BRAZIL vs ENGLAND: Formation and Lineups

Overview

With choices like Rio Ferdinand, Johnson, and the irreplaceable Gerrad injured , this is going to be quite a big test for the Lions, and a chance to try out a couple of new faces.

Brown might be the automatic choice at left back for the lack of anyone else, and Warnock will probably start at the opposite end. Barry and Milner will provide Lampard the support at midfield. Peter Crouch , the android who cannot help but score in an English jersey may end up partnering Rooney up front. Capello has fared much better than his predecessors, getting England through to WC2010 without too much of a hassle, and the team seems to be scoring goals by the dozen (granted that many of them were against piss-poor opposition), and other than Michael Owen, the rest of England seem to be quite pleased with the Italian so far.

Brazil, in the meantime have a slight embarrassment of riches. They’ve already qualified for next year’s world cup in clinical fashion, topping the rigorous South American group (as have England too in their respective group), and even without the likes of Pato , Adriano,  and Ronaldinho (slowly getting back to some form), they look every bit a dangerous squad. Fabiano will get the start up front, with Manchester city’s Robinho. Kaka will patrol the midfield. The rest of the XI either select themselves or are part of Dunga’s list of lovechilds (G. Silva).  Dunga has been under fire by the Brazilian press, fans, and the general football lover for robbing the  “Joga Bonito” out of the game. But just like his playing days, he bows down to none,  and believes that the system in place guarantees success.  In the process , he astonishingly even came out with a reasoning that the critics are actually a product of a mass conspiracy which wants Brazil to not succeed by resorting to the beautiful game!

Matchup: Brazil on Attack vs English Defense

As effective as team Brazil is, don’t expect to see the flamboyant team of yesteryear. Under Dunga, the team now plays in a somewhat criticized but very effective style, as reflected by the results.

1.The tremendous Maicon has the tendency to stray forward and press and he will exploit the flanks .
2. Gilberto Silva will provide some support in the midfield, but the key here are Kaka and Diego.
3. With Aurelio having the tendency to move towards centre midfield, look for Kaka to attack Brown on left flank, or Terry at the centre, thus opening up Fabiano to be man-marked by Upson. In the form that Fabiano has been, Upson’s night is going to be quite difficult.
4. Robinho will be pressing along with Kaka at the centre to provide John Terry the double headache of worrying about him as well as the roving Kaka.
5. Diego hence will have the choice of running into open zones to create the openings required for Brazil to exploit the English defense.
6. This strategy will force England to pull back Wright Philips to provide extra cover down the left Flank, and Milner to tread back to manage Diego.

BRAZIL ON ATTACK - SAMBA style

MATCH-UP: England on Attack vs the Brazilian Defense

It’s possible that Crouch plays just a little behind Rooney, but England might actually benefit pulling back Rooney as shown in the picture below. The best way is to attack Brazil through the centre.

1. Gilberto Silva and Melo are hard tackling defensive midfielders, but speed is not their forte. England might be served best to attack that Brazilian belly.
2.  Rooney should play a more withdrawn role – almost giving England a 4-4-1-1 formation, and allowing Lampard, Wright Philips and Rooney to attack Silva and Melo.
3. This may force Brazil to aid the 2 by allowing Aurelio to cover, leaving Wes Brown to wander forward and provide some much needed flank play.
4. If Joe Cole was present and in top form, he could have troubled Maicon, but with Milner (or anyone else), the best option is to hope that Maicon gets caught out of position once too often to exploit the Left flank.  Milner might be better served cutting in again.
5. After the half, if Crouch gets too little service, it might make more sense to substitute him with Bent or someone else of similar capacity.

ENGLAND ON ATTACK - Fish n Chips

Key to a Brazlian Bash: Win the Midfield battle.

Without Gerrad, it should be a little easier. Brazil is more of a counter attacking team these days, but 1 additional playmaker would have helped carve open the English defense. Ronaldinho might have been perfect if in form, but he isn’t. Brazil should realize the relative inexperience of the back 4 (Save terry of course).  It would greatly help if they play like Brazil, and not Dunga’s XI.

Key to English Glory: Treat Brazil like a European Team.

Make no mistake about it, this is not your 82 or even your 2002 Brazilian team. This team is quite physical, and will make you pay if treated otherwise. Unlike older teams, they are comfortable even with relatively less ball position, as they hit on the counter.  England must attack them through the middle and not from the flanks like they might fancy against a South American team normally. They should exploit the lack of speed in the heart of the Brazilian defense.

I am very pekchek.

Today is the first time I connected Aurelio to the PC (after weeks of buying it, procrastinator I know) and you know what, Motorola is so anal I want to eat Aurelio up.

First, the drives do not show up under My Computer. So I thought, maybe it’s like Sony, I need to like press a button on Aurelio before it will file share with Suzy (my laptop). So I tried pressing Aurelio a long time — Connections etc etc. But neh, it doesn’t work. So I installed some Motorola file sharer thing that comes with Aurelio, from a CD. It looks pretty cool and I can type text messages on Suzy and send it via Aurelio when Aurelio is connected via USB. Ohgay, so then now I can transfer photos and music files.

But then, I can’t do themes. So I googled V8 theme install, and I found out that in Motorola, a theme and a skin is two different things. A theme includes a skin, the wallpaper, the external screen wallpaper, a start-up screen, a shut-down screen, and a ringtone. And I can modify themes myself. Ohhhkayyyyy, so the colours and the icons that we usually call a theme in Sony Ericsson is called a Skin. And so I can download skins.

If you think that’s just what’s so anal about Motorola, you’re absolutely wrong.

In the default Motorola handset, there’re three skins that I can use. If I want to install more skins, I’ve to first flash my phone.

And what is flash? To Motorola, flash means upload.

Upload say upload lah. What flash?! ._.

Ohkay, and so how do I flash Aurelio? I googled more forums and look what I found

I am very pekchek. That’s supposed to be a Simpleton Guide. Does that mean I’m worse than a simpleton. D:

The Simpleton Guide says:

1. Backup everything. Which is what I did because it’s a one-click thing using the Motorola software that I installed using the disc.

2. Update my Windows driver, and then restart my computer. WHICH I dilligently did, although I don’t really know whether I really installed it or not. ._.

3. Flash a bootloader. No I don’t know what’s a bootloader either. To flash a bootloader, I need a RSD 3.9 and above. Which I dilligently downloaded. But I don’t know how to open the file. So I can’t open a bootloader (whatever that is?) so I got stuck at the 3rd step. AND these three steps took about 3 hours of my precious youth.

Can’t they make Aurelio more user-friendly like Sony. D:

I gave up after eating Aurelio. NEHHHHHHH. I don’t eat gold stuff.

Ogay it’s nearing 1pm and I’ve got lots of work to do. SIAN.

That’s Yap and I with mocha ice blend and Chicago cheesecake after a econs tutorial about exhausting the budget to get brownies and coffee. Very fattening and super sinful. That was at Coffee Bean (?) near Fullerton, on a Tuesday afternoon, we wanted to capture the nice view behind us, and quite obviously we failed.

That was also the day we watched some Spanish horror flick called High Tension which isn’t fantastic, but good enough.

Tuesday was also the day a bunch of us met up with Meiching for dinner at Lau Pa Sat before she’s Ireland-bound.

That’s us, at Starbucks One Fullerton after dinner at Lau Pa Sat. Jiahao quite obviously hid part (read: most) of his head behind Meiching, Sheryl and possibly Junjie. Obviously his head can’t be that size. As you might have realised, he’s standing super far away, like at Perth, when we take this picture.

Jiahao is a great friend who’ll go to great lengths (pun!) just to take a photo with us. You’re (Y), Jiahao.

Seriously, I’m pretty sick of making head-jokes. But it’s funny no matter how many times I say it. And to continue being my humourous self, I guess I’ve to keep telling head-jokes.

Alright, that’s about it. I’m still pekchek about Aurelio and his user-unfriendliness but I guess I’ll just make do with it. (Not like there’s anything else I can do ._.) At least he’s pretty and I can transfer photos.

Bom. Quis evitar comentar algo até agora. Explico: propus um trabalho aos meus alunos de Marketing I do curso de Comunicação Social que fizessem um texto dissertativo, sobre a Bienal do Livro de Curitiba, respondendo à seguinte pergunta: Bienal do Livro: evento cultural ou comercial?

Vou evitar responder aqui, e que a matéria abaixo sirva de material de pesquisa para eles. Porém, eu preciso desabafar. É uma das piores feiras de livros que já fui na vida. Parece uma “Brasil Mostra Brasil” de livros. Com um monte de vendedor te enchendo a paciência, você não pode olhar que tem alguém insistindo para você fazer uma assinatura de uma coisa, ou comprar outra. Quase perdi a paciência com o pessoal da Barsa. Sem falar nos CHATÍSSIMOS seres que vem com o papinho: quer ganhar um brinde? Para mim, isso é crime!!! Fazer a pessoa mostrar o cartão e induzi-la, muitas vezes sem deixar explícito, a uma assinatura de revista. Adoro massacrá-los, não o fiz por respeito a minha esposa, que estava junto.

Parabéns, MESMO, aos sebos. Nestes sim, muito bem atendido. Aliás, únicas pessoas que pareciam conhecer algo de literatura. Aos organizadores, se eu pudesse, mandaria uma sonora VAIA. Não posso opinar sobre as palestras. Apesar de estarmos lá no momento do Kid Vinil, eu não tinha mais paciência. Deve ter sido interessante, para os 15 ou 20 que estavam lá. (Sorry Kid, eu teria ficado, não fosse a irritação do cara da Barsa, devo minha ausência a ele!).

Espero que só eu tenha tido esta impressão. Por isso ainda prefiro os eventos mais alternativos. Minha opinião, sobre este: puro comércio!

Bienal de Curitiba vende livros a preços populares

Está sendo lançado na I Bienal do Livro de Curitiba a quarta edição do novo dicionário Aurélio, o Aurelião, pela Editora Positivo. Com 2.160 páginas, a obra traz 435 mil verbetes, locuções e definições. De novidade, possui um recurso inédito que visa orientar e tirar dúvidas dos consulentes em relação às novas regras ortográficas.

“A nova ortografia é o foco principal da quarta edição. Para as palavras alteradas, incluímos um símbolo indicativo próprio. Além disso, no prefácio, foi feita uma análise das novas regras”, afirma a editora de obras de referência da Editora Positivo, Valéria Zelik.

O conteúdo da nova edição do Aurélio ainda segue as diretrizes e a qualidade técnica do autor, Aurélio Buarque de Holanda Ferreira, que faleceu no ano de 1989.

“Tudo que ele (o autor) ensinava e acreditava, foi seguido pela equipe de coordenação do dicionário. Familiares de Aurélio Buarque também participaram da elaboração da nova edição, que já está à venda nas livrarias”.

A quarta edição também contém uma versão online, em CD. Na bienal, o dicionário com o CD está à venda por R$ 269,90. Só o dicionário custa R$ 229,90. Quem quiser obter descontos de 5% a 15%, pode participar de um game interativo no estande da Editora Positivo.

Na atividade, são propostos desafios onde os participantes demonstram conhecimentos relativos a significados de palavras ou ortografia. Os direitos de publicação das obras Aurélio pertencem ao Grupo Positivo desde o ano de 2004.

Entre as diversas atrações da I Bienal do Livro de Curitiba, está a comercialização de obras a preços populares. No local, é possível encontrar diversos títulos, adultos e infantis, por preços que variam entre R$ 1,00 e R$ 10,00.

No estande da editora Edelbra, por exemplo, é possível encontrar histórias infantis, como Dumbo e Robin Hood, por R$ 1,00. “Estes livros são os que mais estão saindo.

As pessoas passam pelo estande e levam vários, para ter em casa ou para dar de presente”, conta a distribuidora da Edelbra, Maria Luiza Delazeri. Na área de livros usados, as pessoas podem encontrar obras de Paulo Coelho e Shakespeare por R$ 7,00; Miguel de Cervantes e Monteiro Lobato por R$ 10,00; e Carlos Heitor Cony por R$ 5,00.

“São bons títulos e bons autores a preços bastante baixos. As obras com preços populares estão saindo rapidinho”, comenta o responsável pelo sebo Espaço Alternativo, Werkley Silva.

Livros novos também podem ser encontrados com preços de promoção. No estande da Top Livros, que é especializada em pontas de estoque, existem livros de ficção, romances e da área jurídica por valores a partir de R$ 1,00.

“As pessoas vêm até o estande procurando uma determinada obra e acabam comprando outra em função do baixo preço. Nossas vendas têm sido muito boas”, diz o expositor da Top Livros, Cristiano da Luz.

Algumas semanas antes do impeachment do presidente Collor, em 1992, o vereador João Pedro (PC do B) subiu à tribuna da Câmara Municipal de Manaus para atacar o então presidente.

Sky Sports News sources revealed that full back Fabio Aurelio will be out for 1-3 months after twisting his knee while playing football with his children. They also stated that he may need surgery to fix the problem. It was first thought for Fabio to be out until christmas but Rafa played down these rumours and told sky sports that it was not as bad as what first thought. The moral of this story is that children are evil little critters who injure people and cause untold hardships for everyone who has one or more.

Tottenham are considering making a £3million bid for 19-year-old Sheffield United defender Kyle Walker, Spurs rivals Arsenal are closing in on the signing of St Etienne midfielder Blaise Matuidi as the Gunners appear to have missed out on Fiorentina midfielder Felipe Melo to Juventus. 

Arsenal`s chances of keeping midfielder Cesc Fabregas have taken a blow as reports suggest that Barcelona are ready to sanction Samuel Eto’s move to Manchester City, the £40million cash they get would allow them to move in for Fabregas.

Alex McLeish the Birmingham City boss is keeping tight-lipped on rumours that he will bid for Newcastle`s Joey Barton, another Newcastle player, defender Sebastien Bassong claims Arsenal are interested in his services.

Stephen Gerrard the Liverpool Captain has signed a contract extension keeping at the club to 2013 on improved terms reported to be £110,000 per week.  Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Aurelio could be out for 6 months following reports that he has twisted his knee whilst playing with his children on holiday.

West Ham United have had their bid for Southampton keeper Kelvin Davis rejected as Davis has decided to stay with Saints to get regular football. Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has his sights on Swedish striker Marcus Berg, Leeds midfielder Neil Kilkenny and West Brom midfielder Jonathan Greening. Hull City are also after Greening.

Sam Allardyce, Blackburn boss is muscling in on Sunderland`s attempt to sign Tottenham striker Darren Bent, at the same time Big Sam is looking to strike for Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones.  Sunderland meanwhile have reportedly made an £11million bid for Peter Crouch, Portsmouth are considering the offer. 

The Black Cats have also made a bid thought to be around £2.5million for Middlesboro striker Mido.  Martin O`Neill, Villa manager is looking to offer £16million for Middlesborough duo Tuncay and Downing.

Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be heading for Old Trafford as Alex Ferguson is reported to be preparing a bid.  Everton manager David Moyes is hoping to recruit Espanyol full-back Sergio Sanchez but Sevilla and Valencia are also in the hunt for the defender.
