We are gonna start our “Friday Flashback” section with an absolute trance classic! You have all probably hummed it, sang it and, for sure, danced it and, once you’ve listened to it, it’s impossible not to be obsessed by it.

It’s the song that brought ATB his recognition as a solo artist and one of the most famous producers of electronic music. The single was first released in 1998 on and with its release in 1999 on Ministry of Sound it quickly reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart on July 3 of that year. Some of the remixes that were being played at the time of release were those from Signum, Matt Darey and Sequential One.

You can find it on the album called Movin’ Melodies among other great hits like Don’t Stop and Killer 2000 that rocked the dancefloors worldwide.

Starting next Saturday night and continuing through the remainder of December it’ll be a very ‘Retro’ Christmas with three consecutive Christmas hits in a row from Shakin’ Stevens, Band Aid, and José Feliciano. Be sure to not miss the festivity of that as we celebrate the reason for the season.

This week on the ‘Retro’ I’m flashing back a decade ago to 1999 for some cool European trance music. It’s from German DJ / Producer André Tanneberger – better known to his fans worldwide (including myself) as simply ‘ATB‘. In this 1999 European pop and dance smash featuring female vocalist Yolanda Rivera he simply wants us to keep on going – “Don’t Stop”. This song actually enjoyed later success on South Florida radio via the former PARTY-93.1 during August, September, and October 2002. That’s when I discovered it, and danced to it at the clubs in and around Orlando Florida. “DON’T … STOP“:

We’ve been tagged. In late October, some graffiti-doers scrawled “MOE,” “NORE,” “BALL$,” and “ATB” on several buildings on the strip, including CVS at 2226 Wisconsin, the ex-Pizza Hut at 2338 Wisconsin, Glover Park Market at 2411 37th Street, and, cruelly, Rocklands’s “Eat Your Barbeque” mural at 2424 37th Street.

The graffiti does not appear to be gang-related, according to Daniel Hickson, the director of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Intelligence Branch. Rather, it seems to be the work of—or an homage to—a group of prolific taggers called the ATB Crew. Nore was described a “king” of DC graffiti in Clout magazine, and Moe “bombs hard” (i.e., tags a lot) according to an online graffiti discussion board. We couldn’t find any information online about Ball$, but given his nom de crime, he must be very wealthy and courageous indeed.

A citizen reported the graffiti at CVS and Starbucks to the city for removal on November 1, but it had not yet been removed three weeks later—perhaps because the government needs waivers from property owners before taking action. (UPDATE: A DPW team did remove major graffiti from the CVS garage door, the ex Pizza Hut, and other sites on November 16, though smaller tags remained.)

Property owners who want graffiti removed should call 311 directly. [Do-it-yourselfers can try acetone or nail polish remover, though that may also remove any underlying finish.]

I listen to Trance music in so many hours of my days and nights that it’s odd to be in a silent room. A recent project required me to make a logo for a night club, “Club Life”. This name is derived from Tiesto’s radio show in the Netherlands by the same name: “Tiesto’s Club Life”. Trance has been made famous by such artists including Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, David Guetta, Paul van Dyk, Robert Miles, Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, Sander Van Doorn, ATB, Paul Oakenfold, and many more. Club Life is for the trendy, night clubbers with a love for trance and dancing with friends or other lovers of this music style. My life has been pretty crazy lately, to say the least. I’m having to consciously make a major effort to keep some semblance of control so I don’t go crazy along with it…but it’s hard not to feel sometimes like everything is out of my power to fix. So at this point, I’m just trying to accept that, and move on, trusting that somehow, sometime, things are all going to work out.

I got in an accident with my car last week and the estimated damage to it is around $3100~ way beyond my budget as a college student just trying to get by. This, on top of recent issues with someone who I mistakenly cared about who has decided to do everything he can to create drama in my life, has caused me to feel pretty frustrated and sidetracked from the things I actually need to focus on~ school, my own well-being, etc. It feels like everything is happening at once, and it’s too much. I know that I’ll be fine and things will work out, it’s just that right now I can’t see how, exactly. I guess this is when I’m supposed to have faith, but I’m not sure what I have to place faith in right now~ feels like nothing. My family, I guess~ thankfully they’re always there, even though they don’t understand how I continue to get myself into these types of situations. I wish I knew. My friends~ it’s times like these in life that show you who you can really count on, who’s going to be there for you even when things aren’t going well, and I appreciate the people that are more than they could possibly know.

Thank God I’m an optimistic person, otherwise who knows what I would do at this point. I don’t mean to complain constantly, but this blog is my outlet, after all, where I get things down that I’m thinking about, where I work through my thoughts and evaluate how to best move on from things. It’s difficult to think completely clearly when there’s all these things going on consuming my energy and patience…

I start to wonder why anyone would choose to involve themselves in my life right now, when I’m doing all I can to keep myself together and work things out. I’m clearly not at my personal best right now~ far from it, actually, which makes me  feel like I don’t have much to offer anybody. So it’s confusing to think about people being interested in spending time with me, getting to know me better, when all they can possibly be seeing is the whirlwind that’s my life and me trying to deal with it. I get attached to people when I feel that I’m able to trust them, because there are so few people who I trust~ this being said, I’ll try to get over this attachment to avoid dragging them into my own problems or holding them back in any way. If I’m going to do this though, I don’t want to get attached at all~ I would rather it not even happen, if I’m just going to end up being hurt by it~ I’ve had my fair share of hurting at this point, especially the kind of hurt caused by trusting people who don’t deserve it. It’s hard to stop myself from caring though, and I honestly can’t. I can try, I can put up a good front and pretend that I can, but in actuality, I’m just trying to push people away to keep from getting hurt~ especially when I don’t understand why they would even care in the first place. I don’t understand it, and I’m very upfront about my disbelief, but I guess there must be something that I’m missing…and I don’t know what it is, but I’m grateful for it. I want the best for everyone, even if that takes away from my own happiness. But if, for some reason unbeknownst to me, I can work into their time without severely messing things up, I think that’s really amazing…and it would definitely make me happy, too.

At this point I really don’t know how anything is going to work out, or what I’m going to do to fix the things that have been going wrong one right after the other. My friend Betsy told me earlier that “there’s always a way to fix things- you just have to figure out how.” So I’m doing my best to believe that, and I’m going to keep working to figure it all out. There’s no way I’m going to let this all keep me down~ it’s unfortunate that it has to happen, but the same strong-willed attitude that sometimes gets me into predicaments is going to be the same thing that gets me out. Don’t doubt me, because I can’t even let myself doubt anything at this point. If anyone does doubt me however, thank you~ that’s the last little bit of inspiration I need to prove that I can handle all this, just fine.

Recently I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new GI Crosshair hubs from Ground Industries. Aside from looking really good, they are also very light. A whole complete wheel weighs hardly anything. These hubs are strong too. They can hold up to 80 psi. Kody Stewart had them in Kansas and they held up to his riding no problem. Mine are only first batch prototypes so the production ones will look a little different. None the less they are great hubs and really do make your board feel lighter.

I was reading my favorite mountainboarding site www.surfingdirt.com yesterday and I saw that the the biggest name in mountainboarding, the double backflip hucker himself, Akoni Kama. Kama who currently rides for Ground Industries  has also rode for such companies as MBS, Outback, and Earthboard, and in honor of his royal dreadyness Ground Industries will soon release his own pro model. I dont know much about it but Im staying tuned to Surfingdirt for the release of the new 2010 Akoni Kama Pro Model. I will keep you guys informed.

The holiday season is here with its wonderful events and great memories. Family and friends gathering up, wearing customs, buying presents, getting together for thanksgiving…

Actually, I fucking hate the holiday season. I feel more fucked up and left out during the holiday season than any other time in the year. Last year’s holiday season was ok, I spent it with my family, but almost every other year I’ve had shitty holidays. I think this is going to be another shitty holiday for me unless if a christmas miracle happens and that kindda thing only happens to wonderful people who have accepted jesus christ as their personal savior.

Did I mention that I picked up a cold? I was out drinking with a friend this past weekend, and I guess somehow I picked up a cold. Some amazing stuff happened too (shitty stuff), but I’d rather not talk about ‘em.

 yeah, so as if the cold, the headaches, and the runny nose wasn’t enough, I woke up last night with this muscle pain in my neck. I walked around a little bit and went back to bed after a little while. Then, while I was totally asleep, I woke up with this EXTREME pain in my left leg (muscle cramps). I’ve been dealing with these muscle cramps for years. I remember a few months back I had the same exact muscle cramp in the middle of the night, and I was like what the fuck just happened? Did I get bitten by something? a snake perhaps? and I was paralyzed for a few minutes. This time around I managed to get over it fairly quickly, but I can’t still walk normal and my leg feels like it had a “leg attack” and is totally sore.

The amazing thing about these physical pains is that I rather deal with the physical pain than the mental pain… I really do. Unfortunately, when I get sick, I become so fucked up that the mental pain kicks in at the same time and makes me totally miserable. As I’ve said before, mental pain caused by loneliness causes physical pain. Like Adamski, Seal, and ATB said it best… “It’s the loneliness, that’s the killer!”

I knew that he will come back to me in a way or another.
