The new ATI graphics card has been  unleashed to the general public this month, but do you think I can get one anywhere? No.

Lets list the places I have tried, Ebuyer, Scan, Overclockers, play, you name it, I have found nowhere in the UK that have access to this card, so if ANYONE has any ideas as to where I can get one then please share the knowledge.

So what’s all the fuss about? well, if this card is anything like its predecessor then it’s going to  be great. I went out and bought a 4870 x 2 the first week it was released and it is still the same card I use to this day, a fantastic piece of kit that has stood the test of time and then some, so if the 5970 is going to perform at least twice as fast then the latest game are going to look outrageously sexy and run as smooth as silky the slick silkworm sleeping in his silk pyjamas.

What’s the cost?

The cheapest I have found so far is ebuyer at a cost of £501.00 but I noticed that this week, they have completely removed the range from their website which is a shame as I had one on pre order  

STOP PRESS: Just found the card on play.com for £480.00 inclusive with free delivery. That’s the price to beat.

So what are Nvidia doing to retaliate?

Good question, I haven’t heard anything of substance yet, if anyone knows then feel free to drop in a comment.

Sebagian besar dari gambar diatas gw ambil dari flickt dan umunya mereka menggunakan proc intel core2,core2quad ato malah core i7. Keren banget dan gw suka apalagi klo udah pake casing “muahall” pula ditambah monitor kelas raksasa juga,berasa menggunakan mac beneran(imac). Proof of concept klo OS X bisa dijalankan di PC biasa belum lagi netbook dell mini inspiron yang sudah diinstall OSX ditambah mac case abal-abal.

Di gambar2 ini umunya graphic card yang digunakan adalah nvidia 9800GT,9800GTX ato 9600GT tapi ada juga kok yang pke ATI cuma gw lupa gambar yang mana,klo ga salah di setting dual monitor juga. dia pake ATI 2600pro sama yang XT truz ga lupa seri mainstreamnya ATI yaitu 4850 yang dulu hampir gw beli sebelum akhirnya memilih geforce 9600 GT So pengguna ATI Card tidak perlu khawatir desktopnya ato laptopnya ga bisa di hackintosh kan karena beberapa produk apple juga mengunakan chip grafis dari ATI seperti iMac series dari Macbook pro jadul.

The AMD ATI Radeon HD 5970 graphics card combines two Cypress GPUs in one large – and powerful – package. Although hot and power-hungry, the AMD ATI Radeon HD 5970 graphics card can easily surpass the competition in most circumstances, making it a must-have for any hardcore gamer.

AMD’s previous Cypress GPU graphics card, the ATI Radeon HD 5870, definitely impressed us. However, looking at what two of these processors are capable of instils us with a sense of awe. The AMD ATI Radeon HD 5970 uses 4.3 billion 40nm transistors and for a total processing power of 4.64 teraflops. The two cores run at a standard clock speed of 725MHz each, and are accompanied by 2GB of GDDR5 memory running at 1000MHz – 4 gigabits per second of bandwidth.
All of this means the graphics card isn’t frugal when it comes to power consumption. While it consumes a reasonable 42 Watts when idle, the ATI Radeon HD 5970 reaches a whopping 294W at maximum power; that’s 114W more than the single-GPU ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card. The card is compatible with CrossFire multi-card configurations, though you’ll need a minimum 1000W power supply to even consider running more than one card in the same PC.
The AMD ATI Radeon HD 5970 measures 317mm from end to end, making it a stretch for most ATX cases; it wouldn’t even fit into an Antec Skeleton enclosure. Like the ATI Radeon HD 5870, this graphics card has an all-encasing shroud with just one fan to cool both GPUs. It manages to keep things cool at 47 degrees provided the processors are idle. Put the card under pressure, though, and temperatures shoot to 77 degrees, even in open-air setups.
The video card is compatible with DirectX 11, which is slowly gaining traction with the release of games like DiRT 2. The AMD ATI Radeon HD 5970 is also compatible with AMD’s ATI Eyefinity technology, which scales performance across multiple monitors. Technically, the technology can support up to six monitors per GPU, or 12 displays for the ATI Radeon HD 5970. However, most initial versions of the graphics card will have two DVI ports and a mini DisplayPort, so it will only output to three monitors simultaneously without extra adaptors.
You’ll be able to use the card’s grunt for more than just games, thanks to AMD’s ATI Stream technology. Like NVIDIA’s CUDA architecture, ATI Stream offloads processing power from the PC’s CPU to the graphics card, which can potentially speed things up. The technology is still quite young, but can be handy in applications that utilise OpenCL or DirectCompute, as well specifically optimised software like CyberLink PowerDirector.
We ran our benchmarks tests on a Vista 64-bit machine running an Intel Core i7 965, 6GB of DDR3 RAM and a Western Digital VelociRaptor (WD3000GLFS) hard drive, installed in an Antec Skeleton case.
Though the AMD ATI Radeon HD 5970 graphics card can’t claim the ultimate performance crown in Futuremark’s synthetic benchmarks, it’s undeniably faster when it comes to real-world gaming. Not only is Crysis playable at high resolutions (for once), but other DirectX 10 games like Far Cry 2, Lost Planet and Call of Juarez are miles ahead of the competition.
Given that these results were delivered at stock speeds, the graphics card’s potential when overclocked is certainly astounding. AMD even encourages aftermarket overclocking by bundling the ATI Overvolt utility, which allows you to directly change GPU and memory voltages without limits. For the inexperienced, the driver’s ATI Overdrive utility has an auto-tune option to overclock your graphics card with fewer risks. In either case, however, AMD’s warranty won’t replace your card if it accidentally catches on fire

I can’t believe it’s been a month already since my videocard died!  Time can pass so quickly sometimes.  At the same time, it’s been a somewhat painful wait because the videocard I still want (XFX Radeon 5850) is extremely scarce.  Occasionally Newegg or some other shop has a few in stock, but at a greatly inflated price.  Currently, the 5850’s are going for $310 or more.  A month ago, I placed a preorder on Amazon for $260 and I’m sure the price is going to keep rising.  I could spend the extra $50+, but I keep hoping that Amazon is going to flex their muscle and finally get some product.

I’m growing extremely impatient with ATI/AMD for doing such a bad job supplying the market with their latest cards.  It’s probable that the factories are having a hard time producing the new GPU, the Cypress.  With such a low supply, big computer makers get the highest priority, which doesn’t leave much for the enthusiast market.  In addition, the far more expensive 5870 is basically using the same components as the 5850.  The 5870 is also in high demand and sold out everywhere, so ATI is going to focus on making and selling the 5870’s which should have a bigger profit margin.

ATI’s newest generation of videocards completely spanks nVidia’s current offerings.  Unfortunately, nVidia is having a lot of problems, which means it’s likely they won’t provide any real competition for a while.

The Radeon 5770’s are in and out of stock, selling for around $180.  I’m tempted to just give up and buy it, but I’ve waited a month already, so I figured I might as well wait a bit longer.

I’m doing quite fine with gaming since I have my gaming laptop (Gateway P-7811FX) and my Xbox 360. It’s also a much needed break from playing MMORPG’s.  I spent several hundred hours playing Champions Online and Aion in September and October and I’m definitely burned out.

เล่าอาการที่เคยเจอกับตัวเองก่อนนะ

ปัญหาของผมคือผมได้โหลด driver (9-9_beta_win7_64_dd_CC.exe 94.2MB) มาแล้ว ก็กดติดตั้ง (รอบแรกกดธรรมดาและพอไม่ได้เรื่องเลย run as administrator)

มันก็ติดตั้งปกติอ่านะ แต่พอติดตั้งเสร็จไม่มี icon ขึ้นทางขวาล่างนะครับ เข้าไปดูที่ control panel ก็ไม่มี คลิกขวาที่ Desktop เลือกก็ไม่มี เลยงงๆ นะครับ เหมือนกับว่าผมไม่ได้ทำการติดตั้ง (ดูใน All program ก็ไม่มีด้วย) แต่ใน add/remove program นั้นมีให้ uninstall ออกได้ นั้นแสดงว่าเราติดตั้งสมบูรณ์แล้ว

สาเหตุที่แท้จริงคือ

ตัว driver ATI เองตะหากที่มีปัญหา *-* (ตอนแรกเราก็ไม่เคยคิดเลยว่า driver จะมีปัญหาติดตั้งไม่สมบูรณ์ ไม่เคยได้ยินเลย ยิ่งเป็น ATI เจ้าใหญ่ในวงการด้วย ทำให้เราคิดไปต่างๆ นาๆ ว่าปัญหาเกิดจากไหน ตัว window บ้าง ลงผิด driver บ้าง)

วิธีแก้

ส่วนวิธีดทำนั้นตามนี้เลยครับ

1: Download MSXML 6.0 from Microsoft. (Default in Vista) – Install.

2: Make sure UAC control in Vista is turned off. If you don’t know how to do this then read this guide (method 4 is the easiest) or click the “disable UAC” in Mobility Modder.net – please note you MUST reboot after disabling UAC. If you don’t want it disabled permanently, you can turn it back on after our mobility tool has finished, but it won’t mod the drivers correctly with UAC ON.

Sony stawia na najwyższą wydajność. Zamiast z Tegry od NVIDII, Sony PSP 2 ma korzystać z bardzo wydajnego procesora grafiki PowerVR SGX543 (generacja o nazwie Series 5XT). GPU tej samej firmy, należącej do Imagination Technologies, ma trafić do PlayStation 4.

W nowej konsoli Sony ma znaleźć się procesor PowerVR szóstej generacji (Series 6), na który producent konsoli ma całkowitą wyłączność. Oznacza to, że nowy GPU, w przeciwieństwie do poprzedników będzie dostępny tylko dla jednego odbiorcy. Dotychczasowe procesory grafiki PowerVR były sprzedawane w postaci licencji, i obecnie znajdują się w bardzo dużej ilości telefonów komórkowych, i nie tylko.

Zgodnie z umową prace nad nowym GPU PowerVR ma zakończyć do 2012 roku. Wtedy Sony planuje też uruchomić sprzedaż PlayStation 4.

PowerVR Series 6, dzięki technologii renderowania kafelkowego oraz między innymi zaawansowanym technikom oszczędzającym obciążenie podsystemu pamięci RAM, ma zapewniać nawet pięciokrotnie wyższą wydajność, przy porównaniu z procesorami grafiki ATI i NVIDII, o zbliżonej powierzchni rdzenia oraz cenie.

Nowa generacja GPU PowerVR ma zostać oficjalnie zapowiedziana w przyszłym roku, wraz z pierwszymi modelami, które przeznaczone mają być dla netbooków oraz smartfonów.

12 lat temu legendarna firma 3dfx miała przygotować procesor grafiki dla konsoli Sega Dreamcast. Ostatecznie jednak z architekturą 3dfx wygrała PowerVR Series 2, w postaci układu NEC CLX2.

I o to mamy kolejną dwurdzeniową kartę graficznę od ATI.  Po jeszcze nie tak dawnym debiucie Radeonów HD 5850 i 5870 na świat przychodzi kolejne “dziecko” Radeona, czyli HD 5970. No właśnie skąd się wzięło w nazwie te 59 ? Karta ATI nie jest typowym 5870 x2, ani 5850 x2.  Inżynierowie zaprojektowali kartę z GPU HD 5870 oraz taktowaniami HD 5850. Hmm… posunięcie bardzo podobne do tego co zrobiła Nvidia. Tworząc swoje monstrum, czyli GTX-a 295. Kanapka dwóch GTX 285 z taktowaniami GTX 260.  Wraz z debiutem HD 5970 to właśnie ta karta może się poszczycić mianem karty najwydajniejszej. Pytanie tylko jak długa będzie trwała jej dominacja…

Hemlock (ang. choina) został wyposażony w tak samo jak HD 5870 w 1600 jednostek SP, 32 ROP-y i 80 TMU. Oczywiście karta jest wyposażona w dwa rdzenie, dlatego te wartości musimy mnożyć razy dwa. Karta na pierwszy rzut oka powala. Jej rozmiary są iście olbrzymie, a wykonanie perfekcyjne.  Rozłożenie elementów jest przemyślane w niesamowity sposób. Można by się tak długo zachwycać nad pięknem jej kondensatorów, rezystorów i innych elementów, ale jedno trzeba przyznać inżynierom należą się owacje na stojąco. Kolejnym atutem jest programowa zmiana napięcia GPU i RAM to też na pewno gratka dla osób chcących diabelsko podkręcić swoją kartę.  Drugą sprawą jeśli chodzi o nowego Radeona i jego wykonanie to układ chłodzenia. Na śledziu zamontowano wyloty powietrza, a całą kartę schładza ogromny radiator i umieszczony po prawej strony karty wentylator ATI.

Karta po pierwszych testach wypada bardzo dobrze. Po podkręceniu wyprzedza SLI z GTX-ów 295 ! To jest szok. Dzięki OC HD 5970 dostajemy 20-sto % zysk wydajności za darmo. Wydajność takiej karty wystarczy nam na kilka lat dodatkowo na wysokich rozdzielczościach. Niestety przypadłością kart dwurdzeniowych są mikroprzycięcia. Wg. wielu testów HD 5970 nie jest kartą z którą pozbędziemy się tego typu zjawiska.  Na szczęście wydajność karty wyklucza problemy nawet przy wysokich rozdzielczościach. Ciekawą sprawą jest jakość generowanego hałasu oraz temp. karty. Karta w przeciwieństwie do Cypress-ów generuje spory hałas. W wielu testach przekraczał on 55 db w stresie. Są to wartości naprawdę duże i mogą odstraszyć potencjalnych cicho-wielbicieli. Temp. karty myślę, że nie zaskoczyły. Karta nagrzewa się po podniesionych napięciach do 90 C. Oczywiście wentylator wtedy znacznie przyspiesza swoją pracę.

Ostatnią sprawą, którą poruszę w tym artykule będzie pobór mocy Hemlocka. Karta mimo 40 nm konstrukcji wcale nie zachwyca w tej materii. Pobór mocy całego zestawu z HD 5970 kształtuje się na poziomie 390 W. Mimo 40 nm jest nie wiele mniej oszczędny od GTX-a 295, który pobiera na 55 nm GPU 420 W.  Wiadomo, że ten co ma sprzęt za kilka tysięcy nie będzie patrzył ile mu karta pobiera mocy, a szkoda ponoć mieliśmy pomagać ekologii…

Czas na podsumowanie.

Radeon HD 5970 od listopada 2009 może się szczycić mianem najwydajniejszej karty graficznej na rynku. Czy wprowadził coś nowego ? Niestety, ale nie dla zwykłego użytkownika jest to kolejny behemot rzucony dla najbogatszej loży odbiorców. Karta dodatkowo była na siłę uciskana pod poziom 300 W w TDP co przyczyniło się do ograniczenia taktów z HD 5850. Również jeśli chodzi o mikroprzycięcia i generowany hałas sprawa nie wygląda najlepiej. Na szczęście na te wszystkie problemy zasłonę kładzie wydajność i Bogu dzięki !

W ostatnich dniach pojawiła się nowa wersja maleńkiego programu do spraw diagnostycznych karty graficznej. Wersja wprowadza obsługę kart GT 240 oraz nowej potężnej dwurdzeniowej karty- Radeon HD 5970. W programie zostały dodane również nowe funkcje takie jak: CUDA, PhysX, OpenCL i DirectX Compute.

Warto tu pogratulować techpowerowi za rozwijanie programu w przeciwieństwie do Rivy Tuner.

ATI is on a roll. There is no doubting it or denying the fact that the boys in red have managed to hammer a successive number of nails into NVIDIA’s DX11 aspirations by being first to market with not one but a whole series of brand new, segment-leading DX11 cards. The HD 5800-series was first on the scene and proved that these new cards could compete with the best of the best from the previous generation and then some. However, in many people’s opinions, there was one thing missing: ATI firmly marking their turf by laying claim to the fastest graphics card in the world. That’s where the HD 5970 2GB comes into the picture.

At its most basic, the new HD 5970 is a dual GPU card that makes use of an on-board PLX bridge chip to handle the communication between the two cores. Each GPU core is able to address a whopping 1GB of GDDR5 memory which will hopefully make the bandwidth issues of the HD5800-series of cards a thing of the past. From a pure performance standpoint, this card’s potential is simply out of this world.

We all remember the HD 4870 X2 and the older yet no less significant HD 3870 X2 dual GPU cards so some of you may be wondering where the “X2” moniker went. Well, ATI has decided to do away with old naming conventions for one reason or another and believe it or not, we welcome this change. It cements the HD 5900-series as the current high performance cards in ATI’s lineup while keeping a clear distinction between all of their product ranges.

In this review we will be looking something unique: a pre-overclocked ATI card being released right alongside the reference-clocked version. That’s right, at launch there will be two different HD 5970 cards being released by the likes of Sapphire, XFX and other ATI board partners: one with standard speeds and another with some increased performance potential. Along with this somewhat shocking revelation, there are several other things that make the HD 5970 a cut above but we will go into those a bit later in this review.

Our introduction wouldn’t be complete without some speculation about the HD 5970’s pricing and availability and on both fronts, it isn’t pretty. We should be looking at an initial “launch” price of about $600USD or $675CAD which will make it the most expensive card on the market by a long shot. However, this price is likely to skyrocket in the days following launch since we hear it will be be next to impossible to find. The retailers we have spoken to are all expecting less than 10 cards in total at launch which makes this a paper launch that we are sure will be passed off as a hard launch.

With NVIDIA’s Fermi cards firmly behind the iron curtain somewhere in Santa Clara, ATI has a clear path to complete market domination with their HD 5970. Let’s hope they make the most out of it.
