French sportswear brand Lacoste has reissued a limited number of sunglasses originally produced in the 1980s. You’ll note that the 101 aviator frames’ design has been retained throughout the years, surely a sign of a true classic which remains as popular as ever today. Each box contains a certificate card which notes the serial number of the frames. The sunglasses are limited to 1000 pairs and available now from stores including Colette and Dover Street Market. I know how to describe SS501’s stage style: yucky. Specially after their comeback with the single “Love Like This”. See those outfits they were wearing in the mv? Gay. When other boy bands are competing in wearing the best tuxes, Hyunjoong wears a tattoo shirt. YES, TATTOO SHIRT! Along with gothic make-up and freaky hair-do.

BUT OH, HEY LOOK WHAT I JUST FOUND!

On their way to Tokyo on the 18th, Hyunjoong was spotted wearing all black (this time, not completed with gothic make-up) with cute hat and aviator.

No one can deny, he looks MISTERIOUSLY HOT. He looks like a manly stalker who’s hiding his identity. Goddammit. Who doesn’t wanna be stalked by a sexy ass like him?

Not only Hyunjoong looking so damn fine. Another member caught my eyes the most. Youngsaeng seemed to be so different and unusual. I always thought his face was somehow ugly. But here, this SS501’s prince looked so.. unbearable.

Has he grown a lot? Or is it his fedora? Or those glasses? Well, maybe that warm-looking scarf? Gotcha! IT’S HIS LIPS! Don’t you think they look.. juicy? Don’t they make you want a strawberry smoothies so bad, and sip it all once?

Well, I proved it. Hyunjoong and Youngsaeng could look so delicious OFF THE STAGE. And so could the other members, I’m pretty sure. Now who’s to blame? Their stylist.

To the untrained eye, a pilot and an aviator are two synonymous terms which mean the same thing: a person who flies.   I know that last part may come off as presumptuous, however in the spirit of what this blog is about–aviation, flying is pretty much the underlying, superficial, and everything else in between, topic of this very discourse.

So the next question I struggle with is: to be an aviator or to be a pilot?.   A pilot to me is an individual who is qualified to fly a specific number of aircraft, and is one who has repeatedly demonstrated the highest level of measurable competency in all aspects involving the operation of said craft.  An aviator is the figurative polar opposite of the pilot.  The aviator repeatedly demonstrates why flying is not merely just an occupation with a job title, but rather a way of life–a lifelong calling.  Depending on where you stand on the question, you may even identify with both labels and accordingly call yourself a pilot who is an aviator.

Another photo review of a 1/6 scale fighter pilot figure. Here is the Hot Toys F/A-18 Hornet Pilot from their US Aircrew / Aviator series figures.

This is a re-issue/upgraded version since Hot Toys made an F-18 pilot before featuring a Will Smith headsculpt.

Headsculpt is a Val Kilmer look-alike. Body is a TrueType-38 with bendy hands/cloth aviator gloves and boot-feet (molded plastic).

The CWU-27/P Nomex flight suit with Captain rank insignia on shoulders, brown/tan undershirt. Helmet bag, watch and aviator sunglasses. This figure features the cloth Garrison Cap and 4 unit patches/1 american flag patch (velcro attachment).

CSU-15/P Anti-G suit (gravity pants)/Leg garters and the CSU-17/P Anti-G vest.

MA-2 Torso harness and Survival vest with the LPU-23/P life-preserver.

Notice the connection of the hose from the Anti-G vest to the Survival vest. Shown above are the accessories (same also with the F-4 Phantom pilot figure) located on the Survival vest pouches (exclude the watch and sunglasses).

The HGU-68/P Tactical Aircrew (TACAIR) helmet with the MBU-20/P oxygen mask, note the print/markings at the back of the helmet. Also includes a cloth gray skull-cap.

Overall rating is 4.5 out of 5. Same with the F-4 Phantom pilot figure fragile small parts but everything else is great! Wish they made the carabiners/hook clamps in metal instead of plastic. Amazing details and accurate reproduction of a fighter pilot.

Hot Toys also made at least 4 pilot figures using the old TrueType body (F22 Raptor, F14 Tomcat, F18 Hornet, F16 Falcon) and reintroduced the F18 (this one) and F14 Pilots using the newer TrueType-38 body, new headsculpts, and upgraded hands and aviator boots. The F4 phantom Pilot is a new released. I’m not sure about the old released Blue Angels Pilot if it was a Hot Toys product.

When we look at retail advertising and sales catalogues we see that the two categories are characterised by different styles of tracksuit. Training tracksuits that would be the choice of the sporting fraternity imitate a certain standard style and consist of a hard wearing fabric, normally polyester, with zips etc. that are functional.

The emphasis is on performance and durability though design and colour with sublimated embroidery is now the order of the day. So the training tracksuit could be summarised as attractive durable clothing essential to the football team and other sporting entities. However it is more than just clothing; it is the corporate image of a business where branding and success go hand in hand, therefore the sublimated embroidery on the football jerseys, shorts and sport socks reflecting the Sponsors name and brand image are crucial in promoting the game and team.

Team tracksuits will display team colours, kit design and Sponsor logo. Professional football teams may well have a number of training tracksuits but each will display the same branding and logo that defines the team and their Sponsor. The durable quality of the training tracksuit will be characterised by the fabric, careful seam stitching and design and the ability of the fabric to breathe and stretch without tearing. The common theme in training tracksuits is that they are fit for purpose.

When we talk about walking tracksuits then a somewhat different set of criteria is applied as regards fit for purpose wear. The rigours of everyday training will not apply and we are looking at a product that characterises comfort above all else. The wearer of the walking tracksuit is looking for flexibility in the fabric and more plain colours probably darker rather than bright. Walkers do not generally want to stand out like a sore thumb when hiking in the countryside or anywhere else so they normally opt for plain colours when purchasing a tracksuit. Blending into the environment is preferable to calling out like a siren, where ever we are walking, so subdued colours and designs are preferable to the intricate designs and colour combinations used in training tracksuits. Trouser design can be different where the walking tracksuit has normal or slightly wider leg bottoms to cover walking boots or shoes as opposed to tight or zipped training trouser leg bottoms.

The walking top is usually a little longer than the training top and has a loose waist as opposed to an elasticated tight waist. The fabric can be similar but does not need to be as durable and this provides a wide choice of fabrics for the consumer.

So its been a little while since I’ve posted and theres a few things that have caught my eye that I NEED to share with you all (7 people who read this blog haha).

80s sunnies – as you may have noticed theres been a massive surge in 80s inspired fashion and it’s no less apparent in the sunnies department. Several years ago it was aviators that were the thing and now you’ve probably noticed Ray Bans are THE hot ticket look at the moment but that is set to change (although there’ll always be some losers who cling to them). No, no longer will raybans (which i noticed peaked in popularity when the “actors” in Twilight sported them) be the dominant sunglasses look, instead watch out for a style more like this:

Oliver People frames

The style of frame is called Oliver People’s, and they will become quite big this summer, so watch out for them. If you like to stay ahead of trends I’d suggest picking up a pair, one place to go would be Incu men’s on Flinder’s Lane in the city.

So I work at G Star and the new drop crotch Scuba Elwoods have come in, and I tried them on. They’re not being put out on the floor yet so this is like a sneak peak at this very different (and cool) look that is becoming available. I doubt they’ll ever really catch on on in a huge way because they’re too different but no doubt you’ll see them around, worn by people who like to be different for the sake of it (people who think they are “avant garde”). Anyway they’re a sexy pair of jeans whether your wear them or not and I love G Star for making them.

So thats my summary of some thoughts I’ve had about various fashion topics recently, I’ve got a few more blog posts planned (about other stuff like eating for free on a Saturday morning) so keep your peepers peeled!

 I have already mentioned my wife who I met on a blind date and have been with ever since. We are expecting our first child in May and can not wait.

 I am proud to be an American, I am a conservative and a registered Republican. I am not ashamed of our shared past. I freely admit that we have made mistakes in our past, but I prefer to learn from those mistakes and move forward into a better future as opposed to those that would prefer to dwell on our mistakes to the exclusion of everything else. There are those who ignore all the good that we have accomplished in this country to focus on the few mistakes of the past, and I believe there is much more good in our history than bad. I believe in personal responsibility and working hard for your living.  These values were instilled in me by my father who is a retired fire fighter, and my grandaddy who was a plumber and worked everyday of his life.  Both my grand fathers served in the US military, and I am a third generation navy man.  I am sure that I will use some four-letter words here, afterall I curse like a sailor because I am one.

 As I said in the beginning of this first blog, I was inspired by the WW2 museum in New Orleans to finally start writing here, specifically the 4D movie narrated by Tom Hanks. It was a great narrated film that is more visual experience than movie. That movie reinforced to me how great our country truly is. I am also inspired in part by Glenn Beck; there are things that I am fed up with and I decided that to have my voice heard I would start here. He says something that I myself also believe, that there are more people like me out there than there are not. I am sure this journal will only be read by friends and family, but that is ok with me. The first couple of blogs on here will focus on parallels between present day and the days before and during WW2, American Exceptionalism, and War and the Geneva Convention. After those there is no telling where this will lead, but hopefully it will be a fun journey and maybe a few of you will take it with me. I don’t know how often I will post, but hopefully there won’t be too much time between posts.
