Em comunicado, a General Motors revelou que iniciará a produção da perua derivada do Astra no ano que vem. O modelo, que adotará o nome Sports Tourer, será produzido na plantra da empresa em Ellesmere, na Inglaterra. De lá, sairá para os mercados britânico, como Vauxhall, e europeu, da Opel.

A nota foi divulgada pela GM para assegurar o futuro da planta inglesa. Nela, a gigante de Detroit ainda revela que em 2011 pretende iniciar as atividades no terceiro turno da unidade. Especula-se que ela seja responsável pela produção do ressucitado Calibra, ainda não confirmado pela Opel.

Considerando-se a série de eventos automotivos da Europa no ano que vem, não é de se estranhar que o modelo seja apresentado em Genebra (março), Madrid (maio) ou Paris (setembro). A geração anterior da perua foi apresentada na capital espanhola.

I SINDACATI DELLA OPEL – Il leader dei metalmeccanici Opel, Klaus Franz, che è anche membro del supervisory board dell’azienda, ha spiegato che i dubbi dei lavoratori della costola tedesca di Gm, sono «sul fronte finanziamento» e sul fatto che il piano del Lingotto «prevede tagli al personale per 9.000/10.000 persone in Europa».

Franz ha spiegato che l’amministratore delegato di Fiat, Sergio Marchionne, diversamente da quello che ha detto in pubblico, gli ha riferito che l’impianto Opel che produce motori di Kaiserslautern dovrà essere chiuso, così come altri siti in Italia e Gran Bretagna.

«È indispensabile che si svolga un incontro tra il governo, i sindacati e la Fiat prima che si chiudano i negoziati con Opel per conoscere gli impegni dell’azienda verso il Paese, verso gli stabilimenti italiani e verso le aziende che lavorano per la componentistica e l’indotto» sottolinea anche Giorgio Airaudo, segretario generale della Fiom torinese.

Non sappiamo ancora quale sará l’esito del progetto Opel, ma è indispensabile che Fiat rompa il silenzio e garantisca che gli stabilimenti e i posti di lavoro italiani saranno salvaguardati, evitando che l’espansione all’estero possa tradursi in un ridimensionamento nel nostro Paese che sarebbe causa di un grave danno».

Otelul – Astra. Mi se pare mie sau de la un timp galatenii joaca numai cu adversari “second-hand”? Glumesc, desigur – o echipa ce invinge Steaua, sau care scoate Timisoara din Cupa Romaniei merita tot respectul microbistilor adevarati. Dorinel Muntenu ar trebui sa stranga puncte in aceste ultime etape pentru a “ierna” mai linistit (cine ar fi crezut la inceputul sezonului ca Munti va reusi sa termine anul pe banca Otelului, dupa un start prost de campionat). Pronostic: X2.

Ceahlaul – International. Un meci pe care il voi urmari foarte atent din mai multe motive – unul ar fi numarul de goluri (daca si in aceasta partida se vor marca minim 2 goluri, inseamna ca fotbalul romanesc a devenit unul extrem de spectaculos, fapt dedus si din media de goluri inscrise etapa trecuta: 3,(1) goluri/meci). Ceahlaul este o echipa ce poate sa faca meciuri de peste 2 goluri (si doar din cele primite ), la fel ca formatia lui Fane Stoica, una ce incearca macar sa joace fotbal. Pronostic: X.

Dinamo – Alba-Iulia. Teoretic un meci facil pentru dinamovisti, insa cate meciuri facile n-au pierdut “cainii” in acest sezon (International, Otelul sau Medias sunt doar cateva nume). Totusi, am mai spus-o, Unirea joaca foarte imprastiat pe teren advers, nu isi gaseste drumul catre poarta, fata de jocul prestat pe teren propriu, acolo unde i-au invins etapa trecuta pe galateni. Probabil ii vom vedea pe teren pe Florin Bratu sau Marius Niculae, doi jucatori care au lipsit in ultima vreme din “Stefan cel Mare”. Pronostic: 1 pauza 1 final.

CFR Cluj – Craiova. Un adevarat derby al Provinciei, intre cea mai iubita echipa din Provincie all-time (Craiova) si cea mai iubita echipa din Ardeal (CFR Cluj). As zice ca niciuna dintre cele 2 combatante nu se afla in forma maxima, dimpotriva. Clujul lui Mandorlini nu pare suficient de impunator in ciuda numelor din lotul CFR-ului. Daca vorbim de Mandorlini ar fi de spus ca primul meci al sau pe banca Clujului a fost contra oltenilor, in Cupa Romaniei, unde au fost ajutati de Alexandru Tudor. Din acest punct de vedere, ar fi de urmarit daca “juvetii” isi vor lua revansa.

Pandurii – Rapid. Desi cu totii am fi tentati sa spunem ca meciul nu e castigat si ca rapidistii sunt capabili sa produca surprize neplacute pentru ei, din punctul meu de vedere jocul “giulestenilor” e suficient de matur la ora actuala pentru a se impiedica de o echipa a “pandurilor” prost organizata, fara un atacant adevarat in lot. Desigur, ramane de vazut cum se va incheia aceasta partida, pronosticul meu ramane 2 final.

Medias – Timisoara. Cu totii ne aducem aminte de partida de anul trecut de la Medias, acolo unde Alex Curtean avea sa faca minuni pentru “gazari”, inscriind un hat-trick de mare efect, contribuind decisiv la scorul final de 5-1. Astazi, Curtean e timisorean, evolueaza pentru banateni si probabil ca oaspetii vor din tot dinadinsul sa isi ia revansa fata de umilinta administrata in urma cu mai bine de 12 luni. Pronostic: peste 2,5 goluri.

Steaua – Vaslui. Acesta e considerat a fi “derby-ul etapei”, un termen atat de complex. Eu zic ca acesta e pe merit cel mai important meci al etapei, deoarece e un duel echilibrat, de 1 X 2, in care se infrunta doua combatante la titlu (una dintre ele chiar liderul clasamentului actual). Ca o paranteza, pe banca Vasluiului se afla legenda Stelei, Marius Lacatus, mai motivat ca niciodata sa o bata pe Steaua. Acest antrenor se afla la al 9-lea meci sub culorile Vasluiului, dupa ce a castigat pana acum toate meciurile. Pronostic? Zic pas…

Brasov – Iasi. Dupa ce etapa trecuta Brasovul s-a facut in mare parte de ras la Bistrita, unde a pierdut scor 1-2. Iasiul e o formatie oscilanta, cu rezultate de toate soiurile, capabile din cand in cand de surprize. Ma indoiesc ca ar fi capabili in aceasta etapa sa invinga o trupa aproape invincibila pe teren propriu… Cu o victorie, Viorel Moldovan reintra in lupta pentru titlu, o lupta in care cine are mai multe victorii inlantuite traieste mai mult. Pronostic: 1.

Urziceni – Bistrita. In primul rand trebuie sa imi scot palaria in fata Unirii, o formatie ce, in ciuda tuturor parerilor inaintea inceperii aventurii in Champions League, ajunge sa fie un adevarat ambasador al fotbalului romanesc in Europa. Bravo, Dan Petrescu! Bravo, Mihai Stoica! Sunteti doi performeri adevarati, la fel ca toti jucatorii. Revenind la meci, eu zic ca va fi macel. Pronostic: 1 pauza 1 final.

In dimineata aceasta, eram in masina cu sotia mea, in drumul nostru catre munca. Dimineata soferii sunt grabiti. Nu conteaza ca este 6,7,8 sau 9 AM ei sunt grabiti. Asa s-a intmaplat si in aceasta dimineata cand venind pe o straduta (nu stiu cum se numeste) ce se intersecteaza cu Str. Traian, undeva langa hotelul Comfort, am fost martorul unui mic accident din fericire fara urmari grave. Ceva tabla indoita si nervi inatinsi la maxim. Prea desul intalnit motiv – neacordare de prioritate. Eu nu inteleg. Cand ai ditamai panoul cu CEDEAZA, cand se presupune ca asta este un lucru elementar de care toti soferii trebuie sa tina seama, cand vezi ca este circulatie, tu ignori toate aceste semne si te avanti in intersectie cu nunsalanta unui nebun riscand tot, viata celorlalti, viata ta si toate pentru cateva secunde in minus pe care le poti castiga.

Euro NCAP have just released the latest set of results from their safety tests and quite a few cars managed to score the full five stars!

The brand new (and highly praised) Vauxhall Astra received a 5-star rating as did the new Mazda 3, BMW X1, the trendy Volkswagen Scirocco and the Peugeot 5008.

However…there was one vehicle which really failed to make the mark. The Toyota Urban Cruiser only managed to get 3-stars due to its poor adult occupant protection score.

Suhadi Sukama lebih dini menyiapkan bisnis sebelum dirinya pensiun. Maka ia sudah bisa memetik hasilnya ketika masa pensiunnya tiba.

Menurut sebuah survei hanya 2% saja orang yang tetap dapat menikmati kehidupan mapan sesudah masa pensiun tanpa perlu lagi melakukan kegiatan produktif. Selebihnya akan membuka usaha, bekerja lagi, atau menggantungkan diri pada orang lain (sanak-keluarga). Tetapi terlepas dari hal itu, Suhadi Sukama, seorang pensiunan BUMN, berpendapat, bagi pensiunan lebih baik berusaha dibanding dengan menempuh kehidupan ‘mantap’ (makan tabungan pensiun). Namun baginya, seorang calon pensiunan ketika hendak mempersiapkan bisnis, ekspektasi seharusnya bukan menjadi konglomerat dari usaha baru yang dirintisnya, tapi agar mempunyai kegiatan pasca pensiun, dan terutama mempunyai penghasilan tambahan selain dari uang pensiunnya.

Ia juga berpendapat, idealnya bisnis pensiunan mulai dipersiapkan saat seseorang masih aktif bekerja. Persiapan tidak selalu harus diartikan berupa persiapan materi. Pada tahap awal bisa dimulai dari pembelajaran jenis usaha dan prospek usahanya melalui literatur, baik tentang usaha yang bersangkutan, cara produksi/ mendapatkan produk yang akan dijadikan usaha, analisa pasar dan harga, persaingan usaha, dan lain-lain.

“Tentunya akan relax bila kita tahu lebih dini. Selain belajar dari literatur, kita perlu meluangkan waktu untuk melakukan berbagai uji coba dalam skala kecil untuk membuat/ mendapatkan produk tersebut. Jenis usaha idealnya dipilih berdasarkan pengalaman kita sendiri saat uji coba. Pilihan usaha lebih dini, akan memberi kesempatan kepada kita untuk menghimpun dana (berhemat) lebih awal untuk modal. Penyiapan lahan, infra struktur, menimba pengetahuan, melakukan pengujian usaha dan tidak kalah penting menyiapkan kebutuhan SDM untuk pelaksanaannya nanti, akan memerlukan waktu dan dana,” jelasnya.

Suhadi cukup beruntung. Mengaku tertarik dan mencintai agrobisnis, persiapan usaha sudah lama ia lakukan. Merunut ke belakang, sejak tahun 1980, yakni setelah lulus dari Teknik Perminyakan dan mulai bekerja, ia bahkan telah mempersiapkan diri, antara lain mempelajari budi daya ayam ras & itik, uji coba bertanam sayur-mayur, tanaman hias, ikan hias, burung, anggrek, bonsai, hingga mulai mempersiapkan bisnis agro. Kini, bisnis Eka Agro Rama yang dijalankan pria 58 tahun itu sudah kelihatan membuahkan hasil. Setidaknya sejak tahun lalu usaha ternaknya sudah menjual lebih kurang 600 ekor domba, dan tahun ini pasti bertambah. Lebih menggembirakan lagi, vanili dan kopi juga telah panen perdana dan hasilnya tahun depan siap dipasarkan. Sementara itu untuk tanaman keras, seperti jati, tingginya sudah 12 m, durian juga sudah belajar berbuah. Padahal saat ini masa pensiunnya ditambah dengan diperbantukan di BUMN tersebut masih tersisa dua tahun.

Lama waktu yang diperlukan untuk mempersiapkan bisnis menjelang pensiun adalah relatif. Menurut bapak 4 anak dan kakek seorang cucu tersebut, tinggal dihitung mundur saja dari waktu kapan ekspektasi bisnis yang terpilih mulai komersial (paling lambat saat mulai pensiun) ke waktu persiapan dan pelaksanaannya (sebelum pensiun). Ia berpendapat, 5 tahun masa persiapan sebelum pensiun adalah pas-pasan, dan idealnya adalah 10 tahun.

Di samping itu, faktor resiko atas bisnis yang dipilih perlu dijadikan pertimbangan. Pilihan bisnis beresiko lebih tinggi berarti juga harus memperhitungkan waktu yang cukup untuk pemulihan bila gagal. Artinya bisnis seperti itu akan lebih tepat apabila dimulai pada saat masih dalam kondisi aktif bekerja dan masih punya cukup waktu lama sampai usia pensiun.

“Kalau harus memilih, saya lebih suka resiko moderat tetapi penghasilannya dapat meningkat dalam skala jangka panjang. Artinya kita perlu membuat rencana agrobisnis dengan konsep multi crops, dari tanaman pendek usia sampai usia panjang secara tumpang sari. Selain itu kami sejak awal berusaha memiliki keunggulan produk, seperti menggunakan konsep organik yang akan menjadi trend di masa depan. Itulah sebabnya kami beternak (Villa Domba, ternak domba garut-red), sekali mendayung kami memperoleh pupuk gratis. Sistem tumpang sari secara benar, berarti juga efisiensi lahan. Kami saat ini seolah-olah memiliki lahan 4-5 kali lebih luas dan punya banyak pilihan produk, terserah pasar pilih yang mana, kami siap memproduksinya,” paparnya.

Sehingga baginya, kegiatan agrobisnis lebih sesuai karena sebenarnya dapat dirancang agar menghasilkan keuntungan secara berjangka, dari jangka pendek, menengah sampai jangka panjang. Contohnya, ketika ia berencana melakukan penanaman pohon kayu untuk bahan bangunan, seperti sengon, jati, dan lain-lain, penghasilan untuknya mungkin saja diperoleh dari tanaman sela pada tanaman inti tersebut (tumpang sari) berupa rumput untuk pakan ternak, palawija, kopi, vanili dan sebagainya, yang hasilnya dapat dinikmati di bawah lima tahun. Karena kayu sengon baru dipanen setelah lima tahun, apalagi jati berumur lebih dari sepuluh tahun. “Kalaupun tidak sempat menikmati, kita harus ikhlaskan untuk anak cucu kita,” imbuhnya arif.

Diungkapkan, biaya pengadaan lahan membutuhkan modal usaha terbesar pada usaha agrobisnis miliknya. Ia menyiasati dengan cara pembelian lahan secara bertahap sejak jauh-jauh hari, enam tahun sebelum proyek dimulai. Harga tanah pasti selalu mengalami apresiasi, sehingga tidak usah khawatir asalkan sudah punya perencanaan yang matang. Menyewa lahan, kalau bukan untuk sekadar uji coba, menurutnya malah akan menyulitkan di kemudian hari, terutama bila untuk tanaman keras. Pembelian lahan pun dicari yang masih murah harganya tetapi mempunyai daya dukung dan kecocokan terhadap rencana usaha, serta menghindari setiap pembelian tanpa perencanaan yang jelas. Sedangkan modal usaha lain adalah untuk pembelian bibit tanaman dan ternak, serta kandang.

“Kami melaksanakan pengembangan usaha secara bertahap disesuaikan dengan kemampuan pendanaan. Dalam program kami, rencana kegiatan dibagi menjadi tiga tahapan. Tahap Pertama (sekarang), Tahap Kedua (optimalisasi lahan) dan Tahap Tiga (sinergi dengan mitra usaha). Mempunyai program skala jangka panjang dengan harapan dapat dilanjutkan oleh anak dan cucu. Modal tidak besar sehingga terjangkau secara swadana, yang jelas kami telah hidup hemat hampir 10 tahun lalu. Saat belum memperoleh penghasilan cukup, kami danai dari penyisihan penghasilan tetap (gaji),” paparnya.

Şi în acest an, Muzeul „ASTRA” întâmpină sărbătorile de iarnă cum se cuvine. Pe parcursul a trei zile: 4, 5 şi 6 decembrie 2009, colindători de toate vârstele din întreaga ţară vor vesti Naşterea Domnului şi vor garanta începerea Noului An sub auspicii bune.

Sub genericul „datini şi obiceiuri de iarnă” muzeul organizează diverse manifestări, dedicate tuturor categoriilor de vârstă: vernisări de expoziţii (de icoane pe lemn pictate de Lucia Nica; de fotografie antropologică), concerte de colinde, reiterări de obiceiuri specifice acestei perioade (capra sau turca) din diferite zone ale ţării: Alba, Braşov, Mureş şi Neamţ şi bineînţeles Sibiu.

Astfel, vineri, 4 decembrie, începând cu orele 13, se va vernisa expoziţia de icoane pictate pe lemn: A-semănare în griuri de lumină (expoziţie cu vânzare, Piaţa Mică, Nr. 11); în intervalul orar 16⁰⁰- 18⁰⁰, în cadrul Târgului de Crăciun, pe scena din Piaţa Mare se va desfăşura un spectacol susţinut de copii cu dizabilităţi de la Şcolile speciale din judeţul Sibiu, care va continua şi în intervalul 19⁰⁰- 21⁰⁰, ocazionat şi de Ziua Internaţională a Persoanelor cu Dizabilităţi.

Sâmbătă, 5 decembrie, pe scena din Piaţa Mare, vor fi susţinute spectacole de datini şi obiceiuri de iarnă, în trei intervale orare: 10⁰⁰- 12⁰⁰ (copii de la Şcoli din judeţul Sibiu); 15⁰⁰- 17⁰⁰ (grupuri folclorice din ţară); 19⁰⁰- 21⁰⁰ (grupuri folclorice din ţară).

Tot sâmbătă, începând cu orele 16⁰⁰, se va vernisa expoziţia de fotografie: Imagine…festival…datină…iarnă (sala de expoziţie a Centrului de informare turistică, Primăria Municipiului Sibiu).

Duminică, 6 decembrie, de ziua Sfântului Ierarh Nicolae, Complexul Naţional Muzeal “ASTRA” Sibiu, alături de grupuri păstrătoare de tradiţii din judeţul Neamţ şi Braşov, vor colinda comunitatea de la Noul Român, prilej de a redescoperi frumuseţile Centrului Cultural-Memorial Doctor Gheorghe Telea Bologa.

Pe toată durata Târgului de Crăciun, Muzeul „ASTRA” prin amabilitatea organizatorilor, va comercializa la unul dintre standuri, produse de sezon (tradiţionale şi de inspiraţie tradiţionale), prin Galeriile de Artă Populară, Asociaţia Creatorilor Populari din România şi Departamentul Creatorilor Populari cu Dizabilităţi.

Astfel de produse pot fi achiziţionate şi de la Galeriile de Artă Populară din Piaţa Mică, inclusiv de la Galeria anotimpurilor, ambele aflate la parterul Casei Artelor (Piaţa Mică, Nr. 21).

Prezentarea muzeului în evidenţa CIMEC

Alba-Iulia 3-1 Otelul. Prin acest scor, Alba-Iulia pare a-i spune Gloriei Bistrita “Inca nu m-ai prins”, deoarece nu se pot scufunda si mai tare in clasament cu aceasta victorie – trupa lui Falub ramane pe locul 16 in clasament. Despre partida nu prea am ce zice - un rezultat la care sincer nu ma asteptam, goluri venite ca urmare a unor grave greseli. As dori doar sa laud golul lui Gabi Paraschiv (3-1) care a venit in urma unui sut nu foarte puternic, la firul ierbii, care a venit direct in manusile lui Cernea, dar s-a scurs incet si lin in poarta.

Rapid 4-1 Medias. Trei puncte ce ii dau aripi Rapidului in lupta la titlu, o lupta mai dura, echilibrata si crancena ca niciodata. Legat de partida ar fi de notat ca rezultatul final e unul prea zdrobitor, fapt confirmat de mai toata lumea. Ca aspect, jocul a  fost frumos, au fost multe goluri, am vazut si executii palpitante (de exemplu, lovitura libera a lui Spadacio finalizata printr-un gol in vinclul portii, dar si golul marcat de Parvulescu). Ceea ce ar mai fi de comentat e declaratia lui Nae Manea, care ar fi spus la conferinta de presa ca va antrena Rapidul pana la iarna, dupa care va veni altcineva. Oare cine?

International 1-2 Urziceni. O victorie de moral pentru campionii en-titre ai Romaniei care au luat toate cele 3 puncte contra unei echipe “infundate” in clasament. Marti e o zi importanta pentru echipa lui Dan & MM, deoarece ei vor juca pentru a fi sau a nu fi in primavara europeana (de preferat, Champions League ). Despre formatia lui Fane Stoica ar fi de spus ca atata poate pana acum, e clar ca la iarna trebuiesc investiti niste bani – asta daca se mai vrea continuarea proiectului, care probabil se bazeaza pe evitarea retrogradarii in acest sezon.

Bistrita 2-1 Brasov. Un scor ce m-a bulversat de-a dreptul, si nu pentru ca ar fi unul mincinos – dimpotriva, bistritenii se pot plange ca li s-a anulat pe nedrept un gol perfect valabil la 1-1. Brasovul m-a uimit, negativ. Nu poti zice ca aceasta e valoarea certa a celor doua echipe (in urma cu ceva vreme Brasovul zdobea Gloria in Cupa Romaniei printr-un cinic 3-0), sper pentru binele echipei oaspete ca au prins doar o zi slaba in aceasta etapa.

Craiova 3-2 Ceahlaul. Un meci cu multe goluri ce contribuie la media ridicata de goluri pe meci, ce creste parca de la etapa la etapa (campionatul nostru nu e recunoscut pe plan european ca fiind unul cu foarte multe goluri inscrie intr-o etapa). Revenind la meci, oltenii fura salvati de Vali Badea, un atacant ce marcheaza cand te astepti mai putin, si chiar a facut-o pe final, cand nici Mititelu, nici Piturca, nici cel mai infocat fan la Craiovei nu spera la succes.

Astra 2-1 Steaua. Categoric supriza etapei – un scor pe care efectiv nu-l pot intelege. Astra a jucat in urma cu doar cateva zile in Cupa Romaniei, in mare cu aceeasi jucatori cu cei care au jucat si luni (teoretic erau mai obositi ca stelistii, care erau odihniti, avand timp berechet sa pregateasca partida). Vine meciul contra Stelei si e de urmarit cum va reactiona Marius Lacatus – probabil ca isi va dori victoria, insa ma insel ca la nivel declarativ el ar “manji-o” pe Steaua.

Timisoara 2-0 Dinamo. Dinamovistii au toate scuzele din lume pentru acest insucces – in primul rand faptul ca au fost obositi dupa ce s-au intors duminica din zborul spre Timisoara, iar in a doua cursa, au petrecut 8 ore “in aer”. Meciul a fost interesant, am vazut un joc destul de cursiv cu faze pe poarta. Am avut si goluri, desi au fost inscrise cam tarziu; am avut ocazia desemenea, sa asistam la un penalty ratat de Marius Niculae cu cateva minute inainte de final, dupa lasarea unei ceti extrem de groase.

Iasi 1-0 Pandurii. Dupa cum spunea si Grigoras la conferinta de presa de dupa meci, Iasiul a invins dupa o lunga perioada nefasta. Gorjenii nu par la fel de solizi in joc, asa cum pareau inainte de plecarea lui “Sorinaccio”, un antrenor care in ciuda jocului defenesiv practicat, aduce puncte… Va fi o iarna grea pentru Liviu Ciubotariu – un tehnician inca tanar care mi-a lasat o impresie placuta anul trecut, atunci cand in ciuda faptului ca a retrogradat, Otopeniul incerca sa joace fotbal…

De acordo com o site de Marlos Ney Vidal, o Corsa europeu está em fase de testes em Campos do Jordão, interior do estado de São Paulo. O modelo está em adaptação de climas frios e quentes (ele já foi flagrado na região Nordeste). Sua arquitetura dará origem ao novo Astra, ainda que o visual possa não ser exataemente igual. A plataforma, porém, é a mesma.

Em alguns meses, o modelo adotará o visual definitivo, com pesada camuflagem. O lançamento pode acontecer ainda no ano que vem.

Don’t you find having to use multiple instant messenger services for all your different friends and contacts a real pain in the bottom, well I do, I have contacts on 3 different messenger services and Facebook which of course has its own chat / messenger service.

I have in the past gathered quite a few contacts on Windows Live Messenger, a few more on Yahoo Messenger and I even have a couple on AOL Instant Messenger, add to these all my lovely friends on Facebook and it all becomes a bit unworkable. I had more or less decided to single out only one messenger service to use along with Facebook, I chose Windows Live Messenger, I’m not sure why I just did.

But I remember quite a long time ago I used to use a bit of software called “Trillian”, this was like a shell, a front end if you like, which linked together my different messengers in one window, it worked ok, perhaps a little clunky at times but I remembered it being very useful. So I did a little search and lo and behold, Trillian still exists but with a whole new look and feel, a revamped interface, it looks all modern and stuff, it even accepts services such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace etc.

So in this modern, highly connected age we have “Trillian Astra”, this sleek new piece of software is a messenger client on which you can use all your different services under one roof, it works as standalone on your PC (my choice), on a web browser anywhere and on the IPhone (for anyone lucky enough to own one), it sounds like the answer to my problems so I have downloaded it to my laptop and decided to give it a try out, no I’m not lucky enough to own an IPhone.

Following download and installation, all very easy as it should be, I was asked to enter the log on details for each of the services I use, it also set up an identity and a little profile for Trillian Astra as well, there was nothing in the least bit difficult. I now discovered I had a brand new shiny messenger gadget sat on my desktop. On the contacts window were listed all my contacts from Windows Live, Yahoo and AOL, my Facebook friends did not appear on the offline list originally but as each one comes online they appear as such and when they go offline they are then added to the normal offline contact list and remain visible from then on, it also shows e-mail updates for any of the services which have it and updates by my Facebook contacts.

I can appear online, invisible, away, in fact any of the usual statuses either for all the services or individually. It is also completely skinable although I quite like the default skin myself, there is a well featured preferences editor so you can set it up more or less as you like. Another quite clever thing, well I think its clever, is the use of MetaContacts, if you have a friend who is a contact on yahoo, AOL and Windows live for instance you could leave them all showing separately, or alternatively you could lump them all together under one contact name of your choice, this is called a MetaContact and can tidy your contact list up a bit if its getting over busy.

I have already been involved in instant messaging on it with a contact on one of the main messaging services and found it easy and intuitive to use, its all pretty seamless, whichever service my friend is using it seems to me to be as if we are both using Trillian, meanwhile the other person just see’s more or less what they normally do with their own messenger. I was also chatting to a friend who was at the time on Facebook and while I saw a Trillian style chat window he was just seeing the usual Facebook chat window. The clunkiness I remember from the old version seems to have gone, so far this feels slick and smooth and I’m enjoying using it, its getting a big thumbs up from me and I see no reason at the moment for me to use anything else.

Of course everything I have said here applies to the standalone downloadable version which runs on your own PC, I haven’t tried the web browser based version and I don’t have an IPhone.

Of the main messenger services, Windows Live Messenger is still my favourite but now it doesn’t matter so much because with minimal effort I can see them all together by opening only one piece of software, coolio, I think I’ll be carrying on using Trillian Astra and therefore using all my messengers at once, well unless something bad regarding it rears its ugly head, if that happens I’ll let you know.

I went to see a football match yesterday. It’s the second time I’d ever been to one, and if I’m honest, I wasn’t particularly looking forward to it. This had nothing to do with having to stand and stare at a field for 90 minutes. No, it was just the simple fact that I have the same interest in sports as I do in cultivating interesting bacteria, i.e. none whatsoever. But having said that, it was all in aid of a friend’s birthday so I dutifully pulled on my “hard-man” jacket and joined the others for an afternoon of watching an apparently beautiful game. Arriving at the ground was like walking into a different world. There were more people than I ever knew existed, all out to support the teams they would gladly die for. And the chanting was fantastic. The lyrics would have made Bono proud, and I swear we even got an around going at one point. Seriously, you’d have been forgiven for thinking you’d stumbled into a mass choir practice. It quickly became very clear that the fans were truly in love with football.

It genuinely amazed me how I could be in the very small minority who didn’t love this game. Billions of people all over the world are in love with it, so how can it be that I don’t find it remotely interesting? Surely I must be in the wrong?

This rather neatly leads me onto the subject of this morning’s column, the Vauxhall Corsa, a car that is loved all over the globe, but that I can’t help but despise. And before you chime in with “Well I don’t own a Corsa, so there,” let’s look at the facts. The Corsa is the second bestselling car in Britain for 2009, coming in just behind the new Ford Fiesta, so there are clearly some people who like it. Everyone I’ve spoken to who owns one has said that it’s reliable, economical and practical. So why then, do I start to retch whenever one rolls past?

Well for a start I don’t get the styling at all. It just seems to have been nailed together using pieces of other cars. The back end is curiously reminiscent of a Chrysler Crossfire, whereas the front seems to be the result of a drunken grope in the dark between an Astra and a Fiat Punto. It just doesn’t make any sense. The other question that immediately springs into my mind is who exactly is this car aimed at? Surely if you were looking for a relatively good Vauxhall you’d just cut out the middle man and go straight for the faster, more economical, better equipped Astra? Buying a Corsa knowing full well that you’re going to trade it in for the next model up is just daft. This is a perfect example of a car that’s been engineered for a specific demographic. Vauxhall has seen that they have a space for a car that looks a bit naff, doesn’t go very fast, and costs very little to make. They’ve then seen that younger drivers would like such a car. So they make it.

But even when they make it they include an options list that’s so bizarre in nature I’m surprised you don’t need a dictionary to understand it. They talk about the “life” option, which as far as I can tell is just another way of saying “standard.” And they go on at length about their huge range of engines. I’m telling you now, there are three options. There’s a 1 litre, a 1.2, and a 1.3. Now we all know that 1 litre is not going to get you anywhere. It barely provides enough power for you to move. And don’t even bother with a 1.2, because speaking as someone who’s owned a car with that particular engine, I can assure you that whilst it will get you where you want to go, it will also ensure that you get there very late. So that leaves you with the 1.3, excellent choice.

I can see why people like the Corsa. It is, on paper at least, a good car. And if the 15,000 of them sold in March alone this year are anything to go by, Vauxhall must be doing something right. I’m not sure, I may come round to the idea of the Corsa. It’s just that at the moment I don’t get why it’s there. There seems to be no reason to have one. If you wanted a small car that’s quite gutsy, go for the Agila. And if you want a bigger car for the family, go for the Astra. The Corsa sits in the Vauxhall range like a zeppelin in the middle of central London.It just doesn’t fit in.

So if you’re looking for a new car, just think twice about buying a Corsa. Yes it may be cheap and it may look alright from certain angles, but it just has no purpose, no presence, no sense of belonging. So think long and hard before you look at the Vauxhall brochure. Or better still, just stick with your old car and go watch the footy instead.

At an emotional level, you feel safer in a hatch, as there are no side doors behind you through which attackers may force their way.

The Silver Falcons, official display team of the South African Air Force perform at an air show at AFB Overberg.

Unlike the display teams of many other air forces the Silver Falcons pilots are not dedicated to the team only. Team pilots are all instructors at the Central Flying School based at AFB Langebaanweg and can only spend their spare time practising for their displays.

Alba-Iulia – Otelul. Un meci trist intre doua echipe cu joc “posac”, sarac in faze spectaculoase. De la o vreme, ardelenii nu mai dau acelasi randament pe teren propriu, joaca ceva mai lent – poate asa le-o fi zis Falub (ma indoiesc). Galatiul s-a egalat singura etapa trecuta, cand nu au pastrat un avantaj de doua goluri pana pe final, contra timisorenilor. Asadar, ma astept la un meci cu multe erori si cu putine fructificari. Rapid – Medias. O partida interesanta in  care nu vad ca vreo parte sa fie favorita certa. Desigur, Rapidul are prima sansa datorita terenului propriu, insa Mediasul s-a dovedit a fi capabila de surprize, atat placute cat si neplacute. Rapidistii s-au despartit de ceva vreme de Viorel Hizo, iar acum locul lasat liber este ocupat de Nae Manea, dupa ce se spune ca acesta s-ar fi certat cu Marian Rada. Pronostic: X.

International – Urziceni. Un joc ce probabil va merge intr-o singura parte – spre poarta argesenilor. Nu vad cum s-ar putea ca oaspetii sa aibe prea mari dificultati contra celor antrenati de Fane Stoica. Poate doar un ghinion teribil bazat pe un prim 11 inconsistent, pe baza menajarii fotbalistilor importanti in vedere meciului din Champions League. Poate si gandul la meciul important de marti ar fi o cauza a unui eventual esec/semi-esec. Sau poate nu… Pronostic: 2.

Bistrita – Brasov. Aceeasi adversari, de data aceasta in campionat, dupa ce in decursul acestei saptamani s-au mai infruntat si in Cupa Romaniei. Din pacate pentru bistriteni, luni au aflat de trista veste a mortii lui Constantin Carstea, un tehnician ce a antrenat multi ani pe banca Gloriei. Pentru Brasov, o eventuala victorie i-ar putea ridica in clasament, acolo unde cu putin noroc ar putea ajunge campioni de toamna, dupa ce au fost liderii clasamentului si cateva etapa in acest sezon. Pronostic: peste 2 goluri.

Craiova – Ceahlaul. Orice rezultat in afara de victoria gazdelor ar fi extrem de greu de digerat pentru Adrian Mititelu, a carei echipa se afla deja intr-o groapa din care nu se va ridica prea usor pana la finele turului. Adversarii sunt abordabili, au preluat de curand “lanterna rosie” si probabil ca vor ramane pe ultimul loc mult si bine. Pronosticul meu e clar – 1 solist.

Vaslui – CFR. Un duel extrem de echilibrat intre doua formatii ce au schimbat cate un antrenor pana acum. Daca la gazde, schimbarea de antrenor a produs un adevarat lant de victorii (6 la numar pana acum), ramane de vazut ce se va petrece la Cluj, acolo unde Mandorlini a “aterizat” in cursul perioadei de pauza datorate partidelor inter-tari. Intr-un fel regret plecarea lui Conceicao, un antrenor nu foarte rau, insa care nu mai era deloc agreat de catre conducere si fani. Pronostic: 1.

Timisoara – Dinamo. Derbyul etapei fara niciun fel de dubii, un duel in care se intalnesc doua forte ale campionatului. Gazdele vin relaxate, mai ales ca nu au jucat in Cupa, in vreme ce dinamovistii se pot bucura de revenirile lui Florin Bratu sau Marius Niculae, atacanti pe care nu i-a putut folosi in ultimele etape datorita accidentarilor. Un duel foarte echilibrat in care va conta enorm de mult sprijinul publicului banatean. Pronostic: 2.

Astra – Steaua. Un meci accesibil pentru oaspeti, desi nu va fi nici foarte usor. Ploiestenii au dat dovada ca formeaza o echipa foarte buna sub bagheta lui Napoli in momentele lor bune. Ar fi de spus si ca in acest meci, cei mai obositi vor fi gazdele, care au evoluat si in Cupa Romaniei cu cateva zile inainte. Ramane de vazut daca acest meci se va disputa si mai ales in ce conditii; mizez pe sub 2,5 goluri.
