owner of the Antenna salon in Kensington, central London who is credited with inventing extensions almost 30 years ago, said Cole’s hair could not be called natural. “It is either second-hand hair or artificial. Cheryl looks great because of her extensions and L’Oréal are bathing in that light.”

A spokeswoman for L’Oréal said she “did not know” whether Cole used human or artificial extensions. A company statement said: “Cheryl has worn hair extensions for some time. They are part of her look and are cared for in the same way as normal hair.”

A spokeswoman for Cole said: “L’Oréal are within their rights and the ads are not breaking any rules. We would never comment on what type of hair extensions Cheryl is using because these are quite personal questions.”

A poster on a cycle rickshaw showed an image of a woman in underwear. The text stated Steam & Sun Londons only 5***** Massage Parlour Why waste your money in a $trip club……..where you cant even Touch [sic].

A complainant challenged whether the ad was offensive and unsuitable for display where it could be seen by children.

Steam & Sun said the ad did not feature any images of women very scantily clad or in sexually provocative poses, which they believed was common in ads for lap dancing clubs. They explained that the text of the ad merely highlighted a fact of law: customers are unable to touch dancers in strip clubs. They said the ad appeared on a rickshaw that went around Central London on evening shifts.

Assessment Not upheld The ASA acknowledged that the image of a woman in underwear might seem distasteful to some consumers; however, we noted the image was not sexually explicit or unduly provocative. We also understood that some readers may find the reference to touch[ing] a woman in poor taste, but noted that the claim was clearly linked to a massage service and, in that context, considered it was unlikely to cause offence. We considered that, if children saw the poster, they were unlikely to understand any potential sexual connotations from the word touch. We concluded that the ad was therefore unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence or be seen to be socially irresponsible.

Numerous experiences with clients and students implementing Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) with IPS

Numerous experiences with clients and students implementing Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) with IPSec have shown me that some common misconceptions exist as to their operation and troubleshooting. We will examine three of these using the scenario below between an ASA running version 8.0 code and a Cisco Router running IOS version 12.2 or higher code.

Misconception #1: A Site-to-Site VPN created with the ASDM Wizard is Bidirectional

The commands below are a portion of what would be displayed if the “Preview Commands…” option were selected in the ASDM preferences after finishing the Site-to-Site wizard.

crypto ipsec transform-set ESP-3DES-SHA esp-3des esp-sha-hmac
crypto map outside_map 1 match address outside_1_cryptomap
crypto map outside_map 1 set pfs group2
crypto map outside_map 1 set peer 192.168.11.2
crypto map outside_map 1 set transform-set ESP-3DES-SHA
crypto map outside_map interface outside

Note the set pfs group2 statement above; this default deployment option with the wizard will result in the IKE Phase II proposal of Perfect Forward Secrecy using Diffie-Hellman Group #2. While the IOS Router will support this and agree to it (even though it wasn’t explicitly configured), the tunnel CANNOT be successfully initiated by the site owning that router! For this to happen, the router MUST be configured with the same statement for its Phase II policy in its crypto map.

Misconception #2: The IKE keepalive keeps the Site-to-Site tunnel up

Actually, the IKE keepalive merely insures that the remote peer is reachable. A little-known fact is that the Idle Timeout usually found in the Network (Client) Access for the IPSec client also impacts Site-to-Site tunnels being kept up. A screenshot is provided below showing where this is configured for the default group policy, DfltGrpPolicy.

Studies have shown that if this time interval is increased to be greater than 80% of the Phase II IPSec Security Association lifetime, the tunnel will stay up.

Misconception #3: Allowing IPSec ACL bypass is insecure – Default Wizard option

This appears as a checkbox in the wizard, or could be configured using the CLI command sysopt connection permit-vpn. Two very effective techniques can be used here, the mechanics of which will be discussed in future postings. The first of these would be to configure a VPN Group Filter (done under the Group Policy settings), a feature which applies for both Site-to-Site or Remote Access VPNs. A second effective technique, applicable for both IPSec and SSL VPN Client access, would be to use downloadable access-control lists with RADIUS.

Vill du investera i drivkraft?

W Polsce ten pomysł rozpowszechnia m.in. prof. Maria Majewska.

Wydaje mi się jednak wysoce nieprawdopodobnym, by np. 12-18 milionów ofiar śmiertelnych w Indiach (Johnson i Mueller 2002) miało coś wspólnego z intensywnym leczeniem aspiryną.

Na koniec — jedna z wielu relacji świadków epidemii hiszpanki, “Personal account by Rear Admiral William B. Caperton of the 1918 Influenza on Armored Cruiser No. 4, USS Pittsburgh, at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.”.

And then there came upon us the most terrifying of experiences. On the fourth of October we had noted that the so called Spanish influenza, which had passed thru Europe had made its appearance in Brazil. (…) When the HMS New Castle arrived in Rio from Bahia on the 6th, she had sixty cases on board, all of a benign type. (…) The following day 33 cases in the flagship, with the numbers ashore increasing alarmingly. By the 9th, 92 cases had made their appearance on board and hundreds ashore were dying without medical attendance. Hospitals were crowded and coffins almost ceased to exist.
(…)
Conditions in the cemetery beggared description. Eight hundred bodies in all states of decomposition, and lying about in the cemetery, were awaiting burial. Thousands of buzzards swarmed overhead. In the city itself there were no longer medicines, or wood for coffins and very little food. Rich and poor alike were stricken.

A dlaczego podaję linka do CDC?

a. The first poster stated TOO MUCH TANGO Made me suck a Bull’s UDDER.

b. The second poster stated Too much TANGO MAKES YOUR GUFFS ‘Smell Like Oranges’ Seriously, I just did one.

c. The third poster stated TOO MUCH TANGO MADE ME SHAVE MY NAN. INNIT.

The ASA received 82 complaints.

1. Most of the complainants thought ad (a) was offensive, irresponsible and unsuitable for public display, because they believed it suggested oral sex with a bull.

2. Fewer complainants thought the use of the word guffs in ad (b) was offensive and the ad was irresponsible and unsuitable for public display.

3. Two complainants, one of whom said the ad implied the shaving of one’s vaginal hair, thought ad (c) was offensive, irresponsible and unsuitable for public display.

ASA Assessment

1. Not upheld The ASA considered that most viewers of the poster, including children, would be aware that bulls did not have udders. We considered that some people might therefore interpret the statement suck a bull’s udder in a sexual way; however, very young children and other innocent viewers would not. Despite the possible sexual implications to some, we considered that the ad presented an outlandish and ridiculous scenario as opposed to an explicit reference to bestiality, and any perversity was outweighed by the absurdity of the notion. We also considered that the bizarre and provocative humour of the ad was likely to appeal to some. Although the poster was likely to be seen as distasteful to some viewers, we concluded that it was unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence or be seen as irresponsible, and that it was not unsuitable for public display.

2. Not upheld We considered that the phrase makes your guffs smell like oranges would be interpreted as a reference to breaking wind and was therefore likely to be seen as vulgar by some, but as humorous by others. Although unedifying, we concluded that the poster was unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence or be seen as irresponsible, and that it was not unsuitable for public display.

3. Not upheld We considered that the ad was likely to be seen as positing the idea that a side effect of drinking Tango was the urge to shave a hairy, elderly relative. Because that idea was clearly ridiculous, and because we thought the complainant’s interpretation of the ad was unlikely to be shared by others, we concluded that the poster was unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence or be seen as irresponsible, and that it was not unsuitable for public display.
