I first met Katie Chu this past summer while she and I were both interning at The Richards Group in Dallas. I’ll be honest, at first I kinda got this vibe from her that we weren’t going to be the best of friends (perhaps because she was PR and I was Advertising)… but I couldn’t have misjudged anyone more! Katie Chu is without a doubt one of the sweetest girls ever. When I first found out that she sang, I figured, “Uh huh, just another one of those girls who can ’sing’.” but again… I couldn’t have been more wrong. The first time I went to her Myspace and sampled her music, I believe my jaw dropped. She couldn’t just sing, but she was really good! So of course, I HAD to have her on the blog. It took some time for me to actually get it done, and then when I finally did I wasn’t going to post it until I got some pictures from Katie, but sweet girl she’s just super busy, so I raided pictures I had access to and we’ll just have to call it good . On to the interview!

How did you get into music?
“Well, I did musical theater growing up, started writing when I was 14. ’Not Blond Yet‘ was one of my first songs to ever perform.” Chu said the song was inspired a lot by the “plastics” of her high school and dealth with making a statement of having her own identity among a sea of blondes. Not long after that, her mother set her up with a producer in Dallas and she just went from there. She wrote her music by ear and then would sing it to her producer, ”I would sing and he would write the instrumentals. It worked out really well that way.”

Katie finds herself a young woman living two lives seperated by about 1,500 miles, splitting her time between Dallas and Los Angeles. Chu has been living the majority of her time for about four years now. She attends USC and says that she loves it so much in L.A., likening it to “a giant playground.” Chu has taken a bit of a break recently from music, juggling school and traveling between her two homes, but said, “I just started writing again, I did some performances at Key Club and Republics in Hollywood.”

Are you a one woman act, or do you have a band?
“I have a guitar accompaniment usually. I should say I’m working on some new stuff with two guitar guys right now. I’m working with this one guy who goes to USC with me, Burke Mohan, he has some original tunes of his own. A couple weeks ago a production company put a few of my songs into their library.” That library may result in placement for Chu’s music in independent films and reality TV shows and such. “It’s a good way to go if you aren’t with a label.” Chu said.

Where do you tend to play?
“Well, like I mentioned, I’ve played The Key Club which is solely music, more of a lounge. But there is also there’s also The Roxy which is another great venue. And then of course Republics also.”

How would you describe your music?
“I always tell people that it’s pop rock. A mix with piano ballads. Think a cross between Fiona Apple and Ashley Simpson.”

Who are your major inspirations?
“I listen to all genre’s. I love country, rock, I’m a huge fan of Greg Laswell. I’m a lyric nut! It’s the first thing I notice and I think his lyrics are brilliant. When you hear his songs, it takes you to his own story and his place. I think with a lot of lyrics it takes you to your own story.”

You are quite a trendy girl, how would you define your style, and similarly, what are your inspirations for fashion?
“Well I actually really love reading your fashion blog! To describe my look I would say it’s classy mixed with a little edge, but I really like to dress sexy, especially when I go out. I like to show a little skin, but not too risky. Here in LA it’s normally just skanky so I like to bring a little class. I’m also all about the shoes, my mom calls me Katie Shoe. I’m also really in love right now with Ashley Simpson, even though she’s way more punk… I don’t know, I really range some days so I always keep it interesting! I also really love Phillip Lim and I actually like how Jessica Simpson used to dress. After all, they’re from Texas. Kim Kardashian is also another favorite who I think has really great style.”

I’m thinking about moving to NYC next year and maybe just starting by being a waitress or whatever and just trying out for musicals, but definitely something with music.” This girl is definitely going places, and I feel lucky to call her a friend, so keep a look-out!

När jag skulle skriva det här inlägget om Jessica och Ashley Simpson så kunde jag inte sluta nynna på låten till serien “Sister Sister” av någon mystisk anledning. Något som gjorde det ännu jobbigare var att jag inte alls kunde minnas att jag någonsin sett en serie som heter “Sister Sister”, så jag var tvungen att youtubea och hittade intron till serien, här. Efter att ha kollat på första intron och halva andra så förstod jag att jag måste skaffa ett liv, och att det måste ha varit sjukt enkelt att starta en serie under 90-talet med tanke på vilken skit som gick på tv då. Man skulle ha kunnat starta en serie om en hemlös gubbe som hittar en magisk talande pommes frites i en papperskorg och reser med den ut på äventyr världen runt, och serien hade hållit i minst fem säsonger och gjort en rik tills man bränt alla pengar på Nintendoprodukter.

Nyheten skulle vara att Ashley försvarar Jessica från alla som säger att hon är tjock, men alla som säger det har ju rätt, så vem fan bryr sig? Ps, bilden ovan är innan Jessica fick VIP-kort på KFC.

I know what you’re thinking… when the hell is Legend of the Seeker coming back? Isn’t it fall? Shouldn’t we be watching Richard and Kahlan getting all tense around each other as they try to rid the world of evil?

At least that’s the date the first episode of Season 2 is set to air, but if you just can’t wait 3 more friggin weeks, because it surly is a long time, The Complete First Season is available on DVD.

If you don’t want to buy it from Amazon.com, I’m sure you can pick it up at your local Target or Best Buy. And THEN, you can watch it ever so slowly as we count down the days to Season 2…

The much anticipated, possibly hit show will NOT be returning as previously planned. Even after filming 6 whole episodes, NBC decided to pull the show.

Word on the street is that even though the rating were “iffy” last season, NBC had decided to take a chance on the show, but after viewing said 6 episodes they decided it was just TOO “raw and gritty” for us we folk.

Personally, I think it has more to do with the fact NBC allowed Jay “I’m too annoying to retire” Leno fill the cop drama’s time slot.

Did you ever wonder what it looked like to sell your soul to the devil? Just go watch the Leno show – it’s like a train wreck. And then when you’re done, go watch Conan on Late Night so you can see what comedy really looks like.

Grant Wilson announced on Twitter yesterday that he and his co-star Jason Hawes, will not be doing the Live Halloween special this year.

Yes, you will see your two favorite “what the frag” Ghost Hunters, but their segments will be pre-taped. This year they will be spending the holiday with their families.

I say go you! Halloween with kids is SO MUCH FUN! Yes, we will miss you, but it’s not like you’re leaving us forever now is it?

I’ve never seen this show, nor do I want to – mostly this is just me ripping on the CW.

Seems “The Beautiful Life” (or TBL, cuz things are better when we abbreviate) will not be making it. The shows been on for only one hot second and it seems that the CW is pulling it.

Some say it’s due to Mischa Barton – you know – because personal chaos hurts shows… I think it’s probably because the CW has the management skill of a 14 year old at McD.

Yes, I’m still bitter about the canceling of the late, great show – Reaper.

But hey! The now have every teenage soap know to man – and all of them complete crap. Hm… wonder how those 30 year old vampires on Vamp Diaries are doing? Polanski?

I’d say surprise, but really?

I think the only member of the female cast that can act is Stephanie Jacobsen. I mean, Ashley Simpson? Katie Cassidy? <- Let’s just say Harper’s Island wasn’t gonna get you an Emmy and this will probably get you a razzie!

But then again, I didn’t even watch the original version of this show, so why would I watch a mediocre remake? (Plus Jacoben was on one of the best shows ever – Terminator:TSCC, which was canceled, but hey they left us with Dollhouse!)

Even though pretty much every actor that I came from a show I loves is now on this show (Summer Glau – Firefly, Terminator: TSCC, Jamie Bamber – BSG, L&O:UK) the ratings STILL STINK!

Yes. I still think that FOX was scared seeing that the late great Firefly is STILL a hit, and since the cancelled that show, they had better hold on to whatever Joss Whedon was handing them… to bad this time it really not good at all. It’s actually SO BAD that FOX isn’t even airing it during November sweeps. Yup. Ouch.

As for ABC, it seems that they are already planning on canceling Hank, The Forgotten, Castle and Eastwick.

Hank was Kelsey Grammer’s new show. I know nothing about this show, I didn’t even know it existed until I saw it on the “Cancelled” list for ABC. That probably isn’t a good sign for them… and when I searched it – nada…

The Forgotten was Christian Slater’s attempt at a new show. Evidently he’s afraid he’ll be “forgotten” sadly, he won’t, for he will be remember as that guy that kept doing really crappy shows later in his life.

Castle… this just make me sad – I love Nathan Fillion. Last year they kept going back and forth between canceling and keeping this show, so maybe they’ll change their mind.

Eastwick – cuz it’s not 1987 and your not Cher, Susan Sarandon or Michelle Pfeiffer. It just hit me, my husband must have LOVE this moving as a kid. His two crushes… Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer… ANYWAY – why are we trying to make television shows out of movies that aired over 20 years ago? What the hell – there have to be at least 50,000 writers in L.A. proper – just look harder.

For CBS their two that will most likely be out of here by May are Three Rivers and Cold Case.

Three Rivers – I don’t know what this show is about. Someone wanting to save someone because if a television show doesn’t have high moral content then it might just be fun?

Cold Case – I’ll believe it when I see it. They’ve been saying for years this show would be cancelled, but it just never went away… maybe now it will. Maybe we’re entering a new era that is about more things than cops… oh wait, we are – welcome back medical drama…

I actually think the age of the sitcom is on its way back in – just look at NBC’s Thursday lineup with 30 Rock, The Office, Community and Parks and Rec – and then let’s at to it that the head of Law & Order, Trauma and Mercy are probably out.

Law & Order - how can you be surprised by this? It’s been on the air since I was in high school – and I haven’t been in high school for a long while now. Plus, this show just became redundant. How could it not be? Sorry L&O, I used to love you – but that was like circa 1999.

Trauma – My problem with this show is I hear the name and I think of Emergency, yes, that Randolph Mantooth drama from back in the 70’s. And then I saw the commercials – really? Are you serious? If you want to make something that over dramatic make a medical drama about a unit in the middle east – WAIT! Just remake M.A.S.H.

Why must everything be in slow motion? Michael Bay does TV.

Mercy – because we’ve grown tired about hearing how sad rich doctors are so now we get to hear about caring nurses… (Hawthorne?)

And for FOX!! ‘Til Death, Brothers and Dollhouse…

‘Til Death, I was surprised it made it this far, but hey – this isn’t my kinda show. But still, I’m a fan of Brad Garrett so I always wished them the best.

Brothers – I know nothing about this show so I can’t even make a snarky comment… but it looks as though it’s getting the boot.

And we already covered Dollhouse. (This week on Dollhouse, FOX regrets canceling Terminator: TSSC and keeping this steamy mess of…)

I’d tell you about the CW but mostly I don’t like them – yes – Reaper. The one good show they had.

Oh and I want to give a shout out to Modern Family! If you haven’t seen this one yet, you should totally check it out. It’s very funny.

Now – on to real life, whatever that is…

As an actress myself, there are many times when i’m looking at magazines or television programs and i say to myself….”she’s so beautiful…I wish i looked that way…”

Since I was 14, I remember for the first time looking in the mirror and thinking to myself  ”When i get enough money i’m definitely getting a nose job.”  I remembered telling my mother who said to me, “No. You’re going to lose your character and what makes you Sarah.  You have such a cute nose, please don’t change it…you don’t need to.”  I remember telling my boyfriend how i wanted a nose job which he promptly replied, “No! You don’t need a nose job.  You’re beautiful and if you get one you won’t be Sarah anymore….*followed by him kissing me on my button nose*.  I “listen” to both of them, but sometimes get confused and a little angry when I see my boyfriend staring at a nearly perfect woman in a magazine(obviously having had surgery), or my mother commenting on how beautiful an actress on the movie screen is(obviously having had surgery as well)…etc.  We all do it.  We all gawk at gorgeous people not realizing all the surgeries they’ve had to make them look that way. 

Plastic surgery and better-ing my looks has always plagued me and I won’t deny the fact that i do think about it still because in this society and the industry i am in, it’s constantly being shoved in my face to do it.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think its a BAD thing to do….but i just question what is the reason behind getting a procedure to “improve” yourself?  I’ve always THOUGHT i had great self-esteem, i mean i’m not hideous or anything.  And my parents raised me in a great way to where my self esteem was always on a high.  So why do i still have that little feeling inside questioning my looks?

I guess the problem begins when it becomes the false solution to a false problem.

I guess parenting does change oneself. Look how cute Pete looks with his son and wife, Ashley Simpson!

Everyone made, & still makes, such a big friggin’ deal about Michael Jackson’s plastic surgery-in particular, his nose jobs.  Look, I’m not saying that I thought they looked great, but it was his money & therefore his decision alone.

Furthermore, I have yet to hear anyone bitch about the rhinoplasty Michelle Pfeiffer, Jackie Stallone, Catherine Bell, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tori “A Parrot Bit My Nose” Spelling, Heidi Montag, Whitney Houston, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins (TLC), Toni Braxton, Meghan Fox, LATOYA JACKSON, 99.9999999999999999999% of the girls in my alma mater’s chapter of Sigma Delta Tau & countless others underwent (plus Jennifer Anistion & others who feel the need to publicly claim they had deviated septums, blah blah blahhh).  I’m not counting Ashley Simpson’s job because it’s absolutely flawless. And if ya ask me, Catwoman’s nose sure is Michael Jackson-y.  Get over it folks, good grief.
