‘Under A New Sun’ has been named as the title for the up-coming album from The Eternal set to see the light of day in 2010. The album will be the follow up to the acclaimed ‘Kartika’ & also the bands fourth full length album. We can also reveal that song titles include: ‘Control’, ‘Under A New Sun’, ‘A Thousand Shades of You’, ‘Collapse’ & ‘Cast In Stone’ to name a few.

The band have also launched a studio blog which can be viewed at:

http://www.the-eternal-studio.blogspot.com

The band enter 301 Studios in Byron Bay on December 4th. The blog will be updated daily throughout December with pictures and the latest news on the recording process, so be sure to check it out.

‘Under A New Sun’ will be produced by Jeff Martin (The Tea Party). Jeff adds this about the album; ‘I proudly re-introduce The Eternal… The type of band I’ve been waiting to produce. It’s been a year now since Mark and I agreed to embark on a journey that begins this December. For The Eternal this will not be a stepping stone but a launch pad. For me, a creative working relationship that allows me to realise an artist’s vision and re-connect with past influences, all the while looking into the future…darkly. I envision an alchemical marriage, a musical landscape anchored by organic rock and roll and infested with industrial overtones. To put things lightly, you’re not playing with kids here. The Eternal are the real deal.’

The album will be co-engineered by Paul Pilsneniks who has worked with such artists as The Living End, The Mars Volta, Silverchair, Grinspoon & Alanis Morissette, and The Eternal has also enlisted acclaimed Finnish keyboard player Maria Ilmoniemi (Tarja / Husky Rescue) to contribute.

The Eternal news;

Talented Finnish keyboard player Maria Ilmoniemi who we met on our recent tour in the USA (She was in Tarja’s band) is now at her studio in Helsinki, Finland, tracking keyboards for our new album. Maria has almost completed her masters degree in music & has an amazing range of digital & analogue keyboards, so we are very lucky to have her onboard.

Due to distance, its hard to make Maria a full time member of The Eternal, so she will be the invisible 4th member on this record and also the first female in what has very much been a boys club up until now. We are very excited to be working with her and we are sure the results will be fantastic. More information on the new album coming very soon!

The way “Brisbane’s favorite power-pop band” Grand Atlantic survive is by writing

The way “Brisbane’s favorite power-pop band” Grand Atlantic survive is by writing catchy songs. This is the excellent album Oasis should have done after What’s the Story Morning Glory but didn’t. True to their name, Grand Atlantic go after big, towering hooks. They know that hit songs are simple, and they keep them that way – this is the kind of album you’ll be humming despite yourself after you’ve heard it once. As terse as the writing is, the production has a massive, big-room 90s feel, with a ton of guitar overdubs ringing, pinging, clanging and crashing in their allotted spaces. What hits you right off the bat is how smartly and tastefully this has been assembled.

The album gets going with Coast Is Clear, a midtempo, harmony-driven escape anthem which sets the tone for the rest of the cd. Tripwires introduces the band’s other specialty, crunchy riff-rock, here spiced with some clever retro 80s synth patches. The big hit here, obviously, is She’s a Dreamer, which could be Oasis but thankfully without the coked-out poser attitude and all those pilfered Beatles licks (you can hear it right now on their myspace). The upbeat post-Oasis vibe continues on Freeway and its tasty layers of guitar.

The title track, interestingly enough, goes back in time another twenty years for a sort of Badfinger ballad feel. After that, the Rickenbackers kick in with some tasty jangle and clang on the sarcastic sha-la-la power-pop number Used to Be the Sensitive Type. There’s also a satisfying, electric piano-flavored dis of a gold-digging woman, a garage rock number, and the pensive anthem These Are the Times, a feast of textures with the Rickenbacker adding gorgeously echoey accents above the roar. Finally, on the last song, there are some Beatles echoes, specifically, Lennon’s Imagine. Otherwise, this is great driving music, great loud party music and something that could easily take off internationally. Keep your eyes on Grand Atlantic whether you’re in the antipodes or somewhere north of there. Oz fans can see the band live next at 8 PM on August 29 at the Coolangatta Hotel on the southern end of the Gold Coast, corner of Warner Street & Marine Parade in Coolangatta, Qld.

The lower and more private parts of my body are still recovering from the hours I spent yesterday sealed inside those ‘Wakee’ jeans. I had a pain in my muffin, alongside other parts, that is only now, after a good nights rest, showing signs of revcovery.

The dangers of wearing tight jeans are REAL! See today’s accessories pic if you don’t believe me.

Other news is that today a photographer from the local newspaper (and I DO mean local) is coming to take a snap of me. For some reason my Year of Denim has struck a chord in the local community’s media outlet. So as you can see I have been extra careful in regards to today’s outfit. I have gone for a serious yet frivolous fashion combination…

The evils of too-tight jeans are still with me

Top: Marcs jacket with silvery sheen through it

Bottom: Equinox denim knickerbockers

Accessory: cute denim cap sent all the way down from Cairns (thanks Soo!)

And yes I am clutching my side-muffin in pain. Those jeans from yesterday inspired me to dig through my record collection to rediscover the album I am clutching – Hard Knocks. This Hammond label vinyl beauty deftly shows what wearing tight jeans does to a girl… turns them into a sharpie!! Be warned! Romper Stomper fashions are imminent on this blog!

The other record in this photo, Bumper, also features denim styles. It’s more of your 70s disco hits, while Hard Knocks focuses on Aussie rockin’ standards by The Angels, Billy Thorpe and that hard core sharpie band Sherbet.

New denim cap fits just so, while Hard Knocks shows how low a girl will sink wearing too tight denim... knife carrying and ice skates

I woke up Friday morning thinking all Melbourne shows for The Eternal were cursed with rain, our last home show had seen some of the heaviest rainfall Melbourne had seen in a long time so I was prepared, but by the afternoon everything had cleared up and I was personally feeling quite good about the show. We loaded in around 7, said our hello’s to the other bands and Terry led the way to a fine eatery in North Melbourne. After a nice meal we made our way back to the venue, I received several text messages saying there had been an earthquake in Melbourne! The first one since 1973 or something like that. We had been lucky enough to not feel it but many had, so the rain may have stopped but natural disaster was still attempting to stop this show!

The Eternal update 21.01.2009

We are very sad to announce that after much contemplation Chris has decided to leave the band. Chris was the founding member with Mark back in 2003 and after 5 fantastic years he has decided to move on. We wish him the best, we all remain great friends and we will not rule out that if Chris wishes to return in the future he may. We will continue as a 4 piece and will not be looking for a replacement at this point.

A statement from Chris:

Hi all,
No good can come from these statements and this one is no exception. I am saddened to announce that I have made the decision to depart The Eternal, a decision that was not easy to make and was a long time coming.

The Eternal was basically my life for a good 5 years and I loved every single moment of it! It was also an extremely gruelling experience, which at times took its toll on me on a personal level. I gotta say it is hard work for everyone involved – not just me, but I am pretty damn good at stressing out all the time! So I guess what I am trying to say is that while my heart wanted me to go on, my head needed a rest! Right from the start the band meant the world to me and still does. If anyone told me 7 years ago that I would help record 3 albums and do 2 European tours, I’d be convinced they were from another planet!

I need to thank a lot of people but for the sake of keeping you all reading I will restrict it to being band related. First and foremost is Mark who I have known for more than half of my life and is like a brother with or without a band. I thank him for seeing something in me even when I was playing around with a Casio keyboard and a horrible beaten up guitar in my room and for giving me the most awesome opportunity to prove things to myself that I never thought possible. To James Hunt, Marty, Terry and Linc I am thankful for having the chance to share music, the stage and ultimately your friendships, it’s been and always will be an immense pleasure! The rest of the former members I thank for their time and talent in helping make The Eternal the great thing it is today. To everyone from promoters, to support bands, engineers blah blah blah thanks, every step has been a memorable experience! All my friends and family who have stuck by this odd little man with mad ideas over all the years. And lastly but in no way least, to the fans, I’ll still be going to the gigs and all so don’t be afraid to come and say “hello”, I’m always willing to talk about all things “The Eternal”.

I am so proud of what the band has achieved in my time and will continue to watch as an avid fan and help out in any way I can. Make no mistake that the band will continue on and continue to grow, so everyone stay on board for the ride! – Chris

Pocas bandas me han llamado tanto la atención en los últimos años como los australianos The Drones. Conocí a The Drones con Wait Long by the River And The Bodies of Your Enemies …. Flechazo inmediato.

Before I even heard their music, I already knew I was gonna like them as their name hinted on Band on the Run, which is one of my all-time favorite albums. And then, a friend at work loaned me her Get Born CD, and I was instantly hooked. It’s a nice blend of AC/DC and sixites British Invasion garage rock, which never gets old in my book.

The song Are You Gonna Be My Girl sounds like it came out of a jukebox in a diner when I was five. It’s got that old-fashioned R&B shuffle beat that makes you want to shake yer booty and party like it’s 1965.

Check it out…

What f**kin bad news. What an outstanding band, a nice throwback sound to early hard rock/metal. Appointed leader/guitarist/vocalist, Andrew Stockdale (middle, in photo above), is committed to carrying on, replacing drummer, Myles Heskett, and bassist/keyboardist, Chris Ross, with new musicians — but how will it effect that distinct Wolfmother sound. We will see. Stockdale is the biggest part of that sound, so it may work.

Wolfmother is one of the best bands to come out of Australia since AC/DC. They have recently written material together. However, they have had their share of turmoil within the ranks. Last year there were reports of the band taking needed breaks from each other. Perhaps it was the sharp and fast rise to fame that caused friction.

Myles and Chris promise to form their own project. Wolfmother is going to be a hard thing to beat.

I Touch Myself may be the worst song ever… no wait, that would definitely be Jefferson Starship’s We Built This City. But it’s damn close. And over the years it has become the karaoke song of choice for many laughs. It also has a life of it’s own in comedy. The other day — in a five minute cable channel surf — I came across two comedies using the song as a hilarious punchline.

It’s too bad. Divinyls vocalist, Christine Amphlett, is a quality rock singer, and unfortunately she will always be known for this goofy single.
