In few of my previous posts, I clearly stated that USB can carry virus and we should disable autorun on our systems so that virus can no longer jump out of the USB. Here is a nice little video that demonstrates how USB autorun can launch virus attacks on your system…

Most of the time a computer is infected when you insert a USB drive into it. Ideally speaking, the autorun feature is nice but with the USB drive or infected media, it becomes a dangerous feature. It allows the virus to launch an attack before you even get to know about it. The best way to avoid is to use a nice utility named Panda USB Vaccine. It allows you to disable autorun by vaccinating your system. It also vaccinates your USB drive. When you attempt to put in an infected USB drive, it jumps to catch it.

ESET, proveedor global de protección antivirus, ha revelado los datos de detección de amenazas informáticas en España en septiembre. La lista continúa encabezada por el mismo trío de amenazas que han destacado durante los últimos meses. En primera posición se sitúa INF/Autorun (con un 10,03%), seguido por Win32/Conficker (con el 7,23% de las detecciones) y por Win32/PSW.OnlineGames (con un 6,67%).

La importancia de concienciar a los usuarios informáticos sigue siendo la clave para evitar lo más posible el contagio de virus, troyanos o noLos datos de septiembre marcan una línea de continuidad con los de meses anteriores, acentuando la importancia de concienciar a los usuarios informáticos sobre cuestiones como controlar la ejecución de dispositivos de memoria extraíbles en sus equipos, la necesidad de mantener sus sistemas actualizados y de asegurarse de acceder a sus juegos online desde equipos seguros.

La detección de amenazas en España durante el mes de septiembre comparte pautas similares a las de meses anteriores, tanto relativas a los datos registrados en equipos de nuestro país como a los obtenidos de manera global. Los tres códigos más detectados han sido los mismos que durante meses anteriores, y mantienen una fuerte distancia con el resto de amenazas. Así, Win32/Qhost ocupa la cuarta posición con un 3,12%, mientras que la quinta es para Win32/Agent con el 2,21%.

Las amenazas de los juegos online

Los altos niveles de niveles de detección de INF/Autorun demuestran que los sistemas siguen sin tener las medidas necesarias para asegurar la seguridad en los dispositivos de memoria extraíbles (tales como llaves USB o tarjetas de memoria insertadas en móviles o cámaras digitales).

Esta familia de troyanos suele incluir funciones de rastreo del uso del teclado (keyloggers) y de ocultación (rootkits), con lo que consiguen recopilar y transmitir los datos de acceso y autenticación en los juegos online sin ser detectados por los usuarios.

Dica rápida para evitar problemas com pendrives , celulares, cases e por ai vai……
No Windows Vista, clique no Botão Iniciar > Painel de Controle > Hardwares e Sons. Em seguida, clique na opção “Reproduzir CDs ou outra mídia automaticamente” e desabilite a opção “Usar Reprodução Automática em todas as mídias e dispositivos”.

Já no Windows XP o caminho é mais longo, mas não é difícil. Clique no botão Iniciar > Executar > digite gpedit.msc. Na janela que abrir, vá em “Configurações do usuário” > “Modelos administrativos” > “Desabilitar auto-reprodução”, escolha a opção “Ativar” e selecione “todos os drives”.

É importante lembrar que um bom antivírus e firewall sempre é bem vindo!

There is a chance that the AutoPlay feature may not be turned on. Sometimes autoplay can be disabled as a security feature.

To check whether AutoPlay is disabled:

• Click Start, and then click Run.
• Type regedit, and then click OK.
• Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE’System’CurrentControlSet’Services’CDRom

• Double-click Autorun and see whether a zero or a one is displayed in the Value data box.

• If the value for Autorun is 0, right-click Autorun, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

• If the value for Autorun is 1 locate the following subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER’Software’Microsoft’Windows’CurrentVersion’Policies’Explorer

• Double-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun. If the value is 0xb5, the AutoRun feature is turned off

To turn on the AutoRun feature:

• Right-click on the the key NoDriveTypeAutoRun and click Modify
• In the Value data box type 91. Select Hexadecimal, and then click OK.
• Finally exit Registry Editor.

Just copy this 800 K application to any media containing CD you make and it will play everything for you or your customers, no matter what type of media files you have in your CD, There are 3 player modules in this program and each module is independent and unique. your users only have to click once to start viewing your material, and the program will automatically load and start playback. when an item is finished, the next item will automatically start. To Make this work as an Autorun for your CDs you simply copy the program file and the generated autorun.inf to the CD you make. In order for the autorun.inf to be generated you need to run the program on your local hard disk and you will find autorun.inf on the same directory you run the player the first time, or you can generate it anytime by clicking the generate autorun button shown on the right. Then copy both Automaya.exe and Autorun .inf to the CD.

Seringkali kita dibuat kesal dan sebal dan marah dan segalanya karena satu hal : VIRUS! virus muncul dari manapun, website, email, flashdisk, harddisk, dsb..

tapi setelah diberitahu oleh kawanku, Frenavit yang anak IT, yang bahkan tidak punya satupun antivirus di laptopnya (bayangkan, saya punya dua antivirus dalam satu laptop!), saya diberitahu bahwa ada trik tergampang untuk mencegah virus masuk ke laptop/PC yakni dengan mematikan fungsi autoplay yang ada di komputer.

saat menancapkan flashdisk/portable harddisk/CD pasti ada tampilan seperti ini:

inilah yg namanya autoplay, proses komputer menerima flashdisk anda, proses ini memungkinkan virus mengeksekusi file2 virusnya, nah kalo autoplay anda matikan, virus akan tetap berada dalam flashdisk dan baru tersebar kalau anda meng-klik file virus (biasanya file bentuk .exe yg jelas-jelas bukan file games/program simpanan anda), jadi anda tinggal mendelete file itu, dan voila, virus pun musnah! hohoho.. caranya..

1. Buka start –> run –> ketik gpedit.msc

START --> RUN --> ketik gpedit.msc

2. Muncul Group Policy

3. Di Bagian Administrative Templates –> System –> Turn Off AutoPlay

4. centang Enable dan di all-drives

5. Lakukan step di atas untuk User Configuration juga, selesai!

Oke selesai! dengan begini tiap kali flashdisk/apapun nancap, tak ada autoplay seperti gambar no.1 dan anda bisa langsung membuka flashdisk dan bila ada file mencurigakan, tinggal DELETE. sipp..

I’ve mentioned in past posts about the dangers of the AutoRun feature in Windows.  I think Microsoft has finally recognized this too, as in Windows 7, it is finally disabled by default.  If you missed my earlier post, you can check it out HERE.  But now it seems other software, namely iTunes, is looking to turn this feature back on.  Hang on, I may be getting a little a head of myself.

For those of you who do not know what AutoRun is. It was implemented by Microsoft all the way back in the Windows 95 operating system.  Originally, it was not that bad of an idea.  It was a way in which software manufacturers could ensure the proper installation of their software on systems which had a user who was not very tech savvy.  When a properly formatted CD was inserted into a computer, the system would simply just start loading the information off of the disk, no questions asked.  In the day, this greatly reduced assistance calls to software manufacturers’ help lines.  So initially, it was not a bad idea.

However, like most things in this day and age, hackers found ways to exploit it.  By infecting any removable media device, such as a CD/DVD, flash (thumb) device, or external hard drive, and plugging it into a computer that is AutoRun enabled, it would simply load the malware onto the clean computer without the user’s knowledge or action.  This was the primary venue in which the Conficker Worm was started.

So now getting back to iTunes.  When an audio CD is inserted into a computer running Windows 7, iTunes will prompt you with a message that looks like this.

Do NOT turn the AutoRun functionality on. It was disabled, by default, for a very good reason.  Just click No.

After, iTunes will then present you with another pop up that looks like this….

Press F5 so that you can see the contents of the disk.  This is not 100% secure, but it is much safer than turning on AutoRun. From here you could even scan the disk with your anti-malware software if there are any questions about it’s security.

I don’t think that Apple is doing anything malicious by doing this. It may be that it simply was not prepared for this functionality being turned off in Windows 7, even though Windows 7 has been available for almost a year, in beta versions.  But that is not the issue. The issue I have, is why are the pop-ups being displayed in this order?  It seems to me that they are backwards. The first message is deceiving, at best. It gives the impression that iTunes will not be able to play the user’s CD unless the AutoRun is enabled……period. The pop-up should tell you to view the contents of the CD by pressing “F5”, and then prompt you to enable the AutoRun, if you should desire. Although I have no idea, from a security standpoint, why anyone would do that.

That is the way I see it, let me know what your views are……

Some viruses spread via USB, you plug in your USB in one computer, the usb got infected then the USB carries the virus inside and infects all the computers where you plug in the infected USB.

These kind of viruses (malwares) modify/create the file “autorun.inf” into your USB. When you connect the USB in every PC, the first action the PC takes is run the file “autorun.inf”. So, the best way to prevent infections is denying permissions to modify the file “autorun.inf”.

How could we do that? Well, there are many ways. One of them is editing the register of windows, this method could be boring, difficult, even risky, etc, etc. Recommended for advanced users. Another option could be a program which automatically protect the file “autorun.inf” against modifications. This option is easier of course.

Exists some programs that protect ours USB from being modified, like: Elipen, USB doctor 2.0, USBvaccine (by panda) and others. All of them are easy to use and very effective. Try them and i’m sure you don’t regret.

Sering kali kita sebel karena komputer kita terserang virus, padahal kita lagi penting pentingnya gunakan komputer itu dan salah satunya virus menyebar lewal autorun dan Ada kalanya virus telah masuk ke dalam Flashdisk, dan akan menyebar melalui Autorun pada saat Flashdisk ditancapkan melalui komputer Anda.

Untuk itu ada baiknya kita mendisable ato menon aktifkan fungsi autorun pada komputer kita.
Untuk Disable Autorun/Autoplay dapat menggunakan beberapa cara diantaranya : (jalankan hanya salah satu saja)

1. Disable Autorun/Autoplay melalui registry, caranya:
- Buka Registry Editor
- Klik menu [Start Run pada dialog box RUN ketik regedit]
- Browse ke alamat registry berikut :
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer
HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer
- Kemudian klik kanan pada string NoDriveTypeAutoRun
- Alamat registry yang harus diubah agar autorun tidak aktif
- Isi value data dengan ff yang berarti fungsi Aturun/Autoply akan di matikan pada 255 drive
- Merubah value NoDriveTypeAutorun
- Klik Tombol [OK]
- Keluar dari “Registry Editor”
- Restart komputer agar perubahan ini berjalan

2. Disable Autorun/Autoplay melalui Group Policy [GPEDIT.MCS], caranya:
- Klik menu [Start]
- Klik [Run]
- Ketik GPEDIT.MSC pada kolom “RUN”
- Setelah muncul layar “Group Policy” klik folder “System” pada menu “User Configuration” dan “Computer Configuration”
- Pada kolom Settings, klik dua kali “Turn off Autoplay”Interface Group Policy “User Configuration” Interface Group Policy “Computer Configuration”
- Setelah muncul layar “Turn off Autoplay” properties, klik
tabulasi [Settings] dan pilih opsi “Enable” pada menu “Turn off
Autoplay” kemudian Pilih “All Drive” pada kolom “Turn off Autoplay on”
Kemudian klik tombol “OK”
Klik “Close” untuk keluar dari layar “Group Policy”
Restart komputer
