Horses of Assateague Island

The horses of Assateague Island, Maryland/Virginia, are said to have been the result of a wrecked ship that was carrying the horses and that they have survived to this day as a split feral herd, one on the Virginia side and one on the Maryland side , although they may have been brought there by landowners in the 1600′s  to avoid taxation.  58 more words
