Great public concerts this weekend at Folk College

This is the 7th annual Folk College weekend in Huntingdon! Come and experience some of the best folk music has to offer, ranging from traditional Irish to world renowned Mark O’Connor, Spanish percussion and contemporary interpretations of traditional music.
Concerts are held on Friday and Saturday evenings, May 25 and 26 in Rosenberger Auditorium on the Juniata College Campus, starting at 7 pm. Tickets are available atthe door, $10 for HCAC members, $12 for all others.

VIDEO: Duo to perform free show of Irish music in America at Stoughton Library

Traditional Irish music will be coming to the Stoughton Public Library from 2-3 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011. The award-winning duo of Atwater-Donnelly, a husband-wife group from Rhode Island, will perform this free show with the theme of Irish Music in America. Aubrey Atwater, an accomplished musician, singer and step-dancer, and her husband, Elwood Donnelly, also a multi-instrumentalist, play to packed houses throughout New England, performing traditional music as well as some originals.

In addition to Irish folk music, the duo also performs traditional American tunes, along with poetry and some original songs. Together they play an array of instruments, including mountain dulcimer, to tin whistle, old-time banjo, mandolin, harmonica, guitar and limberjack (wooden lap puppets).

This Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, the trio of Aubrey Atwater, Elwood Donnelly and Cathy Clasper-Torch returns to the Rose Garden Coffeehouse in Mansfield, bringing a blend of beautiful harmonies, a wealth of instruments and even a touch of dance. In the afternoon, the trio will perform for children at a Cocoahouse concert in Norton.

The wife-husband team of Atwater-Donnelly have played all over New England and often pack their concerts. They have a loyal following that enjoys the variety of traditional music and their highly skilled musicianship on guitar, banjo, dulcimer and others. Add to the mix Clasper-Torch’s fiery fiddle and wonderful harmonies, and it’s a potent mixture. And we haven’t even talked about Atwater’s traditional stepdancing, which adds a whole new dimension to the show:

The show will be held at 8 p.m. at the Rose Garden Coffeehouse. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. For tickets and information, visit the web site.

On the afternoon of the show, the trio will present a special “Cocoahouse Concert” just for the kids at The Children’s Studio in Norton. The Cocoahouse Concert will be held from 1:30 pm until 3 pm. Free cocoa and cookies will be served to everyone attending. The Children’s Studio website has full information about this, including how to get tickets.
