The funniest things happen when you leave your kids alone.  Here are 3 separate incidents that happened today.

1)  I left the kids to play by themselves while I did some stuff upstairs.  They seemed to be playing nicely until I heard Marcus’ angry-man crying fit.  I assumed he either was frustrated at not being able to do something, or that Audrey wasn’t sharing her toys with him.  Being the presumptuous mom that I am, I was ready to give a reprimand, until I heard Audrey sighing.  She had a Starbucks napkin in hand and said, “Mom, I’m trying to wipe Marcus’ nose.”  She was so discouraged at Marcus’ reaction to her helping him that she sighed, gave me the schloppy snot napkin and said, “Mom, can YOU do it, please?”

Oh, Auj.  The snot must have been crazy because she KNOWS how much Marcus hates getting his nose wiped.  Brave soul, that girl.  Kind of reminiscent of this, no?  What would Marcus do without the Auj?

2)  After that, I brought Marcus upstairs to play while I finished my stuff.  He was exploring in his room and in our room and crawling back and forth.  There was a stack of really big books that we took off the shelves to use for trapping some wildlife that came into our house AGAIN (surprise, surprise).  Apparently, he was interested in his dad’s book collection because he was quiet for a long time.  And when I went to check on him, he was intently reading one of the big books he picked out.  Move over Brown Bear and Goodnight Moon, it’s Expository Preaching for our boy now!

3)  Marcus had a hard time settling down to nap today, so I went into his room and we ended up napping together while Audrey had her rest time.  After she played with her beads and read books and did who knows what else, she decided that she needed something else to do.  All of a sudden, I heard her tap Mike’s drumsticks in the air and yell, “A one, a two, a three for five!”  Then she performed the loudest drum solo on every different kind of box, toy, and drum.  That was then followed by, “I AM A ROCKSTAR!!!”

She sure knows how to have fun…even if it’s all by herself!

Hier heb ik me al jaren op verheugd. Sinterklaas vind ik zelf het leukste feest van jaar. Ik zit me dan ook al enkele jaren te verheugen op het jaar dat mijn kinderen het gaan snappen. Eindelijk is het dan zover. Al een week voordat de goede oude man in Nederland aan zou komen, deelde Pim het ons al mee:’Sinterklaas komt!’ Waarschijnlijk heeft hij op het kinderdagverblijf iets opgevangen, want de naam van mijn idool was hier in huis nog niet eens gevallen (voor zover ik weet). Na het eerste Sinterklaas-journaal was Pim ook helemaal enthousiast:’Sinterklaas komt! Pim ook cadeaus hebben!’

Afgelopen zaterdag bezochten de familie Koning het mooie Achterhoekse Eibergen. Samen met mijn moeder, zus, zwager en nichtjes begroetten we daar de bijna jarige job.Ik vond het best spannend. Hoe zou Pim het vinden? De taken waren al snel verdeeld. Johan en ik zorgden voor het foto- en filmgebeuren en ondertussen bekommerde oma zich over Pim. En als ze dat doet, dan weet je zeker dat het goed komt. Oma ontpopte zich als een ware ijsbreker en baande zich samen met Pim met gemak door de mensenmassa. Johan en ik hadden moeite om haar bij te houden. Dit had wel tot gevolg dat Pim overal met zijn neusje vooraan kwam en dus goed zicht had. Een mooie bijkomstigheid was, dat hij helemaal niet bang bleek te zijn voor het spektakel en de mooi uitgedoste mensen. Hij genoot van alle kunsten, muziek en nieuwe indrukken.  En ik genoot omdat ik door Pim, de wereld weer door zijn ogen bekeek.

’s Avonds mocht Pim natuurlijk zijn en Femkes schoen zetten. Hij zong op zijn best:’Sinterklaasje, bonne, bonne, bonne.’Dat werd natuurlijk beloond met een heerlijke chocolade-Sint. Femke had een choco-Piet gekregen. Natuurlijk mag Pim die opeten !

Suppose I should go to bed instead of staying up. It’s after midnight. I fell asleep in this chair earlier tonight and now I can’t sleep. Go fucking figure.

I’m coughing and hacking and not feeling any better. I went to the doctor on Tuesday but he didn’t help me any. Just said to ride it out basically. This means I’ll probably still feel like crap two weeks from now and have to go back again at which point he’ll decide it was an infection and prescribe antibiotics. How much ya wanna bet? Grrr.

Tomorrow morning I’m meeting with Emma’s teacher for our conference. Billy will be home but I’ll have to bring Audrey in case she gets hungry. You never know with her. I only have two tiny bags of milk in the freezer and she hasn’t had a bottle yet. Suppose I could leave her but I’m scared to do that.

I’m worried about Emma. She’s so moody and angry lately. I feel like I barely see her. She’s off all next week though. I would love to be able to do stuff with just her but I can’t because Billy will be working. The girls will fight and it will be a rough three days. Then he’s off for Thanksgiving for only the second year ever. This is because work is slow and his hours will be cut severely starting next week.

My stomach stays in knots about this. I even thought about going to apply for WIC. Briefly thought about this because I think I’d die of embarrassment and we’re not that bad off that we can’t buy our own milk and cheese.

MIL gave me a good chunk of money for these pictures I bought of the girls the other day. I lied to her about the amount though. She wanted to give us half but I felt bad taking her money. They were pricey but I haven’t done them professionally in several years. They were these antique sepia pictures. I’ll have to take a picture of one to post here. Can’t find the damn cord to my scanner.

I was thinking earlier today that when Audrey gets a bit older maybe I can do some sewing type crafty thing here from home and sell it either online or to locals. Not sure what I’d make yet. Oh, and I’ve been using those cloth diapers. It cuts down on expense. They’re not perfect but with the waterproof covers over them they keep her dry and clean and work just fine for around the house. I have more than enough of ‘em. So I could always make diapers, baby slings, mei tais (a fancy carrier) I guess or I could make curtains. People are picky though so I don’t know.

I am making Audrey a little soft cloth book for Christmas. I’m downsizing our gifts to the girls big time. Audrey won’t remember being two months old. I’m just going to get her stuff she needs. I got Emma a Fancy Nancy doll and I’m going to get her some more books to go with it and I’m not sure what else. Yesterday Cate said she wants Strawberry Shortcake toys but that girl’s mind changes with the wind so I’ll wait a bit I think.

We are having Thanksgiving dinner here next Thursday and the in-laws are gracing us with their presence now that the grandfather has passed on. This is a first. Billy wants to deep fry the turkey and MIL offered to make ALL of the fixings but her food sucks compared to mine so I’d rather she didn’t. I told her to do the mashed potatoes. You can’t fuck those up, right? She’s insisting on making a few other things but I’d like to make some food, too so she can’t pull the martyr card and bitch about her lazy DIL to her friends. Ha ha ha.

I really hope this day and this weekend is better than the past few days. I feel myself sinking and wanting to isolate myself but if I do it would be bad so I force myself out into the world. Times like this I really wish *I* had a mother. I mean I do, right, but she doesn’t count since she’s basically non-existant in my life and has been for six years.

Audrey had her one month check up yesterday – 10 lbs 2 oz now and she’s 22 inches. She’s grown 2 lbs and 2″ in just 5 short weeks. He said she’s healthy and doing great and no shots till next month. Woo hoo!

I got a picture of my girls tonight looking beautiful as ever.

The second half of my weekend of awesome shows brought me to the Hartland Performing Arts Center once again. Originally, The Morning Of was supposed to headline, but they had to drop due to illness in the band. The show was still a lot of fun though.

Unfortunately, I was running late and missed the first two acts, Paper Wings (myspace.com/paperwingsacoustic) and Giraffe Attack (myspace.com/giraffeattackmi), but I heard both were a lot of fun.

The first band I caught was Audrey (myspace.com/audreymichigan). Again, the band played a really great set. They had a lot more space then the last time I caught them at Mac’s Bar and it allowed them to move around a lot more. The energy was super high on everyone’s part; they are always a treat to watch. They did have a few flubs, notably Shawn having some problems with his bass, but the set was altogether solid and as always a lot of fun for both band and audience.

Next was Ender (myspace.com/endermi), one of my favorite Michigan acts and one of the ones that got me into going to shows on a regular basis. The three-piece plays surprisingly fast paced indie rock. The highlight of their show for me is always their drummer, Schyler Binkley. He has more energy and raw talent than most drummers I’ve ever seen and uses every aspect of his set, including a lot of playing on the rims. It’s very cool and very unique. I like that they have started doing more harmonizing between their bassist and guitarist which is giving their sound a really mature, dynamic sound. This band has all the talent to make it; they just need to catch a break. Be sure to check them out first chance you get.

A Letter to You (myspace.com/alettertoyou) was next. Coming off their recent EP release, the band is really riding a high right now. I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect much from this group. Everything I’ve heard told me that they were just generic pop music, but they really blew me away. They are all very talented musicians and lead singer Drew has a very strong voice, even though he said he was feeling really ill. They had some trouble with their samples, but that was largely due to the fact that they weren’t using their normal drummer as he was out of town. They still played a really great set though and did a nice job of getting the crowd into it. Definitely worth seeing again.

Then it was Drawback to Discourse, a relatively new pop punk band in the Livingston County scene. They were unfortunately without a singer as he apparently bailed on them to go out to Pennsylvania at the last minute. They didn’t have time to organize how to do the vocal parts, so instead the band just played instrumentally. They had a ton of energy and were all having a great time which helped the crowd to as well. They mixed in elements of hardcore for a more unique sound. I can’t wait to see what this band will do once they get their lineup and organization together. Stay tuned on them for sure.

And finally, Tiger! Tiger! (myspace.com/tigertiger) played a surprise set. The show they had booked apparently got canceled, so the band was added onto the bill last minute. Their set was much the same to the one they played the night before, but they didn’t have any major problems this time, so it ran much smoother. Nick also seemed to have a lot higher energy. Unfortunately, he announced this would be his last show though. Not much else to say besides another solid set from a solid band. They’re slowing down for the rest of the year as they search for a new bassist and are going to be having a lot going on in the new year, so be excited.

That’s it for this weekend. Saturday’s show had much of the same community feel as the Apathetic Critic show from the night before and it was really good to see how the scene came together this weekend. Lots of fun was had by everyone in attendance and there were good vibes abound. Everyone seems really tight in the area right now, and I’m really glad.

Friday the 13th celebrated Olivia’s 25th birthday (again) aka End of Season, lol, and also the going away party for Nick Chaney aka Massive Clearance, as he’s moving back to New Zealand.

One of the coolest parts of the night was signing Nick’s Adidas and also the Jenga blocks. I think the blocks were Rachel’s idea. Great memories! Happy Birthday to Ola and Til Next Time, Nick!

Femke is dan nog wel geen 3 maanden, maar daar valt dit bezoek aan het consultatiebureau wel onder. Oké ik weet het… ik loop gigantisch achter met het schrijven van mijn logjes. Is het hebben van een peuter van twee-en-een-half en een baby (waarmee we intensief oefenen met een fles) een goed excuus hiervoor? In mijn spaarzame vrije momentjes (kids zijn nu allebei op het kinderdagverblijf) probeer ik mijn achterstand in te halen. Dit bezoekje was dus al op 9 november…

Eigenlijk kan ik vrij kort zijn. Ons meiske heeft al wel voor 3 maanden gegroeid. Ze is 62 centimeter lang en weegt ondertussen 6590 gram. Alles zit lekker op de bovenlijn van de gemiddelde statistieken, maar met ouders als Johan en mijzelf verwacht je ook geen klein poppetje. Het belangrijkste is dat alles goed in verhouding groeit. Verder zag ze er ook prima uit en waren de lichamelijke onderzoeken (nek, hart, huid, ogen e.d.) ook prima. Ze loenst wel, maar dat mag nog op deze leeftijd. En ach… het zit in de familie. Ik loenste ook (nog steeds wel wat als ik moe ben) en haar broer Pim had het ook! De prikjes vond ze natuurlijk weer niet geweldig. Na afloop vertelde ze dit ook op een jammerende toon tegen de arts.

Natuurlijk kwam de fles ook nog ter sprake. Oefenen, oefenen, oefenen was het devies. Ik had het ook niet echt kunnen voorkomen. Deze arts kende zelfs een moeder die het bij alledrie haar dochters had gehad! We gaan dan ook stug door, twee tot drie keer per dag. Eerst wat kolven, dat in de fles (bij voorkeur door iemand anders dan mijzelf gegeven) en daarna nog borstvoeding. Net kreeg ik wel een geweldig telefoontje. Femke had op het kinderdagverblijf 60 cc (!!!) gedronken. Oké… ze hadden er wel drie kwartier mee gezeten. Gelukkig hebben ze daar alle geduld. Ze hebben zelfs weer verschillende spenen geprobeerd, waar we er straks één van meekrijgen (inclusief tips!). Het gaat ons ergens lukken… de vraag is alleen of dat is voordat ze naar de basisschool gaat !

PS: Ik krijg vaak te horen dat moeders uiteindelijk hun kind niet bijvoeden, zodat hij/zij vanzelf de fles wel gaat drinken. Dit heb ik ook aan de leidster van het kinderdagverblijf (oude rot in het vak die op de kinderafdeling van het ziekenhuis heeft gewerkt) voorgelegd. Ze gaf al aan dat dat in noodgevallen wel gedaan werd, maar dat het voor geen enkele partij leuk is. Zolang we allemaal maar geduld hebben, zal het uiteindelijk wel gaan lukken.

So, a few months ago when I last went home to visit I decided that what I really needed to make for Audrey was a hooded sweater. My mom had the perfect pattern and we got some purple yarn – partially made from bamboo. Really soft, slightly hard to knit with…

So, when packing the bag for the hospital I, of course, had to pack the sweather that I made – so that Audrey could wear it home.

Chris is getting the sweater on her – harder than you would think – babies don’t seem to like to be dressed…

Is Ernie (van Bert) nu een jongen of een meisje? Pim weet het wel. Hij maakt een puzzel van Ernie in een rubberen bootje. ‘Hé, das de piemel!’, roept Pim enthousiast. Ik snap niet waar hij dat vandaan haalt. Hij wijst naar de roeispaan waar Ernie zijn bootje mee rondpeddelt. Nu snap ik het… hij bedoelt de ‘peddel’ !

La Dra. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) tiene un pasado con Owen (Kevin McKidd), el cual indudablemente creará futuros problemas para Owen y Cristina (Sandra Oh).

En una entrevista con TV Guide, Kim Raver analiza al nuevo triangulo amoroso, cuenta cuanto tiempo estará y sobre la posibilidad de su regreso a 24 para reunirse con Jack Bauer.

P: Cuentanos sobre la Dra. Teddy Altman

Kim Raver: Ella es excelente en lo que hace. Viene llegando de Irak. Ella y Owen estuvieron en Irak juntos. Yo llegó al Seatle Grace y hay algunos intereses de por medio.

P: ¿Teddy es una doctora cruel o una amable?

Kim Raver: [La productora Ejecutiva] Shonda Rhimes dice que ella es mala, pero diferente a los otros doctores de Cardio que han estado en el Seattle Grace. Ella se acerca de manera muy, realmente diferente. Ella además no es cálida ni adorable.

Puedo decir que es una especie de triangulo, pero es muy diferente a lo que ustedes esperan. Creo que Shonda y su equipo han hecho un excelente trabajo en la manera en la que introducieron a mi personaje. Me sorprendí y me pregunté como podrían hacerlo, porque sé que hay personas a las cuales les importa realmente Cristina y Owen.

Kim Raver: Pero esa es la emoción que se viene. No saber quién está con quién, ni qué está pasando con quién. No estoy segura de cuales son los planes para eso. Nosotros definitivamente tenemos escenas, pero no estoy segura de que sus pensamientos vayan a donde esto va.

P: Owen no ha podido hablar con Cristina aún sobre su tiempo en Irak. ¿Él se abrirá más con Teddy, ya que ambos comparte ese lazo?

Kim Raver: Ya veremos. Ellos pasaron definitivamente tiempo juntos en Irak, así que ese es el hilo en común que tienen.

P: ¿Por cuánto tiempo Teddy estará en Grey’s Anatomy?

Kim Raver: Los productores y yo hemos hablado, pero estamos viendo como se desarrolla la historia. Ya veremos.

P: ¿Con quién te ha tocado trabajar más?

Kim Raver: He trabajado mucho con Eric Dane y Jessica Capshaw. Este grupo es genial. Tienen algo especial. Me reía mucho en Lipstick Jungle, pero me he reído mucho más aquí.

P: Los fans siguen enojados por la cancelación de Lipstick Jungle.

Kim Raver: Es una locura porque repentinamente hemos podido obtener numeros del DVR, y es loco porque son buenos numeros. Fui muy afortunada al estar en ese programa. Las personas siguen preguntando qué pasó, hasta el día de hoy. Es bueno en el sentido de que ahora estoy conociendo otro grupo de personas y estoy muy feliz de explorar este personaje.

P: Hay rumores sobre una posible temporada más de 24, la última. ¿Hay alguna posibilidad de que puedas regresar?

Kim Raver: Yo definitivamente tengo una debilidad romantica por Audrey y Jack. Si este es el último año, esperaría que hubiera una especie de reunion. Ese además es un programa en que que nunca sabes hasta que sabes que no sabes, ¿Sabes? Crees que es una cosa y luego es una cosa completamente diferente. Pero que si ¿he filmado algo aún? No.

No han terminado de grabar aún, asi que tendremos que esperar y ver que pasa.

Marcus: playing music with Mom & Dad, listening to music, exploring all kinds of instruments, tapping to the beat.  He just can’t get enough.

But what I hope they love more is…just being together.
