So Avril is very excited for Christmas.  I have been looking forward to the day that she would be old enough for me to explain Christmas to her, and get her excited about all of the fun things involved with it.  Avril has a lot of passion in her.  She’s is not afraid of people either.  Taking her to the park is interesting, as she has absolutely no problem asking strange men to push her on the swing.  The first thing she does is ask them what their name is.  Surprisingly this makes most people uncomfortable, and they sometimes don’t even answer her.  This makes her more persistent in her attempt at retrieving a name though, and so I have to ask her to relent.  Avril is such a breath of fresh air,  I love her for that.  She is her own person, and she knows what she wants, and is confident in her decisions.  She’s almost four years old and I swear she is smarter than me.  Her and I have very different personalities from one another, but we are very much connected body and soul.  She senses things from me, and feeds off of my energy.  It’s almost eerie.  Anyone would be blessed to know Avril.  She’s one in a million.  I can’t wait to see what amazing man gets this girl.  I just pray God gives me the wisdom to train her right.  I really love this person!

I’ve decided to take up some posts to share where I come from and where I’ve been. Hopefully these posts will help me to better understand what direction I am heading. Here we go.

Part One.

1985 – 2003

Pampa, Texas

I’m pretty sure that I have only good memories from childhood. The bad memories include lots of nose bleeds, having permanent green paint on my pencil box from “leprechauns,” and getting the shingles in elementary school. Once I had to miss gymnastics and felt guilty because I knew I shouldn’t have eaten that chili cheese coney from Sonic. Yeah. Nothing too bad. You get the idea.

In the fourth grade, I was called “mushroom head” and my dog Kadie put up with hours and hours of dress up torment and forced love: see below.

Before my parents knew it (at least that’s what I hear grown-ups say), I flew past elementary, into middle school, and became a teenager. I survived going to PMS (Pampa Middle School) and kept any and all crushes a secret. In high school, I participated in my own required activities like family vacations, band trips, homecoming, prom, and graduation. Somewhere in there, I stopped growing at 5 feet 1 inch tall.

I don’t have many pictures from then saved on my computer, but here’s a small selection:

Apart from school, I’m glad that there has always been a place to be oneself in my family and am blessed to have some really great cousins. I enjoy watching each of us grow in our own ways.

I really do miss the walls of my room at my parents’ house and the glow in the dark specks on the ceiling, allowing me to fall asleep underneath stars every night.

My form of rebellion was drinking too much Mountain Dew. I ate a lot of chicken strips. I hated to drive. I’ve always been a good student (even though my parents never rewarded me for good grades in any way). I said I wanted to move to New York with my friends. I secretly wanted to be Avril Lavigne and even bought a skateboard that I never really learned to use.

First of all let me explain the absence of posts over the past 2 days. There’s not point in bullshitting you so I’ll just tell the truth and tell you that I didn’t have time. Anyway…

This song brings back shamefully many memories. And what’s more shameful is that they’re not even bad memories. I liked Avril Lavigne a lot when I was younger. It’s true that she’s a hell of a lot worse now, but back then she didn’t make bad pop songs. I think this was one of the first albums that I bought independently (after some Sum 41 of course. I had an odd obsession with pop punk) and I’ve never regretted spending the money. I’d say that half the songs on there were hits and most people who knew that era and even those who didn’t like Avril Lavigne would remember them today. If only she did the same type of thing now I’d say she wouldn’t be that bad. But she doesn’t so she is.
This is a plea to Avril. Please make more songs with choruses with just the weird vocal noise like this one have. Then I will buy it and we will be happy.
