Criss-crossing the California Assembly 53rd District for the better part of two years has been an am

Criss-crossing the California Assembly 53rd District for the better part of two years has been an amazing, uplifting and inspiring experience. I have been blessed to meet with so many of you at your places of work, in your homes and at community events. You shared your concerns about the issues facing your families, our schools, the economy and California in general. I listened. Now is the time to finish what we started by voting on Election Day. I would be grateful for your support.

Betsy Butler with residents of AD53

I am running for State Assembly to bring quality jobs to our community. Huge amounts of venture capital funding are flowing to our state’s many green companies every year and we need to make sure those businesses continue to choose to site and maintain their facilities in the Golden State. At an environmental forum this week, I listened to concerns of green business owners and venture capitalists who believe that the State Legislature could be doing a better job of encouraging and retaining green businesses. They spoke of incentives and, more broadly, of a paradigm shift in how California approaches its relationship with green businesses. My years working on international trade issues at the Commerce Department for President Bill Clinton underscored the importance of creating incentives and building coalitions between disparate groups, including the business community, unions and environmental groups.

In challenging times there is great opportunity.

Vote for Betsy on Nov. 2 2010

The 53rd Assembly District is incredibly rich and diverse with possibility because of our highly skilled workforce from the high-tech and aerospace industries, as well as our manufacturing base, our travel and tourism sectors, and our trade and commerce interests. I believe we should be leading the nation in creating alternative energy, transportation and pollution control jobs. I’ll work to make sure that happens.

I am also running for State Assembly to bring California’s schools into the 21st Century. California remains dead last in the nation in public school funding per student. The Legislature must close corporate tax loopholes that deny schools billions of dollars each year and we must insist upon smaller class sizes, additional teacher training, and preserving access to affordable higher education. We should continue to explore new educational models including public-private partnerships. If elected, I will fight to improve our educational systems and make sure it remains California’s biggest priority.

As a member of the California Film Commission, I believe that we need to make sure our entertainment industry jobs are preserved and that we entice production back to California for good.

I have lived in the district cumulatively for over twenty years and will work to ensure our community stays vibrant and strong. I hope you will join me and help grow California. We need to seize our opportunities to invest and plan for the future in key sectors like job creation and job training programs, improving and ensuring our schools are successful and maintaining a clean, safe environment for all. California’s future is bright and now is the time to harness our possibility.

Like the rest of the Country, partisanship in Sacramento is at a fever pitch and the discourse is far from civil, let alone productive. The 53rd District needs a representative who is capable, experienced, thoughtful and has the ability and the desire to work across the aisle and with diverse groups of people to get the job done and move California into the future.

If elected, I’ll bring these qualities to Sacramento and to restore California’s promise. Please Vote for me on November 2, 2010. Thank you very much.
