In December 2008 i bought online with my credit card (thanks to ePayment) four Asus Eee PCs
4G Surf (two white and two black models) from PCfun. I liked the white ones better so i kept
one for myself and the rest i gave them to the family members. Being my first gadget, i was and
i’m still very excited about its features. All models come with a friendly linux distro from which
you can connect to the Internet very fast. When i got my Eee PC out of the box it took me about
1 to 2 minutes at most to connect to a free wireless network and surf the net. Sweet! I
downloaded an MP3 and listened to it just to check the sound and the incorporated speakers from
the LCD panel.
I like Linux, but running it as a desktop has no use to me, so i quickly decided to install
Windows XP. Let’s see how i did it.
PS: most of the tips here might also work with any other desktop or notebook as well.

If you are considering purchase a netbook recently, one of the best sellers may attract you is the Asus Eee PC netbook 1005ha. As my previous article reviews the amazing battery life of this model, today we are going to look at some more features.

Some people questioned about the practical purpose of using a netbook, with such a small laptop how could you make your work comfortably?

Yes, with 4.6 pounds weight and slightly over 10 inches screen it is a very tiny mini thing. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t type like the normal laptop does. All in all, the 10005ha is probably the best all around netbook you can buy. While the toshiba and the samsung have better keyboards, and the toshiba has a better mouse…the samsungs speakers are much improved…each oft hose has major flaws (toshibas battery sticks out of the case and their speaker is on the BOTTOM…Samsung used a glossy screen that reflects direct light and becomes unwatchable unless shaded! Plus its a 270 prcoessor not a 280, and no BT).
If you want the biggest and baddest power netbook out there, the asus is it.

Just not THIS one. There are various flavors, all called 1005HA. You really WANT the bigger one. You get BluteTooth, you get a 10.5 hour battery instead of this measly 3 cell 4 hour thing, and you also get a real camera (1.3mp, good enough for skype chatting at decent level…the 0.3 that this stripped down model comes with I wouldnt OWN! Thats designed output resolution size smaller than a PDA screen!!! Cellphones have better cameras!)

Yes, I strongly recommend the asus…they make a good machine. Anything with an N270 or 280 really isnt half bad. Unfortunately newer netbookz will all start getting the cheaper slower Z processors…thank you for that INTEL….so if you are planning to do MORE Than email or chat…wanna run some programs…or god forbid MULTITASK, the newer 12 inch netbooks will all be SLOWER! The few already available all have Z processors, and all the future ones are scheduled to. Its a chip thing. Plus the N’s like the 1005ha are ridiculously power efficient…hence the longer battery lyfe.

But a 1005 (or a 1008, less battery, but prettier with covered side ports…if that matters to you)

You cant go wrong with a toshiba either. I liked mine, the keyboard was great, so was the mousepad…samsung also…but you try all 3, and you realizee mostly identical after practice….but the asus has better performance in all the unfelt but measurables. longer battery, beter performance (slightly) bluetooth, Wireless N, its the one. At least for the moment.

This is the laptop for everyone who never wanted a laptop before. It’s small with a very clear screen. The keyboard, though slightly smaller than standard, is a pleasure to use. It worked with my home network instantly.

It comes preloaded with 60 day trials for Norton Internet Security and Microsoft Works. It took a minute or two to upgrade the 1gb of RAM to 2gb (I bought the Crucial 667mhz memory suggested by Amazon).

The 10.5 hour battery is the real deal – I had my unit on for 10 hours and it was still running with just over 10% battery capacity remaining. I’ve had the 1005HA-PU1X for a week now – on and running applications continuously – without a single crash, blue screen, or hangup.
The only complaint I have is that the installed camera doesn’t capture video – or at least doesn’t capture video with the provided driver. I am very pleased with this purchase and feel that this Asus has exceeded my expectations for what a small laptop could do.

Asus работят по нови 12-инчови модели, наименувани Asus Eee 1201N и Asus Eee 1201HA. И двата разполагат с 12.1-инчови дисплеи с резолюция 1366 x 768.

Основната разлика между двата нови модела ще бъде процесорната мощ, обема на харддисковете и количеството RAM. От компанията твърдят, че 6-клетъчната батерия ще им гарантира 8 часа живот при леко натоварване, което съвсем не е зле, взимайки предвид размерите на лаптопите (твърде големи, за да се класифицират като нетбук и твърде “слаби”, за да получат определението ноутбук – да речем, че представляват някакъв интересен мелез). Очаква се новите машини да се появят на пазара на 22-ри октомври – официалната дата за излизането на Windows 7.

Desde el mes de Septiembre soy poseedor de una Netbook Asus Eee PC 1000 ha.

La misma viene en una excelente presentación, en caja cerrada con todos los drivers, manuales de usuario, garantías,CD’s, fuente y hasta una práctica funda de neoprene para su protección.

La netbook, cuenta con una batería de Lit-Ion de 6 celdas y una autonomía (según la propaganda) de 7 horas de duración. Cabe aclarar que esto es con el mínimo de recursos necesarios para su funcionamiento (Wi Fi, Webcam, sonidos desactivados y brillo al mínimo) y hasta la fecha no comprobé esta duración; pero sí puedo asegurar que con todos los recursos encendidos logré una autonomía de 4,5 horas.

Con un disco rígido de 160 Gb, el único defecto es que trae Windows XP (Windows Xtreme Porquería) preinstalado y para registrar, el cual duró en mi Asus exactamente 48 hs. Tiempo que pude disponer para formatear e intalar Ubuntu Netbook Remix -UNR-.

Luego de esta operación (muy sencilla por cierto), pude observar un mejor desempeño, mayor velocidad en el tiempo de encendido/apagado y mejor consumo de batería.

Aquí es conveniente hacer la aclaración que el rubro de Netbooks, fueron concebidas desde un principio, para ser utilizadas con sistemas Linux. Pero siempre nos acechará el lado oscuro; tentandonos al mal y evitando por todos los medios posibles lograr la libertad.

Continuando con este breve análisis, la pantalla de 10″ es una importante mejora frente a otras de su género; todas sus funciones especiales corren a la perfección: Wi-Fi (una excelente placa atheros), tarjeta de memoria MMC-SD, touchpad, etc.

Al cierre de este artículo, un amigo encontró la finalidad de esta tecla: en el sistema operativo de Microsoft, conjuntamente con la tecla de Fn, sirve como un acceso rápido a las tres modalidades de energía con que cuenta (perfomance, normal y powersafe). En los sistemas Linux, pienso que se la puede configurar de igual manera, aclarando que no probé de hacerlo aún.

Da ich fototechnisch momentan leider nicht ausgerüstet bin, leider eine Montage. Ist ja auch Montag…

Übrigens bin ich seit kurzem, wie auf dem Bild zu sehen, Besitzer eines Nebook von Asus, dem Eee PC 1003 HG. Neben dem eingebauten Intel Atom-Processor besitzt es integriertes WLAN und einen SIM-Karten-Slot. So bin ich fast überall über eine Handy-Karte per Flatrate über UMTS-HSDPA mit dem Internet verbunden. So kann ich jetzt jederzeit direkt aus der Wache und von unterwegs von meinem Arbeitsalltag berichten! Oder vom Klo, aus der S-Bahn, vom Fahrrad usw.

This new model has just been spotted in Europe and it’s called the Asus Eee PC 1001HA which is a pretty new model with nothing too interesting inside. It has a 10.1-inch display an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 CPU, and is basically the 1005HA netbook in a different exterior – according to Netbooked. This netbook is expected to start shipping on September 23 for €250 ($368 USD) to €300 ($442 USD) with Windows XP, Linux or no OS.

I’m sure you’re keeping a close eye on the HP Mini 311 netbook with Nvidia Ion graphics. Well, the good news is that it could be available by the end of this month. It’s expected to start shipping on September 23rd – just 3 days away – for $399 USD. It’s just a rumour, so it could be debunked shortly. It looks like Asus could be announcing their first laptop with Nvidia’s Ion graphics. If you check out this online Chinese retailer though, the Asus Eee PC 1201N netbook looks like it will have the power of Ion. This netbook was a part of Asus’ leaked roadmap, so the netbook is likely real. Other specs include: a 12-inch display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB HDD, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, an Ethernet / VGA port, audio jacks, and a 6-cell (5,200 mAh) battery.

We don’t know when it will be available, but it’s likely we’ll see this netbook with Windows 7 on-board, which means at least another month. The product picture could be real, but it could be an existing 1101HA netbook, so just keep that in mind.

Like the Eee PC 1201N another netbook looks to be on the way. This one appears to be a variation of the Eee PC T91 netbook / tablet. The Eee PC T91MT will be sporting a multi-touchscreen display and will likely be available in late October / early November with Windows 7 pre-installed.
