I truly appreciate the security precautions that exist, especially with regards to terrorism. That

I truly appreciate the security precautions that exist, especially with regards to terrorism. That word alone was not in my vocabulary growing up and it can be hard to fathom this is the world we live in now. However, knowing that there are many in the world who work to protect our freedom and our security is a welcome relief to the fear.

The one issue that I have had in recent years is the reactive nature we have. Every time a terrorist does something on an airplane, TSA mandates rules and regulations to combat the very thing that almost happened. Reactive. So far, I have not seen that the terrorists repeat themselves very often, at least from what we hear. Each time an attack has been thwarted, it has been a novel way. I don’t applaud this. I am in fact terrified each time something happens and it is something not tried before. Again, that I am aware of. And again, TSA reacts today indicating that on international flights, no one get up for anything the last hour. If a plane has to circle due to heavy traffic or other reasons, how would this be regulated?

I realize that much happens that is not talked about. That many planned attacks are stopped before they come to fruition. I am truly thankful for the talents of others who do this and am not criticizing this. What I ask is how we can be more proactive? How can we look at ways to prevent terrorists? In this recent instance, the underwear bomber’s father called the US Embassy in Yemen and warned them about his son. This information was ignored despite his son having a US Visa. Despite his purchase of a $3000 plane ticket in cash. Despite his boarding a plane without checking any luggage. Instead he was put on a list and not the no-fly list either. This was preventable.

U.S. official addmits security fail Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, a Nigerian man with ties to Al Qaeda

U.S. official addmits security fail

Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, a Nigerian man with ties to Al Qaeda Islamic militants in Yemen, is alleged to have smuggled explosives onto a U.S.-bound Northwest Jet flight in an unsuccessful attempt to blow it up. If the passenger on the plane hadn’t reacted, 300 people would have been killed. The American government admitted on Monday that the air travel security had failed to do its job.

The family of the suspected terrorist accused said Monday it had told authorities and government officials about his odd behavior. They hoped that authorities would intervene, but the authorities didn’t do enough. People wonder why the government hasn’t learned its lesson after 9/11, 7/7 and the Madrid bombings, but they fail to realize that it’s not that simple.

A strict measure that can be taken to prevent all attacks before the departure of the flight is simple: racial profiling. Doing so would improve security greatly for all of us and bring ease to our mind that has not existed since September of 2001. The problem? People’s rights. Not only is it unconstitutional, but it would have the United Nations involved to prevent such measures. There is one way to do improve security without, per say, going against the constitution.

Having all passengers chipped one week before liftoff and removing it after landing would greatly improve security. That one week they could be tracked by the government on everything they do and everyone they visit. The government should have the authority to use such power if the chip recognizes that the person is on any watch list. The chip should change colours depending on if the person in question is recognized (for example yellow if on 1 watch list, orange if on two, etc.) Also, airline security should implement full body x-ray machines. Although very controversial, the security it would bring is undeniable.

And now, this. What will they think of next?

Federal authorities on Saturday (December 26th) charged a 23-year-old Nigerian man with trying to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas Day, and officials said the suspect told them he had obtained explosive chemicals (about 80 grams of PETN, an explosive that’s similar to nitro-glycerin) and a syringe that were sewn into his underwear from a bomb expert in Yemen associated with Al Qaeda.

Nice. And all our efforts in the lingerie industry have been focussed on a strapless design that is to hold the breasts and the buttocks (literally and figuratively) by having the moulds shaped like hands.

Hmmm… looks like Paris has been waaaaaaayyyyyyy behind in terms of usability? I didn’t know that Al Qaeda was considering launching a Fall-Winter line.

Full story here

After the shoe bomb attempt, we all had to start taking off our shoes at the screening line. Can you imagine what the security checks will be with the discovery of the underwear bomb? Are we going to start walking through the detector in our birthday suits now?

By Jastin Bell What happens in migraines? Migraine symptoms vary in people. While most people experi

By Jastin Bell

What happens in migraines?

Migraine symptoms vary in people. While most people experience migraine without auras some may have migraines with auras. In migraine with auras, patients get a warning sign 30 minutes before a migraine headache develops. When facing an aura, the patient normally witnesses sparkling flashes of light, blind spots, or distortions. Some also experience tingling or “pins-and-needles” sensation in their hands, arms, or face. However rare, some people also experience language and speech problems. In most cases though, the migraine pain begins within 30 minutes of seeing an aura. The moderate to severe migraine headache lasts from 4 to 72 hours. Other symptoms that you may experience during a migraine are extreme sensitivity to light, noise, and smells, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite and fatigue, numbness, tingling, or weakness.

Can I prevent migraines?

There is no cure for migraine and hence the best way to treat chronic migraine is to prevent its occurrence. To prevent a migraine attack you need to recognize migraine triggers by keeping a headache diary and making efforts to avoid or alter these triggers. People who have frequent migraine attacks are recommended to take daily medications to reduce the severity or frequency of migraine attacks. Making certain lifestyle changes is another way of preventing migraines, in addition to taking appropriate sleep for scheduled number of hours, regular fixed meals and exercise; avoiding stress and caffeine; and limiting alcohol. Meditation and relaxation therapies may also help prevent migraine headaches.

What medicine will I need to take?

Medications are often used to prevent migraine attacks or to provide relief to patients facing migraine symptoms. The choice of drugs for migraine treatment depends on the type of migraine a person is suffering from. Usually the doctors begin treatment with mild non-prescription drugs to relieve the symptoms. Patients with severe migraine pains are given stronger prescription drugs. Some of the commonly used drugs to stop a migraine attack include NSAIDs, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, triptans (serotonin receptor agonists), midrin, anti-nausea drugs and ergotamine derivatives, such as Cafergot. To prevent migraine attacks doctor may recommend beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, antidepressants or anticonvulsants that are approved by the FDA. Migraine medicine should only be taken on a doctor’s advice. Chronic use of migraine pain medications may result in rebound headache and hence should be avoided.

To reduce dependency on medicines and also to avoid their side effects, many migraine patients are taking help of drug-free alternative treatment options such as Cefaly electro-therapy device. Cefaly emits gentle electric pulses to alleviate pain. Regular use of Cefaly is known to reduce severity and frequency of migraine headaches. Ask your doctor, if you to can benefit from Cefaly; this will provide relief from disabling migraine attacks.

By Dr. Chad Audi

There have been some very disturbing stories in the news recently about attacks on the homeless. In some cases, this senseless brutality has resulted in deaths. And just as disturbing is the fact that many of the incidents involve young people. For example, two Michigan teens — both 15 years old — were recently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the beating death of two homeless men. They were only14 years old when the attacks took place, and police say the beating may have been part of a gang initiation.

This type of behavior demonstrates an utter disrespect for human life and particularly the most vulnerable members of our society. And sadly, this is happening across the country. Statistics show violence against the nation’s homeless is soaring and the majority of attackers are teens and young adults. The National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty report that of the more than 142 unprovoked attacks on homeless people in 2007, the most — at least 32 — took place in Florida. In fact, the problem is so bad that homeless agencies in Florida have teamed up with schools to develop a curriculum that teaches respect for the homeless.

As we celebrate this joyous holiday season, there’s no better time to remind our young people how precious life is and to teach them about the importance of “Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all Men.” Homeless people are people too. It doesn’t matter what journey a person has taken through life; everyone is deserving of love and respect. We are all equal in God’s eyes.

Oranges have always been a staple in the country was in the Mediterranean. They are also an importan

Oranges have always been a staple in the country was in the Mediterranean. They are also an important role in protecting the people of this region of heart disease. So if you've never thought of oranges as a "must" food for the heart, here are some good reasons to start with it:

Oranges and vitamin C

Oranges are very rich in vitamin C. This vitamin in our body has the following effects:

Protects the arteries by free radicals, highly damaging moleculesthat cause our cells to oxidize.

Prevents the oxidation of cholesterol, oxidized cholesterol sticks to artery walls, creating plaque. The plate is large enough to block the flow of blood in our blood vessels, causing a heart attack or stroke.

It helps to recycle vitamin E, one of the most powerful antioxidants, the first line of defense when it comes to oxidation of the cells.

Oranges and folate

Oranges are naturally rich in folate, orFolic acid, a B vitamin A role of folic acid is the amino acid homocysteine in the process of the body. When folate is lacking, homocysteine is not degraded, accumulates in our blood vessels and becomes toxic even in small quantities. The accumulation of homocysteine in the blood can cause a heart attack even in people who have adequate cholesterol levels.

Oranges and Minerals

Sodium. Oranges are very low in sodium. When we eat foods that contain a large amountSodium (salt) we retain a large amount of fluid in our blood vessels must be moved around the heart. The result is that we end up with high blood pressure.

Potassium. Oranges are rich in potassium, a mineral that plays a key role in heart function and muscle contractions, making it an important nutrient for a healthy heart. Works with sodium to regulate the water balance of the body. Reducing diets low in sodium and potassium in high blood pressure, reducing the risk ofStrokes.

Football. Oranges contain a good amount of calcium, a mineral that requires the utmost importance for maintaining normal blood pressure, is for nerve transmission and regulation of the contraction of heart muscle. Many studies have shown that increased consumption of foods high in calcium decreases the risk of high blood pressure, especially if you maintain an adequate intake of magnesium.

Magnesium. Oranges are also rich in magnesium, this mineral is necessary for morethan 300 biochemical reactions in the body. Since adequate amounts of magnesium in the body helps your heart maintain a steady rhythm and normal blood pressure.

Oranges and phytochemicals
The word "phyto" means "plant" in greek. Phytochemicals are nonnutritive chemicals found in plant foods that protect their host plants from infections and microbial invasions. Through research, we learned that phytochemicals are also crucial in protecting against the disease in humans. Some phytochemicalsis found in oranges:

Flavonones, anthoctanins, hydroxycinnamic acids, polyphenols. These phytochemicals are one large family of protective antioxidants commonly found in foods that are rich in vitamin C seen in the body to fight inflammation and prevent them from free radicals, not of blood platelets to be together for some molecules that block the pressure blood increase and strengthen the small blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients to body cells.

Hesperidin. In animals, the hesperidin has flavononeshas been shown to reduce high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and strong anti-inflammatory properties. This component is in the peel and inner white pulp orange. To reap the full benefits of oranges, grate a tablespoon of the peel and use it to flavor tea, salads, yogurt, cereals and soups.

Oranges and Fiber

An orange contains about 3 grams of fiber, 60 percent of soluble and insoluble fibers 40 percent. Both types are important to our health, but solubleFiber is one that lowers cholesterol. Pectin, the soluble fiber, which helps especially in the skin around each orange section and in the bowl, trap and eliminate cholesterol from the body. Try a little 'of the white part of orange peel to eat, which contains half the supply of fruit pectin.

Supplements of vitamin C

Vitamin C does not reach the champions of our body what fresh oranges to make an effort to get your vitamins from fresh foods. However, if youDecides to continue to supplements of vitamin C, you should consider the following:

No more than 2 grams of vitamin C per day, because more than if the body needs in quantity, can become a pro-oxidant.

If treatment with high doses of vitamin C preparations work together, do not listen to all the sudden, do it gradually to avoid a deficiency.

Vitamin C supplements are dangerous for people with iron overload because it enhances the absorption of iron deposits and iron by the body.Free iron in the body causes the kind of cellular damage from free radicals.

Concluding Remarks

I hope that now you are convinced it is necessary to avoid the oranges in your daily life or control, including heart disease. Remember, one orange one days keeps heart attacks away.

An orange contains all the vitamin C your body needs for the day. If you have a farmers' market in your area, a visit to local farmers and look for organic fresh oranges. They aredelicious!

Note

Oranges contain some oxalic acid and should be reduced with calcium oxalate stones l '.

Although many people around the world to proclaim the health benefits following a diet plan that aut

Although many people around the world to proclaim the health benefits following a diet plan that authentic Mediterranean to the heart to prevent heart attacks, there is still some uncertainty about what is on this diet. And partly because in times of different dietary plans are presented to us as an authentic Mediterranean diet in disguise, when the reality is that they do very little.

But before reading this article, I Want the following question: How many times a week to respond, you have to eat the meat and how often you eat vegetables? If the scale tilts to the flesh, you're not following a Mediterranean diet authentic, but a diet with excess protein, which might not be in good health.

The following 10 points are intended to help prevent further confusion lead, while the foundations of one of the healthiest diets, the Mediterranean atmosphere> Diet.

1. Do not miss breakfast and a snack in the afternoon.
Research conducted around the world demonstrates that skipping meals, morning and afternoon results in our bodies become slower and try to compensate for food has received.

2. E 'possible to eat a healthy snack and balance.
If you have snacks that come in bags, opt sensitive to the quality and portions. If you've ever felt addicted to it, for aHandful of walnuts, boiled potatoes with herbs, vegetable sticks with yogurt ….

3. Do not eat meat too.
Studies by many groups around the world have shown that excess meat consumption in Western societies for all other foods. The result is that we are taking in many cases, excess protein, which might not be in good health.

4. Eat fish almost every day.
Fish is rich in protein, vitamins and minerals such as iron, phosphorus, iodine, all necessary for the proper functioning of our body. Fish also contains omega-3 fatty acids, the right kind of fat for the heart and brain. Make at least two times per week of fatty fish like salmon, tuna, sardines and mackerel. Prepare the fish grilled or baked, never fried.

5. Dry beans three or four times a week.
The idea that legumes can increase weight for years, in circulation. This is not true. Of course, if you prepare pulses with fatty meats like sausage, itsCalories are increasing. However, only give an idea, a spoonful of cooked lentils, about 20 grams, has only 39 calories.

6. The jewel of the Mediterranean: olive oil.
Avoid saturated fats and trans fats. Use olive oil as the main source of fat, and cook and as a dressing for the salad. Olive oil does not stick to the arteries and many antioxidants like vitamin E, for the health of our cells. Use extra virgin olive oil, never the refined varieties. Tryeat no more than 3 teaspoons a day, finally, there is grease and oil, like all fats, helps with 9 calories per gram

7. Include a bit 'before each meal.
They recommended the consumption of fruit and vegetables daily note. We know that even a minimum of 5 units per day is the way to the antioxidants, which can hold our bodies stay young, with fewer heart problems and with exceptional resistance to disease.

8. Herbs to taste.
Use the cooking of Mediterranean herbs: rosemary, basil, bay leaves, thyme, saffron, oregano, coriander or your meal. You can replace salt for flavor, while helping with vitamins and minerals important for good health.

9. Nuts take high-quality nutrients.
A study by PREDIMED says that people who are nuts in a Mediterranean diet is easier to win than people who do not have to accept in their diet and have fewer cardiovascular problems. Exactly the opposite of what most people think.

10. Cereals and potatoes.
Cereals such as wheat, rye, oats, rice and potatoes are important pillars of the Mediterranean diet, and we have to eat every day. Try to welcome them as a side dish with other foods high in calories. Buy whole grain products, because their fibers not only cleans the intestines, but the percentage of soluble fiber helps lower> Cholesterol.

Last thought
The Mediterranean diet has been proven true by scientific research have heart health benefits, such as preventing heart attacks. This diet is a synergy of health and principles, even if every component of this diet is a series of advantages for themselves, is the combination of all is that this diet is not so powerful.
Symptoms cholesterol

It is surprising to learn that virtually no symptoms to diagnose if you have high cholesterol. High cholesterol is determined usually by a blood test.

However, if you have health problems such as coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease or stroke are, then this could be the endDue to the high levels of cholesterol in the body.

• Moving voice and difficult to understand

• numbness of the face, arm or leg

•This may be a sudden event with little or no warning

People who are overweight, and no movement at all are usually those with high cholesterol levels.

Therefore, you should have a blood cholesterol test every three years, if you are overweight, and every 5 years if you are a normal healthy body weight.

How to lower cholesterol

If the blood test shows that cholesterol levels are too high, then you shouldimmediate action to help reduce cholesterol. Your doctor will recommend the best way, but at first is the norm for you to follow a diet low in cholesterol.

A diet with low cholesterol level is usually a diet low in saturated fat and eat: —

• Poultry without skin

• lean meat

• Fish and Seafood

• Low-fat dairy products

• Fruit

• Vegetables

• Whole Food

Cook yourFood carried by two

• Barbecue

• Baking

• Steam

• Kitchen

Introduction Interest in a Mediterranean diet, as the ideal food for the heart with its high content

Introduction
Interest in a Mediterranean diet, as the ideal food for the heart with its high content of omega-3 fatty acids from fish has increased massively in recent years after it was observed that people live longer in regions bordering the Mediterranean Sea and suffer fewer heart attacks published. In particular, a Mediterranean diet that includes fish for a long time with a low rate of heart disease in countries such as Spain, Greece put together, and in Italy.

But ifThis diet may not be patients who have already suffered a heart attack, not yet exploited the depth before trial GISSI tested. That was the goal of GISSI to study the effects of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E on cardiovascular events, after the people had a heart attack.

Who is the GISSI study group?
GISSI, an Italian group for the study of survival of heart attack (myocardial infarction) is an influential research group founded as cardiologyThe cooperation between the two Italian organizations – the Mario Negri Institute and the National Association of Hospital Cardiologists (ANMCO). The tests, which have received wide recognition from GISSI the international world of cardiology and methodical as a reference point. Four major clinical trials over the past 20 years (GISSI 1, GISSI 2, GISSI 3, GISSI Prevention) have involved more than 60,000 patients with acute myocardial infarction.

GISSIStudio
From October 1993 to September 1995, 11,324 patients were enrolled in the GISSI study. To qualify as participants for the study, patients must have survived a recent heart attack has been added (less than three months before the study). Patients were randomized to four treatment groups:

Group 1 – Patients received 1 g of fish oil with 85% eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA and docosahexaenoic acid, DHA.
Group 2 – Patients received 300 mg of vitaminComplementary to E, a synthetic-tocopherol.
Group 3 – Patients received a combination of omega-3 and Vitamin E
Group 4 – patients in the control group received no treatment

The results were very significant for the dietary supplement of omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil. Treatment with omega-3 led to a 45% reduction in the risk of a sudden heart attack, a 30% decrease in cardiovascular mortality and a 20% reduction in overall mortality. According to researchers, vitaminAnd they were not beneficial supplements have on the heart attack.

Marchioli, senior author of the study, reported that people who were in a Mediterranean style diet, more vegetables, fruits, fish, a little butter, followed included less likely that people who consume high amounts of butter, cheese, death reported and vegetable oils other than olive oil.

Similar benefits of the Mediterranean diet earlier, smaller randomized trials seen. In the Lyon Diet Heart Study,Benefits were observed among patients who had a heart attack assigned to a diet rich in [alpha]-linolenic acid, ALA, from plant sources, with lots of vegetables, cereals, fruits and vegetables. Compared to those similar to a "prudent" diet, like the American Heart Association Step 1 diet, the Mediterranean-style diet had a 70% reduction in deaths, repeat heart attack, unstable angina, stroke, associated with heart or blood clots .

Where to find EPAand DHA?
Long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are the richest in fish and seafood, especially fatty fish like salmon, rainbow trout, tuna, mackerel, herring and sardines. All the seafood has a number of EPA and DHA. Fish oil capsules are a rich source of EPA and DHA, too.

How much omega-3 fatty acids have to take you?
100 grams (3.5 ounces) of salmon provide 5,000 mg of EPA and DHA, followed by tuna and trout, with about 2300 mg 1470 mg. Other fish high inOmega-3 fatty acids are sardines, mackerel and sardines.

You must take each day to help 1,1-1,4 grams. A portion of oily fish such needs.

For people who already have heart disease, fish and seafood to eat more often or consume marine omega-3 fatty acids on food supplements, it is equally important. If you have already suffered a heart attack, you can add your host fish with a good quality fish oil supplement.

Where plants and fish omega-3 fatty acids are created equal?
No,Omega-3 fatty acids in terrestrial plants, such as nuts or what is found in fortified foods, which are ALA. Terrestrial plants have only ALA. The omega-3 has some but not all, of the health benefits of fish oil omega-3 fatty acids linked. It can also be converted in the body of small amounts of EPA and DHA, but the people this conversion very poorly, less than 5%, so relying only on omega-3 ALA for all risks of a lack of EPA and DHA all in

And rememberthat …
Our body does not produce omega-3 fatty acids or insufficient support for a healthy diet for the heart to prevent heart attacks. Therefore, must be taken from our diet.
