Forget about Black Friday; I’m calling this Saturday and Sunday “Green Weekend,” because of Dublin’s many seasonal events and selection of unique holiday gifts.

The annual Chili Cook-off is today in Historic Dublin from noon to 4 p.m. For $5, you can sample nine Dublin residents’ recipes at La Chatelaine, J. Liu, and the Dublin Village Tavern. Vote for your favorite, and the top three will compete in the finals, 4:15 at La Chatelaine.

From 10 to 3, all three Dublin high schools are coming together at Sisters Sweet Shoppe (also in Historic Dublin) to auction off homemade gingerbread houses. The proceeds benefit the Ohio State School for the Blind’s Marching Band, which is performing in the Rose Bowl parade on New Year’s Day. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the season in Dublin.

As for holiday shopping, check out these locally owned stores!

mpg321 is a command-line mp3 player. Why & when to use it? * On old computers * If your GUI stop

mpg321 is a command-line mp3 player.

Why & when to use it?
* On old computers
* If your GUI stops working and you need some music while you are solving the problem
* Play music from your server
* Learn command line and practice it
* For fun

How to install it on Ubuntu?:
Open the Terminal (Applications → Accessories → Terminal) and type the following command:

sudo apt-get install mpg321

Key in Y and press Enter when you’re asked to install other required packages.

How to use?
Access the help menu:
Open the Terminal (Applications → Accessories → Terminal) and type the following command:

mpg321 --help

You will get a list of codes which you can use with mpg321.

--verbose or -v Increase verbosity
--quiet or -q Quiet mode (no title or boilerplate)
--gain N or -g N Set gain (audio volume) to N (0-100)
--skip N or -k N Skip N frames into the file
--verbose or -v Be more verbose in playing files
-o dt Set output devicetype to dt
[esd,alsa(09),arts,sun,oss]
--audiodevice N or -a N Use N for audio-out
--stdout or -s Use stdout for audio-out
--au N Use au file N for output
--cdr N Use wave file N for output
--wav N or -w N Use wave file N for output
--test or -t Test only; do no audio output
--list N or -@ N Use playlist N as list of MP3 files
--random or -Z Play files randomly until interrupted
--shuffle or -z Shuffle list of files before playing
-R Use remote control interface
--aggressive Try to get higher priority
--help or --longhelp Print this help screen
--version or -V Print version information

Example:

mpg321 -q filename

This code allows you to play a song without any details.

mpg321 -v filename

This code allows you to play a song with information of the file.

Of course it would be ridiculous to play music one by one file so we have to create playlists:

Open the Terminal (Applications → Accessories → Terminal) and type the following command:

(Find the location of your mp3 files by the command dir, cd, and cd...)
dir : Shows a list of all the files available in that directory
cd folder: Goes to folder directory (Replace folder with the name of a folder that you want to access)
cd.. Goes to previous directory

Example: Your music is located in /home/yourusername/Music so you should type cd /home/yourusername/Music

Then, create a playlist of all songs in this folder:

ls *.mp3 > playlist.txt

or create a playlist based on artist(Example abz)

ls | grep abz > abzplaylist.txt

*Tips: Replace abz with the artist name

To play the playlist:

mpg321 --list playlist.txt

Play it randomly:
*Little shuffle mode (Plays every file once in a random order)

mpg321 -z --list playlist.txt

*Big shuffle mode (Plays a random file and then plays another random file. mpg321 will go on until you stop it.)

mpg321 -Z *

notify-send "Reproduciendo" "%s" -i audacious2

y con eso esta listo.

Audacious y Notify-OSD

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/osd-lyrics/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/osd-lyrics/ppa/ubuntu karmic main

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:osd-lyrics/ppa

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install osdlyrics

The ravenous rapture of repulsive, disgusting raindrops that were soaked in the clouds of infamy prior to their journey down to earth is all I can perceive from where I float above and within the fog of their collective minds. Audacious as it may seem, pride is the driving force behind their insignificant thoughts and visions of grandeur. What could possibly motivate us to collectively follow the moanings and groanings of those who preceed us? Perhaps the question is actually rhetorical in nature, or perhaps not. Some things are not for the knowing, but only for legendary calculations. Bonafide as they may be, things below and things above seem trivial by comparison. Of course, comparison is but a foreshadowing of things that were but may never be again. And things that may never be again only serve to discourage those who ironically were planted there to encourage the rest of us. And these stages of necessary encouragement always seem to follow the same pattern:

1) Abundance. 2) Desire for more. 3) Over-abundance. 4) Wilderness. 5) The edge of nowhere.

So here we stand at the edge of nowhere, yet desiring more. Perplexed, mortified, paralyzed and morose individuals are useless in such an undesireable frame of reference. Neither from the vantage point of the plains nor the high places have given any relief in our attempt to recount the journey thus far. The prior inhabitants set the boundaries and everyone who follows is powerless to change them within the depths of their minds. A schism results from such shenanigans and all who read of it can only stand by, helplessly, powerless, pathetically forlorn in the midst of the shapeless thorns and thistles. ”It’s never been done before”, they whisper. “Therefore it can never be done again for the first time”, again in a whisper, but this time with their eyes darting to and fro as the western sky becomes darker and darker.

With no conscience, it is neither right nor wrong. With no law, there is no lawbreaker. With no artist, there is no art. The ability to distinguish between the inner self of conclusions and the outer being of distinct principles and/or ideas has long since departed the valleys of multiple indecisions. Choose now or choose never are the only remaining options beyond the reach of their disposal. Obviously, with a new found sense of identity, neither inheritance was intended to reproduce in such a frivilous manner. But, who knew?

I was using xmms as the music player in my ubuntu 8.04 box. Recently I heard about a plugin in audacious using which we make the now running song as the pidgin user status/comment. So I switched to it. But when I tried to play any audio files with it, it doesn’t play.

After running audacious in terminal, I got these messages.

$ audacious

** (audacious:19958): WARNING **: Failed to connect to server: Connection refused
MADPlug-Message: failed to open audio output: XMMS reverse compatibility output plugin

After seeing the XMMS, in the output, I thought it is due to the presence of the old XMMS in the system. So i uninstalled it. Still the problem persists…..

I googled the complaint and at last I understood the problem is due to the missing of pulseaudio. Audacious generally uses pulseaudio as the default audio device.

It is very simple to cover this problem.

Open audacious.

Press Ctrl+p to open the preference window.

Move to the audio tab.

Change the Current Output plugin from PulseAudio Output Plugin to ALSA Output Plugin.

Close the preference window.

Now onwards audacious will play without any errors.

In July 2009 3 members of the club joined a group of divers on the Loyal Watcher for a week of trimi

In July 2009 3 members of the club joined a group of divers on the Loyal Watcher for a week of trimix diving around the northern coast of Ireland. The plan for the week was to dive the “classics”, that is the Justicia, HMS Audacious, Emprire Heritage and the Laurentic along with one or two others thrown in for good measure.

Loyal Watcher

Once the crew had all arrived in Ayr and loaded the boat we left for a long overnight crossing to Loch Swilly. This would be our base for the week, assuming the weather was with us and we wouldn’t have to make a run for home earlier than planned. Sunday was to be our first day of diving and our target was the HMS Audacious, the first major warship casualty of WWI and an absolutely enormous wreck. Realistically (without a scooter) you can’t get round this wreck in a single dive as it is almost 600 ft long and at a depth of 65m, so the plan was to tie the shotline in at the stern then for us to swim for as long as possible before turning back to ascend the shotline and decompress on the deco station.

Arriving on site I got out of my bunk to find the weather was good with flat seas and a bit of sun and the water was the dark blue/black colour that suggests good visibility. After sorting a small rebreather problem just before I was about to kit up I was finally ready to jump in. On getting to the shot line and starting my descent I could see the visibility was excellent with the monstrous propellers looming into view in about 40-45m. Once my eyes had adjusted the viz on the bottom was over 20m – just spectacular. The stern of the ship is upside down so the props stick out allowing divers to swim around them. After having a look round here I started heading forward following the line of the ship along the starboard side to try and get to the guns, but there is so much to see on this wreck that I decided to just take my time and not rush. After trying to bag myself a nice little pressure gauge I carried on heading forward and finally got to the gun turrates, just as it was time to turn and start heading back to the shot line. They are a magnificent site with munitions lying scattered all over the place, unfortunately I just didn’t have time for a really good look around.

Heading back down the port side towards the stern I bumped into some of the other divers and before long came to the shot and started an uneventful ascent.

Monday’s dive was to be the Justicia, a wreck I had been wanting to dive for a very long time. She was one of the largest ships sunk in the great war at 32500 tons and make for a very special dive. Again the visibility was excellent as we descended to the bows where the shot was tied in. The bow section is very intact with the winch gear and capstans in place on the foredeck and anchors still in place. Even the railings at the very tip of the bow still in situ! She slopes back towards the 70m seabed before breaking into a flatter area. Here portholes lay around and the fireman’s tunnel is accessible. I had a good mooch about looking for artefacts but was mostly breathtaken by the size. Swimming back off the bow for this view is one of the highlights of my diving career. This is another wreck that is too big to get round in a single dive unless you have a scooter so I concentrated on the bow area and after an all-too-short bottom time started my ascent.

Decompressing after diving the Justicia. The magazine makes the deco fly by!

As always seems to be the way with UK diving trips the weather was to play its part. We were blown out on the Tuesday and Wednesday meaning that we missed diving the Laurentic and making a return trip to look at the middle section of the Justicia.

Thursday came and the weather had brightened so we made the trip out to the Empire Heritage, a WWII transport ship that at the time of it’s loss was carrying a cargo of Sherman tanks. I was first in on this dive so was tasked with tying in the shot. We had got used to the good viz by now (20m+ again…) and so after tying in took off to explore. The tanks are scattered about like toys and are remarkably intact. For me this was probably the best dive of the trip. There is just so much to see – tanks, engine, props etc and it is a more “doable” size than the Justicia or Audacious. We swam forward zig-zagging between tanks and ship machinery for about 10 minutes before turning back past the shotline to have a look round the engine and head to the stern to have a look at the props. Time went far too quickly again and it was time to ascend. Most of the other divers were only just hitting the wreck, so Rick and I had the shot to ourselves. At about 15m I noticed some movement just on the edge of the visibility, swimming about 2om away was the very obvious sillouette of a shark!!! I shouted through my mouthepiece to Rick who was a metre or two below be and pointed it out. I thought he had missed it until it swam in to have a look at us. It was a Blue Shark about 3m long and it swam between us, close enough to touch – quite amazing and a fantastic end to one of the best dives I’ve even done.

Post dive we started the trip back home. We tied up in Ballycastle overnight and on Friday dived a wreck in the Clyde called the Empire Adventurer in about 60m. Viz was only about 4m and the wreck was large, but that’s about all I could tell you. We had been spoilt with the viz on the 3 previous dives, so this one was a bit of a make-weight before returning to Ayr.

This week gave me 3 of the best dives I have ever done and should certainly be on every divers “must do” list. The dives are deep, but the rewards for making the effort are out of this world.

Listo problema solucionado. A escuchar los mp3.
