The Olsen twins are a stylish duo, and their fashion line – The Row – keeps getting more mundane every collection. The Row never strays from its trademark palette, but what’s more important is the minimalist construction of the garments. The line isn’t particularly safe, it’s essential.

On fashion trends: Whitney says although she doesn’t pride herself on following trends, she doesn’t knock people down who do because you should wear what you feel comfortable in.

On her style stars: Whitney names Ashley Olsen, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Kiera Knightley.

Can someone explain why the duckface twins  have made millions and millions of dollars through fashion design?  They always look a complete mess!

This picture is a perfect example of how they never wear the clothes – the clothes wear them.  They swamp their teeny tiny frames with layer upon layer, wear shoes that are too big for them and what is up with those bags?  They look like the sort of thing you see dads carrying on their daily commute to the city.

I don’t mind Ashley (left) so much but Mary-Kate is a repeat fashion offender in my book and always looks like she needs to scrub her face and start again with the makeup.  That lipstick isn’t doing much for her.  And I won’t even mention the hat.

Who would seriously take style tips from these two?

Yesterday, Mary Kate Olsen was spotted by paps getting iced coffee with her boyfriend, Nate Lowman, in NYC… Later that night she attended the MoMA Benefit for Tim Burton (I cannot wait to check out his exhibition starting November 22nd)!

MK carried her Hermes Birkin all day, because let’s face it… If I owned a Birkin I would literally sleep with it. She kept her black hat and traded natural lips for a vampy red. She subbed her oversized black coat for a glam leopard topper. What do you think of MK’s day-to-night transition?

According to Just Jared, a few celebs came out yesterday to celebrate the life and legacy of Tim Burton at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Yes, I am painfully aware of how overly grungy and gothic Mary Kate & Ashley are, but ironically that’s the only reason why I like them so.

Johnny Depp was  in attendance to honor Tim Burton (producer/director).

Being away from home really takes away the luxury of going to the hairdressers.  All you people with your regular haircuts and familiar hairstylists, I envy you. My bangs seem to be growing undesirably quick whereas, my hair length is taking forever to grow out. So frustrating. It was such a mistake to have chopped it off but I blame it all on my frequent “bored spells” with my hair styles. (ouh, it rhymes) With annoying hair pieces obstructing my vision, I knew something had to be done. I gathered the hair shears, plastic bag, kneeled in front of the mirror and snipped my bangs away. I tried to create side-swept bangs ala Nicole Richie but it ended up a little choppier than I envisioned. Oh no…

After that was done, I went online to search for images of blunt side-swept bangs that resembled mine.

And, I stumbled upon one of the Olsen twin…

Yeah, it kinda looks like that. I don’t know why but it gives me a sense of relief to see a similar cut on someone else, done by a professional hairstylist. Guess it assures me that I did not totally mess my hair up with my amateur skills. I can’t wait to get a serious wash, cut and blowdry from a professional again.

I recently stumbled upon this clip of the “Future of Women’s Fashion” event that I, along with other fashionistas, attended.

Once again, Ashley Olsen is fabulous with her red suede heels. Who cares if they’re probably uncomfortable – the shoes are deliciously gorge.

I am a huge MK&A fan, and I am deeply madly in love with the hair and makeup styling of these images for Influence.  Love the nude lips, thick eyeliner, pale skin, and dear in the headlights gazes.  Perfection.

We’re a little late to the party on this one, but we think it’s worth noting. Lucky magazine is one of several magazines — including Allure, Glamour and Self — that has been partnering with HSN.

HSN and Lucky did a “Designer Capsule Collection” that got a three-page spread in the magazine’s November issue. The apparel, jewelry and handbag designers featured all had items being sold on HSN.

That group included Shoshanna Gruss, Rebecca Taylor, Tracy Reese, Gerard Yosca, Abbe Held, Rebecca Minkoff and Helen Ficalora.

Why are fashion magazines partnering with HSN? Circulation and ad pages are down, leaving monthlies struggling. As part of its deals, HSN is selling inexpensive standalone subscriptions to the magazines, or packaging them as part of other product purchases. It’s a way for the magazines to add subscribers.

Speaking of parties, it looks like QVC left us off the guest list for the star-studded soiree in Manhattan for designer Isaac Mizrahi’s new collection for QVC. According to the New York Post’s Page Six Sunday, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, Mary-Louise Parker, Mira Sorvino and Ann Heche were at the shindig.

So even though yesterday basically consisted of leftovers, television, and intermittent attempts at napping (i.e., indoor activities), I’m fairly confident that the weather was gloriously beautiful. The sky appeared to be the bluest of blue, and through an open window, only gentle breezes.

In other words, now’s the perfect weather for laying up without looking bogged down. Faux fur (or, if you’ve got the funds, vrai fur) is one way to get that job done splendidly.

Personally, I can’t bring myself to spend more than $50 on something that’s not the real thing. Luckily, faux fur feels real enough and if you ever do happen to find yourself doused in red paint, you’ll only be out $50 and — added bonus — you’ve got an interesting story to tell. Win-win. (Warning: Some of the vests featured here cost more than $50.)

Aside from the fact that her character can be kind of heinous, Dianna Agron does make me gleeful, especially when she sings.

I just found out yesterday that Amerie is half Korean, which makes her just that much hotter in my book. Oh, and she drinks Fiji water — the drink of champions, some might say. (Ok, no one says that — just an Oasis reference.)

Gypsy+Jetset=Gypset.  Do you love it?  Sadly, I did not coin the term.  This afternoon, as I perused the lovely shelves of curated books at Type (883 Queen St. West), I came upon my favourite style of dress which is Bohemian Luxe Chic.  This worldly style is heavily influenced by nomadic gypsies who have a layered, ethnic look fusing one culture to another as they caravan from town to town, country to country. 

The difference is that Gypset combines the opulant lifestyle of rockstars, musicians, artists and bon vivants who travel the world absorbing the multitude of styles and integrating luxury details.  It’s a ratatouille of batiks, fringe, suede, embroidery with decadent sequins and fur.  Sounds delicious, non?

MK and Ashley Olsen embody this style as does Nicole Richie post-Simple Life with their braided hair, flowy chiffon dresses matched with fur vests and suede boots.  How does one so effortlessly achieve this look?  Here are some pointers on picking up a few items whilst on vacation to re-create this signature style:

• Dazzle Me With Sequins – OMG, I die for sequin tunics, especially the bright hued gauzy ones with a deep-V and embellishment around the collar.  While in Maui, I picked up a white one with a colourful graphic floral and coins accenting the collar and sewn around the sleeves. 
• Pleasantly Peasant - These simple bohemian tops often pop with colourful floral embroideries.  Details such as crochet, lace trims and mini tassles also add a home made effect. 
• Animal Instincts - This could mean a sherpa vest, a Mongolian hat or fur lining on a Chinoiserie jacket.   
• Travelling Influences – This means picking up prints which are indigenous to a faraway place – Indonesian batik, Kashmiri pashminas or Egyptian moneybelts.  Layering the textures and ethnic designs enhance the visual interest of the outfit.  
• Just Add Rock n’ Roll – The finishing touch which gives the Gypset flare is the rock n’ roll edge.  Picture yourself thrashing around a stage with your long suede vest, leather pants and lace up booties.  Instead of rolling on a tour bus, pack up your entourage, throw your clothes into your Louis Vuitton luggage and hit the road on your horse and buggy.
