Maryada Ramanna, which started shooting in mid-September has begun it’s second shooting schedule in Hyderabad. The film, starring Sunil and Solani Aswani, is directed by S S Rajamouli and produced by Sobha Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni under the Arka Media Works banner.

After the big-budget fantasy epic Magadheera, Rajamouli wanted to tackle a lighter project and settled on this historical comedy.

The basic storyline was provided by Mullapudi Vara and it was developed into a complete script by Kanchi. According to my sources, the title character Maryada Ramanna is the heroine’s father. As far as the supporting cast goes, Brahmanandam has been roped in to play a pivotal role. Heroine Saloni Aswani, who was previously seen in Maa Voori Lo and Chukkallo Chandrudu, is making her Telugu comeback with this film. Incidentally, Saloni did an item song in Magadheera.

SS Rajamouli said: “The film Maryada Ramanna is a comedy thriller and is set in the backdrop of Rayalaseema. Sunil is apt for this film and he playing a serious role for the first time in this movie. There is also a plenty of scope for comedy in this film. We are mainly focusing on Rayalaseema hospitality in this flick.”

Producer Shobu Yarlagadda said: “This is our first movie on our Arka Media Works banner. We made several serials TV serials in the past. There are 5 songs in the film. Nagineedu (of Prasad Labs) and Brahmanandam are playing key roles in the film.” Arka Media Works is the same banner that’s producing Allu Arjun’s Vedam.

Sunil said “After Andala Ramudu, I listened to many stories but was not impressed. But I was very excited after listening to this script. It is a fabulous story and mine is a challenging role. I was supposed to do a film with Rajamouli under this banner long ago but the time has come now for us to work together.”

As for the rest of the crew: M M Keeravani is composing the music, Shyam K Naidu is handling the camera, Kanchi wrote the script based on Mullapudi Vara’s story, Ravinder is overseeing the Art and Rama Rajamouli is in charge of the costumes. Originally, Chota K Naidu was hired for the cinematography, but due to scheduling conflicts with NTR Jr’s upcoming Adurs, he was replaced with Shyam K Naidu.

Currently, the audio release for Maryada Ramanna is scheduled for December, and the film release is slated for Sankranthi 2010.

I have been noticing a disturbing trend off late in music release functions—in most cases the music director is sidelined or not there! It is a MUSIC RELEASE function and the focus is always on the actors or the guests and never on the person responsible for the event, the music director (along with the producer/director of course!). It is very irritating to see even articles sometimes covering music launches but there is no mention of who the music composer of the movie is. The problem I believe is that today producers/directors believe that music is just an add-on for the movie and not an integral part of it.
Only directors like Maniratnam, Shankar, Karu Palaniappan, Gautam Menon, Aditya Chopra etc. have been promoting the music with some keen interest and passion. Most others consider it as just another part of a movie, when actually it is not. If the music of a movie is done well with care then everybody would realize that it acts as the best promotional tool for any movie and the songs are on everybody’s lips before the movie releases! Case in point is Vaaranam Aayiram. This will do wonders to the movie’s publicity. This is the reason we find generally the songs in the movies of the above mentioned directors to be excellent and they add to the overall beauty of the movie. I just pray that this disturbing trend ends soon and music directors get their due.

The Himalayan Rock Album ‘Dreamers on the Road’ by GottaGo, the Trans-Himalayan Rock group – carries with it the emblem of many firsts. It is the first full fledged English Album, under standard norms, from the Himalayan zone. This Rock Album has been the only one from North eastern India to have received the offer for an international release through BMG Germany by Pan Music @ CBS Records Mumbai in 1996. It is also the first time that the studios in Kathmandu did a full length English project.Though, eventually this debut album was released by Santana Records, Nepal in 1998; ever since, it has been steadily winning music loving hearts world-wide.

Perhaps, inspired by the ethereal beauty of Kanchenjunga the Darjeeling based rock artist M. C. Rana who is the lyricist, singer and front-man of the super-group GottaGo composed classics like “Welcome to Darjeeling” and “Don’t fade Away”. The unique music video of “Don’t Fade Away” is another first in the Western music scenario of the Himalayas.

The album consists of ten songs which range from medium hard rock to soft ballads, not devoid of ethnic touches. Each of the songs are original, thought, provoking and unique in their own right.

Just as the original “Naomi’s Song” is based on the life and philosophy of the great Japanese expeditioner – Naomi Uemura who went missing in the Arctic blizzards, the song, “Oh sister” brings back pictures of the horrid human tragedy in the light of the ethnic violence in Sri Lanka in the 80’s.

The heart rending title song “Dreamers on the Road” is very realistic and relevant in terms of the dreams, aspirations, sorrows and hopes of the youth of today. “Rock India Tonight” is a milestone in the history of Indian Rock. Not to forget the mention that the title and concept of “Lonesome soul” was offered by Mercie Hmar of North East. Each of the artist involved in this album are legends in their respective fields. Anup Dass, formerly of the super-group “1974 A. D.” has worked on the keyboards. Bass guitar is played by Mahendra Lama and Lead guitar by the legend – Deepak Thapa, both of the famous group “Prism” of Kathmandu. Drums programming in eight of the songs has been done by Deepak Thapa while programming for “Welcome to Darjeeling” and “Naomi’s Song” have been done by Favindra Rai and Kumar Singh respectively. Except “Welcome to Darjeeling” which was done at Sangam Studio, Kathmandu, rest of the songs were recorded and mixed at Namaste Studio, Kathmandu in Alesis-adal 24 tracks.

The recordist involved are Hem Bista and Dhanpal Gurung. Photography by Raj bhai Suwal. The band name “GottaGo” originated in the studios of Kathmandu when the artistes involved in the album decided to go ahead with the project in spite of acute time and money constraints.

Bhram is an album done by two aspiring musicians Shadeo and Dawa from Darjeeling. Its an excellently done album with a mix of Rock, Pop, Blues and some jazz elements. Guitars are exclusively composed and arranged and the vocals has a superb throaty characteristic. An overall excellent Nepali album for the western influenced folks. Shadeo is of The Reincarnation fame and Dawa is an aspiring vocalist and lyricists. I found much earthiness in Dawa’s vocal and that is fantastic. The duo has courageous experimented with different genres and have been successful. The music composition is brilliant.

The super stylish photos of Rajinikanth in Kuselan which is released to the media is making huge waves on the internet. Now the latest update is that the Audio will hit the market on July 1st. All the songs are said to be rocking to go with the super image of superstar Rajinikanth.

Nayantara also looks like a million bucks in all the photo stills released. Jointly produced by Kavithalaya and Seven Arts in Tamil, the complete shooting of the movie has been completed by Vasu within 82 days.

Big Music, an Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group( ADAG) company obtained the Kuselan audio for a record price of Rs 2.25 crore. Rajini’s Kuselan has five songs — Daler Mehendi, Shankar Mahadevan, Kailash Kher, Shreya Ghoshal and Hariharan have rendered their voice for Kuselan.
