My first visit to Hard Rock Cafe was in Berlin (2007) with my class. We went on one of those educational trips and stopped by Berlin before continuing to Poland to see Auschwitz and Birkenau.

My second visit to Hard Rock Cafe was in Barcelona (2010) with my very good friend Sandra. We were visiting my grandparents in Torrevieja an decided to take a trip to Barcelona for a few days.

I’m just gonna go out on a limb here and say that I am one of the reasons my boyfriend gets out of bed every morning. Probably because I’m a nagging bitch in the morning, and probably because he feels some kind of responsibility to look after me and make sure that I get to school. I am, however, pretty certain he loves me. So I think he’s getting up every morning to spend the most possible time with me.

I guess to some people this seems like no problem at all when living in a country like Norway. Surrounded by polar bears, moose and other wild creatures, but in reality it’s actually difficult to spot one while driving/taking the train etc. I have however seen several, but then again.. I’m never the one driving, and I’m really looking to spot them. I find wild creatures majestic.

As I mentioned next to the first picture I was in Berlin with my class in 2007, due to an educational trip (World War II). We didn’t stay in Berlin for a long time, so I have done nothing more than visit Berlin and dine at Hard Rock Cafe. I find Berlin stunningly beautiful, and I know for sure I’m going back there (at least once) before I die.

I kinda have done this already. Back in 6th grade I made drawings of all the astrological signs, and I was really happy with mine. I told my mother I wanted it tattooed, she laughed. A few years later I got the tattoo. It’s not pretty or obvious, but it’s mine.

Rory’s voice penetrated the music, but she didn’t turn from the piano, her fingers flashing over the keys of Liszt’s Liebestraum—a love song.  Love, fear and a slow, creeping anger colored the music.

“I can’t offer you music,” he said.  “I can only offer you myself, but I know that will never be enough for you, unless we leave Alastair Keep forever and don’t look back.  The past will never leave us alone.”

Here is how I would traipse around the city in the above beauties:  I would wear them with shorts on a crispy fall afternoon while running errands, I would put them on after yoga when grabbing coffee, or I would pair them with a funky skirt and white t-shirt while having dinner and a cocktail with friends.   Anyone who knows me would agree that these furry finds fit my personality to a T and I would wear them all the time!

Today though I watched a new show called touch and realized that, this was precisely what should be written about today. The show Touch is reminiscent of some of my old favorites, Quantum Leap, Early Edition, to name a few. There is the unlikely male hero, called upon, by an unexpected force or character to right a wrong. They have a guide of some sort Hologram, Cat/two friends, Son/Therapist like figure(Danny Glover) and they are propelled to do good, even to the point of sacrifice. There are others that fall along similar lines, Charmed, and the less metaphysical Leverage, any crime based show, and many more.

So here I sit with my pot of tea and my comfy sweater, trying to figure out what it is that draws me to these shows. Well clearly the metaphysical aspect is a draw, the quest for the betterment of man, and the very real characters in the center of it all. Even as a child, I saw patterns, to the point of missing the obvious. I suppose that is why I love the arts, I see what is common between all man and write, paint, and sing what connects us all. I collected coins, not for the rarity, but for the age, wondering what hands had touched it, who may have had stories with that coin. I collected keys for the same reason…. I mean really who collects keys? They led to doors, to mysteries, to people with very real stories. I would watch and see how people would walk to the same beat of an unheard song, speak in patterns and how words I never heard before would suddenly pop up out of mouths unrelated. I saw religions not as hard and fast rituals with rules and laws, but stories of unknown histories, tied together across cultures and time. (much to the chagrin of my religious teachers.)

As for the propelled by an unseen force, I have known that force, that thread so to speak for a very long time, seeing how one event in my life lead to another. Even when I was set on another path, you see so clearly how I was supposed to be in that time or place. Even as I resisted, I was pulled and pushed into place to receive the knowledge, gifts, or people I was meant to. We are all like that you see, but we fail to look with eyes open to these threads until we look back on those moments. I think the trick is to see, really see what is happening at the time of the present. (The benefit of meditation-being in the now.) Even this week I ran into people at the precise moment in our lives that we were needed. I know that at least one may see the purpose of the meeting. We were all interconnected, and I saw it. I saw the person I was supposed to meet, felt the need to say hello and did not. But there was the common friend out of nowhere and when I asked the right question I was introduced to the very person, I felt the need to meet. I have a feeling that had we not met, fate would have brought us back around to try it again! There are other connections and events that will unfold, but that will be shown to me when the time is come, I must do what is called in this moment and let fate worry about the rest.

As far as righting a wrong, I have often stepped into that role as mediator, healer, rescuer (certainly nothing as dramatic as television) But I was called on non the less. They may never even know the role I played, or I may never have known the reality of what I was doing, but it was for a greater purpose. In College I had the rare and coveted single room, but saw a friend in a bad situation living with people who frankly did not get along with her. I will never know how true the stories were, but I told her to come live with me for the rest of the year. Despite giving up my solitude, I knew that the three of them were better off separated. It was a small thing and I did not think twice, it just had to be done. It did drive me nuts having a roommate at the time, having been an only child, I would have rather had my own space, but it simply was not an option to let her stay there even one more evening. You have no idea how the small gestures you make are often the kindest moments a person has had in a long time. I have had people do that for me on more than one occasion and they will never know how deeply felt their kindness was. I could not thank all of them, but have tried to pay it forward.

With Touch there is mystical found in the hard reality of numbers. It is a beautiful contrast. The only demons thus far have been the inner ones we all deal with day-to-day. We have the added dimension of one of the main players being diagnosed with autism, though the father in the story debates the accuracy of that diagnosis. I think though that there are many people who SEE the world so differently in a way that the rest of us simply can not. It is too early in the series to know if it will become an obsession, but so far I’m hooked!

Spirit Guide Message:

Speak your heart to those who will not listen. While it seems that it falls upon deaf ears, it does not and has not. Their heart is too broken, to understand the fullness of yours right now. Give it time and you will see the light of a new day shine upon them and see the illumination of your soul in their eyes.

Making the coffee beans is beyond easy. I thought about it for a while after I had a craving for some, and this is what I came up with!

Supplies:

• Coffee beans
• Two small microwave safe bowls
• Spatula(s)
• Melting chips, milk or dark, plus a contrasting color for decorating
• Parchment paper
• Two plastic sandwich bags

1. Melt the chocolate till its stir- able, without any chunks or burnt chocolate. If there are small un-melted bits of chocolate: don’t worry about them, the heat of the chocolate surrounding them with take care of it.
2. Spoon the chocolate into a plastic bag (choose the size of the bag depending on how many beans you intened to cover) and cut a hole in the tip. Make sure the bag is completely closed, and then squeeze the chocolate out onto your parchment paper. Make circles about the size of a dime, then plop a coffee bean on each one! Take your bag of chocolate and cover the tops of the beans.
3. Repeat the same process with the white chocolate (or whatever color you wanted for decorating) and pipe decorations on the tops!

If you noticed, mine look like piles of dung. I’m currently trying to come up with a way to end up with smooth tops. Maybe cutting a larger hole in my chocolate bag? Maybe using a mold? Other than that, this batch turned out very well. Although my white chocolate wasn’t cooperating and gave me difficulty as I tried to decorate my beans with the astrological signs…

A bright new day has arrived! Let me start by saying a cheer:

I have a brand new space and I couldn’t be more excited! This year has been blessed, but full of trials that I never expected. I have gained some new friends and lost some old. I have endured loss, betrayal, criticism and negativity beyond what I could have imagined. I have however come out with more blessings than I could have ever imagined. I never thought I would even have a space at all let alone taking the step to move into a bigger one! I have survived the proverbial year in business and have begun to see the buds coming out in time for spring. The friends I have made along the way have been more of a blessing than they will ever know, and those who felt the need to go along their own path have given me lessons and strength that will last a life time.

I am now working on two books and am excited to say that the writing bug that bit me long ago is finally sticking around. One is a Novel that I am hoping will see completion next year and the other is top-secret that will hopefully be published by November of this year. I will to the best of my ability keep up with blogs here, but know that I may have to change the timing and structure a bit so I can fit everything in.

The new space also gives me more time to play with. I am developing a new program and will introduce night classes, events and meditations. I also will have an open house sometime in march so that you can drop by, ask questions and see the new place. I am talking with someone about coming in as a guest reader and speaker/facilitator. There are some great ideas popping up and am always looking for more. Feel free to chime in with classes and events that you would like to see happen.

As many of you know I have been doing private readings for years and will have at least one Saturday a month where you can have a shorter reading as a discounted rate. This is great for those who are interested, but do not want to commit to a full reading quite yet. There will be one this Saturday with slots still available from 11am-2pm, but you must book ahead. I do offer Parties and have been booking more this past season and coming up. I can do flower readings, mediumship galleries, card readings and meditation parties. You can have a private meditation in our space at Indigo Papillon up to 15 people. If I go to your place for meditation it is $7, at the center $5.

Fairs:

I also have been doing fairs for a few years, but most recently you can find me at Soulful Awakenings in Belmar, NJ 1 sat. a month for their reading fair! This is a great place with more than just readings. They have Aura Pictures, various modalities of readers, masages (I need to get one next time!) and metaphysical items for sale.

If you are running a corporate event or fair and need a reader give me a call or e-mail, though I am starting to book 1-3 months in advance and I suspect it will get further out as this grows.

Other events:

In a few weeks I will be going to Fairleigh Dickenson University to speak at a psychology of beliefs class. I spoke and gave a demonstration last March and was voted the best speaker! I was humbled and honored to be voted as such. While no plaques or trophies are involved, what was involved was a group of students, who could have been quite cynical, but instead allowed me to speak and demonstrate with open minds and hearts. It was a wonderful experience and I can not wait to go again, I hope it goes as well or better than the last time.

In his amazing book The Nazis and the Occult Paul Roland opens our eyes to the intimate world of Hitler and his regime. He has based much of his work on secret Nazi documents, private diaries and correspondence of Hitler’s mentors and those of his inner circle. I will only touch on a few of the occult practices Hitler was involved in and draw most of my information from his amazing book.

The Swastika has been used for thousands of years as a paganistic symbol of good luck. It is supposed to represent the lightning power of an omnipotent deity – whether it is Buddha, Brahma, Zeus or Thor.

The Spear of Destiny was claimed to be the ancient spearhead which pierced the side of Christ. It was claimed that whoever possessed it and solved its secrets would hold the destiny of the world. The claimed spear was displayed  in an Austrian museum and it is said when 19-year-old Hitler learned of it he said the words about the spear were to change his whole life – he said it seemed to propel him into the driven purpose he felt he was created for.

Reincarnation seemed to be a large part of who Hitler seemed destined to be. He apparently believed that he had lived many lives in many persons. One of these he claimed was Klingsor - a fictitious operatic character who was the very embodiment of evil.

Hitler and the Nazis were obsessed with astrology.  From his earliest days of power it was said that Hitler was directed and driven by the astrological charts. Important decisions, meetings and even battle plans were determined by his private astrologers. In a 1939 German newspaper it was said

“No one believes in astrology more than Herr Hitler… and he proves it. Before striking he chooses the most favourable time indicated by the stars.”

Karl Krafft was a swiss born astrologer who was hired by the Gestapo to write-up Hitler’s astrological report. At one point he warned that the stars were warning of an attempt on Hitler’s life. He gave a very specific time frame. Sure enough true to the predicted date a time bomb went off at a Munich beer hall exploding just minutes after Hitler had left the building.

The straight-armed fascist ’Hitler salute’ was also said to be based on paganism beliefs. It was said to have magical associations – being taken from a Golden Dawn ritual in which it represented the acknowledgment of the earth energy.

Christianity is to be kept pure. It was never intended to be watered down, mixed up or associated with any other type of doctrine. New age tells us Christianity is good – let’s just mix it up with a few other beliefs and religions – let’s make it a little more palatable. As we are living in the last days we must be aware of “goodness shrouded in deceit.”

Hitler initially appeared with pure motives for the fatherland and nationalism. Yet all along the tell-tale signs of occultic practices were evident. Who you vote for in forthcoming days, where you go to church, who you associate with – all have a lasting impact on your life and that of our country.

Let us be aware to stay true to the undiluted Word of God, not adding or taking away – lest we too be greatly deceived and pay an eternal price for our foolishness. Satan comes clothed as an “Angel of Light.” Only those who are walking in tune to the Holy Spirit will be able to discern his clever and deceiving tactics.

Let us not be another Germany.

What a strange month January has been. I have re-entered the fantastic world of dating and have had some lovely experiences.At the same time I am reminded why I withdrew from it to begin with. There were things I missed and things I did not.

I missed the first date process from beginning to end. Your talking to the guy and you know he is dying to ask you out, but is as afraid of rejection as you are. Be it online or on the phone, the tension is palpable. “Um would you like to go for….?” Coffee, dinner, does it matter? How do you answer? Is it worth the risk? Is he worth the risk? I can not say how many I deemed, not worth it and said no to this month. I did say yes to a few and they were nice.

You go to the place, looking as cute as possible and wait, and look and wait and look. check your phone. Am i Early? Am I late? Did he decide not to show? Then in he walks trying to look cool as a cucumber, but you can see in his eyes he is not. In between the once-over he’s trying to sneak in, he manages to say hello. with a smile you say hello back, trying to figure out if he looks like you remembered, listening to the tone of his voice. Is he a gentleman. He’s thinking, hmm thoughts we probably do not want to put on here lol. 

You walk to your seating area and the dance begins. The dance of knowledge, learning each other. Running through the thousand scenarios you have lived through or hoping for in the space of a few hours. he perhaps takes your hand over the table or as you are walking. You sort through the favorites, the background, the hopes of the future. After an evening of what you hope will be filled with laughter and starry eyes, you walk to the car and he leans in for the first kiss.

The moment that can turn the tides for the course of the date. if the sparks fly, you forgive the little things that may not have quite fit into your mold for the perfect date. You forget how, the two of you relived a little too much of your baggage, and get swept away, by the beauty of it. the almost innocence.

Or, if it is bad, you think: How long will this last? Oh God is that his teeth?. Did I just bite him? Eyes open or closed?

The thoughts that run through your head alone could drive you mad, but now you have to deal with the thoughts in someone elses head as well.

If you have been married for a long time you should go and stage a first date, a chance meeting and relive the excitement and fears all over again.

Not all first dates are rosy, but I will leave that for another blog. I am still single, but enjoyed my time and look forward to the next adventure.

I like reading things about astrological signs.  Sometimes they’re right on, and other times they don’t apply at all.  But I figured that we could delve into this a little bit.

For some background, I was born in the year of the rat (1984):

Being born a Rat is nothing to be ashamed of. In China, the Rat is respected and considered a courageous, enterprising person. It is deemed an honor to be born in the Year of the Rat and it is considered a privilege to be associated with a Rat. Rats know exactly where to find solutions and can take care of themselves and others without problems. They use their instinctive sense of observation to help others in times of need and are among the most fit of all the Animal signs to survive most any situation.

Besides just being a Rat, I’m also a wood Rat:

Despite having a remarkable facade of self-confidence, deep down, Wood Rats are the least sure of themselves compared to other Rats. However, they wouldn’t dream of showing this side of themselves to anyone. Only close companions of a Wood Rat would ever suspect that he or she had such self-doubt. In fact Wood Rats are often worried about downfall, despite their ability to find success. Well-liked, proficient, and good leaders at work, Wood Rats seem to function best when they are surrounded by family and friends. Cordial and delicate, they are usually well loved by family, friends and peers.

I’d say that this is a pretty good representation of me, that is if you have to sum me up in two paragraphs.  If you want to combine the Chinese Zodiac with the Western Zodiac, you get:

PISCEAN RAT
This Rat is delicate and incisive, and does well as a consultant or a counselor. Piscean Rats are creative, but tend to lack the confidence necessary and thus feel a need to be part of a team.

J was born the year of the Ox (1985):

Those born under the influence of the Ox are fortunate to be stable and persevering. The typical Ox is a tolerant person with strong character. Not many people could equal the resolution and fearlessness the Ox exhibits when deciding to accomplish a task or an objective. As we used this great creature long ago to plow the soil day after day, so do Ox people labor through their daily responsibilities either at work or at home without complaint or gripe. Oxen know they will succeed through hard work and sustained effort and find no truth or benefit in concocting get-rich-quick schemes.

Besides just being an Ox, J is also a wood Ox:

Understanding and fair, these are the least unyielding of the Oxen and the most apt to change and accept new ideas. A more liberal attitude gives them the ability to appreciate the value of being a part of a team, and other members of the team respect the high principles of the Wood Ox. They are particularly self-confident giving them an air of unspoken authority. This characteristic means that Wood Oxen are often chosen as leaders or spokespeople. They also have a shorter fuse than other Ox people, and are more likely to be outspoken or to stand up in a crowd to be heard. These Oxen are quite devoted to those they love and make strong and affectionate friends and relations.

East Meets West:

Capricorn Ox

Capricorn Oxen are made of true resolute.  As sustained effort allows them to achieve a very comfortable way of life.  They are conservative and responsible and will work long hours to provide their loved ones with security and comfort.

I’d say that this fits J to a T, and I’m pretty sure that he’d agree with me.

As to our baby, it’s hard to say what he’ll actually be like, but according to the Chinese zodiac……

Dragons are the free spirits of the Zodiac. Conformation is a Dragon’s curse. Rules and regulations are made for other people. Restrictions blow out the creative spark that is ready to flame into life. Dragons must be free and uninhibited. The Dragon is a beautiful creature, colorful and flamboyant. However, Dragon people be aware of their natures. Too much enthusiasm can leave them tired and unfulfilled. Even though they are willing to aid when necessary, their pride can often impede them from accepting the same kind of help from others. Dragons’ generous personalities give them the ability to attract friends, but they can be rather solitary people at heart. A Dragon’s self-sufficiency can mean that he or she has no need for close bonds with other people.

He will be a water Dragon:

Water has a calming effect on the Dragon’s fearless temperament. Water allows the Dragon to re-direct its enthusiasm, and makes him more perceptive of others. These Dragons are better equipped to take a step back to re-evaluate a situation because they understand the art of patience and do not desire the spotlight like other Dragons. Therefore, they make smart decisions and are able to see eye-to-eye with other people. However, their actions can go wrong if they do not research or if they do not finish one project before starting another.

East Meets West:

Cancer Dragons have polished tastes and are generally an artist of some sort. Their homes act as show- cases of these artistic talents. These are less self-indulged characters and are caring, tender, individuals. For them a tight-knit relationship and established home are necessary for happiness.

However, the sky is divided into various systems of the astrology. For example, the western astrology measures from equinox and the solstice points. However for some of the divisions like the Vedic astrology measures along the equatorial plane among other divisions. From the geography of the earth, the sun rises from the East and sets towards the West, in zodiac this is referred to as a thin band along the ecliptic which consists of the zodiac signs and the constellations.

However there are four major elements of the universe which give rise to the nine signs of the astrology. The signs are the fire signs which give rise to signs Aries, Leo and the earth signs that give rise to signs like Capricorn and Virgo. Some of the elements are the Air signs which give rise to signs like Gemini, Libra and finally water signs which give rise to signs like Cancer and Pieces.

There are some classifications that are used to classify the nine signs of the astrology. Some of the signs include the personal signs which the signs like the Gemini, Cancer, and Aries come up; interpersonal signs give rise to the astrological signs like the Virgo, Scorpio and the Leo. The last classification is the transpersonal signs that give rise to Capricorn, Aquarius and the Pieces.

However there are various traditional beliefs which have been put across concerning these astrological signs. For example there is a belief of essential dignity which says that the moon, sun and the planets are stronger in some given signs than others hence because of their basic nature both are held together in happiness. These are among other beliefs.

I have been in a state of transition and an abundance of words for the project I am working on, but I am at a loss on what to share here.  I had a lovely trip to the ER and emotional stuff is being released along with physical. I have worked on a new Donation pile for the Vets and am making room for the new. There is more to go, but with every addition I feel a certain amount of freedom seeping in. I have taken my own advice and rested some, but feel there is more to do. So I bid you good luck on your own transitions and letting go in this new year.

I spoke to one of my previous employers yesterday in hope of getting a part-time job for the moment while I apply for teaching in China and it was such a shocking conversation. In the sense that it sort of woke me up because of the message delivered by her; quite similar to that of El when I was writing an article for a magazine in China.

I was asked to write an article on Singaporeans in Dongguan and had my list of interviewees ready — two of them were Singaporean restaurants in Nancheng, the city next to Dongguan. So I made my way there speaking to cab drivers in the little Mandarin I know and ended up at the place where the restaurants should be — only there weren’t.

I had another interviewee , Christine, whom I met through an event that was organized by Yoyo Spa, a spa place that El and her colleagues frequent. I went to Yoyo in hope of getting Christine’s number to arrange an interview with her but the girls at Yoyo informed me that she just left for Singapore on holiday that day.

Interviewees list became invalid. I walked out of Yoyo only with Christine’s email address. That was something.

“Maybe it’s a sign that you shouldn’t continue with this, ” said El on the phone after hearing about my afternoon.

Something inside refused to let that in. Giving up was too easy.

“No, I am going to find a way. There will be some way, I just need to think about it.”

And eventually, I did get the article published using El, two of her colleagues and Christine(via email interview) as interviewees.

I got reminded of this on the phone yesterday when my previous employer urged me to stay in Singapore for a year first because of how “practical” it might be given the education loan that I have to think about to replay. Again, the more she tried to bring me back to security and how I should just bite my lips and struggle through for a year before I set off to China, I just realised how much I can’t teach here in a place where I don’t believe in how they teach. It’s so important for me to have so much connection to what I do, to do my job well and having gone through the education system in Singapore and teaching in it as well, I know that for me to teach here, I’d have to either change the system or flee because it’s all about speed and surface level engagement here. I understand that this system might work for the masses here but I want to dedicate myself to people who want to go much deeper into the English and the culture and lifestyle that it is and I know exactly which language school in Dongguan is offering that.

I am even more sure of making my move to China now. I will continue to face whatever I need to – money, uncertainty, family, loans — before I get there. I will get there no matter how long it takes and work at a place where I feel connected. I will not conform. I will not rest till I go.

My eyes are only on that goal.

I will make it happen.
