Mais uma vez aproveitando um bom período de propagação, fiz uma pequena gravação de meia hora da frequencia de 6535 KHz. É o momento de pico na FIR de Dakar e muitos voos chamam em um pequeno espaço de tempo. A estática de uma chuva na Argentina no momento da gravação deixou a mesma um pouco ruidosa, mas a intensidade dos sinais compensa isso. A gravação segue abaixo.

Hi everyone, I am settling in to my new home in Wellington , catching up with old friends, business is slow but I have started writing again and sorting out some manuscripts, plan to bring out another book next year, might self publish it as really can’t be assed in dealing with some of the idiot publishers out there! trying to move forward with the script writing and trying to build some sort of a new life in Wellington, I have joined the ATC as a helper so two nights a week I am going to be with the Air cadets. They all seem a great bunch of kids. still doing the care work as well, and trying to raise money for the air ambulance. so busy busy busy at the moment.

I have noticed that trying to paint something new every day is a little harder for me, when I work with acrylic.

With watercolor, I can sit down to a blank piece of paper & zip something out. With acrylics, I find myself wanting to plan things out, which makes me a little less spontaneous. I think it’s time to do a little organizing in my studio, so I can easily switch from one medium to the next. I want to keep both mediums fresh in my brain, if that’s possible. Any advise on that? I’d love to hear your comments.

Sul blog di SCC, la bravissima Illy, dopo averci mostrato degli spendidi video, da lei realizzati, in cui mostrava quasi mezz’ora di tecniche e creazioni, ha invitato tutte a provare … a buttarsi nel mixed media e provare a far qualcosa.

Io è un mese che giro intorno a questa sfida … o meglio … che giro intorno al mixed media.

Mi piace moltissimo questo modo di fare di arte perchè anche se i materiali “super professional” ci stanno benissimo, si riesce abbastanza bene anche con materiali che si trovano in giro nei negozi di bricolage o fai da te, decisamente più economici e accessibili a chi ha due mutui da pagare

Basta solo un po’ di estro … fantasia e voglia di mettersi in gioco.

Queste Atc sono frutto del mio desiderio di mettermi in gioco e di provare a pasticciare senza stare a seguire grandi regole.

Inoltre ho avuto uno stimolo aggiuntivo … un regalo di compleanno molto speciale … che non è stato un regalo solo materiale … ma anche ‘emozionale’ perchè toccare con mano l’arte di Illy è qualcosa di veramente speciale, nel mio caso di incoraggiante … una spinta a provare.

E così … all’età di 40 anni riprendo in mano una sorta di diario …. fosse un segno?

Il tema della settimana era “Voglia di ….”

Avrei voglia di … serenità … ma non sono riuscita a trovare qualcosa che la rappresentasse … quindi ho optato per “Voglia di … tema libero”  … alla prima immagine carina che ho trovato mi sono fermata e l’ho portata in un’ATC.

La tecnica è sempre la stessa:  image transfer, ritocco con tempere e acrilici con l’aggiunta di qualche timbrata e una farfallina presa dalla bustina che mi ha regalato Letizia.

Approfitto per ringraziare ancora Italy On Sunday  che ha scelto la mia atc della Scarpa “con le bolle” come atc della settimana … grazie grazie grazie …

… sono cose che mi fanno sempre un piacere infinito, mi riempiono di orgoglio e soprattutto sono benzina sul braciere della fiducia in me stessa e nelle mie capacità artistiche …

… sono arrivata alla conclusione che sono una campionessa nel mondo nello buttarmi giù e farmi a pezzi da sola … e questa settimana c’ero riuscita proprio alla grande … ma questa è un altra storia …

A tal proprosito … anche se non vi rispondo una ad una … vi ringrazio per i commenti sempre carini e affettuosi che mi lasciate … li leggo sempre con piacere e, a volte, quando mi viene la voglia di mollare e lasciar perdere perchè vengo colta dal solito pensiero ‘ma che le faccio a fare ttte queste cose?’, me li vado a rileggere e mi ridate sempre tanta fiducia … grazie … una ad una … grazie …

slutligen två ATC´s…

Everyone secretly loves flight simulation. Soaring above (or below) the clouds is a great experience, however it is generated. The iPhone and iPod touch devices, despite their small screens, are great for this sort of activity. The computing and graphics power is quite great and the accelerometer makes it quite hard to crash.

Here are my top flight sims in no particular order… unfortunately none are free, although Lite or Trainer versions might exist or become available…

X-Plane is a simulator that is absolutely physically realistic to the extent that a mobile phone can be. It presents serious options to practise or try out “proper” manoeuvres, including using excellently developed navigation on beautiful aircraft. There are terrain options, other aircraft (occasionally) and challenging runways. It uses the accelerometer to great effect. Multiplayer or not.

F.A.S.T. is an aerial combat game that is, again, very realistic, although less so. There is a social club, a multiplayer mode and an option to fight against enemies in planes with blackout-causing g-force. The satisfaction of this one can be immense – after all, it is designed to be challenging, with a name like “Fleet Air Superiority Training”. If you like missions, this is one for you.

Flight Control is about moving aircraft of various sizes and speeds to their correct helipads and runways. It’s a 2D setup but don’t be fooled – co-ordinating movements of planes of different speeds and requirements is tricky. There are several terrain modes, and the game itself is easy to use. A good value item that interacts with others over Bluetooth, WiFi or even Facebook (although that’s not live). Enjoy dragging aircraft around with your finger, then…

This update has been a little delayed since I was having some computer issues at home and I have been spending my time dealing with that instead of creating blog posts. In spite of that I did manage to finish up a few things, some of which you will see today and another thing I’ll probably post in a week or so.

First off, here are two more attempts at Artist Trading Cards.

Superman and Hulk ATC

While I was straightening up crafty gear on the kitchen table I found that Superman image I cut out a while back to make into a card. The Hulk image came from the leftovers of the Avengers table. I picked up the sky paper for another Superman thing I had planned and decided that would be a nice back ground. I tried something new with the Hulk card and used these square sticky blocks to make the image appear to leap off the page. I increased the number of blocks used as I got closer to the Hulks head. The effect turned out really well.

This Avengers card was made out of more of the Avenger table leftovers.

Originally, I was just going to do something with the Thor image that appears inside the card, but it ended up being too small to be on its own. I think it works well in the interior of the card. The front of the card comes from 2 different pages of the Avengers #2. I liked the contrast of the rain picture with the images of Giant-Man and Wasp on the bottom half.

Alas, I no longer have any of these items.  One when to someone who helped me out on that other project I finished this week, and the rest went to a guy who has been a bit under the weather lately and I thought could use the pick me up.

Uma falha de um sistema de computador está provocando cancelamentos e atrasos em voos por todos os Estados Unidos, nesta quinta-feira, 19, informaram a Administração de Aviação Federal (FAA) e as companhias aéreas. O problema envolveu um sistema de computação que preenche planos de voo automaticamente, forçando os controladores de tráfego a realizarem esse trabalho a mão, o que toma muito mais tempo. Isso produziu um “efeito dominó”, atrasando voos por todo o país, informou em comunicado a Associação nacional de Controladores do Tráfego Aéreo.

Os atrasos começaram na costa leste e, posteriormente, atingiram o oeste do país. As condições no já congestionado corredor nordeste dos EUA estavam ruim, notou a FAA. O problema não afetava os radares nem as comunicações, segundo a administração. O sindicato dos controladores de voo, porém, disse que os sistemas da FAA que fornecem informações sobre clima e o as velocidades do vento em aeroportos também não estavam funcionando.

“Nós estamos tendo um problema no processamento de informação dos planos de voo”, reconheceu a FAA em comunicado. “Nós estamos investigando a causa do problema.”

A Associação Nacional dos Controladores de Tráfego Aéreo afirmou que os sistemas que guiam o tráfego aéreo falharam em Atlanta e em Salt Lake City. Segundo essa associação, esses problemas podem durar horas.

A emissora Fox News informou que o sistema caiu às 5h15 (de Nova York, às 8h15 de Brasília). A extensão do problema ou a duração dos atrasos ainda não eram conhecidas, disse a Fox. Segundo o diário Atlanta Journal-Constitution, quase todos ou mesmo todos os voos do Aeroporto Internacional Hartsfield-Jackson estavam paralisados. Um comunicado do aeroporto de Atlanta informa que há um trabalho para “minimizar o impacto para os consumidores”.

Em agosto de 2008, problemas com uma rede de troca de dados que lida com os planos de voo falhou, causando centenas de atrasos pelo país. Após o incidente, a FAA afirmou que aceleraria os esforços para melhorar esse sistema, que data dos anos 1980.

A FAA também enfrentou problemas em novos sistemas instalados nos últimos anos, incluindo um de telecomunicações, no valor de US$ 2,4 bilhões.

A confiabilidade e a capacidade dos sistemas de computadores que a FAA usam têm sido alvo de preocupação há tempos. Porém problemas técnicos e orçamentários atrapalharam os esforços para modernizar esses sistemas.

Um porta-voz da companhia AirTran informou que às 8h (de Nova York), haviam sido cancelados 22 voos pelo país. Em “dezenas” de outros da companhia, havia atrasos. Ele disse que os a maioria dos cancelamentos estava ligada a Atlanta, mas voos por todo o país foram afetados.

O Aeroporto Internacional O’Hare, de Chicago, informou que às 8h30 (hora local), os voos estavam no horário, mas eram previstos atrasos ao longo do dia. As informações são da Dow Jones.

It was my goal to to get from Norfolk, VA to Madrid, Spain last night. I got on the airplane in Norfolk, and waited 15 minutes on the tarmac because JFK has traffic congestion; even though the weather was fine. The flight was due to leave Norfolk at 540pm, we left at 605pm. The captain said it would only take an hour, so that would still get us to JFK on time. No big deal. Phew.

We landed at JFK ahead of schedule at 705pm. Cool, I thought, I will have an hour to connect to my Madrid flight. Well, thanks to the retarded logistical nightmare operation the airline I flew on has at JFK, we waited for a gate for 50 minutes. Thus, I missed my flight to Spain.

Now, I am stuck in the northeast because of the ATC meltdown this morning. Plus, the weather is bad, so the out dated system can’t handle heavy volume in the bad weather. As a result, I plan to sit here until tomorrow. Good times.

“I don’t remember the last time I wrote in here.”

It seems a fair amount of my blog posts begin with that sentence.  Often times I wonder why I stop writing in here.  There’s always something on my mind and writing is one of my strongest abilities.  Then again, there are other times when I start writing in here because I have nothing to do.

My other blog for my temporary time here at Purdue is completely stale. I could probably write in it until my fingers fell off.  However, if I’m not getting any readership whatsoever, it makes the process a little less fun.

Things are going a little weirdly here in Indiana.  I’ve been doing a lot of thinking (always a problem for me ) and have settled on the fact that I will not be able to afford a full four year service here at Purdue.  If I try to do so I’ll leave here with well over $150,000 in debt.  There are numerous factors besides money that are also leading me to consider dashing out of here with my associate’s degree and numerous pilot ratings and endorsements.

Brady and I have been talking about this to no end.  There isn’t a day that goes by where the subject doesn’t come up, even if only for a few minutes.  He wants to do ATC on the east coast, preferably in the Northeast.  Why?  He loves it back there and he wants me to be near my family.  If there’s a specific part of the U.S. where the vast majority of my family is located, it’s in New England.  Smart boy.  Hehe.

New Hampshire is the state of choice for both of us.  He likes the idea of trying to work for either Manchester Airport or Boston’s Logan Intl.  The possibilities for a job with air traffic control are endless, but the main trick is finding a place that’s actually looking to hire someone.  My reason for liking NH is the fact that it has both mountains AND the ocean, and I have a lot of opportunities myself for either finishing up my schooling or diving right into the aviation world full-time.  All of my connections are back that way and I’m sure I’d have no problem finding a job.

I guess the reason why this idea is coming up is solely based on money (and the limitations of it thereof).  Growing up means making big decisions for yourself, and my biggest one so far was leaving New York behind to come out here.  The next big one might be leaving here and walking down a new road with an inevitable fork in it.  Either way I know I’ve got the support of a ton of people, and that’s what matters the most.

Strange blog posting session aside, I’m going to wrap this up and get back to reading.  Thinking about writing another post sometime later this week on religious tolerance as a result of an experience I had earlier in the week.  Leave it to some people here at Purdue to shove a bible in someone’s face….

Nun gibt es auch wieder neues von mir. Ich habe es geschafft und am Wochenende mal ein paar ATC’s gezaubert. Mit der einen wollte ich mich eigentlich bei Paperminutes beteiligen, aber leider war es mir nicht möglich diese rechtzeitig einzustellen. Aber was soll es hier habt ihr trotzdem was zu schauen:

Bei TMTA wird nach ATC mit den Farben Schwarz-Weiß und Rot gefragt. Das sind zwar nicht unbedingt “meine” Farben, aber ich habe die Herausforderung mal angenommen und mal wieder mit den Motive von Tim Holtz gewerkelt.

Ok, back to business.

Previously, i made several entries regarding my college’s graduation convocation and in the final entry, i stated this

“I think that the best way to protest is to have the whole class boycotting the convocation night and only when we get what we want….” Integrity¹

… and today, i was told that someone actually planned to carry this whole “boycotting” at a large scale inviting people to join in the fray and she did in fact got a few to agree with her. Of course, that didn’t pleased the college’s administrative department and certainly not me. Because of what i posted in my blog and subsequently the act of this student publicly announced that she is going to boycott the convocation ceremony is really making  me look bad because it would seem that i was the troll who asked her or at least inciting a coup d’etat against the college. Not true, i am not a troll and also i didn’t incite anyone.

Just to clarify the whole thing, one line of words will be sufficient, i have absolutely NO idea who this student is and i have made no contact whatsoever with her be it during or not during classes. Therefore, whatever that is doing or going to do, she is doing at her own free will. Well, she could be influenced by others by definitely not me but whatever it is, this is getting violent and out of hand. I mean, ripping somebody’s head off… c`mon, you got to be kidding me.

Moving on…

I believed that i have wronged the college for publishing misleading contents regarding the convocation that is coming up this 8th December 2009. Honestly, i haven’t been fair to the college.

“…Foto Prime’s Graduation Package is RM388.00, for one robe and one photo with NO frame. If you want to have the photo taken that night to be framed, another RM120.00 is to be paid.” Integrity¹
There is no dispute as to the price of the photography package, RM388.00 but there are few things that i need to add. RM388.00 doesn’t only gives you ONE graduation robe and ONE photo without frame as how i was told by one of the Foto Prime staffs when they came over to collect deposits. Clearly, i was misinformed. RM388.00 actually consists of :-

• Robe Rental
• 3 Photos of the Convocation Ceremony(4R, 5R, 8R – waxed)
• 1 Group Photo (12″ – waxed)
• 4 Individual Portraits (1 – 8R; 3 – 4R)
• 4 Copies of the Individual Portrait (passport size)
• 1 CD (contains soft copies of the photos)
• 1 DVD recording of the entire function

Having the items listed down, RM388.00 doesn’t only include ONE robe and ONE photo without frame. I know some of you actually included the RM200.00 as costs giving a total of RM588.00 which is stupid, the RM200.00 is a deposit for the robe rental which will be returned as soon as you returned the robe. I find it reasonable to do so because if people would abscond with your pet cat, why not a robe.

With that being said and done, i have came across too comparisons are being made to BAC in relation to the graduation packages and it turns out that BAC is indeed way cheaper than ATC but not without its costs. BAC is charging only RM150.00 per pax BUT the only thing they have in the package is this :-

• Robe Rental
• 1 Individual Photo On Stage (8R)
• 1 Group Photo (12″)
• High-Tea

You must be wandering now “WOW, RM150.00 for photos and the price is inclusive of food” but of course a distinction has to be made, BAC is offering high tea whereas ATC is organizing a dinner. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that the costs for dinner is relatively higher than of a high tea. Furthermore, the locality has to be taken into account. One is at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and the other, Sime Darby Convention Centre, Bukit Kiara. Really now, tell me the parking rates in Suria KLCC is cheaper than the ones in Solaris, Mont Kiara.

Talking about “Let The Facts Speak For Itself” as what was the album named. Seriously, what facts? What is in tune except for the fact that both are convocation ceremonies.

So, i don’t really think it’s fair to force ATC to subscribe to a price that is quoted for something lower and demand to receive something of a much higher value. Ask yourself people, will your drive a Perodua into a BMW service centre and asked them why is that your car handles differently from a standard E90 320i?

You know, if you don’t complain paying RM120.00 per pax for Jogoya’s buffet dinner, why should RM180.00 this be a problem to you. You get food and on top of that, entertainment. Best of all, this is tax free so no government or service charges -.-

I know i stressed that i won’t be attending the convocation ceremony because on how it was excessively priced but now knowing that the price although is priced above average, it is not without its reasons and to be honest, if i am free on that day itself, i would actually go now but sadly i have agreed to follow my dad to Frankfurt on the 8th and will only be returning on the 11th.

Now go forth, be fruitful and multiply!
