‘Supernatural’ boss to fans: ‘Withhold judgment on Paris Hilton’

It stands to reason that a Supernatural season built around a looming apocalypse would feature a guest turn by Paris Hilton. But series creator Eric Kripke says the casting stunt — airing next Thursday — doesn’t herald the end of the world as we know it.

“I don’t think we’re gassing up the motorcycle to jump the shark yet,” insists Kripke of the episode, which finds the hotel heiress playing “a monster who takes the form of Paris Hilton… It’s a fun, irreverent episode about modern celebrity. [Fans] should withhold judgment until they see it.”

Kripke insists the idea to cast Hilton originated in the Supernatural writers room and not in a CW executive suite. “There was no pressure form the studio or network to do any stunt casting,” he says. “We had our wish list in the room of who would be the best spokesperson for a satirical monologue on modern celebrity and Paris Hilton was at the top of the list. We never expected in a million years that she would do it, but I spoke to her and she got the joke immediately and signed on quickly.

“I give her a lot of credit for being a hell of a good sport,” he continues. “The fact that she was game to play the part speaks volumes about her sense of humor.”

How was your TV time last night? I caught the premieres of How I Met Your Mother (LOVE) and Big Bang Theory but haven’t gotten to Gossip Girl yet. Just as well because Jacob’s recap from last week wasn’t up yet and it unordered my whole world. Better to just watch GG tonight. Plus, I really don’t have much to watch tonight anyway…

Another copy/paste job from Ausiello reminding to set those DVRs. I mean, sort of. We’re not really into this particular set of shows. Ashley’s additions are from her How To Watch TV on Tuesday post last week.

The Forgotten, 10 p.m. (ABC)
Ashley says to stay away from it. I don’t even know it is about.

The Good Wife, 10 p.m. (CBS)
Ashley says: “This sounded really boring to me, but then I read the description in the TV Guide and it kind of intrigued me, but mostly I just want to watch it because Julianna Margulies seems to be some kind of rare specimen that ages backwards. She looks ten years younger, now, than she did fifteen years ago in the pilot of ER.”

NCIS, 8 p.m. (CBS)

We don’t watch these shows, but I love the movie SWAT which stars LL Cool J (back when he was being James Todd Smith aka LL Cool J) and some other wicked awesome people. I love that movie so much. Maybe this show will be just like it. I can dream anyway: cops, LA, etc.

I thought for a minute about doing some elongated Emmy round-up, but there are so many who have hammered that snowy white seal pup to death. So, I’m just going to say a few words (ha! right like I ever keep it short) about the Emmys.

1. Neil Patrick Harris rocked! (thank our heavenly father somebody had the smarts to make him a producer.)

2. 70% of what I saw was worth watching. I hate awards shows. I watch the intro then come back for the last 5 minutes. Really done this for years. Somebody says “did you watch the <insert Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, etc.> last night?” and I say “Yeah” because I saw a total of 7 minutes. I watched *nearly* all of this show. And I didn’t die. I did flip channels to …something I don’t even remember… to skip over the Reality crap (sorry, that and moving Leno to 10pm are the two worst things to happen to television..ever….well that whole Kanye thing was irritating… and having to watch TV newsmen write on a whiteboard with 95″ digital screens accessible 2 feet away during presidential voting day…that sucked too). Thank you Neil, Emmy production or whomever that categorized the Emmys, I just wish I had the sense to watch something else during the mini-series/movie segment.

3.The movie/mini-series segment was awful. Not awful because of who won or was nominated, but awful because 95% of America had not seen any (get that, ANY) of the movie/mini-series up for awards. We had no investment in any of it. Why? Because THE BIG THREE don’t make mini-series or movies for television anymore and I’m sorry, it’s a crap economy, I’m unemployed (oddly, like LOTS of folks) and I can’t afford the fat cat pay channels (this means you Showtime & HBO). It would have been nice if just one of the categories had something that a normal person watched.

4. Dr. Horrible (LOVE and HEARTS all around) was worth waiting for.

5. Neil should NOT do this again next year. Remember the theater! Always leave ‘em wanting more. A+ for you Neil. Been there, done that, got the bow-tie. Ricky Gervais would be a nice follow-up. With Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello as a color commentator.

Nós iremos ver mais Dell nessa temporada de Private Practice? Chris Lowell é tão talentoso, é uma vergonha ver isso ser desperdiçado.
Acredite ou não, veremos menos de Dell nessa temporada. Fontes confirmam pra mim exclusivamente que a encomenda de episódios para Chris Lowell reduziram de 22 para o mínimo de 13. Tecnicamente, ele continua um ator regular na série. A prudência convencional diz que o movimento foi relacionado a orçamento, mas uma pessoa de dentro diz que Lowell queria mais liberdade para buscar outros projetos.

Algum furo sobre Private Practice?
A estreia volta ao tempo da clínica antes da Addison para mostrar como Pete, Violet e a equipe se conheceram. (A técnica de edição emprega transição entre o passado e o presente é totalmente original e altamente eficaz. É mais do que um artifício para provocar risos a peruca que eles colocaram na Audra). O episódio também tem um funeral (não, não da Violet), duas cirurgias angustiantes, e uma resposta para essa pergunta: como será abordada essa redução da carga de trabalho de Chris Lowell?

I’ve just read some very interesting news; one of the cast of Dexter is due to appear for two episodes of Dollhouse’s second season. Find out who it is and what their character will be….

Keith Carradine has been signed up to appear as Matthew Harding, a powerful businessman, according to Ausiello. As he says, there are no further details at the moment, but can we speculate already? Could he be a Rossum Corporation/Dollhouse bigwig? The double appearance suggests he’s probably more than an engagement-of-the-week character.

I’ve enjoyed Carradine’s work on Dexter, and can see him fitting very well into the Dollhouse ensemble.

• PEOPLE.com posted a new promo photo of The Beautiful Life, featuring Mischa Barton (Marissa, The O.C.).

• Chace Crawford (Nate, Gossip Girl) will be  a presenter at the VMAs, according to PEOPLE.com.

• At the TCA Press Tour, CW exec Dawn Ostroff said the Gossip Girl spin-off is “unlikely” and a 90210-Melrose Place cross-over is possible.  There *could* be a different GG spin-off though.

• Ali Larter (Kristy, Dawson’s Creek) got married over the weekend and Joshua Jackson (Pacey, Dawson’s Creek) was reportedly in attendance.
