I played Silkroad about twice before, back when they had the old verification code system. Back then

I played Silkroad about twice before, back when they had the old verification code system. Back then it took me less than 10 minutes to log in (because I played in the morning when less people were on). Truth is, there weren’t so many players back then as there are now.

I quit playing when my character was about lvl 20, for no apparent reason. A couple of days ago, I decided to play again, so I downloaded the game and made a new account. My internet was really crappy in that period, so I only played after I got a new network card. As I start the game, this big box shows up, telling me the server is full and that Auto Login will start. Then I though: “Ok…this shouldn’t take long.”

Meanwhile, I googled this new system to see what others think of it. Most people said they got logged into the game in about 5 minutes. I thought: “WOW. Goodie, I’ll be playing Silkroad soon.” And so the hours passed and I still didn’t play a minute. When I counted up to about 8 hours (not continuous), I discovered I was logged in, but guess what? THE GAME CRASHED. Yay!

I got really annoyed so I gave up logging in that day. Yesterday morning, I got logged in in about 20 minutes, and I managed to play for a while.

I’ve been waiting for 3 hours this morning and I still didn’t log in. So my conclusion is: THIS NEW SYSTEM SUCKS! I hope Joymax brings back the old system, because it was waaaaaay easier to log in. Or maybe add some new servers (though they become crowded in 2-3 days too), or more than 3500 spots.

Not to mention, there are a billion bots waiting in line, taking all of our places. Great “we-don’t-let-bots-in-our-game” system, Joymax!!!

So if anybody found my post through Google or something, what do you think of the Auto Login system? Is it easier for you to log in? Is it harder? Or maybe it’s the same? Leave a comment.

auth            required        pam_env.so
auth required pam_unix.so try_first_pass likeauth nullok

a così:

auth            required        pam_env.so
auth            sufficient      pam_usb.so
auth required pam_unix.so try_first_pass likeauth nullok

pamusb-conf --add-device MyDevice
Please select the device you wish to add.
* Using "SanDisk Corp. Cruzer Titanium (SNDKXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX)" (only option)
Which volume would you like to use for storing data ?
* Using "/dev/sda1 (UUID: )" (only option)
Name            : MyDevice
Vendor          : SanDisk Corp.
Model           : Cruzer Titanium
Serial          : SNDKXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Volume UUID     : 6F6B-42FC (/dev/sda1)
Save to /etc/pamusb.conf ?
[Y/n] y
Done.

# pamusb-conf --add-user root
  Which device would you like to use for authentication ?
  * Using "MyDevice" (only option)
  User            : root
  Device          : MyDevice
  Save to /etc/pamusb.conf ?
  [Y/n] y
  Done.

# /etc/pmount.allow
# pmount will allow users to additionally mount all devices that are
# listed here.
/dev/mmcblk0p1
/dev/sdb1
/dev/sda1

gpasswd -a utente plugdev

Setting up Fedora 10 to log into our account automatically is very easy. You simply need to append a few lines to the file called custom.conf located in the /etc/gdm/ directory. Now, open the above mentioned file in a text-editor like gedit or kedit, and append these lines:

[daemon]
TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=<Your-Username>
TimedLoginDelay=0

so that the configuration looks something like this:

Unfortunately, no GUI is still available for GNOME on Fedora 10 to achieve this! You can see the screencast below to get a clear picture of the entire How-To:

Masuklah ke Configure Your Computer.

Took a small detour to Fedora land, I found no option how to enable autologin in gnome, so here’s how to do it.
Please remember to back up your files first! :

cp /etc/gdm/gdm.schemas /etc/gdm/gdm.schemas.backup

nano /etc/gdm/gdm.schemas

and locate

`<schema>
<key>daemon/AutomaticLoginEnable</key>
<signature>b</signature>
<default>false</default>  Change this to true.
</schema>`

And finally edit this:

`<schema>
<key>daemon/AutomaticLogin</key>
<signature>s</signature>
<default></default>  Put the username here.
</schema>`

If you have look a bit further down, you’ll find options how to enable timed login too, if you use that instead you must leave auto login disabled.

Thanks to this post on linuxquestions that led me to the answer.

Update: edited post with better example.

Update 2!

Thanks to JGV in the comments below for pointing this out!

The even simpler solution:

`* edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf
* add section [daemon] to this file
* inside this section, add lines:
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=username`

With Autologin you can log into a site from within your account.

Example: I want to check my mail, I hit the “Go There” button next to the entry for my Yahoo account, a new tab opens in my browser, I hit the Passpack It! button and I’m in. For this to work I just have to have Autologin activated.

With 1 Click Login turned on, you can log into a site without going through your account each time.

Example: I am surfing the Internet normally, I come across an article on Yahoo, I decide I want to check my mail while I’m there, I click on the “Sign In” link on the page, hit my Passpack It! button and I’m in. For this to work I have to have my Passpack account open in another tab or window of my browser, Autologin activated and 1 Click Login turned on.

As you can see, 1 Click Login is basically an “extra feature” of Autologin, they get the same thing done but in different ways.

Keep in mind that while 1 Click Login is turned on, your Passpack account will not lock up so make sure you do not walk away from your computer before locking it up manually.

The Autologin section of our blog has more detailed information on Autologin and 1 Click Login, and how to set up each one.
