I’ve been more depressed and lost weight since the clocks went back. The shorter days and sombre ambience effect me, as they do everybody else. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a recognised condition and another factor to add, albeit temporarily, to my portfolio of awareness.

ASPIRE has been designed to support those of us with addictive behaviours, and we soon realised how many other unwanted thoughts and behaviours we shared. I guess another label that might be appropriate for many of us is dual-diagnostic, or even, poly-diagnostic. And perhaps that doesn’t help at all!

Each of us is experiencing the seasonal change differently and I seem to be effected the most. Some people actually enjoy life in remote, wintery climates but I was always obsessed by traveling South to warmer climes. We are all different and we have so much in common.

My physical/mental health is my primary value right now. So I looked around for ways to help myself. The more strings to my bow the better. My GP wouldn’t prescribe me one and could only offer the usual advice and anti-depressants. As I believe the less different chemicals floating around in my brain the better I looked less conventional techniques. I checked out all the different light boxes available here, and then someone else in the group offered me one they had tried last year, without success. As well as the lightbox I also bought a few fitness products (such as Creatine) to help me gain weight, boost my nutrition levels and feed my brain.

Recognising the importance of self-maintainence may appear obvious to some, bit for those of us more familiar with abusing ourselves, this is a big step. A year ago I would have bought a bag whenever I felt down(or up!) moving a step closer to the pit of utter despair and pain I finally felt.

Il problema riguarda la temperatura, ma non riesco a capire da dove possa essersi originato (anche perchè devo dire che gli ingegneri alla Acer hanno fatto un gran bel lavoro di merda: per pulire la ventola o sotituire il disco devi smontare l’intero computer e la cosa è di una rottura di zebedei marzulliana che non vi dico).

Se volete, potete avanzare i vostri suggerimenti.

P.S: qualcuno sa per caso dove si trovano i sensori della temperatura?

Today I finally understood why a lot of the attendees were focused on getting their “swag” from this conference. At first I thought they all had been watching too many Soulja Boy videos. I was so wrong. today Microsoft handed out FREE TABLET LAPTOPS! Yes, you heard me! Ok…ok…it was only a mini one but still! Cool swag right! I have been singing Soulja Boy all day….I get my Swaaaag Onnnn!!

Anyway let me calm down. We got the Aspire 1420P loaded with Windows 7 and Office 2010. I was hoping they would have included Visual Studio but I’m not complaining. Now I can install Visual Studio, and play around with the new Touch features. Here are some photos from the conference:

The conference theme continues to be Windows Azure. The use of Azure is free between Novemeber 17 and December 31st. Microsoft will start charging commercially beginning in February 2010. I plan to sign up for the test period and post a review so check back here in a few weeks.

Developing REST Applications with the Microsoft .NET Framework

Review: i thought Henrik Frystyk Neilsen did a good job with this session. He did a basic overview of what REST is and then built an example on how to develop a basic application. More will come on this since I plan to develop a REST service that will run on Azure.

Coming together in the Cloud

Review: This session was the toughest for me to sit through. The first two presenters were stuggling to communicate and one of them seemed unprepared. However the last presenter did a good job talking about a project they are working on at NASA. It’s called the Pathfinder Innovation project and it allows developers to contribute to MARS exploration code development. You can check out and sign up for information on the project here.

Windows Azure Tables and Deep Dive

Review: Good session. Talked about how to handle redundancy and load balancing in the Azure environment through the use of partitions. More to come on this when I demo Azure.

What if, with the government’s help, every baby could start out life with a trust fund, no matter what the family’s financial circumstances? While some would certainly call this a great idea, detractors call it one more step toward socialism.


Congress is considering a bill that would give each child born in the United States a $500 savings account, with the goal of promoting savings that would later be used for education, a first home or retirement. Under the ASPIRE (America Saving for Personal Investment, Retirement and Education) Act, low-income children would receive additional funding, and all participants could add to their accounts over time.

It would seem that ensuring that American children have some small amount of financial security from birth is a positive for a number of reasons. The new plan would give kids at all income levels financial education, as they work to make the modest initial deposit grow. The importance of learning about saving and finances can’t be overstated – part of the problem with our economy today stems from a lack of appreciation for debt and future planning.

The purpose of the accounts would be to get people invested in their futures, allowing those who never had an asset to change their mindset and learn from the experience. Although $500 doesn’t sound like much, properly invested and amortized, it’s possible to build significant savings over time. The ASPIRE Act also would pair the creation of the accounts with financial literacy programs in schools.

A similar program has been underway in the United Kingdom since September 2002. It’s different than the U.S. version in that there are no restrictions on how recipients can spend the money.

Lawmakers are expected to reintroduce the ASPIRE Act before the end of the year, and it already enjoys bipartisan support. The challenge will be how to justify spending on the program during a time of financial crisis and budget deficits. The proposal is estimated to cost about $37.5 billion initially, then $3.25 billion per year.

After my desktop died and I had no money to replace it I started using my Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop as my main machine, for the task it was pumped up with another gig of ram but it too started to die. As money is short I had to look around for a quick replacement that would do the trick. I could either build my own or buy something prebuilt, I long ago swore that I wouldn’t waste time building anymore so this left me with the choice of one of these new nettop machines. Having played with with an ATOM powered netbook I was a little skeptical of the performance potential of such a setup for desktop tasks but this was after all a dual core ATOM capable of SMT and 64bit computing, additionally it has the nvidia ION chipset and GPU instead of the under performing Intel parts. Finally the machine comes with S/PDIF sound output and beefy 4 gigs of ram (one of these are taken by the GPU), you also get a set of USB speakers and a wireless keyboard/mouse combo.

The good parts:

The machine is easily mountable using the VESA compliant mount for your monitor, the performance is surprisingly good. The desktop feels snappy and there always seems to be a bit to give from even under load, even video playback without hardware acceleration (I haven’t yet made VDPAU work) is smooth. All your basic hardware is functional out of the box and the machine is very quiet. You get a plentiful 6 USB ports but access when mounted on a monitor they can be hard to access, there is HDMI output but I haven’t had a chance to try this as I lack supporting hardware finally the revo features eSATA. In short a very extendable and capable machine that comes equipped for a multitude of use cases.

The bad parts:

The S/PDIF output is placed on the topside of the machine when mounted in the VESA mount, meaning your fairly inflexible optical cable will hang from a height with no decent way to make it look good without breaking it – a modest suggestion for the next revision would be to put it on the bottom. You need the proprietary nvidia driver to make this run at it’s full potential, something I would rather avoid as I am uncomfortable using it. My Revo came with Windows 7 Home which I now have to fight to get refunded for, for an average user it does mean that you get a machine that will work when you turn it on but I would have liked the option to pick no OS or Linux preinstalled. Finally the wireless keyboard and mouse doesn’t work with Linux for some reason and Google turns up no immediate help as to making them work – mainly here I am interested in the keyboard as I love my trackball.

All in all, the Revo r3610 is an impressive machine. I am very pleased with it and would wholeheartedly recommend it, not just as a second machine or a media center, it actually makes for a fully sufficient desktop machine and it is a great bargain.

The ASPIRE course, in Portsmouth, has only been running for 12mths, and is the first of it’s kind in the UK. ASPIRE is the most advanced ACT-based addiction intervention program in the UK. As such we decided to create this blog to serve as a resource and to inform others.

Each of us will contribute on a regular basis, and we hope to encourage others by publishing a record our experiences and progress. There are currently 5 of us working alongside 2 therapists and we are all making steady progress. Between us we have 100yrs of experience in addiction.

As the UK government is now considering allowing addicts in recovery to choose their own, prefered course of treatment, it’s important that people understand the different approaches available to them. After all, we are all individuals and what works for one may not necessarily work for another. For us, ACT and ASPIRE are proving invaluable tools in our recovery.

In Portsmouth ACT is offered to clients as an option at all levels of recovery; from Baytrees, detox/psychiatric assessment unit, to support services at Kingsway House and CDA and finally ASPIRE.

El AA1 tiene una rutina de recuperación de BIOS integrado, que permite actualizar el BIOS, incluso si el sistema no arranca más. Es sólo significó para las emergencias y puede invalidar la garantía, a fin de utilizar a su propio riesgo.

Siga todos los pasos con cuidado!

Al principio era un formato de memoria USB con FAT.

Descargar la última BIOS aquí, y pon las dos FLASHIT.EXE y el archivo de la BIOS en el directorio raíz de la memoria USB. Cambie el nombre del archivo del BIOS a ZG5IA32.FD, eso es importante. No retire la memoria USB.
Apague la AA1, asegúrese de que tanto la batería y el adaptador de CA está conectado. Pulse Fn + Esc, manténgalo presionado y pulse el botón de encendido para encender en la AA1. Quita Fn + Esc después de unos segundos, el botón de encendido parpadeará. Pulse el botón de encendido una vez. El AA1 ahora iniciar el BIOS flash, no se interrumpirán en ningún caso. Después de un tiempo el botón de encendido dejará de parpadear, y el AA1 se reiniciará poco después. Espere pacientemente.
El BIOS se haya indicado y todos los ajustes a valor predeterminado.
Si por alguna razón usted cometió un error durante el procedimiento y no se reinicie por sí solo espere 5 minutos antes de apagarlo, sólo para estar seguro de que no es todavía el BIOS.

Acer is preparing the launch of its Aspire 8940 model with a powerful processor and all the technical capabilities to maximize the new operating system from Microsoft – Windows 7.

This new model from Acer will have a Core i7 and will feature a display of considerable size for a laptop: 18.4 inches (which in some ways perhaps calls into question the concept of “portable”).

It also has a video card Nvidia GeForce GTS 250M, reader Blu-Ray storage capacity of 600 gb and 4 gb RAM. It also has built-in webcam, wifi, HDMI and eSATA ports, card reader and an 8-cell battery.

It has been reported that will be available at a price of $ 1,350 (about 913 euros) but did not specify too much about his arrival, only be said to be available for “Christmas”

Windows 7  really has revolutionized the industry of computer manufacturing, especially on notebooks and netbooks.

Esse modelo vem com processador Intel Core i7 720QM, 4 GB de RAM DDR3, disco rígido com 500 GB, placa de vídeo NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250M com 1 GB de memória, Windows 7 Home Premium e drive Blu-ray.

Nada mal para um DTR (desktop replacement), mas é uma pena que ele não vem com sintonizador de TV integrado. Apesar disso o Aspire 8940 ainda conta com som surround graças aos seus cinco alto-falantes integrados!

O Aspire 8940 estará disponível até o final do ano a partir de US$ 1.350 (R$ 2.700).

Първо ще се запознаем с това, което ни е най-малко известно, а именно 3D панелът, който е използван в този лаптоп. В момента в света на високите технологии са актуални три типа 3D. Първата технология е тази, която се предлага в кината със старите червено-сини картонени очила, които всеки знае, че са много ефективни. Втората технология е много по-сложна гордо въведена от nVidia – 3D Vision. При нея използваните очила са в пълен синхрон със скоростта на кадрите на дисплея. За целта трябва да имате найстина доста мощен компютър, да се уверите, че дисплеят ви има най-малко 120Hz честота на кадрите или ако е CRT – 100Hz и сте готови за пълноценно 3D изживяване. Третото решение е именно главната тема на нашата статия – Acer и поляризираните лещи, които използват. За да има ефект в комбинация са използвани поляризирани очила, поляризиран панел на дисплея и TriDef софтуер. Именно този софтуер заслужава голямо внимание. Стартирайки го може да отворите всякакви 3D видео-клипчета,  чиито обекти буквално ще излизат от рамките на панела. Сваляме шапка на Acer, че са използвали максимално цялото работно пространство, за да осигурят пълен комфорт при работа с клавиатурата. МultiTouch тъчпадът е също доста просторен и удобен. С всичките екстри, които ви дава Acer Aspire 5738DG, няма как да нямаме и батерия гладна за ток, така че не очаквайте чудеса по този показател.
