ASHLEY DUPRE: FROM PROSTITUTE TO NEW YORK POST ADVICE COLUMNIST

It only fair. The New York Post made a lot of money off  prostitute Ashley Dupree. Now, they’ve actually given her a job.

After being a Post cover girl for being revealed as former New York governor Eliot Spitzer’s top hooker, Dupre has found herself virtually unemployable. She’s now too old and used up for Charlie Sheen and Girls Gone Wild. She’s too ugly for Penthouse. And, after all the filthy (*seriously disgusting-check out this post) things she did for money, NO business in New York, New Jersey or Pennsylvania will let her in the building, much less hire her.

Not a problem. The Post is actually giving Dupre her own column in the paper. She’s been hired as an advice columnist. Since the last reported paying job Dupre had was having men pay her to eat her used, dirty tampons, working for the New York Post is only slightly more demeaning. The promotional video for the Post (below) touts Dupre as the perfect person to give advice to young women in New York. Beautiful, since she’s a former (?) prostitute and drug addict.

The Post’s rival NewYork Daily News is having a field day over Dupre’s hiring. One of their columnists said Dupre’s advice on sex is about “as useless as Bernie Madoff money tips.”

Because no scandal is complete without another mind-numbing flashback to the Eliot Spitzer scandal, America’s favorite hooker Ashley Alexandra Dupre got drunk one night and texted a bunch of incoherent ramblings to the New York Post. Of course, since this is the stuff of dreams over at the Post, they’ve published a bunch of them as an opinion-editorial on the state of marriage in America. Her point is infinitely more unique, thoughtful, and poignant than anything Bono has ever written for the New York Times (don’t click that link if you cherish your brain cells).

I just want to point out that part of the Post’s URL is “ashley_fires_ho_in_one”. And that is the most interesting thing to have come out of Tiger Woods being beaten with his own golf clubs.

Without commenting on all of these women, Lucy Mercer, Kay Summersby and Donna Rice always struck me as women of the most notable quality and respectability so any generalizations is probably unfair?

 Eliot Spitzer wants back in. He wants back in baaaaaad.

The ex governor of New York is slowly creeping back into public life. He denies it up and down but all you have to do is watch his interview on The Rachel Maddow’s show earlier this week and you can see the eagerness all over his face.

He’s done several interviews in the past few weeks from cable news to news blogs he’s clearly testing the waters of public opinion to see if we’ve forgiven him for his indiscretion and private failings and if we’re willing to listen to him again.

Spitzer knows we’re angry as hell, at corporations, banks and Wall Street and as one of only a handful of men to have taken them on successfully  his opinion and insight on financial regulation and averting future financial diasasters is invaluable.

The financial crisis has created an opening for Spitzer and at first glance it appears that there will be no more wondering in the political wilderness for the disgraced attorney but before Spitzer leaps head first back into the public’s arms he should make sure that we are indeed willing to give him a second chance.

In a recent poll New Yorkers said they prefer Eliot Spitzer to current Governor David Pattersen but that doesn’t mean they want him back as Governor!  What this really says is that Patterson is doing a really, really bad job!

At best Spitzer’s record as governor receives a question mark because who knows what could’ve been? A 14 month term is not enough time to render judgment.

However, should Eliot Spitzer decide to seek public office again he has to accept that his wife and his daughters will be reliving his disgrace and humiliation alongside him. 

He has to accept that no question will be out of bounds and that  “No comment,” or “I’m not answering that,” will not be tolerated. Reporters and journalists will demand access to him at all times and full disclosure on every issue for obvious reasons. And on the campaign trail the mudslinging would be at unprecedented levels and the public probably will have no sympathy. 

The road back to the top will be extremely, extremely difficult but it can be done indeed it has been done. And if the public has forgiven him and more importantly wants him back Spitzer is well on his way back to the top of New York politics.

I don’t know if I can ever separate his private shortcomings from his well-intentioned, results driven crusades on behalf of the public interest and the fact that he is so talented and does brings so much to the public square does cause me to stop and think twice.

But Spitzer prosecuted men who were Johns and he even sought and signed stiff laws against the sex trade while spending over $80 000 on prostitutes. 

In my book that makes him a hypocrite. Listen to him yes, vote for him probably not.

Ashley Dupré caused quite a 

stir at New York Fashion Week. 

Apparently Ashley was an unwanted 

guest that upset the designer to see 

her sitting in the front row of his show. 

Surely you guys remember Ashley Dupre 

from the scandal involving Eliot Spitzer 

with the call girl “Kristen” 

aka Ashley Dupre.

squashed his career as governor.

Well now Ashley is causing a 

designer to be very unhappy at 

New York Fashion Week.

Ashley Dupre reportedly went to 

designer Yigal Azrouel’s fashion 

show last Friday and sat in 

the front row, 

causing the designer to 

freak out and be upset.

Yigal Arouel said she was not 

invited and even fired his publicist 

for allowing her to be there 

in the front row.

But coinidence or just 

a scheme here… 

Yigal and Ashley happen to 

have the same publicist. 

Hmmm…

So now Ashley, 23, 

is in the spotlight after the incident 

and guess what?

The title of Ashley’s book is unknown, but she was seen carrying “The Secret Currency of Love: The Unabashed Truth About Women, Money, and Relationships”, which is totally a title we think she’d love to steal. The thing is, we don’t care that Ashley’s famous in that Monica-Lewinsky-oops-I-boned-a-politician kind of way. We do care that she gets the privilege of writing her own book.

Now Democrats have reclaimed the White House and both parties of Congress, so of course they’re obliged to pull double duty in both sexual and political scandals. Let’s see, they’ve got the sex scandals pretty well covered: who can forget such luminaries as Eliot Spitzer, Patron Saint of Hookers; Tim Mahoney, the proud Florida Democrat with multiple mistresses who replaced the Republican with the “drinking problem”; the lizard-tongued humanoid adulterer John Edwards; and last but not least, America’s greatest mayor and sexiest texter, Kwame Kilpatrick.

A recent flood of news about Democrats doing improper, non-sexual stuff for favors means they’ve got the political side of scandals covered, too. Let’s review:

• Senate seat salesman Rod Blagojevich
• Congressman Charlie Rangel, whom the New York Times is constantly catching in the middle of one seedy-looking situation or another
• Secretary-of-State nominee Hillary Clinton, who passed legislation to help a developer shortly before her husband accepted that developer’s $100,000 donation to his presidential library

And the latest: the portly and affable Bill Richardson, who couldn’t be Secretary of State because he would have been murdered, personally, by the Clintons, so instead he settled for Commerce Secretary before he got roped into a grand jury investigation. Apparently some brilliant financial company that advised Jefferson County, Alabama into near-bankruptcy was also hired to work its magic on the state of New Mexico after it donated 100 grand to various political action committees formed by Bill Richardson.

So now Richardson has said to Barack Obama, “Pls do not consider me for Commerce, as I have this little grand jury problem to deal with.” This is really too bad, because Bill Richardson spoke Spanish! Also he was very smart, and experienced in talking with nasty dictators. Now Obama will have to find some other sucker to help him revive the economy and control the weather.

In domestic politics, my first prediction is one that pains me to make, but I’ll make it anyway.

The Democratic Party has had a recent run of corruption and sex scandals. Mathematicians say that there are no such things as streaks and that the last event has nothing to do with the next. The only people who disagree are crapshooters and political operatives. Since I am both, I firmly believe that there are streaks and that political scandals happen in clusters.

The Republican Party had its fair share of scandal and charges of deeply imbedded corruption preceding the 2006 election and leading up to the 2008 elections.

It doesn’t hurt to point out that these types of things are also more likely to harm the party in the majority — Republicans had more elected politicians (315 Republican officeholders in House, Senate, and state governorships) leading up to 2006.

With two big Democratic elections in a row, Democrats now hold a larger majority — 340 U.S. representatives, senators and governors. Simple math and history point to the fact that the more elected officials a party has in office, the more likely its politicians will get caught up in some sort of scandal.

The current streak, however removed from President-elect Barack Obama, doesn’t bode well for Democrats in 2009…

UPDATE: I find myself anonymously accused in the comments of a “sexist and offensive” attitude, because my “cavalier comments” are a “thin disguise for admiration for Spitzer’s sexual prowess,” an endorsement of the “exploitation of young, beautiful women in the sex trade,” etc.

Lighten up, Anonymous. Nearly all my comments are “cavalier,” and the destruction of the crusading anti-capitalist Spitzer in a hooker scandal was one of the most richly ironic political stories of the year. He hates capitalism — those evil, greedy, big corporations! – yet he’s paying thousands per night to shag a high-priced call girl?

I certainly don’t “admire” Spitzer for his “prowess.” Paying for the companionship of a prostitute is the opposite of “prowess.” But at least, as I said, he got his money’s worth. If a politician is going to destroy his career with a sex scandal, the means of his destruction ought to be something extravagant and glamorous, rather than McGreevey’s sordid truck-stop assignations or Tim Mahoney’s tepid affair with a middle-aged Hill staffer. Wilbur Mills and “the Argentine Firecracker” splashing around the Tidal Basin — that’s what I call a sex scandal.

I just feel sad for Dupree; as sad as I felt for Monica Lewinsky. Both were exploited by powerful men and learned a painful lesson about bad choices and narcissistic men.

Dupre was engaged in a fee-for-service transaction. Who was exploiting whom? She goes on TV with Diane Sawyer and does the poor-victim routine, and everybody’s supposed to feel sorry for her. Not me. Let’s call a money-grubbing whore what she is, OK? The whore and her john are equally contemptible, and if I express my contempt through sarcastic humor, well, that’s pretty much how I express everything.

Finally, as to Miss Lewinsky: She was a spoiled-rotten rich girl who grew up in Bel Air, Calif. I try to make a point of never feeling sorry for people like that — given every advantage and every opportunity in life, petted and pampered and sheltered from harm, and ultimately failing because they lack any strength of character. Oh, I know the type well: Selfish, weak, superficial and filled with self-pity. What act of charity or generosity did Monica Lewinsky ever do that would recommend her as worthy of 1/10th of what was lavished on her? And now, on top of everything else, we are supposed to pity her? It seems to me she’s had entirely too much of that.
