차를 살펴보던 그 남자는 수동임을 확인하고 한숨 한 번 쉬고는 열쇠를  돌려주고 달아났다고 한다.

그러니 차량 강탈을 방지하려면 자동이 아니라 수동을 타는 게 최고. ^^

오늘의 영어는, 수동기어는 Manual Transmission보다는 Standard Transmission을 쓴다는 것. 물론 Manual Transmission도 통하지만. 그리고 변속기는 미쑝보다는 Transmission.

자동은 그냥 Automatic Transmission.

On November 18, YouTube posted a video demo of their automatic captions:

This may be one of the best examples of a web 2.0 tool where one could easily show a direct cost savings for taxpayers. Having a captioning service caption even a short video can cost several hundred dollars.  This service will be free, sans labor to write a script or edit a caption file.

The unfortunate reality is that there isn’t currently enough money, time, or resources to caption all videos, even though the state and federal laws say it should be done.

Instead of ignoring this issue and pretending that signing bills into law will somehow magically solve the problem, we should open up a conversation about how to balance the letter of the law, the spirit of the law, and our current/future budget problems.

The public should demand that more cheap and free services like these be utilized by government to decrease costs, increase transparency, and enable online, public interaction with and between taxpayers.

Bought as a gift. Upon opening box immediately noticed this was previously used unit; internal packaging material broken and water spots in the tank. I decided to try it anyway, hoping it had been returned for something other than performance. Nope — water leaked from below boiler unit quite badly. Really awful for the manufacturer to sell a reconditioned unit as new, worse one that does not work! The item is quite heavy returning it was a real chore. I urge the prospective buyer to be be wary of this manufacturer again. I won’t risk buying from tjem again.

I agree with the other reviews. I have two of these, a his and hers. We drink a lot of espresso, and had an earlier model that developed a leak at the steam valve. We have had several of the Jura machines, which had short lives and were not easily user serviceable. The coffee from them wasn’t as hot and they were more expensive. And that’s the real beauty of the DeLonghis. Turn the unit off but still plugged in, open the door and squeeze the two red buttons, out comes the brewunit. So easy! Rinse it with your fingers and pop it back in. Clean everything every couple of weeks and it gives beautiful hot pulls with great crema . As with any superautomatic, it seems important to avoid oily beans. They cause trouble. And the ideal grind seems to be within one click of the midpoint on the grindcontrol, otherwise the brewfilter will start to clog if too fine, or give weak brew if too coarse. The long shot gives a good Americano. The wand makes lattes very quickly.
Other points: Even if your water is almost distilled-soft, its not a bad idea to use the Swiss Durgol decalcifier from time to time. Once you set up the hardness number, the machine will let you know when. But the manuals don’t say how much water to use. About a quarter of a tank incl cleaner seems correct. The little tape they give you to measure your hardness is tricky. It measured 2-3 yet we know the water here is very soft. In order to keep your warranty, however, you have to set the hardness by what the tape says however. Sigh.
Since I always use a double shot (“strong flavor”) the pucks need emptying every seventh time. Easy, because it tells you to. Clean the crud in the bottom of the little bucket so mold doesn’t start in. And çlean the tray, fill the water while you’re at it, then you don’t have to wait when it’s low.
With the lesser machine, we noticed trouble when the brewspigots started pulsing a little forward and there was coffee leakage behind it. Then water started appearing below the tray. Have not had those problems with the 4400. Cleanliness seems essential to longer life.
Always leave a cup under the spigot, since the automatic rinse water will fester in the tray.
Overall, it still seems to save money over the local barista, and the convenience (it is ready whenever you have it set for) and taste are terrific. I see no reason to spend more for needless features. For us, this was the machine to get.

I had used a couple of smaller Espresso machines that were manual operation. Nothing too fancy, but they were pump driven at least. After my last one broke quickly I decided to seek out a very nice machine. I figured if I was going to get a machine that I should step it up to a Super Automatic Machine. It became quite tiresome to keep emptying, grinding coffee, adding and tamping when trying to create a venti iced doubleshot at home. I found this machine and I must say I am so impressed with it. It’s quality is quite amazing. The espresso it produces is incredible. Clean up is easy and maintenance is simple. The wand works extremely well and steams milk to 160 Degrees quite quickly. It’s also super easy to clean up the wand. It comes apart and allows you to clean it with just a simple wipe down. The machines I have had before you had to really put some elbow grease in because the milk would cake on it. This machine definitely carries a premium pricetag, but it is a premium machine of high quality. It is absolutely worth it if you are a cafe enthusiast.

We own the Delonghi Magnifica and I tell you, we LOVE it! I make Americano’s all the time and my husband add shots to his regular drip coffee. It is so convenient. It is a little pricey – but worth every penny. FYI…The machine sits high and very deep, so make sure you have the counter space for it.

I knew I had to have an espresso machine after using a friends Starbucks Barrista but that machine proved hard to find… guess it’s discontinued, so I opted for a Starbucks Serena which was a huge disappointment!! I promptly returned the Serena and ordered the Napolitana instead.

I went out to meet the UPS truck, and as I signed for my new machine, the UPS lady let the box tumble down the stairs of her truck and onto the ground..urgh!!

I eagerly unpacked the new machine, plugged it in, followed the directions to prime it, got steam…but no pump!! I was so disappointed!! I started to fill out the Amazon return form, but decided to sleep on it. The next morning I pulled out a screw driver, thinking that something had jiggled loose from the poor UPS handling, and after removing 2 screws and carefully prying the top off, I found that the wiring harness had slid off the pump. I pushed it back on, marveled at the simplicity of the parts inside, and had it put back together and brewing great espresso in 5 minutes (I don’t know that I would recommend doing this, as I probably voided the warranty, but who’s going to know ).

I brewed a great espresso the first time I used the machine, and am getting a little better with each one. I like the fact that I can make adjustments with the grinder, and adjust how much pressure I use with the tamper, and thereby have control over the quality of my crema, and the strength of the coffee. Even though I am a novice barrista, I like the fact that this machine allows me to learn and get better.

The quality of the machine seems excellent. The stainless steel looks great and is easy to clean. The portafilter is heavy and stays hot for a long time. The steam frother works great. The grinder is noisy, but I’ve never used one that wasn’t. I look forward to using this machine for years and years.

I would have awarded only one star, but since the machine looks so nice, I give it two. Beyond the looks, the performance of the espresso machine is poor where it really counts, and that is the delivery of espresso. The pump system definitely has prostate problems, and is very weak, failing to deliver a 20 second shot of espresso or ANY crema. There is no solenoid switch either, so one is left with a pool of water over a slurry of spent coffee grinds. This occurs no matter the fineness of the grind. One must also wait to remove the group head so that pressure is relieved, or you can risk removing it very SLOWLY to allow built up pressure to bleed out. On numerous occasions, the pump was unable to force water through a normally tamped portion of coffee, perhaps only a tiny dribble came out. While the unit is attractive, and some parts have excellent build quality, there are few areas that need improvement. The buttons are chrome plated plastic. The trays are constructed from poor quality plastic, the injection molding process seems to have caused slight warping (except for the metal drain screens, which are okay). The burr grinder performed well, but adjusting the fine-coarse setting is a bit of a guessing game. Another thing that irritated me was that the photo showed nice euro-style icon labels for the functions of the three control buttons, but for some unknown reason La Pavoni decided to dumb it down to just words (power, steam, coffee) — which looks completely foolish to me.

This machine is not worth 0!

I returned it after only one day of use, and now I am going to buy the Rancilio Silvia, which I hope is far superior.

I first saw this machine in a shop window it Italy and I fell in love. When I found I could buy it here I was thrilled. But honestly, the performance has been a bit underwhelming. It is truly handsome but there is a steep learning curve, and at the end of the day it really only makes a pretty good cup at best…and that’s on a good day. Forget a nice thick crema. If practice makes it any more perfect, I’ll update this review later on.

I could not be much happier with this purchase. The espresso is great. I don’t use the frother – just remove it an use it old-school. The built-in burr grinder suffers one shortcoming…the switch is set a tad too far in. You’ll figure it out … the built in tamper is handy. Having an adjustable burr grinder will get you pulling commercial style cups in short order. Just experiment and enjoy as you get closer and closer to your favorite cup. Every espresso maker is going to have plusses and minuses. The minuses here are few and immaterial. Buy it.
